#then read a pro arya fic

Note
Hi, I've recently discovered your fic and I absolutely love it! I'm currently reading chapter 8 and Aemond's list is such a great idea. He reminds me of Arya, but your version of him is even more interesting and likeable imho. Just one thing, I believe that the bastards born in KL/the Crownlands are called Waters, so the names of Aemond's nephews on the list would be Jacaerys and Lucerys Waters, not Rivers. This is not a criticism or anything, just a tiny detail a nerd like me noticed😅. Anyway, I'm in love with your writing and would like to know what is your opinion on Alicent in HotD. Her interactions and characterization in SWHHW is just what I imagined her to be as a mother, especially to Aemond after the eye loss. As for the show, I mostly liked her characterization until episode 8 and the whole "you'll make a fine queen" thing. After that I had mixed feelings about the route they decided to take with her.
Also, how did you get introduced to Rhaemond? Hints from the show, Tumblr...? It is an interesting ship with a lot of potential, but sadly not as popular as some others, at least not yet. Thanks in advance for your answer and for giving me something good to read:))
Nerds together, strong!
(sorry x1000 for taking so long to respond. Exams are done but I picked up an eyestrain 😒 This was half-answered in my drafts for a week? Very sorry.)
Criticism is fine! It's good! I mean, I would love 100% total praise, but I am honestly amazed that people love this. My ego is well pleased. 😅 Thank you (and everyone) for reading! Like, I would love to say that I write for the simple joy of it, but no. Readers make it worth doing.
I will confess that I didn't research this properly. I went with Harwin Strong > Riverlands > Rivers, but yeah. I've been out of the fandom for a minute and did not think it through. I have to edit this when I'm done so hopefully I remember to fix it. Will make a note.
My view on Alicent... Honestly, I'm almost at a point where I feel like any criticism of any non-Rhaenyra character is unfair because imo the writers aren't actually trying to create characters, they just contort everyone else to fit whichever role they need for Rhaenyra's plot, but okay, pros and cons? What I like versus dislike?
She's too apologetic, for one thing. I like the green dress scene, but it's so rare to see her show some teeth. I get it, that she really doesn't have all that much power, especially after Driftmark when she's watching her husband try to get their son to snitch on her so that he could have her tongue cut out, or have her tried for treason or killed or set aside or whatever Viserys was angling for in that scene, but I still wish she had a more proactive personality. More like Cersei, Catelyn, Margaery, Brienne, etc.
No way is Catelyn being gaslit into apologizing for being angry that Bran got pushed through a window, you know? Cersei might apologize but she'd also probably leave half the city blind by the time she's done getting her vengeance. I wanted some of that.
Half the fandom hates her for wanting Aegon on the throne instead of Rhaenyra and my problem is that she's not doing enough to make that happen. Everyone's living the grimdark life, playing the game of thrones, while she's a high fantasy damsel queen. They make her a sort of 'Trapped In the Wrong Genre'/'Not Built For This' character like Sansa and it's kinda hard to watch tbh.
I mean, she's more of a Good Wife™ than Alicia in the actual show named Good Wife. Rhaenyra wants to put Jace on the throne, and presumably Daemon, the family serial killer, would want to have his own son take the throne, either way, all Alicent's children and grandchildren will have to be killed to fully secure the throne since Westeros plays by Best Claim Wins but also Keep What You Kill rules. Why isn't she leading the charge to prevent that?
From her perspective she has witnessed the destruction of House Velaryon. Laenor, Laena and Vaemond dead, Baela and Rhaena, Daemon's own daughters disinherited and dismissed for Luke, the boy who cut her son's eye out without so much as a slap on the wrist. What does she think is waiting for her children and grandchildren under Queen Rhaenyra, King Daemon and then King Jace and Master of the Tides Luke?
It's not like she doesn't know how Rhaenyra feels about her children. When someone calls for your still bleeding child to be tortured - there's not a lot to misinterpret about that. Fans can be like "No, that happened a whole episode ago. Get over it! She meant to say gently questioned with cookies and tickles! Rhaenyra would never!" but Alicent isn't supposed to be a fan of Rhaenyra in the show.
Post time-skip, she's like “water under the bridge” when only minutes ago they were accusing her of poisoning the king. You cannot "water under the bridge" your enemies throwing you, your father and your children into highway traffic at every opportunity.
It's like they wrote her to be the show's butt-monkey. Daemon and Viserys literally laughing at her when she's just trying to be cordial, Rhaenys of all people gets to give her that "you have failed feminism" speech, Rhaenyra gets her “now they see you" moment...
Not even sure if butt-monkey is the right trope. She might be more of a Chew Toy? I don't understand why they're this determined to make her a permanent victim. With Sansa, there was the sense that she was being punished in a way for getting Ned killed, for being naive, childish, etc... Ned gets punished for his rigidity... People get "punished" in asoiaf world, but it's like Alicent's being punished for "seducing" grown ass Viserys? For not buying in wholesale to her Hightower inferiority and the natural order of Targaryen supremacy?
I don't understand the desire by the writers and the showrunners to keep kicking a character who is down and has never been up.
When you have one opponent being OP, the other one is usually powerful in some other equivalent way. Like superman has physical power but Lex gets social power and genius intellect.
Dr Manhattan is near omniscient/omnipotent but Ozy is smart enough to plan for that.
You would think it's supposed to be Aegon v Rhaenyra because they're both Viserys' Dragonrider children who stand to inherit, but S1 is entirely Alicent v Rhaenyra where Rhaenyra has
physical power in a dragon,
political power in being the named heir and Viserys' clear favorite with Corlys in her pocket,
childbirthing power (5 sons to Laena and Aemma's 0, and Alicent's 1, 2 or 3 depending on how you count it), and
social power with Daemon and Rhaenys killing for her without hesitation (or repercussion). Even Baela who barely knows her eagerly wants to go fight for her.
What does Alicent have to balance it out?
Instead of giving her the cunning tactician card, they make her dependent on Larys the Clubfoot with a Foot Fetish™
Tumblr media
God, I'm ranting again.
I hate how Laena was written too, as a "Daemon's trying his best" Good Wife™ but it's hard to think about them as actual characters outside of simply being Rhaenyra's foils so of course I had to fix it up a little in swhhw.😅 It's mostly a fix-it fic for Rhaena, but if I were doing one for Laena or Alicent, I don't think Rhaena and Aemond would have even been born. I'm talking about serious murders from Day 1. 🤣 As soon as Aegon was born, we're going directly into a Queen Regent Single Mom Era and Vhagar is being fed on pedigree prince meat.
I hate HotD with the passion of a thousand sons, but I have a soft spot in my heart for the black characters and the ND/disabled/maimed characters.
Alicent already had my empathy from the beginning. I don't nail pick, but I hair-pull (BFRBs are a bitch) so, it's near impossible for me to be on the side of the Kool Kidz laughing at her, just personally speaking, regardless of how inconsistent/incoherent she's written.
I try to really avoid a lot of the discourse on hotd because of how ableist it is, but you still see so much of it. All the r-words thrown out for Aegon and Helaena, all the eye jokes on Aemond and the idea that Alicent has inferior/disabled children and grandchildren who should be killed... Like, in 2023, it's just sad that this is still a thing, but I'm always going to be team weirdos (endearing).
And being Team Rhaemond... I have a longer post where someone else asked me about it but it generally boils down to Tumblr and AO3. Basically:
The fanart on here... The Aemond fanart and headcanons are hilarious. Rhaena fanart is harder to come by but it exists.
The dinner staredown gifs. I completely misread that scene. I honestly thought Aemond was looking at Rhaena because I thought the kid was Joff. (I am moderately faceblind and I couldn't really tell them apart on first watch). I was also just kinda generally confused by how they were all sitting down to dinner to feast after Vaemond's murder earlier that day.
Rhaena's is painfully underwritten. I've never seen a character more in need of fanfiction than Rhaena.
This pic: (not mine, I just found it on Google but the original has Aegon in it. it's like a fanart "cover" of a real behind the scenes photo of Ewan and Phoebe and Bethany... )
Tumblr media
The lack of Daemon-free Laena fics. I went to AO3 looking for Laena fics but I can't read Daemyra. I tried, but I can't and maybe 90% of Laena fics are actually Daemyra fics, so to avoid that I had to filter out daemon and Rhaenyra so I was left with nothing. And then I tried Baela, but they were only Jace x Cregan fics with more Daemyra. And then searching Rhaena led me to Rhaemond, and there were like 20 fics or so and I read them all, and then I came here for more fics but realized that between the Sirius Black tag and the Velaryon Strong!Reader tag and Visenya lives/Daemon's OC daughter that it would be near impossible to get an actual black reader, Velaryon reader, Rhaena, Baela or woc OC fic, and I was like "FFS, how did this fandom get worse? This is 2023!" and I decided on shipping rhaemond out of spite.

Do you realize those fics you recommended are very pro Sansa and very anti arya horse-face right?
really? I read some of these a long time ago, I don't remember exactly if there was something like that, sorry

I wish it wasn’t so damn hard to find fic that positively portrays and gives good arcs to Dany, Arya, and Sansa.

A Short List of Daenerys Fic Recommendations
Everything is on AO3. Used the authors ratings, and marked explicit fics. Some are anti-Sansa and some are Jonerys. Read the tags in case I missed anything, and mind them more than my notes. Bolded favorites.
Multi-Chapter
Awake - If the North does not want to be ruled, she will not rule them. Dany returns south, and the North faces the dead. [Love Cersei in this. Eventual Jonerys, anti-Sansa]
be yourself my ally - Sansa knew well enough that beautiful things were never beautiful beneath the surface. [Dany/Sansa]
in my end is my beginning - The North is ruled under Queen Sansa Stark while the remaining Six Kingdoms are ruled by Queen Daenerys and King Aegon, but what happens when the Queen in the North realizes that the Dragon Queen may have ultimately beaten her? [Jonerys, anti-Sansa?, show!Sansa]
Night Gathers -Daenerys grapples with the kind of ruler she wants to be. Jon uncovers and understands the truth. Arya seeks home. Sansa clings to the ladder. Jaime struggles for redemption. Theon strives for honour. [Jonerys, anti-Sansa, read the tags]
Queens Always Have the Last Word - Dany says the things the writers refused to let her say. [Jonerys, anti-Sansa, Rated Explicit]
Stormborn and the Black Dread - AU. Daenerys is born a few days later. While Viserys is brought to Essos, his sister remains trapped on Dragonstone by the great storm that will be her namesake. Unknowingly to her dying mother, the Princess is born with great powers. A witch hears her wail and seeks the babe out. [Crossover, Jonerys, recommended for premise, Rated Explicit]
Strangers Again - Daenerys dies Queen of the Seven Kingdoms with her lover's dagger in her heart. She wakes a Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea with her children in her arms. [Dany/Oberyn, Essos heavy]
The Bells but Better - Daenerys doesn't want to be the queen of ashes. Jaime might actually have a plan. Jon has an active role in the plot. Cersei never earned redemption. [Jonerys]
The Mad Kings - Joffrey's not as frightened of his handless uncle as he is of the monstrous one. Tywin chooses between the Baratheon Crown and the future of Casterly Rock. Across the Narrow Sea, Mad Aerys' daughter seeks the Iron Throne. [pro-Sansa, Dany & Arianne, Arianne/Aegon, unfinished series, strict book AU, read the tags]
Winter Came (With Fire and Blood) - The White Walkers are dead, but there are other ancient dangers in Westeros. [Jonerys, 3ER feature, the author writes sorrow so well]
Single-Chapter
a fleeting moment - Sansa is used to liars. She knows how to read them. [Dany/Sansa, Rated Explicit]
a thousand butterflies fall into the fire - The next time she weds, she will be the bride of the dragon, reborn from the ashes of all that was burnt away with the coming of Daenerys Stormborn, and there will be no want of things for them to sing of. [Dany/Margaery, Rated Explicit]
and now the loyalty of wolves - After Jon Snow betrays his queen, Drogon takes her North to Winterfell. [Dany/Sansa]
Daughter - It's a daughter. Not a son. Not the Stallion Who Would Mount the World. AU! [Dany/Drogo, female!Rhaego, soft AU]
I think we deserve a soft epilogue, my love -When Sam comes crying that Jon is the true king, Jon says more than "she's my queen." [Jonerys, Jon POV]
Kiss The Boys And Make Them Cry - Dany is not convinced that Jon is Rhaegar's son, and she does not believe that Aegon isn't an impostor, but she marries them both to keep the peace. [Dany/Jon, Dany/Aegon, Marriage of Convenience]
The Dragon and the Rose - Daenerys Targaryen now sits on the Iron Throne. The Tyrells decide to come for a visit, to convince her to marry one of their sons. But she only has eyes for their daughter. [Dany/Margaery]
to hold moonlight in your hands - The quiet moments history will never know of Sansa and Daenerys finding love in each other, had she gone to Dragonstone in Jon's stead. [Dany/Sansa]
Trust Fall - Atop the wall Missandei faces death, makes a choice, and takes a leap of faith. [Missandei POV]
Vigilance - Daenerys Targaryen does not enter the throne room alone, in a city she has just set ablaze. Instead she enters with her son, for who can love a dragon but another dragon? [past Jonerys, read the tags]
Rhaenys bonus
The End Crowns the Work - Ned Stark reached Elia and her children first.

Tag Game
I was tagged by @hopefullystillliving, thank you so much! 💚
Three ships: I don't necessarily have favourite ships, I'll read anything as long as the summary is good and I like the style of writing :D My list of Tolkien fic recs illustrates that perfectly, I think.
First ever ship: Eragon/Arya from the Inheritance Cycle
Last song: "Lothlórien (Reprise)" from the LotR Musical
Last film: Does Anything Goes count? It's a pro-shot and was shown in cinemas, after all.
Currently reading: The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri
Currently watching: nothing? I'm busy with my Top 50 Musicals list...!
Currently consuming: I'm eating a cookie, does that count?
Currently craving: ... more cookies
Tagging @dearest-darlingest, @herlaqueen, @adotcunningham, @thewomaninlilywhite, and @denise8691 if you feel like doing this!

I was reading your tags about how Catelyn and Elia could be friends in a modern au and I’m often shocked by how many fics that are supposedly pro Elia are so filled with Catelyn hate. Honestly that just tells me their fondness for Elia is entirely dependent on how they think she would treat Jon. And their perception of that comes only from Barristan saying she was kind. There are some Rhaenys and or Aegon live fics that I immediately have to drop because of how anti-Catelyn they are. Maybe this is a controversial take but I think you can’t claim to be an Elia stan if you hate Catelyn for her treatment of Jon.
I agree. As a massive fan of both Elia and Catelyn those fics make me roll my eyes so hard because it's very clear that the only thing they want from a female character is to roll over and be Jon Snow/ Rhaegar Targaryens/ Random Dude X's doormat. And it's based solely in sexism. Suggest to anyone that Catelyn should have been able to bear a bastard, and bring it to Ned, and force him to live in the same house as that child while Ned was a perfect father to them and people will look at you like you're crazy. But somehow suggest the same thing about Catelyn raising Ned's illegitimate child and its completely fine.
See the thing is people often say they want complex female characters but they don't. They want saints who never do anything wrong, never have a single bad thought, and never EVER do things that are "unfeminine" like failing to mother a child.
I think its also why there are so many arguments about how "motherly" Sansa/Daenerys/Arya are. Who the hell cares if they're motherly or not? They're 10-15 years old. They don't NEED to be motherly what they need to do is sit down, have an adult take the reins, and be given a warm blanket because they've all been through some shit. I never see anyone suggesting that Jon Snow would be a terrible father....which actually would kind of make sense given the fact that he separated Gilly from her son and threatened to burn that child alive. Where are my "Jon is clearly the devil because he's going going be a terrible father" takes huh? They don't exist because as female characters are held to a different standard than male characters
Lastly Im not the final boss of fandom so people can not like Catelyn while liking Elia whatever that's their perogative. But if the reason they don't like Catelyn is because she doesn't act like mother of the year towards Jon then I'm a bit suspicious of that.
I'm also going going put it out there that I dislike the general concept of stanning because it results in the smoothest brained takes ™ where people are totally unable to bear any discussion that requires an ounce of brain activity. For an example of this see the targ stan who went on a DoRnE iS SOuThERn EuRoPeAN rant at me thinking I was dissing Daenerys when....in actual fact I was talking about how fanartists often draw the Starks as non white and how it's messed up that people will use ethnic aesthetics because they look cool while sometimes completely ignoring the (often terrible) treatment of non white characters in text.
So I wouldn't really describe myself as a stan except jokingly. That's just my opinion though and I get stanning Dorne and Elia. They are really cool and stannable

a theatre au overview + disclaimers and ahh
hey guys! this is gunna be my first post with the taglist i’m super nervous fhghdfh
this isn’t a fic- sorry guys! i’m working on them though. i just wanted to give a quick overview and i’ve also begun to notice that i’m gonna have to tw tag these and i’d rather be safe than sorry so this is just me checkin to see if everyone’s fine with me continuing to tag them in this particular content. if you read this through and find that you don’t wanna be tagged anymore, feel free to ask or dm me and i’ll remove you from the taglist, i totally understand and i don’t wanna accidentally squick or trigger anybody.
the theatre au includes: quite a lot of eating disorder discussion, one character has orthorexia and another has bulimia but they both get help in the end. as most of you probably know, my post about this au that got popular was about how this started as a simple au but became a lot more than i was expecting and i was originally just going to write a one-off theatre au royality fic as a vent fic but then i threw analogical into the mix and now i might be adding dukeceit and there’s a lot of wips i’m workin on right now lol. so some are more focussed on the e.d discussion than others but all my wips that i have so far feature it in some way. i kept numbers to a minimum (no discussion about weight at all but there’s like one part where a character guesses how many cals are in a food fhfdh that’s all right now) and there’s absolutely no pro-e.d content in there at all. either way, i just wanted to let everybody know because i know it’s a tricky subject (it is for me lol) and if anybody no longer wants to hear about it i really do understand.
that’s about all for the heaviest topic i wanted to address? there’s also panic attacks and stuff and angst in general but i’m putting in some humorous moments as well (examples include: remus being himself). but apart from that, i’m working on it! writing’s only a hobby for me and i’ve only been able to write so much lately because of quarantine and like i said e.ds can be tricky for me so it might take me a while to actually post any fics cuz i can’t write too much about them too often but when i do i hope you guys all like it <33 thank you all again sm for the support! tag list is below the cut
theatre au taglist (dm or ask to be added/removed!)

this is an oc masterpost of all my haf-formed ocs languishing on pinterest with their messy aesthetics and unedited blurbs, in roughly chronological order of their creation, plus sorted by fandom. this post is only asoiaf, harry potter, hunger games, and riverdale, cos i have tooooooo many original characters otherwise and the post was getting incredibly long. (note that i love my ocs but these one’s are not polished or even the final versions of their characters, i just wanted to post them lol)
under a read more, if you’re on mobile start scrolling i guess, sorry,,,
Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire:
Laeya Targeryen: (child of Rhaella and Aerys Targaryen, born 280 AC - three years older than Danaerys)
Fearful of her impending marriage, Laeya is eleven when she takes her younger sister and flees across the sea to Dorne, hiding herself and Dany with dyed hair and badly controlled magic. As Leia and Dani Sand they learn to live normally. At 15 Leia joins the Royal Guard and secures Dany work as a tailor's apprentice. When she is 17, an assassin tries to kill her in front of the Dornish court and everything changes...
- so laeya straight up has magic, which im considering an extension of the dragon thing dany has - she can control flame and for the disguise uses her ‘inner fire’ to make her eyes white-blue like super hot flames, cos the purple eyes are super distinctive. and then she’s discovered and suddenly politics are happening. honestly she’s entirely a way for me to remove the child marriage bits of the targaryen storyline (stop marrying off your twelve-year-old baby sister viserys u asshole) - in terms of meta/basics, laeya doesn’t have a fc cos most of my early ocs don’t, and bcs i picture her as emilia clarke with faked dark hair and blue eyes lol
and a quick aesthetic below:
Tumblr media
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kyrra Snow: (child of Robert Baratheon and Maery Snow, birthdate ???)
Kyrra Snow is the eldest natural-born child of Robert Baratheon, current King of Westeros, and daughter of Maery Snow, a Southron (but Northern-born) merchant woman. After her mother realises Kyrra was growing up a little too much like her father in looks and needed to leave the far South before she caught the wrong sort of attention, Kyrra was sent off to travel with her aunt and cousins. She is 17 and heading further north, to Winter Town, when Jon Arryn dies.
- kyrra’s another child of everyone’s favourite asshole king, and she’s got a lot of people after her head, but she just wants to travel and continue her work as a simple peddler. (riiip poor girl) honestly she’s not that developed but yolo -
aes:
Tumblr media
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Brynn Stark: (child of Catelyn and Eddard Stark, Robb’s twin sister)
Brynn believes in honour and family, and she is loyal to Winterfell and the North above all else. Likes - archery, embroidery and weaving. Betrothed to [some young Northern lord] to keep the bonds between the Norther families strong.
-i basically made brynn as a contrast to sansa’s pro-southnness and excessive femininity and arya’s anger and desire for swords (relatable mood tho lmao). so brynn is here to mediate, extoll the virtues of both needlework and weapons, make a decent marriage to someone she likes, if not loves, and hold down the fort in the North while shit gets increasingly messier in the South. and a possible faceclaim is Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey -
aes:
Tumblr media
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rosienne Lannister: (child of Joanna and Tywin Lannister, born 273 AC)
Rose is looked at by the realm with dismissal, a consolation prize for her father, a spare daughter only useful for matchmaking, but at least able-bodied and pretty, unlike her brother. After a long betrothal, Rose is married to Willas Tyrell at the age of eighteen, cementing her role as the next Lady of High Garden...
- Rosie/Rose is a bonus Lannister, bcs why not. likes cyvasse and the harp, soft and kind and maternal, powerful in her own way. originally she was from a minor divergence where joanna survives tyrion’s birth and goes on to have another kid, but not sure if i’ll keep that aspect, so for now she’s tyrion’s twin -
and her aes (yes that quote is cropped, no i don’t care rn):
Tumblr media
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
honourable mentions to my other got underdeveloped got/asoiaf ocs who need more effort before i post properly about them:
Tamlen Storm, a rookery apprentice (working for the Maester of House Tully, managing the ravens) who may or may not be a reincarnated si-oc trying to save westeros,
and an unnamed northern huntress who stumbled into the plot somehow and wants her normal life back (entirely inspired by Keira Knightley as Gwyn in Princess of Thieves, when she’s doing archery stuff and looking v butch).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Harry Potter:
Taurus ‘Ara’ Lestrange:  (child of Bellatrix and Roldolphous Lestrange, born 1978)
Raised by the Goblins after a legal mix-up following her parents' imprisonment in Azkaban, Taurus is good with a sword and aiming to be the next Minister of Magic. She attends Hogwarts with the other magical kids her age, under the fake identity Ara Burke, unknown cousin of a minor half-blood family. When the Potter brat’s drama starts destroying her change at an education just as her fourth year, her OWL prep year, begins, Ara intervenes.
- im tangentially aware that as bellatrix’s kid she’s almost occupying the place of whats-her-name from the cursed child, but considering that i know nothing about the cursed child and don’t care about it anyway, i have elected to ignore this. her actual parent might turn out to be some smitten half-blood from a minor branch of the Greengrass family, or it might actually be Rodolphous, who knows. slightly inspired by the fic ‘Harry Crow’ (by robst on ff.net) where harry is raised by the goblins -
messy aes:
Tumblr media
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Valerian Potter: (child of Lily and James Potter, born 1980)
After the Potter twins’ parents are murdered by Voldemort, they’re dumped on the doorstep of Number 4, Privet Drive. Dealing with two traumatised magical orphans, Petunia and Vernon Dursley turn to violence and neglect to stay in control, acting far more harshly than expected. With the arrival of two Hogwarts letters, life gets complicated incredibly quickly. (Self-sufficient and scarred from abuse, Val and Harry are immediately Sorted into Slytherin).
- val’s fic is basically an angst fest, okay,,, -
aes:
Tumblr media
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
and shout-outs to: holly addison potter, a half-baked reincarnation si-oc (i love that concept a lot, can u tell) and my fav girl thea dursley, who already has her own fic and so isn’t getting a proper spot in this post
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Hunger Games:
Asher: (District Two, age 18)
[rip no blurb for asher]
-asher is a career from two, who wins the 70th games. mostly im focusing on her recovery and how the games function in two, with training volunteers and mentoring and collecting sponsors, plus eventually the rebellion. lots of the D2 headcanon i have is inspired by @/lorata but i defintely made a distinct effort to have my own stuff, cos where’s the fun in plagiarism -
aes for Asher’s Games:
Tumblr media
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  Rowan Everdeen: (District Twelve, age 19)
Rowan will do anything to protect her family. This extends to going to Head Peacekeeper Cray on a cold winters night, charging the most she can get for her virginity.  It extends to Reaping Day, when she steps out in front of the crowd and says “I volunteer as tribute” in the steadiest voice she can muster.  It extends to clawing her way out of the Arena, bloody and exhausted, with blades in her hands and violence kept tucked behind her teeth. It extends further, to a simple ‘Yes, President Snow’ when he coldly, carefully implies her family might meet with an accident if she doesn’t play the good little Victor (and fuck the people who pay the Capitol for her company). It extends to joining the Rebellion, to looking President Coin directly in the eye and agreeing to be a Mockingjay, a symbol for the people to rally around.
- another everdeen kiddo! as the big sister, rowan volunteers for prim, and goes through the Games - she’s a healer and a hunter, and a decent enough actor that she can manage interviews and a camera presence, unlike katniss. rowan also pairs well with a minor au i have, where the reapings are spaced out over a week and official training is a longer, giving the capitol a nice, long buildup to get excited and place bets, etc., and giving the poor, underfed tributes from the outer districts a better chance, which makes for more interesting television and better Games -
Tumblr media
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Adrasteia Crane: (The Capitol, age 28) Unlike her big brother, Adrasteia doesn’t want to be a Gamemaker. Instead, she wants to create clothes, artwork, to enrapture the Capitol. She wants to be a Games stylist. After years of design school, of working her way up the ranks, first a PA’s assistant, and then fetching and carrying for Twelve’s prep team, and then eventually on a prep team for the dull tributes from Six, Adrasteia Crane finally has what she wants - the position of stylist for District Three’s male tribute in 74th Hunger Games.
- tbh adrasteia is only seneca crane’s sister because i couldn’t think of a suitable last name for her lmao. i think i’d actually prefer her to be unattached to any major canon players. however, his death is a good motivation for her to join the rebellion, so we’ll see. she’s got a bit of the capitol fashion thing going too, with soft pink hair and diamond-effect skin on her face and shoulders -
Tumblr media
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
also bonus hunger games content: another oc, Sarsaparilla Verran, from District Eleven, fifteen and alone when she goes into the Games. An orphan, her siblings lost to the Community Home system years ago, her relatives dead or uncaring. So, Rilla is a wee lonely bab tbh. she did not want this, unlike most of my other hg ocs, and she’s not excited for weeks of murder. she just wants her family back, but since that isn’t possible, she’ll build a new family instead. and uuhhhhh,  spoiler alert, she dies before she can have this ://///
and my hunger games aus - a canon divergence where katniss joins the careers instead of peeta, her desire to go home to her family outweighing her reactive hate for the concept of training/volunteering to kill other teens, and a fem!Haymitch au where she’s a little wiser to the dark side of the capitol before she commits acts of rebellion (she still rebels anyway tho, just smarter).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Riverdale:
Cat Cooper: (middle child of Alice and Hal Cooper) Cat Cooper (17) is the black sheep of the Cooper family. Her piercings, brightly dyed hair and connections to the Southside Serpents make her the odd one out among her sisters and constantly at odds with Alice Cooper. Cat’s life is occupied with her Serpent friends, work at a local coffee shop, and training - martial arts, supplemented with cross country, gymnastics and swimming. Until her older sister is shipped off to places unknown and her baby sister starts getting caught up in murder investigation with the absent Serpent heir...
- haven’t decided between Catelyn or Catherine for Cat’s full name lmao. she used to be Kit, actually, but I changed it cos i prefer Kit to solely be my divergent oc (kit serafim). Cat is an ADHD disaster who loves her sisters and her friends and wants to get the hell out of Riverdale on a sports scholarship (she does either boxing or karate mainly, need to figure that bit out) -
Tumblr media
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Georgie Andrews: (child of Mary and Fred Andrews)
Georgie likes soft drinks, cheerleading, and hanging out with the Blossom twins and Polly Cooper, their closest friends and a welcome distraction from their own problems. After Polly and Jason vanish, Georgie’s support system is almost gone, and they has to deal with everything they’ve been bottling up, just in time for Fred Andrews to get shot.
- also just angst ngl.  so georgie’s gender is basically ???, they enjoy cheerleading and not much else. they spend half their time dealing with depression, by trying to ignore stressful/hard topics and focus on the good side of everything. this isn’t a great long-term coping mechanism and has the fun side effect of pissing of the people around him when she seems unable to be serious or empathetic to someone else's pain (bcs she’s too busy deflecting for the sake of her own fragile mental health), so it gets fun when fred is shot and archie starts getting in too deep with the lodges -
Tumblr media
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sera Thornstone: (parents ???) Southside Serpent. Going to the Riverdale Community College and running errands for FP Jones. And secretly meeting up with her Ghoulie lover down by the Sweetwater where nobody goes.
- everything about sera is vague and undecided lmao. but she has a ghoulie gf/bf/nbf? and they’re hiding that they were down by the river on the 4th of july, cos a serpent is an immediate suspect. going to community college to work on getting general credits before saving up for fancy school for law or journalism. the aes isn’t entirely accurate cos sera’s built from the remains of another serpent oc who i scrapped (she does have a baseball bat tho) -
Tumblr media
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
and honourable mentions to jen johnson and octavia blossom-murphy, my other riverdale ocs who actually have content, plus an in-development unnamed oc who gets adopted from the soqm by the Muggs family and growsup with Ethel. and my riverdale role reversal au, which i will never write but have some nice aesthetics for under the tag wip: bughead role reversal au.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
all my mini-aesthetics here are unsourced images/from pinterest. any similarities to other people or characters, living or dead, is entirely coincidental.
alrighty that’s it. now i have to tag this behemoth argh

I’m about to go full-on petty mode. So if you don’t care about my personal gloating and back-patting, scroll on by lol
This post contains spoilers for episode 1 of season 8, and also spoilers for my fic The Lone Wolf Dies.
I recognize this post is really only for me. I’m a salty bitch.
Tumblr media
This is fanart the wonderful and lovely @cathcacen drew for me when I was at my lowest and receiving the most hate I’ve ever gotten for a fic.
I ranted about it for a bit, deleted the worst of the flames I could off of FFN, and I haven’t actually been back to FFN since this all happened. Don't think I havent noticed the love and support I got from the JonsaFam, either. I very much appreciated it, and I know many people enjoyed my fic (and are begging me to finish it...).
Here’s some highlights of the comments I received on FFN accusing me of being “unrealistic” or of committing “character assassination” (sad thing is, these aren’t even the worst reviews I got):
“Arya would never let Sansa or the Northern Lords do that to Jon[...]This story is making Jon a bit of a wimp and Arya willing to betray him even though she loves him more than Sansa.” [saphirablue25 on chapter 1]
“Another story about Jonsa, and Anti-Dany, and pro-norte and pro-stark? these crap stories are becoming common since season 7.[...]and this kind of stories, without any artistic or literary value, just deserve to be vilified. is just another excuse to be myopic and criticize character without reason, especially when it is already something practically canon that Jon / Daenerys will be in the books too, as one producer of the HBO series said, who was told George Martin. waste of time.” [flayjunior15 on chapter 1]
“this story is rubbish, more crap without sense…” [guest on chapter 1]
“This is character assassination. Arya Stark would never betray Jon Snow; no matter what;[...]Of course now it’s a Jon and Sansa pairing ignoring everything that happened in season 7 b/c why not?[...] The leaps you Jonsa writers take to mischaracterize daenerys just b/c you’re not getting the ending you want in the show or the books is a little ridiculous. You can’t write a story that’s based on show-canon and then ignore all obstacles presented in said canon just to put your two favorite characters together. That’s not how good storytelling works.” [FanofLogic (lol) on chapter 1]
“I don't think Arya would ever betray Jon, it's just not plausible.[...]There are gaping plot holes, that need to be seriously addressed, the writing and the punctuation are fine, it’s well spaced and makes sense in a linear sense, but in terms of plot and story, it crumbles to dust before you even finish reading the chapter in its entirety.[...]I don’t want to stop you from writing, that’s not my intention, you just need to sit back and ask yourself, if it really makes sense.” [carpenoctem20 on chapter 1]
“Well, I read your story. It is sad really because your writing style is good and enjoyable but the stupidity of your character's actions[...]Too bad, your writing is promising but the story lacks logic…[...]Also, thank you for butchering Arya’s character - she is my favourite and you completely ruined her.” [malb901 on chapter 1]
“I realize that this story is an AU because our characters are written not how they are portray in television or books…” [GUEST VIII on chapter 1]
“If your goal was to write Arya completely out of character and Sansa as a short sighted idiot with the northern lords as her peanut gallery...then good job. Otherwise your characterization needs a lot of work.” [guest on chapter 1]
“Arya...well how she is written is so absurdly offbase from canon you would have been better off write my that part as an of to avoid having preconceived about the character.” [guest on chapter 1]
“What a load of complete garbage. So much character assassination across the board is an injustice to GRRM’s work!” [guest on chapter 1]
“Another junk Jonsa story, I see that many of these losers, are very salty, because their crackship (because that’s the Jonsa, a crack) shipwrecked last season.[...]The author of this story is another salty loser with no sense, just like all the Jonsa fans of this crack ship.[...] even Arya has a stronger relationship with Jon than with any member of her family, she would care less about the North, even threatening to kill the Northern Lord, if they hurt Jon. Only two idiots of Jonsa, defend this story.” [JonsaSucks on chapter 1]
“Highly questionable characterization and plot holes big enough to fly a dragon through...pass” [guest on chapter 2]
“With Arya, she's so OC in this that it would have made more sense to make her a new character. She would never choose Sansa over Jon.” [saphirablue25 on chapter 2]
“So disappointing! This story is a complete disservice to anyone who is not a blind Sansa worshiper.[...]The plot holes don't do you any favors either.” [Zmrzlina763 on chapter 3]
“Poorly written, plot holes, unrealistic” [guest on chapter 3]
“What a pile of crap. So many plot holes and character assassination. You should be ashamed to publish such garbage.” [guest on chapter 4]
“I hated this story...thought it was really ridiculous.” [guest on chapter 4]
“I would highly recommend rereading GRRM’s work as it’s obvious you are basing your characterizations on contrived reimaginings with no basis in the work you claim to be a fan of. Please do us all a favor and quit polluting the fandom with this nonsense.” [guest on chapter 4]
And finally, for the piece de resistance!
“Oh boy that story became retarded real quick” [guest on chapter 1]
Now, I might be biased but my brain kept pointing out similarities to the first episode of season 8 and my fic - which I never claimed to be writing what I thought was really going to happen, but that this what I wished in a best case scenario would, my interpretation of all the info we got from Season 7, and it was always only ever supposed to be a Jonsa one-shot but it kept growing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, one of the biggest complaints I got was “character assassination” - saying that the characters would never behave the way I wrote them to. This is mainly what I want to focus on as clearly the fic is not exactly the same as the episode - and I never expected it to be. Fanfic is fanfic for a reason. For one, Sansa and the North refuse Jon and Dany, and that's kind of the catalyst to everything else that happens in the fic. Thats a big change - so I’m not saying “My fic was exactly like the show!!” I just wanted to point out all the moments while watching the show I was like “See! I didn’t assassinate anyone’s character!” since that’s apparently a crime I was committing against all of fandom.
If you haven’t read the fic, I highly suggest you do since many of these quotes are small snippets taken from a bigger context.
All the text is from my fic, the pictures are the moments I thought were similar from the show.
Daenerys had chosen to forgo her dragons to mount a horse instead, as a show of equality and peace to the Northern people.
Tumblr media
The Hound, Sandor Clegane, rode beside them, seemingly reluctant to be there, in his own way.
Tumblr media
“Greetings,” she announced. “How gracious for you to meet us.” Though her words were not sweet - they never were - and she measured the air between the two parties cautiously.
“You’ve traveled very far,” Sansa responded, her horse shifting impatiently under her. Her voice did not waver, and it carried loud and clear across the void. “It would be rude of me to not turn you away personally.”
Daenerys remained silent.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“We know no King, but the King in the North whose name is Stark.” Lyanna Mormont bellowed from her own steed. Her eyes were glowering, stern and furious. Not little Lyanna…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“First the Wildlings, and now a foreign whore,” Lord Glover spat, his horse just as wide as he was. “You’re not a Northerner. You’re anything but.”
Tumblr media
He looked to Sansa for an answer. Surely Sansa would not leave him to the wolves. Yet she avoided his eye.
Tumblr media
“I missed you too, Jon…” she called back, and his heart knew that she meant it. “But Starks stick together. I know that now. What would Father think?” His heart broke. If only they knew…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jon had warned her. He knew before heading to Dragonstone that the Northerners were not likely to kneel to a foreign ruler. Sansa had said so herself many times. He resisted the urge to gloat, to remind the Dragon Queen of his words.
Tumblr media
“Sam?” he whispered. Surely he must be imagining it. Sam was here? In Winterfell? The round man came stumbling towards him, his arms waving madly by his sides to catch Jon's attention.[...] The two clasped each other in a strong embrace for a moment before Jon pulled back. [...] “Gilly?” Jon asked absently. “And the baby?” “They're fine!” Sam answered, finally with a dim smile. “They’re here.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Arya . Oh, Arya! She’s safe. He frantically grabbed her, sweeping his hands over her hair and face, feverishly kissing the top of her head, thanking the old gods that she was here. Thank the gods his little sister was alive. She had wrapped her arms so tightly around him he could barely breathe.
Tumblr media
“You leave him alone!” Arya barked, running swiftly down the hall towards them.
Tumblr media
“Don’t you understand what this means, Jon?” Sam insisted. “You’re the heir to the Iron Throne.”
Jon didn’t care about that. Not now. Suddenly everything he thought he knew was a lie. His father- no, his uncle... had lied to him his whole life. This meant that Daenerys was his aunt by blood. And Sansa was his…
He suddenly felt very ill.
[...]Everything tasted bitter to him now. Everything he had ever known was a lie, but oddly, it made sense. Eddard had gone south to save his sister and had returned with a child. It made sense. How - how - had he not seen it before?
[...]People die and stay dead. That was a fact. Unless he had believed more lies than the one his uncle had told him his whole life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He had traveled on horseback many times, but never alone. [...] When he drew nearer to Winterfell, the snow and winds were so strong he was forced to cover every inch of skin but his eyes.
Tumblr media
“You look like you’ve seen the seven hells.”
“You don’t look any better,” Sandor replied. Jaime tried to ignore the slight. It was true he was unshaven, unwashed and frozen to the bone.
Tumblr media
“It’s too late,” Bran interrupted. Jon’s blood ran cold at the words.
“What do you mean it’s too late?”
“The Wall is gone. Eastwatch is gone. There is a dragon that breathes blue fire.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, I’m not trying to say “I’m Nostradamus and I guessed the entire first episode.” No. That is absolutely not what I’m saying. I thought I made an informed guess into how the characters might react to the events in season 7 and amongst each other, and used my own opinions on the characterizations to write a story based around one thing: Jon realizing he loved Sansa because she died. Everything else was secondary to me.
It’s only because I got such immediate and hostile push back to something I saw as obvious foreshadowing that made me feel so vindicated when the first episode had so many similarities to what I wrote. Anyone could have come up with these same lines as I did - because the evidence was there and the Jonsa fam was pointing it out the whole time.
I just reallllly hate how fanfiction, especially in ASOIAF and on FFN, has the default accusation of “character assassination” to use when you just hate a story, when all fandom characterizations are just opinions. Only the author of the original source material can decry character assassination. Fanfiction is everyone’s personal choices when it comes to things like this, and it appears that a whole shitload of Dany Stans descended on my story, and instead of saying “I hate Jonsa and Dany can do no wrong” they personally attacked me for horrible writing - when in fact I was the one more on point than they were. I never expected Sansa and the North to literally turn Dany and Jon away at the gates - but thats why I wrote a fanfic about it. Because that was the only way I was going to see it told.
I was so upset by this (can’t you tell? lol) that seeing this episode really made me feel good and feel more proud in what I wrote.
okay. rant over.

For over two decades King Jon Snow has supported his wife, Queen Daenerys Targaryen on her quest to rule the Seven Kingdoms all in the name of breaking the wheel. Westeros has not changed in the way they would have liked, and that has brought irreparable strain on their marriage.
Recently King Jon has learned that he fathered two daughters with his ex-lover, Sansa Stark. Daughters who after her death were kept hidden from him by his family and friends. His daughters are now grown women of the North. With a mix of their Stark and Targaryen heritages, they bring a halt to his wife's unsuccessful goal of ruling the Seven Kingdoms. So I’m starting yet another fic! Unlike my other two, this one is really not salty, lol. I want to try (TRY) to write these characters in a way to love them again. What bothered me most about S7 and 8 was that I felt many characters were badly OOC imo. I want to try to write them as I saw them. There were a few OOC moments in past seasons but I lack the talent and ambition to go further back than S7, except for one thing that my girlfriend insisted was SO OOC that it must be addressed. And I must admit I found the ramifications fascinating. This change involves Osha and Rickon. As my gf pointed out, Osha was Free Folk. She managed to get south of the wall on a ship, and left because of the army of the dead. She planned to go ‘as far south as south goes.’ Seems odd she would trust the Umbers. And they’re not ‘as far south as south goes’ by a long shot. Last Hearth is North even of Winterfell. As with my other fics, I must make the disclaimer I AM NOT A WRITER! Criticism and suggestions are welcome, even appreciated, but please be respectful. As you all know, the basis for this fic and all the characters, places, etc, are the property of George RR Martin and D&D.

Do you know any JB fics where Arya is written decently/has at least SOME interactions with brienne? Cuz I love Arya and my bby needs better role models than a faceless assassin. (Most jb stuff I have read so far are heavier on the brienne Sansa friendship and I get why I just want Arya too :p)
... I’m writing one more or less XD but hmmmm god I might have read a few but now I can’t recall. maybe @shipping-receiving can help us out? XD (sorry for the tag but you’re a pro at recs maybe you have better memory than me for this XD)

Okay girl you’re perfect! Like you ship SanSan, Bramie and Jonerys, if you ship Gendrya too I’m going to ask you to merry me. Now, rambling apart, I just want to tell you that your blog is awesome and I love your stories! Also can you tell me the names of good Jonerys and Bramie fanfiction? Both canon and AU. Thanks :D P.s. Forgive my horrible english :(
I do ship Arya and Gendry– when’s the wedding? :D
Thank you very much, you’re very kind :) Good Jonerys can be had by @freshhexes and @meisiesmut and @ashleyfanfic, just to start. There are many others, too, so check out the bookmarks these authors have on AO3 and you’ll find a bounty, I’m sure.
Good Braime? Oh, my friend, you are in SUCH LUCK. I was just raving about various amazing JB authors last night. SandwichesYumYum, Ikkim, RoseHeart, Coraleeveritas, QuizzicalQuinnia, @janiedean, @shirleyann66, @asbestosmouth, and @nurdles I can name off the top of my head as SUPERLATIVE, pro-quality writers who honor us by writing fic for this wonderful pairing.
Basically, check out the Braime bookmarks I have on my AO3. Those are stories I love and reread over and over like an obsessed stalker.
Oh, and if you pick ONE story to read, it must be Bound Together unless you can’t cope with a long fic, in which case read Unicorns of Winterfell.
Unless you dislike Modern AUs, in which case you must read… shit, I can’t even narrow down the best-best-best canon Braime story. So many of them– SigilBroken and @shirleyann66 have written some freaking masterpieces. A Dance with Ice and Fire, perhaps, or In This Light?
Just read both: better safe than sorry!
If you like canon with a hint of the supernormal, then you HAVE to read and give all the love that you have in your soul. It’s an unparalleled tear-jerker and I was sobbing for HOURS after every chapter. Just, like, have tissues handy, and be okay with being a hot emotional mess for a few days afterwards.
Hope these help! Thanks again for your kind compliment, and for reading my stories! My maid-of-honor will be in touch with potential dates for the blessed event to occur.

The pro-Daenerys and pro-Sansa meta no one asked for.
Tumblr media
So I felt compelled to write this in response to the growing ugliness between the Jonerys and Jonsa fandoms. It’s something that puzzles me and makes me sad. It’s no secret to anyone that I am a Jonerys shipper, but that doesn’t mean I dislike Sansa as a character or hate the Jonsa ship in general. What does bother me, though, is the constant bickering over which will be canon, and the constant attacks from each side aimed at the female protagonists in an attempt to devalue the opposing ship.
I don’t understand these attacks and to me they just perpetuate the damaging tradition of female competition over a man. I realize all of this is fictional, but in most cases of the Jonerys/Jonsa feud I see people tearing down Dany or Sansa in order to legitimize the ship in question by saying that Jon could only be with Dany because Sansa is weak or only be with Sansa because Dany is evil, etc. What’s worse, I stumble upon a lot of fics where the main conflict is a love triangle in which usually Dany but sometimes Sansa becomes a villain character. Think about this for a second. A complex, interesting, multi-layered female character who is not canonically a villain in either case being used as a mere obstacle to a romantic ship, thereby creating a love triangle and feminine competition that doesn’t--and probably won’t--canonically exist. Maybe it’s the feminist in me screaming, but that makes me so, so sad.  Now, fic writers can and should write whatever they want, and I am actually a huge fan of the love triangle trope. But in this case, it is being fabricated out of thin air and the end result is a lot of hate thrown at these women because of imagined scenarios in which they fight over Jon Snow.  So now that I have given you this lengthy preamble, here’s a post about why, as far as I’m concerned, that would never happen--because Dany and Sansa are actually very similar. I believe that both women are confident by this point of the series and would not chase a man who is divided in his feelings for them and, in my opinion, they would actually be great friends.
1. Dany loves and protects women.
I feel like the idea of Dany fighting Sansa for Jon’s affection goes fundamentally against her character.
Dany would not try to destroy another woman’s happiness that way. We have seen her defend other women and display a special concern for women on several occasions.
In season 1, Dany used her power and influence to save the women in the shepherd village from rape at the hands of the Dothraki. We all know how this turned out, but it is the first instance of her trying to stand up for women and establish them as something more than property in Dothraki culture.
In season 3, Dany makes it a point to save Missandei from Master Kraznys and take her into her care. This is not something she needed to do. She doesn’t need a translator and was easily able to take the Unsullied without Missandei’s assistance or friendship. But she saw how Missandei was mistreated and wanted the opportunity to give her a better life. The famous line, “But we are not men,” just further illustrates Dany’s awareness of the plight of women in this culture and her desire to fix that.
Tumblr media
In season 6, when Dany is held captive by the Dothraki horde and has been placed with the Dosh Khaleen, she is kind to the young, widowed khaleesi who brings her outside the tent, understanding and sympathizing with her situation.
But these women seem to love their chains--they feel the Dosh Khaleen is not a terrible situation to be in. They are an obstacle to Dany’s freedom but she understands their reluctance to question their status and doesn’t view them as her enemies. She liberates them, only burning the khal’s men who sought to harm her.
Finally, at the end of season 6, Dany forms an alliance with Yara Greyjoy, knowingly and willingly establishing another woman as leader of the Iron Islands. While a woman like Cersei sees other queens as dangerous competition, Dany seeks to aid, protect, and elevate other women.
We have no reason to assume that she would treat Sansa Stark any differently, and (as I will argue below) their similarities would probably lead to a meaningful friendship if they spent enough time together.
2. Sansa craves (and deserves) friendship.
Sansa’s character has changed noticeably through the course of the series. I would argue that the only person to change more is Jaime Lannister. When we first meet Sansa she is selfish and a little rude. But I can’t fault her for this--she’s a teenage girl, and one who starts the series in a place of considerable privilege.
But when that is taken away from her, Sansa becomes noticeably kinder and more understanding of other people. While she used to be annoyed by and somewhat mean to Arya, the loss of her little sister seems to affect Sansa and she misses that companionship.
She first tries to replace it with Margaery Tyrell, who seems to care genuinely for Sansa’s wellbeing--something Sansa isn’t used to at court, where everyone has questionable motives and hidden agendas. Sansa and Margaery’s friendship was sweet and offered us a glimpse of a happy, grateful young girl who was giddy at the prospect of marrying Loras Tyrell and eager to develop a closer friendship with Margaery.
Tumblr media
Again, as we all know, that doesn’t exactly go according to plan, and Sansa’s next option is Shae. While Shae is only her handmaiden, Sansa seems to trust her and is thankful for her support in moments like the one when Sansa starts her period and tries desperately to hide it from Cersei. She doesn’t have a mother to talk to or a sister or any close friends, so she relies on Shae to help her. In this moment, Shae does. Shae tries to protect Sansa and even tells Tyrion that she loves the younger girl.
Tumblr media
But jealousy sours this relationship when Shae believes that Tyrion actually wanted his marriage to Sansa, causing so much trouble that Tyrion is forced to remove Shae from Sansa’s service, leaving her alone again.
After that happens, Sansa is left with no one but Tyrion himself, and after Joffrey’s death her only ally is Petyr. He cannot fulfill the role of friend and confidant because their relationship is very sexually-charged and he clearly sees Sansa as a younger, lovelier version of Cat--his lost love. Yet Petyr throws her into the Bolton’s clutches where it becomes immediately apparent that Sansa’s only friends are the rugged Northerners. But Ramsay puts a stop to that very quickly when he flays the woman who tries to help Sansa, and with no one but the Boltons themselves, Theon as Reek, and Myranda, Sansa is alone again.
Tumblr media
Sansa has almost given up on finding someone who can truly be her friend, as evidenced by her very well-placed distrust of Myranda from the beginning.
This is why Sansa is so willing to forgive Theon and to accept Brienne’s service the second time--because she has realized how lonely and desperate she is for a companion, someone to trust.
At the end of the day, Sansa is like a lot of us. A girl who fantasized about a beautiful life and grew up to realize it hardly works out that way for anyone. This experience hardened her. She is stronger and smarter than ever before but she isn’t heartless and still needs other people in her life. So I feel like meeting a woman like Dany wouldn’t arouse territorial feelings of jealousy in Sansa, who we already know doesn’t want to take the Iron Throne. Instead, she would see a kindred spirit--a woman who has also suffered, been used by men, lost everything, but emerged victorious and strong.
3. Dany and Sansa have a lot in common.
Although they lived very different lives and followed very different paths, Dany and Sansa have a lot of similarities that make both women such interesting and enjoyable characters to watch and read about.
Both women have had, at one point or another, magical creatures: Dany’s dragons and Sansa with Lady the direwolf.
Both women have lost their parents. Both women have lost two brothers.
Both women have been raped, if we are going by the show!universe. Dany was raped on her wedding night by the khal. Sansa was raped on her wedding night by Ramsay.
Both women entered into marriage arrangements to advance themselves politically so that they might avenge their families and take back their rightful homes. Dany, at Viserys’s behest, married Drogo for his army so that she might overthrow Robert Baratheon and take back her kingdom. Sansa married Ramsay at Petyr’s behest so that she might ingratiate herself to Ramsay and eventually take Winterfell for herself.
Both women have vengeful streaks, and it’s badass. Dany and Sansa aren’t murderous villains, but they recognize the necessity of violence as a means to an end and as a tool of vengeance. Dany’s burning of the slavers’ fleet was one of the most intense moments in the entire series and I will never forget it. It was also amazing when Sansa had Ramsay killed by his own hounds in an epic display of poetic justice.
Both women are still softhearted and loving despite their many hardships. We can still see love and compassion in Dany’s treatment of her friends and her dragons. I especially liked her gesture of giving Tyrion the Hand of the Queen pin, and her decision to forgive Jorah and urge him to save himself. Sansa displayed similar kindness in her gesture of sewing Stark clothing for Jon to symbolize his true status as a member of her family.
4. Their friendship would be mutually beneficial, and also really sweet ^.^
Last but not least, here are my cheesy ass headcanons about what would happen if these two spent a significant amount of time together at King’s Landing or Winterfell, and became friends.
--Dany seeing snow for the first time, and Sansa--who is apparently the Westeros Champion Snow Castle Architect--showing her how to sculpt things in it.
--Sansa showing Dany how to wear her hair with more of it down in the Northern style, and Dany fixing Sansa’s hair in intricate braids.
--Dany giving Sansa advice about men and sex, since poor Sansa has not had a positive sexual experience yet.
--Sansa being a welcome and valued member of Dany’s council meetings, because Sansa’s time at court is a valuable asset and Dany recognizes that.
--Both of them swapping funny but totally endearing stories about what it is like to live with Tyrion, the hilarious wino. Tyrion being super uncomfortable that his two favorite gals are always walking around arm-in-arm giggling and whispering conspiratorially in his direction.
--Both of them being girl power af and disrupting the fuck out of the patriarchy by making the most important decisions and strategizing like a couple of bosses.
--Trying to borrow each other’s clothes, but Sansa’s are hilariously big for Dany because of the height difference, and Dany’s dresses show even more skin on Sansa and are totally impractical in the Northern climate. So Sansa, expert seamstress extraordinaire, sews Dany some nice furs.
--Both women being important parts of Jon’s life, and vice versa, and all of them working together to leave the world better than they found it because that is literally like Dany’s motto now.
Wow, okay, so if you read all of that, thanks for being interested in my ramblings. Hopefully I convinced someone that we should all love each other and be friends lol. I know none of those headcanons will happen because there is no time for people to be cute and friendly with a war happening and everything. But a girl can dream.

P.S. My super-smart bff @oadara expressed interest in my ideas on this, so I’m tagging her now :D

The Witch’s Curse (Part 1)
The small town of Airedale was perfectly normal and quiet until the red woman showed up. Now with the curse she’s placed on the town Larissa and her new found group have to do their best to stay alive and fight against the undead.
Okay so I said I wanted to write a modern au zombie apocalypse with the Game Of Thrones characters so, here’s the first chapter! I don’t usual write multi-part fics so any feedback would be extremely appreciated.
I would also like to ask any one who reads this opinion’s, should I just write this as a fun fic or should it be a Robb Stark story? Please help me decide! Thank you!
Airedale Village was large compared to most neighbouring villages, but still only housed little over six hundred people. Everyone knew of each other if not by name then by face alone, so when a new comer entered the town it didn’t go amiss. So when the beautiful red headed woman going by the name of Melisandre arrived early one summer morning the town was rife with gossip of who she was and what she was doing in a little unknown village like this one.
Even when the women first arrived Larissa hadn’t paid much notice to her. She wasn’t much of a gossiper and liked to keep herself to herself. She didn’t want people knowing her business so did not see it as her business to know theirs, so she ignored the chattering and whispering about the red headed woman and got on with her every day life. Now, Melisandre had been in the town for just short of a month and the excitement had already dwindled down to nothing. The beautiful red woman was old news and people had soon returned to their normal lives and their boring meaningless conversations.
You could say that Airedale wasn’t the most exciting town to live in. The people were boring and little happened in the day to day life of the village that could be considered fun or exciting. When you grew up around the same people, going to the same shops and living in the same house, things soon began to feel tired and boring. It wasn’t a secret that every villager under the age of thirty dreamed of leaving, of moving to a big town somewhere and starting a new life. But the sad fact was that this town was comfortable. When you grow up not knowing anything other than the same grey cobbled streets then the idea of moving away alone to an unknown town with strange people was a scary prospect and one the younger side of the village only fantasised about.
Those who did dare to venture away from the village usually returned within a year or two, they missed the familiarity of it all and the close knit community. Everyone looked out for each other here, that was one of the pros of living in a small village, one of the very few pros at that.
Melisandre had settled herself into a small cottage on the outskirts of the town and now Larissa barely saw her, only on the occasional Wednesday when the woman would visit the corner shop she worked in to buy bread and milk. The woman didn’t speak much but her dark stare felt as though she was looking straight into your soul and Larissa always felt uneasy in her presence. She didn’t know what it was, but there was something unusual about the woman, she couldn’t place her finger on where this feeling had stemmed from but she knew she didn’t like her.
Every year towards the end of summer the village hosted it’s annual street fair. Even this was nothing exciting, it was hosted by the mayor of the town Stannis, but everyone knew he only went ahead with it because his young daughter Shireen insisted. The week approaching the fair she could usually be found stringing up bunting along the park fences and getting her uncle Renly to help her paint signs. The brothers didn’t get along at all but both of them doted upon the young girl.
Larissa didn’t really remember it well herself, but everyone knew that the little girl had been gravely ill when she was born and hadn’t been expected to live. She presumed that was why her uncle and her father tended to her every wish and want. Her mother had died when she was just a toddler and ever since then Stannis seemed to have lost most of his happiness. The only time there was ever a hint of light in his eyes was when he was around his daughter. That was, however, until the red woman appeared. Not a week after she had moved into the town she had gotten close to the mayor. They were often seen walking together and she even seemed to be taking on a mothering figure to the young girl. Most of the villagers thought it was sweet, but Larissa thought it ominous.
Her friends told her it was just because she didn’t like the woman, but Larissa thought differently. She was usually a good judge of character, like when she told her friends back in high school that the new man Euron who lived by the lake with the Greyjoy’s was creepy and no one had agreed. It took him less than a week to show his true colours and suddenly everyone agreed with her.It seems everyone always forgets the times she was right about people right from the off.
Honestly Larissa didn’t have many friends, but she didn’t mind at all. Her best friend and house mate Annie was really all she needed. She hadn’t been overly popular in school either, she was quiet compared to a lot of the students and so had found it hard to fit in. No one in the village was really horrible, so bullying luckily was not a common thing or Larissa was sure she would have been a victim of it back at school.
The corner shop she worked in sold mostly fruit, veg and other basic necessities. It was owned by an old couple who Larissa was sure wouldn’t live for many more years. The butchers down the road was owned by Stannis’ other brother Robert, he liked to boast about how he kills and prepares all of the meat by himself. The fish market was run by the Greyjoy’s who caught all fish they sell on the lake by their house, they kept away from everyone mostly. Larissa had gone to school with both the children but they were both older than her. Yara had left not long after Larissa had started and Theon was the year above her and in a completely different friendship circle. She had always found him loud and obnoxious and was glad she didn’t have to be around him any longer.
There was a small car garage near the post office, a small boutique shop and a sweet shop and that was about all Airedale had to offer it’s villagers in way of shopping experiences. If anyone wanted to do any real shopping they would have to visit the next town over which was a thirty minute bus ride away, or go online.
Finally the day of the street fair arrived and Larissa was sure the only person excited about it was young Shireen. Everyone else either saw it as something to do to pass the time or a good way to sell a few things. All of the stores were closed for the day and people could open up stalls up and down the main street. The road got blocked off and fair usually went on until the evening.
People sold cakes and food, other sold handmade clothing or jewellery. Most of the stalls were full of rubbish but Larissa liked to go and look at them all anyway. She always went with Annie, they would always walk alone the side of stalls on the left and then the side on the right and then they would buy a burger from Roberts bbq at the end. That was their routine and they always stuck to it.
As usual there was nothing worth buying but the two girls had fun looking nonetheless. The only thing that caught their interest was the stall near the middle of the right side which held a animals. Larissa recognised the young girl behind the table as one of the younger Stark children, Arya was her name. She was busy arguing with her brother Bran about something and didn’t notice the two girls getting closer.
One of the large cages on the table held baby chicks and the other bunnies. The Starks owned the large farm just outside the village and they often brought animals down to sell at the fair, the stall was usually manned by the elder children but it seemed that had been left to the youngest this year.
“Sansa’s rabbit had babies.” Arya explained as she notice their presence, “Father said we had to sell them because Robb’s dog kept trying to get into the cage and eat them.”
Sansa had been in the same year at school as Larissa but the two had never held more than a couple conversations together in all the years they’ve known each other. They were both quiet therefore they never seemed to get pasted the awkward small talking stage of a friendship. Her brother’s Robb and Jon had been the year above them and had both been fairly popular meaning Larissa didn’t know them too well either.
She knew Arya though. Arya was dating the boy who worked in the car garage and usually popped into her corner shop for lunch whenever she ventured into the town to see him. Larissa wouldn’t say her and Arya were close but she knew her well enough to consider her a friend.
“They’re so cute!” Annie gushes, bending down so that the could see into the cage better, “I wish we had room for a rabbit.” she sighs, poking her finger through one of the holes in the cage to stroke at one of the babies.
“You say you want one until it starts peeing on our carpet and chewing at your favourite chairs legs.” Larissa laughs and moves to look at the chicks who were squeaking away.
“These are mine.” Arya grins as she follows her over to the next cage, “I wanted to set them loose in Sansa’s room but mother wouldn’t let me.”
Larissa laughs lightly, of course Arya would want to do something like that, she was surprised the girl hadn’t actually gone through with it.
“How come you’re running the stand this year?” Larissa asks, standing up straight once again when she was finished looking at the baby animals.
“Robb and Jon are helping father back at the face, they’re putting up some new fencing and Sansa said it was boring and refused to come.” Arya shrugs, “I like it. Gets me away from that farm for a few hours so I don’t mind.”
“It’s something different to do,” Larissa agrees with a nod, “Well good luck anyway, we’re going to go get a burger.” He grins, taking ahold of Annie’s arm and pulling her away from the bunnies as Arya shouts a goodbye.
“They were so sweet! Oh I really want one!” Annie pouts, looking over her shoulder at the cage they had just left behind.
“We’re not getting a rabbit Annie!” Larissa laughs, “You’ll only be bored of it within a week and it will be left to me to look after it.”
Annie doesn’t argue but continues pouting up at her friend right until the reach the large bbq grill by the town hall. Then her face seems to light up when the smell catches her nose and she hurries forward towards the food.
“Hi girls.” Robert grins as they approach, “Come for your annual burger?” his voice was deep and loud even when he was just talking normally. Larissa couldn’t imagine what it would be like to have him shouting down at you angrily, she didn’t want to find out.
“Yes!” Annie bounces up to the grill and looks down at the food with hungry eyes, “I’d like extra onions this year please Robert.” She smiles.
Robert chuckles and prepares both of them the largest burgers he had into buns and piled them high with onions, “These ones are on the house, enjoy girls.”
They both thanked him and hurried off with their food, walking away from the fair to the bench they usually sat on that was placed just at the edge of the park facing the town hall. As they both tucked in the doors to the large building opened and Melissandre came storming out with an annoyed look on her face, shortly followed by an angry Stannis.
Larissa didn’t like to eavesdrop but they were stood so close that she couldn’t help but over hear them. They were arguing but without any context Larissa couldn’t be sure what it was about, but neither of them looked very happy. Stannis was not the right man to piss off and it seems Melisandre had done just that.
“You can’t get rid of me for good!” The red woman glares over at the man, “I may leave this town but my mark will be left here. I curse this blasted town and all it’s people!” The look in her dark eyes is ferocious and her hand grips tight at the long necklace she always seems to wear, “You’re village will be plagued with accidents, your villagers will die, but they will soon rise again. You have been warned.”
With one final glare the woman stormed off leaving a very angry Stannis behind. His eye twitches with annoyance and he stomps back into the building, slamming the door shut behind him. Larissa and Annie sit in silence for a few moments before sharing a confused look.
“What the hell was all that about?” Annie asks, her eyebrows furrowed in a bewildered look, “Did she just put a curse on this town?” she looks at her friend, serious for a moment before the both of them burst into laughter.
“It would seem that way! I didn’t realise we were living in a fairy tale.” Larissa chuckles with a shake of her head, “I knew that woman was strange!”
But Larissa couldn’t understand just how strange that woman really was, that is until the accidents begin a few days later and the girls realise that maybe the woman hadn’t been being dramatic after all and that maybe it was no laughing matter at all.
