hey guys do yourselves a favor and block toodefendorperson. Not gonna write an 8 page google doc callout bc that’s unabomber behavior to me but
I thought they were just being weird about Descendants (which could still be a blockable offense, it really doesn’t have to take much) but they’re also racist and sexist af. Probably best for anyone in the fandom to remove the possibility of their bs popping up in your recs before it actually happens
Descendants is cursed, racism, sexism (this is just a handful, literally the whole blog is just more of this going all the way back to 20fucking16)
Just thought I’d throw that out there!

Honestly, nothing stands out to me more, still, as how much better all of the Star Wars movies are on Tumblr because of the things the fandom saw there, even if it wasn’t on purpose, and just underlined things to the point of making such better movies in their heads than the prequels and sequels actually were.
People saw little things, like the hints of Anakin in Ben and all of it made so much more sense to them and the movies worked more for them than anyone else.
I saw The Last Jedi in theaters twice opening week and it’s my favorite thing because it still has one of the most stunning scenes ever to make a theater full of people go dead silent in awe... but it’s hated by several huge Star Wars fans I know because it did things they didn’t like or expected, but I see the hints and references to things far beyond the movies that Rian Johnson pulled from because he’s a huge EU nerd the way a lot of us are.
And that seems to be the problem. Everyone has their own Star Wars. The one they grew up with. The version that was in their head because of their specific combination of the first movies they saw and the specific tie-in media they had.
Like, let’s be real. The Disney movies aren’t nearly as bad as they’re made out to be most of the time, with all the largest problems resting squarely on the overcorrection that was Episode 9, but I think it’s worth underlining as well just how much of Star Wars is loved in spite of - and in some places because of - its faults. The prequels are a mess, the sequels go from mid to great to trashfire, and all of this isn’t even new considering the places things went in RotJ.
We’re trained on the expanded universe/Legends continuity, the tie-in animated series, the video games, so much additional and corrective lore, that really, the Star Wars in our heads IS Star Wars.
And I think the thing that really hurts it the most is how much all the best parts were damaged by the really loud “fans”, from the horrible treatment of cast members to the hideous overreaction that made Ep 9 to, of course, the burnout it all gave to George Lucas.
I want nothing more than a new Star Wars, from scratch. Something made with the spark the original movie had, and I just don’t think it ever will happen. The few big scifi films that get made are adaptations and most just don’t get people into theaters, which is the only metric that will get any more made.
I don’t really... have a point here. I just wish Star Wars wasn’t quite so... messy. Not even in terms of its story or the media made for it, but in terms of the people. These movies and stories have always been a bit trash. But it’s our trash. My trash. We found something in it we loved and it drives me nuts more and more every year that it turned into so many problems instead of what it used to be, back in the years especially before and around the prequels.
The way I remember it in people’s little author’s notes in their fics and fan videos. But maybe it’s just what I remember, same as the Star Wars I specifically grew up with.
“Thank you, Uncle George, for letting us play in your toy box.”

i watched catdog this morning on tv. zero ads which kinda surprised me. but it was on one of those weird channels... not the 'main' channels, like 1-6 lmfao
they don't play as many cartoons as they did when i was a kid. it's sad to see ngl. i remember watching cartoons back-to-back every saturday morning. i miss that so much
and when they do play cartoons it's the baby-ish ones. and have very cheap animation. sometimes i can get past that but when every. single. cartoon is like that it gets stale. and they have a very similar style each time. they all look the same. man i was lucky to be born in 2000. i grew up with a variety of cartoons
but i guess you could say kids now have even more access to these cartoons, including the ones we grew up with. we just watched what we could watch on tv back then. didnt have much of a choice. but they Actually played Good cartoons most of the time. you have to dig to find the good stuff nowadays. i could be wrong though but idk a lot of the modern cartoons dont interest me, maybe it's just because i've grown up. I still watch cartoons though but it's not my whole personality like I used to make it...haha

I love that The Ghost and Molly McGee's forced cancellation isn't just frustrating to fans of the show but to people in the animation industry as well. They're just as sick as we are about how much studios disrespect animation. They keep looking for the next Spongebob, Simspons, or goodness forbid Family Guy, but instead having faith in the creators and their content, they just...wait. They wait to make a profit and do the bare minimum to market their shows and make them available.
Let's look at Gravity Falls for example. I remember that when Gravity Falls was still airing, you would be able to find out a new episode was coming out based on coming across a commercial by random chance or by the people working the show promoting it online. Add that with the fact that it was on a different channel that required you paying MORE for your cable to get it. It WAS available through Disney Channel, a channel more available at a cheaper price, but the entire of Season Two got moved to the more expensive Disney XD, where Disney shows go to die, because...REASONS. With no warning or announcement. I think I found out about Gravity Falls moving to Disney XD because the trailer played during a commercial break. And that's just the START the show's problems. Mixed in with poor marketing, the show would have a crazy inconsistent schedule, where we'd have four episodes a week, a few months of NOTHING, a few more episodes a week, nothing for a few months, a random episode playing between that nothingness with next to no promotion, and all of that happening to the rest of the show until it finally died a slow death with its series finale where four episodes got stretched out for six months. That...is NOT okay. And it doesn't stop with Gravity Falls.
Steven Universe, OK KO, Ducktales 2017, Amphibia, The Owl House, and now Ghost and Molly McGee are all shows that had similar and sometimes WORSE treatments as Gravity Falls did, where the networks gave next to NO marketing, the creators had to promote their own shows themselves, and the airing schedules were so inconsistent with wildly long hiatuses that only the most dedicated fans were willing to keep watching. General audiences (mainly kids) weren't willing to keep up with shows that had ongoing stories if the episodes stories kept being too spaced apart and never had reruns as frequent as other shows like Teen Titans Go or Big City Greens (Or whatever's constantly on network TV nowadays. I don't know. I mostly watch shit on streaming).
The people of the animation industry is catching onto all of these tricks, and they're getting sick of it. They're getting sick of inconsistent schedules. They're getting sick of trying to bend over backwards in every possible way to make the show they wanted. By either making serialized content as episodic as possible so the network could air it more or by condensing their stories as much as they can, already expecting that forced cancellation to happen sooner than later. And in some cases, they don't even get the luxury of being told their show is ending. Did you know that Inside Job and Paranormal Park both had seasons that were already in development before Netflix pulled the plug shortly after releasing new episodes of their shows? Did you know that The Ghost and Molly McGee was already working on a Season Three before Disney shut that down so they had to force out a series finale that would still be good despite the cancellation? Because it's true. It's ALWAYS true. Creators want to make MORE, but the studios won't let them because they didn't profit off of it. Except they WOULD HAVE if they treated it better.
I want kids to grow up with characters that stick around through their childhood, just like I did with mine. I want kids to have their own Ed, Edd n Eddy, Codename: Kids Next Door, Phineas and Ferb, or Kim Possible. I want kids to watch shows that last more than two-three seasons, stick around for years, and leave an impact as if they have all the time in the world because to them, it feels like they do. I want kids to have a show that ends on a high note because the creators wanted it and not because the networks demanded it. But the unfortunate thing is that it doesn't seem possible nowadays. Because if a mostly episodic show like The Ghost and Molly McGee fails, despite being charming and inoffensive and something most kids will love, the what hope IS left.

the history of animation in a nutshell
Early 1900s: hey what if comic strips could like move?
Late 1910s early 1920s hey what if we mashed this up with live action people?
late 1920s: hey what if this thing had sound?
Early to mid 1930s: hey what if this had people actually talking and also color?
late 1930s: hey you know that super cool movie that one lady animated with paper cut out silhouettes? What if we did that with painted cells? Would people even pay to see that? Never mind it turns out the answer is yes.
1940s: ah shit most of our animators got drafted and/or hate us now cause we weren’t paying them. IT’S PROPAGANDA TIME BABY. Also haha hitler got hit with a mallet and also the most racist depictions of Japanese people ever.
1950s to 1960s : oh what’s this newfangled thing? Television? What if you could air cartoons on it? Oh fuck no I ain’t paying that much to get the charecters to have different backgrounds and for the charecters to like, move fluidly. Also manga and anime are steadily growing more popular.
1970s: (Ralph Bakshi walks into a comics store and finds a furry comic) X rated animated movie? *cue the screams of mothers and their unsuspecting children now being introduced to the revolutionary idea that cartoons don’t equal kids stuff? WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO?
1980s to 1990s: we can have full on animated Broadway musicals? Wait, what do you mean animated movies can count for the Oscar’s? What do you mean now they get their own catagory because the academy still thinks their for babies? Anime and manga are taking off in the west. SWEET JESUS WHAT DRUGS ARE THE JAPANESE ON SHOWING THIS SHIT TO KIDS. But also why is it so fucking good. Maybe some of these aren’t even meant for kids? Wait We can sell toys to kids with cartoons? Wait we can actually put effort into these cartoons on television? The fuck to you mean we can animate in 3D now? What do you mean we can have well animated, well written sitcom shows like the simpsons? What do you mean you can make cartoon charecters say fuck? What drugs are creators at Nickelodeon on? Do I even want to know?
2000s: oh my god, there is this one show that I really like cause it’s really well written and genuinely funny but I can’t talk about it because it’s animated and we all know cartoons are for babies right? Oh look it’s the transformers movie, look how far CGI has evolved so we can make the transformers in a movie.
2010s: holy shit I know these shows are for kids but they’re just well written and have so much meaningful things to say about the world. Wait, it’s cool to like cartoons now? They they have fandoms for this? Fuck yeah I’m in. (Enters one of the most notoriously toxic fandoms of all time) THEY HAVE GAY PEOPLE IN THESE SHOWS NOW? AND COMPLEX EMOTIONAL STORYTELLING? AND ADULT ANIMATED SHOWS CAN BE MORE THAN JUST SITCOMS WITH THE SAME JOKES AND STYLE? WHY IS IT THAT EVERY DISNEY CARTOON SINCE GRAVITY FALLS INCLUDE THINGS THAT GET MORE AND MORE FUCKED UP? WHY DO I FUCKING LOVE IT? WHY THE FUCK DID DISNEY DO THE OWL HOUSE DIRTY LIKE THAT?
2020s: I got this show I wanna pitch but it dosen’t fit into any box that the networks want and also I’m afraid that they’ll just randomly cancel it before I can finish the story I want to tell. Wait, I can just post the pilot on my YouTube channel, see if anybody actually likes this thing I made and just make the show independently? FUCK THE NETWORK! I AM THE NETWORK
