I saw this strange white blorb growing on a stump in my scrap wood/log pile. I wasn't sure if it was a fungus or a slime mold... Turns out it's probably a false puffball - a slime mold cosplaying puffball fungi!

This is a new thing to me... I don't think I've ever found/seen a slime mold before. Usually the wood pile is full of sleeping moths, frogs, fungi and a bazillion tiny invertebrates. So cool to find a new species in there!

What is the big hole in Gardener's stomach for?

Sometimes shadow swarms or other insects/animal life like to hang out in there. mostly shadows though, since the further into the forest she goes, the less animals and bugs there are besides shadows there are.

Seriously disappointed this was the best crayfish photo: 

There were scads of these tadpoles but I missed my chance to photo a salamander larva because the little bugger was just too quick: 

The greening of the wasteland. I hope The City holds off mowing it for awhile: 

I was excited to see a honeybee with a red dot on its head until I got home & discovered that red dot was a mite with the appropriately ominous scientific name of Varroa destructor:  

Back at the home garden.
