This has got to be kidnapping.
Yet how can it be when you're not even verbally struggling to escape?
The only physical binding you have is your sprained ankle. If you didn't have that, you can easily jump out of the car.
But you dare not anger Court any further. He might not let you leave them until you ripen of old age.
Would that be so bad, though?
You blush, sharply averting your gaze out the window as if it would throw the thought away. Being with Court and Claire in less than three hours for thrice a week should be enough for friends hanging out.
Right?
So, why are you wishing for more time?
Why are you always at the edge of your seat waiting for them?
Why is it always hard to watch them walk out of the cafe without you?
The answers are obvious. You just don't want to indulge them again, especially after what happened tonight.
"Home runnnn!" Claire shouts happily as she races through the garage. She certainly looked like she batted a ball out of the field, arms raised overhead, open-mouthed grin, and keys dangling noisily.
You and Court stay silent as Claire unlocks the door. He has you in his arms again, but you don't breathe a complaint this time.
"Want to take a bath, (N/N)?" Claire asks when the three of you entered the guestroom.
You nod. "Sure, that'd be grand."
Court gently sets you down on the bed. "Do you, um, need help?" he questions with a red face, "Taking a bath?"
You laugh. "I'm not that incapacitated, dude. Just get me a chair, towel, and clothes."
"Here's a towel!" Claire gets one from the closet and deposits it on the bed in a flash, "I'll go get a plastic chair!"
She's out of the room before either of you can blink.
"What a proactive teen," you comment amusedly before the silence becomes awkward.
Court snorts in agreement, looks at you for a few seconds, and turns away. "Hey, listen, you can borrow my clothes for the time being."
"Do you have my kind of underwear this time?" you tease.
"About the underwear.. we can buy some tomorrow morning." Court awkwardly rubs his nape, "There's a— what do you call this.. a small market at the park tomorrow. It's always there every Saturday, from 6 AM to 10 AM."
"A tiangge?"
"Yeah, that!"
"Alright, it'd probably be good for me to walk around tomorrow."
"Who says you'll be walking around?"
"Uh, I did?"
"No, you're staying in the car."
"What?"
"My house, my car, my rules."
You chuckle. "Court, seriously.. what are you doing? This is rather sweet and all, but you're lowkey scaring me." you swiftly add to ease his growing anxiety, "It's scary in a funny way, actually. But I'm getting worried that you're over-worrying about me."
He glances down at the floor. "Isn't this what friends do?" and peers at you with eyes so dubious it's as though he doesn't know the meaning of friends.
"Yeah, it is.. and I would do the same for you, it's just that…" you look straight into his eyes, "This kind of overworrying feels different. I can't help but think it feels different. This, us, we.. feel different. But I don't want to think it does, I want to know."
You're quick to realize what you just said, their weight and meaning, so you let out a loud laugh. Hopefully it will dispel your statements.
"Or maybe it's just me!— Me being silly ol' me," you snicker.
Yet Court is looking at you as though he understands the facade you're wearing.
"What's so funny?" Claire drags a monoblock chair into the room.
You shake your head. "I was just mimicking Flint Lockwood."
"You know Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs?!"
"Know it? I've watched it a hundred times!"
Tumblr media
"There! Good as new!" Claire declares, satisfied.
After taking a bath, the father-daughter duo helped you with your wounds again. Claire has just finished bandaging your elbow. While Court went to get another compression bandage after leaving an ice pack on your ankle.
"Kiara.. may I ask you something?"
She snorts. "Of course. And no need to be all formal."
"How did you and Kurt find me?"
Claire freezes, the look on her face somewhat resembles a search engine loading continuously due to a weak internet. "Um, well.. we were going to invite you to watch a movie with us," she smiles sheepishly, "It's Friday. And it's been a while.
"Anyway, we knew you were going to Lillia's, so we turned around and drove to the hotel. We got there just as you were being chased."
You resist a shudder when you hear derisive howling in your ears. You wonder how long those guys will be in your mind, their laughs and hoots bouncing back and forth, reverberating your skull.
"I'm glad you two turned around," you smile at Claire with glassy eyes. "Thank you, Kiara."
She's stunned until tears brim her eyes. But Claire doesn't let them fall. "Don't just thank me. It's Six who beat their asses," she snickers.
"Who?" you ask.
"What?" Claire replies and freezes in realization.
"(Y/N), are you hungry?" Court inquires, sidling in the room.
"No, thank you." you glance at him from head to toe, "How about you? Didn't all that ass kicking got you starving?"
"Not really." Court sits on a chair at the edge of the bed. He takes off the ice pack from your ankle, which he towel-dries before he mindfully wraps a compression bandage around it.
He's too focused on your sprain while you're so engrossed watching him that neither of you notice Claire sneaking out of the room.
"Hey, can you come over here and hand me the ice pack?"
Court just finishes bandaging your sprain. Yet he wastes no time obliging you. This, again, neither of you notices.
"You found another welt on you?" he asks, sounding like he's half-joking (but he's not).
You snatch the ice pack from him and press it up against his left jaw. Court is monumentally unprepared for the "assault" that he winces in pain.
"Nope! Found a bruise on you, though." you say, snickering.
Court lets the astonishment wash over him. "You notice that?" he asks, somewhat amazed.
"At first, I thought it was a tattoo."
"Really?"
"No, I'm joking."
"Oh.."
You snort. "Doofus."
"Twerp," he fires back, flaring.
You double over, laughing. But you still have the ice pack steady on his jaw. "Sometimes you're a sore loser," you examine his face for any more injuries, but it's hard when he's scrunching it up to a scowl. "No, scratch that, you are one."
"And you're just infuriating. All. The. Time." he remarks with hardening emphasis.
"But you love me," you intone jokingly.
Court stares at you, astounded. And as the blood creep up his face, your laugh dies down in shame.
He knows you're joking, right?
You know you were joking.. right?
Sure, you like-like him, but you wouldn't call it love. Infatuation is more like it. Or stirrings, as Captain Jack Sparrow termed it.
Your inner self gives you an unimpressed look.
'Ok, fine.. feelings.'
Court calls your name.
"Huh? What?" you snap out of your stupor.
Court grabs the ice pack from you and off his jaw. "I asked if you want to call somebody." he says with genuine concern.
"Oh… I don't think I can talk to anybody about what happened just yet."
"Okay," he pauses, "Sorry.. I thought you'd feel better if you talked to Mindy. Or maybe Erick."
You chuckle. "I would if we were still dating."
Court blinks at you.
You elaborate. "I mean, we were only dating. He's not really my boyfriend in the first place."
"So… You two aren't dating anymore?" Court asks.
"That's right." you nod and pretend like your heart is not leaping up your throat because of what you plan to say next. "I told Erick I can't  date him anymore because I realized I already like someone else. Even before him."
"So," he hums inquisitively, "You're dating this someone now?"
You shake your head, smiling sadly. "No, I haven't told him I like him yet."
He gulps. "Why is that?"
"Because after what happened tonight, as much as I want him to know.. I don't want him to think it's because he saved me."
Court is looking at you like you're a thousand-piece puzzle.
You blush. "I know I've liked this guy for a long while now. And I know this isn't the right time, but.. I'm idiotically still trying to tell him. That I like him."
Silence spreads to every corner of the room. And if it weren't for the crickets serenading outside, the silence would be awkward the way it should be.
Court is still saying nothing. He has his eyes on the floor and you have no idea what's going on in his mind.
Typically, you're that friend who advises their other friends to just say it— do it!— Don't ride the merry-go-around.
Yet here you are, dangling on one of the carousel horses as it spins for all eternity.
"You should get some rest." Court says finally.
"Huh?"
"I said, you should get some rest."
"Oh… That's what I thought you said."
He hauls out something from his jacket pocket. "Here.. the channel is all set," he nods at the walkie-talkie, "Keep it open and call me as soon as you need me— or anything."
"Sure," you grab the device absentmindedly. "Good night."
"Good night."
And then he leaves, shutting the door behind him.
You look at the transceiver, place it on the bedside drawer, and expel a hefty sigh. "Ang tanga mo talaga," you tell yourself, forcibly lying down. "Stupid, stupid, stupid! You should've just told him!— Why didn't you tell him? Oh right, because I'm an idiotic, no good, shit for brains, twat!"
A sharp twinge rises up your leg as a scratching pain erupts from the rest of your body. "Ow, ow, ow," you stop thrashing, slowly placing your sprained ankle atop the pillow it was on. You sigh exasperatedly, "I'm such a dumbass."
Tumblr media
"You're such a dumbass!"
"Excuse me?" Court glares at Claire over his shoulder as they climb up the stairs.
She rolls her eyes. "Her message was as clear as the archipelago sun!"
"Whose?"
"(N/N), duh!"
He furrows his brows. "What message?"
She snaps her fingers. "And that's why you're such a dumbass."
"Fine. Whatever. Just get to bed."
"Fine! Let's all see how this stupidity between you and (N/N) plays out!"
Claire storms in her room and noisily shuts the door before Court can retort. He ponders what she's got to be mad about.
He takes a short bath, sets another set of clothes aside for you, and checks the house's security.
No one's after you three.
That's not just why Court suggested you stay with them for a few days. This is better than you staying all night at the cafe alone. And like hell he'll ever leave you alone after what happened tonight.
Court checks the handgun under his pillow as he looks at the guestroom's feed.
If someone did come after them, he'll have no choice but to take you with him and Claire.
Suddenly, he recalls what you said earlier as he lays on the bed.
"...as much as I want him to know.. I don't want him to think it's because he saved me."
You're not talking about him, right?
"I know I've liked this guy for a long while now—"
There's just no way, right?
"—And I know this isn't the right time, but.. I'm idiotically still trying to tell him. That I like him."
Court abruptly sits upright. "Fuck!" he breathes out, wishing he can do the same to the heat in his cheeks. "Don't do this to yourself, man. You're 100% uncertain."
Maybe you were just delirious from the trauma.
Yeah, that's plausible.
But also worrisome.
Court glances over to his desk, where the security feed is showing any events live inside, outside, and ten meters around the house. But he's focused on one feed: the guestroom.
You're fast asleep already. And how you're so unmoving sets paranoia ablaze in his veins.
He has the right to worry, right?
So, it's okay for him to switch on the guestroom's camera audio and cranks it up until he hears your breathing, right?
He puts on one earbud and doesn't dwell on the fact that what he's doing is downright creepy.
Setting up a tablet beside him on the bed, Court finds the security feed on the device. He then lies back down and tries closing his ends. Not after a minute, he ends up watching you on the screen.
'Hopeless..'
He ignores his demons snickering at him.
As he continues eyeing the security feed of the premises, particularly you, Court doesn't realize he fell asleep.
Until he hears you scream.
"NO! NO! STOP— PLEASE!"
Court practically becomes The Flash. He bolts down to the guestroom before his eyes can fully open.
He shouts your name as he bursts in the room. Opening the lights, he finds that you have no (external) attacker.
You're sitting down, yet you looked like you ran a marathon. "Hey, Kurt," you wipe the cold sweat off your brow. "I'm so sorry for waking you."
He stammers. "No. Not really, I.. I just got up to get some water."
You glance at the time, 1:35 AM. "Still, sorry for disturbing you and shit."
Court sighs. "Stop apologizing. How many times do I have to tell you?"
"Maybe 99 more to get it through my thick skull?"
"That's probably not enough."
You laugh, shaking your head, and you scratch behind your ear. "Did I wake Claire up, too?"
Court glances out the door when he hears footsteps. Claire carefully rounds the corner, armed with a handgun dipped towards the floor.
"No, she's still asleep." he blankly says as he turns back to you.
You heave a brow. "Why are you lying?"
Court is taken aback. Was he that obvious? No one can usually read him, not even Claire; although, Donald and Margaret used to.
"Oh, Claire!" you holler in a singsong voice.
The teen reluctantly peers in the room, hiding her weapon behind her. "H-Hiya," she smiles nervously.
You chuckle. "The two of you should get back to bed. I'm sorry for getting you out of there in the first place."
"It wasn't your fault you had a nightmare, (N/N)." says Claire. "Would—"
"Would you like some company?" Court asks just before the teen could. He looks at her in befuddlement, while she sneers maniacally at him.
"No, you two should rest." you give a small smile, "I'll be fine."
Except you didn't get to be.
For the past three hours, you've woken up from several nightmares. Only a few of them did you wake up screaming. Sometimes you can't even sleep immediately because it takes you back to the same bad dream.
It takes all of Court's might not to barge back in the guestroom, lay down next to you, and kick all those nightmares in the ass.
After your first nightmare, Court hasn't slept a wink. He returned to his room and watched you through the security feed. When you've had your second nightmare, he quickly sets up the sandbag in his room and starts whaling on it.
But there's only so much that he can take from hearing your cries. He tried muting your security feed, yet for some reason, it's worse than before.
So, Court has selfishly decided that you need someone with you tonight. Whether you like it or not.
He waited until you're back in deep sleep after a nightmare.
Without little to no sound, Court sneaks into the guestroom and places a chair beside the bed. And as he sits there, it just hits him that he doesn't know what the fuck to do. You'll probably have a heart attack when you wake up and find him staring at you.
How should he comfort you?
He pinches himself when the first thought he has is to get in bed with you. There's got to be another way other than that— it'll be the last resort.
You suddenly let out a grunt, stirring, and Court flinches, readying to flee. But you're still asleep. It's another nightmare.
Court spots your clenched fist and tightens his jaw. He looks at your grimacing face, and for some reason, it's similar to your concentrating face. Now, here's a thought: what if you're suppressing yourself for him and Claire? So that you won't wake them up because of your nightmares.
He chuckles in both disbelief and admiration. That'd truly be you. Even when you're having trouble, you're still looking after them.
Breathing in and out, Court takes your balled hand in both of his. He strokes your fist, tracing patterns on your skin until he feels your muscles release their contraction. Gently, he unfurls your tightened fingers and soothes them one by one.
Compared to his, your appendages are small and smooth. It astonishes him how a hard worker such as yourself has dainty hands. But he stands corrected when he feels a few callouses. Nevertheless, your hand fascinates him.
What would it feel like to hold both of your hands in his own?
The thought is cut short when he feels crescent marks on your palm. Court frowns at that and then at you. "Idiot.. stop taking on everything by yourself," he whispers and carefully holds your hand in both of his. "I'll be here for you, (Y/N). I am here. You just.. gotta see me."
For the second time tonight, Court has fallen asleep watching you.
And once again, you're the one to wake him. But not with a scream this time.
"Court," you softly call, tugging on his hands.
With his name like a feather on your lips, everything within him stirs wildly into life. But he doesn't show that effect you have on him.
He slowly rises from slumping on the bed. "Hey, sorry, did I scare you?" he blurts out with one eye still closed.
You chuckle. "No, you didn't."
"Get back to sleep. I'll just be here."
"Why don't you..?"
"Hm?" Court blinks at you curiously.
You fight back the blush, scoot further in the bed, and pat the space beside you. "I don't think you're comfortable there. Why don't you sleep here instead?"
He gulps. "Aren't you gonna ask me what I'm doing here first?"
"Will you answer me honestly? Or tell me to shut up and rest?" you question amusedly.
"Both?" he stifles a grin.
You shortly laugh before you tug him towards you. It doesn't take long for him to fold. Just you holding his hand is enough to make Court roll over for you.
He worriedly climbs in the bed—
"Oh, wait!"
"What?!"
"Let's switch."
".. Why?"
You redden. "I don't want you sleeping on my sweat, man! Understand?!"
He looks at you for a few seconds and sputters out a laugh. "Alright, fine," he says before you can chastise him for laughing. You scoot over as he rounds the bed, "There. Happy?"
"Very," you nod and settle down.
"Oh, wait!" he exclaims this time.
"What?!"
Court returns to his room to retrieve his clothes that you were going to wear later in the morning. "Change. You stink." he chucks them to you, sneering.
"Go away, then." you snarl.
"Like hell I would."
"Just turn around, moron!"
He obliges, snickering, and when he faces away from you, horrific realization strikes like vicious lightning across his chest.
You're undressing. With him still in the room. And it's just the two of you. Has he mentioned that you're currently undressing?
His demons are biting into the side of his neck, yanking at him to look over at you. This is bad. His self-control is losing a lot of blood.
"Need any help?"
Yup, that's significant blood loss right there.
"No, I got this. Thanks, Kurt."
After an eternity (minute) of suffering..
"Done!" you exhale, relieved.
And so did Court.
He rigidly gets in the bed without glancing at you. His self-control needs recharging, it doesn't help that you're half-an-arms length away. But even just a visual on you is lethal.
The two of you are staring at the ceiling. Until you turn your head to Court, just as he risks a glance at you. His self-control can't charge anymore.
You grin apologetically. "Sorry for keeping you up. Let's get some rest," and roll on your side, facing away from him. "Good night."
"Yeah, night." he replies, staring at your back.
Before horrendous thoughts can start invading his mind, Court notices something amusing.
He stifles a grin, his shirt is like a blanket on you. The way it hangs on you with too many folds screams that you're wearing an extremely baggy top. It'll never not be entertaining to have you in his clothes. What's more, only ⅓ of your feet are sticking out the hem of his joggers.
This time, Court doesn't fall asleep watching you. Because with you up close, he's granted visual acuity to scrutinize you evenly.
Your hair doesn't appear damp despite the cold sweat you're experiencing from the nightmares.
The curve of your shoulder somewhat displays tenacity and elegance simultaneously.
How can such a tiny body hold so much strength and carry such burdens?
Eventually, the nightmares are back. And Court is ready for them.
As soon as you're stirring abnormally and moaning in fear, Court props onto his elbow and carefully grabs your shoulder. He calls your name, shaking you gently.
You jolt awake, breathing heavily. "Court," you look at him, the fear in your wide eyes diminishing gradually. "Did I wake you?"
"No," says Court, steeling his resolve. "Come here."
You almost didn't understand what he said. Until he pulls you to him. And you move compliantly.
Court shimmies his arm under your head, while the other clutches your waist, pulling you closer until there's no space between your back and his chest.
You stifle a squeak when he slips a leg between yours. "Sorry," he says in your hair, "Just gotta get this.."
He clasps the edge of the pillow with his toes and carefully reels it. "Lift your left leg up," he tells you, and you oblige. He leaves the pillow between your legs and grabs the one you lifted. "You can put this down now."
He helps you in setting your sprained ankle down on the pillow.
"Good girl."
Oh, damn..
Thank the heavens you're not facing him right now. He'd probably mistake your face for a stove.
"No nightmare is getting to you now."
"Huh?"
You feel him moving his face against the back of your head.
"I said," he pauses, voice low, breaths fanning on your ear. "No nightmare is getting to you now. Because I'm protecting you."
Your heart finds it hard to go back to its place after cartwheeling up your throat. And when it's reminded of the position you and Court are presently in, your heart threatens to roll out your mouth.
"The nightmares are in my head, though." you chuckle, placing a hand on the arm you're resting your head on, you reach for his hand. "Thank you."
Court watches, with fireworks gleefully exploding in his chest, as you intertwine your hand with his. When the festivities calm down, he gives your hand a squeeze.
"You're always welcome, (Y/N)."

"YOU LOOK GOOD IN PINK"
42!Miles x Hello-Kitty-Black!Reader
Genre: Sugar, spice, and everything nice 🤩
Warnings: Nun, just super cute!
Summary: Your mom finally let's Miles have a sleepover with you, the two of you participate in some hello kitty activities, but not without some convincing!
Miles has always had a soft spot for you, ever since your first day at Visions. You came in 10 minutes late, (You were trying to figure out how to put your hello kitty claw clip into your braids) and sat in the only chair available, the one next to Miles. Everyone else was so afraid to sit next to him after that incident with his dad, they all treated him like he was a ticking time bomb. Like even the slightest touch or wrong thing said would cause him to go off on anyone or anything. But you, you were different.
You sat down next to him, your triple pink dunks lightly tapping against the floor as you sat down. You turned to your left and saw a brown-skinned boy with braids. He was lightly tapping his pencil on the desk to the steady beat of 'Stay Ready (What A Life)' by Jhené Aiko & Kendrick Lamar. "Hey, I know that song." You gently say, trying to make conversation. The boy looked over at you, starstruck. If anyone else would've said that, he'd roll his eyes without missing a beat. But your pleasant smile with glossed lips, your eyelashes gently fluttering, and your shared music taste drew him in. He gave a flirtatious smile, turned to you, and said... "Really? Well I wanna know sum', what's your name, mama?"
Ever since that day, Miles never left your side. That was something you took notice of, but so did your mom. She never let the two of you have a sleepover, when you asked why she always said the same thing.
"That boy never leaves your side, in 9 months we're all gonna need jobs on the side."
This constantly made you roll your eyes, not every teenage girl is the same! But, no matter what you said, she never thought otherwise. So, you and Miles made a Google Slideshow with reasons why you two should have a sleepover. To your suprise, your mom actually agreed under one condition, it had to be at your house. So, with a little bit of convincing Rio, Miles was making his way over. As you were thinking about what the two of you were gonna do, he texted you.
My Big Baby 💞
Outside, mami.
Ok, coming down rn.
Read
You excitedly hopped out of your hello kitty, pink colored bed sheets. The pink LED lights illuminated your room, making you subconsciously even more excited. You speed walked out of your room, catching your mom's attention.
"Your little friend must be here."
"Mom, he's my boyfriend and has been for 10 months. But, yes he is here!"
You say before clapping excitedly and opening the front door to reveal Miles standing there with a pleasant smile on his face, plus two bouquets of eternal roses. One was a pink and white bouquet that resembles hello kitty, and the other with royal blue and white roses to match your Mother's kitchen.
"Hey."
He said before stepping into your home with you closing the door behind him, wearing the hello kitty slippers that he bought for you to wear around the house. He handed you your bouquet and you squealed excitedly, taking the flowers from his hand.
"Ahhh! Thank you, Miles!"
You say, hugging him tightly. He smiles as you pull him into an embrace, happy with your fulfillment.
"No problem, Cariño."
He walked past you, approaching your mom with the flowers.
"These are for you, Ms. L/N."
He said before handing over the 2nd bouquet to your mother. She took the flowers, but not before a lecture.
"Thank you, Miles. This bribe won't work, you still can't sleep in her bed."
Miles chuckled at that.
"No bribe, just an appreciation gift for allowing me to come over."
He said slyly, giving her his most charming smile. You started walking over to him, intertwining your fingers.
"We're gonna go in my room, mom."
"Ok, I'm ordering pizza."
You and Miles walk into your room, excitedly. He admires your whole room aesthetic.
"Mami, this room is somehow more pink than the last time I saw it."
"Well, atleast it's not depressing like yours."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
He said before cooking his head to the side and putting his hands on his hips, something his mom also does a lot.
"Well, mine has color. Your room is just dark purple and black."
You say, also putting your hands on your hips playfully.
"Well, atleast mine doesn't have a cartoon character cult."
He says, before motioning over to your collection of hello kitty plushies and mean mugging you playfully.
"You do, a cult full of random action figures that haven't been opened yet, and just sit on a shelf collecting dust."
"First of all, those are limited edition, collectibles. And you know that, Miss Thang."
He says, holding a finger up and shaking his head side to side sassily. You two burst out into laughter before sitting on your bed. You checked the time and saw it was 6:51 pm. Which reminded you that it was about time to put on the matching pajamas you bought for the two of you.
"OH! Miles?"
"Yes, mama?"
He replied with his arm wrapped around you and tv remote in hand. You stood up, walking over to your dresser, opening your pajama drawer.
"I know you tell me to never buy you anything unless it's your birthday or Christmas, but I saw this and I just had to get it because it was just so cute, plu-"
"Where is this going?"
He said cutting you off, by the way you were trying to convince him he could already tell he wasn't going to like this suprise. You pulled out 2 pink pairs of hello kitty pajamas with kitty's face on them and red hearts. Along with that, there was 2 white shirts with kitty's face on them. Miles looked at the outfits in disgust.
"No."
"C'mon!"
You whined.
"No, there's no way you're gonna make me wear those pink pants right now."
"Fine, then I'll make you wear them later."
Miles opened his mouth to speak, but you decided to respond before he could add a sassy remark.
"Right now, let's do these face masks!"
You say, holding up 2 hello kitty face masks. Smiling, before walking over to him and grabbing his hand. Dragging him into the bathroom with you. Once you two make it into the room, you show him your routine.
"Ok, so first we're going to cleanse our faces, then, we're going to add toner, next a cucumber, hello kitty face mask, next a serum, and finally moisturizer."
"And what exactly is all this stuff gonna do? All I use is cleanser and moisturizer."
"Miles, I love you. But, shut up."
"Yes, ma'am."
He said, before holding his arms up in surrender. You playfully roll your eyes and squirt some cleanser onto both of your hands. You turn on the sink and lather up the cleanser on your hands, Miles does the same. You two lather up your faces and turn off the sink.
"Ok, what'd you say was next? This tone stuff?"
"Yes, Miles. The rosewater toner."
You grabbed the toner and sprayed it 3 times on your face and once on your neck. You began to rub it in with closed eyes. Miles grabs the toner and you hear the sound of the bottle spraying 7 times before you told Miles to stop.
"Miles! That's enough, jeez. That thing was like $28."
"You act like I can buy you another one, I don't care if it was $2,800."
You smirk at his confidence before grabbing the hello kitty masks.
"Ok, grab one!"
You say excitedly, before Miles sighed.
"You're so lucky I love you."
"I am."
You say before kissing his cheek, making him smile. You two take the masks out and he asks a question.
"How long is this supposed to stay on?"
"The label says 15 minutes."
"But it's cold."
He whines.
"Aw, do you want me to put it on you, my big baby?"
You coo.
"Yea."
He says before sitting on the toilet lid. You put your face mask on in the mirror, making sure that it's on right. After yours is on, you make your way over to Miles, straddling his waist before fully taking the mask out the package. You apply it to his face, but not without him squirming.
"Be still."
"It's cold!"
"It won't be in like 2 minutes."
"That's too long!"
You rolled your eyes and finished applying his mask after an extra 30 seconds of him whining.
"You wanna take a photo?"
"Sure, whatever makes you happy, mami."
You pull your phone with a hello kitty case out of your pink legging pocket. You open Instagram and take a picture, adding the caption 'Sleepover day with Bae! @milesdontgaf'.
You two walk into your room and watch an episode of TV to pass the time, guess what show.....Hello kitty! You two watched a 15 minute compilation of season 5 on YouTube. By the time the video was over the two of you walked back into the bathroom to take off the face mask. You told miles to rub the extra serum.
"Now it's time for the Vitamin C serum."
"World's longest skincare routine."
Miles muttered, you slapped his chest.
"Ow."
You applied 4 drops, one to each cheek, one to your neck, and one to your forehead. You did the same to Miles because he whined about not knowing how to do it (🙄). You both applied the moisturizer with SPF 15 and finished in time for dinner. Your mom told you that the pizza was here and you and Miles rushed down the stairs. You saw 2 boxes, one pizza for you and Miles and one pizza for your mom. You two grabbed your pizza, 2 apple juices, thanked your mom, and ran upstairs.
You opened the box to reveal a Hello Kitty shaped pizza. You gasped, squealing from excitement. Miles shook his head smiling at your reaction.
"Miles, baby! Look!"
"I see, mama."
You two ate the pizza and drank your juices while watching hello kitty. Once the two of you finished and threw away the pizza box, you got an idea.
"So, you still don't want to put on those hello kitty pajamas?"
"Y/N, no. I'm not wearing that pink shi-"
You waited outside the bathroom door with your hello kitty pajamas for Miles. You had convinced forced him to put his pajamas on. Once Miles walked out the bathroom, you smiled, hugging him and kissing his cheeks. You were so thankful that he would do anything to make you happy.
"See, you look good in pink!"
"Don't push it."

Double the Trouble [pt. 4] | n romanoff
Tumblr media
Double the trouble au: part 1, part 2, part 3,
Summary: Natasha and Wanda's teenage twin daughters are a lot to handle, but despite their differences and arguments, there's nothing they wouldn't do for each other
Warnings: mentions of cheating
Pairings: WandaNat, O!C x Valkyrie
wc: 3.8k

Y/n had sworn off dating for the foreseeable future. Which was a bonus in Wanda and Natasha’s eyes, who only wanted to keep their not-so-little girls safe. Isla and Valkyrie were different, they were obsessed with each other. But for Y/n’s sake they kept the PDA to a minimum when she was around. Although it had been a week since Y/n found out about Bucky, she was still rather fragile, even if she hated being referred to as so.
She was quieter at home too. It was one of the rare nights where no one had any after school activities and Natasha wasn’t teaching. Wanda had cooked the girls’ favourite meal: tomato and chicken pasta with garlic bread. It was a childhood classic and 7 year old Y/n would have loved it.
But tonight it was different. The usual daily chatter occurred as plates were loaded up with food and everyone began to eat. Natasha and Isla were laughing as the young redhead explained a funny story about her science class, and even though Y/n had been there, her mouth didn’t even twitch into a smile.
She pushed her food around with her fork, stabbing the spiral pasta shapes rather aggressively but never bringing it to her lips. Her actions were repetitive and she zoned in and out without even realising. It’s not like anyone noticed.
But Wanda noticed. She smiled along with Isla’s story but kept her gaze fixed on Y/n the entire time, brows furrowing in a soft frown. She’d seen how much her youngest had drawn in on herself, but there had been little to no improvement, even after a week. Although Wanda wasn’t sure what the general time frame for this was; her first and only love was Natasha.
Her demeanour didn’t change throughout the whole meal time and soon everyone had finished eating, except Y/n. Natasha looked at her wife worriedly who just shook her head.
‘Can you take Isla out of the way for a bit? I need to talk to Y/n alone.’ Wanda spoke in Natasha’s mind. Her wife nodded and made a big deal of collecting up the plates, encouraging Isla to do the same and they both retreated into the kitchen.
“Y/n?” Wanda gently asked, tapping the table in front of the girl whose head was only being supported by her hand. “Sweetheart?”
The young girl hummed and looked up, tired eyes meeting her mothers across the table. She saw the look of pity that she despised so much and rolled her eyes, scraping her chair away from the table in order to leave the room.
“Y/n, wait!” But the teenager didn’t want another lecture on the way she was acting. She just wanted to be alone, didn’t anyone understand that? She didn’t even acknowledge the way her sister and mama fell silent as she stormed through the kitchen. Wanda followed only seconds later and they all watched Y/n’s hunched figure climb the stairs, a door slam following quickly.
“So it went well then?” Isla asked, holding her dripping and soapy hands over the sink as she looked between her moms. “She seemed happy.”
“Shush Isla,” Natasha muttered, handing her another plate to clean. Wanda was chewing on her lip anxiously and even thought Natasha wasn’t the one with mind reading abilities, and still knew what her wife was thinking. “Go talk to her, she isn’t allowed to storm off during a conversation.”
“But, don’t you-“
“Wands,” Nat said, gently holding her wife’s shoulders. “She needs comfort, even if she doesn’t want to admit it. And you’re the best at that, and you know it too.” The witch wasn’t convinced, but a quick kiss gave her a boost of confidence and she ascended the stairs to Y/n’s room, knocking softly.
“It’s me baby, can I come in?” There was the sound of faint rustling and a muttered curse sounded before the door opened slightly.
“I’m fine, I really don’t need-“
Wanda placed her hand on the door. “I know, I just thought you might want some company.” Hesitation was evident across Y/n’s face. “Stop shutting us out, please baby.”
Y/n sighed but opened the door, allowing Wanda to slip inside and close the door behind her. The room was dark, only the small bedside lamp acting as a light source. Y/n crawled onto her bed and leaned against her pillows, blanket pulled high around her body.
“Talk to me sweetheart, what’s going on?”
“Nothing, mom, it’s fine.” Wanda gave her a look. “It’s just- I’m fed up of feeling like shit everyday, but I can’t help it. Every time I start feeling remotely good about myself, I just see that picture and it makes me feel ten times worse. I know I wasn’t with him for very long, but he made me feel on top of the world, and now I feel like garbage.”
“You’re not garbage honey.”
“I know that, but god, why did she have to look like a supermodel?”
“I don’t know, but that’s not a reflection of you, it’s one of him. He made a bad move-“
“I spoke to him today,” Y/n suddenly blurted out. No one else knew what she’d done today, but she couldn’t stop herself.
“Oh?” Wanda couldn’t hide her surprise. She knew it would come eventually, but not this soon. “Was Isla there?”
Y/n shook her head. “No one saw.” She couldn’t stop herself from laughing, which was odd in Wanda’s eyes, though she didn’t dare question it. “I just had to ask why.”
“And what did he say?”
“The most pathetic thing he could think of. He said she came to him and there was nothing he could do, which is bullshit really. So I told him that if he was going to lie, don’t do it straight to my face because my mother is a spy and I see straight through that crap!” Y/n had thrown herself up from the bed and was pacing around, her hands dancing animatedly in front of her as she spoke. “And then- do you know what he said?”
“I think I can guess,” Wanda said with a grimace. “It wasn’t a lie?”
“Bingo!” Y/n yelled, clapping her hands together. “It wasn’t a fucking lie! Now, I wasn’t blessed with your magic but it’s pretty easy to tell how much he was forced into it by where his hands were. Were they by his sides? No! On her goddamn face!”
Wanda had never seen her daughter so riled up before. Sure, Y/n had her outbursts at times, but she’d never been like this. Pacing around the room, her body language was so animated Wanda was sure something was going to get knocked over. Y/n was muttering a spew of nonsense that didn’t even make sense.
She hadn’t spared Wanda much of a glance until her ranting slowly came to a stop and turned around to face her mom, bottom lip quivering as tears welled up in her eyes. This sudden change in demeanour had Wanda rushing over and scooping her into a hug, cradling her head into her chest gently.
“Oh baby it’s ok. It’s ok,” she shushed, rocking their bodies as Y/!n hiccuped into her chest. “Want me to get Mama?”
“I just want you.”
Wanda had to hold back the tears herself. She tightened her grip and pressed kisses to her daughter’s soft red hair. “I’ve got you babygirl, I’ve got you.”
“I’m so sorry.”
“You don’t need to be, everything will be ok.”
“No,” Y/n said, pulling away with a whimper. “I’ve let you and Mama down. I’ve been a shit daughter and sister and I’m really sorry.”
“No, baby, listen to me.” Wanda guided them to sit on the edge of the bed, her hands holding Y/n shaking ones tightly. “He was your first love, first loves are messy. They rarely turn out the way we want them to. But you’ve kept your heart through everything which means you love harder and deeper than most people. And that’s one of the most beautiful things about you.” She reached up to tuck a stray piece of hair behind Y/n’s ear. “Keep it for someone special, because one day that person is going to show up and be deserving of everything you have to give them.”
“How will I know?” Y/n asked, her voice hoarse. She really thought she understood love, but now she just felt like a kindergartener. Lost and always looking to others for guidance.
“It’s not something you know, it’s something you feel,” Wanda replied with a soft smile, tapping her daughter’s chest where her heart sat. “You’ll know when the right person comes along.”
“How did you know?” Her mothers’ love story was something of a fairy tale, and no matter old they got, herself and Isla never became sick of hearing it.
“I knew from the second she smiled at me. She always acted so tough around everyone but she let a smile slip and I knew right there that I was going to marry her.”
Y/n was silent for a few moments, mouth screwed up in thought.
“What’s on your mind?”
The young girl shrugged. “What if I never find that? What if there isn’t anyone out there for me?”
Wanda shuffled over and placed her arm around her daughter’s shoulders. “You’re 17 honey, so young. You have your whole life to find your special person. I didn’t meet your mama until I was in my late 20s. It will happen, I promise.”
“Not if I never date again.” Wanda chuckled at her dramatics, making Y/n smile too. “I’m serious!”
“I know, I know.” They both looked at each other before bursting into laughter. Even Natasha heard from downstairs and she smiled. That was her favourite sound. “It will get easier, you know. Suddenly seeing him won’t feel like the end of the world anymore.”
“I know. I just need distractions.”
Wanda’s eyes went wide as an idea popped into her head. “Why don’t you invite Maria around, and you guys can have a movie night downstairs on the couch? I’ll get Mama to fetch snacks and drinks if you want.”
“But it’s a school night.”
Wanda pulled Y/n in for a hug. “And how my daughter feels is a lot more important to me than some lousy school day. Give her a call and let me know what she says. If she can’t make it, then I guess you have to settle for me and Mama.”
“That doesn’t sound like a bad thing.”
Wanda had to stop herself from melting on the spot. She kissed her daughter’s cheek with a laugh. “Thank you for not being a typical teenager. I don’t know what I would do without my cuddles.” Standing up, she collected a pile of cups and plates that had collected in Y/n’s bedroom over the week. She gently closed the door behind her and was met by Isla and Natasha in the kitchen, sharing a bowl of ice cream.
“I heard laughter, so I’m guessing all went well?”
“For now, at least. I told her she could invite Maria over for a movie night tonight as a distraction.”
“Can I invite Valkyrie?” The moms looked at each other. “Please?”
“I suppose. But she can’t stay over, ok?”
Isla reluctantly with an eye roll before Y/n came into the room, the smile on her face a stark contrast from before. “She said yes!”
“Perfect. I’ll get snacks then,” Natasha announced, grabbing her car keys from the basket. “Isla you coming?”
“Absolutely not,” her eldest exclaimed. “It’s freezing!”
“I’ll come.”
Natasha grinned at Y/n and poked her tongue out at Isla who didn’t even notice as she looked at her phone. “That’s my girl, cmon.”
An hour later, everyone was snuggled on the large couch with a multitude of blankets spread out across the large couch. A rom com played on the large flat screen tv and Isla and Valkyrie were having a competition to see who could catch the most m&ms in their mouth at once.
Y/n and Maria cheered them on from their end of the couch, Y/n’s legs thrown carelessly over her best friend’s lap. The brunette didn’t even notice how her hands rested on her ankles or even how close they were to each other.
They all settled down to watch properly but Y/n had a hard time keeping her eyes open. Her head kept nodding back against the couch arm rest but she refused to sleep. She’d dragged Maria all the way out here, it would be unfair if she fell asleep.
But she couldn’t keep sleep away forever. Isla and Valkyrie had disappeared upstairs, leaving Maria and Y/n curled up together. The young redhead was fast asleep, her head resting on her best friend’s chest. Maria had her arms wrapped protectively around her and her chin gently rested on the side of Y/n’s head. Her eyes were fixated on the movie but every now and then they blinked heavily, the dark room not helping her fight the tiredness.
Wanda and Natasha silently observed from the doorway, noticing a lack of their eldest daughter, and their youngest’s current position. Natasha gave her wife a knowing look before looking back at Y/n. Maria had succumbed to sleep just as the credits started rolling, the upbeat music doing nothing to break their slumber.
Wanda reached for the remote whilst Nat tucked another blanket around both bodies to keep them comfortable. Maria stirred and Nat held her breath, but the brunette only adjusted her grip on Y/n and held her tighter before falling back asleep again.
“What about school tomorrow?” Natasha whispered as she rejoined Wanda in the doorway, fingers hovering over the light switch.
“Y/n is happy. Missing a day of school isn’t the end of the world. We’ll let them rest.”
They closed the door and headed towards the stairs, deciding not to check on Isla. She knew the sleepover rules and they both trusted her enough.
“I really do love you,” Wanda sighed at the bottom of the stairs, looping her arms around Natasha’s waist. “I’m so glad I decided to marry you.”
“I don’t know where this is coming from, but I love you, my wonderful wife.” Natasha Romanoff, ever so cheesy.
“I love you and our girls more than anything,” the Sokovian mumbled against Natasha’s lips before they kissed. It was short and sweet and reminded Wanda so much of their first kiss all those years ago.

Little Blue Toes
An Elvis-o-Ween 2023 One-shot
Tumblr media
A response to the writing prompt "Fall or Halloween".
Comments, concerns and feedback very much appreciated!
like @be-my-ally I sat down to write this today and it got lengthy and I decided to publish it raw....
This is my first time writing from Elvis' perspective, and my first time delving into the supernatural genre... But I just had no idea how to write this story from any other perspective. I was very inspired by the amazing work @peskybedtime and @shakerattlescroll did a few weeks ago writing from Elvis' pov.
Big thanks to my elvis coven @ellie-24 @vintageshanny @whositmcwhatsit @missmaywemeetagain @arrolyn1114 @from-memphis-with-love @lookingforrainbows for their help and support in the fic writing world....
This story is very loosely based on Scotty Moore's history of this show where Elvis reportedly stomped off after four songs and skipped the evening gig.
Summary: It is the summer of 1955, and Elvis and his band are back on a grueling tour schedule. Their first stop out of Memphis is Batesville, AR. The crowd is not kind, the venue is uncomfortable, and so Elvis decides to take off and make his own trouble. Along the way, he comes across a young women who is having an equally bad afternoon, and they find that spending the rest of the day in each other's company might be just the solace they were searching for.
WC: 5.8 K
Warnings: Minors DNI, smut, supernatural elements, coarse language. Typos....
Happy Elvis-o-Ween.......
4 p.m. Saturday August 6, 1955
River Stadium, Batesville, Arkansas
Elvis looked back over his shoulder at where Scotty stood, watching as the wooden platform they were on swayed up and down with the river’s tide.  This had to be one of the trickiest venues they’d come upon this summer and the floating stage made it damn near impossible to move around the way Elvis liked to when he sang.
“A goddamn two-bit raft, is what this is, fellas.” Elvis spit to his right as he swore under his breath, and turned back to his mic.
They had only played two songs so far, starting straight away with "That’s Alright Mama” and “Blue Moon of Kentucky” to try and get the crowd’s energy up with. They still had the rest of this afternoon set and another one at 7,  but Elvis was already drenched from his head down to his toes in sweat. Quite literally. His socks had soaked up the steady stream of water rolling down his legs, and it made his feet squish into his white leather dress shoes as he shifted from side-to-side to get his bearing. Thank god for this white lace shirt, he could stay cool and look sharp no matter how wet he got.
Not that it mattered how he looked, weren’t a cute girl in sight. Elvis looked out at the crowd of people who had meandered over from the main carnival across the street. Most of them were older, farmers and their wives, and a few families. There was only a handful of young folks in the stands, but he figured, from the shrieks and laughter he could hear, that most of the teenagers were up at the fair. He wished he was up there too,  shooting racing ducks or knocking down milk bottles, stead of singing for these frowning old fuddy duddies.
It was a disappointing follow up to their show at the Overton Shell the night before, half of Memphis had shown up after Dewey put out the word on Red, White and Blue. Boy, it had been a great night. Looking down at Dixie’s familiar face in the front row had been reassuring and made him feel at home, filling him up with the confidence he needed to back on tour for two months.
And boy were they kicking out off with a bang. Elvis frowned as he considered what a sad, sorry show this was to begin the tour. He didn’t understand where their fans were. Sam had said their records were selling like hotcakes in Arkansas, and now that the Colonel was getting involved, promotion was supposed to be even better. But the way this audience stared back at him, he’d never know that he was making it as big as Sam or Bob or the Colonel told him he was.
Elvis ran his hand through his wet hair to get it out of his face, and looked over at where their manager, Bob stood, off to the side of the stage trying to smile encouraging. That fat fuck, booking us on this goddamn plank o’ wood in the middle of bum fuck nowhere. Bob’s smile got bigger as Elvis pursed his lips. This whole operation is a fuckin’ disgrace. He couldn’t hear a damn thing once they started playing, the music evaporated out to to the concrete amphitheater across from them and he had no clue if his singing matched anything Bill, Scotty and DJ played. Sighing, he thought maybe it was time for a joke to punch up the crowd. So he hugged his guitar and winked at Bill.
Bill pulled his mic closer. “Hey Elvis, you seen all the pretty little girls in this here town?”
“Why sure, Bill, this town’s got some a sweetest gals this side o the Miss’ippy.”
“Well, this red headed cutie stopped me on my way on stage, grabbed my arm and said, ‘Hiya, stud, how about a bite tonight after the show?"
Elvis mugged for the audience. “Well, whatcha say, Bill?”
“Well, Elvis, I said, I’m busy after the show, honey, but I ain’t doin’ nothin’ now.’ Sos’s I bit her.” Bill followed his punchline with a big grows and a few gnawing sounds.
It was a good joke, it made Elvis laugh out loud every time Bill did it, but the crowd didn’t seem to even register how clever they were. The barge creaked up and down, and Elvis took a deep sigh, announcing out the next song.
“Well, speaking a cute lil gals, this next song, friends, is a hit we just had called Baby, Let's Play House, I hope you like it.”
Elvis closed his eyes, blocking out the dull, blank faces in front of him as he tried to stay balanced, shaking his hips and bopping his left knee up and down to help him keep time with the melody. The stage ebbed up and down, so instead of pacing the front, or doing some of the moves he usually did, Elvis gripped the mic and leaned down to croon the final refrain.
Baby, baby, baby b-b-b-b-b baby, baby baby, baby baby baby, Come back, baby, I wanna play house wit yoooooou
A few little bitty kids started doing a square dance at the front, and he looked up to see one or two teens walking into the stands. But overall, the energy was dead and it was killing his confidence.
“Uh, al right folks, we got many more good songs comin’ up, I jus know ya gonna enjoy our hit ‘I Don't Care (If The Sun Don't Shine).’ Which we’ll play in a hot second. But uh, well, we , uh we, uh - here’s ‘Good Rockin’ Tonight.’”
Elvis really gave it his all and said fuck it to the floating stage, wigging and thrusting his hips up to bolster his diaphragm as he dug deep to find the strength to scream into the powder blue afternoon sky. He opened his eyes, still hardly any movement from the crowd.
“Wouldn’t know a rockin’ tune if it hit them in the face,” he muttered under his breath, and Bill, sensing that the younger man’s mood was turning sour, started another joke.
“Hey Elvis, you know that chick I was talkin’ bout ealier?”
“Uh, yeah Bill? The one ya tried ta et?”
“Yeah, well, you’d a think that a scared her off, but man, these Batesville babies, y’all are fearless, man. Fear-lessss. Why, she begged me to ditch y’all and go home with her right away.”
“Oh man, Bill, whatcha say to that?”
“I said heyyy, baby, the heck are you begging for? You're old enough to ask for it.”
Elvis guffawed loudly, looking out at the audience.
“You’re a good man, Billiam, teachin’ that lil gal some manners.”
The sun was in Elvis’ eyes and he couldn’t see anyone’s face, so he just kept talking, sure of his humor.
“Heck, y’all can send us all ya unmarried womenfolk and we’ll do our best to teach ‘em somethin’. We’re stayin’ at the Wagon Wheel motel, jus down the street. Send any married gals who need a lesson our way too, we ain’t picky.”
A man stood up in the front row.
“Y’all should be ashamed, talkin’ filth like that out here. Ain’t Christian! An it t’aint right!”
The sun started to go down, and now Elvis could see clearly as a few others joined the man to boo them. He looked over at Bob, then back at the band. The guys just shrugged, and Bob yelled out to try and calm the crowd.
“Aw, now, the boy was just joshin, friends, just joshing’ now,  so if you’ll -”
“Play in the ‘Jailhouse Now’!”
“Play some Eddy Arnold or Red Foley!”
“Go back to the city and your sinful ways!”
A fire started to pulsate up Elvis’ belly, he clenched his fists in anger and couldn’t control the need to leave, right there and then, before he embarrassed himself in front of these people.
“Aw, nuts to this, Bobbert.”  Elvis pulled his guitar strap over his head and pushed the instrument into Bob’s arms. Then he grabbed his white sports jacket and jumped to shore, muttered to himself all the way.
“Goddamn alfalfa farmers. Ain’t ever comin’ back here, boy, you can bet dollars to doughnuts on that I guarantee it.”
His anger kept his feet beating the ground for a while, but the midday sun soon turned to dusk and with it came the cooling effect of space and time. Elvis looked up to find that he had stalked a good ways down the river, and the path he walked along was now all packed red dirt lined with tall prairie grass and trees. Regret settled over him, and he kicked a pebble around wondering how upset Bob was gonna be with him. Or the fellas. He hoped that they knew what was up, that they understood what a shit show this gig was. It wasn’t his fault. He had done the only reasonable thing he could do if a crowd didn’t like him.
After all, it was Bob’s fault for booking them on a floating raft at a stupid hick carnival in the first place. He looked at his watch, it was past 6, and they had a 7 p.m. evening show. Elvis clicked his tongue, wondering if he should go back to the motel or wait and show up back at the stage just before 7. Give Bob a good scare. These thoughts, however, were soon interrupted by a loud call for help from the river. A woman’s yell.
Elvis ran to the river bank and spotted the screaming woman, grasping onto a rock as she tried to stop the current from carrying her downstream. He ran over and grabbed her hand, then grasped under her armpits to pull her out completely. Her white gown was so heavy, with layers and layers of wet crinoline underneath, that it caused him to fall back on the grass underneath her. Elvis lay there for a moment, panting as the girl clung to his chest. Her short brown bob was plastered to her head, and she sputtered water all over him as she caught her breath. On her hands were a pair of long, satin evening gloves that were lined with rhinestones sewn along the ridge. Looking her over, he realized her whole gown was shimmering in the dark with rhinestones.
“Like a twinkling angel sent down just for me.” He whispered, unaware he had said it out loud until the girls lips curled in to a smile, and she  pushed herself up.
“Ha, you’re the angel, rescuing me.” She patted his chest. “And now I got you all wet.”
Elvis followed her with his body as she began to sit up, taking off his jacket and wrapping it round her.
“Oh, it ain’t no thang, miss. I like being covering in all your wet. I mean - I uh, well it - uh - it t’aint nothin’ is all. Here, you must be freezing.”
She giggled, as she drew his coat around her shoulders. “Not with you to warm me up.”
“Oh, I can do better than jus an old jacket.” He put his hands at her waist, looking into her eyes as he began to rub her sides up and down. “That ok, honey? Gosh, getting so dark out here, can’t tell if you have brown or green eyes?”
“Hazel.”
“Well, that splits the difference, don’ it.”
“Ha, well, they are hazel, but that’s also my name. Figured we should get acquainted, seein’ as you probably already know my measurements.”
Hazel chuckled as Elvis blushed. “Uh, well, they are some pretty fine measurements, if you don’t mind me sayin’.”
“No, I don’t mind. I don’t mind at all, in fact, you could hold me all day, I’m just so grateful you came along. Thought I was gonna drown.”
“Yeah, hey, say what were you doing going for a swim at this time of day.”
“Ha, dressed like this? It was not by choice, trust me - um - ?”
“Uh, oh yeah, I’m Elvis, Elvis Presley, pleased to meet you.”
Hazel looked down at where her lap straddling him and shivered. Their bodies were so close, that Elvis could feel the icy chill of her skin press down on him through his pants.
“Should I take you somewhere I can get you out of these clothes and in to someone warm, I mean into somethin’ warm?”
Hazel stood, handing him his jacket, as she stripped down to her sheer, white slip, tossing the soaking dress, crinoline and gloves onto the grassy hill near where they were sitting.
Elvis let out a whistle.
“Huh, I didn’t mean here, but man’o man, you won’t see me complainin’. Best show I been to all day.”
He stood up, wrapping her back in the now semi damp jacket, his fingers lingering at her waist, and then trailing over her cheek as he stared at her pale, white milky skin. It seemed almost iridescent Elvis in the low dusk of twilight.
“You feel a little more dry, but still too cold. Wanna go back to my motel and warm up?”
Hazel nodded, and let him lead the way. Once they got to the dirt path, he told her to jump on his back, explaining he didn’t want her lil feetsies to get all dirty, so Hazel perched over him as she navigated them back to town. It was well past 8 o’clock by the time he was sneaking her into his room, hoping that the others either weren’t back, or didn’t hear them. He looked at the clock and sighed.
“Oh well, guess I missed that show too.”
“What’s that?” Hazel asked, as she made her way past his out stretched arm and into the Wagon Wheel’s bright orange technicolor western-themed room.
“Aw, nothing. Say, you sure I can’t take you to get some clean clothes, or shoes? You from here or jus - ”
Elvis gulped and lost his train of mind as he watched Hazel sashay over to the sink and help herself to his toilette. He could see the outline of her white panties through her slip, and in the mirror, a set of pink nipples peeking through the front. It made him half aroused just watching her as she leant over the sink and used his make-up without asking.
“Trying to get rid of me? Don’t you like the way I look?” Hazel simpered with a pout as she turned to find Elvis mouth gaping open in awe at her. He put his hands on his hips to look cool, but missed them completely, unable to find them because he was so distracted by her beauty. He rested them at the top of his thighs instead, which he told himself also looked very cool. Very suave.
“I, uh, um, uh - I. Course I think you look good, suga.”
He heard his words crack and paused to take a deep breath and deepen his voice. Reminding himself to be the ladykiller he knew he was. This gal was half naked and in his motel room, for chrissakes. Clearly, she dug him.
“I mean, yes, lil girl, you look good. Real good. Just worried bout how it will look like when I drive you home in the morning.” He winked and shifted from side to side, raising his eye brow and working very hard not to smile. Only dweebs smiled. Not studs like him.
“You’re sweet, you know, Elvis?” Hazel grinned up at him, as she walked to his wardrobe, and, to his dismay, started putting on some of his clothes. “Can I borrow this shirt and pants? I love pink lace. Look, we match!”
“Well, yeah, baby, whatever you want, but I mean, uh, those are men’s clothes, and well, ugh, they might smell like my cologne or something. Sure I can’t take you back to your place so you can at least grab something more ladylike?”
“No, honestly. I bet there are a lot of folks running around looking for me, I’d rather avoid the fray, if you know what I mean.”
Elvis walked over, as she hooked his pink striped belt extra tight so that she looked  like a hobo, or pirate, the way his pants bunched up around her waist. Her slip was like a chemise, and with his white sports coat, Hazel was like Marlene Dietrich, but instead of a tuxedo, she was wearing his white suit with a pink, lace top. His fingers rubbed her side.
“You ok? Running away from something? Someone?”
Hazel nodded, as his arms circled around her. “You could say that. I’m the Carnival Queen, I was supposed to arrive at the amphitheater down on the river -
“I am well familiar with that floating hunk o junk.”
“Ha, well, I broke up with my fiancee yesterday. See, I decided I don’t wanna get married, I don’t wanna live in this town any more, and he does. He wants a wife, two and a half kids, the whole shebang. Anyway, he asked me to meet him at Stamper’s Bridge before the Carnival ceremony, and, gosh, boy did we get into it, I mean, we really had it out.”
“Did he push you in the river? Cuz if he did, I’m gonna kill him.”
“No. At least I don’t think he meant to, it was all such a blur. But then, he didn’t jump in to help me neither. Now I bet my family and half the town are running round, wondering why I didn’t show up to the crowning ceremony.”
Elvis rubbed her shoulder, sshhhing her. He was conflicted between getting up and punching the wall, and staying there to comfort this sweet, helpless lil girl who fate had placed in his care.
Hazel buried her head in her hands. “Ugh, it is all just so embarrassing. Rather just deal with it tomorrow.”
Elvis picked her up and spoke softly to her as he put her on the bed and began to rub her feet. “Man, your little toesies are so cold, baby, they blue.” He kissed the top of her feet, blowing on them. “Ta warm ‘em up.” Then he rolled clean, silky pink socks over them.
“Reckon these white loafers are too big for you, but at least they match ya outfit. Must be weird, wearing men’s clothing for the first time.”
Hazel smiled as she folded the top of her pink socks down to her ankles. “That’s ok. Suddenly I feel much more confident, like I could rule the world. Or understand math better.”
“Ha!  You’re funny, you know that, lil Blue Toesies? These shoes do make me feel like I could conquer the world, though.”
She leaned closer to where he was kneeled between her legs. “You’re a sweet guy, Elvis. Would it be ok - could I  - can I stay with you tonight?”
“Sho, honey, you the boss.” Elvis leaned closer to her, nuzzling her forehead with his nose. “Oh baby, why, you’re still cold as ice. Let’s go get you some food,  any wheres ‘round here have good chili and hot coffee? That’ll get ya blood flowing ‘gain. Or, I have some other idea - ”
“ Stop! Let’s  go to Mac’s Coffee shop, they have the best chili con carne in town.”
“Well, alright lil gal.” He intentionally used his deep, sexy voice as he stood, and his affect made Hazel giggle. “C’mon now, quiet ya cackling and show this hongry boy - I mean man, honnngry man,  the way.”
The walk to Mac’s was not far, but Elvis kept his eyes peeled for Bill, Scotty or Bob, because he knew that they would be pissed that he had stormed off stage. Then missed the second show. He could hear Bob’s voice telling him it wasn’t professional behavior. Then he’d tell Bob what time it was, yes sireee, he’d set him straight. He just didn’t want to have that confrontation now. In front of a lady. He squeezed Hazel’s hand tight, and nearly fell off the curb at one point when he was sure he saw Bob from behind as they entered the coffee shop. But he’d been wrong.
Hazel had been correct, Mac’s did have the best chili con carne. The fact that it didn’t have any onions, unless you ordered them as one of your fixins’ sealed the deal for Elvis, and he licked his spoon with his last mouthful, then ordered two chili dogs and an side of fries.
“I’m a growing boy.” He smacked his lips and wiggled his eyes at Hazel’s and squeezing her waist.
The guy on the other side of the counter walked by again and gave them a curious stare, his eyes lingering on Hazel as if he recognized her, but wasn’t sure.
Elvis nodded his head at him. “What’s his deal, he keeps looking over atcha?”
“I guess it’s not every day he see’s a girl with my amazing taste in fashion.”
“You do look good in my clothes.” Elvis smirked. “Look even better out of ‘em.”
“You’re a naughty boy, Elvis Presley.”
Hazel pinched his knee, and their eyes locked in a tender gaze. It felt to Elvis as if they had been lovers for years, not strangers who had just met. She had an open heart, like him, he could tell. And a sense of humor. He almost asked her to marry him then and there. But then he remembered that Bob had told him to stop doing that on tour, it wasn’t professional. So, instead, he had  learned other nice stuff he thought made girls happy.
“Gosh ya so pretty. Can’t believe I met such a pretty gal today, this way. Feels bad to call it luck. But that’s how I feel, Baby Blue Toes. Lucky.”
“Aw, I - I bet you say that to all the girls.”
“Only the pretty girls ones I fish outta rivers.”
“Ha! You are funny. You’re a funny boy.” She blushed as he swing his chair around to hit her knees against his. “What do you do, funny boy? Are you a traveling salesman?”
Elvis laughed and stood up momentarily, motioning to his outfit. “What about these clothes says traveling salesman to you, baby doll?” He pulled on his white lace shirt. “I’m a singer, me and my band, well, we were here performing at the Carnival.”
“Ever on the radio?”
Elvis took a long sip of his coffee, eyeing the rest of the coffee shop. It was mostly empty, with another couple at one of the booth’s in the back, and then a Black man drinking coffee over on the side of the counter marked for “Black Folks Only.”  Elvis nodded when he looked up from his newspaper, then whispered to Hazel.
“Uh huh. Ever heard ‘That’s Alright Mama’?”
Hazel hit him, and squeaked. “Yes!” The other patrons looked other, and Elvis grinned awkwardly. “It came out last month, didn’t it?”
“Na uh, baby. Why, it’s been spinning on the radio for over a year. Maybe you just ain’t listened at the right time. Better late than never, I s’pose.”
“Sing something for me?”
“Here?”
“Why not? You’re leaving town, you’ll never see any of these people again. Could be the only night we have together. Why not, who cares what anyone thinks?”
Elvis shook his head, his eyes laughing as he jumped up, and walked over to the juke box with a cocksure swagger. Hazel laughed when she heard the opening of that old Mel Torme record, Blue Moon. Elvis leaned against the juke box and called out to her across the restaurant.
“Better get that sweet little butt over here, Hazel, if you wanna hear me sing.”
Hazel looked at the guy behind the register, shrugged apologetically, and then jumped up to join him. Elvis took her hand, massaging it with his own, trying to get rid of the chill that lingered through Hazel’s extremities. Then he put his hand at her waist, and lead her in a small circle, swaying, as he sang along to the tune. Changing the words, of course.
Blue Toes, you saw me standing alone
With out a dream in my heart, without any wet clothes on
Hazel’s laughter was infectious, Elvis wanted to do whatever he had to keep her laughing. Her smile lit up her face, her whole body, and it didn’t matter that she was only wearing a little mascara, with over sized clothes bunched up at her waist. She was the most lovely, ethereal creature he had ever seen. As they walked back to the hotel, he gaped in awe at the way her skin glittered like faery dust in the light of the harvest moon. They talked and talked as Hazel held his hand, leading him around the town square, pointing to the clothing store her family owned, asking him if he liked singing and what he wanted out of life.
Back at the motel, he closed the door softly behind them as a quiet nervousness worked up his back. He looked her in the eyes.
“Everythin’”
“Everything?”
“That’s what I want, I reckon it sounds silly, but I growed up without much. Now, I want everythin’ I ain’t never had. All the cars, jewelry, houses, girls - everythin’”
Hazel nodded. “Makes sense.”
“You?” His face was shy, and he leaned against the door lock, trying to read the situation and his next move.
“I don’t know. I just want to be in the moment. And right now, Elvis Presley.” Hazel put her arms around him, and closed her eyes. It made all the blood rush to his penis to have her lean on him this way, looking so innocent as she answered him in a breathy, low voice. “I just want you.”
He helped her take off his clothes as he carried her to the bed in her slip.  “Oh baby, I feel the same way.”
She tasted like chili spice and coffee, and her whole body shivered with a chill. Elvis rubbed her up and down, over her hips, her legs, the sides of her ribs. Then he crawled over her to warm her with his body heat, and his eyes closed as he felt her knee go up between his legs.
“Goddamn.” He muttered, grazing over it delicately at first, then grinding harder.
He cupped her face.
“Are you ok?”
“Mhmmm.”
“Tell me to stop, at anytime, ok, baby? Ain’t gonna do nothin’ you don’t want me to.”
Hazel nodded, her mouth hung open and longing animating her eyes. They were like two jewels affixed to the top of a beautiful, pale ivory tower. A tower he wanted to climb. Her skin was still cool,  it and soothed the volcano boiling underneath his calm, steady visage.
Her lips twitched apart as his fingers delicately made their under her slip, and he arched his eyebrow in a silent request as he started to work her panties off.
Bill, Scotty and DJ must have just gotten back, because he heard a group go into Scotty’s room and begin pounding the wall before they burst into a fit of drunken giggles.
“Don’t listen ta them, that’s my band. Those jackasses is jus teasin.”
“It’s ok, it’s ok. I know what it’s like to have friends.”
Elvis grinned down into Hazels warm, inviting smile as his lips ghosted over hers. He could feel her lashes mingle with his and it was so perfect, he didn’t want to spoil the moment, he wanted to remember her like this forever. So he took it slow. Pressing into her mouth gradually, stretching out this first contact for as long as he could. Then breathing into her mouth as it cracked apart, and sinking onto her bottom lip to caress over it back and forth, flicking the tip of his tongue inside.
His fingers slipped inside her labia, and looked around until he found her button. It made her moan out, loudly, even though Elvis was still awkwardly fumbling his way around the clitoris, trying to figure out how to touch it in a way that got her to moan out again.
“That ok, honey?”
“Uh huh, just, just a little to the left, softer, softer, oh god!”
He laughed in her neck, satisfied at his machinations, then sat back, spreading her labia so he could watch what he was doing. He spit into his hand, like Bill and Scotty had told him to do, like he had with other girls. The wetter the better, Bill had said, drives women wild the you get that button at the top of their cooch all slippery and fiddle with it.
“How’s that?”
Hazel opened her eyes and looked up at him, her eyes rolling back as he moved his thumb back and forth on the side of her little nub.
“It feels really good. I - I never had anyone touch me, not like this. Never had anyone ask how I liked it, neither. And, well, I never go to third base with someone I just met.”
Elvis kissed her on the check. “S’destiny, honey. I was meant to find you today. Meant to make you feel good.”
Her hand went to his groin, and palmed over the stiff length she found there. She paused at his belt.
“I believe you were. How about you, Elvis, can I make y-y-you feel g-g-g-ood?”
Elvis stilled her hand. “Ya are, honey, ya are. Doin’ this makes me feel good.”
Eyebrows furrowed in concentration, Elvis smiled as he found a spot that made Hazel quiver when he flicked over it, and around it, and back and forth beside it. With a tentative glance, upward, he bent down and parted her lips, kissing her public hair as he affectionately began to lick over where his finger had been. Hazel cried out, arching her back and thrusting further in to his face at the sensation.
Elvis laughed in to her as his hands moved to hold her steady. The succession of breathy moans his tongue elicited was so exciting, he could feel his foreskin roll up against his trousers. Diving between Hazel’s legs was like jumping into a cool creek back in Tupelo on a hot July day. It was sweet and soothing, and he chased the cool taste of summer that he found there, flattening his tongue against her as he worked to figure out how to make her moan out again.
He felt her tremble, and looked up to see  her face contort in to a thousands states of pleasure. Watching her come undone and cry out her release as she convulsed around his head sent Elvis over the edge.  He felt his own dam burst below where his hips rocked back and forth over the bed spread and shuddered his release into the side of his pants. Heaving, he collapsed into her waist while his hands now moved languidly over her cool belly and the room was still save for the sounds of their shattered breath.
The boys had obviously heard them and clanging against the wall again, crying out Oh Elvis! in high, falsetto voices.
Elvis grimaced as he climbed up the bed to lay next to Hazel and wiped his mouth on his arm before pulling her into him.
“Trust me, I am gonna kill those boys tomorra.”
She rolled on to his chest with her eyes closed and a big, sated smile on her face.
“Aw, they love you, Elvis. They only tease you because they love you.”
‘Huh. Maybe.” He soothed her head, and brought the blanket over them as they settled deeper in to the bed. “Aw honey, still feel kinda chilly. Wish I didn’t have to leave, wish I could stay with you forever, keep you warm. We’re the perfect fit, you know that? Everyone always tells me I run hot, and well, you, you run cold.”
“I know you have to go. Maybe I’ll see you at one of your engagements. I think I’m gonna move to Little Rock, ever go through there?”
Elvis kissed her head and wrapped his arms around her tight. “You better believe it, go through Little Rock every tour. Wanna see you there, right at the front of the stage.”
He squeezed her to him even closer, enjoying the way she rubbed over his lace shirt as they drifted off to sleep talking about nothing and everything.
It was 10 or so the next morning when Elvis awoke to find his bed empty and the clothes she had worn strewn throughout the room. He rubbed his head. “Did she walk home barefoot? In a slip?” He muttered to himself as he changed his clothes and went to pound on the boys motel rooms so they could all go forage for breakfast together.
The men gave him a hard time, rubbing his head and asking how many little girls he had in his room that night. They didn’t mention the performance, as if they had previously agreed to let Bob handle that one.
Elvis shoveled another mouthful of his biscuits and gravy into his mouth as he tried to describe Hazel to them. “You boys don’t understand, she was like an angel sent from heaven just for me. I gotta see her again.”
A waitress went by with a pot of coffee, and Elvis grabbed her wrist, motioning for a refill. As she clucked an “ouch, alright alright” at him, he had an idea and spoke to her with a mouth full of biscuity sausagey gravy.
“Scuze me ma’am, you wouldn’t happen to know the name of the Carnival Queen, would you? Hazel? Hazel sumpin’? Folks own the small department store off tha square ova there?”
The waitress’ face went ashen and she shook her head before stomping away.
“What’s up her butt?”
The older man sitting on the other side of Bill leaned over.
“Y’all must be confused. Hazel Stein was the Carnival Queen last year, and what happened to her was a tragedy. A damn waste of a pretty little girl.”
Elvis’ mouth hung open, and he looked to Bill and Scotty. “Nah, can’t be. I just met her. Hazel, you say, the Carnival Queen?”
“Yup.” The old man nodded. “Fell in to the river and drowned. Why, musta been a year ago yesterday.”
Elvis head spun, and he nearly choked. She had been real, she must have been. He could still smell her scent of summer on his face and hands.

Peach Tea in Tennessee | One
Tumblr media
Pairing: Elvis Presley x black!reader
Word Count: 6K
Summary: Love is wasted on the young, or so they say. This isn’t the case for Elvis. He never dreamed of it happening to him, but a girl with the nude brown sunhat who sits in the park near Lauderdale Courts with the romance novel in her hand would change a lot of his thoughts about what true love truly means. This is a love story for the young and old, this is the love story that deserves to be told.
Warnings: teenaged!elvis, black bookworm!reader, smut (in later chapters), fluff, angst (lots of it), twists and turns, slow burn, a classic love story, written in the segregation/civil rights era, mention of racial slurs, happy ending???
A/N: Hey there babies, welcome to the beginning of Peach Tea in Tennessee. I wasn’t for sure if this would be a series or not, but because of my darlings, it has become a series! I’ve gotten some ideas from some of my babies and decided that this shouldn’t only be a one-shot so this is what it has come down to. This was a request from a wonderful anon who blew my mind with what she asked for. I don’t wanna keep you guys but I’m truly excited to see how this series will turn out. I hope everyone sticks around and enjoys the love story of Elvis and his little peach. 💗
masterlist.

Summers in Memphis were unusually scorching. The neighborhood kids would find themselves spending their breaks away from school by the lake or playing in the streets near a busted fire hydrant.
Elvis was no different.
Although he wasn’t necessarily popular with his peers at Humes, he still had a small circle of people he would like to think were his friends. One blistering summer day, Elvis was heading to the lake to meet with his friend, Red West. He had to beg his mother to allow him to take the car, but he knew that she would worry that something would happen to him during the route.
He started the journey there, his trusty guitar thrown over his shoulder and a song in his head. It would take him longer on foot than if he would have gotten the keys to his 1941 Lincoln, but he felt that he needed the exercise. He cursed under his breath as the blistering sun beamed down on his skin, eyes hooded as he tried to keep himself composed.
As he rounded the corner, he could make out a few of the neighborhood kids from his school who would in their spare time make jokes about his lanky form or his fashion. They would call him ‘squirrel’ or ‘mama’s boy’, but it didn’t bother him much. While he kept his eyes forward in hopes that they didn’t notice him, his eyes cut to the local park that all of the poor families of the neighborhood would frequent.
His family lived in Lauderdale Courts, the first of many housing projects that were owned by the government. The local park was a place where he and his family would often spend their time when they needed a place that was less stuffy than the two bedroom apartment that they lived in. He continued forward, his eyes lingering over the people who were out and about with their children or with their significant others.
However, there was one woman who stood out the most to him. You sat on a knitted quilt, the patterns catching his eyes with little birds and sunflowers on each piece of fabric. You had a nude brown sunhat on your head, but he could count the amount of curls on your head as your face was pushed into a book. Your cocoa brown complexion shone under the heated sun, the sundress that you wore was almost cream but it made your complexion stand out.
Although he couldn’t see your face, he knew that you were beautiful. Elvis was almost starstruck with how content you seemed, book in hand, surrounded by little eatables that he figured that you liked. While he was caught in wonder at the beautiful girl who sat in the entrance of the park, he bumped into something or someone. He didn’t want to turn away from her and from the looks of the person who stood in the way of his dream girl, he wished that he hadn’t.
“Hey Squirrel, where are you headed?” The voice caught him by surprise.
He sucked in a breath, feeling the presence of two more people behind him. It was Richard Dundy and his goons, the football stars at Humes who often were at the forefront of his teasing. His electric blues glared at the boy, sidestepping him as he only wanted to keep walking until he made it to the lake. His eyes turned back to where you were sitting only to find that you had placed the book aside as the commotion distracted you. Your eyes burned into the boy who stood in front of him, daggers in your eyes as your lips sat in a tight line.
“Why don’t you leave him alone?” His eyes widened like saucers at the sound of your voice.
He didn’t think that you would sound as beautiful as you looked; your bronze eyes watching their every move, but hadn’t once looked in his direction. Then your eyes turned to look at him and he could have sworn that his heart jumped out of his chest. He didn’t want you to get involved, he wouldn’t be able to live with himself if you had gotten in trouble by defending him. Especially because you were on the different spectrum when it came to race. However, race didn’t matter to him. You were incredibly breathtaking and he would come to your rescue if he needed to.
“Nobody was talkin’ to you, little lady.” Richard spat, the hatred filling his eyes as they raked over your body.
Elvis could see red, reaching forward to grip the boy’s collar before leaning into his ear. “You don’t talk to a woman that way, I don’t care who she is.”
Richard smirked, his eyes moving from you before turning back to the boy in front of him. By the look of his wild eyes, Elvis knew that he brought unnecessary trouble to you. But, as troubles would often come and go in his life, he knew that he didn’t like the way they looked at you. He found himself wanting to protect you, even if it was from himself.
“Oh, so little mama’s boy has a darkie as a girlfriend? You never fail to disgust me every time I see you.”
That did it.
Elvis didn’t hold himself back as he reared his fist back before connecting it to Richard’s smug face. He heard you gasp, but all he could see was red. As he tussled with Richard on the ground, he could feel his goons struggling to pick him up from where he sat, fists connecting with every part of his face that he could reach. At that moment, he was pushed off but his eyes never left yours as he watched you covering your mouth at the commotion in front of you.
He was so embarrassed that he made a fool of himself in front of you. Once the situation died down, he looked in your direction once more, almost falling back down on the concrete from your beautiful smile. He couldn’t be in your presence looking the way that he did, so he gave a small smile to you before continuing on his way.
You were shocked that a guy like him would have issues with others. In your mind, you figured that he was popular, but due to the situation that happened before you, you felt pity for the boy. You could only hope that you would have the chance to express to him how grateful you were that he stood up for you.
Tumblr media
Days went by without the sighting of the lanky, blue eyed boy who pummeled the rascal that spoke to you in such a hateful manner. You shouldn’t be surprised though, you lived in such a time where people would spit in your general direction. Not him, you hoped. However, as time went on, you would begin to believe that the situation days prior was only a fluke. When he didn’t show up in the days following the incident, you were beginning to think that it was the last time that you would see him.
What you didn’t know was that he would walk that same path past the park once you were gone, his heart hopeful to catch a glance of the beautiful girl with the bronze complexion that shimmered under the sun. He was beginning to lose hope as well when he didn’t see the beautiful quilt or the nude sunhat that sat on the crown on your head. How he wished that he wasn’t a coward, that he didn’t even know your name. He couldn’t face you after you witnessed him struggling to seem macho.
He didn’t want to approach you, with the fear that you would view him as a boy who couldn’t hold his own. That he couldn’t protect you from the dangers that you dealt with on a day-to-day basis. Elvis was conflicted; he wanted to hide himself away from you, viewing you as a goddess that deserved to be treated with the utmost respect but he also wanted to get to know you. He wanted to know what you liked and disliked, he wanted to be the man who made you smile like you always did when you were neck deep in those books of yours.
One summer afternoon, Elvis walked that same path with his guitar strapped to his back. His cerulean eyes searched the entire park for the dark-skinned beauty who had become a fixture of his daily thoughts. He was eager to see you once again, but he wasn’t willing to have his hopes shattered at the reality that maybe he had scared you away. He told his mama all about the girl who captured his attention, how you loved romance novels and little snack cakes. His cousins teased him about how he was becoming a hopeless romantic, after all, they were used to seeing him being chased by girls on the regular. You weren’t like those girls, he refused to believe that you would throw yourself all over him because of his act of chivalry.
Elvis needed to know your name. He knew that it would taste sweet on the tip of his tongue, but he had no clue where to find you. Elvis didn’t know if he would ever see you again, but he wasn’t willing to give up until he captured your beauty in his sights once more.
“Excuse me sir, I’ve seen you walk past this park every single day. Are you looking for someone by chance?” Elvis turned to see a taller woman with the same complexion as the girl who graced his dreams.
It wasn’t you, but maybe she would know where he could find the smaller framed woman that he has been searching endlessly for.
“Uh y-yes. Ya see, ‘m lookin’ for a short woman. W-with the b-beautiful b-ronzed skin that shines under the sun. She’s always readin’ a book or somethin’, n-nude sunhat?” He stammered over his words, cheeks tinted with pink.
The girl in front of him pondered over his words for some time before a knowing smile crossed her lips. Elvis didn’t miss the way her eyes lit up as if she knew exactly who he was talking about. She stepped away from him, peering at him with an unyielding gaze before she opened her mouth.
“So you’re the boy who punched that scoundrel in the face?” She asked, eliciting a nod from Elvis as he twiddled with his thumbs.
Elvis didn’t know where the girl was going with the conversation, but he didn’t press her any further. He was sure that she didn’t know the unknown woman who plagued his dreams every night, but he was surprised when her smile grew. “You’re looking for Y/N. She’s been at the park everyday, lookin’ for you. However, when she didn’t see you, she was beginning to give up so she took a break for a while. I can tell you where she lives if you want to find her?”
Elvis’ knees nearly gave out at the sound of your name. Y/N. He was right that your name was just as beautiful as you were. The girl gave him your address and he became immediately familiar with the neighborhood; after all, that’s where he would frequent with his buddies when they went looking for the hot spots to catch a glimpse of his favorite musicians. Elvis was the type to not chase his tail while trying to get a girl’s attention, but he didn’t mind making a fool of himself in order to get yours.
That same night, he sat at the dinner table with his folks happily chewing up the meatloaf that his mother had made. His mama knew that he was growing impatient with the search for the girl who caught her boy’s attention. It was then at the dinner table that she knew that something had changed, but she couldn’t put two and two together at that time.
“What’s got you so happy, baby?” Gladys placed her fork back down on the plate, catching Vernon’s attention as he sipped from his beer bottle.
“Why can’t the boy be happy, Gladys? He’s been down in the dumps since last week, maybe something good happened at school.” Vernon grunted, turning to face his son as he looked at the both of his parents.
“Nothin’ ever good happens at school, Daddy.” Elvis started, placing his fork down on the table before grabbing the glass of his mama’s famous lemonade, taking a couple of gulps before placing the glass back down on the table.
“If nothin’ ever good happens at school, son, why don’t ya tell us what’s got ya so merry then?” Vernon pressed, a smirk crossing his lips as he knew it had something to do with the short brown-skinned woman that his son wouldn’t stop yammering about.
“I finally found that girl that I was tellin’ yous about. Her name is Y/N and she lives out there by Beale Street.” Elvis grinned, his cheeks burning pink as he felt embarrassed about how jubilant he sounded when speaking your name.
“That’s great news, baby. Are you gon’ invite her over for dinner?” Gladys questioned, a soft smile crossing her lips as she took in the horrified look on her son’s face by the question she asked.
“Mama, I don’t wanna scare her away by invitin’ her to meet my parents so early when I didn’t even know her name until earlier today.” He groaned, brows furrowed as he so desperately wanted you to meet his parents.
“I’m thinkin’ about askin’ her out on a date first. She may not even be interested in me, I’m white and she’s black. That may be a problem for her.” He frowned, scratching at the back of his neck as his ears burned red.
Gladys frowned at her son’s ignorance, sending a sharp glare in his direction before turning to her husband. She knew the era that they lived in, but she could never understand how people could have an hateful perception of a dynamic of people based on the color of their skin. Back in Tupelo, Gladys remembered a kind woman who welcomed her and her son with open arms when they became the only white family to move into Shake Rag. From then on, she had come to love and cherish every human that graced the world.
The good Lord’s word always preached to love thy neighbor and in her eyes, black people weren’t an exception to the rule. She didn’t miss how Elvis was always fascinated by the tent revivals that happened in the same town of Shake Rag, listening to him become thrilled about the type of music that he wanted to make once he grew older. Although she worried about her son, she always wanted her son to be happy. A couple of grandkids didn’t hurt either.
She knew that it was a little bit early to talk to her son about her desire to see her son happily married with children of his own, to fill the void that she has always had since her beloved Jessie earned his angel wings. God knows that she and Vernon couldn’t bear having another child, the uncertainty that the same would happen to it if they pushed through. Having Elvis was enough, but she couldn’t help but to think that maybe growing old and witnessing her precious son having his own family would fill the hole that became engraved in her heart.
“I’m sure that she would be delighted to go on a date with you, son. Don’t let the segregation laws stop ya, but whatever ya do, be careful. You may not know it now, but people are evil. Ya don’t want nothin’ to happen to that beautiful girl.” Vernon spoke up, picking up the bottle of beer before taking another swig.
“Yessir.” Elvis drawled, eyeing his mother who seemed deep in thought. “Everythin’ alrite, mama?”
Gladys returned her son’s gaze, mustering up a small smile as she nodded her head. “Your father is right, baby. Keep that girl safe, Elvis. I couldn’t bear the thought of anything happening to you or to her. Whenever you’re ready, Vernon and I will welcome her with open arms.”
That gave Elvis the push that he needed to ask you on a date, pushing his chair away from the table before grabbing his coat and the keys to his Lincoln. He wasn’t going to miss this opportunity, not by a long shot. “Where are ya going, baby? It’s late.”
He turned to face his parents. Vernon wore a grin on his face, while Gladys looked confused. Elvis sucked in a breath, a toothy grin spreading across his lips. “‘m goin’ ta ask her on a date, I ain’t waitin’ any longer. Thank ya, Mama, Thank ya, Daddy.”
Tumblr media
Elvis shut the door behind him, not giving his parents any more time to keep him at the house longer than he wanted. He climbed into his old Lincoln, pushing the keys in the ignition before speeding away from Lauderdale Courts with only one thing on his mind. He knew that he wouldn’t be able to go to sleep that night without asking you out. The words that his parents had spoken at the dinner table rang in his mind as he drove to your address, but he was filled with so much excitement that he realized that he was nearing your home.
He didn’t pull near your home in fear that he would get you into unnecessary trouble, turning the lights off of his car before getting out. He noticed that there was only one light on in the house, a smile crossing his lips as he realized that it was your room. He crept up to the proximity where he could get your attention. Elvis was filled with nervousness  each step that he took to your house, careful not to step on any object that would alert the neighborhood that he was creeping around your window.
Elvis picked up a few pebbles from your flower bed, chucking a few towards your window. He sucked his teeth as a few missed your window, but he grew confident once he adjusted his aim. His eyes lingered towards your window, nerves eating up at his body as he took in your beautiful form making your way over to investigate the noise. He threw two more pebbles, smirking as you pulled your window open with a glare on your face. “Who is-?”
“It’s me.” You turned your eyes to look over the lanky boy who stood in your yard, pebbles in his hand and a lopsided smile on his lips.
It surely couldn’t be the boy who you saw at the park, you thought. Your eyes adjusted to see that it was indeed the tall, lanky boy who wrestled in front of you the week prior. Your glare faltered from your face, becoming replaced with uneasiness at the fact that he was standing in front of you. You would have remembered giving him your address, but you haven’t been able to see him for days. Why was he here now?
Surely, he must have known that you were looking all over Memphis for him. As you took in his goofy smile and his shimmering eyes, you forgot that you were standing in front of him in your nightgown. You reached over to grab your robe before tying it around your body before leaning out of the window to address the boy whose name you still didn’t know.
“What are you doin’ here? It’s late, you know?” You giggled, placing your hands on the windowsill, leaning out to see that he was bouncing his legs like he was on fire.
“I know what this looks like, darlin’. I must look like a creep standing at your house like this so late, but I’ve been lookin’ fer ya everywhere. Your friend told me where you lived so I wanted to come by to let ya know that I haven’t forgotten about ‘cha.”
Trisha must’ve told him about how you were sitting in the park everyday around the same time looking for him. You made a note to tell her off once you saw her the following day, but you pushed that task to the back of your mind before returning the boy’s gaze. “Well, can I at least have the name of the boy who is standing in my yard? You ran off so fast the other day that I didn’t get the chance to ask.”
“E-elvis, my name is Elvis.” The southern drawl caught your attention.
You’ve never met a boy with such an unusual name, but you thought that it fit him. You giggled, rocking on your feet as you smiled softly down at him. “Well, Mister Elvis. I wanted to thank you for standing up for me the other day. I’m Y/N.”
“I-I know. Y-your friend told me your name earlier today when she stopped me.” He stammered over his words, you could make out the pink tint of his cheeks as his eyes looked everywhere rather than at you.
“I'm gonna kill Trisha.” You muttered, rolling your eyes at the fact that she was the one to tell him your name.
“W-what was that, darlin’?”
“Oh nothing, so may I ask why you’re here so late?” You asked, tilting your head, your curls falling in your eyes before you nervously moved them away so you could see him fully.
“I-I was in the neighborhood a-and I-I-I wanted ta know if ya wanted to go out on a date with me? Y-ya don’t h-haveta s-say y-yes, I just felt like I w-would ask.” There he goes again stammering over his words, softly cursing under his breath as he figured he sounded like a fool stumbling in front of you like this.
He looked up at you, twiddling his thumbs as he waited for any reaction that he could get from you. The silence bothered him, putting thoughts in his head that maybe he bit off more than he could chew until finally, you opened your mouth to speak.
“I don’t see why not? When do you want to go on this said date?” You asked, your voice sounding like music to his ears.
Elvis was stunned. He didn’t think that you would agree the first time, but he was so glad that you did. He thought for only a moment before tilting his head up to look at you, his blue eyes glowing with excitement. “Are ya free Saturday? We can meet on Beale Street, if that makes ya more comfortable? I-I-I don’t have any problems with anything ya agree with.”
Your giggle reached Elvis’ ears once more, his heart fluttering in his chest as he took in your beautiful appearance. He could die happily tomorrow if all he heard last was your elegant laugh. “Saturday it is, Elvis. Now, go home! I don’t want to get caught by my parents talkin’ to a boy this late.”
“I’ll see ya Saturday, darlin’. Goodnight.” He couldn’t keep his smile at bay, grinning up at you before stepping backwards almost tripping over his feet.
He silently cursed once more, hearing your beautiful laugh grace his eardrums before waving at you as he walked away from your house. As he rounded the tall hedge of bushes that hid your house, he pumped his arm in victory. He couldn’t wait to get home and tell his parents that he would have a date. As he climbed into his car, he couldn’t keep his smile off of his face, excited for the rest of the week to pass so that he could see you once again.
He made it back home safely, the smile still prevalent on his lips as he entered the living room where his mother was sitting with his grandmother, Dodger. He sank down on the couch, still holding on to his keys and his jacket. He was so caught up in his thoughts that he didn’t realize that his mother was calling his name. “Yes, mama?”
“How did it go, baby? Did she say yes?” Gladys laughed, patting his knee.
“Mama, she’s so beautiful. I ain’t think that she would agree, but she did. Oh, mama, I can’t wait to see her again.” He spoke fast, not stopping once to catch his breath.
“Calm down, baby. I knew that she wouldn’t say no to my boy, look at you. You’re such a sweetheart, I’m sure she will find that out for herself soon.” Elvis grinned in his mother’s direction, bouncing his knee as his thoughts returned to the brown-skinned beauty whose smile lit up his world.
“I’m gonna go to bed, mama. I’ve got school in the mornin’.” He stood up from his seat, pressing a kiss to his mother’s cheek before going over to kiss his grandmother’s forehead.
As he laid in bed, he couldn’t keep the smile away as he replayed the look in your eyes as he stuttered over his words. He couldn’t help himself, you were too pretty for him to let you slip out of his fingers. He knew that Saturday was a few days away, but he couldn’t wait any longer. He knew that he had to, but that didn’t mean that he liked the idea. As sleep overtakes him, the only thing that his mind replayed was the graceful sound of your laughter.
Tumblr media
The rest of the week went by slowly, much to the chagrin of you. You couldn’t stop thinking about the tall boy named Elvis who appeared at your home on Monday evening. Trisha picked at you, wanting to know what he talked to you about. You didn’t miss the time to also let her know that it wasn’t polite that she was the one to tell him your name or where you lived for the matter. In fact, you wanted to be the one to tell him yourself.
“Come on, Y/N, would you have actually told him where you lived even if he asked you out on a date at that stupid park?”
“That’s not important. I wanted to be the one to tell him things about me.” You retorted, tilting your hat properly on your head before turning to face her once more.
You dismissed yourself from her, giving her a tiny smile before you made your way to the familiar park that became your second home. When you first found it, you were amazed at how much you felt free. Your parents weren’t ever home, leaving you to find your purpose on your own. Books became your main source of comfort in the time of loneliness; the words popping off of the page and becoming part of your world.
You were in another world due to the romance novel that you had begun to read when the sun suddenly disappeared from your face. You tilted your head up to meet the icy blues of the boy that you had been thinking about. You thought that he looked handsome as he stood in your yard the other night, but nothing could have prepared you to see him up close and personal. Your eyes lingered on his face, a shy smile crossing your lips as you placed the novel in your hands beside you.
“Good afternoon, peach. I thought I would find ya here.”
You didn’t miss the hitching of your breath and the increase of your heartbeat at the name of endearment. You struggled to find the words to speak, but nevertheless, you pushed through. “Afternoon, Elvis. How can I help you?”
You mentally slapped yourself at how demure you sounded. You turned your face away from him for a short time before turning back to look at him. He still wore the same smile as he did when he was at your house, something that you were starting to like about him. You waited for only a short while, the silence sweet and welcoming as you stared into his blue eyes.
“Well, I know that we are supposed to go on a date soon but I wanted ta come sit with ya for a while. Y-you don’t h-haveta agree, but I just wanted to.” He stammered, your face in awe at how flustered he became when he spoke to you.
“I don’t see why you couldn’t. I brought some snacks, if you wanted to try them.”
Elvis hummed, sitting next to you on your quilt. His eyes wandered over the different snacks that you made, a small smile lingering on his lips before he turned to face you once again. You could make out the small acne lines that littered his overall clear skin, his blue eyes shining beneath the sun before he parted his lips.
“What are ya readin’ today?” He asked, pointing to the book that now laid beside you.
“The Great Sophy, it’s written by Georgette Heyer. She’s one of my favorite authors, have you heard of it?”
He shook his head, waiting for you to continue with your thoughts of the novel. You were blown away at the fact that he was so interested in learning about the books that you were reading. The boys that you would talk to before him were never interested in the same things as you were, often dismissing your love for novels because they thought it was a bit unsuitable that a girl like you would indulge in childish books about romance. Elvis seemed to welcome it and more, wanting to learn more about you the more than he was around you.
“Well, the protagonist, Sophia travels with her father during the Napoleonic war because he’s known as a diplomat. After Napoleon is exiled, she follows her father to South America where he has taken up a temporary post. She gets along with most of her cousins when they arrived, but she doesn’t get along with one: Charles Rivenhall. He finds her annoying to put it lightly.” You started, your eyes never leaving Elvis’ as he soaked in your summary.
“So Charles has a lot happening in his life. He assumed the role of the adult of his family due to his sickly mother and his gambling addict of a father. He’s also engaged to marry a woman who I think he doesn’t need to be with, Eugenia. She’s very spiteful, very tyrannical in a way. Sophia feels as if she needs to save the family, so she makes it her mission to solve the problems that are plaguing the family. According to where I am, she and Charles are supposed to fall in love with each other, although they don’t take to one another.”
“But aren’t they cousins? That’s gross.” Elvis chuckles, picking up one of the strawberry cupcakes that you baked the night before.
“I suppose that would be seen as gross in our time, but this story is written in 1816 so it wasn’t uncommon for familial romance. Although it is boorish, it’s still sweet that Sophia is willing to save his family. She doesn’t have anything to lose other than his fiance, Eugenia who has everything given to her.”
“Do you see yourself like the character Sophia? Do you relate to her?” Elvis asked, catching you off guard.
You turned back to look at him, mouth agape as you thought about the question that he had asked you. In most of the novels that you had read, you found yourself comparing the characters in the stories to your life. You could see some similarities between you and Sophia, minus the falling in love with your cousin. You would like to believe that you were independent and outgoing as she was.
“In some aspects, yes. She’s very independent, outgoing, and elegant. I don’t know about the elegance part, but I am fairly independent and outgoing. My mama often calls me Goose because she says that I’m friendly and always wanting to keep people smiling.” You giggled, placing your hand over your mouth to keep yourself from embarrassing yourself any further.
Elvis found you adorable, his cerulean hues staring into your cocoa eyes as he took in every word that you said. He couldn’t believe how lucky he was to be speaking to such an intelligent soul such as yourself. Although he didn't often read books, he appreciated how you found such importance in the captivating stories that you read. He wanted to sit in your presence, hearing more about the books that you would read. He wanted to be in your embrace even without talking about the stories.
He was enamored with you, wanting to be in your life as long as time allowed. He spent the rest of the afternoon learning things about you that made him like you even more. You were the only child; the child of a businessman and a nurse who were never at home until late at night, and you enjoyed everything that was made of strawberries and peaches. He found that the nickname ‘Peach’ fit you because you were fairly sweet. He adored you, often wondering how someone like you could ever be interested in a stuttering fool as himself.
Soon, the day had come to an end and Elvis needed to return home before his mother sent a search party to look for him. He didn’t want to leave your side, but it was far too dangerous for you to be out when it got dark. “Would you mind if I took ya home, peach?”
“That’s very nice of you, Elvis. I wouldn’t mind at all.”
That was all Elvis needed to hear before he helped you gather your things, leading you over to his car that sat in the front of the park. He opened your door, helping you inside before he placed your things in the backseat. On the ride over to your place, Elvis continued the conversation but this time, he allowed you to ask him questions about himself. He found himself telling you things that not even his parents knew about him, finding that being in your presence was effortless. You were so pleasant to talk to, he wanted nothing more than to continue.
As he made it to your house, he stopped in front of the driveway before clearing his throat. “I could pick ya up tomorrow for our date s-s-so ya won’t haveta walk. Does 4 o’clock work for you?”
“It does, I had a great time today. Thank you for keeping me company, Elvis. You’re such a delight, I’ll see you tomorrow.” You softly retorted, gathering your quilt and the tupperware that now was empty from Elvis eating most of your snacks.
You exited his car, waving goodbye as you made it inside of your house. The beating of your heart never ceased as you laid against the door. Elvis was surely different, so easy to talk to and so polite. You weren’t sure where he came from, but you were so conflicted about letting him in. Yes, he was sweet and very attentive to the words that you said but he was also white. You weren’t the type to think about skin color being a flaw, but it was because of the time that you were living in that you had to take that into consideration.
What would his parents think about their son courting someone of a different skin tone as him? You already knew that your parents didn’t care about a person’s race, only reminding you that it was what was on the inside that counted. Your parents would love Elvis, he was very sweet and he seemed to have a good head on his shoulders. You didn’t know if his parents would respect their son’s decisions to see a black woman, let alone a woman of her status. You were also concerned about what society would think if you were seen with Elvis, making the upcoming date much more alarming.
Only time could tell where this would lead, so you decided that you would give Elvis a try and would worry about the rest at a later time.

You can look at Nanoha's first reaction to Vivio being "we need to find this kid's real mom" / "but I'll look after her meanwhile" / "but we still need to find her ACTUAL mom"
compared to Fate's history with Caro and Erio of
"I'm not old enough to adopt them so my adopted mom will sign the paperwork until I can be their legal guardian" and Vvio "legally I'm just Nanoha's friend but I am also the 'fate-mama' to our newly adopted daughter" and then with former enemy Lutecia "so her mother is still out of commission and that means I'll be her guardian until things get better"
you could say, that's just Fate being kind softhearted Fate, and Nanoha being stubborn like usual, but the thing is, it tracks so well with both their experiences AS children WITH their families
Nanoha's childhood was lonely sure, but never because her birth family didn't love her or try their best to care for and support her. She values the way she was raised- repeats it with Vivio later on, giving her freedom and responsibility, focusing on teaching Vivio how to stand up on her own after getting hurt, letting her have the tools and chances to make dangerous mistakes and learn from them. Even (spoilers for Vivid) even when her kid has a completely messed up leg after fighting in a tournament for FUN, Nanoha says she's proud of her for that, for Vivio following through and putting in her all, and helping her new friends and competitors grow as people along the way
All of that Nanoha got from her parents and her family, the ones she was born into.
So when she first meets lost and abandoned Vivio, she thinks, where is this girl's family? It takes a while for Nanoha to sink into the idea of Vivio not being born into a family that cares or can care for her. It takes time for Nanoha to decide, actually, maybe SHE could be Vivio's family now. Maybe she already is
And Fate- it's easy to joke about her running around adopting every kid she sees- but a lot of people I know who WERE happily adopted later in life are like that too. It's not universal. Still for people who know what the difference can be and how GOOD it can be, some of them end up like Fate, they end up repeating what their own adopted family did (Lindy her mother, and Chrono her big brother, looking after Fate while she was still facing trial, asking her very gently if they could all be a family together) and when Fate sees other kids being abandoned or locked away she also repeats what her family taught her by immediately reaching out. She offers to be there for Erio and Caro and deals with figuring out HOW to do that afterwards, accepts making that her job to study up on and get advice about while already knowing that it can work. She's been living proof that a family that's made by choice can be wonderful- just as good or better than the one she lost before.
But she also knows how much a parent can hurt a child, even without whips involved. Fate is soft with her kids, worried about them and for them and how they feel about her, never wanting them to think for a moment that she doesn't care or would be okay with them being hurt, and it's a reaction to her birth mom Precia, sure- (her memories of how a kind mother could be be so cruel to a child she didn't love)-
it's also just as much a repeat of Lindy's gentleness with Fate, too. Lindy who signed that paperwork so her teenage daughter could split time between her new career and two different kids who needed her. Fate wanted to be there for children who had no one, and Lindy made it work.
So when Nanoha finally decides to try being Vivio's mom, even though she wasn't Vivio "real" mother- Fate is already settled into them all being a family. She's there and ready to make this work.
I just always really like the writing in that. How you start off with these nine year old magical girls, and when you check back in with them 10-15 years later, everything they lived through at age nine has shaped them into the people and parents they end up being together today.
It's very sweet. I love that for them, for all of them.

WAIT NOW U GOT ME CURIOUS- WHAT IS JULIETAS RELATIONSHIP LIKE WITH EVERYONE IN THE FAMILY IN SWITCHEROO AU
They are okay for the most part, it’s just her daughters.
Both Julieta and Agustín work a lot. Like, putting canon Luisa to shame.
Mirabel is very much the mother figure to Isabela and Luisa because Julieta was always working and not around much. To the point, baby Luisa called her “mama” until she was old enough to be corrected and understand that. (Isabela has probably called her that too but, as a teenager, she finds that embarrassing - so we won’t talk about it).
Agustín, however, realises and admits it was wrong. He cut down his working hours, much to the frustration of Alma, to be there for his girls after Luisa’s birth. Mirabel, in her late teens at the time, was a little beyond needing a parental figure like this. Isabela, young enough to appreciate it but old enough to also see its a little late, was a bit mixed on the idea.
Isabela, in particular, isn’t a fan of her mother. She and Mirabel are rather close in this AU. And if it’s hard not having a mother for her, how the fuck did Mirabel manage considering she didn’t have an older sister to rely on?
Mirabel’s relationship is better but still strained. She’s just as much of a workaholic as her mother is and probably has somewhat of an understanding. But Mirabel is very stubborn, especially when it comes to her family and their welfare. She doesn’t care or acknowledge how it hurt her, but she does care about the effects it will have on Isabela and potentially Luisa.
Luisa is too young to really think much of it.

I need a place to put these thoughts out of my head so I can stop thinking about them. A little list of why I love Anne Rice and the world she created, and her vampires.
The one thing that I loved the most was probably that the vampires had no sexual desire. Greatest pleasure for a vampire was drinking blood. It was pleasurable as well as private. I liked that they didn't even liked being watched as when they fed. Looking at you Pandora.
Gender is meaningless when you're a vampire. Procreation happens by turning others with bites, not with births. The differences of female and male body disappears completely. Males are as beautiful as females; females are as strong as males.
The way the red headed witch, one of the oldest vampires, her name escapes me at the moment, tracked her lineage. That awoke something in my teenage brain. She tracked her descendants with females only because that was the only way she could be sure they were hers. And it made me realize how stupid the patriarcal system was in real world. Oh, you want to be sure the heir is yours? Just have the line track from female to female. There will be no doubt that the child is theirs.
The way Louis and Lestat interacted. Their relationship is so interesting. Lestat is controlling, insecure and acts out but Louis betrays him the first chance he gets. Yet, still they can't separate from each other. Although turning that little girl was a bitch move, Lestat.
Lestat's mother. I love love that Lestat was such a mama's boy and she was the first person he turned. But in turn her mother didn't really want to baby him. She just took off and adjusted to the vampire life. So well, in fact, that she figured out vampires could sleep in the ground during day time. I just love how wild the description of her is and in comparison how calm she is.
So far I have this much. I might make a part 2 if more thoughts crawl up in my head.

Early the next morning, Laurie saddled up Artax, mounting him with a small smile as she looked around at the rest of the gang, thanks to Billy, Laurie was able to accompany them on this little trip. Once everyone was ready, they took off on their horses in a gallop.
Laurie didn’t keep track of how long it took for them to round up the chosen cattle that they were going to steal, cantered alongside Billy, making sure none of the cattle tried to escape through the side as Artax snorted, enjoying this little adventure. It was a beautiful day, the sun was up and shining bright, the sky was a bright blue and the rolling hills looked especially gorgeous today. Once the cattle were all rounded and had calmed down, the gang walked along the trail, Jesse and a few guys trotted ahead while Laurie trailed at the very back, helping make sure none of the cattle strayed behind. She pulled Artax to a stop when they got to the army base that the stolen cattle had been sold to, allowing Bob and John to herd the cows into the corral. Once the cows were inside the pen, the gang quickly left, a lot of the men were very rowdy and cheery about the successful round up.
ⅠⅠⅠⅠ
Later that night, when the sun had left the sky and the world was becoming dark, Jesse returned to camp in a wagon pulled by two black Friesans, tossing booze to the excited gang-members as women exited the wagon, greeting the men with smiles. The young teenager watched from her spot in a tree branch, drawing a picture of Artax.
Laurie wasn’t stupid, she knew what these women were – prostitutes. She never really knew how to feel about them, but all she knew was that when she saw them coming to the camp, she would be in for a very sleepless night listening to the guys have their fun with them. The girl rolled her eyes, however just before she was about to turn her attention back to her drawing, one of the women caught her eye. Laurie recognized hat voice and face and it felt like time froze.
It was Jennifer.
It was her Ma.
She immediately climbed down from the tree, pushing through the crowd of overexcited men to get to the woman. It had been almost 4 years since she had last seen her mama. And it was so surreal to finally see her again.
“Mama?,” the young teenager asked, following the crowd into the house. The older woman froze upon hearing the child’s voice and she turned around with a shocked look.
What are the odds of seeing the daughter you abandoned at the camp you were going to be having sex with pretty much every guy there?
“Lauren?,” Jennifer questioned, looking at the teenager up and down. “You’ve grown.” She did not sound as happy to see Laurie as Laurie was to see her. Laurie was stunned for a moment, trying to figure out why her Ma didn’t sound happy to see her.
“It’s been years,” Laurie said, the happiness in her voice faltering into sadness and disappointment, maybe a little bit of anger, even. “Where have you been all this time, Ma?”
“I’ve been around,” Jennifer replied awkwardly, her tone was somewhat dismissive as she tried to go into the house but Laurie grabbed her arm.
“That’s it? That’s all you’re going to say?,” Laure pleaded, her voice breaking. “Why did you leave me? Why? I just need to know why? Was I not enough for you?”
Jennifer didn’t answer, she went stiff, staring at her daughter. She had left because she felt like Laurie was nothing but a burden to her.
“I left because you were doing nothing but cause me unneeded stress,” the woman snapped, yanking her arm away from Laurie. “You’re nothing but a burden to me and everyone else in this camp, Lauren. I don’t know how you even survived this long, but I want nothing to do with you.”
Laurie was frozen to say the least. Tears spilled down her face, poor Laurie didn’t know whether to be angry or heartbroken. She simply left, crying as she climbed her tree again, she sat in the thickest branch, quietly sobbing as she hugged her knees to her chest and rested the back of her head against the trunk of the tree, cursing herself for thinking her reunion with her mama would have been this heartwarming thing filled with happiness and strong emotions.
She hated herself for thinking that that was how the world works.
Later that night, a few men were outside drinking and having a good time. Laurie hadn’t left the tree since interacting with her Ma. How could she have just left her alone like that? She was only 9 when she left. She wiped her face, turning her attention when she heard the sound of Billy snapping at Bob.
“Shut the fuck up, Olinger,” Billy snarled, fixing his hat as she stood up.
“You don’t tell me what to do, boy,” Bob shot back, taking a swig of his beer. “Now everyone thinks that you’re something special. You ain’t special. And neither is that runt you seem to have made friends with. I ain’t never seen anything special about you, and there ain’t nothing special about the runt either. She’s just another body to bury.
That last comment really pissed Billy off, especially because he knew how much those kinds of comments affected Laurie, she wasn’t just another body to bury. “All right, then let’s fight it out.” Billy drew his gun from the holster at his waist and Bob groaned, shaking his head.
“I ain’t fighting you with a gun,” Bob said simply, taking another sip of his drink. Billy glared at the man, undoing his gun belt and tossing it to the side. Laurie could tell he was drunk as a skunk right now, which was probably why he was acting more defensive and impulsive than usual.
“Then lets fight with our fucking fists like men,” Billy replied.
Bob smirked as he stood up, also tossing his gun belt to the side as he approached Billy. “I’ll beat your ass any day.”
Jesse and the few other guys that were still awake started cheering for Billy after Bob threw the first punch, decking Billy square in the nose. Laurie slid down from the tree and approached the fight, the tear stains on her face were all too visible but she didn’t care. Billy grabbed Bob, slamming him into a wooden pole a few times before throwing him over the table. Laurie knew better than to intervene in fights like this, so all she could do was watch as the men all cheered in Billy’s favor. The fight continued as they fell into the empty barn where the rest of the guys were going at it with the girls.
Billy had Bob pinned as he threw a few more punches into the man’s face, hitting him hard, making sure he felt the pain nice and clear.
“Get the fuck up, Olinger, get the fuck up. You wanna talk shit and bully a child behind her back?,” Billy hissed, hitting Bob one more time before Jesse went over, breaking up the fight as he held Billy’s arm into the air, smiling as he announced Billy the winner of the fight. Everyone cheered and clapped, all except for Laurie, of course she was happy someone had stood up for her, but when she caught sight of her Ma in bed with one of the guys, she just shook her head and left.
Billy noticed this ad pulled his arm away and followed the upset teenager outside. He watched as Laurie picked up a random bottle of whiskey, chugging the rest of the contents before throwing it at a tree, smashing it into tiny pieces as she yelled in frustration. The outlaw felt his heart break for the girl, he had never seen her upset like this before. He walked over to her, gently grabbing her shoulders in a firm grip and making her face him, his face was soft and full of worry.
“Laurie, kid, what’s got you so upset?,” he asked, wiping the fresh tears from the young girl’s face.
“Because it turns out my mama left because I'm nothing but a burden to her,” Laurie snapped, hiccuping as tears dripped down her face. “How could I have been so fucking stupid to think she would actually be happy to see me? I mean, who am I kidding? She chose to leave me, and yet I still fucking believed we would have a reunion and…”
Laurie was a mess, she was rambling by now, not making much sense but Billy got the gist of what she was saying and it broke him upon hearing that Laurie found out her Ma wanted nothing to do with her. The outlaw pulled her into a hug, rubbing her back as he tried to soothe the sobbing child in his arms.
God she really is just a kid, a scared and lonely child, he thought to himself as he allowed her to cry on his shoulder.
Laurie didn’t deserve this, and he knew that.
But did Laurie know that?
A/N:
I am a part of the Laurie's mother hate club

"Shit."
That's one way to put it.
You glance over your shoulder. "Puta."
That's another way to put it.
Cuss all you want, you deserve to— especially with two cars hurtling right behind you, as though with the intent to make you crash.
"Tangina!" you shout when one of the cars, the white SUV, speeds up to your left and prevents you from driving towards the Hotel Interpark.
You take a wild gander around the street, where there’s not a single soul in sight. Probably because of this fucking rain!
As though the thunderclouds heard your insult, the downpour becomes stronger; a little more and the thick raindrops will be like waves crashing down from above.
You drive faster now, maintaining your balance, and you turn right, weaving into a street that’s partially being remade. You switch to the lane that’s under construction and you’re thankful for your experience in riding motorcycles on tough roads.
There’s a nearby restaurant— with workers still inside!
You're about to honk to gain their attention but a bump from behind threatens your equilibrium. You swiftly steady the motorcycle and veer left into a street. You take a gander, despite the parked cars and opened lights in the building, no one is witnessing you fleeing for your life.
"Fucking hell!" you roar, harshly twisting the accelerator.
Just as you burst out of the street, you're about to turn left when headlights swallow you. Luckily, your instincts kick in and you haven't released the accelerator. If you had slowed down then, the black Honda Civic would've crashed into you. Instead, it hits your rear wheel; you attempt to balance once again, but the force this time is too much.
Lightning strikes the earth at the time your motorcycle pummels into the ground. You're thrown off into the curb, ignoring the pain flaring across your body, you shuffle up and head for your motorcycle. But you stop when you see your pursuers are already out of their cars. You hastily swivel away and hurtle into the trees.
You then realize your location: Waterfront Park. Even in the evening, this park is typically spotted with people; but the rain has metaphorically washed them away indoors. Just your luck. However, before despair can shackle you, you will yourself to fight and use your head. You know there's a lot of establishments nearby, but only a few of them are still open at this hour. You see it even from afar, the ray of light— The Reef Hotel & Residences.
You hightail towards the treeline. Just cross the park— that's your success to escape, because once you're out on the street, the guard at the hotel will surely notice you.
You're about to exit the treeline when someone tackles you back beneath the shadow of the woods. Everything spins, disorienting you for a second until a biting pain courses through your nerves. You let out a cry when you feel as though your elbow has split open. The guy who tackled you is trying to grab your arms. Thankfully the streetlights still manage to reach into the darkness of the park, you find yourself on the ground and spot the guy's knee, which you give your mightiest kick, and when he doubles over, you cut off his pained squeal with a kick to his face.
Upon rising up to your feet, another guy clutches at your arm. You spin to face him, jabbing his throat with your free hand. He releases you, and you run—
THWACK!
—into a fist. Pain explodes across your temple, where the hit forcibly landed, and you're reeled into blackness. There's a ringing in your ears, it's somewhat scolding you for not taking the rape whistle that Mindy gifted you. You ponder on where you put it and realize it's in your locker in the cafe's staffroom.
If you had it with you, you could've gotten some attention.
Your inner self smacks her lips— So, why didn't you press the motorcycle's horn instead?
As your stupidity dawns on you, your bearings slowly rebuild itself. You then find yourself restrained; mouth stuffed with a cloth and hands tied behind your back. And you're draped on some guy's shoulder. You thrash as you try to peer where they're taking you— to their cars parked at a spot where no one was around. Your strength doubles as panic and adrenaline surges through your nerves.
You try to scream, but it's muffled.
Despair begins to leisurely brim your eyes.
"Patulugin niyo muna nga siya! Masyadong maingay at malikot!"
(Knock her out! She's too noisy and squirming a lot!)
They roughly set you down with your back on the ground; the guy who was carrying you is now holding your ankles down. Another guy then crouches above your stomach and pulls out a switchblade; you freeze, shock slowly morphing into fear, and you try to relax as you ponder on how to get out.
"Tama 'yan, wag ka na magulo o masasaktan ka pa." the guy atop you says and, lightly tracing the side of the blade on your neck, he unzips your jacket.
(That's right, don't be naughty or you'll get hurt.)
He lifts the hem of your shirt with the blade and they all whistle at your bare skin.
You squeeze your eyes, tears flowing through.
"Nasa'n ngayon ang tapang mo?"
(Where's your courage now?)
They all share a laugh, the hyena kind, and thunder claps across the heavens. No one will hear them. But that isn't what scares you, what scares you more is the fact that—
No one will hear you.
You struggle, he taps the blade on your stomach, and you stop. He then raises your shirt over your bra and your eyes snap open. You begin talking through your gag, which the guy finds annoying, so he pulls it out of your mouth.
"M-May pera ako," you blurt out, breathing erratically.
(I have money,)
"Don't worry, we already have it." one guy holds your backpack up.
"But what we want more is you."
"Aren't you lucky?"
They all start yammering how giddy you must be feeling. Wanted by one too many guys. But they know very well it's quite the opposite.
Before you can plead, they gag you again. You're about to put up a fight when the guy slides the knife sideways beneath your bra. The blade's coolness decorates your flesh with bumps as fear wrings your throat shut. He flips the knife with the sharp edge cutting against the cloth; still, the blunt side pricks into your skin.
He slowly moves the knife, pushing upwards. "It's probably hard to breathe, right? Let us help you.."
You scream, cry, and wail simultaneously. Not just because your bra is about to be cut off, but also because the other guys are unbuttoning your shorts and pulling them down. One of them is also taking pictures, you hope someone will spot the flashes.
Another guy harshly grabs your face when you start getting louder than normally muffled. "Shut—!" he cut himself off as he looks at something behind his pals. "PUTANGINA!"
A sort of banging sound echoes around the woods. It's repetitive with a few cracks, grunts, and cries here and there. Your should-be-rapists shuffle up and run to the same direction, yelling as though they're charging into war. You quickly roll on your side and sit up to find someone fighting against five guys.
You now realize that your should-be-rapists were eight guys when you notice three of them are already on the floor. And despite the dimness shrouding the woods, you begin to recognize your cap-wearing savior.
"Kurt?" you breathe out, shocked and confused.
But he doesn't hear you with the gag. That is until the guy who straddled you is slowly approaching Court from behind. You spot the switchblade he's holding and scream with all your might.
"LOOK OUT!"
Despite your muffled voice, Court somewhat understands you. He whirls around in the blink of an eye, ramming an elbow on the guy's temple. The switchblade drops with its unconscious owner.
Immediately, someone else picks it up. You're about to shout at Court again when you realize the guy with the knife is charging at you.
You don't even have to ask why, because whatever his intentions are, as long as he's coming at you with a knife, it can't be good. Scrambling up to your feet, you curse when the shorts at your ankles nearly made you fall; your bounds aren't helping either.
In such a state of panic, and insufficient lighting, you miscalculate the thick root for soil. You trip, face-planting into the ground, but you don't let that stop you and try to get back up.
"Come here!" the guy chasing you clutches at your ankle and reels you to him.
You'll probably feel the scrapes later, because your fight response brawls against the intense fear flooding throughout your body. "Let go!" you scream, kicking at him successfully on his shoulder and stomach.
"Tangina, tumigil ka nga!" he yells and grabs both your ankles, pulling you closer.
You're about to boot his face this time, but he smacks yours first, stunning you. He rises, roughly hauling you up, but someone gets in between you two. The guy gasps when a fist heavily jabs into his chest and throat; he's instantly knocked out when the same fist strikes his temple.
Still in a daze, you think the world is falling away. Trees dancing into a swirl with streams of light. But in actuality, you're just falling down.
You're on the ground, you think as your perspective steadies itself.
Someone calls your name, you think it's the Kapre on the trees— maybe your perspective isn't right just yet.
You hear your name again and a face appears. You recognize him.
"Kurt?"
"Hey," he breathes out, relieved.
You fight back a wince when your chest tightens. "W-Why.." you stammer, "How are you here?"
"I'll tell you later. First," he pauses, scanning you from head to toe, "are you okay? Where does it hurt?"
Your head is buzzing. The last several minutes replays in it as a myriad of emotions washes over you. Terror, relief, panic, concern, happiness, gratefulness, anxiety, sadness, shame—
It's overwhelming.
And because of it, you're starting to think you're hallucinating. Maybe the one holding you isn't your friend.
"Kurt," you say, shakily.
"Yes?" he replies, steadily.
The strong arm wrapped around you and the rough yet gentle hand holding you conveys everything else.
It's him.
It's Court.
He's here.
He saved you.
You have an abundance of questions. However, you want to address first why your face is somewhat damped and stinging. You think you have a gash and you're heavily bleeding, that is until you taste salt. Warm, liquid salt.
Oh.. you're crying.
You try to stop, but that only makes you cry harder. Like all the emotions pouring out your eyes, your body melts against Court's. But unlike your cascading tears, you're held firmly by him.
"Hey, what is it?" he asks, worriedly calling your name. "Where does it hurt?"
You manage to stifle your sobs for a second. "I'm so-sorry."
He scowls. "You're not the one who should be apologizing."
"N-No.. I'm sorry fo-for.." you gasp in between sobs,"for crying."
Court is astonished.
You continue. "I-I-I'm so-sorry you had to sav-save me.."
His hold on you tightens. "I'll always save you, (Y/N).. no matter what."
"Y-You don't always have to," you say, "I don't want you hurt."
Court holds the side of your face, gently pushing it up so he's looking into your teary eyes. "And I don't want you hurt, too." he declares, "So I'll save you. I'll protect you. I'll take care of you… Whether you like that or not."
There's an ache in your heart, yet it's somehow comforting rather than agonizing.
"And I'll beat the shit out of anyone who makes you cry."
You hide your face on his shoulder, but it doesn't stop you from laughing and sniffling at the same time.
The two of you stay there until your tears slow down to a halt. Then you finally allow yourself to wrap your arms around him. Because you didn't think you deserve it, you always thought you're unworthy to be saved. But then you don't know what else to do to express your gratitude at the moment.
So, you hug him with all your feeble might. Simultaneously trying not to let your feelings overpower you.
"Th-Thank you.." you sigh, "Thank you."
He returns the embrace, and for a second, you think he's kissing you on the head. "You're welcome." he whispers into your hair, "And thank you, too."
"For what?"
He stays silent for a moment.
"For.. you."
".. You want to thank me for me?"
"Yes..?"
You snicker. "That's stupid."
He breathes out a laugh. "Sorry."
"No worries. You got an unlimited savior coupon for the rest of my life."
"Well, then.. thank you."
"You're welcome."

The Hawk and The Canary | Chapter 1: The Tipsy Bison
Tumblr media
Summary + Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3 | Chapter 4
Pairing: Joel Miller x Female Reader
Genre: Action, Adventure, Romance
Setting: The Last of Us Part II
Reader Information: You are from North Virginia and have a southern accent. You are in your late 30s. You have a scar on your left cheek from a recent fight where you were captured by raiders but made your escape.
Summary: You make a stop in the settlement in Jackson, Wyoming. You find yourself at the bar admiring how peaceful the community is. Your keen eye spots a handsome and gruff patron and his brother. Now it’s the fun game of who makes the first move...
Tumblr media
March 1st 2038
You were on your way to the Baldwin Mansion to meet a few...Acquaintances. But you were tired and needed to make a stop somewhere safe. Luckily enough, you came upon a settlement in Jackson, Wyoming. You were wearing an olive green v-neck button blouse with the sleeves rolled up to your elbows, a white tank top underneath, blue pants, black combat boots, and a brown cowboy hat. You wore a golden necklace with a canary-shaped pendant.
“State your business, ma’am.” One of the guards asked you while you sat on your horse.
“Just wantin’ somewhere safe to stay the night, then in the mornin’, I’ll be on my way.” You tipped your cowboy hat.
The guards asked you to dismount to check if you had bites. Once you were cleared, they let you in. “You can drop your horse off at the stables, you should head over to the Tipsy Bison for something to eat.” The guard advised and you thanked them.
You did ask they advised and made your way to the mentioned bar. “Cute name.” You said to yourself as you read the sign and entered the bar.
Tumblr media
You made your way to the bar counter.
“Well, well, a new face, pretty one too! What can I get ya?” The young bartender asked.
“Whiskey on the rocks.” You smirked.
The bartender made your drink and set it down, “Say, pretty lady, can I ask how you got that big scar on your cheek?”
“Ain’t your mama ever taught you not to ask a lady too many questions?” You smirked as you took a sip of your drink. You were about to divulge into the scar when you heard shouting. You turned around to see two men fighting each other and a woman holding back two teenage girls.
“Aw, god dammit Seth...” The bartender sighed.
“Nice to know that even in the apocalypse, bars will always be bars.” You smirked and finished your drink. You set your glass down and thanked the bartender. You took a step back when a man stumbled back toward you. You watched him hit his back against the bar counter.
“Seth stop it!” You saw the blonde woman shout.
“You better listen to her, partner, she sounds mad.” You smirked at the drunk and angry Seth.
But of course, he didn’t listen and stood up tall, he began to charge toward the other man who was standing in front of the blonde woman and the two teenage girls when you stuck your foot out and tripped him. Seth landed on his face and everyone rushed to him. “Oops~” You grinned and tipped your hat at the man who lowered his fists and gave you a silent nod.
“Much appreciated, ma’am, I think you put him to sleep.” Another man with blonde hair approached you while helping everyone get Seth up.
“I’ll send you my bill.” You smirked and made your way to the doors of the bar.
Tumblr media
“Who the hell was that, Tommy?” The man asked stepping away from the woman and the girls.
“She’s a visitor, Joel, a visitor that saved your ass.” Tommy watched two men take Seth away.
Joel didn’t answer, his eyes watching your figure leave the bar.
“Get off me!!” Joel’s thoughts snapped when he heard Ellie shout.
He turned to see her storm off. “Goddammit...” He sighed.
Tumblr media
He followed her out of the bar trying to talk to her but Ellie made it clear, she had no interest. Joel stopped and watched her get to her house. He sighed in exhaustion and shook his head.
“That’s quite the punch you had there.” He turned to his right to see you leaning against the porch frame with a cigarette in your hand.
“Thanks...And thanks for...” Joel began to say.
“De-escalating the situation?” You smirked.
“Yeah.”
“Maybe you can get me a drink sometime, Tex?” You winked.
“Maybe.”
You told him your name in between puffs of your cigarette. You watched as he nodded his head and then told you his name. “Joel...Yeah, you look like a Joel.” You teased.
“Whatever that’s supposed to mean.” He gruffed.
“Have a good night Joel.” You put out your cigarette and headed into the guest house.
Joel watched you leave then made his way to Ellie.
Tumblr media
You sat down on the bed and took off your cowboy hat. “Well, Abby...You have no idea how close you are.” You murmured looking at the handwritten note that says ‘Target: Joel Miller’.

『game plan - jmk』
Tumblr media
jmk x f!reader
I added a lot more than I think was intended, but it fit together so well in my mind and I love the result.
THIS PIECE WILL BE REGARDED AS 18+, MINORS DNI
» requested
warnings: slight mention of sexual content, breeding kink, mentions of pregnancy, more angst than originally intended, and fluff so sweet you’ll have cavities tomorrow
You let out one last long moan as Josh finished inside you. The recording studio had been particularly tense, the twins getting into it time after time. It seemed that whenever they finished an argument, one could simply breathe, and another row would ensue. Of course, you hadn’t been there, that was simply what Sam had said when he called to warn you that Josh might be especially agitated when he got home.
With that in mind, you had immediately gone to work, prepping the house for your boyfriend’s return. You lit candles and incense, dimmed the lights, and made him a Salty Dog. Figuring he would simply want to relax, you also dropped the needle on a jazz album he had in his collection. But Josh Kiszka did not want to relax. Quite the opposite, actually. After seeing all the work you had put in, he downed his drink and carried you up to the bedroom, where the next two hours were spent in anything but a relaxing state.
A lazy smile was directed at the curly haired man, his teeth shining brightly as he walked to get a warm washcloth. You reached for your phone to check the time, only to see a notification from three hours ago.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck!” Josh rushed out at your proclamation, now in boxers.
“What is it, mama?”
“I forgot to take my fucking pill!”
He looked confused for a second only to remember that little case of tiny white pills you kept with you. The ones that allowed him to indulge in his secret little kink of cumming inside you, your birth control.
“Oh. Fuck.” You looked up, nodding as you shared his concern.
After a moment of deep silence, he asked, “Can you still, y’know, take it?”
“Yeah, I will, but we should probably get a Plan B, just in case,” to break the tension, you joked, “No little Kiszkas yet.”
He didn’t miss the last word, and it didn’t escape you that you had said it. The silence became different then. Neither of you wanted to address it, but you both had to. It was a promise of a future, you wanted assurance that he shared that promise, that it wasn’t one-sided. He wanted a similar promise, one of understanding, the music, the fans, his brothers.
“I’ll go get it.” You attempted to get up, but the overwhelming soreness between your legs prevented that, and instead, your knees wobbled and you fell back to the bed.
“You stay here, mama, rest, and I’ll go get it.” If he was being honest, he had no idea what he was looking for. Nobody had ever indulged him like you had. But that one little word was nearly choking him and he needed to clear his head.
The Walgreens down the street was nearly void of cars. It was freezing inside and a light flickering near the door would probably drive him insane if he thought about it long enough.
“Where would they be?” Josh muttered to himself, wiping his palms on his khaki shorts. He checked the medicine aisles first, and let out a frustrated sigh when that search turned up empty. He decided to simply check every aisle at that point.
A pair of teenage girls were in the makeup aisle, giggling and searching for something specific. He could tell they were sisters and he remembered his and Jake’s late night trips like that, and when Sam began to beg to join them. He moved to the craft aisle, where a mother stood with her son, a smaller baby in a stroller in front of her.
“What do you need for your project, Joshua? I don’t see why you didn’t tell me about this days ago.” She wasn’t frustrated, simply tired from the time of night and what had probably been a long day.
“I’m sorry mommy.” She pulled him closer, urging him to grab what he needed so they could get home.
He thought it fitting that the boy’s name was Joshua, he too always waited until the last minute to tell his parents about projects due the next day. Josh hoped it wasn’t genetic. The scene brought him back to you. Yet. Josh hadn’t really ever had time to seriously think about kids. He knew he wanted them, eventually. But when was eventually? The last two years with you had been an unexpected whirlwind, and he never wanted that to settle. But what was life if not moving to the next milestone?
Speaking of, he really needed to find better hiding spots. You had almost spotted that black velvet box under the bathroom sink, and he was waiting for the perfect moment. Now he was wandering aimlessly around the store when it hit him. Wherever there are pregnancy tests, there should be Plan B. He eventually found it and, when he had everything he needed, he checked out, ignoring whatever judgment seemed to be coming from the older cashier.
When he pulled into the driveway, he took a deep breath. The music coming from the bathroom alerted him of your presence there. Your eyes were closed, bubbles covering most of your body.
“Mama?” he whispered, not wanting to disturb you.
“Huh? Oh, hey Joshy. Made my way in here a few minutes ago, thought it would help with the soreness.”
“Has it?”
“A bit so far. Did you find it?”
He nodded, pulling the box out of the bag. After opening it, he handed it to you, along with a bottle of chocolate milk.
You laughed at him, confused at the drink choice.
“Do you remember when we met?” He grabbed your hand, gently playing with your fingers. “You walked into that coffee shop and ordered an iced hot chocolate, and she told you that was just chocolate milk, so you got that.”
“That…wasn’t when we first met?”
“Well, you didn’t notice me, but I noticed you. Couldn’t get you out of my mind, and a few hours later we just happened to be in the same record shop.”
“I was looking for Dolly Parton’s greatest hits,” you laughed at the memory.
“Mhm. I’d made the decision hours before in that coffee shop that if I ever saw you again, it was fate, written in the stars. It was, us, we were always meant to be. Out of the seven billion people, you chose me.” His eyes were softer than you’d ever seen them.
“I just wanted to fuck a rockstar, you just wouldn’t leave.” You both laughed. Truth was, when you saw him in that record shop, before he had even noticed you, you knew he would hold a place in your heart.
“We’re like two stars, bound to meet and form the most beautiful constellation. Earlier, when you said that thing about kids, it honestly scared me. I don’t know why, it just did. But after I thought about it, I wouldn’t want it with anyone else. I don’t want life with anyone else.”
He turned around, pulling out your favorite candy. Josh moved to the sink and asked you to close your eyes.
When he allowed you to open them, a box with a ring was in front of you. You gasped.
“I’ve had it for, like, a month. No moment ever seemed perfect enough, but every second I’m with you is perfect. Will you spend forever with me?”
Your hand grasped the back of his neck, pulling him in for a kiss.
“Of course I will, rockstar.”

Spring 2023 Anime Overview: Oshi no Ko
Tumblr media
Spoiler free premise: A doctor in a small town is a fan of a sixteen-year-old idol Ai Hoshino. But then Ai shows up with a secret pregnancy. Now he’s going to have to figure out how to deal with her secret and safeguard her from obsessive fans as he helps her give birth…
Spoiler for the entire first super long episode twist premise under the cut:
…that is, until the doctor is murdered by Ai’s stalker and reincarnates as Aqua, one of the twin children Ai gives birth to. The other twin, Ruby, is also a reincarnated soul. She was a former patient of the doctor’s, a twelve-year-old who was a huge fan of Ai before dying of terminal illness. Both twins are unaware of the other’s former identity, but they both enjoy their new lease on life and come to love Ai all the more.
All seems well (I mean well for the twins, that is, not for the viewer who has to grapple with all this bizarre and creepy premise) until the same stalker that murdered the doctor murders Ai herself. Aqua realizes his father/Ai’s secret lover must have leaked Ai’s location to the stalker on purpose. The problem is that Ai never told Aqua and Ruby who their father was. So Aqua vows to track down his father and kill the man for what he did to Ai, whatever the cost. After growing into a teenager, he gets more involved in the entertainment industry and begins his search for his mother’s true killer in earnest.
Tumblr media
Yeah, that’s a lot isn’t it? And it probably doesn’t help when I tell you that before he becomes Aqua, the doctor basically admits he, an adult man, wouldn’t turn down a date from the sixteen year old Ai, prompting the nurse to call him a lolicon (because anime will always insist on using that phrase where they should say ‘pedophile/ephebophile'). Or that baby Aqua refuses to breastfeed with Ai, but his twelve-year-old-girl-in-a-past-life twin happily does so with a huge, lascivious grin. (There’s also a discussion where Aqua says ‘he’ll let it slide’ when he learns Ruby was a girl in her past life too, she’s like ‘wow so great I was born a girl so I can enjoy mama's/Ai's breasts” and he’s like “no it’s not okay actually” and you just have to sit back and realize this is a conversation you’re watching on TV. This is where your life has bought you. )
Why did you keep watching, you ask me when I say these things? Well, it was well-made and engrossing. The animation was great, the pace was snappy, and Ai was instantly endearing. Plus everyone was talking about it endlessly on a discord I belong to, and they said after the first episodes the weirdness of the reincarnation angle becomes less important, the horny baby antics go away, and it becomes more of a straightforward murder mystery and a intriguing exploration of the entertainment industry.
And that’s pretty much true. The show goes out of the way to handwave Aqua’s past life by saying going through puberty and infantile amnesia means he now doesn’t know where he starts and the other dude begins anymore, and he essentially feels like a teenager.
Where Oshi no Ko is truly compelling is it’s exploration of the predatory entertainment industry and the twisted misogyny and parasociality of idol fandom.
Tumblr media
It makes some basic, but very needed, points. It points out that fans who freak out over 'their' idols having a relationship and blame them for it are gross, and the industry that puts them in a box is gross. This is very basic stuff, but still underdiscussed in anime. A lot of anime pretend all is well for an idol since the anime industry itself makes bank off idols. So it was satisfying to see to see a character scream ‘You all fall in love with idols, it's selfish to say idols can't fall in love! You take out all your anger on women because you don't have a girlfriend!" at the endless twitter comments saying it was "expected" that Ai was killed for ‘betraying’ her fans. It's also clear the author did a lot of research on the entertainment industry and has a lot to share. A lot of what he has to share is really interesting, and I appreciate that in his interviews he wanted to make sure Americans understand that Japanese actors and idols don’t have unions and it leaves them open to even more exploitation.
(Even the bizarre premise of the anime is nod to a gross “joke” idol fans make- a lot of 2channers apparently joke about wanting to “be reborn” as their favorite idol’s child whenever there’s a marriage announcement. However, it feels like the premise is rooted a lot in shock value...)
At the same time, Oshi no Ko doesn’t really go as hard as people act like it does. It’s not Perfect Blue, and it pulls its punches. It still goes for easy answers sometimes, and what’s worse, easy answers that lionize its obnoxious protagonist. Never is this more apparent that the cyberbullying arc.
Tumblr media
First, let’s be clear- the cyberbullying arc focuses on a reality show actor, a girl named Akane, being driven to attempt suicide after a bunch of internet detractors harass her over something she did on the show (that the producers pressured her into doing in the first place). However, Aqua saves her at the last minute.
Hana Kimura lost her life in a very similar incident just a few months before this arc in the manga was published and the author’s spoken about it on record. Hana was a pro-wrestler who was on the reality show Terrace House, and what happened to her is the same thing in broad strokes, only she didn’t get a convenient rescue. But nobody bothered to contact Hana’s family about any of this, so Hana’s mother was blindsided when she heard about it, and claims some of the hate messages in the anime are identical to the ones Hana received in real life. She pleaded that "Because it raises important issues, I would like to support a work like Oshi no Ko.  However, I don't think it needs to be done in a way that makes people  who have actually been victimized on social media suffer when they see it.”.
Oshi no Ko fans, having just watched an arc about the serious consequences of internet harassment, were of course respectful to the grieving mother of a harassment victim- nah, they harassed Hana’s mom for criticizing the show. Another example of the incredible media literacy of anime fans.
All of that was already not a great look for the manga and show, and I think the kind thing to do would have been to contact the family before telling this story. But even if that wasn’t a thing, I didn’t like how this arc was handled. After Akane is saved by Aqua, he leaks her attempted suicide to the press. Though there’s a mention that this unethical, he’s never really taken to task or confronted with the fact this violation of her privacy could have led to another (potentially successful!) suicide attempt. Then he talks to the director, reminds him that Akane is a teenager and adults should protect children, the director has a change of heart. Aqua's given permission to release footage of the cast being friends, the harassment dies down and Akane immediately gets better offscreen, because that’s how trauma and depression works!
Tumblr media
God, ‘depression is NBD! You recover quickly!’ is one of my biggest fiction pet peeves. Considering how despicable the producers were to Hana IRL, the whole storyline wrapping up like this wasn't just sloppy and lazy, it was insulting.
Rather than explore with the actual messy fallout this would realistically have for Akane, it just had Aqua get to be the edgy savior who was In the Right even though his actions were horrible and could have had catastrophic consequences. Also the ‘adults should protect kids’ moral felt weak when Hana and many other entertainers who hurt themselves after being mistreated by fans and the industry were adults. Did they not deserve to be protected?
And I guess it sums up a lot of my problems with the show. It's painstakingly researched and talks about interesting stuff (though sometimes one character has to become an exposition machine just so we don't miss ANY of the author's research, which can feel awkward). It has some interesting and complex main female characters … but 3/4s of them have some romantic connection to Aqua, which grates. It’s more honest about the idol industry than most anime, but also sometimes pulls its punches when it comes to exploring actual mental illness and industry abuse.
Tumblr media
'Aqua is the smartest and all the girls are sooo into him’ gets pretty annoying. Two girls are already in love with him, and even without the really unnecessary ‘was a pedophile in a past life’ baggage, he barely has a personality. Aaaand there’s how we have to listen to him muse about whether he was in love with his mom. Aaaand there's the looming threat that the next girl to fall in love with him will be his sister, since she muses she was in love with the doctor in her past life.
Once sis mentioned that, I started wondering if I should even come back to season 2. Leaning towards ‘no’ right now (definitely not if the manga really does…that). I don’t regret watching ONK- it was interesting, well animated and produced, and the theme song is a certified bop- but it’s also not something I could ever recommend to anyone. It’s the most fraught show I’ve watched in a long time, and in the end, I’m not sure all of its weird parts add up to a satisfying, truly subversive story.  It’s a mess, but time will tell if it’s an intriguing enough mess for me to come back to.

So I’m. The bees, how the new queen stings all the other potential queens to death. “I can see why you like them.” Lottie doesn’t, and hasn’t so far, been as ruthless as we thought she might turn out. I think there’s every possibility that as winter goes on they’re all gonna get a little more ruthless but. That’s not really Lottie’s vibe. Above all else she’s a caretaker, and we see that in the modern day(because NONE of them have moved on or changed even slightly they’re all totally stunted) and in 96, she wants to protect Nat and Travis when they hung, she wants to protect Shauna and her baby. She is a leader bc the wilderness chose her but also because she’s the caretaker, the real caretaker, not like Misty’s fucked up version, or tai and Shauna as mothers, she’s a natural caretaker.
But that caretaking is built on the wilderness being in her. And in the wilderness, caretaking is ugly. What she said about the bees, fighting for dominance, protecting your young, even cannibalizing the weak. Many animals are known to do that fairly often, but even ones that aren’t particularly known for it- you think a starving mama bear won’t eat its dead young so the living ones can survive?
They’re setting Lottie up as being a leader in a very maternal capacity(see eat your young by hozier) but that can turn violent fast. And I think Lottie knows, or is figuring out, who lasts, or at least knows who won’t. Like she knows Javi is alive but she doesn’t seem terribly worried, maybe because she knows they don’t find him, or they do and he dies. She’s become protective of Shauna and the baby now, and ensures Nat and Travis survive when they go hunting. She’s protecting her young, that’s how she sees them. But on some level, the non wilderness level, she knows they aren’t her young, they’re her equals, potentially better and stronger than her. And that comes back to the wilderness part of her. I think that it is going to get to a point where she will not be challenged, and is going to need to get Nat and Tai under her influence, because they’re not surviving breaking off into factions.
I don’t think Lottie is going to kill anyone for challenging her, I don’t think that’s the implication, because then Nat and Tai wouldn’t have survived, they’re her greatest competitors. Ben, maybe, but I think he’s gonna sacrifice himself. Nat and Tai pose the most threat, I’m not sure if Nat will take up a heavy leader stance because that isn’t her vibe, but Tai will, and is. And if Tai goes down, Nat’s alone on the outside and I think she’d see it as safest to go with the crowd. And funnily enough, the way a feud works in the wild is the same way it works for teenage girls: show of power. She’s not going to sting them to death but she is going to sting them. Tai definitely, Nat maybe. Because she’s the queen and she needs to govern the hive.

the kids playing a video game and needing Max to help them??
good thing my current obsession is bg3
-
"No, look over there!"
"It's not there, we've already looked!"
"Well, look again!"
"You go look!"
Evie half-heartedly kicks in Flynn's direction, but he pulls his thigh away just in time, holding the playstation controller up and out of her reach.
"Open the map," Jakob suggests, pointing to Evie's side of the split screen.
"I've already tried that," she grumbles, but does it again. "Let's just leave her."
"No!" Flynn protests, "We can't just leave her in this pod things, that's so mean!"
"Well, what else are we gonna do? We're too stupid to find some god damn keys!"
They look at each other for a long moment, a silent agreement passing between them.
Jakob stands up from the bed with a serious expression. "I'll go get Mom."
"What is it?" Max asks, still wiping his hands on his shirt as he enters Evie's room. Man, it smells like teenager in here; he opens a window before doing anything else.
The triplets all look at him with similar "Mama please" eyes which still work even at sixteen. "Can you help us with our game?"
Max can't help but laugh. "Sure. What's the problem." They scramble apart to make space for him in Evie's nest as he sits down. Flynn hands him his controller instantly.
"So, we've got to free this girl in the pod from a bunch of mindflayers, they put a worm in our heads and probably in hers too. And we need a key or something to open the pod that she's in, and we can't find it!"
"I wanted to leave her, but Flynn wants to free her so he can romance her!" Evie taunts her brother. Max intercepts when he reaches over to pull her hair.
"We've already tried looking everywhere, but can't find the keys," Jakob says.
Max takes a second to familiarize himself with the controls; it's still intuitive.
"Ok, let's go," he says, sending the character running. Flynn's character looks very human, with brown curls like his. Evie's character, meanwhile, is an enormous, muscular creature with horns and pink hair. Figures.
The kids talk him through what they've already tried; it takes Max only about three minutes to find the key they missed before, prompting groans from all three of them.
"How did you do this?!"
Max just gives a shrug and a smirk. "Magic. ...and tons of practice when I was your age."
Evie huffs, but then leans into Max for a second. "Thanks."
"Thank you, Mama," Flynn and Jakob echo in unison.
"You're welcome," Max replies, and continues on with the rest of his afternoon feeling quite smug, actually.
