she pushes the wet hair out of her eyes and takes a long drag out of her cigarette. she lets her head fall back, against the tree; james almost winces.

she holds her hand out, and james shakes his head.

“wuss,” she chuckles, inhaling and exhaling through her nose, the smoke twirling and twisting into patterns in the air. “afraid of a little tobacco?”

“absolutely not,” he answers, smiling, looking down at her hands.

her fingernails are painted coral, the polish chipped away little by little, after the long day spent in the water. her skin is still wet, and he’d push the auburn curls out of her eyes.

“i’m not scared of anything,” he adds, and she rolls her eyes at him.

“you can’t not be scared of anything,” she says, like it’s, obviously, the most obvious thing in the world. “there must be something that rubs you off the wrong way.”

“i’m not a huge fan of pidgeons,” he admits, with a slight smile. “nasty things, they’re dirty, ugly, and they just eat and shit all day.”

lily snorted. “must be a nice life to live, right?”

“absolutely.” james laughed. “meaningful. what about you, then? what are you scared of?”

“i can’t say i really like the thought of death.” she shrugs nonchalantly, and lightly taps her cigarette, the ashes falling to the ground. “not of death itself, really, but of what follows after it. it’s scary, not knowing what to expect.”

“oh, evans, don’t think about death already,” james tsked, taking the cigarette from between lily’s fingers and inhaling. “we’re still young,” he said, blowing the smoke as he spoke, “we have our whole life ahead of us.”

“you’re right, unfortunately.”

“always am.”

#actually yes there is something more terrifying and that is being in a car with a drunk driver. happened to me once when I was 24 #and I got into the car of a friend who was (unknown to me) an alcoholic and very good at concealing drunkenness until she was in a car. #one of the worst experiences of my life and nearly ruined a friendship. sure permanently altered one. anyways. #that was scary as shit. I tried so hard to stay behind this car because I was afraid of them getting behind me and... idk rear ending me #and I tried so hard to avoid it but they did something VERY unsafe to get behind me and I basically took the next turn to get the fuck away #god I hate that. driving under the influence should get you exploded via instant karma. ugh #also I started tearing up once I'd finally gotten away from them so uh kudos to the drunk fucking driver for helping stave off hockey tears. #go get arrested immediately as your prize #don't drive drunk kids:) or high:) just fucking don't:)

im thinking about divorced sam and max and imagining how its just because theyre at a low because theyre getting old and its all too much and all too sudden and its not really a going distant thing and losing feelings but rather the worry of tying the other one down for so many years practically their whole lives so making a decision to split and stay just friends so to not take all freedom from the other but it doesnt work it just turns them very cranky and they eventually find their way back to one another cause they just cannot be apart nor with anyone else ans they cant have this work/friends only relationship they just have to talk it out and realize they both just want the best for one another but the best thing that happened to both of them Is the other and having one another and they simply cannot split. and thats where the another marriage happens.. i wonder how long they would be apart and if it would be abrupt or starting from stupid misunderstanding arguments
