okay but like Neil’s face is pretty messed up after Baltimore, and especially during those few weeks afterwards it had to have hurt to like, make facial expressions????? thoughts??
tbh this is such an interesting idea! like i think the book vaguely mentions it hurting a little bit when he and andrew kiss but like... here’s some thoughts
somehow neil’s life is filled with people protecting him, and it hurts
hurts to know that he thought he was going to leave these people who love him
hurts to know that they would spread silly rumors to protect him from questions
hurts to know that he loves the life his mother would have loathed for him
but mostly it hurts to smile
which he’s been doing a lot of lately
(andrew being a catalyst at least half the time)
neil’s face is stiff and taught and to others he has the stare of a serial killer (thanks to nathan’s genetics)
and when dan and matt jump in or andrew gives him the look or kevin makes a particularly good goal at night practice neil can’t help but smile
a concept he once held at arms length, even before running with his mother, has become to common place
but the ache in his face anytime his mouth curves upwards is worth it
it reminds him he is alive
it reminds him he is safe
it reminds him he is loved
the pain of being known is worth it

A “Red String of Fate” Soulmate AU for @andrewjsten for the @tfcfemslashnet exchange!
Dan’s red string shows up her freshman year of high school and she steadfastly ignores it
Dan Wilds does not have time for soulmates thank you very much she has exy practice and needs to make money appear from no where if she’d like to eat tonight
Allison was born with her string
It was a highly publicized thing, like everything else in Allison’s life would be
Allison could never date without speculation, without ruthless teasing, so she simply stops giving a shit about her soulmate
Honestly fuck them if they’ve given her this much trouble before even meeting yet
Renee’s string shows up when she’s nine years old and she rolls it up and tucks it into her pocket
She thinks of the string like her own little secret and plans to keep it to herself for as long as she can
Sometimes the girls at the club comment about Dan’s string, either about how lucky she is to know she’s got someone out there or with sympathy because Dan can’t always hide it during her acts and nothing could be worse than having grabbing hands reaching for her soul connection
Allison keeps her string coiled around her upper arm
She doesn’t care who sees it, but the next person who tries to touch it is gonna get a broken arm and they do
Renee still keeps her string in her pocket and tries not to think about it on most days
Renee hates the color red, these days
When they get to Palmetto Renee has her string hidden, Allison’s is on display like a dare, and Dan is out of shit’s to give
None of them are actively looking for their soulmates, but as soon as all three of them walk into the locker room together for the first time Allison’s string tugs itself gently off her arm and reaches towards the other girls
Renee’s has sprung from her pocket like it’s finally alive and Dan’s is actively fighting from where the other girl had it wrapped around her neck like a necklace.
“Interesting,” Allison says, as their strings connect
All three of them can feel the connection, can feel the electricity running through their bodies, can feel this love
“I don’t have time for this,” Dan growls, glaring at the strings like they’ve personally wronged her
Renee doesn’t say anything at all
Dan tries to turn away and get changed for practice but Renee reaches out to her
“We’ll talk about this later, yeah?”
“Like shit we won’t,” Allison declares and for now they drop it
After practice they go back to their dorm room and all sit down on the floor facing each other
“So, soulmates huh?” Allison says with a wiggle of her eyebrows
“It’s a difficult concept to believe in,” Renee admits, “but I’d like to give this a try if you guys do.”
“I’m stuck with you two for five years, guess we better figure our shit out,” Dan says
Dan is not wholly optimistic about this endeavor
She doesn’t like these girls, she doesn’t need these girls, and these soulmates of hers can go to hell
Where were they when she needed them?
Allison is even less optimist, if possible, but she’s always been a romantic, if a slightly cynical one
Renee is the most at peace with this, however it turns out, because she has herself and she has Stephanie, and she has God, but she’d love to have her soulmates too
Renee and Allison get their shit figured out first
Even if all three of them put up a united from for the team, it’s still cold behind closed doors but Allison and Renee get along better
Somewhere between Allison helping Renee dye her hair and Renee showing Allison how to pick locks they fall into friendship and quickly into something more
They tell Dan and she just shrugs, “You’re soulmates, it’s fine. Just don’t fuck until all hours of the morning we have practice.”
She doesn’t join their relationship and Renee doesn’t pressure her, even if Allison wants to
Dan pretends she’s not jealous, she doesn’t have time for this, she has a class one exy team to captain and she can’t be distracted
When Christmas break hits Renee talks Allison home to Stephanie and Dan stays at Palmetto
She stays in the dorms and she works out at the court and she spends time with Wymack and Abby
Abby’s the one who asks her about her soulmate, because Dan’s string is in her medical file
And Dan, despite everything inside of her telling her not to, tells Abby everything
When Renee and Allison get back from break it’s to find Dan standing nervously in their dorm room
“Soulmates,” she says. “They can be platonic. Or romantic. Or something else. Obviously you guys are something and I don’t want to fuck with that. And I don’t want to fuck with my game. I need this scholarship. But, I guess, if you’re okay with it I wanna give this a shot. Soulmates.”
Allison grins like she’s something predatory and Dan almost regrets saying anything at all before suddenly she’s being wrapped up in a hug by the tall blonde followed by a gentled hug from Renee and suddenly they’re all dogpiled on a very small dorm bed
The rest, as they say, is history

“Your boyfriend isn’t here,” Nicky says, almost facetious. Neil assumes he’s referring to the fact that Neil is rarely in their room until the late evening; after classes he and Andrew tend to spend the most time alone. But that’s not the issue Neil takes with Nicky’s statement.
“He’s not my boyfriend,” he says, and walks to his desk to start assembling his books.
“Oh man, I’m sick of this,” Nicky says, dramatically rolling his eyes. “I’ve heard Andrew say he hates you, or say you’re ‘nothing’ or whatever, and we all know it’s bullshit.”
Neil almost smiles. “It’s not a lie.”
“Okay, sure, whatever. What would you call it, then? Partners in crime?”
Neil shrugs. He’s never had to find a word or phrase for what Andrew is to him. It doesn’t matter.
“Oh, come on, even you have to admit that’s ridiculous. He’s your boyfriend. It’s simple.”
“He’s not my anything,” Neil replies. Andrew doesn’t belong to him.
“Tell me,” Nicky pushes. “If he’s not your boyfriend, what is he?”
Nicky is going to continue pushing it, Neil knows. The best way to get him to stop is to give him an answer, though Neil also knows that giving an answer Nicky doesn’t like is just as likely to keep the conversation going. So Neil thinks.
There’s no title Neil can give Andrew that would be right. Boyfriend is juvenile, partner is almost too serious, significant other is a mouthful and altogether too formal; and all come with the issue that it would make Andrew into some type of belonging.
And besides, how could all Andrew is be confined to a single word? He’s home, he’s safety, he’s stability. He’s everything Neil never knew he needed and the comfort Neil never thought he’d get to feel. He’s warmth and fire and sparks. There is no word for the multitudes that make Andrew: the intelligence, the strength, the humour; his jagged edges and sharp eyes.
Well, there is one word. “He’s Andrew,” Neil says simply, because that is, and always will be, enough.

"did they hurt you?" Andreil
Andrew’s eyes were frantic as they search through the crowd. He shoved people aside right left and centre, looking for a single glimpse of that auburn hair, or blue eyes. They’re nowhere to be found.
The crowd pushes against him, towards the doors of the court. They’re ecstatic, high on the rush of the Trojan’s win. They’re unaware of the strife of Andrew, his searching gaze through the crowd, the clench of his fist around his knife. It had been easy enough to slide it from his armband without being noticed, and the crowd paid him no attention.
Neil had disappeared at the end of the game, with Ichirou Moriyama on his tail. The crowd had blocked Neil from his view, and Andrew had lost him in seconds. The other Foxes were fanned out around the court, each searching for their missing striker but with no luck.
The crowd thins, and yet neither Neil nor Ichirou and his followers can be seen.
Kevin appeared at Andrew’s side, and the tip of Andrew’s knife is pressed to the underside of Kevin’s chin in a second. “Where is he? What did he tell you?”
Kevin blanched. “Nothing.”
“You’d better not be lying to me, or you’ll regret it.” Andrew shoved his hand against Kevin’s chest and pushed past him. “Which way did he go?” He asked Matt. “You were the last one with him. Where. Did. He. Go.”
“I don’t know. I turned away for one second and he was gone.” The worry in Matt’s face led Andrew to believe that was true, but he resented him for letting Neil get away. He hadn’t left a trace, in a typical Neil way. Andrew rolled his eyes. If he ever found Neil, he was going to kill him.
The crowd was gone, leaving nothing but waste in their path. They were nothing but a problem anyway. Only the Foxes and the Trojans remained in the large court, and Neil was nowhere.
Until. Until.
Suddenly Neil is standing at the door to the changing rooms and his eyes locked with Andrew’s. It takes only a few strides until Andrew can reach out to take Neil’s chin, turning his face left and right to examine it thoroughly.
“Did they touch you?”
“I’m fine.”
“Neil. Did they hurt you?”
“No. He wanted assurance that we wouldn’t lose next time. He wants his money. He wants me to make Court.”
Andrew’s face tightened at the mention of Court, but only Neil could see that.
“You don’t leave like that. Not ever again.”
“Okay.”
Andrew curled his hand in Neil’s shirt and tugged him closer, so that their foreheads pressed together. Neil was safe. He was okay. He was fine. Andrew slid his knife back into his armband and pushed Neil away. “Go change. You stink of sweat.”

Headcanon’s about sleepy & soft andreil mornings like 10 years into the future after psu when they’re comfortable and used to sleeping next to each other and exhausted by exy, inspired by my own sleepy self in need of affection™
sleepy kisses, unfocused eyes, cold nose bumps, socked feet, warm breath, trailing fingers.
andrew licking his dry lips as he cracks his eyes open to look at neil.
neil burrowing his face into the juncture between andrew’s neck and shoulder.
wet warm kisses on top of the covers before the start of the day.
neil moving his head closer to share andrew’s pillow when they’re both awake.
neil gazing at andrew.
neil’s sappy like that and andrew doesn’t hates it. “you’re staring josten.” “you like it.”
faces and lips inches apart.
soft™ kisses & content hums (lookin @ u neil)
warm cats jumping onto the bed, cuddling up to neil and andrew.
neil stroking king fluffkins back fondly.
andrew scratching behind sir fat cat’s ear abentmindedly.
neil sloppily kissing andrew’s neck “your neck fetish is still unattractive.”
neil’s lips quirk up remembering those words from a distant conversation years ago, when things between them were still new and hesitant, unsettled.
and sometimes, from time to time when neil wakes up, he still thinks of his mother and sometimes his father and the 22 names of a runaway and the 8 years lost in fear.
but then he looks next to him and there’s andrew.
tiredly blinking up at neil while he gets ready for his morning run, some days when the suns just coming out, staring sleepily with something in his eyes and there’s no place he’d rather be.

So Neil being the best man at Dan and Matt’s wedding.
And let’s be honest he said no the first time Matt asked. But Matt’s persistent so he kept asking.
So Neil says yes and it gets to day of.
Andrew is still saying no. He doesn’t want to go.
Then Neil puts his suit on and tucks his speech away in his pocket.
Andrew suddenly changes his mind because Neil in a suit ladies and gentleman.
But then Neil gets to see Andrew in a suit and he’s pretty sure its his fave thing ever.
Andrew tugs on Neil’s tie to pull him over. Promptly ruins the tie.
Neil frets a little but Andrew just redoes it quickly because then he can do what he had been planning.
Let’s say they are little late for the wedding.
Andrew manages to not look completely bored the whole ceremony.
Mainly because Neil is still looking fineeeeeee.
Get to the reception and Matt and Dan have their first dance and slowly everyone joins.
Neil and Andrew are sat squarely at the side chatting quietly.
Nicky tells them off at least twice for not dancing.
Another slow song comes on and Neil accidentally looks a little wistful.
Andrew catches it immediately and rises. Neil gawks at the hand he offers.
Andrew says something like ‘Maybe then you’ll stop talking about Exy.’
Neil blushes but takes his hand.
They dance and it’s adorable. Everyone is watching.
Dan accuses them of upstaging her at her own wedding.
Andrew shushes her at her own wedding.
Matt’s just laughing in the background before going back to dancing with Dan.
Allison is over there with Nicky and Renee making bets on if Neil and Andrew will kiss in public.
Allison rakes in the cash let’s say because neither Neil or Andrew seem able to resist the suit.

after starting a conversation with sur @transandrew i present neil+nicky and kpop
•this boy doesn’t know jack shit about music •let’s be honest his mom never gave him the chance to really explore and enjoy music •nicky knows this….nicky wants neil to appreciate the good music •now that riko is gone and everything is as good as it can get for the foxes…he can take action •so he’s like… “hey neil i have a good song that you will LOVE”         - “what song??”         - “just listen, neil, and ENJOY”
•it’s totally call me baby by EXO •we’re assuming this is 2016!tfc alright •so nicky has totally shoved his laptop at neil so he can really appreciate the whole experience that comes with kpop        -“nicky this is actually really good show me more” •so he DOES…and nicky knows no bounds so hes showing neil 4minutes, BTS, GOT7, BIGBANG, f(x), SHINee, OH MY GIRL, iKON, EXID, girls generation, the whole lot •and let me tell u neil loves BTS the most i stand by that forever •neil is taken by the dance from dope        - “nicky i want to learn that dance….i really want to learn that dance”        - “seriously? okay, we’ll learn the dance maybe then the vixens will love us” so they spend days learning this dance        - other dances he def learns are fire and call me baby and hate and ring ding dong and rum pum pum pum •so anyway •at some point nicky would put one of the songs on when they’re at the court and they think they’re alone •like they totally go to the court early to ‘warm up’ (read: practice dances) •they wouldn’t notice right away that one of the other Foxes (probably a freshman) has shown up early too •so this freshman Fox would totally video nicky and neil dancing to fucking kpop because this is neil, vice-captain, super scarred up freaky deaky dude •of course this freshman is gonna video him so of course this freshman sends the video to the other Foxes to enjoy •matt is sitting on his bunk crying because it’s neil having fun he’s so proud of his friend •allison and renee get fucking rich        - allison heard nicky talking to neil about kpop so she got the best cash out of the bet pot        - renee hears everything andrew during their sparring sessions and he was complaining about how that fucking junkie is being buddies with nicky what the fuck? •kevin is just annoyed that it’s happening on his court but he’s glad that nicky is finally on the court early instead of late •so here’s these two exy players, dancing like kpop idols, and the freshman wanna Fuck Shit Up •so u bet ur ass that jack probably put it on youtube for everyone to see •the fans have a field day because neil and nicky? in t-shirts and sweats? dancing? and everyone can see their muscles shifting under their shirts? a sight to behold •they probably have to address the whole situation at some point because the press would be like….what was that about?? •anyway so nicky would probably get roland to sort out a Dance Night™ without neil knowing and he would say to neil while they’re on the way to eden’s that there might be a dance thing going on. andrew would probably just look at nicky for a moment before continuing to drive, kevin would groan because he just wants some alcohol, aaron would be entirely disinterested, and neil would be dreading the thing but he would also be excited •he just loves kpop and the dances…not as much as exy, not by far, but he still loves it so nicky requests a song and they fucking smash it….they win the first round •and they continue to win the battles with their Mad Kpop Skills™ until they are crowned champions •kevin is just crying into his vodka he doesn’t want to be associated with these people at all aaron is still entirely disinterested •andrew is watching neil like a hawk because a lot of people were eying him and no one eyes what’s his •all in all it’s wild and fun and neil has something else to have fun with.

drabble for @nwesninski, who requested an urban fantasy au - i hope you enjoy this vicious inspired au!! || want one?
On the worst day of Neil’s life, Andrew dies.
Surprisingly enough, this is not what makes it the worst day. It had qualified long before Andrew falls to Neil’s feet, long before he’d faced his family for the last time. It had started staring down the barrel of a gun and it seemed it would end the same way.
Neil doesn’t even bat an eyelid at the body at his feet. It didn’t change anything. He was going to die here; he’d known it all along. It would be at his father’s hand, as slow as Nathan could make himself go. Neil wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of his pain. He clenches his jaw and says, “You got the wrong one.”
Nathan laughs, sharp and loud, but before he can say anything, Andrew sits up.
At that, Neil’s mouth hangs a little agape. Andrew is red with both his and Neil’s blood, sat in a pool of it, bullet holes riddling his shirt.
“Andrew?” Neil says, suddenly crouching to pull Andrew up.
Andrew accepts Neil’s hand, sticky with blood, and pulls himself up with surprising sturdiness. “Your father is a useless shot.”
Laughter bubbles up in Neil’s chest, sudden and almost choking.
Bang. Andrew’s body jerks with the force of a bullet.
Bang. Neil watches a second bullet land on Andrew’s chest, a fatal shot, surely - but no new blood appears.
Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang. Shots sound as Nathan steps closer to the duo, and Neil notices crushed bullets land at Andrew’s feet.
“Looks like you’re going to need stronger bullets, Nathan,” Andrew drawls, never one to be fazed by the impossible.
Andrew turns, shrugging Neil’s hands off him, and stands squarely between Neil and his father.
“What game is this?” Nathan growls.
“It’s a new one,” Andrew says, pushing Neil back. “This will be fun. How many bullets do you have left? Will it be enough to get through? I don’t think it will.”
“What did you do?”
“Oh, I think it’s what you did,” Andrew says, then strikes, knocking the gun out of Nathan’s hands.
Neil blinks and Andrew has handled Nathan and his crew. It must have taken longer, but Neil couldn’t say for certain. He doesn’t know what Andrew is capable of beyond bulletproof skin.
When Neil is certain Andrew’s done, he approaches him and reaches a hand out slowly to his face. “What happened?” He wonders aloud, running a hand down Andrew’s cheek - it feels the same under the layers of blood.
“I think I died,” Andrew replies, matter-of-fact.
The breath catches in Neil’s chest. “I thought so, too. But you’re here.”
Andrew gives him a hard look.
“This isn’t linked to your research project,” Neil says. “Your theory about superheroes.”
“EOs,” Andrew corrects blandly.
“So, what, you died and came back with special powers? A gift from God?”
“More like a gift from biology,” Andrew replies.
“Yeah, sure.”
“How else would you explain the fact that six bullets bounced harmlessly off my skin?”
Neil opens his mouth for a second, then shrugs. The human body may be capable of many extraordinary things when under stress, this he knows, but he doesn’t think defying death quite this literally is among those. “Does this mean you’re a zombie now?”
Andrew considers that. “Technically.”
Neil sighs. “I really thought that if my dad was gone, my life could go back to normal.”
“Your life has never been normal,” Andrew says. “Come on, I’m sure the Feds would love to get their hands on these bodies.”
“Come on, Neil,” Neil replies tiredly. “Just get over the fact that I’m a superhero now and your family is dead, we’ve got to move on.”
“Exactly,” Andrew says, already climbing the stairs.
“Don’t you think this gives you an unfair advantage against Renee?”
“There are no rules in sparring.”
“Who brings bulletproof skin to a knife fight?”
“I’ll bury you alive.”
“I’d love to join you in zombiedom.”

kinda out there but let me live
Andrew and Neil are starting to get the hang of their relationship and for some reason the foxes had the day off.
Keep in mind that by then the media knows Neil is The Butcher’s son because he’s pretty famous in the college exy world.
Andreil are just lounging around the apartment when someone knocks on the door and they hear a little kids voice.
This piques Andrew’s interest so Andrew answers the door and says to Neil, “It’s for you.” That’s all he says.
Neil comes to the door expecting it to be Matt and he finds a social worker with two kids, around 3 and a 3 month old sleeping baby.
The social worker says Neil’s father remarried and had two kids, so these are Neil’s siblings.
With Nathan dead and their mother in jail they don’t have any other family to go to so the social worker brought them to stay with Neil until they can find someone else or send them to foster care.
Neil shares one look with Andrew and he knows Andrew will not let these kids go into foster care.
Andrew takes the social worker into the kitchen so Neil can meet his siblings alone.
The 3 year old runs right to Neil and tackles him into a hug. The baby and the 3 year old look up at Neil with eyes the same color as his, and seeing them grow to look like himself teaches Neil that his physical features are good, and he starts to associate that color blue with them and not Nathan.
I have come to the conclusion that I don't have enough time right now to write this in fic form :((((( if you think you may want to write this in fic form please please DM me! I really want this idea to be written and posted on ao3! 😊

one of the most vivid memories Neil had of his mother is that time when he found her crying by herself so quietly
he wouldn't have noticed if he hadn't seen her shoulders tremble as a single tear escaped her eye
“what's wrong, mother?”
she looked at him and instead of anger, he saw only sadness
“love,” she whispered, her hands on his shoulders. “not you. you weren't supposed to-”
her stare so intense that he had to force himself to hold her gaze.
“i'm sorry, abram.” she says. “you weren't meant to do this on your own.”
but he was on his own.
since the beginning- since the moment they began running.
because his mother had only promised him survival- not company, and every time they both laid down to sleep, he felt alone.
and maybe he really was alone.
the day after, he promised his mother that he would run
no matter what- even if his mother fell and couldn't get up.
he had to.
Neil's done running now, but he did keep his promise.
he did run- he reached the Foxes.
and maybe that was his destination in the first place.
when he transferred to Palmetto State University, that was where things changed
where he was promised so much more than he had ever known
exy.
fox.
key.
stay.
family.
home.
people to fight for.
“Neil.”
//he doesn't have to be on his own anymore
and he has never wanted this much before.

this is my commission for @cabeswaterlovesthem for @tfcfansgive! hope you guys all enjoy some fluffy lailalvarez, and don’t forget to check the compilation zine which will come out july 11th!
“I was meant to have a week to stop thinking about her,” Laila groans, throwing herself onto Chey’s bed.
“But instead you figured out you have the hots for her,” Chey replies with no small amount of smugness, though she does submit to stroking Laila’s hair.
“No! It’s not like that.”
“Isn’t it?”
Laila bites her lip. “It might be a little bit like that. But she’s a dick! Just ‘cause I like her stupid hair doesn’t mean I like her.”
“Kinda seems like it does,” Chey says musingly.
“All I really know about her is that she’s a good backliner and she’s kinda funny, I guess, when it’s not directed against me.”
“And that she has great hair.”
“And face and eyes and- she’s very pretty, I can admit that, I’m not too petty to admit that.” Laila groans, realising the mocking thoughts in her head sound remarkably like Alvarez’s voice, little hints of a more Southern accent than her own bleeding through. “How weird would it be if I added her on Facebook mid-spring break to find out if she’s actually a prick to everyone or just me?”
“Very weird,” Chey says, plucking Laila’s phone from her hand.

tbh i’m always thinking about neil and matts friendship but here i am at 12:30 getting too emotional
☆ matt is a year younger than the girls but a year older than the monsters ☆this means there is a year where the girls are gone but matt is still playing ☆ and it’s his last year with the foxes so he really wants to make it count ☆ not only is he going to be done playing with his family, he still has to be working hard to get scouted by a pro team ☆ but the foxes aren’t great, they aren’t the fantastic winners they used to be ☆ (thanks to the newbies that don’t have the murder and kidnapping as a shared life experience with the rest of the team) ☆ it’s safe to say matts stressed ☆ he wants to win to secure a good team but more so that he wants to win because it’s his last year ☆ all the stress he’s felt is built up into their games and explodes on the court ☆ he’s being reckless and jittery but managing to channel his energy and be and amazing player ☆ (it’s one of the only times kevin will admit to his face that he is deserving of court) ☆ but it isn’t enough ☆ the foxes lose and matt is devastated ☆ they didn’t even make it to the final showdown ☆ and no one seems to notice the spiral he goes into ☆ he doesn’t turn back to drugs but he stops reaching out to dan for small things ☆ he stops trying to see if nicky wants to take a break from studying and play some mario kart ☆ he stops asking neil to meet up for lunch ☆ in a move reminiscent of andrew minyard, matt find himself on the roof ☆ he doesn’t have a mob boss looming over his head demanding he play exy like kevin or neil ☆ he doesn’t need to play to make his livelihood, dans salary will eventually provide for the both of them ☆ so he sits on the roof and looks out over the smallish campus he’s know for the past 5 years ☆ and wonders how things could have gone differently ☆ he sneaks away when he knows no one will follow him ☆ when he knows he won’t be a bother to anyone ☆ but neil isn’t harry potter, he’s actually perceptive and uses his observations to help ☆ he noticed matt withdrawing himself from his friends ☆ initially, neil was too caught up in his on worry from losing to notice what was happening ☆ it was his first year as full captain, and he wasn’t taking care of his team ☆ he wasn’t sure how he knew where matt would be, but he felt drawn to the roof ☆ when he showed up, matt was immodestly shutting down ☆"ah, hey neil! how are you doing?“ ☆"just checking in. seeing what you’re up to.” ☆"just enjoying the weather, hah. didn’t mean to pull you away" ☆"what’s going on, matt?“ ☆ he tried to keep it in, he really did ☆ but there was something about neil that just made matt spill everything that had been going on ☆ all of his nerves and stress was laid out onto the table for neil to see ☆ he didn’t want to burden neil with his problems but once he started he couldn’t stop ☆ he talked in circles until he felt there was not more that could be said ☆"so that’s where i’m at.” ☆ neil didn’t laugh at him ☆ or tell him his problems were inconsequential ☆ he wrapped his arms around matt and pulled him back down to matt’s suite ☆ he rounded up the remaining original foxes ☆ (including aaron to everyone’s surprise) ☆ together they watched exy highlights (for kevin), some movies (for andrew), played some video games (for nicky), and spent a couple hours in each other’s company ☆ in the morning matt called dan and talked to her about all the things he was going through ☆ as they headed back to practice the next week, matt stopped neil with a hand on his shoulder ☆ neil motioned andrew to head out without him ☆"neil, i just want to say thank you for everything you did. for listening to my problems and not laughing at me.“ ☆"of course, matt. you’re my best friend, i’ll always be here for you.” ☆"same goes for you man.“ ☆they were silent for a moment that was slightly awkward as they shared small smiles ☆ matt clasped his hand on neil’s shoulder ☆"lets go play some exy”
