PSA: tomatoes are not spicy. Tomatoes and tomato products should not be spicy. Pizza sauce isn't inherently spicy. Tomato-based pasta sauce is not spicy. Ketchup is NOT spicy.

If tomatoes are spicy, you have an allergy to tomatoes.

#his amazement at our daughter eating spaghetti willingly #when apparently he's been suffering in silence over there his whole life #and i'm like ????#and he's like ''you didn't make this spicy?''#NO #NO I DID NOT #and he just blue screens for a minute #and i'm like YOU THINK SPAGHETTI IS SPICY???#and he's all ''yeah that's why i prefer we don't have it very often''#the absolute SHOCK i tell you #turns out he hates ketchup because it's spicy and he never understood why people wanted to dip fries in spicy sauce #i was like ''DUDE ketchup is supposed to be sweet and maybe a touch tangy but also cool and refreshing''#and he's like ''SWEET?????''#so uh yeah turns out dude's allergic to tomatoes and he just assumed everyone had a way higher spice tolerance than him #cuz he can find ''non spicy'' food too hot #and it's just all tomato based stuff and we never thought to connect the dots #mild salsa? too spicy. IT'S THE TOMATOES.#tacos? too spicy even at baby heat levels. IT'S THE TOMATOES.#prefers alfredo to marinara despite alfredo having objectively more pepper in it than marinara #he thought his spice tolerance was just so wimpy that my 'normal' was too spicy for him #so he's just been dealing with 1-3 meals a week being spicy to him our entire marriage WITHOUT SAYING A WORD #because he didn't want to offend me with his wimpy palate #IT'S THE TOMATOES #it's always been the gosh darn tomatoes

last night i was blessed and able to try patagonia’s roasted garlic spanish mackerel! (google pic bc i was in an area with terrible lighting)

y’all. this shit was SO. GOOD. i’ve never had mackerel before at all but heard such good things about this brand, being able to find it at central market was a pleasant surprise :))

i pan fried some sourdough in the olive oil it came in (lil garlic pieces 🥹) and paired with little tomatoes, onions, and two options of hummus and cream cheese! both were delicious but i’m a cream cheese fan so. obv that’s the move

will be getting this again.. might use pickled onions next instead and fresh tomatoes when the garden tomatoes are ready :)) so excited. god bless

Brough mum to the now defunct Common Chefs Bistro at Jalan Legundi, Sembawang for an early dinner. Ordered myself the Duro Pork Chop (S$18+) with two juicy and succulent slices of bone-in pork chop drizzled with balsamic vinegar infused sauce and a sprinkling of thymes. Served with two sides of fries and a helping of mixed vegetables salad.

Got mum the spicy Arrabbiata Minced Beef & Mushroom Spaghetti (S$12+). The pasta looks good to me with the sprinkled grated cheese and herbs but mum don’t appreciate the spiciness of the chilli padi (bird's eye chilli).

To finish off the meal, a slice of local flavoured Ondeh Ondeh Cake (S$7.50+). Three slices of pandan flavoured sponge cake sandwiching two layers of desiccated coconut cooked with gula melaka (palm sugar) and more grated coconut sprinkled on top and around. Although a likeable dessert but I still missed the traditional ondeh ondeh snack.

The problem with having pizza places where you can DIY with no extra charges for extra veggies is that I just wind up making monstrosities with no care for how flavors work together

There's this magazine that has a recepe database and they're really good with measurements, their 'X amount of ingredients for X amount of people' calculator is super trustworthy and I'm not good at guessing that type of stuff, but on the flip side it's the quintessential white middle class womens magazine so all recepes lack seasoning or fat or love so I just collect their recepes on a pinterest board with my personal note on eveything boiling down to "start with these ingredients but make it not suck"

#I have a recepe for a 'spicy cream-tomato sauce' here that does not contain anything spicy.#maybe they count the reddish tint as a spice #one of my partners good friends worked there as a copywriter for a long time so he just blames her for everything #she'd be very miffed if she heard that bc she's very into actual cooking and would never commit such crimes

when will we as a society be free from the death grip Sriracha has on restaurants when you want your food spicy.

bestie u used all these flavorful spices and sauces and you're overpowering all of them by just drowning it in Sriracha, i can barely taste anything else.

#this didn't happen rn im having a breakfast burrito n squeezing A BIT at a time #and like. in controlled amounts it's good bc there's Balance. yeah i can taste the Sriracha but i can taste everything else too.#but the last thing I got was a yakisoba dish but they DROWNED it in sriracha when i asked for it spicy and 😭#which was unfortunate bc it felt like a pound or a few of food and I couldn't eat more than a few bites 😔#like when iii make my food spicy i use actual spices or make the sauce/salsa etc. u can taste it all and it's v flavorful n hot.#kinda wanna make more chilli oil again 🤤 always vaguely craving peppercorn #i feel like my list of bottled hot sauce i fw is small tho. red rooster/Louisiana. tapatío. tobasco chipotle. and uh.#that's it (⁠｡⁠ﾉ⁠ω⁠＼⁠｡⁠) I'll use some Valentina too if there's nothing else but yeah.#i have a high tolerance so none of these are hot and just taste very vinegary or tomato-y to me (⁠´⁠-⁠﹏⁠-⁠`⁠；⁠)#i don't mind tomato but i do Not like vinegar outside of very specific dishes

Mum don’t often buy this vegetable but here is Leek & Prawn Stir-Fry in oyster sauce with minced pork. Next is Spicy Red Snapper & Bamboo Shoot with tomato in our very own chilli paste blend. The mild, sweet onion taste of the leeks and spicy freshness of the fish makes for a good match with the steamed rice.
