Can't Sleep?
Tumblr media
Tommy Shelby x gn!reader
Warnings: none
Premise: One late night you wake to find your bed empty, your husband having yet another sleepless night.
{this is my first x reader fic in like two years, take it easy on me}
Cold.
That was the first thing your body seemed to register as you slowly came to. The second thing you noticed as you shifted, rolling to one side, was the missing place beside you in bed.
You let out a sigh as you reached over, hand prodding at Tommy's empty place on the mattress as if it would bring him back from wherever he had disappeared to.
It wasn't the first time you'd woken up to find your bed empty, and it probably wouldn't be the last. Sleep rarely found your husband easily, and when it did he was often plagued with nightmares, that even your soft words and gentle touches had trouble curing.
Finally, you pushed yourself up on one elbow, your free hand rubbing sleep from your eyes before looking around your shadow cast bedroom.
You found Tommy leaning in the window sill at the far end of the bedroom, staring out at the empty lawn, illuminated by the glow of the moon, and the burning end of the cigarette perched between his lips.
"Are you alright, Tommy-love?" Your words were still a bit thick with sleep.
Tommy started slightly, turning towards where you sat and reaching to tap the ash into the ashtray in the same movement, "Sorry, love. Didn't mean to wake you."
"You didn't," You yawned, sitting up properly, "Couldn't sleep?"
He shook his head, taking another drag from the cigarette.
It was rare to see him like this: strangely unguarded, his usual cold exterior gone in a way that could only happen late at night. You were one of the lucky few who had ever seen the Thomas Shelby in such a state.
You drew a blanket around your shoulders, climbing out of bed and making your way to his side, "Another nightmare?"
He didn't answer, turning his head away and taking another drag. In response you pursed your lips, reaching out to put a gentle hand on his arm, "Tommy..."
"There's too much noise in me head, love," He sniffed eventually, turning his head to look at you once more, "Swear there's Germans about to get through the wall any second. Have to keep reminding myself I'm not underground."
Silently, you snaked your arms around him, and in an instant, he melted into your touch, cigarette forgotten in the ashtray, head buried in the crook of your neck.
One hand found itself at the back of his neck, the other running up and down the expanse of his back, as you murmured, "Come back to bed, Tommy."
"I don't..." His voice trailed off, muffled by your collar.
"They won't hurt you. I'll keep them out, Tommy-love, I promise."

A year in illustration, 2023 edition (part two)
Tumblr media
(This is part two; part one is here.)
Tumblr media
The West Midlands Police were kind enough to upload a high-rez of their surveillance camera control room to Flickr under a CC license (they've since deleted it), and it was the perfect frame for dozens of repeating clown images with HAL9000 red noses. This worked out great. The clown face is from a 1940s ad for novelty masks.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/08/23/automation-blindness/#humans-in-the-loop
Tumblr media
I spent an absurd amount of time transforming a photo I took of three pinball machines into union-busting themed tables, pulling in a bunch of images from old Soviet propaganda art. An editorial cartoon of Teddy Roosevelt with his big stick takes center stage, while a NLRB General Counsel Jennifer Abruzzo's official portrait presides over the scene. I hand-made the eight-segment TILT displays.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/09/06/goons-ginks-and-company-finks/#if-blood-be-the-price-of-your-cursed-wealth
Tumblr media
Working with the highest-possible rez sources makes all the difference in the world. Syvwlch's extremely high-rez paint-scraper is a gift to people writing about web-scraping, and the Matrix code waterfall mapped onto it like butter.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/09/17/how-to-think-about-scraping/
Tumblr media
This old TWA ad depicting a young man eagerly pitching an older man has incredible body-language – so much so that when I replaced their heads with raw meat, the intent and character remained intact. I often struggle for background to put behind images like this, but high-rez currency imagery, with the blown up intaglio, crushes it.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/10/04/dont-let-your-meat-loaf/#meaty-beaty-big-and-bouncy
Tumblr media
I transposed Photoshop instructions for turning a face into a zombie into Gimp instructions to make Zombie Uncle Sam. The guy looking at his watch kills me. He's from an old magazine illustration about radio broadcasting. What a face!
https://pluralistic.net/2023/10/18/the-people-no/#tell-ya-what-i-want-what-i-really-really-want
Tumblr media
The mansplaining guy from the TWA ad is back, but this time he's telling a whopper. It took so much work to give him that Pinnocchio nose. Clearly, he's lying about capitalism, hence the Atlas Shrugged cover. Bosch's "Garden of Earthly Delights" makes for an excellent, public domain hellscape fit for a nonconensual pitch about the miracle of capitalism.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/10/27/six-sells/#youre-holding-it-wrong
Tumblr media
There's no better image for stories about techbros scamming rubes than Bosch's 'The Conjurer.' Throw in Jeff Bezos's head and an Amazon logo and you're off to the races. I boobytrapped this image by adding as many fingers as I could fit onto each of these figures in the hopes that someone could falsely accuse me of AI-generating this. No one did.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/11/06/attention-rents/#consumer-welfare-queens
Tumblr media
Once again, it's Bosch to the rescue. Slap a different smiley-face emoji on each of the tormented figures in 'Garden of Earthly Delights' and you've got a perfect metaphor for the 'brand safety' problem of hard news dying online because brands don't want to be associated with unpleasant things, and the news is very unpleasant indeed.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/11/11/ad-jacency/#brand-safety
Tumblr media
I really struggle to come up with images for my linkdump posts. I'm running out of ways to illustrate assortments and varieties. I got to noodling with a Kellogg's mini-cereal variety pack and I realized it was the perfect place for a vicious gorilla image I'd just found online in a WWI propaganda poster headed 'Destroy This Mad Brute.' I put so many fake AI tells in this one – extra pupils, extra fingers, a super-AI-esque Kellogg's logo.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/11/05/variegated/#nein
Tumblr media
Bloodletting is the perfect metaphor for using rate-hikes to fight inflation. A vintage image of the Treasury, spattered with blood, makes a great backdrop. For the foreground, a medieval woodcut of bloodletting quacks – give one the head of Larry Summers, the other, Jerome Powell. For the patient, use Uncle Sam's head.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/11/20/bloodletting/#inflated-ego
Tumblr media
I killed a long videoconference call slicing up an old pulp cover showing a killer robot zapping a couple of shrunken people in bell-jars. It was the ideal image to illustrate Big Tech's enshittification, especially when it was decorated with some classic tech slogans.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/11/22/who-wins-the-argument/#corporations-are-people-my-friend
Tumblr media
There's something meditative about manually cutting out Tenniel engravings from Alice – the Jabberwock was insane. But it was worth it for this Tron-inflected illustration using a distorted Cartesian grid to display the enormous difference between e/acc and AI doomers, and everyone else in the world.

it's been seven hours and fifteen days —
Tumblr media
pairing: eddie munson x fem!reader
summary: you and eddie find each other again at the deuce. your reunion is surprisingly easy, but your past was from it.
word count: 2.5k
warnings: angst, fluff, some soulmate lore, childhood memories, small mentions of sickness and death (eddie's mom). reader is referred to by a nickname (joan).
series masterlist
Tumblr media
It started with a book.
At first, you weren’t sure if that’s what it meant, though you were taught to expect it ever since you were able to understand the concept of soulmates, right about the time you were taught how to read and write.
Everyone had one, or at least that's what you were taught as well. As soon as you were able to remember, you'd hear stories about people finding their other half through their lost belongings, objects traveling around the world to the hands of the ones who held their owner's heart.
Quite a simple concept, really. Everything that is lost by someone is never really lost, only found by their soulmate, and that was how they are supposed to find their way to each other. A trail of crumbs to your final destination, your fated pair.
You didn't understand how it worked until you started school. Then, it would become a reality, and not just the stories your mother would tell as she put you to bed at night and filled your little heart with wonder. Classmates would come in with their soulmates' things in their bag, eager to show them off — toys of all kinds, notebooks written in entirely different alphabets, earrings missing one pair, blankets, teddy bears.
In the year you started middle school, there were around four billion people in the world. You'd figured you would be one of the kids who's soulmate lived on the other side of the world, rather than the ones who found their other half on the next town over, or just a state away. It would be just your luck, of course.
It turned out you didn't have to look that far. He lived in the same neighborhood.
Your mom had a friend called Jane. You remember Jane because you thought she was beautiful, with her kind brown eyes and long flowing skirts. Jane seemed to you like a fairy from your storybooks, shrouded in ethereal mystery. She was always in your mother's kitchen, both of them sitting on your dinner table, and talking for what felt like hours, and she always brought along her son. A boy your age called Edward, or just Eddie, how he always liked to be called.
You barely remember a time where Eddie wasn't in your life. His mother would bring him along and you'd spend your afternoons together, playing and building worlds of your own on the carpet of your childhood bedroom. You were knights and princesses, pirates and mermaids, aliens and astronauts, but most of all you were free to be whoever you wanted to be in those golden-tinted days of your childhoods.
One day, when you were eleven, a book appeared on the floor of your bedroom. You recalled it just like that, because it wasn't there in one moment, and all you had to do was turn your head the other way, and when you looked back to that same spot, there it was.
A 1965 edition of The Fellowship of the Rings, by Ballantine Books. It had a blue cover with red details, and you knew right away it wasn't yours. You didn't own any of the Lord of the Rings trilogy books because you had never read them, and Eddie, already your best friend by then, never let you forget it.
Upon further inspection, you found two notes written on the first page. One was a note written in red ink, addressed to Jane by someone named Al — Eddie's das, that much you knew, and you also knew he wasn't around much — and below that, a more recent note written in blue ink that said:
"To my precious son,
Happy Birthday!
May you always find your way home.
From your mother.
06/11/1976"
At first, you'd thought Eddie had forgotten it on your last playdate, though you didn't remember him carrying a book with him that day. Your answer came a few days later when Jane was visiting, and you overheard her saying to your mother that Eddie was distraught upon finding that he'd lost his favorite book. He had brought it to school with him, and when he went home, it wasn't in his backpack.
It didn't take too long for you to put two and two together.
Scared of everyone's reactions — your mom's, Jane's, Eddie's — you hid it. The book and the truth, hidden in a box under your bed. You didn't know how to react, much less how to disclose this in a way that wouldn't change everything around you. You were a child, after all. Years later, you wondered how different your lives would have been if, instead of eavesdropping on their conversation, you had just told them what had happened.
Jane Munson died not long after that, and you couldn't stop everything from changing, then. You didn't understand much, just that it was sudden, and fatal, and in the span of less than a year, she was gone. Eddie was distraught, and for weeks after the funeral, he was not the boy you knew and loved. He was a shell of himself, after losing his mother and moving to the trailer park with his uncle, since his father was in jail — something you'd just found out too. It was too much to assimilate, and even at twelve years old, you understood.
He started losing more things in that meantime.
You stared at a blank point that was vaguely at the height of the bottom of your bed as if it hid a ticking time bomb, ready to explode at any minute.
Eddie was sitting on the chair of your vanity, going on and on about the new friends he had made at Hawkins Middle School, friends that didn't include you, since you were still at that phase where hanging out with boys, boys that weren't Eddie, gave you nausea. He was starting to feel a little more like himself again, his buzzed hair growing into small curls, his dimples giving a sign of life again as he started to smile more.
Still, though you were relieved, you were nervous. More of Eddie's things were finding their way to you. An action figure, a set of dice, a plastic mug. You did not know how to approach the subject, and it got more and more difficult as time went on. You felt like you were losing your timing, like the opportunity was slipping through your fingers each time you chose to stay quiet.
"You ever thought about what you'll do when you find your soulmate's things?"
Eddie groaned at your sudden interruption. "Really? That's what you're thinking about?"
"It's just that… See, this girl in my class…" Sighing, you give up making sense. "Whatever. Just answer the question."
"I don't know. That shit isn't real."
You were still getting used to Eddie's slight change in demeanor. He was still the sweet boy you've known, but a little rougher around the edges. Angry at the world for taking away his mother, full of resentment towards his father, confused and scared. Though that anger was never directed at you, you felt some ripples of it, like right now.
“Of course it’s real, we see it all the time.”
Unable to meet his eyes, you hear a scoff coming from his direction. “I don’t know. My parents weren’t soulmates, your parents weren’t either. What are the chances?”
“Don’t say that. There’s always a chance…” Your voice got smaller and smaller, trying to take back what you’d said. It wasn’t the right time, and it wasn’t right for you to force this conversation with the grieving boy in front of you. He didn’t need one more thing to worry about, you told yourself.
“I don’t care. I think I’d just leave them alone.”
Nodding, you moved on to a different subject. It wasn’t the right time.
It would never be.
You thought you had forgotten what he looked like.
Which was impossible, because you saw him everywhere. You saw him in the long haired, rowdy boys you saw up and down Sunset Strip. You saw him in crowds of headbangers with their fists in the air. You saw him in guitar shops, in fantasy novels, in cans of spray paint and black pencils. In tight hugs and loud laughs. In the little kids playing at the park, holding hands and exchanging vows of eternal friendship. In yourself, whenever you look in the mirror.
You wondered if he saw you too. If he looked around at every corner he turned and there you were. A missing limb he could still feel even though it had been gone a long time. Twin ghosts haunting each other.
You couldn't forget even if you wanted to, and you never did, because he was a part of you — and now he was here, in the flesh, as if no time had passed between those five years you were gone. That’s what it felt like to you, at least, although both of you had changed a lot since then. From a distance, you could see Eddie stood taller, had a more confident stance to him. His shoulders were broader, his arms filled his jacket’s sleeves a little bit more. You fought the urge to let out a dreamy sigh, almost forgetting you were on the verge of tears not two minutes before this.
The urgent phone call you were having with Robin had to be cut short when you heard a series of impatient knocks on the door of the staff room. It was Linda, asking you what you were doing there. You mumbled something about needing to make a quick call, but that went through one ear and fell out the other, as Linda was locking your arm with hers and leading you to the front of the small stage where Corroded Coffin dealt with their equipment.
Trying to disguise your trembling, a sinking feeling that took over your whole body, you held tightly onto Linda’s arm, and planted yourself firmly to the ground where you stopped.
“Boys, boys! I want you to meet someone. This is Joan, everyone’s favorite waitress.”
He was the first one who reacted, while his friends, your old friends, only gawked. Gareth dropped his drumsticks, Jeff had opened his mouth three times before deciding not to say anything — which made you realize he didn’t have his braces anymore — and Grant, ever the expressive one, had both eyebrows raised, giving away all his surprise.
“Joan?”
“Because I’m a runaway, like Joan… Jett.” That wasn’t the first, the second or the hundredth time you had to explain that dumb nickname. Joan was not your real name, it wasn’t even close to it, but Linda was insistent on calling you that. She thought it was funny, a runaway girl from the midwest trying to make her way through Los Angeles, and she’d been calling you that since your first week working there. “Not her most creative moment.”
“It’s so fucking good to see you!” Jeff was the first to break the silence, and then the other boys followed suit, engulfing you in tight hugs, releasing all, or at least most of, the tension inside of you. Giggling softly, you hugged them back.
“It’s good to see you too, guys. It’s been a long time.”
The only people who didn’t join were Linda, who stood confused to the side, and Eddie, who stayed in place, looking paler than he already was, like he would pass out at any moment. You felt the same, but Eddie was the one who always wore his feelings on his sleeve, not you.
“What exactly is this?” Your boss asked, pointing her red stiletto nails at the scene unfolding in front of her. “Where do you know her from?”
“From our hometown.” You explained, tucking your hands into the back pockets of your jeans, trying to make yourself smaller. “We went to the same school.”
“More like the only school in town.” Gareth laughed. “It’s a small town but an even smaller world, I guess.”
“Just wait until you get settled here. Everyone knows everyone, it’s worse than Hawkins.” You scoffed, trying to lighten up the mood. “How long have you been here?”
“Almost a month.” Eddie was the one who answered, finally finding his voice. “We’ve been bouncing from bar to bar until Linda was kind enough to take us in now.”
“You’re welcome, dear. It will be a pleasure to have you here. Now…”
As Linda started to explain some of the basic rules of operations of The Deuce — opening and closing times, where to find everything, introducing them to the other staff members — you and Eddie stayed behind, a thin veil of tension still standing between you, but then, Eddie reached out, an outstretched arm forward, beckoning you with a soft voice, “C’mere.”
And you went, with no hesitation. For a moment, you even felt silly for all that fuss you made moments before, that anxiety that threatened you to burn a hole on the ground and swallow you whole. It was just Eddie, the boy who used to hold your hand whenever you felt this exact same way, all those years ago. Ironic how he was the cause and the cure to all of your problems.
You let him wrap his arms around you, closing the gap that the red thread connecting you was pulling and pulling until you were pressed together again, bodies joined like two pieces of a puzzle. You stayed like that for a full minute, your arms around his narrow waist, his squeezing you to his chest until it hurt, but you didn’t dare let go, and for the first time in a long time, you felt right. You were home again.
“I missed you so much.” You found courage to say something in your hiding place, your head pressed to his chest. His smell of cigarettes and cheap cologne was oddly calming, making you breath in deeply.
“I missed you too.” Eddie took a small step back, raising one hand to the back of your head, holding you in place. You were pretty sure you had the dumbest lovestruck look in your eyes while you looked at him, but you couldn’t really care at that moment. You could be embarrassed later. “How have you been?”
“I, uh…”
“Hey, Van Halen!” Linda called out from the other side of the bar, snapping her fingers at you, “you can catch up later. Get your pretty boy ass over here.”
Untangling from each other, you’re both clearly flustered, Eddie’s face a blooming shade of pink. You’re quick to remedy it. “We can talk later, after your show. After I clock out. Is that okay?”
“Yeah. Yeah. Sure.”
He walked away, then, still looking back at you. Both smiling, both feeling the relief of that red string, now much less strained, but no less beaten. Far from healing, but one step closer. At least, that’s how you felt, but you knew that was only the beginning of a long and winding road to the recovery of your friendship. You didn’t dare to think of something more, crushing the seeds of hope that threatened to take root in your heart.
They were just as stubborn as you, though, and settled anyway.

"There’s no way I’m losing to you this year!"
"Ha! Shut up and prove it."
"Okay anddd go!" You both yanked the blankets off of your sections of the table, revealing pink and red piles of goods. Your annual Valentine’s clearance contest had started years ago. Whoever pulled the most savings without hitting the price cap was the winner. You had initially thought your pile looked biggest, but now you realized…
“God dammit! How did you even find that thing?”
You glared at the explosively dressed teddy bear he had sat in one of the chairs. You hadn’t realized the blanket draped over the table, hiding the proof of his victory.
“It was easy.” You didn't have to look at him to hear the smirk framing his words.
“Easy how?? The hero bears sold out before Valentine’s Day!”
“Doesn’t matter.” His red eyes shifted from you.
“You hid it, didn’t you? That’s cheating!”
“That's actually called a logical strategy. It’s not my fault those extras couldn’t find a bright orange Bakubear.”
“That’s definitely cheat-" You could barely hold in your laughter. "Wait...a what?”
“Huh?”
“Aw…Did you name him??”
“No. She did.”
"Uh huh..." You tilted around him to see the wagging tail and hungry eyes. He was already dangling bear paws in front of Riot’s face. “Oh so that one’s not for me? I thought you wanted to win?” He froze, eyes darting to you, the piles, and the dog.
“Now who’s cheating? You know we give her the animals anyway.”
“But I haven’t even cuddled him yet. Who am I gonna sleep with tonight now?”
“Howitzer impact.” Riot responded to the command immediately, launching herself at the bear's stomach before running off to one of her many beds.
“Hey!” His arms wrapped around your waist before you could move towards the kid and her prize.
“Hey, what? You can cuddle the real thing, brat.”
“It’s cute you got all jealous of Bakubear, but you still lose now.”
"Tsk. I didn’t lose shit."

Thanks @cherikdogfood for tagging me, I really enjoyed answering these questions.
Are you named after anyone?
Yes my great grandmother, and they told me she was a viery fierce and strong woman, she had also resisted to the Bulgarians during their occupation of Thrace in WW2. I am proud to be named after her!
When was the last time you cried?
Like real, physical tears? I never cried like that as far as I remember. I am physically unable to cry and currently working on that with my therapist, yk letting myself feel things. But this quite sobbing, when my team got knocked out of thecup a couple of months ago because of a shitty referee. I tend to get angry when feeling overwhelmed so I usually shout.
Do you have kids?
No, unless you count my pets
What sport do you play/have played?
A lot! I mainly did horseback riding my whole life but I also played basketball for about three tears and my team were in the first youth league at the time. I also played handball and tennis and did track and kick boxing. I also played football (where you kick the ball with your feet) for three years and I was a goalkeeper, I would have played in my national team if I didn’t have so many injures and an acl surgery during my second season and my exams and also the covid pandemic during my third season. But if I have to sum up, I do horseback riding for 15 years and football for 3, I hope I get back to it one day.
Do you use sarcasm?
Yeah, more now that I grew up.
What's the first thing you notice about people?
How tall they are, and their colour of their eyes!
What's your eye color?
Blue!
Happy ending comedies or horror?
Happy ending comedies, B99 is a huge fave of mine.
Any talents?
I am a very good artist, I draw very well on pen (but I barely post it) and I have been writing screenplays ever since I was 5 y/o. I have a talent for languages as well but I barely use it since I hate learning grammar. I can speak 3 so far (my native Greek, English and French) and I still work on two more (German and Italian).
Where were you born?
Greece!
What are your hobbies?
I am a scout, I love horseback riding, I love to draw and write, watching movies and our favorite football team with my sister and play lots of sports. I also like to go for a run at 06:00 in the morning and recently got into watching F1.
Any pets?
Yes, my dog Teddy, my mom says he is a mini copy of me but he is afraid of everything in this world and I am of nothing. I also count my sister’s cat Kitty and my brother’s parrot Corey since we all live in the same house and because they are younger than me, I used to help take care of them.
How tall are you?
180cm (I think it’s 6ft)
Dream job?
Military officer! I want to join the Air Force.
Favorite food?
Rice with schnitzel and white sauce with mushrooms, cheese and bacon.
I know I am supposed to tag more people but I really have no idea who to tag, so I didn’t.

AKNK's Jessica (?)
Tumblr media
I honestly don't know where I'm going when I write this, but just to be safe I'm going to put the following warning: spoiler, complaint(s), half-baked analysis
Okay. Let's just get straight to the point.
Does anyone know where the name Jessica possibly come from? I don't mean the origin of the name in real world, rather I'm asking [if you have an idea] why akuneko writers picked that name specifically.
All butlers (or the demons they're contracted to) in AKNK have names that could be traced to The Lesser Key of Solomon, or demonology in broader aspect (as well as angelology if you include Serafim and Cherubim), while the name of the four nobles plus the witch of the north (Elvira, if I remember correctly?) fall into either difficult-to or easy-to track category. None others rendered me speechless like Jessica's.
I mean, this definitely isn't the first time a JP mobage use a feminine name for male character and it usually works (TWST's Leona and Lilia are the only ones I could recall at the top of my head for now). I never complained about this before because it never mattered. Some did take me a while to get used to, but none has ever baffled me like Jessica has.
(no offence to any Jessica reading this, your name is great) 👌
If you look up the name Jessica on internet, it tells you, usually, the male equivalent would be Jesse. While the origin itself, in most search results, is as following.
Tumblr media
So, biblical reference. Not too far-fetched, but still. Is there a reason why that particular name?
In Episode 2 ch. 06 part 14, a new character named スローン appears. I can only guess its romanization as Sloane. If so, his name relates closely to the butlers since we can find connection to Key of Solomon and Sloane manuscripts.
A probe into the meaning shows you this results:
Tumblr media
I'm not sure if name's meaning is actually important when we analyse the names of akuneko's characters. In case it doesn't, that would mean I just need to look for Iscah (or any possible alternative spelling) mentioned somewhere in referenced books (The Lesser Key of Solomon, The Key of Solomon, and the Sloane Manuscripts) or ones related to it.
The easiest solution is to consider the possibility that the writer(s) did take a random name just like that, and to be honest, I can't say I like this solution.
So. In conclusion: I'm stumped.
The reason why I'm writing all this is because I need to understand the reason Jessica's name came to be. The reason why I need to understand it is because, brace yourself for pettiness, I can't for Pete's sake, take Bastien's arc seriously when the dude's name is... well, Jessica.
Okay. I got them out. I'll just clarify here that I still think it's a great arc (and that I have nothing against Jessica) ✌
Now while I'm at it, it's interesting to look into the name Teddy Brown too...

the captain/havers - happy birthday, havers // fluff
read on ao3
havers awoke at 0600 hours sharp that morning, forgetting the day was of any importance. he trudged into the bathroom and brushed his teeth as usual, shrugged on his many layers of uniform as usual and walked down the hallway to greet the captain for their morning patrol as usual.
he knocked on the door and was asked who he was. “it’s me, captain. i don’t believe anyone else is awake at this hour.”
the captain laughed awkwardly. “yes, yes. of course. if you could just wait a few seconds, lieutenant, i’ll be right with you.”
he heard shuffling and clattering coming from the room as he stood opposite the door. “is everything alright in there, sir?”
“yes, perfectly fine lieutenant! wont be long now…”
after a few long minutes of waiting, an excited captain opened the door. “sorry about that, havers. come in, please.”
havers entered the room and stood by the desk. “well, are we going to go on our morning patrol?”
captain had bolted the door and was fiddling with the handle of the desk drawer.
“well, yes, in a little while. but i should quite like to give you this first.” he removed a brown package from the drawer and handed it to havers.
“happy birthday, william.”
he looked down at the gift and then back to the captain, his eyes filled with love. “thank you, teddy. i really wasn’t expecting anything, you didn’t have to get me anything at all. i hope you didn’t feel forced to, i wouldn’t have minded, honestly teddy.”
by the time he had finished, theodore and william were inches apart and theodore’s hands had made their way to william’s hips.
“shush. of course i got you something.” he pressed a kiss to william’s forehead. “i love you.”
william’s heart was full, staring into the eyes of the man he loved. his eyes welled with tears, threatening to spill over. the love he felt was all-consuming, he had never felt this way before and he enjoyed the feeling.
he kissed theodore, his hands making their way to cup his jaw.
“i love you too, teddy.”
“i hope the gift is ok,” theodore said sheepishly as william carefully removed the tape from the paper.
“whatever it is, i shall cherish it forever because it is from you.”
he opened the paper to reveal a leather bound book. he opened to the first page and read the note theodore had written on the first page.
dearest william,
i know how much you have missed writing, so i have bought you this notebook for you to fill its pages with your beautiful words. i hope you share some with me if it’s not to personal.
theodore x
william gasped, looking up at theodore again. he placed the book down on the table and enveloped him in a tight hug, placing a kiss to the skin just below his earlobe before whispering a thank you into his ear.
he pulled back slightly so he could look back into his eyes. “i love you so much, teddy. thank you.”
“you’re welcome, william, i am very glad you like it. now, i have managed to get hold of a cake specially for you, if you would accompany me to my office?”
william nodded and quickly glanced at the clock; it read 06:20. they would have to walk faster than usual, he thought as he walked hand in hand with his teddy to his office.
he also thought how lucky he was, and that with theodore this would be the best birthday he had ever had.
it’s my birthday today and i am celebrating by writing a caphavers birthday fluff fic. i haven’t written a one-shot in ages because i’ve been focusing on my long fanfic, and this was very fun to write. also, i am in love with the headcannon that havers was an english teacher before the war so i kind of included it in this. i hope you enjoyed!

Lost Words
Tumblr media
Alfie Solomons x gn!autistic!reader
Warnings: I guess the way I describe readers feelings/emotions? (all based on personal experience)
Prompt: I had a bad day at work, and this is a coping mechanism
Premise: After a long day at work stress you out to the point of shutting down, Alfie helps you calm down.
{I swear I'm gonna write hurt comfort for Alfie with the roles reversed I just need more motivation}
{also I'm thinking of doing an Alfie fic based on Much Ado About Nothing if anyones interested in that}
From where you were hiding inside your blanket cocoon, you heard the door to the house creak open, and Alfie calling to you that he was home. Cyril, who had been leaning against you, let out a whine, and shuffled to all but slide off the bed, before trotting off to greet his other owner.
You sighed, squeezing your eyes shut and trying to burrough further into the blankets. What only seemed to be a moment later, you heard Alfie entering the room, still cooing at Cyril.
"You alright my dove?" His voice was surprisingly gentle, coming from somewhere near the foot of the bed.
You couldn't find it in yourself to respond, and you heard him move closer, before he was gently pulling the comforter away from your head, humming worriedly, "Dove?"
You peeled your eyes open to find him peering down at you, concerned etched onto his face. Alfie's hand reached out to brush hair from your face, almost automatically before he caught himself, muttering, "RIght- sorry, love, sorry..."
He ran a hand over his beard, "You're havin' a quiet day then? Lost all your words cause of work, hm?"
Slowly you nodded, and he hummed again, muttering something to himself before disappearing from your field of vision. When he reappeared a moment or two later he'd stripped down to his shorts and undershirt, and began to gingerly climb into bed beside you, careful not to touch you.
"You just take your time then, love, and when you get all your words back you can tell your Alfie what's going on, yeah, dove?"
Alfie waited patiently, looking at you, not quite expectantly, but with some sort of reverence you couldn't place. Slowly, one of your hands snuck out from where it had been tucked firmly under your chin, to grab his hand where it rested on the mattress.
When you looked back up at him in aprehension, he seemed to understand, nodding, "'s alright, love."
You squeezed his hand tightly, and he squeezed back, albeit a bit more gently. It was times like this that you felt you could never truly express how grateful you were to have Alfie, who seemed to be the only person who ever truly understood you complex feelings, and never misunderstood what you meant just because you were 'wired different'.
Slowly you worked your way closer to Alfie, until he was able to wrap his arms around you, squeezing you just tightly enough to provide relief from the itch that had worked its way under your skin. You buried your face in his chest, absently running your fingers over the soft fabric of his undershirt.
"That's it love," He murmured, his chest rumbling, "You just take your time, my dove. Aflie's got ya."
Eventually, when you would find your voice returning, you would tell Alfie about your day, rambling on about the good and the bad about how it all became to much, and he would listen. But for now, you were content with laying in comfortable silence, the two of you lost in your own little world.

Everyone wake up the new AU I’m never gonna write just dropped
Dps Pump Up the Volume AU
With Meeks as Mark and Charlie as Nora
For the uneducated Pump Up the Volume is a 1990 Christian Slater movie about a kid who moves to a small town and starts a radio show that pretty much radicalizes everyone in his high school
He’s broadcasting illegally and then stirring up a bunch of trouble and being wild but then in school he’s like the quite kid that no one really notices and then as things start to get bigger he’s desperately dodging being outed as the guy from the broadcast
(It was essentially just the Disney channel original movie radio rebel but significantly better)
The point is: Meeks is the quiet kid coming out of his shell and Charlie is the kid who ends up figuring out who he is first and helping him continue on with it

REVIEWING THE CHARTS: 06/01/2024 (Sabrina Carpenter, Saltburn)
Content warning: Discussion of the Astroworld Festival crowd crush and brief sex references
It’s that time of year again, where all the Christmas songs flush out - no, I’m not going to list all of them as dropouts - and we get a rush of songs gaining or returning with extraordinarily high peaks at extraordinarily high rates because hey, that’s just how the chart is on the first week of January. It’s usually one of my most work-heavy episodes, but also because of the incredibly low barrier for entry on a first-week-of-January chart, it ends up pretty fun and kind of goofy sometimes, so this is actually a pretty exciting week for me, even if this episode will be lengthy to write. Regardless, Noah Kahan gets his first ever week at #1 with “Stick Season”, and welcome back to 2024’s REVIEWING THE CHARTS!
Tumblr media
Rundown
Now, it would be really easy - and also really tedious of me - to just list all of the songs in the UK Top 75, which is what I cover, and you know, I considered doing that, but I think I’m going to be quite subjective and selective here, especially given there are less debuts this week than I expected. Just know that the vast majority of Christmas songs are no longer charting and have been replaced with, for the most part, songs that were charting in the last couple weeks. I will not be listing every return, but I will list songs that have returned to new peaks or songs that I just think are interesting or strange, including songs that haven’t charted in a while or have fascinating stories, or are just goofy little novelties of the January week, and we actually start dead-on at #75 with those.
“Take on Me” by a-ha is back. The Swedish band peaked at #2 with this track, blocked off the top by “The Power of Love” by Jennifer Rush, in 1985, and a largely inferior boy band cover by A1 spent a week at #1 in 2000 because the world isn’t fair. We actually see another #2-peaking classic pop song return to the charts this week… at #8. So - spoiler alert, even though I haven’t seen it either - the film Saltburn which was widely released a few weeks ago ends with “Murder on the Dancefloor” by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, and naturally TikTokers have Kate Bushed it to streaming success. Now you may be interested in how this song debuted at #2 in 2001 and spent two weeks there behind “Gotta Get Thru This” by Daniel Bedingfield (hot take: better song), or that this is Ellis-Bextor’s first time charting since 2014 - “Young Blood” peaked at #34 - but I’m personally more inclined to welcome the return of the man, the myth, the legend Gregg Alexander, who co-wrote and produced the song, to the top 10. Welcome back, king. Also, “Baby Shark” is at #47.
Then we just have the re-entries that reached new peaks, which is a few: “Evergreen” by Richy Mitch & the Coal Miners at #50, “FTCU” and “Pink Friday Girls” by Nicki Minaj at #41 and #30, as well as “Everybody” featuring Lil Uzi Vert at #26, “Body Moving” by Eliza Rose and Calvin Harris at #38 - still really disappointed by that one, “Surround Sound” by JID featuring 21 Savage and Baby Tate at #35, “Runaway” by Ye featuring Pusha T at #23, “One of the Girls” by The Weeknd, JENNIE and Lily-Rose Depp at #21, and of course, the GOAT, Paul Russell back at #20 with “Lil Boo Thang”, then “I Remember Everything” by Zach Bryan featuring Kacey Musgraves at #16, “On My Love” by Zara Larsson and David Guetta at #15 and “Lose Control” by Teddy Swims at #14.
As for our gains, I’m also just going to list the new peaks, as we have “Entrapreneur” by Central Cee at #36, “leavemalone” by Fred again.. and Baby Keem at #11, “Rich Baby Daddy” by Drake featuring SZA and Sexyy Red at #10 (Sexyy’s first top 10… maybe I should just call her Red), and, to my pleasant surprise, “DNA (Loving You)” by Billy Gillies featuirng Hannah Boleyn at #9. When you factor in that “Water” and “Houdini” are also here, this latter half of the top 10 is fantastic.
Then finally, in our top five, which isn’t nearly as good, we have almost a status quo ante bellum, with “Cruel Summer” by Taylor Swift at #5, “greedy” by Tate McRae at #4, “Prada” by casso, RAYE and D-Block Europe at #3, “Lovin’ on Me” by Jack Harlow at #2 and of course, “Stick Season” at #1. Now we have a smaller than expected but still… curious batch of new entries, so let’s run through whatever we have here.
New Arrivals
#71 - “MY EYES” - Travis Scott
Produced by Travis Scott, Wheezy, WondaGurl, Vegyn, Buddy Ross and Justin Vernon
I’m gently surprised UTOPIA has had this much longevity, especially considering that the album didn’t really have bonafide “hits” on it, and especially not this one: two very different ideas spliced together with possibly Travis’ most introspective bars on the record… all of those being in the second half, because in the first, he wastes our time with such inward-looking gems as “Rollie-Pollie on my wrist” and “I need no beef, no cheese, even when I eat, they cheat”. These are elementary bars. Yeah, I hated this song on release and I hate it still now. The first half is a slog, filtering a perfectly fine The Japanese House sample to compressed nothingness, as Justin Venron of Bon Iver croons incoherently with no leading melody or really any lyrics worth caring about. It perfectly embodies uncertainty, which could perhaps be intriguing if Travis hadn’t confused being abstract for being interesting so you have these arbitrary vocal effects attempting to make up for lack of substance over this drone for as long as he can stall before Sampha comes in for nine seconds more soulful than the other four minutes and change combined… seriously, what a terrible use of your Sampha. It’s not like the flashy synthscape eschewing anything memorable for “vibes” and a stagnant trap skitter after the beat switch … and amidst all the meaningless flexing, comical controlling of women, it gets kind of ugly.
Travis throws out possibly his one explicit line about the Astroworld festival disaster on the album: “I replay them nights and right by my side, all I see is a city of people that ride with me… if they just knew what Scotty would do to jump off a stage and save him a child”… and yeah, I don’t want to start this year off on such a negative note but - go to Hell. The explicitly self-centred nature of these lines and those surrounding it show a complete misunderstanding of the festival’s failures to keep people safe, with Travis wanting to be seen as the “hero”, complete his rags-to-riches story, swoop in and “save him a child” as if he’s Superman, whilst pointing fingers at the unknown “they”, which if it refers to critics is sad and if it refers to those who were at that crowd crush, is utterly despicable. Just after disgracing his critics for not looking at themselves in the mirror, he brags about how he stands on the stage and he gives them “the rage” and there’s “no turning it down”, you “can’t tame it”. But it’s not like it matters to the main character of our story, Travis Scott, because his life is just a movie, and if you lived it, you can’t blink because everything just goes crazy fast. I mean, life would go pretty fast and easy without consequences, wouldn’t it? If we’re looking forward to 2024 in popular music this week, I’m pretty confident that I want to leave this mess, and honestly, Travis Scott as a whole, far in the past.
#65 - “You’re Gonna Go Far” - Noah Kahan
Produced by Noah Kahan and Gabe Simon
Sadly not an Offspring cover, but anyway, I promise the rest of this episode won’t be as… controversial. At least Noah Kahan won’t be, right? Another track from his deluxe reissue of Stick Season, Kahan sings about knowing that letting this person leave is for the best, and they’ll go far without him and his sticks tying them down. It’s pretty self-loathing in its acoustic frolick, so I completely understand why this would turn people off... but I’m starting to grow fond of Kahan’s voice, and even through his somewhat bitter chorus and seemingly non-sequitur observations in the verses, I still quite like this. What can I say? I’m a human, I find this reassuring, especially with Kahan digging into his falsetto range surprisingly well, including on that mantra of a post-chorus. It’s almost weird how little I have to say for a song nearing five minutes, but it does feel pretty self-explanatory and the folk-rock stammer of the instrumental feels genuinely home-grown, fitting with how the narrative is strung and the connotations of them moving far away from Kahan’s more hapless rural area. At its heart, it’s a “life goes on” song, but one knowledgeable of his own fate that he sets out for himself here, one that by the outro, he seems weary of, or at least convincing himself maybe he should do the same as this person. Though left seemingly vague in terms of what the exact relation is, given some of the verses I can imagine this is about a sibling or, looking into the future, a child leaving the house for education, and it would definitely work out with the context we’re given, but I’m sure there are many interpretations of this. Mine is that the song is great regardless of them. Man, this guy is really uneven, isn’t he?
#63 - “Never Lose Me” - Flo Milli
Produced by gerreaux
So it’s about damn time Flo Milli charted. Even if I’m not a big fan of all of what the Alabama rapper puts out, she’s got a particularly vibrant personality that becomes increasingly obvious when her overdue breakout hit is essentially a remix of Babyface Ray’s “Ron Artest” with 42 Dugg which is still a pretty good song given the incessant yet timeless-sounding vintage soul loop under a trap groove sounding like it splits time between 2000s Dirty South classics and modern plugg bangers. It’s just that when you hear Babyface Ray go on for one exceedingly long verse followed by an… oddly solemn and badly-mixed 42 Dugg performance, you kind of wish Flo Milli was on the beat instead. So she just is, and it works out brilliantly. Sure, Milli isn’t saying much of interest and you could definitely see that chorus as tedious, but she’s just so much more dynamic with her flows and encompasses the mix much more effortlessly than those it was first made for. It’s mostly just about being in love with this street guy, and honestly, I’m probably overrating it when I look at it outside of its context… but man, there’s just something hypnotic about this beat. Now there are two separate remixes that helped this chart, for a little remixception, those being from Bryson Tiller, who I couldn’t imagine on this at all, but delivers very explicit sex bars with a verse that slides much more effectively than I expected… and Lil Yachty, who is such a perfect fit for this beat that I swear I see him on the original intro anyway. In fact, the Lil Yachty version was released on the same day as the original. He says “I’ma snack on your booty like Scooby”, so I think we’ve found a definitive version of “Ron Artest”.
#46 - “Toxic” - Songer
Produced by Songer (supposedly)
When I typed this into Spotify and saw the Britney Spears song of the same name, I had a sinking feeling… and sure enough, my suspicions were proved correct the moment I pressed play on the song and swiftly paused it in disappointment. This is a white guy rapping over the “Toxic” instrumental with flows and bars that sound like a pastiche of drill freestyles, as if he spent a couple weeks researching them and thinks he can do it better. The original “Toxic” spent one week at #1 in 2004 and I am not giving this dignified character-actor  any time of day. Let’s just hope this doesn’t get any higher.
#40 - “Perfect (Exceeder)” - Mason and Princess Superstar
Produced by Mason
Ah, it’s been a while since I’ve been able to say this: who the Hell are these people? And in addition, why does this song have enough versions on Spotify to reach nearly 52 minutes? Also, why is this song from 2007 charting and once again, who the Hell are these people? Okay, so one at a time: this song from 2007 is charting because it was in Saltburn. Also, it technically already charted but we’ll get to that. Secondly, it’s an electro house song, of course it has that many versions. Thirdly, and this will take the longest, Mason is a Dutch DJ active since the 90s who released an instrumental jam “Exceeder” in 2006 and yes, suddenly I know this song all too well, just never by name - I always heard it as background music in ads or on the radio, but never actively listened to it. It’s fun, growling, fidgety fun with a lot of slick edges and refrains, from before electro house got too festival-ready, so it’s still a little dirty. Now here’s where it gets weird - according to the Official Charts Company’s website’s archive, this is the version that charted, peaking at #3 in 2007, behind MIKA’s “Grace Kelly” at #1 - “Starz in Their Eyes” was at #2 by the way, that’s a… trio and a half. Despite this, the article OCC wrote about the song says that this is a re-entry of “Perfect (Exceeder)”, which makes more sense to me since that version was released on Ministry of Sound and is the cover art for the song on the OCC archives, so this probably isn’t a new entry at all. If this song’s story wasn’t so weird, I’d chalk this up as an error and briefly touch upon it in the rundown, but technically, this isn’t a remix, it’s a mashup, and one from 2007, far before I started reviewing, and it was only the 44th biggest song of the UK in 2007 so it’s not like it would have returned naturally so either way you slice it, it FEELS like a new song - stretching the definition of new here - is charting here.
So who’s Princess Superstar? Well, she’s “Pennsylvania’s top female Jewish rapper”. O…kay, so her song “Perfect” from 2005 failed to chart, and it also may be one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard but hey maybe we wouldn’t have… Kreayshawn without this, so maybe I should be grateful. To be fair, she did chart in Australia, so Iggy Azalea can probably attest to being influenced by this. Therefore, I’m not grateful whatsoever. She had a minor chart hit with “Bad Babysitter” in 2002, which is somehow even worse, but someone somewhere decided to mash her failed single “Perfect” with the club jam “Exceeder” and create the malformed “Perfect (Exceeder)”, which is… a song I’ve never heard before. I have only ever heard this instrumental version, and the addition of the Princess Superstar just makes the song genuinely insufferable, at least there was a goofy novelty to the original “Perfect”, this feels like it’s taking itself half-seriously… when nobody should be taking Princess Superstar all too seriously. I don’t know, if this was the original “Exceeder”, I’d probably give it Best of the Week in all honesty, but this weird remix oddity… yeah, keep it in 2007, guys, it even has the gymnastics in the video like “Call on Me”. I don’t think we need to start with a 2024 revival of… whatever this is.
#24 - “Feather” - Sabrina Carpenter
Produced by John Ryan
Well, we started with controversy and we may end with controversy as the scandal surrounding the music video erupted… I’m going to stop pretending like I care. Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” did all this and then some decades ago, let’s just talk about the music which is… utterly serviceable. It’s a good kind of serviceable, it’s not slop, just a Dua Lipa rip-off that doesn’t like filling up space in the mix, or at least isn’t very good at it, and it leads me to like it, bizarrely enough. Despite how breezy she is, she’s desperate to fill up space with riffs and stray melodies filtered with reverb and echo over this vague funk-pop that doesn’t even have the guts to go full disco. I may have more to say about this song as the year goes on? I don’t know, I’m kind of fascinated by how I just… feel sorry for this pathetic little dance-pop song. Weird note to end on, but I mean, she’s hitting all kinds of weird notes so…
Conclusion
Strange week, as is to be expected, with a lot of interesting stories, for the better and for the worse. Okay, mostly for the worse, and Travis Scott nabs Worst of the Week pretty easily for “MY EYES” - sorry, Sampha - and that Songer doofus can get the Dishonourable Mention for his “Toxic” freestyle, I guess, but let’s just ignore that exists. As for the best, it is actually pretty difficult but I think Noah Kahan eases it out here for “You’re Gonna Go Far”, with Flo Milli - and realistically, Lil Yachty - pretty close behind with the Honourable Mention. As for what’s on the horizon… God knows. Welcome to 2024 in pop music, I’m pretty sure anything can happen. Thank you for reading and I’ll see you next week!

Aftershock (06/01/24)
I submitted my final essay for last semester a couple days ago and I finally feel free. If anyone has been paying attention to my real life notes at the start of posts, you’ll have noticed that I’ve been stressing about but not writing my essays for over a month now. Things are suddenly so peaceful. I have learnt nothing about not procrastinating.
This was supposed to be a normal episode review for last week but devolved into all my Casualty thoughts from the past couple days so like, spoilers for this week and next week at the end and a bit of rambling in the middle. I’m at a weird place with Casualty right now because we’re inching towards me just ignoring canon and pretending that what should’ve happened is happening instead.
Part 1 - Episode Thoughts:
Goodbye Ryan. Who can say why they gave you and told us your backstory? As he’s leaving he tells them not to forget him and it’s like……..this is Casualty?? The moment you walk out that door, you were never here in the first place. I don’t feel incredibly caught up about him leaving, he was problematic but he was free and I suppose I have to give him that.
Hello Ngozi. Basically all opposites here: I can’t wait to learn more about her, I will never forget her, I love her, she is perfect and can do no wrong. No thoughts, head empty, just Ngozi. She’s so !!!!! <3 She seems lovely, I’ve been missing ‘lovely from their intro’ characters. I think she has more experience than the others which is interesting too.
Charlie is a lot more interesting right now than he has been in the whole time I’ve ever watched Casualty. I thought it was because I’ve been watching series 1 (special interest fuel but not as distracting as rewatching recent episodes so I can do other stuff while it’s on) and he’s more interesting in that because they had to actually write a character and couldn’t get away with just dragging him on screen and going “it’s Charlie bros, like if you agree”. But his scene with Ryan was as boring as ever so I think it’s just the influence of Stevie.
[On the largely unrelated note of old Casualty: it’s super interesting how many of the current plot points and stuff that’s happening in A History of Violence also happened in series 1. Early Casualty has the issue of staff being attacked but no one wants the police around and I’m wondering if this current storyline will be as overtly anti-police as series 1 was. Also, spoilers for this week but the paramedics feel like the new measures haven’t considered them at all, and series 1 Casualty has an episode where the paramedics aren’t included in a meeting and one of them (PLAYED BY ROBERT PUGH AKA GETHIN) feels like the paramedics aren’t being treated like the rest of the staff.]
Faith Stuff™. I am still not interested, please end this Mr BBC.
Part 2 - Mostly Episode Relevant Teddy Thoughts:
Objectively: It was an episode. He got with Jodie, which probably isn’t that out there. It sure happened.
Subjectively, the good: “Cutting me out of it like that, it shows what she thinks of me” is a great line for exactly what I think is the real issue Teddy has with Jan right now. The wedding is off and Paige acknowledged the issues in their relationship, which is about time. Teddy and Paige were cute in that episode where Teddy is stressing about asking her out but probably doomed from the start. The problems I think they both bring to a relationship aren’t incredibly compatible problems, it was only a matter of time before things started to implode (IF SAH WAS THERE, THOUGH…). I really, really liked how surprised Teddy seems to be that Paige isn’t happy that he only asked her to marry him because Gethin told him to. Yeah, he would be surprised. So many things in his life, if you really think about it, come back to his family (“it’s why I became a paramedic”) to the point that I do think he wouldn't get why it would weird someone out. I also liked that Paige and Sah really don't get how he’s feeling at all, I think what he’s feeling is very specific and different than typical grief and it’s not their fault they can’t really figure out what’s up there because I don’t think he knows either.
Subjectively, the bad: but I didn’t like that ~Jodie understands it~ or whatever. Why? Because her mum died? Well Casualty, I regret to inform you of your own writing, but so did Paige’s mum. Not even as a backstory thing, as a plot thing. I won’t ever be happy about this because I’m ride or die for Sah/Teddy/Paige now, they’re the only thing that could make me happy. Even with just Sah/Teddy it’s like, I wouldn’t actually want them together despite how much I talk about them. They’re my two bros chilling in an ambulance, five feet apart because they have unresolved issues. The Sah and Teddy scene was a let down but whatever (thinly veiled annoyance). Generally, as I said before, it feels like this episode brushed past some interesting ideas but just failed to go there and didn’t let any of the ideas it established sit before having Teddy cheat on Paige (I’m counting it as cheating cause I can).
Subjectively, the overanalysis: firstly, there’s pacing problems. I think the fact that they didn’t spend enough time developing Teddy’s feelings really didn’t help his part of this episode. One episode exploring Teddy’s feelings about it all, developing that a little, looking into what’s going on underneath and how no one really understands it. Let it rest a bit. Another one for the impact on his relationships, he (ugh) gets with Jodie. I still wouldn’t love it but I think it would feel better developed. Secondly, I just think they underuse the best parts of Teddy to focus on the dramatic parts. They have him do things that aren’t theoretically OOC but are just the most extreme thing he could do and it’s a waste. And they focus on this romance storyline (which they already ruined the moment they decided not to make it a polyamory storyline) that just isn’t that interesting as much as it is dramatic. The most interesting thing about Teddy right now is Jan. With most characters, to say that the most interesting thing about them is a different character would be insulting, but I mean it as a massive compliment to how well written their relationship is and how well they integrated Teddy into Jan’s character, considering he definitely wasn’t part of their original plan for her. I’m sure they will do an episode about Teddy and Jan, because if they don’t that is terrible writing, but I wish this one had given us more on his feelings towards her and about his family than it did. That’s what’s interesting. There’s so many angles to come at this from, there’s so many potential layers to their relationship. But no, they have to have uninteresting romance. If an autistic person with a special interest on a character is bored by the portrayal of that character, that isn’t a great sign. He is very interesting to me but not for reasons canon cares to consider.
Part 3 - Spoiler Thoughts:
I want to be excited about this week's episode but I’m not sure after last week. I am excited for a Sah and Teddy interaction of actual substance, though. Very excited. That will make or break the episode for me. Will skip straight to it when I watch.
Tumblr media
TEDDY INSISTS THAT HE DOESN’T WANT SAH TO LEAVE. MY BELOVEDS.
Lots of paramedic stuff which is good, Jan’s back which is good. Always questioned the use of Sah’s top surgery as a plot device, especially when they used it to create tension between them and Paige (??????), but I am kinda like noooooo about them having Teddy be dismissive about it. Yes, it is just my take on his character that this is an important thing about him, and Yes, he is gonna apologise. But they can’t blame me for caring about Teddy consistently being there for Sah on this when they’ve made so many other characters be vaguely or explicitly transphobic to them and only had Teddy be consistently on their side. YOU CAN’T BLAME ME FOR CARING ABOUT THAT. Teddy in my head would never and he’s the real one now.
Do I think Sah is gonna leave? Maybe. I’ve been expecting them to leave during this miniseries for a couple reasons, even though that means we have a lot of characters leaving in a few months, but I thought it would happen later on. And two exits in two weeks is a lot. If they leave it’s like, I will absolutely miss them but it feels kinda like the writers don’t know what to do with them anymore anyway. Sah in my head lives on with Teddy in my head.
Next week’s episode will have Max and Dylan stuff AND an acknowledgement of Donna?? I am kinda excited to see that, even if it will bring back my annoyance at how they wrote Donna’s exit.

Anyway, I’m back to being able to think about Casualty all the time without it having a direct effect on my real life obligations so expect more posts and faster replies for at least a month.

Can you tell I’ve been watching Succession?

Marauders Band Au (Positions + Songs)
James (Lead Vocals + Bassist) — Classically trained in several string instruments such as cello and violin. Originally was going to be a second guitarist but decided against it.
Sirius (Vocals + Drummer) — Says he loves the ‘Boom boom bang’ of the drums. Also a classically trained pianist. Was going to be on keyboard but he hates anything related to pianos.
Remus (Guitarist + Songwriter) — Owned an acoustic for years and wrote poems that turned into songs. Writes most but not all their songs.
Peter (Keyboard + Guitarist) — Probably plays the most instruments out of everyone, some of these include piano, guitar, french horn, tuba, and a two or three more. Band kid at heart.
Songs + Progress
They started off as a cover band that played small gigs at parties, night clubs, and pubs. The song they played that got them some buzz was ‘I Believe in a Thing Called Love’ by The Darkness, this was Sirius’ favorite band at the time. After that, more people started showing up to see them and they got a bit of a fan base. The first original song they ever performed was written by Remus and called ‘Dead or Alive’ They started uploading a mixture of covers and original songs to a YouTube page they created entitled ‘The Marauders’. James believed they had potential to go big and the internet was a great way to get started. Their content wasn’t limited to the band, sometimes they posted small videos of them just chatting, answering questions, individual singing/playing, and complete randomness. They were discovered by opening for a more popular band at a nightclub and began to slowly fade away from covers and only record original content. Songwriting became a group effort instead of being left solely to Remus though he wasn’t complaining. They continued to post some content on YouTube when they had time but only covers and talking videos. It was a creative decision that lead them to using their childhood nicknames as stage names and have it be their “thing”. Their debut album was simply titled ‘The Marauders’ despite major pushback from James and Sirius who claimed it to be unoriginal and unlike them. This album included 10 songs plus and intro, the cover art was a recreated picture of them from their days at Hogwarts with the original hanging behind them. As of now they have 2 albums, 4 singles, and a total of 27 songs (16 written by Remus, 5 written by James, 4 written by Peter, and 2 written by Sirius) Their albums and songs are listed below.

hey hey hey its been a long time since i came around my n key is kind of broken so keep that in mind while reading. there are two things as of late I have started doig that has hugely imporved my wellbeing overall ad weather those things happened because i turned 25 and my prefronal cortex finished developing idk but i started actually meditating and have drasticlaly reduced my screentime by utilizing my light phone, and cleaning my house and going to the gym and i have the intention to start a well relationship with my art. I started a huge overhaul where i first literally cleaned every corner of my apartment it took me an entire week and a very runny nose but we made it out! then when i reduced my screentime i would get home and turn off my iphone and for like 3 days while i was home i tride to do my tasks with more intention and without any music or anything in the backgound. i believe that gave me the strength and desire to start meditating consistantly today is day 7 of meditating everydayi believe. at some point i decided that all these random goals I gave myself where i would try to control my whole life in a single moment where ot worth it anytmore and i finally gave it up - as much as i could its still a prtactc- but i now listen and i try to tune in adn honor what i want to do without judgemnt. at first i just played videogames for days at a time but it was an activitiy with intentionrather than dumb unconcious impluse that socil edia is. now im moving towards being creative, not quite working on stuff and being "prodictive" or making money but i must be patienct and know that it is all in perfect timing. and eventually ill unlearn the fake importence of productivity adn making money. it all started when i wanted to do the tht girl challenege meaning i wanted an overhaul of my life i wanted a clean slate i wanted to start clean in order to create the ife i have always wanted! and i am well on my way now. i am so excited and its been fun learning about the wonders aligning hard work with a good goal with inspiration could do for you. hard work (when done properly) really is the zest of life. i cant wait to check in in 2 months and talk about when i have accomplished. right now its dec 14 7:06 pm today is day one off out of three <333 today i woke up at 10 and got ready cleaned up BECAUSE I CLEAN NOW and i went to target with teddys money to pick up some xmas goodies and gifts! i wanna finish writing a letter to my 30 year old self, i made some clay gifts for my friends to give ot them at my CHRISTMAS PARTY ON THE 22, IM SO EXCITED Im learing about the power of doing what i like ad am good at beaise that is what truly bigns happiness and after trying to deprive myself rom it i relaized how much of a gift hosting is. i think ill need to find a balance beasue i still want to pay off my debt and have a savings and invest and be able to retire, but its a balance i am excited to figure out. i wanna move to nyc soon and make alot of money woth art and be represented by a gallery soooyeah <3 ill keep ya posted
