people always talked about magnus and lucretia but i haven't seen too many people talk about merle and lucretia even though clint constantly goes out of his way to hang out with her and ask what she's doing and generally bring attention to her

Reading an old Star Trek book and to my surprise Jim Kirk has always had Daddy issues
So the only Star Trek book I’ve read was the one explaining how the tribbles episode was made and the aftermath, so trying to read Enterprise (1986) with some basic knowledge of trek post 2009 is fascinating. Cuz you see where the breadcrumbs of some of the characterization and even backstory come from.
In chapter 2, Sam Kirk and Kirk’s mom show up to Kirk’s ceremony where he takes command of the enterprise. They talk about George Kirk Sr. being in Starfleet, (he’s dead here too) something that I don’t think was in any of the episodes or movies. And how he was always distant and away. And they’re clearly going for some parallels/dramatic irony with the Wrath of Khan when it comes to Kirk not believing he could’ve developed a relationship with his father as an adult. And it plays into the tragic aspect I love about Kirk.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Upon reflection he’s happy that Carol rejected him (he proposed to her in chapter 1) because he doesn’t want to leave anyone behind while on the job, only returning for sparse visits the way his father did. But at the same time, Jim craves companionship. And he can’t get it in his current job because as captain, it is not ethical for him to date anyone else on the Enterprise.
Anyway the long and short is if we take this book into account, Kirk has always had daddy issues. It’s just in TOS EU it was abandonment issues whereas in 2009 it was dad sacrificed himself so high expectations issues.
The little details like the mom’s name getting carried over into the aos movies are a good touch, but then seeing George Kirk being a Starfleet officer actually get incorporated into the 2009 movie as an important plot point, and then also using his absence in Kirk’s life but just in a different way as part of Kirk’s backstory is so cool to me.
A difference though is unlike fanfic tropes, Winona is actually a good mom and wants Jim to succeed in his career where his father failed in his Starfleet career. Unfortunately though Jim appears to be falling into the same pitfalls. As in lack of communication and unwillingness to play workplace politics.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That last burn from Winona tho… like damn girl I felt that.
Another thing I want to backtrack to, Sam Kirk. Sam being the alleged chosen child, the one that was supposed to follow in George Kirk’s footsteps but didn’t, and then Jim strolled in and did even more than what Sam was supposed to do, and Sam and George never reconciled. Like dudes this book is almost 40 years old and this stuff was in strange new worlds last year. Tho xenobiology appears to have morphed into xenoanthropology (tho according to the fan wiki he’s still a biologist so idk what the deal is)
Tumblr media
For the record Sam’s characterization isn’t remotely the same here. Likely the choice to keep him out of Starfleet all together removed any sort of resentment of Jim potential like he has in SNW. There’s still tension though, as Sam tries to force Jim to confront why he’s reacting like this to his first mission for the enterprise being an escort job for a flying horse.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shifting gears back to Jim needing to learn how to play workplace politics. The assumed reason for Pike leaving the enterprise. While SNW is doing the whole, Pike knows he won’t fly the enterprise forever and about the disfigurement and is cool with it, I find if fascinating that he’s more, sad about it here and that he got promoted out of the way for pushing too many buttons. It would be a sad ending but I wonder if SNW would incorporate that into its eventual ending. Hell I wonder if that’s what happened to Kirk between TOS and TMP.
Tumblr media
Anyway big picture is this book is a fascinating time capsule and it’s fun seeing just how much has stuck around over the years both in fandom and in the franchise itself. Whether or not that’s the book’s doing is questionable but still. Fun to think about.

I know Buck and Natalia breaking up felt too fast and everything but can we talk about the character development that took us there? Like, after starting dating this woman that "sees me" with that usual pink tinted glass he has when entering a new relationship, thinking of how it makes him uncomfortable and all the red flags of "only being interested in death" is HUGE for him.
Think about it: 1- He SAW THE RED FLAG this woman was clearly waving and did something about it; 2- He DID SOMETHING TO PUT HIMSELF FIRST when he clearly wasn't feeling good about it, even if she kept coming back to him and clearly being fascinated by him so she was there and wanted him but he didn't felt right and DID SOMETHING ABOUT IT; 2- Buck BROKE UP WITH SOMEONE, which is a lot for him when he only did this once before with Taylor only after she betrayed him AGAIN (I don't know if I'm emphasizing this enough, Taylor showed him so many red flags and none of them were doing things right and he only broke up with her because he betrayed his family, more than himself, and it took a lot of him and even a little bit of involvement of Bobby kind of. Him realizing ON HIS OWN, and doing this FOR HIMSELF, is just amazing) and his other relationships only ended when it got too much for the other person, because he never stopped fighting for them and for making things work, like he learned when to let go.
I'm loving the evolution of everyone we are seeing in this new season and I'll never shut up about it probably but I was just thinking about that little detail and started training up

My Top 10 Favorite Cosmere Characters
Today is my birthday, so it's time for a purely self-indulgent birthday list! I thought I'd just share my own personal Top 10 Cosmere characters, which will just prove once and for all that I am SUCH a Stormlight girlie.
[Spoilers for Stormlight, Mistborn Era 1 & Era 2 and Shadows for Silence]
#10: TenSoon
I think I almost like TenSoon better in Era 2, when he's, like, an immortal quasi-divine figure who also happens to be a big, fluffy puppy. I like it when characters from different eras interact, so I was quite taken by having Wax meet TenSoon. I was also a fan of TenSoon back in the original series though, especially as his loyalty to Vin developed. And I'm one for a tragic sacrifice, so the kandra trying to kill themselves to avoid getting taken over by Ruin--that was a powerful moment (and I'm big fan of the fact that they did not, in fact, die. It was still a heroic sacrifice!).
#9: Silence
It's hard to say how much my love for Silence is part & parcel with my love for Threnody which, for whatever reason, is my favorite Cosmere planet. I like how Silence interacts with Threnody--the sheer horror and fatalism of living right on the edge of that forest, being a mother and a bounty hunter, keeping your dead grandmother in a back room...
#8: Adolin
I think Adolin is one of those characters I like because of his relationships with other characters. Especially Maya--I really love the relationship Adolin has with his sword, and when he and Maya fight back to back using the kata...that's one of my favorite scenes. I think he and Shallan are cute, and that he and Kaladin are cute, and that the three of them are a triad in their hearts. Also, and this will be a theme throughout this list, I love competent fighters and good fight sequences, so Adolin's duels really put him near the top for me.
#7: Navani
Rhythm of War really made me love Navani, I think. And not only because of that unhealthy yet somehow alluring relationship she had with Raboniel. We'll see throughout this list that I just like really competent characters, and Navani is such a smart and cool inventor of stuff, from watches to pain management devices to flying ships. And knowing what she went through with Gavilar and how she was made to think she wasn't smart or worthwhile only to have Dalinar and Raboniel recognize that yes she was smart and good at things and now she's cracked the code to make god-killing weapons and has bonded the Sibling and she's just so cool.
#6: Sazed
Honestly, I really love Sazed both before and after his ascension. I heard that people aren't always fans of Harmony, but I find him just as fascinating, if not more so--the idea of trying to balance such discordant shards in one being. But Sazed is, I think, my favorite character from the Mistborn Era 1 books. He is so sincere and smart and competent and deals with so much shit all the time. And I think he's doing his best.
#5: Jasnah
Like, Jasnah is just cool. She's so polished. So competent. So deadly. So smart. I think seeing Jasnah through Shallan's eyes for so long really made me respect and fear her as much as a reader can respect/fear a book character. That moment that she and Dalinar bonded over the book after Gavilar's death--very sweet. Kinda disappoited that we didn't get much with Jasnah & Elhokar--hard to remember they're siblings sometimes. In conclusion, I am both excited and scared to get more of her tragic backstory soon.
#4: Leshwi
Listen, I like cool fight sequences and enemies who bear a deep respect for each and duel a lot but never from a place of hatred. So, I was basically made to like Leshwi and how she interacts with Kaladin. But I also just like Leshwi's interactions with everyone. Leshwi and Moash? Awesome. "Hey you killed me once. Respect." Leshwi and Venli? Heck yeah. "I am slowly feeling you out and trying to see where your loyalties lie because they might intersect with mine." Once I am thrilled that Lewshi is joining the Listeners now. I want her to form a Radiant bond SO BAD.
#3: Steris
I seem to recall Brandon Sanderson talking about Steris as a character you don't like at first, but later you grow to love her. But if I remember correctly, I feel like I always liked Steris? Like yes, the marriage contract was a lot, but it was also so thorough and honest (and, honestly, funny). And then she just grew on me from there. As someone who makes a lot of lists, I also feel a kinship with Steris.
#2: Shallan
The first two times I read through the Stormlight Archives, I was all about Kaladin. But the third time, I really started to realize just how much I like the Shallan chapters. I think Shallan is a great character with a great arc--and I love the way she sort of grows into herself and her powers. Plus, I enjoy the slow reveal of how much she's already done--she already has a shardblade. And two spren bonds. And many murders under her belt. Quite the resume. And I really love Veil and Radiant, but especially Veil. The scene during the Oathbringer climax where she holds hand with her alters while constantly creating other alters to let them be killed legitimately makes me cry. She holds back a whole army by herself! She's amazing!
#1: Kaladin
Kaladin was my favorite character pretty much from the very moment I started reading Cosmere books (I started with Way of Kings), and he has never been dethroned in my heart. First, there's the simple fact that I love good fight scenes and fantasy heroics and people who gain the power they need at the very last second...and Kaladin does those things like every other chapter. But also, Kaladin is just such a good character. I love how he's not just a shallow fantasy hero--he has depression, and invents therapy, and struggles with guilt, and doesn't always make good choices. Sometimes the Kaladin chapters are tough--Rhythm of War was downright painful sometimes with just how much Kaladin was suffering--but even so. I will always look forward to the Kaladin parts the most, and like many, I deem Kaladin my #1 Cosmere Blorbo.

Just say your reply and dam let me say it
Nifty makes me so sad shes everything i love in concept yet her execution kills me; she loves cleaning shes a bug and not only that a old timey bad alien movie inspired
I wish this show was actually about the hotel and that she had gotten the "alastor is allowed to not tell us his backstory because we need a season 2 " treatment, if this show actually follow the premise of redemtion Niffty, V and Angel (heh all bugs) would be the most complex ones and satisfecho ones to write about
V even if i prefer she wasend an exorcist if she n camilla carmine were former winners turned exorcist and them fallen we coul have both sides of going to hell
Angel Hess from the mafia! How how you teden that?? Even if he gets his sould how you fix all the blood or family spill! How did Molly did! (Rip my girls desing wtf she has maneged to look bald n hairly??) Just the journey he would have to go tru a looong road, would charlie put him on the back burner? Would that make him have a relapse?? Would he learn Molly make it hell would that be his motivation? Just this man
NIFTY she is conected to Al and im fascinanted to know why he favors her so much, why shes like this do Al know- does she even know? Its this her cope, was she murder or the murderer ?? Was she too a rasing overlord? Its her past the reason ? How does she feel in general honestly shes done so little in the show but i wanna disect her n know why shes like this so bad
Sorry for the rant n probably bad english just had to get that out my sistem at 1 am lol
Niffty was done dirty by the writers, everyone but her, got character development or a moment that hinted to some sort of character depth (Even if it was shallow).
Why the writers decided to reverse the seasons I have no idea. Charlie finding out Heaven is corrupted doesn't work since the plotline hinges on the audience's investment in her reaction and the cast, but why should we? We don't see the cast trying to actively improve themselves and the show repeatedly tells us sinners are the worst. At this point, it makes no sense for the show to continue the hotel premise because we know Heaven is corrupted now. What's the point, when we already know any effort the cast puts towards redemption will be in vain?
The characters are fulled of mystery and great ideas but the show refuses to explore them. I was surprised by the lack of references at their human backstories. The cast's human lives are why they're in hell and the person they are now. Like, how are we supposed to know Husk's cheesy love for magic came from watching the magic shows in the casinos he grew up in????????? That seems like a very important piece of information to know about his character, considering it's one of the few things he still loves. In that one line alone, we learn so much about Husk and why he turned out to be an alcoholic gambler. At the end of the show despite spending time with characters, I feel like I don't know them as much as I should. I don't know their motivations, beside for Al and Angel we don't see them struggling through their flaws (The show has Husk tell us, writing 101 /sarc), and the show doesn't really explore the cast's relationships with each other or their world. So any potential information we could have learned about them from their interactions through others characters and their environments isn't utilized.
The show just keeps important info locked, tells you character's infos that would have benefited better from showing it, and then except the audiences fill in the missing gaps between info-dumps.
Don't worry about ranting, it's was fun to read and respond too. I understood you just fine.

Claude rant (ft. a Jennette rant in the end)
[ i posted this comment on one of the fan translation sites but i feel the need to do these 2 characters justice by posting it here as well. ]
Tiktok has pretty much made Claude into such a one dimensional character, putting him under the label as just a 'terrible father that did a lot of horrible shit to his daughter' like DUH, he's terrible sure, and but he has LAYERS. Readers forget that Claude suffered a lot from his own childhood and familial relationships, a weak and slowly dying mother, a father that probably only saw him as a spare, a brother he truly thought cared about him, only to end up betraying him, a fiance that never really loved him and even cheated on him with his brother, and finally- Diana. The one person that made him feel loved and made him LOVE, and suddenly she DIES because of an offspring that had such great mana that it killed diana, mana that she got because of HIM. OF COURSE HE'S GONNA BE SUPER FUCKING TERRIBLE, no one ever communicated with him, any sight of happiness always ended up being a bigger downfall than the other, Felix is probably the only balm to soothe his terrible relationships, and even then, Claude and felix still have tension between them because of the power imbalance as a knight and the EMPEROR. SO HOW TF DO U THINK, a child brought up in such a state of miscommunication, one-sided relatonships, political turmoil, relationships that hang on by a fucking thread, and not ONE person to guide him into being open about his own feelings and dealing with his trust issues??? OF FUCKING COURSE HE'S A BAD DAD, BUT HE'S A BAD DAD FOR A REASON, AN ACTUAL REALISTIC REASON. SURE HE DID A LOT OF BAD SHIT AND U CAN THINK HE'S A BASTARD ALL YOU WANT, BUT STOP FUCKING MINIMIZING HIS ENTIRE CHARACTER AS TO JUST BEING A 'HORRIBLE FATHER', he's so much more than that! he has nuance! he's go development! he's got LORE, lore that CAUSES him to be terrible and so emotionally constipated. DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON HOW YALL HATE ON JENNETTE SO BAD, IF U WANNA HATE JENNETTE SO BAD, GO HATE NOVEL JENETTE, MANHWA JENNETTE IS JUST A NAIVE CHILD THAT WAS SHELTERED, AND USED IN EVERY CONCIEVABLE WAY BY THE ADULTS AROUND HER (The duke using her as a card to help the ducal household, claude during his amnesia arc only using her as a tranquilizer and couldn't careless about her as a person, her own father for literally CREATING her) she was literally MADE to be used, she wasn't born out of love and yet she has so much love to give, AND ISN'T THAT SO FASCINATING? WHY DON'T PEOPLE TALK ABOUT HOW GREAT OF AN EXISTENCE JENNETTE IS WHEN HER ENTIRE PERSONALITY IS THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF HER BIRTH 'PARENTS' AND THE ENTIRE CIRCUMSTANCE OF HER CREATION, DESPITE HER BEING USED OVER AND OVER AGAIN, SHE REMAIND OPTIMISTIC AND NICE, ITS NAIVE OF HER TO DO THAT BUT THINK OF HOW STRONG HER WILL AND MENTAL SOLITUDE IS, SHE REMAINS GOOD EVEN WHEN BAD THINGS HAPPEN TO HER, SOLELY BECAUSE SHE IS GOOD, SHE HAS EVERY RIGHT TO BE BAD BUT SHE REMAINS GOOD WHY DONT YALL TALK ABOUT HOW GREAT THESE 2 CHARACTERS ARE AND THEIR DEVELOPMENT? WHY DO YALL KEEP GIVING THEM LABELS THAT DONT COMPLETELY ENCOMPASS THEIR ACTUAL CHARACTER

it is 2am and i am feeling so much sam winchester love rn so here is a list of taylor swift songs i think resonate with him:
1. Anti-Hero
I feel as tho all the lyrics work towards his character.
Mr. Samuel “It’s me, Hi, I’m the problem it’s me… everybody agrees,” Winchester
I should not be left to my own devices -> Dean constantly implies that Sam shouldn’t be left to figure things out on his own. He does this so much that Sam actually confronts him about it, multiple times.
I wake up screaming from dreaming -> Sam used to wake up from his visions freaked the hell out.
The second verse is also very fitting; he always felt like a freak or monster compared to everyone else.
2. Clean
DEMON BLOOD !!!!!!
I think it works really well for his addiction arc because the song is about toxic relationships (aka RUBY).
The drought being the worst -> Being locked in Bobby’s panic room.
The flowers that we grown together died of thirst -> The powers that grew and developed during his addiction and slowly disappeared when he was sobering.
I screamed so loud but no one heard a thing -> Sam was shouting and banging for hours down in the panic room and no one came to check on him until he was quiet.
Ten months older, I wont give in. Now that i’m clean, I’m never gonna risk it -> He never went back
3. Nothing New
Honestly, the whole reason this song is on the list is because of the lyric:
How can a person know everything at 18, but nothing at 22 -> Sam left for Stanford at 18. That was his first taste of freedom; it was his first time deciding something for himself. He was his own person. He had finally escaped. But, then at 22, Dean came and brought him back in. Jess dies. Everything feels lost again.
In general, I think Sam has lost of teenage girl vibes to him tho. This is probably self projection, but I think its true and this is MY analysis so <3.
4. My Tears Ricochet
This song is about Sam and John’s Stanford fight, and general dynamics that they share.
This one is going to get it’s own in depth, dedicated post <3 but some highlights are:
Even on my worst day, did i deserve, all the hell you gave me -> Sam was a child. No matter how arrogant or frustrating he could be, John should have never been so harsh on him. Telling your kid to never come back just because he wants to go to college is INSANE.
And I can go anywhere I want, just not home -> THIS LINE IS SO AHHHHHHH SAMMY.
Cursing my name, wishing i stayed -> John. John. John. Cursing Sam to never return, while simultaneously wishing he had never left.
Cause when I’d fight you used to tell me I was brave -> Parallel, John telling Sam he being brave on a hunt VS John condescendingly saying Sam was being brave for standing up to him.
You had to kill me, but it killed you just the same -> John realizing that Sam might have to die if nothing changes. John giving that responsibility to Dean by giving his life for Dean’s; selfless selfishness.
5. Mirrorball
Mr. Samuel “And when I break, it’s in a million pieces” Winchester
I’m still on that tightrope, I’m still trying everything to get you laughing at me -> Sam continuously tries to do his best under every circumstance. Even though most of the people around him have such little faith in him. He won’t stop trying.
And I’m still a believer, but I don’t know why -> His faith is God and the stereotypical Christian religion in general throughout the series fascinates me. He has very little reason to keep his faith, but he does. Even in later seasons, I think it was s11, when he prays and believes that Lucifer’s visions are actually messages from God.
I’ve never been a natural, all I do is try try try -> Sam doesn’t actually know what he is doing. He uses his training, but that only can get you so far in mental battles with Lucifer or physical battles with God. He does what he thinks is right. He just wants to help.
6. This Is Me Trying
This is also in the works of developing its own post. Highlights include:
I didn’t know if you’d care if i came back, i have a lot of regrets about that -> Sam never got to know if Dean wanted him back. All that time spent at Stanford he had to wonder if his father and brother actually missed him or not.
Could’ve followed my fears all the way down -> This just screams Lucifer trauma to me
THEY TOLD ME ALL MY CAGES WERE MENTAL, SO I GOT WASTED LIKE ALL MY POTENTIAL -> *violently screams and shakes* The visions, Demon blood, Hallucifer, literally anytime Sam is struggling it is brushed off as him being too worked up about it. Dean literally COMPLAINED to Bobby about how much work it was that Sam was mentally ill. LIKE DUDE.
AND MY WORDS SHOOT TO KILL WHEN IM MAD, I HAVE A LOT OF REGRETS ABOUT THAT -> Sam does say shit that is hurtful. He does shit that is bad. It’s usually out of frustration from someone else’s actions towards him. AKA it’s usually towards Dean, when Dean belittles him.
pouring out my heart to a stranger, BUT I DIDNT POUR THE WHISKEY -> Sam vs Dean (this is NOT me belittling Dean’s alcoholism bc i get he has an issue)
That this is me trying, AT LEAST IM TRYING -> Again, Sam is just doing his best.
And it’s hard to be at a party when I when i feel like an open wound -> Sam has to just behave and go through his life normally even when he is struggling with abandonment, addiction, 180 years of every abuse imaginable and unimaginable, guilt, and just so much suffering.
It ’s hard to be anywhere when all i want is you, you’re a flashback -> Sam’s feelings about Jess. I constantly think about that scene in the impala when he tells Dean that he still thinks about her. It had been like twelve or more years. Its so painful.
please excuse my typos
i am yet but just a girl
<3

I want to hear from you as a fellow shipper: 1. Out of all the humans that Sigewinne has encountered in her probably long life, what makes Wriothesley special? 2. In turn, what makes Sigewinne special to Wriothesley? Side note: Fontaine has really been emphasising on the human-non-human relationships (Neuvia, Callirhoe and Finch, Neuvifuri) and how they have changed each other, and I would be very happy if they do continue in that direction and give us significant Wriosige moments. I personally think that their best dynamic would be a complementary contrast to NeuviFuri's - as in NeuviFuri revolutionised against the tyranny of Celestia and the Heavenly Principles and were the lead actors in the drama that was Act V, but WrioSige are more down-to-earth and "realistic", quietly improving the Fortress one reform at a time (and because it's been bugging me a lot, I hope post-Archon Quest events give ample time to develop the reforms of the justice system in Fontaine bc if it's as simple as "Neuvi ascends to power" it's still a shit system).
Do they have to be special? Is it not enough that, of all the people they've met across their lives, something slowly came to life as they spent time together?
I don't know much about love, really. I'm aromantic, so it's a feeling that will forever be out of my grasp. But I do know I don't really believe in soulmates, or in "the one". I believe you either find, or build a connection with someone, and that "someone" can be many people.
I do think Sigewinne has been Wriothesley's only romantic interest across his life, if just because he was sent to Meropide when he was still very young - 10 to 15 years old, most likely, considering Genshin seems allergic to characters older than 30. You can fall for your fellow inmates, Avice and Faissolle have shown as much, but under the previous warden I doubt that was much of an option - and his focus was largely elsewhere. As was everyone else's, really. Every day was pretty much a fight to survive. And that leaves Sigewinne, who was likely there before the previous warden and who will still be there once someone takes over after Wriothesley. Her existence almost feels separate from the rest of the prison. Pair that with the fact that he fought a lot and so probably saw her a lot to get patched up, and she starts standing out to him. She's kind, but she isn't naive. Humans to her are both endearing and interesting, and neither of those feelings are malicious. And she's much, much smarter and older than she looks. Compared to what most other people in Meropide had to offer, plus those inhuman traits unique to her, no wonder she caught his eye and later on his heart.
Sigewinne, though, has lived a long time. Several centuries is a safe assumption. We know from Neuvillette's story quest that the relationship between humans and mélusines hasn't always been good, but it's been better for many decades. And with her interest in them, I'm willing to bet several humans caught her attention long before Wriothesley was even born - likely all for different reasons too. She might not have understood her own feelings back then, though - in fact she might only have come around to understanding "love" by the time she met Wriothesley. Those that came before him paved the way, in a way. If she were to find a pattern across all those that caught her eye, I'd say she likes strong characters. People who stand their ground and keep their beliefs at heart even when all the odds are stacked against them. It's fascinating to her, because it's not a feeling that comes naturally to her the way it does to them. She sees a spark in them, one that's very literal in her mélusine eyes, and she's drawn to it. And maybe they remind her of an old friend, too.
(And my friend I sure hope we'll get more interactions between them as more patches come out. As you said, Fontaine has been delivering on the side of relationships with nonhumans and I want more of it. Especially these two. They're so casually married, I'm still not over the photos conversation.)

"Bob's Burgers" Season 6 Episode Ranking Rewatch (Long Post)
So, I've been rewatching "Bob's Burgers" from the beginning and ranking the episodes using the spreadsheet that @babsvibes created! If you want to know why I'm doing this or how I view the 1-5 rating scale, you can check out my Season 1 post! If you want to check out any of the other seasons, I've been using the "bob's burgers episode ranking rewatch" tag for all of them.
Now, on to Season 6:
Tumblr media
Average (Mean) Score: 4.47
Mode (Most Common) Ranking: 5
Ranking breakdown: 11 5s; 6 4s; 2 3s
Season as a whole thoughts:
Another really solid season! The thing that I remember standing out to me even as it was originally airing was the number of callbacks to earlier seasons, and especially the first season, with the title (and plot) of "Sexy Dance Healing" and the title of "Sacred Couch". I remember wondering at the time if there was some sort of significance to it (my fear being that maybe the show was preparing to wind down- a lot of my favorite shows ended after 7 seasons). I wonder if maybe the production staff was feeling nostalgic with the 100th episode coming up- or if they just enjoy making callbacks as much as I enjoy spotting them (and making them in my fics)! Either way, it's the thing that stood out the most this season.
Some thoughts on specific episodes (and feel free to ask if you want my thoughts on an episode I didn't comment on):
"Sliding Bobs": Doing the rewatch, I've noticed that I generally enjoy the three-story episodes but I think this my absolute favorite because I love the framing story so much. I honestly find what Linda says to Tina at the end, about the universe being random but sometimes everything lining up and going your way, to be really beautiful and meaningful. I'll take random crap going my way over fate any day.
"The Land Ship": One of the rare episodes from the middle seasons of "Bob's Burgers" where neither the A plot or the B plot interests me. There are some funny bits ( I mean, Mr. Ambrose is in it, so of course there are some funny bits) but overall it's pretty meh in my book.
"The Hauntening": As I mentioned when discussing Season 5, I got to see a clip from the animatic of this when I saw "Bob's Burgers Live" at the Chicago Theater, so that will always make this special to me. Even without that, it would still be one of my favorite Halloween episodes, and I love Boyz 4 Now song and video at the end!
"The Gene and Courtney Show": Another follow up on Season 5, but as I mentioned when discussing "Work Hard or Die Trying, Girl", the rewatch has made me realize that I really love the way Courtney's character and her relationship with Gene developed over the show, and this is a big part of it. Gene's song at the end of the episode is so beautiful! This isn't my favorite Valentine's Day episode (that's next season...) but it's probably in my top 5.
"House of 1,000 Bounces": Bob: "Can pigeons open doors?" Teddy: "Do you mean metaphorically? In the right situation, I suppose." This may be my favorite Teddy line on the show, and the pigeon subplot is absolutely fantastic in my book. But, you're probably expecting me to talk about the Rudy plot, so...I think it's fascinating the range of takes there are on this episode. I've literally seen people list this episode as the reason they ship Louise/Rudy and other people list it as the reason they don't ship it. For me, it isn't either of those things (I was already on board the ship) but I to think it is a good story about their friendship. One of my (many) similarities with Rudy is that as a kid (and honestly, still now) I cried pretty easily. And there were definitely other kids who noticed this and would just try to get me upset because they thought it was funny. So, I love the fact that as soon as Louise realizes how upset Rudy is, she works to fix the situation. She cares that he's upset. I also think it's fascinating to watch "Bridge Over Troubled Rudy" after this one because it almost seems like the show realized they resolved Rudy and Louise's conflict a bit too neatly here and needed to explore that further (several seasons later...). If you want more of my thoughts on the role those episodes played in the evolution of this relationship between two cartoon nine year-olds that I overthink about, you can read my best non-fic piece of "Bob's Burgers" related writing.
"Stand by Gene": I've mentioned before that I love episodes that involve the Belcher kids and a diverse group of their friends going on an adventure, and I think this might be the best of them all. In my mind, it's kind of the Trope-namer, I think of those types of episodes as "Stand by Gene"-episodes (even if "The Belchies" was probably the first one).
"The Hormone-iums": This episode is really one of the two that inspired me to this rewatch! Honestly, I just sort of vaguely remembered its existence and had no clue if I liked it- so if I rated it without rewatching it I probably would've given it a 3 or maybe a 4. But I happened to catch it on TV and realized how freaking funny it is! A wonderful Tina puberty plot; the wine shoe B plot (complete with Louise wearing mouse ears on her bunny ears during their presentation to Calvin and Felix, which is basically the cutest thing ever); great songs; a joke about Tony Danza- this episode has it all, in my book! Definitely a 5; the original sleeper hit.
"Pro-Tiki/Con-Tiki": This is a pretty funny episode. Chris Parnell is a hilarious actor, and as an "Archer" fan it was fun to have him act opposite H. Jon Benjamin in a different role. But I give this one a 3 because I hate the central conflict and the way it is resolved. It's one of the few episodes of the show where the actual plot and its ending really bother me. Warren and Bob are both kind of idiots in this one. Bob has a super-rich friend who is willing to lend him money to help his business, but instead Bob chooses to frequently be on the verge of going broke because of American small business owner macho capitalism self-reliance independence nonsense? Screw that. The other Belchers were right to be mad at Bob for his actions in this episode; he's lucky they forgave him.
"Bye Bye Boo Boo": I love Louise's crush on Boo Boo so much! It is an absolute treat any time it gets brought up! It's one of the few things that completely knocks Louise off her game, and it is wonderful for that. (Also, a pretty accurate portrayal of what it feels like to have a crush, regardless of your age or gender.) Honestly, after Roudise, Louise/Boo Boo might be the Louise ship with the next most appeal to me (do they have a ship name? It has to be "Lou Boo", right?)
"The Horse Rider-er": Did you know that being the voice of Jericho is widely considered to be Paul Rudd's second most iconic role after Peter Klaven in "I Love You, Man"? (It's not, I'm just making a weird joke to amuse myself.)
"Glued, Where's My Bob?": They did a great job for the 100th episode! Honestly, if the show ever gets a planned series finale, I kind of hope the last scene is something similar to the climax of this episode- all our favorite recurring characters hanging out in and around the restaurant and supporting Bob. (Except, maybe it would be for something good, like Bob making a really amazing burger, rather than him being glue to the toilet...)
Random thoughts (stuff that doesn't affect the ratings):
-I wish they had handled the Frond/Gayle relationship a bit better. I actually think they make sense as a couple and I wish they had done more with them before breaking them up off screen. Or, they even could of kept them together (although, I understand the writers thinking it's funnier to have them single.) But at the very least, I wish they could've aired the three episodes that discuss the relationship in an order that makes sense! Why did they air "Gayle Makin' Bob Sled" before "The Cook, the Steve, the Gayle, & Her Lover"? (I mean, probably something to do with Fox's schedule and holidays and football and so forth but it still annoys me.)
-I literally just noticed that the title of the episode is "Gayle Makin' Bob Sled", I'd always read it as "Gayle Making" and thought it was just a straightforward title and now I am realizing it was probably actually supposed to be a pun on the Jamaican bobsled team immortalized in the movie "Cool Runnings" (and discussed by Gene in my favorite Christmas episode "God Rest Ye Merry Gentle-Mannequins"). God, I love the "Bob's Burgers" writing staff and the length they will go for a silly 80s/90s pop culture pun!
See you in Season 7! The post could be up relatively soon, since I've actually completed the rewatch of it, too. (Spoiler: Season 4 might be getting knocked out of first place...)

How would you characterize Lloyd/Suho’s relationship with Alicia in Tged? I’ve just started the webcomic and I find their dynamic so fascinating despite that they’re not the main relationship of the series.
it's. it's hard to describe. and tbh i'm not the best person to ask. i am not a lloyd/alicia shipper and i was too fascinated by every single other of lloyd's relationships that i think i missed when their relationship started to shift into a more personal one.
lloyd respects alicia, he knows she's a tolerant, fair and just queen, he feels relatively safe that she won't screw him over for no reason and knows he has her absolute trust. he's kind of afraid of her tho lol like not because he thinks she's evil or anything but simply because, well, she's the queen. you gotta treat royalty carefully. and alicia is the kind of ruler that wants to squeeze the last bit of use of her subjects, not without fair compensation of course but still, she isn't the kind of person who likes to see a competent person just lazying around when she can put them to use to the betterment of her kingdom. so that's. not good for lloyd's plans lol
as for alicia... she mainly thinks he's a very smart, very competent, very stingy and petty person lmao. he's cunning and insolent and lazy and capable and she kinda likes him. he's frustrating but he's trustworthy. he's annoying but he's reliable. he's cheap but he's hardworking. he's exactly the kind of person she wants working for her.
"A competent individual was to be used. Ignoring one's talent was wasteful, and it bordered on being sinful. The more tired capable individuals became, the more prosperous the kingdom and people's lives became." <- alicia's ideology and lloyd's worst fears lol
she knows exactly what he wants and how very non-ambitious he is. that he wants to live an ordinary life and he's just itching to be free of having to work. she is absolutely not up for that lol
so like. they're both extremely smart people. intellectually they're pretty much equals. but when it comes to their power dynamic i always feel a bit iffy tbh 😅 i really didn't like the change they made to the webcomic where alicia outright threatens to invade the frontera fiefdom if lloyd doesn't do the work she has for him. most of their interactions is either her summoning him for a job or lloyd going to her to offer something in exchange for her help or to avoid a disaster. and when it comes to their flirting it mainly boils down to alicia flustering lloyd and lloyd just,,, accepting it ig jakshdska
i don't know! i feel like a missed a huge chunk of the novel! like! honestly! at the end of the novel, lloyd says that when he was struggling with his despair back in korea that two people he thought the most about was javier and the queen. javier because he was like a brother who had always been there with him. and the queen because he'd never told her about his feelings. and like???? what feelings??? when did that happen?????? we have 400+ chapters of lloyd and javier's relationship growing and changing and evolving and then we have,,, i'm not sure how many chapters are about lloyd and alicia interacting actually, sorry, but they're not nearly enough for me to believe he would think about her an equal amount to someone he spent the better part of the last few years of his life with or to, y'know, his found family, the one he also spent years coming to know and love.
my feelings about their relationship are very tainted by my frustration that the author seemingly couldn't bring himself to give lloyd a happy ending that didn't involve him getting married to the only female side character who was 1) not related to him, 2) already in a relationship with someone else and 3) who's character development was directly related to her not having to marry for duty. it just. it had to end with him marrying for it to be a happy ending apparently.
so i'm really not the best person to ask about them i'm so, so sorry alskdhlasd

Hi, Ray! So, I know you're kinda like me in that you tend to Fixate on one character in a fandom, and aren't really interested in reading fics about other characters. For me, in Naruto, my Fixation is, well, Naruto himself, I'm usually not interested in fics that don't include him. However, this fandom is one of the rare cases for me where I have multiple characters I Fixated on, namely Kakashi in this case. The point I'm leading up to here is that I recently read some amazing fic (1)
(2) that are entirely Kakashi-centric, and involve Naruto only on the side, so I'm not certain if you'll enjoy them or not. Just in case you would, though, allow me to present to you literally every fic by butter_peanut on ao3. Their fics are very popular, so there's a good chance you'll have already read them if you are into the Obikaka fic scene, but in that case just take this as me gushing to you. First of all, there's Kamui Blues. This one has some of my favorite Kakashi characterization
(3) that I have ever seen. Like, in canon, it often feels like Kakashi got nerfed hard for the sake of the plot. He has to be just strong enough to fight evenly with the enemy at the time, while also allowing Naruto to sweep in and make an impression, you know? It's a pretty normal thing in mentor characters, I get it, but it still itches at me just because of how much I ended up liking Kakashi. Kamui Blues is pretty much exactly the levels of genius Kakashi I wish we had gotten in canon.
(4) It is incredibly satisfying, to see him actually have the chance to use the skills he was stated to have in canon. Kamui Blues Kakashi actually feels like the natural extension of someone who made chuunin at six jonin at ten ANBU at 14. His whole thing was using a Sharingan to copy a thousand jutsu and using them so well that it became his title in a way that even actual Uchiha couldn't do, but we never actually get to see that in canon. Sure, he has cool moments, but it just
(5) doesn't feel like it measures up in comparison to what he could have been, you know? The New Recruit universe by that author also does a great job of actually letting Kakashi be an awesome badass, though the overall fics take more of a comedic route with moments of seriousness that Kamui Blues plot-heavy and serious with moments of comedy. Of course, then there's the Week in Kiri universe, which I also adore for... different reasons. It's the most smut-centric, but with character development
(6) of the fics. Honestly, Kamui Blues and Week in Kiri both have Kakashi characterization's that I enjoyed so much they are my new permanent headcanons for him. If you've read them, I'm sure you already know what I mean, and if you haven't I think it's better that you see for yourself rather than have me spoil it for you. Oh, and of course the sex is incredibly hot, and Kakashi is dripping with self-loathing in the most fascinating of ways. Basically, I just wanted to make sure you hadn't
(7) missed out on these absolute works of art. The relationship between Kakashi and Obito is exactly the amount of fucked up but affectionate and mutually obsessed with each other that drew me to the pairing in the first place. Like, it's literally canon that Obito stalked Kakashi from the Kamui dimension. How could I not fall in love with this pairing, huh? Tell me I'm wrong. Anyways, love you Ray, take care, just wanted to pop by and chat up one of my favorite authors a bit, see ya later! :)

Wish Sylvie and B-15 had got a bit more action together in season two, a bit more interaction, given that Sylvie is the one who sets off B-15’s realisation about who she is, and what the TVA is and does, and B-15 is the one who goes on to lead the organisation Sylvie was determined to burn to the ground. Like, they had a pretty big impact on each other last season. B-15 freeing Sylvie and Loki from their time collars, getting Sylvie her sword back was the declaration of her rebellion, but she also uses For All Time. Always. Because that still means something to her, she’s just shifted precisely what it means. But her fire and dedication, that stays with her into season two. Having Sylvie see that in her would have been fascinating. How do they feel about each other and their stances in season two? How does Sylvie feel about what B-15 is doing with her life now Sylvie’s given her her memories back? How does B-15 feel about Sylvie, her choices, given that she was pretty instrumental in setting her free to pursue those goals? Sylvie kills He Who Remains and just walks away, like she always said she was going to, but B-15 is one of the ones responsible for picking up the pieces. The two of them had a very interesting and promising connection in season one, and an impact on each other that stretches into season two, and it might have been nice to have seen more of that, built on that. And, as much as I enjoyed Loki’s “hope is hard” speech as an expression of his character development, and there’s something about two deeply hurt and damaged characters having a conversation about how hard it is to fix broken things that pulls on my heartstrings, Sylvie’s fears about the TVA in that episode are genuine and pretty well grounded ones. So, rather than just having Loki tell Sylvie they’re doing their best to change, show her. Have her and B-15 interact. Show me their season 2 relationship. Show me them interacting, one who wants it burnt down, and the other who has faith it can be better. And I know that Sylvie’s aversion to having anything to do with the TVA would have made that hard, this is just my personal desire. Show me. Show me

Your interpretation of Cody and Obi-wans relationship in parallel to Obi-wan and Anakins was something that never really crossed my mind. But now that you say it, it really is a fascinating view on them. I'd read a whole book about it.
In response to this post.
Funny you should say that, Anon. I am currently in the process of writing a rather sizable chunk of a fic, for the purposes of having a lot of it written before it starts going up, and the dynamic between these three are a key element. Though, I have a blorbo—Rex is the main character. These three? Though? They contain some of the most important relationships in his life, so that will be explored, a lot. Especially since the three of them play a large part in what drives the narrative.
I am glad you feel that way, specifically.
No matter what, Cody is, like all Clones, an incredibly young man. Even if we somehow set aside the fact that he was 'born' the year Obi-Wan became Anakin's master, which I don't think is entirely honest to wholly do, and focus on his physical development...
Cody is 'twenty-years' old when he meets Obi-Wan. Cody is functionally, in comparison, a 4-star General.
Let me elaborate further:
In the US Military, there are currently 17 active 4-Star Generals.
To quote Wiki:
There are currently 44 active-duty four-star officers in the uniformed services of the United States: 17 in the Army*, three in the Marine Corps, eight in the Navy, 11 in the Air Force*, two in the Space Force***, two in the Coast Guard, and one in the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. ARMY** and AF** are bold because it fits the scope of the 3rd System Army, with the 7th Sky Corps is nested within the System Army. Which, fits with the allegorical theme of the GAR being based on the US Military. The Air Force was a nested tactical corps within the US ARMY from its inception in 1933-35 (ask a military historian which date and start an argument), and became a separate and equal element in 1947.
One remarkable note is that the US Army has the most 4-star positions that it has had since WWII. But, I digress.
Much like the US Military is divided regionally, the GAR is divided into the major galactic sectors. Nearly all are under the command of a member of the Jedi High Council, and there were a 1–2 Admirals that were given command for brief periods. All were served by the highest rank achievable by a Clone—Marshal Commander.
That's our sunshine boy. One of the most powerful 12–15 Clones in the whole Grand Army of the Republic.
Under Cody's command, because let's be real, Obi-Wan is there to provide legitimacy, vibe-checks, and familiarity with the galaxy that Cody would not have—having grown up on an isolated world barely connected to the GFFA, there are 250,000 Clone Troopers, with a support personnel corps at about 4x–7x per Clone Trooper, and this is aside from Naval staff and any civilian personnel.
This puts the 3rd System at:
Low: 1,769,472 High: 2,359,296
Let's put this more in perspective.
The current US Military, combined:
Active Duty: 1.4M Total: 2.2M
Alone, the 3rd has more Clones than the Army Reserve, as of 2021. However, in total, would have more personal than the Active Duty on the low estimate, and the total (active+reserve) is still under the highest estimate for the 3rd System Army.
Cody's command is... massive. While I understand that this fits with the galactic scale, that is still... a lot for one person. Yes, I am going to stand by my assessment that Cody would have the most military responsibilities, even in comparison to Obi-Wan. General Kenobi does not have the training that Cody has been given.
Now, let's go into Training VS Experience. Training is the education received: NEARLY all US officers are required to have a higher education—a bachelors degree or above.
(Admittedly, this does get complicated).
To my knowledge, most have all been taught at one of the military schools—West Point, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, etc. There are some senior military colleges that are also secondary higher academies that some O-10s may have come from. Sorry, I didn't get too far down this one. While there may be exceptions, for the most part... this is going to be typical.
Generals typically have over 20 years of military experience.
30 years.
Developmentally, Cody is a twenty-year-old. 20. 10 * 2. Half of 40.
The lowest commissioned rank in the Army is 2nd Lt. Statically, the average age for all commissioned officers is, on average, in their forties, though a good number of our 2LTs are in their thirties.
Generals are typically in their forties.
This means that Cody is younger than... any officer.
Experience? Life Experience? Outside of education, drills and simulations? None. According to Legends, the Kaminoans barely allowed the RepComm trainers to ever use LiveAmmo. Though, it would be reasonable that by the time Cody would have entered ARC training, he would have been exposed to life-fire practice.
No matter how hard his training was, it was not the same as life-experience in the field. This is where Obi-Wan, one of the few Jedi Masters who has worked with military operations with ANY comfort—which was still very little, really lends himself to his XO.
The Kaminoans are professionals at creating and building... well, professional militaries. They had the help of Jango Fett and other Mandalorian trainers to augment their training. However, for the most part, the Clones were trained using the methodology and educational paradigm the Kaminoans created—though, never on the same scale. This was pure professional military education on an industrial level.
Cody?
Cody may have more training and knowledge than most four-star generals will have in their lifetime, all with the benefit of a wikipedia style swath of information, modern technology to impart that knowledge, and some pretty extensive stimulation. But, what is under Cody's pretty-little-military-cut head? All of it is knowledge that surpasses what most Generals will EVER dream, even if they just stayed in military education.
However.
He is a ten-year-old in a twenty-year-old's body with the brain of AT LEAST two-life-times of military experience.
Impressive, huh?
But, Cody is still... not like you or I.
At the time of Cody's training, it is highly unlikely they left the Kaminoan starsystem. If they did, they did not engage with the galaxy at large. This is a bit like growing up Tatooine.
On the edge of the galaxy, with only the stars to stare up at.
Anakin grew up in a sea of sand. Cody grew up in a... world of seas.
Cody's life experience, the life experience you and I would take for granted, is nonexistent. He could lead an army better than our best Generals could hope for. But, what else has he known?
My parallels are that Obi-Wan purposefully encouraged Anakin to be a sassy menace. He wanted to break that slave-mentality. Luckily, Anakin already showed that he could become a spitfire, even when he was sweet little Ani.
Similarly, I characterize that Obi-Wan did the same for Cody.
Anakin's shackles were the explosive in his body, the ferocity of how slave culture was brutally enforced—fear. However, Anakin knew that he was a slave, and he knew enough of something more.
Cody's shackles are the indoctrination he received from the time of his birth. Unfortunately for fandom at large, Cody is... a much more obedient military man that I think many want to see him. Based on remnants of Legends and the retained canon, no Marshal Commander would be in their position were they not... very obedient—to militant POVs. In fact, in the Disney comics, Cody has... a rather brutal attitude towards deserters—
BTW, in a military, desertion is one of the worst offensive that could be committed against a soldier's oath, that which they swore themselves to... but more importantly... their fellow soldiers.
In contrast, Wolffe is much more forgiving, and advocates for their re-assimilation in the GAR; Cody... disagrees with the fact that the deserters are still alive, and believes they should still be executed by a firing squad.
In season 1, Slick—for whatever reason—becomes a rare voice to call out the circumstances of the Clones. Not only do Rex and Cody recoil at a brother betraying the GAR, the Jedi, and of course... the killing of brothers, but they also scoff at his assertion that they are slaves.
Cut becomes a critical introduction to the slow character development we see Rex go through; Cody unlikely goes through the same because that's just how stories like this work. Just the simple act of asking the questions he gave to Rex set the stage for what happened on Umbara, and even then, Rex struggled to show defiance.
BTW, Fives's actions are fulfilling the duties of an (active) ARC. They are supposed to be more independent, whereas a command-class Clone like Rex may be a trained ARC, but his duties as a CC**** would mean that his prime directive is the cohesion of the command, and to assist in the joint operation between the Clones and the Jedi.
Fast-forward to Order 66 and Cody doesn't hesitate. Yes, it is the chip. However, that was not how ROTS was scripted or filmed. I know this is getting Doylist, but it is relevant. At that time, the Clones knew what was going to happen. They knew that they would eventually turn on the Jedi. Through the story of TCW08, it changes to a Manchurian Candidate concept, and eventually evolves the story of the chips that we know today. As the Doylist context changed, it remains that Cody acted without any pause. This is in line because the highest priority Cody held was always loyalty to the Republic. Loyalty to the REPUBLIC—Not the Jedi, not his brothers, not General Kenobi. Just. The. Republic. A traitor to the Republic is worst than the Separatists.
When the order went out, Cody's brain heard:
Obi-Wan friend. Obi-Wan betrayed Republic. Kill General Kenobi. He is no friend to the Republic—thus—to Cody.
Makes sense to him, especially at the moment. This is conditioning. This is indoctrination. This is militantism in action. The chip wasn't really necessary... it was for the sake of the audience who didn't want to believe that the men we began to care about would ever do this 'willfully,' even though all that mental conditioning and indoctrination would mean that they didn't have a choice... even if they didn't have the chip.
Obviously, by the time you get to TBB, when some Clones begin to question that Manchurian voice in their head, Cody's rationale returns, and so does his critical thinking. We have Cody, a Clone depicted in recent comics with a militant intolerance towards desertion, going AWOL from the Empire—that is HUGE. Was this his fall from grace? His fall to what was his darkside? From one angle, yes. However, it was a fallback into grace, and I like to think that it goes back to two people: Obi-Wan and Rex. We'll continue to focus on Obi-Wan, though.
I like to think that it was the seeds of the Jedi finally germinated, and it was Obi-Wan that planted them within his dear Clone Commander.
Obi-Wan being a one former menace himself—you know, a young man who thought tying two lightsabers to the ends of a rope was a good idea—got himself stuffed into one of the dreaded Jedi Council armchairs. Great, now he HAS to be responsible.
Cody and Anakin are, in many ways, parallels, just not direct. They are often inversions of each other, and together they make a great foil for Obi-Wan in general.
The idea that Obi-Wan saw this INCREDIBLY accomplished, intelligent, "gifted-child" of a Clone Commander and thought... "How do I get him to be a menace?"
I love it. I feel like it is just the thing someone like Obi-Wan Kenobi would do. It makes sense that Obi-Wan would want to help Cody grow beyond the very narrow—but extensive—field of knowledge, all for the express purpose of watching the young man develop into a more rounded individual.
It is also very, very Jedi. It was always the Jedi that were the sole friends of the Clones. So, it makes sense to me that the Jedi would advocate for this sort of well-rounded development. And the Clones? They would sorely need that kind of encouragement.
The Clones were never supposed to have names. They Clones were not individuals. It was the Jedi who told them to paint their units colors. It was the Jedi who TOLD him to pick out names. In Legends, and I think it fits with the remaining printed canon, Cody was actually very apprehensive and skeptical about how much of a good idea it was for the Clones TO develop individuality.
Cody was not bred for the specific purpose of his role—not even for being a CC. (Sorry, fanon)
He was just another Clone. Maybe he got nurtured and natured into a better candidate for a command-class Clone, but in the end? He was randomly chosen. As clarified in recent apocrypha, Cody was just a Clone Captain in the 91st when Obi-Wan found him and was impressed by him.
What made "Just A Clone Captain Cody" stand-out to Obi-Wan? There's plenty of theories that can arise.
In my lore, Alpha-17 recommended Obi-Wan go check out "#2224 in Windu's battalion."
From Captain to Marshal Commander? AHHHH. Someone send help.
Imagine the fine-lined walked poor young Obi-Wan had with Anakin: a former rebellious ginger-child himself, he became a well-behaved rule minder under Qui-Gon. Now he has this older Padawan, who is also a former slave of one of the harshest slave planets we know of. He has to get Anakin to be self-expressive, learn how to act on his own self-agency—AND—he has to also... try and help Anakin assimilate into the Jedi Order.
Take Cody: ten years old, looks twenty, has the knowledge of several lifetimes lived by career military men, who has seen very little of the galaxy.
Keep in mind, Obi-Wan met Jango Fett. He knew just what kind of attitude could lurk under that stony face so like the others, even if he said, "Yes, sir," without hesitation, and followed his orders faithfully.
I don't think Obi-Wan would be able to help himself. It is part of the Jedi Culture to be a positive presence. Unlike Anakin did with the 501st, Obi-Wan purposefully kept himself removed from most Clones; his empathy made it too difficult to ensure their suffering and death, so distance kept him remotely functional. The only two Clones Obi-Wan accepted as friends had been Cody and Rex. Obviously, Rex is an Anakin problem. But, Cody? His young, cloned, new friend? Right there. Right there. That... Jedi compulsion, that ITCH they get, it would gnaw at him. He can't help many others.
The same could have been said for Anakin, who was just freed, but had nowhere else to go—little Ani had no one else. Obi-Wan didn't have the same responsibilities as a fresh Knight as he would as a Jedi Master. He could risk everything and leave the Order to train Anakin if the Jedi won't matriculate him. He risked everything to help this one little boy. Later? He wants to risk everything, again. But now, his everything doesn't belong to him anymore—not even enough to consider leaving the Order. Every Clone death is another slice across him, and even a thousand papercuts will get'cha.
But, he wants to help. He would want to help beyond vibe-checks, lightsaber wielding, crazy feats of Force-enchanted bravery.
He would want to help a person—Cody, the clone so often by his side—become a PERSON in his own right. A young man that everyone else has forgotten IS a young man. I doubt Obi-Wan would ever forget that, like he never forgot that Anakin was a young man.
So, there is that itch. That... Jedi need to just... reach out and help make the galaxy a better place for others. One Clone. Is that too much to ask? Can he be allowed to be a mentor for ONE Clone? If he helped this Clone become more than a faceless soldier, if he helped this Clone have more growth and life experience than just what he was given on Kamino, maybe... Maybe Obi-Wan can imagine that there will be a life after the war. To do that, he wants to help his new friend become a full person—in the hopes of the After the War.
Obi-Wan cannot save everyone. He cannot help everyone.
But maybe...
Maybe, JUST maybe, he can help this one Clone become more of a person, and far... far less of just another number.
Slavery is a hell of a thing, and it comes in many forms. But another face of slavery is indoctrination, which is ultimately the stripping away personhood, so they can be utilized as a tool—sound familiar? Yeah, me too.
I think, Obi-Wan would recognize this about the two young men he cares about. Yes, even Rex, but... this post is about Cody and Anakin.
I went on more about Cody than Anakin because... there's a lot of wonderful meta about Anakin, and I'm not confident enough to try and fill the same niche. I also have so much I could say about how I envision Anakin and Cody get along, and how it might be through Obi-Wan's eyes. I'll just say this: he thinks both his overgrown students are hilarious together, and his tickles him... Ginger. ;)
Anyway, I hope this post finds you, anon, and you get anything from it. At the time of this post, I only have one posted fic. While it doesn't go as deep into this meta, there are some elements in it to get a taste of this characterization/meta. When the bigger version of the AU goes up—who knows. It is currently at 270K+.
Thank you for the engagement!
EDIT: There are MORE points of comparison that I just... couldn't get to. Such as the earliest characterization notes we were given about Cody, right after ROTS came out. (Overly cautious, anxious, but highly competent—I love me some anxiety-riddled people with excess competency. My "Imposter Syndrome" Cody isn't going anywhere, and it helps him lineup with Anakin.)
Side-notes and additional commentary under the cut.
***We don't acknowledge "space force" in this house.
**** Yeah, no, Rex is a CC. I'll fite over this. He is labelled in far more apocrypha as a CC, and it just gets way too complicated to label him a CT when he is in a command-class position. This is one area of new canon I'm just... gonna ignore. I hc that Krell was being a jackass to Rex.
Note: Rex was always a CC until the Umbara episodes. When he was called CT-7567... it was a script terror. I'm ignoring that retcon. There's even books printed as late as 2021 that list him as CC.

More YTTD headcannons this time for other characters:
I had a lot of fun with Sara, so why not do it with the rest of the participants?
TW for death, parental abandonment, angst, eating disorders, smoking, and abuse
Also spoilers for Chapter 2-1,
Keiji:
He’s Bisexual with a preference for men
Despite his relationship with the police force, he does enjoy cop shows such as Law & Order, Criminal Minds, and Castle.
I like to think he did have a slight, albeit brief crush on Megumi before, you know.
If he didn’t become a detective, his other career choice would’ve been a personal trainer or coach. (Hence why he is so jacked)
Keiji started experiencing depression in his high school years. He still has it, he’s just better at masking it.
The reason he’s a parental figure to Gin and Sara is to give them the dad he never had.
He developed a drug habit after leaving the police force, though he’s trying to stay clean now. (This was mostly influenced by Japan’s disdain for drugs and how he’s trying to break away from his former life as a cop)
Sou:
Demiromantic Gay Demiboy
He struggles with anorexia but he’s trying to recover for Kanna’s sake. (The dude’s 108 pounds at 5’6, that’s a little concerning)
Has an awful sleep schedule
As well as a chronic internet addiction (Take it from someone like me)
He does not like showing skin (Unless your name is Keiji Shinogi and he is fucking with you)
An absolute coding prodigy (He started when he was 10 and the rest is history)
Has a collection of 8 scarves
Reko:
Given how she’s afraid of ghosts, I think she’s superstitious ( 4 is death, etc.)
The reason why she’s afraid of ghosts was due to a childhood incident that involved her seemingly coming into contact with the spirit of a deceased friend
Identifies as a Trans Lesbian (First raise a daughter, then a son)
Both she and Alice were high school dropouts and ran away from their parents because of their strict and controlling lifestyle.
Moreover, her bandmates were under similar circumstances, which is how they initially bonded.
She was the one to come up with the band name Samurai Yaiba
Absolutely loves death metal
Had angers issues before her brother was imprisoned.
Is actually quite fascinated with goth core and astronomy
She never got so to properly say goodbye to Alice when he died.
Nao:
Her favourite forms of art are painting, sketching, and photography
Identifies as a sapphic (She isn’t sure if she’s Bisexual or a Lesbian)
Has a massive sweet tooth (Good thing she has a fast metabolism)
Due to having anxiety, she owns lot of stuffed animals and frequently wraps herself in blankets
She hates sunlight
Has a soft spot for Saniro
Her childhood was a very lonely one, which is why she latches onto people quite easily.
Additionally, the closest thing she had to a friend was her tutor Professor Mishima.
The reason she fell for Reko because she was strong and determined, yet soft spoken and caring.
Gin:
Huge FNAF fan ( Much to the chagrin of Sara)
Enjoys watching animal documentaries
He created the cat cape he wears.
Always dreamed of having a big sister to protect him.
Has trypophobia (Fear of needles)
Surprisingly tolerant of jump scares
Mew chan was a birthday present given to him by his mother
Has heavy allergies (Which is why he always dons a mask)
Hopes to become a veterinarian when he grows up.
Kai:
Abromantic Asexual Non-Binary ( Goes by he/they)
Had no idea about Rio’s existence.
Skilled in kendo and taekwondo
Tried faking his death in order to hide from Gashu so he could live among the Chidouins. It did not work.
Uses Lorieal for his hair.
Knew several Indian recipes
During his youth, he was often served mediocre meals by his father, who only saw him as a killing machine. Once he betrayed him, he was welcomed into the Chidouin household, and the first meal they made for him was Eggs Benedict. This act of kindness is why he holds the dish so dear to his heart along with being a passionate cook.
Kanna:
She’s a passionate gardener
Her favourite fruit is watermelon
Has claustrophobia
Her bucket hat was a keepsake from Joe when the two of them were children( Though she doesn’t remember it)
The reason she stuck with Sou because he was the closest thing to an older brother figure after Kugie’s death.
Tends to downplay her accomplishments
Kanna once tried offering Sou her pudding so he wouldn't starve.
Is currently questioning her sexuality, though she's tip toeing on being Asexual.
Mishima:
Gay Asexual (Have you seen him with Keiji?)
He never actually married
Him suddenly getting grey hair in his early 30s was due to the chronic stress during college and his time as a teacher.
Owns a guinea pig named Lain (After the protagonist of the anime of the same name)
Likewise, he's a massive science fiction fan
Q-taro:
Loves Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
Furthermore, the name Q-taro is just a nickname based on Jotaro Kujo's, though his actual name is Quinn Taro.
He's half-Japanese, half-American.
Q-taro never fully forgave himself for letting down the children at the orphanage, thus coming to the conclusion that he can never be seen as an inspiration.
He hates it when people compare him to Ronald McDonald
He enjoys working out with Alice and Keiji.
Alice:
He's Transgender and Pansexual (First raise a daughter, then a son)
He used the funds of the Yabusame sibling concerts and stored them on a secret bank account so his band could be financially stable early on in their careers.
Moreover, Alice is a surprisingly competent accountant and bookkeeper
He unironically watches reality TV and his sister hates it.
He always dreamed of touring Canada with the rest of Samurai Yaiba.
During his time in prison, he took up a hobby of arts and crafts.
He really likes sandals.
In the Reko Death route, he gave Nao a doll he crafted of his sister to make sure she remembers her.
Joe:
Identifies as a Panromantic Asexual
Has a small munsterlander puppy named Lightning
Was diagnosed with ADHD as a child
Has a stash of Shonen Jump Manga (His favourite is One Piece)
In fact, he really loves Nintendo, and owns several of their gaming consoles (N64, GBC, GBA, Gamecube, Wii, DS, 3DS, WiiU, even the NES)
Though Mario and Pokémon are the properties he treasures the most.
Likewise, he and Ryoko met at a gaming convention in Chiba.
The dog keychain he owned came from a Gacha Machine

Best Underrated Anime Group L Round 2: #L5 vs #L8
#L5: Underground boxer loves vampire doctor (BL)
#L8: Teenage girl and her friends literally hack society
Details and poll under the cut!
Tumblr media
#L5: Mignon
youtube
[Note on video: Lots of blood. Slight NSFW at the end. Turn on CC for English subs.]
Summary:
After losing his parents at a young age, Mignon lives as a mechanic by day and a cage fighter by night at an illegal arena. Living a life of exploitation and violence, the only person who gives him any attention is Oh Young-One, the resident doctor at the arena.
Despite accidentally discovering Young-One’s true identity, Mignon continues to love him, and it’s this pure kind of love that lets Young-One slowly open his heart. But when the hellish reality surrounding Mignon starts threatening the stability of Young-One’s life, can these two ever find happiness?
Propaganda:
Mignon is an independently-made BL aeni (Korean anime). There are only 12 episodes, and each is around 5 minutes long, except for the last one which is at around 8 minutes. Watching everything is like watching a short film, and not just because of the length, but also because of its quality.
The story is really short, so much so that we don’t get to see how Mignon and Young-One develop feelings for each other (It’s easy to guess why though). We’re thrusted right into the turning point of their relationship, with episode 1 ending with a shocking revelation that immediately propels you into the rest of the story. And by “shocking,” I don’t mean it was unexpected. It’s shocking in a way that its execution ingeniously builds up the tension before exploding right in your face.
The plot is nothing new in the yaoi genre, but Mignon makes up for this by delivering each aspect to perfection. The colors are purposeful, setting the tone of each scene while also telling us the significance of the place—loud, vibrant colors for the noisy arena, calm whites in the clinic where Mignon finds solace in Young-One, drab blues and greys in Young-One’s apartment where he’s lived alone for years, etc. Seriously, the backgrounds look like stand-alone paintings.
And oh, don’t get me started on the scene direction/arrangement. Every episode is impactful and unforgettable despite being very short. Episode 10, especially, is a cinematic masterpiece. Lastly, the music. There’s a lot of 80s synth-pop vibes that just work so well for it.
Mignon is really the kind of show you can call “art.” It’s a passion project by one person, and it took them three years to complete. You can just see how much thought is put into it. It’s not rushed at all, unlike a lot of weekly anime nowadays that would sacrifice the quality on unimportant scenes. And just for that, I think it’s worth checking out.
Trigger Warnings: Blood, Physical Abuse, Gambling
NSFW Warning: Tongue kissing and some explicit sex scenes. The parts are pixelated, but it doesn’t really leave much to the imagination.

#L8: Yurei Deco
youtube
Summary:
In the cyber city Tom Sawyer, society revolves around earning "Love," akin to receiving likes on social media. Citizens of this augmented reality exchange Love for public services and appearance-changing avatars via the Decoration Customizer, also known as "Deco," a hologram device implanted in an individual's eyes from early childhood. Under the government's careful management, the people of Tom Sawyer live a peaceful existence, outside the occasional appearance of Phantom Zero, a mysterious criminal who brings all Love to zero within their vicinity.
Berry, a mischievous girl fascinated by Phantom Zero, lives comfortably in the system of Tom Sawyer until her Deco malfunctions, enabling her to see a camouflaged prankster named Hack. Believing Hack to be Phantom Zero, Berry chases after the suspect and, in the process, begins to uncover society's most well-kept secrets. As it turns out, Hack is not the only person living outside the system's rules—and the vibrant colors of Tom Sawyer hide a darker nature.
Propaganda:
Without any spoilers, Hack can easily be interpreted as nonbinary in some sort of way (whether they’re transmasc, transfem, or otherwise androgynous/neutral/other aligned) and their birth sex is never revealed, which is a plus for me. Furthermore, it’s literally what would happen if you made a fun, hard science fiction series in the style of a Ted Chiang novel but aimed at kids and written rather optimistically. It still has the hard sci-fi elements of critiquing AI and social capital systems and whatnot, but it also has an upbeat, cheerful tone of a children’s show, and you know what? I really like cheerful, intelligent kids shows! It’s something that I could not only watch on my own, but also watch with my conservative family without being seen as inappropriate, and it’s a genuinely cute and fun show!
I also like the colorful, free-flowing art style, thanks to Science SARU’s art, and the diverse characters, not only in characterization, but in race, body type, age, and gender. And the plot twists in this show really excited me too! This is one of my favorite shows of all time, and I genuinely recommend people to watch this show as well! Sadly, it’s not dubbed, likely because of its relative unpopularity, but the Japanese voice cast is another plus, especially Berry’s seiyuu! Berry is genuinely her first voice role, and she KNOCKS it out of the part, especially at making Berry’s cheerfulness stand out. Another good point: the MUSIC. With diverse mixes of electropop, hyperpop, and bit-based sounds, it genuinely has such a unique soundtrack compared to a lot of 2020s era anime’s yakousei and anisong based soundtracks which, while I like some yakousei and anisong tracks, I’m just not fond of both genres.
Trigger Warnings: Unfortunately, as a Science Saru show, Yurei Deco is unfortunately very flashy on the eyes and thus very unsafe for epileptics, the photosensitive, and autistic people who have trouble with eyestrain, among others. There are also depictions of classism that, while shown as wrong and not good in the narrative, might trigger those who experienced class-based abuse.

Note
2 and 6 for Vierna :D
Ahhhhhh yay, thank you, Angy! (❁´◡`❁) So excited to talk about my girlie!
Ask me about my Dark Urge and/or my Tav(s)!
Tumblr media
2. What relationship did your Tav have with their family/guardian(s) growing up? Has that changed with age?
Oh you're hitting me where it hurts the most with this one, Angy! Vierna's relationship with her father, Dinoq, is everything to me, actually, and I have so many thoughts and feelings about it. Her father is the child of quite a difficult home; Vierna's grandmother, Quara, is a very manipulative, controlling woman, who very selfishly uses those around her to serve her own ends, including her son (who she has little respect or use for). She attempted to take Vierna from Dinoq when she was just an infant, and Dinoq stood up to her, for the first time ever, in order to keep his daughter, and broke with his mother for good. He took the child and left, but, from that day on, he's been haunted by the fear that his mother would some day find them and take Vierna, or that Vierna herself would one day become like his mother and leave him. As a result, he restricted Vierna a lot growing up, just out of fear of losing her. He never intended to hurt her, but ended up doing so anyway -- his overprotective ways smothered her at a critical phase in the development of her autonomy and sense of self worth, and the bright-eyed, inquisitive, excitable girl she once was grew into a repressed and withdrawn young woman. In a way, Dinoq did end up losing her because of everything he did to try to keep her safe and by his side forever. Other than his overprotectiveness and the issues caused by that, Dinoq is a doting and loving father, and he's taught Vierna a lot of good things, too: because of him, she's loving, caring, kind, affectionate, and always willing to see the good in others even when they cannot see it themselves. At the beginning of the campaign, this repressed and withdrawn Vierna is the one that takes to the road with a tadpole in her head. She grows and finds herself over the course of the journey, however, and learns things that make her question a lot of what her father told her about herself and her history (he lied and she finds out, basically). That causes a large fracture in the trust she had in him when they see each other again, but, over time, that trust is repaired. They become close again, in a much healthier, more balanced way than they ever have before. The tragedy of Dinoq is that he never intended to hurt her. He just... did, because he wasn't able to break through his own trauma, and put it on his daughter. And I have so many feelings about that, actually. 😭 Vierna doesn't know her grandmother (good riddance) or her birth mother, but her adoptive mother Taviana (her father's second wife) is a wonderful mother to her. Vierna believes Taviana to be her biological mother, and Taviana loves her and considers her her own daughter in every way that matters. She is, however, closer to her father, and that parental relationship is the one that, more than anything else, shapes her into the person she eventually becomes.
6. What is your Tav’s favourite childhood memory?
Vierna's favorite childhood memory is the first time she was allowed into the caves in the forest near her home by herself. She was twelve years old, and it was the first time Dinoq had allowed her into the forest alone to play. She tripped and fell, and, in doing so, stumbled upon a well-hidden entrance a cave system that became her favorite place in the world. The cave is full of spiders, mushrooms, underwater brooks, everything that a little girl obsessed with her family's heritage in the Underdark would be fascinated by. Her experiences exploring that cave system eventually lead her onto the path to becoming a spore druid.
