Costoja. Photo by levilo - Leandre on Flickr.
Costoja, a village of 100 inhabitants in Northern Catalonia, has been considered the town with the most poetic street names.
Where any normal (at least in Europe) town or city would have ordinary names like "shoe makers' street", "[insert more or less relevant historical person] boulevard", or "[name of building that once was there and which has been forgotten by time] square", the street names in Costoja take an unexpected turn.
The town has 77 bilingual street name signs written in Catalan (the local language) and French (the state's language), where you can find names such as:
Escapatòria dels Tenaços Xiuxiuejadors: Tenacious Whisperers' Way Out
Via Crucis dels Somnis Inconfessables: Unspeakable Dreams' Way of the Cross*
Plaçot dels Emprius de Tothom: Common Easements Square.
Atzucac de les Paraules Callades: Hushed Words Cul-de-sac or Unsaid Words Cul-de-sac.
Maquinacions de Xavals i Pubilles en Joguineig: Boys and Girls' Playful Machinations
Lloc del Pou Inoblidable: Place of the Unforgettable Well
Costat de les Ullades cap al Solà: Side of the Glances towards the South
Vaivé dels Pastorets: Little Shepherds' Ups-and-Downs
Tertúlia Ample del Consell dels Antecessors: Wide Get-Together of the Ancestors' Council
Enfonsament de les Mirades Llunyanes: Far-away Glances Descent

*A Way of the Cross (also called Stations of the Cross, Way of Sorrows, or Via Crucis for its name in Latin) is a kind of street present in many countries with a Christian history. It's often uphill, and throughout the street there are 14 steles with reliefs or paintings depicting the 14 stages of Christ's crucifixion day.

Where you start.
The problem with everyone being family, is that they all shared names. Oh, not the last names, that wouldn't matter so much, but the family names. Take his own, for example; Vincenzo Giovanni. There were a dozen of them easy. He was Padrone Vincenzo Giovanni, which was less confusing now that Padrone Vincenzo Giovanni from Australia had gotten himself eaten by whatever it was in the Outback. Stupid fucker. You never left the city, no matter how promising the deal. There was Uncle Vincenzo Giovanni, sibling to the Dagger and everyone knew who she was, never mind the family was sick with Madeleines in whatever way they wanted to spell it. Poor bastard, always second fiddle to a woman. How embarrassing. But if you couldn't earn a title of respect, a street name helped with recognition. There was Vincenzo Rossellini, whom everyone called "Linguini". Vincenzo della Passaglia had become "Poppy". Vincenzo Putenesca was called "Assface". If ever there was a face only a mother could love, Jesus fuck.

For the unaware: in Yiddish, this says “Kish Mir Tuchus” {קוש מיין טאָכעס}, which translates to “KISS MY ASS”!

I will never get over this that one of cities I love has an Evans Lp and Rogers Dr. It just floors me because I never noticed before and I’ve lived here for 20+ years.

"I have a very particular set of skills"
By which I mean I know how to integrate vector functions by parts, but only found out today that the community college I have attended for 5 years has a cafeteria
I can build you a doorframe, but still get very freaked out that something is gonna explode or I'm gonna pay for someone else's gasoline when filling up my car
I can cook Chinese steamed buns and lasagna but cannot find a way to consistently cook eggs. Eggs!
I can navigate well enough around my city that I never need a gps to get home, but you tell me a street name? The fuck is a street name!
I have the courage to ask people on dates, but not the ability to remember where we agreed to eat! The conversation was an hour ago!
i can paint lovely paintings, but if you ell me too paint something, all of my skill goes out the fucking window
My functioning is distinctly limited and yet strangely vast. Like an infinite block swiss cheese that pokes at the edges of the universe, but has holes so vast that galaxies may swirl in them
