Everyday i think about this screenboard scene that got semi-scrapped from Donnie vs Witch Town, like it just explains so much about Donnie as a character and i’m very sad we didnt get to see it entirely

I sat down and read Howl's moving castle a few days ago, and now I have an aching brain rot for these characters and need to read the next two books to fill the void in my heart.

#honestly that book was wild #i'm still trying to articulate how i feel about these characters but dear god i love them all #honestly i think a big factor into why i liked the book so much is something about it felt like a 'cozy adventure'#a majority of the book really does take place in the castle and during those parts nothing felt boring- it was comforting in a way #i don't know #all i know is I'm gonna get my hands on the next two books and have a reading marathon #for now i'm going to read The Princess Bride because I'm not ready to get into the horrors of Blood Meridian #howl's moving castle #reading #books #booklr

Okay—~⭐️!!

I promised I would share about some of my AU for Dr. Starline-or, how things could have gone a bit earlier in his life, and even though I’ve decided to rework a few things to make sure I’m making the story as good as I can make it, here’s a bit of it.

(…WHO AM I KIDDING, THERE’S A LOT OF IT.

But please give it a read anyways! I promise it’s good!)

I don’t really have a name for this AU, yet (if anyone has any ideas, please let me know!) but it takes place before the IDW comics, probably by a few years at least.

⭐️ Premise: Dr. Starline enters a competition of inventors and innovators with the hopes of using it to gain Eggman’s attention, and finds something there that he was not expecting to.

As I have it, Starline is not quite the level of mad doctor we see of him from the comics quite yet.

He’s still poised and a lone wolf, sometimes trying to mimic Eggman in his way of thinking, but hasn’t reached the level of “try to murder hedgehogs with a bomb” or “Operation: Remaster” yet.

So.. still redeemable.

At this point, he’s already attempted to get the Doctor’s attention multiple times over the years, but has had little luck each time. However, this completion has a big tech name backing it, and he expects Eggman will be closely paying attention to it as a result of it. A perfect opportunity to get him on his radar.

While there, he meets Rivet, a sly and energetic cat inventor who he seems to naturally click with. And over the course of the prelims, a surprisingly friendly rivalry grows between them to get into the competition and win the top spot.

⭐️(Side Note: This is because Starline’s not too worried about losing to her, but he admires her tenacious spirit considering her origins were largely non-technological.)

Unsurprisingly, they both get in, and it’s announced that those who made it in are now going to have to form teams. Of course, Starline— having his ego, as well as a reluctance to work with others due to his upbringing being comprised of him being bullied and treated poorly for his interests—isn’t thrilled.

But, not ready to give up his dream yet, he does his usual, “What would Eggman do?”, and decides to team up with people who he thinks might have the most potential and be the easiest to manipulate into doing what he wants.

⭐️ (Side Note: He does not have his hypno glove at this point! That would make things too easy.) (.. Despite him probably having it before the warp topaz in canon. MOVING ON!)

This lands him on Rivet, her brother Charge, a tiny rat named Hex, his bulldog friend Lug, and a firefly named Cello.

Starline assigns himself as the leader of the group, due to his elevated knowledge and experience in the three fields they’re working with— robotics, chemistry, and biology. But as he attempts to get them on board to.. essentially let him run the whole show, tensions and conflicts quickly mount as they begin to push back.

At his wits end after a few days of arguments and fights, he ends up confiding in Rivet and Charge to ask for their insight, seeing as they themselves have been a team for a very long time. The Amp Twins explain to him what teamwork actually is and how to accomplish it, which Starline realizes is a completely foreign concept to him because he’s always worked alone.

Despite his ego hating having to make sacrifices to get this team to work, Starline gives in and takes their advice by changing his tactics. Tracking the team down one by one to talk to them and try to understand why they’re fighting him.

To his surprise, it works! He lets them express themselves and in doing so, discovers that.. these people aren’t so different from him. All of them have great skill, but have been hurt in a similar fashion as he was, and are here, just trying to accomplish their dreams.

The conversations make him sit with his thoughts. He empathizes with them. Encourages them, because that’s what he himself wished someone had done for him. And.. while the depth of his reasoning for doing so is still very much selfish and because he wants to win, he still finds he’s also being.. genuine.

Needless to say, he reluctantly gives up some control to let the others bring their ideas to the table, and his plan works. They all end up working.. surprisingly well together, and even end up teaching him a few things.

Huh. That’s new.

Over the next few weeks that pass, Starline slowly grows more and more relaxed, softening up around the edges as he experiences what having a good supportive group of like-minded people around him is like.

They.. appreciate him. They.. respect him. They treat him well.

And he’s.. not used to this. Not used to people wanting to hear his ideas. Not used to being able to have scientific debates with someone who understands what he’s saying. Not used to being dragged out of the lab by a cheerful purple cat to join her and the others for a dinner in the town. Not used to his smiles being real.

By end of the competition, they’re all quite close as a team, working together in comfortable tandem.

Starline at one point even admits to himself that he actually would consider the group to be.. his friends. They make him feel welcome and appreciated like no one ever has, which is—at the depth of who he is as a character—what he has always wanted and yearned for.

But.. there is still the matter of Eggman.

One thing I want to establish very firmly is that, while Starline opens up more to the others and has moments of being a genuinely sweet person, he is still very much an Eggman fanboy whose dream of working by his side one day has not disappeared.

This is his struggle. His Achilles heel, so to speak.

Because throughout the whole competition, Starline never actually tells the group WHO his inspration is.

They know he has one. They know that’s why he’s here; to gain the attention and recognition of the man by winning the competition. They’ve heard his excited rants about this ‘genius’ and all the brilliant and inspiring things he’s done.

But they don’t know it’s Eggman.

At first Starline keeps his fascination on the downlow, only because he knows he’ll be working with people in the competition who have been affected by the Doctor, and doesn’t want to sabotage his chances of winning. But as he meets the others and gets closer and closer with them, it becomes more about fear and guilt.

He doesn’t want to admit it— Him? Afraid? Guilty?? Never.

But.

What if they were to find out? They’d turn on him for sure. He’d get dumped by the group, just like before when he was growing up. Shamed and left isolated and alone.

Again.

By getting too close, he’s caught himself in a trap. He’s torn between two different lives he could lead. He finds himself slowly beginning to question which one he wants more.

It makes him hesitate when they ask him to form an official team with them after the competition is over. Prevents him from being able to be as open and honest as he might like. Keeps him from being closer to Rivet like he knows they both want.

And even though they know there’s hesitation there, they (particularly Rivet) never stop trying to reach out to him.

Eventually though, the truth does come out and he has to finally make a drastic choice..

…But I think I’ll leave that bit for next time ;)

"Asher?"

The cafeteria lights were half-dimmed, revealing the little boy sitting at the front table.

He looked up. "Talia?"

"What are you doing here?" I asked.

"What are you?"

"I just needed water. And I had a nightmare, so I don't want to head back to bed," I replied. "You?"

"I'm upset," he said, looking down at the table, his fingers interlocked. He had red lines around his eyes.

My gut twisted. I already what this was about.

I walked over to the water filter in the corner of the room, pulling a plastic cup from the stack that sat on top. "Do you want to talk about it?"

He bit his lip.

"You don't have to if you don't want to," I said, filling my cup with cold water.

"It's Cillian," he blurted out, voice cracking. "He's gone. Like, I know those guards said he's gonna come back tomorrow, but I feel like they're lying. And I don't wanna lose any more people. They already took my dads away from me, they already took away all of my friends at school, and now they put me here where I only have you and Marie, since Cillian's probably gonna be gone. And then, what if they take away more people? What if they take away everyone and then I'm alone, and then I won't know what to do? I already hate this place, I already saw so many things I don't wanna see, and I don't wanna be left by myself. I'm just so scared and —"

His words were cut off by an abrupt cough, choke, and a heartwrenching sob. He buried his face in his hands, hiccuping between breaths.

Just seeing him cry triggered a lump in my throat and stinging at the back of my eyes. With weak legs, I sat down next to him and placed the cup of water at his side. Maybe he would need it more.

"I get it. I'm scared too. We're all scared, but Marie and I are gonna stay. We're not going anywhere, okay? We'll be fine. We hate this place too, but…" I swallowed. "Maybe… maybe we'll get out, like Marie was saying earlier. Maybe we can do something, maybe someone will do something, and we'll be free at some point. This isn't forever…"

Did I scream or cry at myself? Was I serious right now? I was telling more empty lies just to comfort this poor kid. Saying things even I didn't believe. Would Marie and I be okay? My gut said no. Was someone going to step up and 'do something about it?' I refused Marie's offer to escape PowerGen less than twenty-four hours ago, because I failure who couldn't help with jack shit, or else I'd fuck it up again. Who was going to free us from PowerGen? Nobody.

Nothing good was going to happen, so why the hell was I still pretending like it would?

“Hey!" a deep voice boomed through the air. "What are you two doing back there?"

I whirled my head over my shoulder, just in time to spot the cafeteria's slam shut behind a rugged security guard and one guant, pale, death-looking Chancellor Janson.

"Asher." Janson sighed. "This is your eighth time this week. How did you get into the cafeteria this time?"

Asher had looked up, trembling as tears continued to roll down his face. “I-I'm sorry, I'm sorry —"

"No you're not, kid," spat the guard, the dim light reflecting off his name tag which read: Jackson.

His eyes locked onto mine.

“You. What are you doing here?”

am starting to think that there is nothing less helpful and correct than the manuals for fiber arts tools

#the manual for assembling my spinning wheel was 1) wholly incorrect on several counts #2) in direct conflict with the instructions on the video they linked to #3) the instructions in the video were also incorrect #we literally just had to figure it out ourselves bc following the directions wasn't even POSSIBLE #well. coming to a similar problem with the directions for this loom #trying to string the harnesses. it is not working #also cut up all my nice handspun cord only to find that the measurements they provided are not correct #in retrospect should have tried them before cutting them all to length so thats on me #but i am so frustrated #the rest of it went together ok #i think i am gonna put this away for now and try again on my next day off #my sister cant figure it out either which is how i know we're really screwed #might work on building a warping board. got the wood for it today while at home depot looking for parts #of which they had none and sent me on several wild goose chases around the store #has not been a good day so far

my dad’s doing an amateur radio competition which is great for him and all, but the interference from his radio keeps crashing my computer and im in a Bad Mood

#today i was gonna finish the frostback basin and do the arbor wilds #and possibly finish the whole game because there’s not much after that #but it’s a 24hr competition so. fuck me.#the speed at which i got mad probably means it wasn’t gonna happen tho. i should have a nap or something #but on the note of this playthrough and getting it done…..i REALLY want to do the full game including all dlc #but idk how i’m gonna force myself to play trespasser. like it’s fun; that’s not the problem #but the point of this run is to get achievements and the only one left for this run is taming the dragon after the arbor wilds #im gonna have to push myself to finish the game after that (hence doing all the main game dlc before that)#idk if i can keep pushing through trespasser. not when i have plans for the next run #i don’t think i’ll be doing much other than the main quests for the next run tho and i’m fully accepting that before i start #i’ve just gotta play through on nightmare for the last 2 achievements #like i’ll do some side stuff to level (esp since i won’t have trials so i can actually over level)#but even if i wanted to i don’t think i could do much; i can’t play dai twice too close together it’s too much #im just determined enough about the achievements that i can probably do it #personal #ok i don’t KNOW that the last crash was because of the radio; it was during the horrible despair demon fight on the island #which (in addition to being VERY HARD) is also VERY gpu-intensive so maybe it just crashed naturally #but the radio did randomly crash my second monitor a few times this week and also crashed slay the spire a few hrs ago #so i think it’s reasonable to assume it played a part here. either way it IS crashing things
