Sometimes you write things that you know will likely never make it to air, especially in the current anti-wlw TV climate, but... but you write it anyway.
And then you hope, that perhaps, someday... maybe... 🤷‍♀️

What's your opinion on pirating (of movies games or books)?
My own personal stance on piracy are reserved for my IRL friends.
That said, here's some musings that you might get a kick out of:
When Game of Thrones broke records for being the most-pirated show in history, HBO's public response ranged from "upset" to "nonexistent." But internally — and I know this from someone who worked in their accounting department at the time — everyone was over the moon. "Lots of piracy" meant that lots of people wanted to see the thing. It's an extra metric that film industry people can use to track how popular their stuff actually is.
A certain indie film company I'm on speaking terms with has talked in the past about how piracy is a great form of organic promotion. Their website asks the pirates to pay $1 "as penance."
Anti-piracy measures always make the experience worse for everyone— except the pirates, who always seem to find a way around it.
When a movie (or show) gets financed, it's a bet by the investor that "this will make $X money." With only a few special exceptions the entire cast, crew, and production team is already paid in full long before the movie reaches your eyeballs and earholes. All those ticket sales, streaming deals, and physical copies go to pay the investors back. Piracy doesn't take money away from the cast and crew— all it does is deprive money to the people who get a percentage of what the movie earns.
Piracy is the only way to access some movies and shows that the rightsholder refuses to put out on streaming / physical release. See also: Warner Bros. and Infinity Train.
Piracy is a legitimate form of protest.
With all that said: In general, if you can pay for the media you love, then please do. Especially if it's an indie creator. They'll appreciate you more for it.

if you work in the film or tv industry please be nice and respectful to the crewmembers
I actually had a conversation with someone who worked for the D Channel and shows like Siren and Deadly Class. Apparently, they worked for some real shits.
most notably, Dove Cameron who allegedly screamed abuse at her makeup artists and stole thousands in costumes and jewelry. now, they were able to prove their story with the fact that they told me this story several months before the actress told it in an interview and tried to frame it as cute and not being a thief who made the jobs of the crew infinitely harder. all I can hope is that she treats the crew on that Schmigadoon! better
they spoke of others most notably Steven Seagal [he is well known for being a shite] and apparently, the lead guy on Arrow [can't speak for that one] being the reason so many cast members begged off the show though apparently he was decent during the first season then got a big head.
after years of seeing videos of unprofessional behavior from actors, I think we should remember that film and tv crews deserve respect just as much as any other worker. they are the ones who help bring stories to the screen to life.
[This crew member did say that the casts of Siren and deadly class and Paula Patton and Aiden Gillen are very kind and professional though to give some good news]

researching film and television for my history degree led me to realise that hiring actors to play bad guys sometimes just means finding a bad guy and putting him in front of a camera or in a recording booth
makes it easier if they’re a piece of shit in the first place i guess

Oh, God. The writers' strike./// I forgot about that happening, too. /// I support the WGA, but the timing is not great here. We might be watching dvds for a year of really LOOOONG hiatus. Kind of like 2020 all over again.
Same! If the writer's strike happens, I might be able to finally catch up on all the shows I've promised myself I'd watch but have never gotten around to. That is, if they're still available through streaming. LOL!

Not me just straight up crying as I find out that the owl house has been canceled.
Not only did i love the show, but as an aspiring screenwriter It gave me some hope in the possibility of working for big companies like Disney without giving up on inclusivity and quality content.
It seems like toh was too good for Disney after all.

Bit of a change of topic. As I've mentioned before, I work in the film industry in Britain. Recently, a couple of young actors started a crowdfunding campaign because they want to create a TV series. One of the trio of main characters and series regular will be a mixed race/poc woman in a wheelchair, which is what got me interested, because I can't remember when I last watched something with a powerful strong independent woman who's POC and disabled. I want to give their crowdfunding a little push, so I was wondering if anyone here might want to support it? Apparently if you donate they'll give you some gifts and you might even get to go behind the scenes or be an extra, which sounds exciting!

anon that wasn’t at what im pretty sure was you!!! dw! 🫶🏼 re: austin callum excitement level comparisons i don't really think there's enough to say that. can't do social media comparisons bc callum doesn't have any public accounts, and they both seemed happy as could be on the 10th. i am admittedly a little ? about how apple seems to be navigating press in general but i don't think that has anything to do with the actors, its the apple tv marketing team that i wish had a suggestion box, haha.
(while im here- anyone who works in the world of press tours/press junkets and/or has more insight into how apple tv does press pls feel free to send an anon/send me a private message/email me etc. i welcome "well," from ppl who know more than i do about this world! and i know my followers appreciate it when i happen to get "hello i know what im talking about" anons too <3)

another super insulting part of the watcher situation i haven't rly seen ppl addressing much
ryan deadass saying smth like "nobody else on youtube has made tv quality content"
like... i really feel like it's important to highlight that bc not only do they obviously have no respect for their audience, but that statement shows they have no respect for their peers in the industry, either.
not to mention it is a shining example of bleeding arrogance to such a high degree, you will straight up fucking lie bc you're truly convinced you're that special when you're anything but.
there's been NUMEROUS online creators who were recognized by entertainment industry workers BECAUSE they made tv quality content & even full stop blockbuster quality content.
bo burnham started on youtube & is now one of the most wellknown & loved standup comedians of our generation, with numerous netflix specials & even a movie he wrote & directed under his belt.
the try guys, fellow ex-buzzfeed employees, had their own tv specials on food network (based off their youtube shows, btw) & a documentary made about them as well
rosanna pansino has also been on numerous food network shows both as a host & a judge
quinta brunsun, another fellow ex-buzzfeed employee, went on to create her own whole ass sitcom that has been highly praised
matpat cameo'd in the fnaf movie because of his theories & multiple other fnaf creators had small cameos through the employee of the month board easter egg
markiplier made multiple high-quality shows on youtube & is now working on a highly anticipated movie (he was also planned to cameo in the fnaf movie but couldn't due to conflicting schedules with his own movie)
hot ones got their own tv gameshow due to their popularity & they are still one of the most wellknown, beloved & respected internet shows
many short films made on youtube went on to premiere at film festivals & even in theaters
the hit horror film "talk to me" was created by youtubers rackaracka
webseries of actual fucking tv shows have also existed for literal decades
the list goes on.
to seriously think that overproduced bullshit is all you need to make "tv quality content" is not only tone-deaf, but shows they do not even know what they're talking about. many tv shows & huge blockbuster movies are made with absolutely microscopic budgets & small teams, & they still get praised & awarded for the passion, dedication, & creativity that shined brightly under those restrictions.
the blair witch project is probably the most wellknown & highly praised example of this, but it is far from the Only example
it is a whole other slap in the face, again ESPECIALLY when puppet history is one of their most popular shows, to spit in the face of internet history. to see the success of their predecessors, even ppl they fucking worked with at buzzfeed, & deny them of all their success & efforts to get where they ended up.
no, y'all are not the first people to make "tv quality content" on the internet. FAR from it. because your crap isn't even genuine "tv quality".
but you are the first ones to ever disrespect not only your audience, but your own fucking industry & your peers on this level.
& you are the first & i sorely hope the only fuckwads dumb enough to pull a stunt this fucking stupid, out of touch & utterly tone deaf.
