Being “triggered” is not the same as being “offended.”

You choose what you are offended by and that is your responsibility.

Real triggers live in your body and they are not your responsibility.

They are a result of trauma that is inflicted on us directly or indirectly by someone else or by an experience.

What is our responsibility is getting to know ourselves and healing and better understanding and equipping ourselves for when our triggers happen.

Because triggers happen.

We do not create nor activate real triggers independently.

Most important though— is forgiving your own self for having normal natural reactions to triggering experiences.

Last night our neighbors threw us a send-off party and our hearts are overwhelmed with the sweet spirit of community we have enjoyed the last 16 years in our house. They’ve taught us about faith, family, community, hospitality, and prayer. From block parties with a fire truck for the kids to explore, to front yard play dates with brand new puppies, to potluck dinners in the street or in my neighbors’ garage, to our morning conversations we have with one another from our front porches....I will forever be filled with gratitude for the role they played in our lives. Thank you Indianapolis Avenue. You will forever be in hearts and we are taking your example and love with us to duplicate in Waco!

The whole of our Shared World is one giant reactive environment for #AllOfUs and the natural innate ability that we have when we are born into this world is warped by external influences that surround us.

And, that's not even taking into account babies that are born with physical afflictions from the womb...

Just living in this lifetime on this planet is one big major survival-based life event for all of us— even if you may have certain financial means and resources to have a certain level of comfort to be able to sit in an otherwise sheltered bubble.

What's touted as "healthy coping" is often simply shoving us into actual maladaptation to things that we're otherwise told we need to accept as "normal" and this is a baseline of what Women experience especially.

Sometimes, you realize that you are so "successfully" "adapted" and "coping" throughout your life that you weren't even able to recognize the massive dysfunction and resulting dissociation and dysregulation for what it was,

what it is.

It can be really helpful to confront the awful underlying horrific nightmare that is your actual reality and funnel your own energy into healing yourself— which is not the same as this f**ked up concept of "forgiveness" that gets thrown around a lot— especially at Women holding those who mistreat and abuse us directly accountable for their own corresponding choices.
