“I’m not vegan because of the cruel conditions of agricultural workers” and what about the slaughter workers who are struggling with ptsd? or the people in their household dealing with the violence they bring home? or the workers who go home and attempt to end their literal lives because of the graphic violence they enact daily? you don’t support amazon because of it’s cruel working conditions, yet slaughterhouse workers experience the exact same, if not far worse. you don’t go vegan because of the poor treatment towards people picking vegetables or growing quinoa, yet you don’t solely live off of meat and dairy and are buying unethically sourced vegetables anyways? why would you cause harm to both slaughterhouse workers and vegetable agriculture workers when you could reduce one of them to 0?

Oh I am loathing this American-ification of everything.
I got an early appointment in the city tomorrow and I figured hey, why not treat myself to breakfast afterward. And since I hate walking into a place, seeing the menu and thinking "nope" and having to walk out again, I figured I'd look it up online first.
I've looked through the menus of ten cafés now and only found two that actually have... normal German breakfast.
Every other place has shit like avocado toast, "breakfast bowls" (stop putting all foods into one bowl I am biting you, meals belong on plates), American pancakes with maple syrup, bagels, porridge, hummus (for breakfast?!).
And look, I am not objecting to also including trendy American foods on your menu, but if these are the only options you offer and I can't find a single traditional German breakfast on your menu, then that is just... devastating, to me.
If you're a gimmick café that is specifically American cuisine, that would also be different, but a regular, German café needs to offer a regular, German breakfast.
It should absolutely include at the very-fucking-least the most basic German breakfast platter - bread rolls, hard-boiled egg, marmalade, butter, wurst and/or cheese, and the option to pay more for salmon or a croissant. That's the basic "I am going out to have breakfast at a café" menu. The one on every breakfast menu, for as long as I can remember going out for breakfast.
I can acknowledge that for reasons beyond my personal taste, people really love avocados. But if your menu includes three variations of avocado toast but not a single cheese or wurst option - and you are not an explicitly vegan place, like, there is bacon on this menu too - then something is just really, really fucked up here.

So many times I’ve seen people on here be like wowww it’s so funny seeing ppl rage over vegans 😁!! ….. these people genuinely have no idea what they’re talking about. If you mention all their stuff being made of plastic they cover their ears and go lalala like they’re 5. I’m sorry but it DOES make me mad. I wish your passion for the environment could go somewhere actually useful and not to blissful ignorance and even environmental harm. -_-

HOLY SHIT MY MOM ADOPTES BUNNIES
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Their names are Princess (piebald female) and Chewie (brown tortie male), and I'm super excited to meet them!! They're a bonded pair of siblings who already got rehomed twice for apparently being somewhat standoffish, but given how much of a sassy queen Celeste used to be, that's not gonna be a problem with our family XD Princess's name is also gonna be lengthened to 'Princess Leia' to make for a proper Leia and Chewbacca pair
Not as excited about the fact that the adoption agency required an application to be filled out including the whole setup and past qualifications before even getting to see them, or the fact that they charged a $125 adoption fee upfront 'plus extras' that ended up being $440 total for the pair, PLUS they required a mandatory grooming class because the leader thinks that rabbit grooms must be a MINIMUM of 4hrs to prevent GI stasis and that anything less will apparently kill your bunny, but my mom really wanted these bunnies so I'm happy she got them even tho both she and I are pissed about that)

Tw smoking mention and generally giving up on humanity-
I really don’t know how to get people to go vegan anymore. I’m just a bit dead inside about the whole thing.
I think I just like arguing the logic and facts of it, pointing out the cognitive dissonance of it all and letting them make their own choice, because trying to make an emotional argument to people who don’t care makes me want to take up smoking. I can’t afford that.
Being vegan is cool but it killed a lot of my faith in humanity lol.
Anyway non vegans. You probably would not pay someone to kill a dog for five minutes of idk wearing a dog fur hat or whatever. You would do that to a pig. If you saw the pig irl and before they dragged him off for a bacon sandwich you probably would not want to get the bacon sandwich as much. So you’ve probably not seen the slaughter process or the factory farming because neither you or the business want that. You likely don’t feel that way about spinach.
Discuss or whatever idk

hi! in regards to your dilemma about what oil to use, the rule of thumb i've found is to avoid using seed oil unless its wood-pressed and/or cold-pressed, which unfortunately is more expensive. usually olive oils is a safe one, since it comes from the 'fruit' for a lack of a better word.
also ghee is great as a cooking medium, if you're not vegan! a lot of indian stores usuallly sell them at better prices than mainstream supermarkets.
good luck for healthy eating!
Thanks! Yeah I've always used a ton of olive oil in cold preparation & low heat cooking, but I only recently read that all seed oils are bad. I used to use canola oil in cooking quite a lot but now I use butter, ghee, olive oil & occasionally avocado oil. The main problem is that seed oils are in sooo much store bought stuff that I didn't even realize was unhealthy and ultraprocessed. They really add it to fucking everything it's so annoying! Even a lot of plant based milks which I thought were healthy are full of disgusting crap so I'm sticking to dairy milk now.

Sometimes I think about food as a love language. I went out to get seafood as lunch with my great aunt (and other family members) and we got crab. As she’s cracking open the crabs, she mentions how a specific part is her favorite, and then immediately offers it to her husband. My great-grandmother’s memory is starting to go a bit, and a few years ago I started digitalizing some of her recipes so that she’d have a copy all in one place rather than old tins everywhere in her kitchen, and I shared the Google document with the whole family. When she passes, the only thing my mom wants of hers for certain is her cutting board because of the food memories attached to it. We all covet the queso recipe from the Mexican place some of the family used to own. Every time we’re in Boulder we try to go to the restaurant my great-grandmother’s twin’s husband used to own. We bake cookies for each other every time we see each other. I know my favorite cookies are ginger snaps, my mom’s are oatmeal chocolate chip, my grandmother’s are pecan sandies. My great-grandmother makes those cookies when we come over. Idk. I’m just thinking about food as a love language.

I have to take antibiotics this week. Some bacteria decided to set up shop in my body.
There is lactose in these meds. Perhaps there are antibiotics made without. There must be, for those who are lactose intolerant. I didn't ask, because I didn't know until I had the box in my hands. It doesn't matter. I'm not less vegan when I have to take medication that contains animal products or that was tested on animals. This is the way our world is organised, not something I can control.
The recommendation is to take them with food, and that three times a day. Currently, I am lucky if I manage to get two meals a day into my body. My stomach does not want to participate. So I have smaller meals, hope it is enough. What counts as food?
In both cases, the same rule applies: all you can do is your best.
