With no explanations capably dealt by knowledge or history, it was a truth that only the gods could offer. The evidence of his posterity come in so many shapes and sizes, men and women, swordsmen and mages, some who owned fractions of his likeness and others who seemed to hold so little. To walk the world at the same time as his many descendants was a conundrum the Hero-King long since accepted, though no doubt this would mark the first occasion where he’s been deemed so glittering an idol by one. A butting of heads beneath the mistletoe, recognition to strike one, and his reflection nigh filled the newly met Ophelia’s eyes with stars!
“Um, I thank you for your generous words, but... I must attest that the greatness you speak of is better directed toward my allies. My place in history would not be made if not for the brave souls who shared my fight.” The strange and ticklish feeling risen from this encounter extends even further at the kiss pecked against his cheek, pointing to the nearly forgotten mistletoe as the cause. For one who had not yet even come to full terms with the idea of children, here he’s shot ahead by leaps and bounds to the far surpassed finish line--standing face-to-face with a distant descendant after a seeming multitude of skipped stairs, rungs, and steps—generations—extending far beyond his lifetime. At least there was an equally untold quantity of time to get to know the still youthful Ophelia.
“...But you mentioned that you were called Ophelia...Dusk? How strange, that.” The important revelation is remembered of them with a chuckle, followed by the king’s shaking head as he quickly relays that such words were without intention to offend. “—We don’t share a surname! I imagine the passage of time to be the maker of such a difference, but nevertheless, it makes me wonder what we do share. The mistletoe that has gathered us here must be a blessing in disguise. Why don’t you tell me about yourself, Ophelia?”
HE IS A LIVING, BREATHING LEGEND.  a walking myth with a steady heart in his chest. he is an ancestor—   the revelation is fluid in ophelia’s head, easily escaping them in a flurry of exhilaration.  though they are not surprised at the sight of marth standing before them   (   they’ve been in the presence of both friend and foe that existed far in a different world   ), a feeling akin to shock throws their mental balance off.  a somewhat coherent string of rants spill from their lips before they have the time to shovel them back.  how could they stop themselves when the very man of heroism and legend was standing before them?  they could stomach the direct ties to their royal heritage better now that such a line of ascension aligned them as the hero-king’s descendant.
(   —   is what you’d want to believe.  there’s little excitement in the tremble of your hands, the smallest memory that he stood on a pedestal even higher than that of the chosen one’s.  if you could not compare yourself brightly to your father, then how could you respect yourself under his gaze?   )
the hero-king speaks and ophelia quickly pauses their rant to heed his words—   they can showcase their passion on marth’s final stand at a later date.  hopefully some time in the near future.   “   o-of course!  if not for the inspiration of your allies, then would you truly be the king the legends know you as.  oh— WAIT, that’s not to say that your endeavors rest fully on the backs of your allies!  unless, uh...   ”   green sways in their peripheral and with it comes an opportunity of indulgence.  so, they rise to the tips of their feet to press a kiss to marth’s cheek.  after they gesture to the plant, both ancestor and descendent freeze in place.
marth is the first to move.  ophelia startles at tone of his voice, one that is quickly dismissed of its oddness.  despite the situation before them, chosen second finds themselves calming down.  no longer does their face flush as red as earlier.  there is still tension but marth addresses them with such fondness that ophelia can’t help but relax.   “   alright then!  the tale of ophelia dusk, second of the chosen heroes, is no short myth.  unless you are limited on time.
“   if i must be honest... i don’t know my true surname.  dusk is one i chose for myself upon my ascension as a chosen one.  my father is odin— uhm, owain dark, the prince of ylisse.   ”   it is then that she almost asks for confirmation on the line of royalty.  the question of her being born far away from the kingdom she supposedly has a place in.  ...nah, that would be sentimental, too deep of a topic for a first meeting.  though when the idea is dropped, another takes its place.  ophelia unbuttons silver and pulls her sleeve up just slightly, raising her forearm enough for marth to see her brand.   “   i interrupted myself but, is this of some familiarance to you?  my father proclaimed to me once, upon my entrance into war, that it symbolized my lineage.  i never asked after that until i came here.   ”
then, again, a thought throws her off of topic.  gray eyes widen with an exclamation:   “   wait, how long have you attended garreg mach?  have i been walking the same grounds as my idol for months, unaware?!   ”
@arcstral , ask post !!

What are the other Supreme Skyrim Mods(tm) if you don't mind me asking?
Ok so these are the three mods I absolutely can never replace or get rid of because I enjoy too much of what they add. These are numbered, but in truth they are all equal to me.
1: Relics of Hyrule: Adds numerous (and I mean numerous, like the number of Zelda games represented in this is amazing) items from The Legend of Zelda into Skyrim, while also integrating Hyrule and it’s decline into the world of Skyrim (no spoilers on how!) What results is a hunt for relics of grand proportions, as the Last Dragonborn scours all of Skyrim and Solstheim to find weapons, armor, and even a few surviving accounts that let them piece together how Hyrule gave way to modern Skyrim, and the repercussions such mighty artifacts like Majora’s Mask and the Master Sword surviving into modern times would have. As of 6.6 also has a museum space called the Archive, allowing you to see just what all you’ve gathered and even learn a little more about them.
2: Legacy of the Dragonborn: Tamriel has a great number of relics and artifacts. You, as a player, can only carry so many at once. But isn’t it a shame that all the rest just get... tossed into storage somewhere, never to be marveled at by the people of Skyrim? Well one Altmer by the name of Auryen certainly agrees. And so, after months of painstaking labor he finally opens a great gallery to host and display your grand collection to the rest of Tamriel: The Dragonborn Museum! But this mod is so much more than that, it adds hundreds of artifacts from prior Elder Scrolls games (and even some that only exist in the background lore), gives you a place to store and display them, and even has displays to celebrate your other achievements! Show wizards who’s boss by ignoring their fireballs with the flame-proof Dragonbone Cuirass (which Auryen notes isn’t as unique as it used to be since the dragons came back but is still historic!) Aquire all three of the Tools of Kagrenac, not just Keening! Gain untold riches with Orgnum’s Coffer! And undertake numerous quests as you seek to create a museum unlike any other! Also, unlike the Mournhold Museum in Morrowind, you can take artifacts as needed and even make replicas for display! Have your cake and eat it too. And even better, it is designed to integrate numerous mods such as Vigilant, The Artifacts of Boethia, and The Gray Cowl of Nocturnal (among others, the mod page has a more complete list).
3: Ordinator: It’s no secret that not all of Skyrim’s skill trees are very exciting or fun to level. Ordinator helps with this by making all of them a little more... muti-functional, when it doesn’t just straight up make them better overall. Enchanting now improves staves and scrolls too, lockpicking now aids with handling bear traps and other mechanisms, and all the schools of magic are designed to scale better and even lean into one another like how Vanilla Illusion’s Silent Casting was useful with all schools, allowing your mage to be the force of nature they were always meant to be! All that and more await with Ordinator. Not as flashy as some mods, but it makes nearly any playstyle infinitely more rewarding and worthwhile.
Honorable mentions must also go to Artifacts of Ultima, which adds artifacts from the Ultima Series much like how Relics of Hyrule does with Zelda items, CACO (Complete Alchemy and Cooking Overhaul), which serves to make Alchemy feel a little less one note, and Reliquary of Myth, which buffs and improves several artifacts and makes them much more exciting to use,

Dragonslayer by Duncan M. Hamilton
Type: First book in trilogy Publisher: Tor Books Release date: 7/2/19
In his magnificent, heroic, adventure fantasy, Dragonslayer, Duncan M. Hamilton debuts the first book in a fast-moving trilogy: a dangerous tale of lost magics, unlikely heroes, and reawakened dragons.
Once a member of the King's personal guard, Guillot dal Villevauvais spends most days drinking and mourning his wife and child. He’s astonished—and wary—when the Prince Bishop orders him to find and destroy a dragon. He and the Prince Bishop have never exactly been friends and Gill left the capital in disgrace five years ago. So why him? And, more importantly, how is there a dragon to fight when the beasts were hunted to extinction centuries ago by the ancient Chevaliers of the Silver Circle?
On the way to the capitol city, Gill rescues Solène, a young barmaid, who is about to be burned as a witch. He believes her innocent…but she soon proves that she has plenty of raw, untrained power, a problem in this land, where magic is forbidden. Yet the Prince Bishop believes magic will be the key to both destroying the dragon and replacingthe young, untried King he pretends to serve with a more pliable figurehead. Between Gill’s rusty swordsmanship and Solene’s unstable magic, what could go wrong?

The Grand Dark by Richard Kadrey
Type: Standalone novel Publisher: Harper Voyager Release date: 6/11/19
From the bestselling author of the Sandman Slim series, a lush, dark, stand-alone fantasy built off the insurgent tradition of China Mieville and M. John Harrison—a subversive tale that immerses us in a world where the extremes of bleakness and beauty exist together in dangerous harmony in a city on the edge of civility and chaos.
The Great War is over. The city of Lower Proszawa celebrates the peace with a decadence and carefree spirit as intense as the war’s horrifying despair. But this newfound hedonism—drugs and sex and endless parties—distracts from strange realities of everyday life: Intelligent automata taking jobs. Genetically engineered creatures that serve as pets and beasts of war. A theater where gruesome murders happen twice a day. And a new plague that even the ceaseless euphoria can’t mask.
Unlike others who live strictly for fun, Largo is an addict with ambitions. A bike messenger who grew up in the slums, he knows the city’s streets and its secrets intimately. His life seems set. He has a beautiful girlfriend, drugs, a chance at a promotion—and maybe, an opportunity for complete transformation: a contact among the elite who will set him on the course to lift himself up out of the streets.
But dreams can be a dangerous thing in a city whose mood is turning dark and inward. Others have a vision of life very different from Largo’s, and they will use any methods to secure control. And in behind it all, beyond the frivolity and chaos, the threat of new war always looms.

A Brightness Long Ago by Guy Gavriel Kay
Type: Standalone novel Publisher: Berkley Release date: 5/14/19
International bestselling author Guy Gavriel Kay's latest work is set in a world evoking early Renaissance Italy and offers an extraordinary cast of characters whose lives come together through destiny, love, and ambition.
In a chamber overlooking the nighttime waterways of a maritime city, a man looks back on his youth and the people who shaped his life. Danio Cerra's intelligence won him entry to a renowned school even though he was only the son of a tailor. He took service at the court of a ruling count—and soon learned why that man was known  as the Beast.
Danio's fate changed the moment he saw and recognized Adria Ripoli as she entered the count's chambers one autumn night—intending to kill. Born to power, Adria had chosen, instead of a life of comfort, one of danger—and freedom. Which is how she encounters Danio in a perilous time and place.
Vivid figures share the unfolding story. Among them: a healer determined to defy her expected lot; a charming, frivolous son of immense wealth; a powerful religious leader more decadent than devout; and, affecting all these lives and many more, two larger-than-life mercenary commanders, lifelong adversaries, whose rivalry puts a world in the balance.
A Brightness Long Ago offers both compelling drama and deeply moving reflections on the nature of memory, the choices we make in life, and the role played by the turning of Fortune's wheel.

Storm Cursed by Patricia Briggs

My name is Mercedes Athena Thompson Hauptman, and I am a car mechanic. And a coyote shapeshifter. And the mate of the Alpha of the Columbia Basin werewolf pack.   Even so, none of that would have gotten me into trouble if, a few months ago, I hadn’t stood upon a bridge and taken responsibility for the safety of the citizens who lived in our territory. It seemed like the thing to do at the time. It should have only involved hunting down killer goblins, zombie goats, and an occasional troll. Instead, our home was viewed as neutral ground, a place where humans would feel safe to come and treat with the fae.   The reality is that nothing and no one is safe.  As generals and politicians face off with the Gray Lords of the fae, a storm is coming and her name is Death.   But we are pack, and we have given our word.    We will die to keep it.

Type: Standalone novel Publisher: Tor Books Release date: 5/28/19
From Hugo, Nebula, and World Fantasy Award-winning Jo Walton comes Lent, a magical re-imagining of the man who remade fifteenth-century Florence―in all its astonishing strangeness
Young Girolamo’s life is a series of miracles.
It’s a miracle that he can see demons, plain as day, and that he can cast them out with the force of his will. It’s a miracle that he’s friends with Pico della Mirandola, the Count of Concordia. It’s a miracle that when Girolamo visits the deathbed of Lorenzo “the Magnificent,” the dying Medici is wreathed in celestial light, a surprise to everyone, Lorenzo included. It’s a miracle that when Charles VIII of France invades northern Italy, Girolamo meets him in the field, and convinces him to not only spare Florence but also protect it. It’s a miracle than whenever Girolamo preaches, crowds swoon. It’s a miracle that, despite the Pope’s determination to bring young Girolamo to heel, he’s still on the loose…and, now, running Florence in all but name.
That’s only the beginning. Because Girolamo Savanarola is not who―or what―he thinks he is. He will discover the truth about himself at the most startling possible time. And this will be only the beginning of his many lives.

No Country for Old Gnomes: The Tales of Pell by Delilah S. Dawson & Kevin Hearne
Type: Seconds book in the Tales of Pell Publisher: Del Rey Release date: 4/16/19
War is coming, and it’s gonna be Pell.
On one side stand the gnomes: smol, cheerful, possessing tidy cardigans and no taste for cruelty.
On the other side sit the halflings, proudly astride their war alpacas, carrying bags of grenades and hungry for a fight. And pretty much anything else.
It takes only one halfling bomb and Offi Numminen’s world is turned upside down—or downside up, really, since he lives in a hole in the ground. His goth cardigans and aggressive melancholy set him apart from the other gnomes, as does his decision to fight back against their halfling oppressors. Suddenly Offi is the leader of a band of lovable misfits and outcasts—from a gryphon who would literally kill for omelets to a young dwarf herbalist who is better with bees than with his cudgel to an assertive and cheerful teen witch with a beard as long as her book of curses—all on a journey to the Toot Towers to confront the dastardly villain intent on tearing Pell asunder. These adventurers never fit in anywhere else, but as they become friends, fight mermaids, and get really angry at this one raccoon, they learn that there’s nothing more heroic than being yourself.
In No Country for Old Gnomes, Delilah S. Dawson and Kevin Hearne lovingly tweak the tropes of fantasy and fairy tales. Here you’ll find goofy jokes and whimsical puns, but you’ll also find a diverse, feminist, and lighthearted approach to fantasy that will bring a smile to your face and many fine cheeses to your plate.

Kai and Caleb Goodacre have been kidnapped just as rumors of a cult sweeping across the reservation leads Maggie and Hastiin to investigate an outpost, and what they find there will challenge everything they’ve come to know in this action-packed sequel to Trail of Lightning.
It’s been four weeks since the bloody showdown at Black Mesa, and Maggie Hoskie, Diné monster hunter, is trying to make the best of things. Only her latest bounty hunt has gone sideways, she’s lost her only friend, Kai Arviso, and she’s somehow found herself responsible for a girl with a strange clan power.
Then the Goodacre twins show up at Maggie’s door with the news that Kai and the youngest Goodacre, Caleb, have fallen in with a mysterious cult, led by a figure out of Navajo legend called the White Locust. The Goodacres are convinced that Kai’s a true believer, but Maggie suspects there’s more to Kai’s new faith than meets the eye. She vows to track down the White Locust, then rescue Kai and make things right between them.
Her search leads her beyond the Walls of Dinétah and straight into the horrors of the Big Water world outside. With the aid of a motley collection of allies, Maggie must battle body harvesters, newborn casino gods and, ultimately, the White Locust himself. But the cult leader is nothing like she suspected, and Kai might not need rescuing after all. When the full scope of the White Locust’s plans are revealed, Maggie’s burgeoning trust in her friends, and herself, will be pushed to the breaking point, and not everyone will survive.

The Kingdom of Copper by S.A. Chakraborty
Type: Second in trilogy Publisher: Harper Voyager Release date: 1/22/19
We were very into The City of Brass, S.A. Chakraborty's 2017 fantasy novel about Nahri, a young woman living in 18th-century Cairo, and Ali, a prince living in the djinn city of Daevabad. In the first book, the two both struggle to stay alive, keep the ones they love safe, and use their power in moral ways—they are only partially successful. The Kingdom of Copper picks up five years later, and sees Nahri in a loveless and childless marriage with Ali's older brother, and Ali in exile and presumed dead in the desert. A return to a fantastical world that is just as satisfying and complex (if not moreso) as the trilogy's first installment.

Besides art I make, I'll also on occasion post literary work/tribute/art stuff. Any art related to them is either stuff I did or is found as a reference. This is my perspective of modern hero/tragic hero's in literature; example Othello, Macbeth vs Captain America, Superman.
(Disclaimer: art done by @abigaillarson on @deviantart )
When it comes to meeting the conflict, the evil perceived as a villainous character or force, the one whom the story centers on that stands against it throughout the chain of events will end up either as the classic protagonist or tragic hero. Also in some stories, the saying by the character Harvey Dent from "The Dark Knight" ,"you either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain" is what would come to mind as to the beginning and end of the main character. The classic protagonist or "modern hero" has one of several characteristics that allow the audience to relate to the hero, whether strengths or flaws, but the usually the story ends with some form of happy or good ending for this hero. Whereas tragic heroes have traits or circumstances that the audience will feel sorry for and character flaws that mistakes that lead to the tragic hero's demise or downfall. Othello has the traits of what would be a tragic hero. He is a man of noble stature and qualities belonging to a great leader, as to how he was a part of the Moor-Venetian versus the Turks. But Othello's biggest tragic flaw was in the sin of envy, specifically getting jealous over his wife "supposedly" being intimate with another man. He allowed Iago's subliminally implanted seeds of jealousy overcome his judgement, leading to his other tragic flaw of self control; furthermore, Othello becoming enraged and murdering his wife. The end result was Othello himself, due to his travesty, letting despair devour him and he takes his own life.
A unique example of what could be a modern-day tragic hero is the main antagonist Vlad "Dracula" Tepes from the Netflix adaptation of the "Castlevanie" video game series, inspired by Bram Strokers Dracula to a degree. During the medieval period of Europe in the land of Wallachia, there was a vampire, Dracula, with immense knowledge in philosophy, astronomy, and science but a degree of dislike towards humans, to the point that out disdain he would impale them on sticks very much like our real-life's Vladimir the Impaler and lived in solitude in a moving castle called Castlevania. It wasn't until 1455 when a human woman named Lisa unexpectedly visited him in search of knowledge for she wanted to become a doctor, unafraid of him and challenging him to see that the human world is ever changing. This surprised and interested the vampire eventually, Dracula and Lisa married, the vamp living as a man named "Vlad". They even have a son named Adrian "Alucard" Tepes. At some point Vlad, upon Lisa's behest, explores the world to see how humanity has changed and its worth. Unfortunately in 1475, Vlad was informed as he returned to their cottage home in Targoviste that the church, under false pretenses and charges, burned Lisa at the stake as a witch. Vlad then abandons his life as a man and back to Dracula, appears before masses at the fire, where the public claim him myth, and gives them one year and then he will enact his vengeance. Although the series literally has Dracula going on a very bloody, gory, and savagely violent revenge trip upon the human race, if one pays attention it really is something else. This particaluar aspect is almost hidden when in the beginning Alucard begs and fights his father not to kill innocent people when being told there is no more innocence among our race, to later on this villian faces his a famous vampire hunter of the Belmont lineage, a mage, and his son. The aspect being Dracula's tragic flaw of forgiveness and benevolence; specifically seeing the good in the majority of humans and not the bad in the minority. It especially is finally revealed when Dracula realizes the room he is about to kill Alucard in, his own son's room, that he was just about to kill his and Lisa's boy. The one other part of his world that reminds him that a part of Lisa still lives, their child. In the end it this is not a revenge story, it is a grieve story of a man who had the center of his world taken from him and his chaotic process of going through the stages of grieving.
The changes and similarities suggest a sad outlook in the majority of our nations society in regards to modern peoples views of those who make significant contributions or sacrifices that may help in the future, whether the masses know or not, and when these specific individuals encounter misfortune. Prime examples are male and female veterans of the police force, fire department, and the military specifically those who have been injured or experienced some form of loss. Regretfully we have people in our country who view them no different has cripples and bums since they no longer do or are able ensure their safety, when really its that their comfortable way of live isn't in danger. Yet when some of our precious veterans snap and either do something that is hazardous to others and or themselves, there are those who put their name down even more and those who could have helped but didn't. Lisa was possibly going to get Dracula to share his discoveries in technology, medicine, and research which would have revolutionized civilizations in the long run. As she was burned, there were some possibly knew that Lisa was not a witch but refused to do anything. In his rage and pain Dracula refused to differentiate the wrongful actions of some versus the many, which led to the unnecessary loss of untold lives and forcing Alucard, his own son, in having no choice but to lose both his parents. Overall, this shows that some in modern society values others that can protect, serve, show admirable qualities, and or greatly help us as long as they can keep doing so.

The Myth of Calypso
Okay, GUESS WHO FINALLY FINISHED FINALS????? I AM DONE WITH SCHOOL, JUST A WEEK OF WATCHING MOVIES AND THEN SUMMER BEGINS!!!
Without further ado, here’s the ever so important myth of Calypso. Since it was finals week, I used this little filler as a way to actual have something to offer without out burning myself out. All lot of the myth will directly relate to future events, so keep that in mind when I utterly destroy your hearts and just laugh when you cry that you had no warning >:)
(FYI, all the sides (including Thomas) are in this story. Some are more obvious to figure out; leave a comment saying who you think is who, I wanna to know who you think each Side is represented by)
Alright, now to the story! :)
In a world not known to others, a dimension shielded by our naivety, there was a little girl whose strength matched any grown man’s. She had fire in her eyes and anger in her soul, furious at the slow crumbling of her world as others did naught but sit and watch the world burn. The name of the girl bequeathed to her by her parents is no longer known, lost to time and space. She is known only by the name given to her: Calypso, conqueror of the dark.
Young Calypso saw the world burning to flames like parchment paper in a library fire and knew her world was lost. In her silver eyes, she could see the beast whose fingers clutched the world in a vice-like grip, whose sweet and melodic whispers reminded the girl of her mother’s voice, though the warmth inside was not love, but the flames of hell.
The seeing-girl wondered why none of her friends could see this looming beast who was bringing forth their doom, this death-loving creature of ash that spoke as loud as a clash of thunder. She tried to warn her beloveds that this creature was not to be trusted or listened to, but as she looked upon their eyes, she saw the glaze slicked over their unseeing orbs like early-morning dew and realized they now belonged to the beast.
   She couldn’t save them.
Calypso screamed until her throat was strained and wept until her eyes could cry no longer, asking the heavens why she could not save those who meant most to her, when a speck of light floated before her like a miniature angel of life. Bewildered, the girl withheld her whimpers of sorrow to listen to the light that floating before her, a messenger of destiny. It told her to dry her tears, for in another world she would find her family once more.
The guardian whispered to her tales of a world just beyond her reach, one she was destined to save. It told of her of planets where crystals grew off tree branches, where the fantasy creatures she had only dreamed about walked and breathed, where palaces touched skies the color of peaches and emeralds. The beast, the light told her, scours thither, too. The beast could only be defeated by a child of the light, the messenger said. She could save this world.
But Calypso couldn’t leave her friends. She loved them too deeply to allow them to wither away without her by her side. And so the guardian showed her a vision of the other world. There, she saw four beings of different walks of life, still unaware of their fates. These beings, the light promised, would be thy family. Thy friends. Thy loves. Thy world.
The tears brimming in the silver eyes of the goddess-child dried slowly, like a rain puddle after a storm when the heavenly rays of the sun caressed its surface. “Can you promise I’ll be able to save these people if the beast grips them?” she asked. The messenger promised the events of her life in this world were not to be repeated. The divine heart beating in her chest began to race, unsure of the decision she should take.
“And why is it that I was the one chosen to go to this secret world?” Calypso asked, her voice weak and trembling. The guardian remained silent for three counts before telling the troubled child that it was the will of the world-walkers, that it was her fate, the story written in her blood upon the scroll of history. The light told her that though her heart refused to accept the fate of her beloved friends, she could rescue countless others if she accepted her own fate.
The silver eyes of the holy girl closed with decision, at last convinced of her divine destiny. “Then I shall do what is dictated for me in the irreversible memory of storytellers.” With that, the light grew, blinding the young child with its power. She threw her hands in front of her face, protecting her precious eyes from the will of the heavens.
When she opened her eyelids, awe overtook the holy woman as she looked around at the new world unraveling before her, eager to share with her all of its untold secrets. Before her stood a being she called an angel, one she had read about as a little girl.
“Take my hand, Calypso, warrior of the worlds, champion of the righteous,” the angel told her. “Be not afraid, for thou hast more power than thou believe thyself capable of containing. Take my hand, divine being, and I shall teach thee the ways of this world.” Calypso looked around again, at the bustling wildlife moving past her, at the earth that seemed to breathe with her, at the angel in front of her, their wings outspread as if welcoming her home. Breathing in the sparkling air that filled her lungs, she reached out a hand, grasping the concrete palm on the angel, proving the truth of the world.
A deafening roar echoed across the universe, and Calypso fell to her bloodied knees, covering her ears against the blood-curdling shrieks. “Young child, dost thou hear why this world needs thee?” The terrified woman nodded meekly, unable to rise until the pounding screams of the damned faded. “Find the strength within thee, goddess of purity, and thee shall vanquish the wretched evil that threatens the very existence of every world,” the angel urged.
Calypso rose at last, having seen a vision as the beast screamed of a perfect world where harmony and love ruled justly, corrupted by a world where infants coughed up ash and parents mourned the loss of children taken by weapons no man should have ever made. She yearned for the first, a utopia she had the power to create, the power to save.
“Please,” the divine woman begged, “I want to at least save something.” The angel grew stoic. “Teach me how to defeat the beast, how to save the ones I hold dear, how to save myself,” she pleaded.
“I cannot teach thee how to fulfill thy destiny. In thy soul, thou know'st how to conqueror the unconquerable. I can only provide thee guidance, protect thee as thy soul is nurtured,” the angel told the holy woman. “Come hither, savior. We’ve many a task at hand to prepare thyself for the coming battle.” With that, the angel’s grip tightened. Wings unfolded, massive and blinding and powerful, the color of justice and ethereal harmony and ever reminiscent of the rainbows that had dotted the sky of Calypso’s homeworld. The angel took Calypso took their home, where creatures of myth took hold of Calypso’s hands, guiding her to a small room. They told her she would sleep on the humble cot made of wool and sticks for the night before the angel would return to begin her training.
The creatures left before the young woman could ask what training the angel meant to subject her to. As the next morning sun rose, so did Calypso, roused from her sleep by the angel, who in silence offered her a blade the colors of the night skies at home, saying, “Rise, gallant warrior. There is much to learn.”
Years passed as the holy woman grew older and stronger, the fire in her eyes burning brighter. Finally, the angel decided, the goddess-woman was ready to meet her Generals. In the midst of a swordfight, the angel told Calypso to come with them, taking her hand the same way she had the first time she had looked upon the world of light. Though confused, the holy woman followed her guardian into a path of marble and sandstone, where four beings waited, talking amongst themselves.
“Young warrior, thou art strong alone. But with thy Generals at thy side as protectors and friends, thy shall be able to vanquish the despicable beast. I shall introduce them,” the angel stated as the beings known as the Generals paused their conversation. They waved forward one with eyes the color of violets in summertime. “This is the Mage.”
“Hello, Calypso,” greeted the Mage, shy and quiet. He bowed his head, Calypso answering with the same gesture of respect.
“This is the Warrior,” the angel told the divine woman as a man with eyes the color of glittering rubies stepped forward, bowing deeply.
“My most humble greetings, sweet Calypso,” hailed the Warrior as he straightened, his red coattails flapping in the wind.
“This is the Scholar.” The winged being gestured to a man with eyes the color of the ocean at midnight who nodded his head curtly.
“Salutations, Calypso the conqueror,” acknowledged the Scholar, whose eyes beheld warmth despite his cold demeanor.
   “And this is the Lover.”
A happy being skipped forward to embrace the startled woman. “I’m so happy to finally meet you, dear Calypso!” exclaimed the Lover, who eyes reminded Calypso of the sky on a clear day absent of clouds. The Lover released Calypso, returning to his ranks beside the other Generals.
“Do ye Generals, the Mage, the Warrior, the Scholar, and the Lover, swear to protect the Vanquisher, Calypso, until she hast fulfilled what destiny has been bestowed upon her?” The Generals each nodded in turn, speaking in tongues as they responded to the angel’s demand. “Then I shall leave ye in peace, to commune and to congregate. Farewell, holy woman. May Fate be kind to thee.” Without another sound, the angel disappeared, never to return again.
Calypso understood she no longer needed the guidance of the angel; now that she was strong of heart, there was little the angel could do to protect her. The beast would begin hunting her.
“Fair maiden, it is my honor to present you with a gift, given to us by the angel that brought us together,” the Warrior said, reaching into the depths of his cape. From its shadows, he brought out a stone, crystal and transparent, reflecting all sorts of colors upon the pathway. “This is what the beast seeks. We have protected it until your arrival, for if this stone fell into the hands of the beast, its power would be unstoppable. The second you touch it, m’lady, the beast will know where you are. We have trained for eons in many different forms for this moment. When the beast comes, you must kill it. Are you ready for the moment you’ve trained for, m’lady, or shall we postpone this event?” asked the Warrior. Calypso had no words to speak for her gaze was lost in the stone, marveling at its perfection and beauty.
“What is it called?” the goddess-woman inquired.
“It is known as the Gazer Stone,” the Scholar replied. “It contains a great power, one that should have never been harnessed.” Calypso continued to study the strange stone.
“Not here, then,” the woman decided. “A place where we can fight unconfined, a place where our abilities will be able to flourish and aide us in the battle.” The divine woman paused, a dark feeling swirling in the pit of her stomach. She brushed it off, pushing forward. “My home. There are savage lands there that stretch for miles.”
It was decided. The goddess-woman, using the knowledge she had gained throughout her training, shut her eyes and whispered an incantation the angel had taught her. Opening her heaven-painted lids, her gaze fell upon the lands she had once called her home, in a time she had nearly forgotten.
“Is this where the battle shall take place?” one of the Generals asked. Calypso nodded, sighing as she took in the desert that expanded unto the horizon, not a soul in sight. A single hare hopped across the barren sands that melted into the soles of the divine woman’s slippers, the only sign if life in the wasteland Calypso hardly recognized as her home. Some much change had befallen the lands in her absence. Perhaps, now she could set her world to rest in its insipid grave.
The Warrior brought out the Stone from his cape, holding it gingerly. “Shall we begin the final battle, m’lady?” he asked. Calypso stared at the Stone glittering in the burning sun and placed her fingers on it. All at once, the sky blackened and a scream ripped through the desolate desert. Calypso, concerned for the safety of the Stone, placed the Stone within her heart, for the beast had arrived.
A tornado of emotions plagued the holy woman as her Generals withdrew their weapons; the Warrior drew a sword made of gold and joy, the Scholar brought forth two handheld daggers curved like scythes, the Lover shapeshifted in a creature of terrifying power, and the Mage held up his hands, his eyes glowing violet as he cast enchantments.
Young Calypso searched the horizon, expecting to see a monster approaching her. But all her eyes caught was a lone figure on the dunes of sand, limping forward with a stagger. “Who’s that?” the woman asked her Generals. They all answered that they did not recognize the mysterious person.
The figure grew closer, cloaked in shadows and depravity. Eyes the color of an amber sun peeked out from eyelids that flickered closed, begging for the sweet release of slumber. “Young child,” the figure called. “An offer of assistance is needed. I cannot find my way home, and the sun shall soon set on a scavenger’s residence.” Calypso went to the figure to find a young man with one leg twisted like the truth, amber eyes glowing in spite of the fiery star up above that painted the landscape in light.
The man grinned like a liar who knows he has gotten away with his deceit as his wide eyes watched the divine lady of the heavens. “Dear Calypso, do you know what powers are concealed by your naivety?”
The heavenly woman jolted back, the grip of the Generals on their weapons tightening.
“How is it you know my name?” she demanded as the Generals came forth to protect the savior.
The man cackled, letting his head fall back to address the heavens. “Divine Calypso, all beings know of your name: ‘Calypso, the conqueror,’ ‘Calypso, the vanquisher,’ ‘Calypso, the savior,’ and many other lies. For me to not know the being that is you, why, that is unacceptable!”
What happened next was lost to the mysteries of the universe, whispers gone silent as the truth they harbored became unspeakable for beings unenlightened. Some say that Calypso struck the man, angering the beast within. Others weave a tale of years the mysterious newcomer spent with the Savior and her Generals before revealing the true masked nature inside. Even others claim that Calypso saw right away the eldritch demon and began the battle posthaste. But the stars shall never reveal the history they were witness to, and so Calypso’s story shall remain half hidden in shadows, rumors emerging like the dead from its dark clutches.
All that can be said is that the beast revealed himself to the Savior at one point or another along the chronology of the universe. And when the utter truth lay bare before the eyes of the divine woman, all chaos broke loose, baring its brazen teeth with wild ferocity. The battle that would seal the fate of both of Calypso’s worlds had begun.
The Generals drew their weapons as shadows shot up, soldiers summoned from the other world, prepared to risk their very lives to protect the world they called home. On the side of the beast of ashen death stood monsters conjured from nightmares and the darkest niches of man’s immortal mind. Calypso stood in front of the army that had risen behind her without warning, insecurity ravishing her nerves. These innocents would sacrifice themselves for the holy woman’s victory. She couldn’t let them down.
The beast, its body made of a hurricane of ash and smoke woven together with human hatred and anger, swayed as it grew until it towered over the celestial Calypso and her army. Its pure white eyes gleamed as it foresaw the destruction it would wreck as soon as its inky fingers touched the Gazer Stone. A smile full of teeth sharp enough to rip delicate flesh crossed the beast’s smoky mouth.
“Darling Calypso, are you ready to see who shall first succumb to the will of the immortal gods who watch our crusade?” the beast asked. Its eyes scoured the wasteland, its infernal gaze landing on Calypso’s Generals. “Young Generals, why do you feel the need to shelter this pathetic creature? What if she doesn’t win, and all your lives have been wasted? What will you do when you find out all this time, you were preparing for nothing, wasted your precious youth for nothing but a little girl who will lead you to your doom?”
“Shut up!” one of the Generals cried suddenly. The Mage stepped forward, his violet eyes near black as his eyes scorned the beast towering above him. “Calypso is a hope for my world. If she can save it, save my friends and family, everything I love, then I will protect her without hesitation. If she can save me from myself…” the Mage spared a glance at the goddess-woman, certain of the bond she would forge with her Generals for generations to arrive. “...then I would give my life in exchange for hers,” he declared. The Warrior stepped forward, the Lover and the Scholar reciprocating their companion’s motions, until the four of them stood just behind the savior, staring down the demonic beast with defiance.
“I shall valiantly sacrifice my life if it means saving Calypso and our worlds,” the Warrior added.
   “And I,” said the Scholar.
“And me, too,” the Lover finished.
The beast eyed the four brave Generals, a low cackle emerging from its mouth. “Then I shall vanquish you first,” it uttered as it grew ever more so in size. It opened its mouth, canines the color of pearls visible underneath the charcoal ash. From the depths of its throat billowed clouds the color of death and deceit, depravity and despair. The clouds became ashen vines that reached out for any sign of life and happiness.
The Generals turned their weapons of choice on the approaching vines to no avail. They raced forward, branching off as they grasped the Generals with unrelenting fury. The Mage yelped in terror and one long vine overtook him, grabbing him like a crooked, gnarled hand. It began racing back towards the omniscient beast as the Mage’s companions tried their best to rescue their friend. Calypso let out a shriek of terror as the Mage was dragged across the harsh lands, his hands clawing at the ground racing beneath him, desperate for traction that would release him from the clutches of the smoky vines.
“Let him go!” the divine woman yelled, her words propelled with the force of a thousand waterfalls. As if they had been slapped, the vines jolted back, releasing the Mage as the scurried back to the beast, who snarled angrily. The Mage leaped off of the desert ground and ran for his dear ones, falling into their embrace with heaving pants, his breath erratic and his eyes full of panic.
“Stupid girl!” the beast seethed, its wispy limbs swirling furiously. “You can’t play defensive forever!” It lashed out another horde of vines, smashing into the holy woman’s army, crushing the innocents.
And the holy woman breathed fire upon the land, ravaging the fallen with the purity of her soul. She screamed, “Begone, wretched creature of darkness! Leave the goodness of this world, retire to your universe and be content to rule over those who have strayed.”
The beast, which stood as tall as the heavens themselves, only laughed. Its voice shook the very ground, and all but Calypso fell. She alone stood fast against the mighty but terrible creature before her, and she alone had the strength to stop it. From the depths of her heart she brought out the strange, glittering stone. The monster tilted its head, its eyes locking on the mineral.
“Is this what you seek, traveler of the corrupted worlds?’ she asked. The beast hissed, transforming into one familiar to the valiant warriors. It slid closer, speaking from its mind to all those concerned.
“Give me the Stone, darling, and you can end this. You can save your people, your friends, and yourself. Wouldn’t you like to play hero?’ it said. The silver eyes of the goddess-woman lit up in anger, mist swirling around her, bending to her will.
“The only true way to save the ones I love is by protecting the Gazer Stone.” The creature snarled, whipping its tail towards nearby bystanders. In an instant, they fell to the ground, to rise back up no longer. Calypso shrieked as the beast turned its gaze back towards her. Swallowing, she asked, “You want this?” The creature nodded, sliding ever so closer.
   “Then come and get it.”
Haha this was me trying (and failing) to sound old and mysterious. I spent about a day analyzing the language of ancient myths to try and write like one. It didn’t help, apparently, but oh well. :)
Anywho, I hope you all enjoyed the next installment of Starbound! Feel free to leave me any questions or comments you have, and leave me any critiques you have (I know I need it haha). Let me know if you want to be added or removed from the tag list, and I’ll be happy to do so! :D
(do I sound professional now?)

Fateful Meeting
Exerpt from The Mage's Lantern (Chapter 2, The Hero) in sketched comic form. Click for better quality.
I couldn't get a good quality shot of the page 💔
Small update: I'm making a lot of progress on little worldbuilding/imaginary gameplay posts atm, as well as a Master Post for this AU! It's going well. :)
Read The Mage's Lantern on Ao3!
For a little over a decade, the Kingdom of Hyrule has been reshaped by a curse of eternal storms. A vengeful mage and his master, a sorcerer who was once an ordinary man before being driven to insanity, have laid waste to all lands within their magical border. When a young boy named Link finds his own motivations piling up, he joins a fire spirit and a runaway princess to save not only those they have lost; but perhaps those who remain.

Flemeth (Tv Tropes "Origins")
Affably Evil: In keeping with her being Ambiguously Evil, she's always immensely polite, gives good advice, would rather compromise than fight, and saves the lives of the protagonists in the first and second story. Of course, according to Morrigan she's forced her daughter to watch her rape and murder men, gains her immortality by stealing the bodies of her daughters, and her plan in the first story all along was to get Morrigan impregnated with the soul of an Old God. Still, for all that, she acts like someone's batty grandmother.
Age Without Youth: In her myths, she was the World's Most Beautiful Woman. When Ilona meets her, she's an old hag. Morrigan claims Flemeth takes over her daughters' bodies to regain her youth.
Ambiguously Evil: There are plenty of stories about Flemeth doing evil things, but you never actually see her commit any truly atrocious acts. Morrigan, for instance, claims Flemeth is a body snatcher, but Morrigan is also a liar as manipulative as her mother.
Ambiguously Human: So mysterious and powerful that some state disbelief that she's even a person at all but rather something...else. Inquisition reveals she's the Elven goddess Mythal merged with a human woman.
Body Surf: Morrigan claims Flemeth raises daughters and teaches them magic so that she can easily possess them.
Captain Ersatz: Shares many elements with Baba Yaga, as an Ambiguously Evil centuries old decrepit witch who lives in a hut deep in the forest and most consider nothing but a legend with which to frighten children. Much like Baba Yaga, some of the stories about Flemeth involve kidnapping and eating children as well; Flemeth herself rolls her eyes at that notion. "As if I had nothing better to do!"
The Chooser of The One: She comes after Duncan, but she's the only reason Ilona and Alistair survive Ostagar. She repeats this with Areida Hawke in the next story.
Cryptic Conversation: She talks in nothing but hints and riddles, and will generally tell Ilona to come to her own conclusions instead of asking her to give them to her.
Death by Sex: Morrigan claims that this is one of her favourite pastimes, luring Chasind men to her bed only to kill them afterwards.
Demonic Possession: Some of her legends claim she's a centuries old mage possessed by a demon. Most people who meet her agree she's something even scarier than an Abomination though.
The Dreaded: Fereldan mothers frighten their children by telling them Flemeth will come to get them if they don't behave, and even adults are uneasy at the mention of of the legendary "Witch of the Wilds".
Enemy Mine/Evil Versus Evil: Subverted. She suggests that this is the reason she rescued the Wardens from Ostagar and is sending Morrigan with them, but as it turns out, she has other reasons.
Even Evil Has Standards: One of her legends involves a nobleman buying Flemeth from the witch's destitute husband on Flemeth's suggestion. But when the nobleman has her former husband killed instead, Flemeth slaughters the nobleman and his entire estate. In Morrigan's version, Flemeth did it because she refused to be married to a man with no honor. Interestingly, the castle the nobleman ruled was Highever, and the chain of events she set off led to Sarim Cousland's ascension to Bann, and the eventual creation of the Teyrnir of Highever. (This is particularly interesting with Ilona being the youngest child of the Cousland family, since it suggests that Flemeth set events in motion centuries ago which led to Ilona being the one to save the world.)
Evil Laugh: A brief but spooky one, when she seems little more than a Talkative Loon.
Flemeth: "Oh, don't mind me. You have what you came for."
The Fair Folk: The Dalish Elves see her as a legendary and dangerous spirit of untold power, Asha'bellanar.
Familial Body Snatcher: The true source of Flemth's immortality.
Grand Theft Me: Morrigan claims the secret to Flemeth's immortality is that she keeps transferring her spirit into new bodies (specifically, those of her daughters).
Hand Wave: No explanation is ever offered for why she rescues Alistair and Ilona from the Tower of Ishal. Once the truth about the dark ritual is revealed, it does make more sense; however, while her rescue of Alistair is understandable with regards to the ritual, it's never explained why she would trouble herself to rescue Ilona. On the other hand, this may have been a simple case of foresight; we know from The Darkspawn Chronicles that alone, Alistair would have failed utterly.
Hidden Agenda Villain: She has some sort of questionable plan involving the Old Gods, dragons, and more. However, the goal or even the specifics of this plan are left entirely unknown through the first two stories.
Humanoid Abomination: In Witch Hunt, Morrigan states that Flemeth may look human, but she's something far worse than a demon, blood mage, or abomination. In Dragon Age II, Anders is somewhat unnerved that Justice doesn't know what she is either. Dragon Age: Inquisition reveals that she is apparently the Elven goddess Mythal possessing a human woman.
Hyper Awareness: Seems to be at least somewhat aware of Ilona Cousland and Areida Hawke’s coming destinies just by having a look at them. The first time Ilona meets her she offhandedly bemoans that Ser Jory is unlikely to survive, but it is not her place to choose.
I Have Many Names: Fereldans call her "The Witch of the Wilds". The Dalish elves, meanwhile, call her "Asha'bellanar" (the Woman of Many Years). Even "Flemeth" is just the Chasinds name for her.
Alistair: “What do we call you? You never told us your name.“
Flemeth: “Names are pretty, but useless. The Chasind call me Flemeth; I suppose it will do.”
I Was Quite a Looker: Though rather elderly looking when Ilona meets her, Flemeth's stories claim she was legendarily beautiful and attracted suitors from all over the world.
Meaningful Name: The Dalish refer to her as Asha'bellanar, the "Woman of Many Years," hinting at her power and apparent immortality.
Mrs. Robinson: Given her immense age, this is technically in effect with any man she supposedly lures to her bed before killing them.
Multiple-Choice Past: There are multiple separate accounts of her origins, ranging from a powerful demon possessing female apostates through the ages, to a beautiful mage who became an Abomination to take revenge on the man who killed her husband, to some sort of shadowy fallen god.
Never Mess with Granny: She may seem like an unassuming, dotty old woman, but she can also turn into a dragon and rip your head off.
No Need for Names: Discussed.
Flemeth: “Names are pretty, but useless. The Chasind folk call me Flemeth. I suppose it'll do.”
Noodle Incident: Flemeth did something horrible to the Templars over the ages who tried to hunt her, though the specifics are never revealed.
Older Than They Look: Certainly, she looks old, but not as old as she actually is.
One-Winged Angel: Turns into a giant purple dragon in battle.
The Plan: Morrigan was sent with Alistair and Ilona in Origins in order to forward Flemeth's unknown plan involving resurrecting an Old God in a human body.
Progressively Prettier: Her witch form in Dragon Age II, while still aged, is far better looking than the liver-spotted old hag she appears as in Origins.
Really 700 Years Old: Lampshaded by the Dalish, whose name for her translates as "the Woman of Many Years."
Retired Monster: Despite the horrific acts she is said to have committed in her legends, these days she just quietly lives in a hut deep in the woods. It eventually turns out she's just biding her time while her daughters act out different elements of her unknown plan.
Scaled Up: In battle, she transforms into a dragon.
Shapeshifter Default Form: In the second story, she half-jokingly points out that for all Hawke knows, the dragon could actually be her real form and it's the witch that is merely the illusion.
Shrouded in Myth: Her history has been told so many times as a legend that no one knows what the truth is - except for Morrigan, who heard it firsthand from her mother and believes that Flemeth's own version is the true one.
So Beautiful, It's a Curse: In her backstory, her legendary beauty and men's desire for her dictated the course of her entire life. While she has a Multiple-Choice Past, every version of her tale agrees that she was beautiful and that such beauty brought her no joy in life.
Solitary Sorceress: Flemeth initially appears to be just an elderly "apostate" mage hiding out in the wilderness from the Chantry's enforcers when you first meet her.
Tyke Bomb: Morrigan is the latest of many daughters she's raised to terrorize the Korcari Wilds. And provide her with a new body for when her current one gets too old.
Unreliable Narrator: Her legend has undergone Adaptation Decay over the centuries. While Morrigan tells Ilona what Flemeth claims is her true past, she notes that it is unwise to take anything that Flemeth says at face value, though she believes her story is the most accurate. In Witch Hunt, Morrigan says that Flemeth isn't a human, a blood mage, or an abomination. How long she hasn't been human, or if she ever was, is unknown.
Voluntary Shapeshifting
Wham Line: Alistair reacts this way when she reveals her identity.
Alistair: (stunned) “The Flemeth? From the legends?”
Wicked Witch: The Chasind seem to think so. She's old, wrinkled, lives in a cottage in the middle of nowhere, cackles, and is rumored to be widowed and a stealer of children. ("As if I had nothing better to do!")

Newest release from UK’s MARKOSIA COMICS blends history, fantasy and horror to tell the untold story of the Black Death.
Once again leading the way in cutting-edge storytelling, Markosia brings the past of the British Isles to life in their edgy newest release. Reframing the story of the bubonic plague as a tale of good versus evil and magic versus faith, PLAGUE is Inspired by actual people and events of the 16th century and uses extensive research of long held folklore beliefs to tell the story of THE FEY; magical creatures of myth and legend being hunted by a corrupt Catholic Church.
#gallery-0-4 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-4 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-4 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-4 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
By drawing on modern themes of immigration, refugees, despotism and religious zealotry, PLAGUE is a genre-bending historical fantasy. Drawing heavily from Bakshi’s animated interpretation of the “The Hobbit” and historical fiction a la Eco’s “In The Name of the Rose” and Follett’s “The Pillars of the Earth”, we hope that PLAGUE manages to feel 500 years old and fresh at the same time.
