Ahhh fellow Dean girl, I salute thee! What got you hooked? The eyes? The freckles? The lips? The deep voice? Or you know...all of the above? Ahahaha!

Still, it's made me smile that you've found me, me of all the blogs and I'm gonna try my very very best to point you in all the lovely directions of this fandom. So...lets begin!

@deanwanddamons - reads a lot of fanfictions so there will always be new stuff on there, writes a few herself too! Also, a total sweetheart and super friendly. Will always help you where she can. I met her through SPN and we talk daily even 2.5 years later!

@smol-and-grumpy- Her URL makes her out to be smol...and grumpy but I can assure you she is definitely not grumpy. Smol...i am, yet to determine ;) She is one of the kindest souls, always has the first super hot images of Jensen/Dean and has an eye watering long list of Dean fanfic.

@talesmaniac89 - The graphic queen. Wanting a new Dean/Jensen wallpaper, icon - anything? Tales is your gal. She also writes and is a super positive lovely person who I adore.

@katehuntington - she's the Dean to my Sam. She's on hiatus right now, having a mental health break but doesn't mean her blog is still not a golden nugget in this fandom. Her series Ride With Me is impeccable.

@waywardbaby - a literal Greek goddess. She's such a sweetheart, and is so kind. She will always have the thirstiest pics and she will always be in the mood for Dean...if you get my drift ahaha.

@thinkinghardhardlythinking - A fellow UK girl who I wish I could live next door too. She's one of the most wonderful souls, and I always feel so honored to have her in my life. Fair warning, her fics are awesome and they are lengthy. It'll keep you good for hours ;)

@cockslut-padalecki - Another UK gal and Lisa is so so so lovely and I love her an incredible amount. She has a filthy masterlist for both Sam and Dean but fair warning, her fics are dark.

@janicho88 - Jenny is an angel. Never a bad word leaves her lips and she is also a fellow Dean girl!

@xlynnbbyx - drama free, absolute sweetheart and I adore the bones of her. She reblogs lots of fics, pics and like I said she's just a lovely lovely person.

@downanddirtydean - Lydia is one of the most passionate and kindest souls I know. We've been close friends now for well over a year and i just adore her. Just a little note though, she does support destiel so will post stuff about that from time to time! Just in case that's not your bag

@soaringeag1e - Meg is just a gentle soul. There is not a bad bone in her body and she is also a hardcore Dean/Jensen girl. You'll find so many fics on her blog!

@huffle-pissed - She is more Sam, and her blog is a mixture of her latest obsessions but she is still an absolute sweetheart. A ray of sunshine.

@chocolateheart - speaking of ray of sunshines, this girl BRIGHTENS my day constantly. Her fics are amazing (i know, i beta them) and she's just a bunch of pure gold goodness wrapped in a bow.

@watermelonlipstick - She loves her Sammy, with a side of Dean. Her writing is dreamy, and her friendship and the way she is is even more so.

Abt 2000s 2010s shoujo mangakas..

Are they still active in Japan? Or the lack of info about their new works on mainstream intl..is them retiring?

Or those 90s 00s shoujo artist just changed artstyle?

Hi, thank you for your question!

I’d say it does depend on the mangaka. Wataru Yoshizumi has a series that started in 2019 and appears to be ongoing. I know that Mia Ikumi tragically passed away from a Subarachnoid hemorrhage this year, but did the artwork for the Tokyo Mew Mew Re-turn manga in 2020 not long before her passing. However, even she hadn’t put out any works for many years until then. Pink Hanamori also has an ongoing Mermaid Melody sequel in Nakayoshi, but this seems to be the most recent thing she’s done since 2008. Mihona Fujii resumed the GALS! manga in 2019 after it seemingly ended in 2002. Arina Tanemura is also still active. Nakahara An of Kirarin Revolution fame finished her latest series in 2020. Nami Akimoto released quite a few works as recently as 2021, though they seem to mostly be single-volume releases. These are just a few examples, but in my experience, some of the most prolific mangaka from around that time are still active, but they usually come out with a new series every few years and tend to maybe have one ongoing manga currently running in a magazine (Tanemura and Yoshizumi). Others may not release anything for years, but may end up releasing a reboot/revival for one of their most famous and nostalgic works (such as in the case of Ikumi and Hanamori). One manga artist that comes to mind who seems to keep releasing very consistently over the years since around the mid 2000s is Ema Toyama. Her works have seemed oddly inescapable within the past 10 or so years. I do occasionally find mangaka for some series that are outright no longer active, though I’m struggling to think of any off the top of my head at the moment.

There could be various reasons for why mangaka take long breaks in between series or just outright quit after some time. As everyone knows, being a mangaka is extremely demanding and stressful work. Miho Obana, for instance, released her last work in 2010 and has a past history of tendonitis which she has gone on hiatus for before. It’s not unusual for the work to lead to health problems due to the extremely strict deadlines and heavy amounts of stress. There could also be other personal issues in their life that need tending to.

Another thing that could be affecting your perception could also be the number of series released where you live. Arina Tanemura still seems to be popular enough in the west (or at least well known enough), but I swear a lot of the popular shoujo mangaka from the 90s and early 2000s seldom get works released here anymore (at least where I live, in the United States. I’m not sure if its different where you live). I was actually relatively surprised (but pleasantly so) to see that Marmalade boy was getting an English re-release by Seven Seas. There’s seemingly such a limited number of shoujo series that get released outside of Japan and I feel that what is readily available where we live might not accurately reflect the reality of who is and is not still active. When you haven’t seen a work released from one of your favorite mangaka from that time period in a long time, it can make you wonder what they’re currently doing, and if they’re even still making manga at all. You also make an interesting point about how there are even fewer shoujo anime adaptations than there once were, but I feel that we’re starting to see a small change in that, and I hope that it continues. I could get into another rant about why we’re seeing such a lack in shoujo adaptations today, but I’ll refrain from doing so.

I’ll admit I’m certainly no authority on the matter and I worry my answer won’t be very helpful. There are certainly people who could give a much more informed, in-depth answer, but I hope I could at least provide some insight, if any at all.

Title: Instant Love

Author's Note: What if Mike found his ‘one’ without much effort?

-March 20, 2010-

Mike Cutter and Y/N Y/L/N were standing at the Bethesda Fountain surrounded by Connie, Lupo, Bernard, Cindy, Jack, Lt. Van Buren, and Y/N’s family. The justice of peace who was presiding over their wedding ceremony and was just about to wrap up but Mike couldn’t but stare at his bride. Y/N looked stunning in her mermaid wedding gown. It fit her like a glove and hugged her curves.

It had been a whirlwind of romance but it was all worth it. He knew from the instant that he saw her she was the one he wanted to be with the rest of life. They had managed to put pull of the wedding in a month; it wasn’t easy but they did it.

When he had first told his friends and co-workers they didn’t believe him and even volunteered to make sure she was legit and not a crazy person.

~A month and a half earlier: February 1, 2010~

This was utterly embarrassing. Today was Mike’s 46th birthday and he was still single. He was four years away from turning half a century old and he had nothing in his personal life. He had been on a dating hiatus but now that he had seen Connie date Cyrus Lupo he now wanted more in life.

So of all things he took out an personal ad to find his one. Just before he sent it off it read it one last time. When he was done Mike sighed. This was the best he could come up with. He pressed send and he had hoped for the best.

A few days later as Y/N was reading up on the latest fashion she ended up on the section of Love Gazette, which helped singles find love. She was scanning the section when a personal ad caught her eyes.

My name is Mike and I am a 46 successful SWM lawyer with salt and pepper hair and sky blue eyes. Seeking a woman of any race who is 25-45 knows what she wants in life. Must know the sport of baseball, at least the basics of it. Also looking for a life partner who seeks adventure when given the chance. If this is you please send an email at mcutterATymailDOTcom.

Something told her that he would be a the one guy for her. So she turned on her computer and sent him a message.

Greetings Mike,

My name is Y/N Y/L/N.

Your ad caught my eye and thought I would email you. I am Y/N Y/L/N. I am 30, single female. Baseball is my favorite sport as I grew up with two boys in the family! I am also one for adventures, being and trying new things. Send a reply if I am the gal you are seeking. Can't wait to hear from you.

Y/N Y/L/N

Mike couldn't help but smile at the email. Y/N Y/L/N huh? Hmmm from the mood of the email of it he sounds like a decent woman. Mike thought, Love is a necessary risk we all have to take sometimes.

With his mind made up, he hit reply and sent a message back to Y/N Y/L/N.

Just then Y/N got a ping and knew who it was from. She opened and read it.

Greetings my lady Y/N,

Since getting to know you better I was wondering if you would like to go out with me? We can keep it simple and casual for the first date? I will come to pick you up. Or we can meet up. Let me know.

Smiles,

Mike

After reading the message Y/N grinned. You’re ready.

She quickly typed a reply and sent it.

Mike,

I would love to go on a date with you. Just name the day. I can't wait to meet you.

With anticipation,

Y/N

It didn't take long for Y/N to get a response.

My lady Y/N,

How about we meet at the local pizzeria at 7:30 pm and maybe take it from there.

Looking forward to meeting you,

Mike

Over the next week and a half, Mike and Y/N exchanged messages and it seemed to be working out well. They had exchanged photos and when Y/N saw his photos her mouth dropped, he looked so suave and refined, one of him in his crisp clean suit and the other in his baseball team’s apparel and jeans.

When Mike saw photos of Y/N he was stunned. Her long wavy black hair framed her face and her model looks made her seems totally unreal, she was tall and had curves. Could this be it for Mike Cutter, brilliant EADA and eligible bachelor?

When Connie got wind of it she raised her concern. “Mike, are you sure this is a good idea? Meeting someone you met through a classified?”

Mike looked up bewildered and asked, “I’m sure. I mean if you want you and Lupo can tail me when I get go and meet Y/N Y/L/N in a little bit.”

Connie still wasn’t sure. While she worked with him, he had become her best friend and had seen at her best and worst. She just wanted him to be safe not be misled or worse fall prey. Even the toughest of lawyers/prosecutors can be deceived.

A short time later she and Lupo along with Bernard and his date Cindy were with at the meeting place. Mike had shown them a photo Y/N and they all nodded. Each of them having an ear piece. They were sitting at a discreet distance having quality time with their significant other.

Right at 7:30 the door opened and Cindy first spotted her. She poked Bernard who then looked over and then said, “Lupo, she’s here.”

Lupo in turned looked and saw Y/N look around. He pointed to Connie who turned around and was flabbergasted. Lupo said into the ear piece, “Cutter your date’s here and she’s the real deal.”

Connie piped in, “Lupo’s right she’s the real deal. She’s gorgeous and a real looker.”

Bernard popped in, “Hey isn’t that my line?”

Connie shook her head and said, “Go for it, Mike.”

Mike turned around and saw his date. Oh my word Mike thought she’s hot. Well Mike go on.

Mike left some cash, took of his ear piece, set it on the table and made his way over.

Y/N was close enough when she saw her date. She thought Holy smokes he’s a hunk, his age only adds to his charm.

Mike walked up to her and said, “Y/N?”

Y/N shyly replies, “Hi, Mike.”

Mike took Y/N’s hand (who felt an instant indescribable connection) and led her out of the restaurant.

Connie, Lupo, Bernard, and Cindy all saw their EADA walk off with his dream girl. They could tell Mike Cutter was now off the market, for good.

-Present time: March 20, 2010-

The justice of peace was about to finish but had noticed the bride and groom were spacing out. He said, “Now I can see that both Mike and Y/N are ready to make it official.”

That comment led to chuckles and to Mike and Y/N to turn beet red. The justice of peace said, “No without further, by the powers vested in me in the State of New York, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Mike Cutter will you kiss your bride already!”

Mike smiled and did just that. He stepped forward and after placing his hands one her beautiful face pulled her in and kiss with every ounce of passion he had within in him. When they parted for air Mike and Y/N saw love in each other’s eyes shining through.

The justice of peace then announced, “Now it is my pleasure and honor that I present to you all for the first time Mr. and Mrs. Michael Cutter.”

Everyone of the guests cheered as loudly as they could. None cheered louder than Connie. Her best friend at work had finally, finally found his soulmate.

Tumblr content school: why you don’t always get notes and how to (potentially) get a bit more

So in recent weeks, I’ve seen quite a few posts floating around that centre around the same subject: content creators, mainly gifmakers, not gaining followers as quickly as they would like to and/or not getting as many notes on their original content as they would like to. Most recently I’ve seen people share their like-to-reblog ratio, with a call to users to also reblog content instead of just liking it, which would result in more exposure and recognition for the creator.

Now, while all of those feelings are perfectly valid and you’re obviously allowed to post whatever you like on your blog, the conversation around this is quite unnuanced and, at times, a bit uninformed. I’m not claiming to be some kind of expert, but having been a content creator (gifmaker) on this platform for quite a few years, with my own small share of popular gifsets floating around and having built both my own blog an two fansites/group blogs to at least moderate success, I do think I have a certain degree of insight re: getting notes, so I thought I’d put in my two cents. Please note that I’m not making this post to be condescending in any way, or even to tell you what to do/how to create content, but I thought I’d help as much as I can, based on my own experience.

Below the cut are 1. reasons why I think gifsets don’t always get the number of notes you wanted/expected them to, and 2. tips on creating and posting content in a way that will potentially get you more notes.

Why you might not be getting (a lot) of notes

So let’s start with some general trends re: gifsets not getting as many notes as you’d like/expect, and not as many as they would have maybe a few years ago.

1. Tumblr is past its peak

Based on experience, I’d say fandom Tumblr reached its peak in 2015-2016, and was riding that out in 2017. I’ve mainly been a Marvel blog in recent years, so I can’t speak for other fandoms, but Tumblr was... wild in the lead-up to and aftermath of Captain America: Civil War (2016). Wonder Woman (2017) was a similar situation on the DC side of things.

New Marvel releases (like Ant-Man & The Wasp, Avengers: Infinity War and probably most notably, Black Panther) still get a lot of traction and fandom definitely isn’t dead on Tumblr, but I feel like 2015-2016 were definitely peak years. I only recently returned from a year-long hiatus; I stopped being active in late 2017 and even then my dashboard wasn’t quite as active as it was a year before that. Upon returning here about a month ago, most of my mutuals from back in the day had also become inactive and a lot of gifmakers I used to follow were not creating content anymore.

So it boils down to this: I think it’s very likely that the amount of active users within your fandom has diminished significantly as compared to two years ago. A set that may have gotten 10k notes within a few days in 2016 might now only get half of that.

2. The URL thing

This is a sad truth, but it does seem that having a semi-canon or canon url does at least help with getting a larger amount of notes on your content. I have no tips on getting a canon url (I got very, very lucky with this one), but this is a simple observation I have from over the years. Url trading/selling has basically become a genuine business due to this - canon urls are in high demand.

More importantly, what I can say is that it’s smart not to change your url too often. Becoming a popular content creator on this platform is basically the same as building a brand - and a brand has an easily recognized name. Once you have a url you are happy with, try to stick to it for a while. When you change your url, links break on reblogs of your old gifsets, by the way.

3. The like-to-reblog ratio has always been unbalanced

For as long as I can remember, posts have gotten more likes than reblogs. If your ratio is 2-to-1 or 3-to-1, trust me, you are doing perfectly well for yourself! Again, as with my first point, this might have gotten a bit more extreme since 2016, but it’s not a new thing.

4. Popular users support each other

Obviously there’s nothing wrong with this (in fact, I love that we all support each other), but yes, in general big/popular blogs are friends with each other and tend to reblog each other’s content, which can be discouraging for smaller or aspiring content creators on the platform.

However, please be aware that these big blogs built up the following they have by posting content for years and it just takes time. Also, know that most users on here actually really enjoy being tagged in your posts - so if you gif a movie or tv show you know a popular user (that you follow) likes, tag them in it and if it’s high quality content (I’ll touch on this later), they’ll probably reblog it.

Tips on getting more notes

Alright, on to part two: my personal tips on getting more notes. These are strictly based on my own experience, and as a repeat of my disclaimer earlier: I am genuinely trying to share my knowledge; none of this is with the intent of being a condescending know-it-all.

1. Don’t look like you’re complaining

No matter what the intent behind your post about your lack of notes and/or followers is, it’s very likely you’re going to come off entitled or ungrateful. I’ve personally unfollowed multiple users who post consistently about reaching their next thousand, who make angry/frustrated posts when their followers don’t increase as quickly as they’d like to, when they lose followers, etc. I understand that the hustle is frustrating, but posts like these are really quite annoying for your followers; you’re complaining about followers you don’t have to followers you do have, who are then more likely to unfollow you because it looks like you’re complaining. Your mutuals might understand why you’re posting this, but others probably don’t.

When it comes to posts about like-to-reblog ratios, which I’ve seen a fair few of recently, please consider a couple of things.

When you ask people to reblog your post instead of liking it, you are essentially telling them what to put on their own blogs.

A lot of users on here have carefully curated content; while some users simply blog about everything they like, others stick to a certain set of subjects/movies/tv shows. If they see a post they like that doesn’t fall into those categories, they’ll give it a like to keep track of it and show their appreciation, but won’t put it on their blogs. You can’t tell people to reblog something they don’t want to.

You’re essentially asking people that you do not really personally care about to do something for you. Most of the likes you get on your post are likely from people that you do not follow yourself. I’m not saying that you hate your followers or don’t care for them, but you can’t really ask anything of a user that you don’t even follow yourself.

Look at it this way: Tumblr is basically a mini society, with its own market in the form of content creation. The ones who have a few thousand followers, and who get a few hundred or a few thousand notes on their posts are already the lucky ones. If you’re a user who gets hundreds/thousands of notes on their posts (even if it’s not as many as you like or deserve), you should keep in mind that the vast majority of users on here are small blogs that don’t have the traction that you have. If you post a screenshot of the like-to-reblog ratio on a post that has 2k notes, they’re going to think, “what on earth are you complaining about?”

Posts like these can really only backfire. I don’t think it’s likely that a lot of users will suddenly start reblogging instead of liking because of them. I know those posts are getting traction, because your mutuals and fellow content creators understand your frustration (believe me, I do too!), so they reblog/like/comment on it, but you’re essentially in an echo chamber of content creators. Anyone outside of that circle will not understand it and might unfollow you because of it.

2. Quality

Another disclaimer: I’m not implying that the people who have made posts about notes/followers don’t make HQ gifs. This is simply the “tips on getting notes” section of this particular post, so that’s what I’m doing. Veteran gifmakers can skip this section because I won’t be presenting anything new here.

Here’s the thing: high quality gifsets get notes. I know that what constitutes a HQ gif is subjective, but there is a consensus on this amongst big blogs, so I will summarize it below.

Make gifs from high-quality video sources. If 1080p is available, use that. Don’t gif from videos below 720p. Also, the larger the t*rr*nt file, the higher the quality. If a 1080p t*rr*nt from a movie is under 2GB in size, it’s probably not decent enough to gif from.

Use the new dimensions. Tumblr changed from 500px to 540px over 3 years ago now I believe, and all the big blogs use these dimensions. I rarely see sets like this anymore, but some users do still hold on to the old dimensions. Obviously, you should do what you like, but know that you’ll get more notes if you make the switch.

Do not skip frames. If you use screencaps, extract 25 frames per second. If you are an ‘Import video frames to layers’ kinda gal, like me, import all frames.

Sharpen your gifs! It makes an insane difference. My faq section links to a sharpening action.

Your frame delay should be 0.05. If you have a low amount of frames, you can get away with 0.06, but do not make your gif any slower than that. It will look unsmooth.

Go for natural coloring, where you simply brighten up the gif and enhance the colors (beware of whitewashing tho). I know that using PSD’s from resource blogs is tempting, but it’s very likely they will not work for the particular scene you’re giffing. It’s best if you learn to color yourself and adapt your coloring for every set. Also, it’s up to you what you think is pretty, but extremely vibrant and extremely pale coloring isn’t very popular anymore. Natural is the way to go. (This is with the exception of those gorgeous color edits people have been making recently. Y’all are queens & that shit is hard to make yo!)

If your gif is larger than the 3mb limit, NEVER sacrifice colors in the ‘Save for web’ window. Always delete frames to lower the size of your gif.

Just saying, but Photoshop CS5 has been known to make the best gifs.

For beginners out there, please don’t be discouraged. I’ve been making gifs for years, and they were absolute shit in the beginning. It just takes time to learn, but if you stick to it, you’ll get there.

3. Concept over quantity

Allow me to draw a comparison with YouTubers here - I think we all prefer YouTubers who post one well fleshed out video a week (for example, Safiya Nygaard) over YouTubers who post an okay video every day.

I think a lot of users think the way to get notes and followers is to post a gifset every day. This probably does work to an extent, but I personally think it’s better to come up with original concepts that you post every few days.

When you watch a movie, you can make five gifsets out of scenes from that movie, or you can come up with a concept. For example, parallels between scenes, parallels with other movies, the best lines of a certain character, etc. This takes more work, but sets like these are highly appreciated because they’re original, and they tend to get more notes.

This doesn’t apply to new releases, as you are probably among the first to gif a particular scene, but if you’re giffing a scene from a movie that’s been out for a while, you’re very likely not the first to do it. People will see it, realize they’ve already reblogged something very similar, and keep scrolling. But if you come up with a new idea, that’s what’ll get you more traction.

To give you a personal example; I recently rewatched all of the cap films. Now, I could have giffed popular scenes like “I could do this all day” or “I’m with you ‘til the end of the line”, but that’s been done before... a lot. Instead, I came up with this, and got 6.5k notes. I haven’t posted that many new sets on my blog recently, but posting content like that has gained me some followers and new mutuals.

4. Timing

All this requires is keeping an eye on your dashboard and taking note of when most of the people you follow are online. I sometimes see European content creators posting their sets smack dab in the middle of the day. Lemme tell y’all something: the Americans are sleeping.

I’m in timezone GMT+1. My dash wakes up around 5pm. I never post before 6pm - I’ll post anywhere between then and midnight, so feel free to convert that to your own timezone. The scheduling feature on posts comes in handy if you’ll be asleep or at school/work around that time.

If you post when Tumblr isn’t active, your set will drown in all of the other content, so be smart about timing.

5. Strategic tagging

It seems that a lot of users still don’t know this: only the first five tags on your post show up in tags on Tumblr. Anything past the first five will only be useful for your own tagging/archiving system, but will not show up in any tracked tags.

So first point: always use the most prominent edit tag for the fandom you’re posting in. Examples are #marveledit, #hpedit, #filmedit. These are frequently used, and often tracked by big blogs.

Second point: figure out who the big fansites/group blogs are, and if they track a tag, tag them. Make sure you follow them, obviously. If your post is funny, you might wanna tag bob-belcher (#bbelcher) as well - this blog is popular across fandoms and posts content from all over!

Third: tag users who you think will like your post. Don’t be thirsty with this. Again, only do this if you follow them. Tagging 2-3 users is ok, but don’t be out there tagging 8 to 10 blogs on your post. Not only is that a little pointless (because only the first five tags will show up), it also makes you look thirsty. Users might not appreciate this, and ultimately might not reblog your post because of that. Also, try not to tag the same users on every single one of your posts.

6. Popular content

If your fandom is niche, so is your content. That’s perfectly fine; don’t feel pressured to post about anything that isn’t your passion.

But if your goal really is to get more notes and followers, create content from fandoms that are big on the platform. Examples are Marvel, Harry Potter, Star Wars, film blogs, etc.

7. Join a fansite/group blog

Every big fandom on Tumblr has one or multiple fansites/group blogs. I recommend you figure out who they are for your fandom, and apply to one that’s accepting new members. You’ll likely get in if your gifs are HQ.

I know this sounds a bit counterintuitive, as you’ll be posting content on another blog that will be getting the notes and followers from it, but it actually is a good way to gain more exposure. These blogs have large amounts of followers, and they usually allow you to reblog your own content to them, as long as you’re active. I think it’s a great way to get your content out there.

Alright, time to wrap up this post. I’m not personally calling out anyone who has made posts about followers, notes, like-to-reblog ratios, etc. I’ve seen at least 15 of those posts in recent weeks so I’m just reacting to a trend I’m seeing, by presenting a potential solution to a problem people seem to be having.

My last tip is this: if notes and followers on Tumblr are making you feel down or frustrated, maybe it’s time for a little hiatus or a step back. In the end, you are not getting paid for this and your popularity on the platform has no bearing on your real life. This is supposed to be a fun outlet for your passions and interests, not a source of frustration and anger. Don’t take it too seriously! You’re doing amazing sweetie.

A/N: I am kinda of surprised by the amount of people enjoying the story, but thank you for the support.

After reading the little message left for you, you end up napping through the rest of the weekend. It isn’t until Monday that you really get any solid food in your stomach, as you try to slowly go through all the messages and emails left for you, and while most of them were congratulations and well wishes, you just wanted to hurl your computer out the window. You hadn’t been lying to Carter Baizen when saying that the office team was one of the best, hell Nick had saved the former CEO countless times over with his maths skills, but now that you thought about it -- not all of them had the best personalities, sometimes you hated Harold and there were times you wanted to stick a pen down Marcy’s throat.

You weren’t sure if the suffering you were going to be going through now was worth them still going on and treating each other --and by extension you-- like they did. You were having buyer’s remorse over helping them, and you couldn't help the mixture of anger and guilt that bother you for the rest of the day.

It isn’t until Wednesday that you finally hear from Rocio, as she is standing in front of your apartment door with a short pixie cut and dressed in pure Dior which obviously cost more than everything in your small apartment. She has a bottle of wine with her, but you can smell that she has already started drinking long before that, but you welcome her in anyways as you end up ordering some of your favorite Salvadorian food from down the block and proceed to tell Rocio about everything that she has missed during her mysterious hiatus.

“ Fuck him ,” is all she says after you done and you can’t help but choke on your food.

“W-What?” you cough out before taking a sip of the bottle water from the coffee table.

“I don’t mean it in that way, silly,” she lets out a bubbly laugh from her place on the loveseat, as you shake your head. Rocio always had a way with words.

“I’ve known you long enough to know that you only ever mean it in that way,” you state, reminiscing of all the advice Rocio had ever given you and knowing by now that it usually ended up one way.

“Well, whatever. What I mean is: fuck over that white boy,” she says with a predatory grin as she gets up, making a speech out of it like Robespierre in front of the Jacobin Club, “Show him you ain’t going to break just because he thinks you’re his new plaything, or because you might be scared of what he can do -- that isn’t the you I know.”

“And how am I going to do that?” you question, as she looks down on you with her bright green eyes. In her element, Rocio could remind anyone of her father as she came up with plans and dealt out sweet words to close the deal.

“The Cinderella Effect, my dear,” she explains, as she goes back to sitting down, but not before grabbing another pupusa, “Rich people always think poor people want handout, that’s why they’re all Republicans, but you’re gonna work your ass off and show him who’s the boss.”

“And once that happens?” you asks, ignoring the faults and obvious signs that she hadn’t really worked a day in her life either.

“Let’s take it one step at a time, sweetheart,” she finishes before taking another gulp of her drink, “But, first new wardrobe.”

“I don’t want you paying for anything,” you remark as she frowns. Even after ten plus years of friendship, it felt weird using Rocio’s money that way and she knew that, though there was always little loopholes she found, like that dress back at the party.

“I know , we’ll go somewhere cheap like Macy’s or TJMaxx ,” she lets out those vile words with a roll of her eyes.

“Are you sure this is gonna work?” you can’t help but doubt her, something always went wrong in the long run, she was a big picture sort of gal.

“Have I ever steered you wrong before?” she smiles and the answer automatically falls from your lips.

“Yeah, Montreal.”

“We don’t talk about Montreal,” she quips, waving her hand back and forth as if trying to dispel a bad memory, “And I was talking about more recently, you don’t always have to be stuck in the past, doll.”

“Part of my butt is still stuck on that frozen street, Roci,” you mumble in annoyance, as she doubles over remembering what had happened all those years ago.

“I know, I know,” she says after controlling her laughing fit, as she gives your that soft grin that you can’t help but return -- if only Rocio had the hindsight to know exactly how well her plan would work.

A couple of days, three shopping sprees, and a nearly maxed out credit card later you and Rocio were a little proud of the wardrobe you had put together and once Monday rolled in you were healthier and in a nicely fitted navy blue blazer and pants ensemble. A little new makes you feel like you can take on the day, as you banter with Nick once more in the elevator.

Everything is fine until you hit your office and see the large pile of paperwork piled on top of your desk. You open the door and almost let out a groan at the handwritten letter on top of it all.

Welcome back. Have these ready by the end of the day. -- CB.

“He’s gonna be a real slave driver, that one,” Nick says with a shake of his head before giving you a sympathetic smile and leaving.

“That’s the least he could be,” you whisper into your empty office and roll back your shoulders before starting the work day, which you know it going to be a long one.

It’s half way through the first month of working for Carter Baizen, filled with a lack of sleep and dreaming about numbers, that he calls near the end of the work day -- that he needs you in his office. And for the first time since he took over Wyman, you’re standing there in front of his desk as he puts on his jacket. You raise an eyebrow, as he simply motions you to follow him.

“As much as I would follow blindly the next person, you need to tell me where we’re going, Mr. Baizen,” you exclaims as blue eyes look at you with amusement, “Just to let someone know if I end up in the Hudson.”

“You can only be paranoid of someone for so long,” he states with a crooked smile.

“Still paranoid of you,” is all you say on the matter, though it makes him laugh.

“It’s a charity event for the company, nothing but donors,” he explains as you nod and follow. A black car waiting near the entrance of the building takes you near the Rockefeller Center. You keep eyeing him suspiciously, as you enter a large but empty ballroom. You turn to look at him, as he smiles.

“And the event?” you question.

“In a month’s time, so you have plenty of time to figure it all out,” he declares, as you turn to look at him with surprise written all over your face. It almost makes him laugh right then and there.

“That isn’t part of my job description,” you counter weakly.

“Well, I’m the boss and for now on it is,” he laughs a little towards the end before pushing all the paper in your hands.

This was going to be a long month.

Some nights are filled with sleepless nights while others you can sleep a little better with everything you had done for the day, between playing different events on top of your data work you barely see Rocio -- barely have time to for a social life. However, you don’t break -- you refuse to cry and quit (because you know that’s the underlying motive to his cruelty) a job that you loved so much. Every other night you signed off another pile of work on his desk or send him pictures of another well done step towards the big charity event for the now-Baizen/Wyman Co., immaculate and with a smile.

His face never shows his true feelings, but you hope it bothers him deep down.

“ Fuck him ,” like Rocio had declared the last time you saw her.

On the night of the event, you are wearing a simple white blouse and black skirt combo. You aren’t here to enjoy the night, but rather to make sure that everything is going well -- running around with smiles and making sure that everyone is having a good time. It feels like your first job out of college, pleasing everyone was the curse of retail. The night is a rush for you that you don’t notice someone watching you the whole night.

‘Thanks to all of you we have exceeded our goals for the 3rd year in a row,” Carter Baizen declares from the stage upfront, turning up that deadly charm of his in his dark Giorgio Armani suit, as the rest of the guests clap -- patting themselves on the back. Blue eyes roaming and taking a secret glee in seeing the old men praising his “philanthropy” were the ones that once used to laugh and sneer behind his back.

However, his eyes stop near the back for a single moment, as he watches you talking to some staff with a tired smile on your face and your hair in slight disarray but everything else is on point, and if Carter didn’t know any better, simply by the aura --confident and exact-- he could automatically tell who was running this event. As much as he hates to admit, you had gone above and beyond all his expectations in the past two months.

In the moment, he doesn’t why he does it.

“However, none of this would have been possible without my wonderful employee ,” he points to you as the spotlight finds you immediately, “In the back!”

Everyone turns to look, unsure of what to do but clap, as he grins though unsure if it is out of arrogance or something else. You blink for a moment, confused as to what is going for a moment before giving a bright, red lipstick matted smile to the crowd and taking a small bow. Your eyes meet his and you keep smiling, tired but proud, and something gets stuck in the middle of his throat.

And in that moment, Carter Baizen was fucked all right.

This is so stupid, but I can’t think of any AUs off the top of my head, but this so: I would love to see a scooby doo type TRR AU fic, like MC, Hana, Maxwell, Drake, Olivia, Liam, and Madeleine solving mysteries together for different nobles, and Madeleine always tells the noble who hires them “there are no such things as ghosts.” And Maxwell gets Hana to believe in ghosts and they’re basically the scooby shaggy duo or Maxwell/MC/Hana. And Liam and Drake are like Daphne and Fred who sneak away together to make out. And Olivia is basically Velma and does all the hard work while everyone fucks around and she’s always like these mother fucking morons. And Penelope is their first customer and Kiara sits there with her head in her head shaking her head.

Are you really not going to see Captain Marvel because of what Marvel does? What happened to you championing woman, like you did with Wonder Woman, or do you just like to only stand up for Gal Gaodt

you are so dense lol

I will not see captain marvel in theaters because a) that movie’s going to probably be the highest grossing movie that year, maaaaaaybe coming second to wonder woman, with or without my 9 dollar ticket. and b) I will not support a company that doesn’t give a shit about my people. I haven’t seen a Marvel movie in theaters since the winter soldier, and the only movies I’ve seen since then are AoU, civil war, spiderman and black panther, all of which were watched illegally. The only movie I will pay to see from here on out is Black Widow, because ScarJo is a Jewish woman.

I support Wonder Woman because the actress is a Jewish woman, and I genuinely can’t remember the last time I saw a movie that actually did decent with a Jewish woman as the main character. DC shows that she firmly is the heart and soul of the Justice League, something I wish I could say about Natasha when it comes to the Avengers. Plus, the Wonder Woman movies don’t whitewash anyone LOL

So yeah, at this point I’m really only supporting DC, because they’ve already slated a wonder woman trilogy, an aquaman trilogy, and at least one flash movie. It took marvel 10 YEARS to give someone who wasn’t white a solo movie (sans RDJ, but for the sake of this since everyone considers him white INCLUDING marvel, he is not included). It took them 11 YEARS to give a woman a solo movie. DC did it in 3 for a cast that was more nonwhite than white, and 4 for a woman-led movie. And that’s including the 3-year hiatus break between MoS and BvS/SS where no movies were produced.

And side note, normally I would give DC the kiss of death for whitewashing jewish characters too, but birds of prey is going to flop just like suicide squad and margot robbie is going to ruin any chance of harley coming back all without my constant bitching. So.

Hello my angel, I know you're on hiatus but this is for when you're ready 💖: PASTRY/ DESSERT CHEF DAVID!! Just imagine this gentle giant replicating flowers and animals on strudels and with icing. This could go two ways 1) David could be working at a high end restaurant and is the dessert chef there. His love interest is the girl training under him and is awe inspired by how delicate this bear can be in the kitchen.

OR!!!2) Davi runs a bakery much like Jacob in Fantastic Beasts in that he makes his treats in the shape of animals and nature. His girl visits the bakery almost daily not only to see him blush when she orders her usual but in hopes of hearing him speak. Love you very much and I wish you all the best 🌺🌹🌸🌷

can you just imagine a small, fresh out of culinary school gal, so nervous on her first day at a big five star restaurant, the real deal, haute cuisine? and she walks in to the hectic kitchen, orders flying around like paper airplanes through the various stations and over stovetops and counters and serving platters, and in the midst of it all is this very quiet, very, VERY big man who looks better equipped to be a plongeur or delivery person than to be doing such delicate work as he is doing.

david is intensely focused on very daintily piping little sugar flowers onto a forest made of choux pastry and light, airy sponge cakes, with molded chocolate animals like deer and a tiny timber wolf running in between the foliage. he’s so lost in his own little world, forging it out of sugar and flour and love and care, that he hardly notices the small woman coming to stand just behind him, admiring his light strokes and incredibly deft hand movements.

he has his sleeves rolled up to his elbows, showing a number of culinary casualties (sugar burns, knife cuts, etc; the general dangers of kitchen employment) and his hairy forearms, thick fingers and rough palms. no one would ever imagine that such gigantic hands could be suited for such intricate, fragile work. yet here he is, the head pastry chef.

when he finally notices his newly appointed protege, it’s because she speaks to him as he slides the finished plate towards one of the servers, nodding to signal that he’s content enough with it to relinquish it to a patron.

“that is the most beautiful sugarwork i’ve ever seen,” she says softly, which makes a shiver run up and down david’s back. he’s not used to recieving verbal compliments, much less out of the blue in such a way.

he turns around and goes rigid, blushing all the way to his ears. the new girl doesn’t understand why, but david does: he has never seen such a pretty woman in all his life, and especially not one who has complimented his work in such a sweet way. her tone conveyed sincerity in a way that he wasn’t accustomed to, so he goes tense, red in the face.

from there, well... it’s a kitchen. the heat and tension is always high, hmm?

if david were to run his own bakery, he would ADORE the creative freedom and the homey attitude. he likes kneading the dough and working his long hours because it gives him purpose, and he adores seeing people smiling and enjoying his food. when little children giddily consume the sweets he’s prepared, he feels warm and happy inside, or when he can provide bread at either a significantly reduced rate (or entirely free) for impoverished people, he feels like he’s fulfilling his purpose.

david is a giving, helpful soul, who loves nothing moer than to share and bring happiness. what he never expected was for all the love he puts into his confections to come back to him in such a... such a... stunning, beautiful, sweet way.

the first time she walks into his bakery, he tries to play it cool. she must be someone’s wife, shopping for bread for her house and home, or sweets for her children, friends, lover, perhaps... he tries to ignore her and focus on shaping the buns into little bear cubs, but every time he blinks, his eyes open and have wandered back to her form as she surveys the still-warm loaves of bread, of as she bends over to inspect the glass cabinets of delicate chocolatier work and macarons (he’s been practicing a wider array of sweets, lately, and people seemed to be enjoying the blackberry black-bear macarons...), and he can’t help but flush when she approaches the counter to ask him if he does this all himself.

Truth and Justice

Justice League

So as many of you may have noticed I stepped away from my tiny excuse of a review site and put my attention into other things. I did this for a couple of reasons, many of which came down to my displeasure with Hollywood and some of the decisions that they have made toward filmmaking and the things they produced. I strongly believe that if Hollywood were run by the fans, the films that we would receive would be DRASTICALLY different. But then again, maybe it is one of those ‘be careful of what you wish for’ moments, because fans of film go into film and my generation is the one running Hollywood right now…so maybe that is why we have what we have…I don’t know. Anyway, I have decided to return because I miss all of you and I just can’t keep my opinions to myself anymore. So what better film to come back for than the return of Sup...er…the Justice League.

But first, a bit of news...Jude Law (The Young Pope, Sherlock Holmes) will be joining the cast of the upcoming Marvel heroine film Captain Marvel with Brie Larson (Free Fire, Room) in the titular role. Apparently, Law will be playing the love/mentor Doctor Walter Lawson. Okay…um sure. Not really anyone I would expect to be in a movie like this, but at this point I think everyone we have ever seen on the big screen is going to be in a superhero movie. So…it’s whatever.

Second, Netflix has extended the hiatus on their hit show House of Cards. With everything that is surrounding actor Kevin Spacey right now, is this a shock? I’m sure that Netflix is going to distance themselves as much as they can from this (rightfully so, mind you) and try to push more of their other original content. I was on Netflix yesterday and they buried this show on their original content page and have a blurred image of Spacey. So don’t count on a wrap up on Frank Underwood’s time in political office anytime soon.

Lastly, as boring as subject to me is, box office numbers are in for the holiday weekend and Pixar’s newest entry, Coco, takes the top spot with today’s reviewee Justice League coming in second. I just thought that this would be a good lead into my review.

So with the DCEU being a virtual letdown, with the exception of Wonder Woman, I was very hesitant going into this film. Anyone who knows me personally knows the great distaste I have for the film named Batman v. Superman and just the poor execution that director Zach Snyder did with it. In his defense though, Snyder did a great job with the Batman scenes but not so much with everything else. Here we are, a year and a half later and I don’t really think that anything has changed. Ugh!

The plot of this film is extremely basic, so much so to the point that most of the film is filler to where and what the ‘team’ needs to do. The hastily assemble team of The Flash (Ezra Miller Perks of Being a Wallflower), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot, Wonder Woman), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), Aquaman (Jason Momoa Game of Thrones), and Batman (Ben Affleck Argo) have to stop the villainous Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds Game of Thrones) before he and his Parademons destroy the Earth. The filler of this movie is wasted on very small subplots that go NOWHERE! Aquaman is an angry drunk for some reason, Cyborg taking over the brooding from Batman because he doesn’t look like the other kids, and Batman having a crush on Wonder Woman; all of this stuff just seemed like afterthoughts to what the filmmakers really wanted to get to.

As far as acting goes, everyone is good except for Affleck and Cavill. Miller is great as comedy relief, Momoa surprised me with his take on Arthur Curry, and Gadot shines has Diana Prince. Then there is Cavill and Affleck…then tent poles to this whole party. I’m going to write all of this off as studio tampering but Affleck’s Batman seems weaker and not has menacing almost like the death of Superman made him second guess who he is and what the Batman stands for. Affleck mentions that he has a new outlook towards everything because of what Superman stood for, but they toned him down almost to the point where I thought little comic bubbles were going to pop out every time he hit someone and Burt Ward was going to show up in his Robin costume. Along with Affleck, Cavill just seemed like he was somewhere else and the reverted his characterization of Superman too far to the left and it came across cheesy. I am glad that the writers heard our complaints of BvS, but this was too much. I wish they would have gradually toned it back so that the transformation wasn’t so obvious. With the exception of the digitally removed mustache on Henry Cavill (which look horrendous btw), the effects in the film where fine, but nothing of worth noting. I thought the choice of blue lightning for The Flash was an interesting choice. As a comic book fan however, there is a giant gaping hole as far as the team goes and that is with Green Lantern. The film does give mentions of the Lantern Corps, but no real mention on where they are for this particular fight. Last thing for my complaints is why is everyone in this movie shouting out every other person’s secret identity? Minor Spoilers: In the beginning of the film, Curry does it to Batman and in the middle of the film Lois screams out “Clark” as there are a few witnesses to Superman’s reawakening and he is flying around. I guess they don’t find it as important in the film universe compared to the comic universe.

As I read back over all of this, I do want to say that the movie wasn’t total garbage. I did enjoy the action sequences, the awe of seeing some of these new characters debut was partially worth it, and I did have a decent time with this movie. I hope that DC and Warner Bros. find their Kevin Feige (head of Marvel Studios). I think that there is so much untapped potential when it comes to this universe and with rumors of Affleck leaving and The Flash movie being Flashpoint (where the Flash goes back in time to rest the entire DC Universe), I am hopeful that this is reset and done right the next time. Wonder Woman is the exception to the mess that is DCEU because it had remnants of Richard Donner’s Superman film and as corny as this sounds, of hope for the cinematic universe. DC and Warner Bros are so far behind in the Expanded Universe cinematic game that I can’t fault them for trying to catch up. They just need to learn from their mistakes better and maybe step away from the vision that Snyder started.
