BCS HC's because I've been up all night and the brain rot is unreal
JIMMY/SAUL:
(More Saul?) Loves himself a cocktail, the sweeter the better. Fruity cocktails for a fruity little man. Only thing he can’t stand about them is how overpriced they are, no matter where he orders them.
Very strongly considered buying rings when he married Kim. Something about the symbolism stuck with him and really wanted their marriage, business arrangement or not, to present as more “socially official.” Would’ve definitely had them engraved with Wexler-McGill on the inside of the bands, too.
Eventually became pretty good at the guitar. Still struggles with tuning it and has, on more than one occasion, had a meltdown while attempting to replace broken strings.
Loves his white Cadillac, but definitely misses his Esteem.
KIM:
Smokes whatever cigarettes are on hand but is a ride-or-die menthol enjoyer.
The only person allowed to call her “Kimmy” is her mother. Jimmy tried once and wound up in a long,  long conversation about her distaste of the nickname.
Similarly, she doesn’t go by her full first name (at least professionally) because she feels it’s too preppy/thinks Kimberly Wexler sounds too much like the name of a ditzy blonde side character in a John Hughes movie.
Talkative drunk. Will have a conversation with anyone about nearly anything. Out for drinks and there’s a game on TV? She’s chatting up the nearest patron about every. single. play. Song she recognizes comes on the radio? She’s breaking down the lyrics, symbolism, and the artist’s motivation for writing it. Will apologize profusely the next morning for “talking too much.” Jimmy, naturally, finds it absolutely adorable and insists she shouldn’t feel bad.
NACHO:
Extremely shy as a child!
Grew up listening to/singing along with classic Mexican love songs and sings them softly to himself when completing any sort of task that doesn’t require a lot of focus. Very few people have actually heard him sing, but those who have all tell him he has a lovely voice.
He’d be lying if he said he disliked Lalo calling him “Nachito.”
Huge fan of an ice-cold Coke Zero.
Easily cries at tv shows and movies, most notably if there’s a trope pertaining to a father and son. Less than five seconds into a commercial for the ASPCA/Humane Society and he has tears in his eyes.
LALO:
In the rare instances he’s able to sleep more than an hour or two at a time, he snores. LOUD. Like, keeping the house up half the night loud.
If it wasn’t for his responsibilities to the “family business,” he would have pursued work as either a professional chef or professional hitman. Yes, the two couldn’t be farther from each other. Yes, they somehow both make total sense.
Would’ve 1000% slept with Nacho or Jimmy if the situation presented itself.
Opposite to Nacho, he was an extremely outgoing child. He was the type of kid to wander off with other children or walk up to total strangers and introduce himself.
Initially bothered by how quickly his hair went grey, but once he found out women (and men) thought it made him more attractive he never gave it a second thought.
HOWARD:
Strong aversion to water. He’ll get into a swimming pool and that’s about it, but even then he won’t go out farther than he can stand. His fear of drowning is the only thing preventing him from becoming a triathlete.
Keeps a photo of his parents in his wallet.
Definitely has anxiety. His tells used to be much more obvious when he first became an attorney (leg bouncing, shakiness in voice) but he has since been able to control it, most of the time. It’s a part of what keeps him up at night, why he’ll always opt for tea, and why he picked up boxing and cycling. It almost never interferes with his work the way it once did, but every now and again he can be seen swiftly pacing around his office or picking the skin around his fingers.
Despite his agility/flexibility, he’s an absolutely terrible dancer. Even in a bout of romance, an after-dinner slow dance in his own home proves he has two left feet.
Mailroom Era Jimmy definitely called him “Pretty Boy” to piss him off. It made him blush and/or stutter every time without fail and it took both Chuck and his father to convince him that Jimmy was insulting him and didn’t mean it as a compliment.

jimmy not even being capable of conceiving that kim might be bad for him vs jimmy immediately thinking she's leaving because only he's bad for her and ruined her life, therefore he goes on to ruin his as well

Thinking about better call saul if the action took place in france just because I wanted to see them in cunty robes lmao. More thoughts under the cut!
Obviously the action and the whole premise of bcs/brba wouldn't work in france (legal system aside, the whole cartel and walter white storyline would have to suffer major changes due to social security and the mexican cartel well. not existing here stricto sensu). But let's talk about the real Important Stuff : their names
I think Howard Hamlin would work well as Edouard Hamelin. He looses the cool HH initials yes, but it works really well as a genuine french name imo, and Howard/Edouard are pretty close phonetically
Chuck could still be called Charles without any realism issue, but he'd be nicknamed Charlie rather than Chuck because that's what a french person would go for... nicknames don't work the same, yeah
Kimberly Wexler and James McGill, I have no idea lmao. James when translated becomes Jacques, but it's such a boomerish uncool name that I cannot resolve myself to call my boy like that. It's also one generation too old. Jimmy being born in '60 could technically be called Jacques, but it'd be old-fashioned, as it's a name mostly given to the kids of the decade that came before him. McGill is an irish name, so something funny could be making Jimmy a breton with a funky last name like Gall/LeGall ? That's hilarious to me. But who knows.
Saul Goodman is a pun, so this is even harder for me to conceptualize. Saul's marketing would definitely not work in france at all, as no one would realistically hire a lawyer with a puny name and such chaotic displays (+ I think ads for legal démarchage are illegal mind you). However, let's have a crack at it. It would have to be a pun based off an expression similar to "it's all good man", or implying something positive and familiar... I need to think on that one.

I want to discuss that courtroom scene, but before I do, I’d be remiss if I didn’t ask you about the scene on the airport shuttle in “Waterworks” where Kim loses it. You only did two takes of it, is that right?
Yes. With two cameras in the tram. We might have even shoved three in there because he was trying to get as many angles as you can in as few takes. I didn’t know we’d only do two takes until I arrived. I prepared as best I could to have to do many, many, many, many takes. That is not because any of our directors are sadistic, but it’s because the visual vocabulary of the show is many angles on the same thing. So, just technically, that requires you doing it over and over and over and over.
So I was prepared. For me, that means not just hoping I can go over to a corner and drum up some painful memory of my real life. I’m all for anybody’s style of working, I just know that I can’t do that for 36 takes. So what I wanted to do was think about the different pieces that she’s crying about here, because it is not just about one moment. She’s crying for the entire Shakespearean tragedy of Jimmy McGill and of Kim Wexler and of their relationship and of Chuck and of Howard and of people that try to be a good person and how hard that fight could be in day-to-day real life.
Then there’s the actual 24 hours that she’s had since getting Jimmy’s call. I think she still loves him. I think she’s terrified for him and flew to New Mexico and lied to God knows how many people about where she was going. Didn’t pack a bag. Didn’t get any sleep. And then, there’s a progression of scenes. Being a stranger in a strange land at a courthouse that used to be her home. Looking at everything that she could have had and then letting Hamlin’s widow nail her to the stake and accepting it. We were insistent — Vince and I in conversations and then also with Peter — that Kim cannot look for sympathy in those scenes. It is not fair for her to be the one that has to be consoled in any way, which is why I’m so stoic in those scenes.
I tried to take in all of those things, then build it. I do a thing where I ask myself, “Well, where does that kind of pain live? Where does that kind of shame live? Is it the feeling of throwing up? Is it when you feel like it’s tight under your sternum? Is it when your chest gets real heavy?” We all know that feeling where you’re not sure you can breathe.
I just tried to pull all of those things, get on a bus with strangers, which made me feel so alone even though my crew was there, and now try really hard not to cry. Literally that was my plan because if you go in there and say, “I hope I can make myself cry for 30 takes,” you’ll fail. That’s too scary. I literally just put the things physically that we have all felt in extreme shame in our lives or extreme pain in our lives and then try to not let them come all the way out. As soon as you get fissures and it cracks a little bit and you fight to squash it down harder, it’ll come back at you harder. Those are the takes you ended up witnessing and then Vince said, “I think we’re good. We’re just going to do two.” And I was like, “Oh.”
I said, “We can do more. I don’t know how many I can do, but we can do more if I didn’t tell the story that’s what you want to tell.” And he said, “No, we have it exactly. We have it exactly.”
Is that a scene you can even rehearse beforehand?
Rehearse in a traditional way? No. That’s more script analysis. Super-technical stuff like, “Let’s go through everything that happened to her today so that I understand exactly what I’ve been doing for the last 24 hours. Let’s go through what went down 24 hours before that. Did I lie? Do I feel bad about that? What did I say?” Because I didn’t know if we’d shoot out of sequence, so it was important for me to imagine how it would feel walking into the courthouse and confessing those things. Is there relief? Is it just shame?
Someone asked me the other day in an interview, “Do you think Kim, over the last five, six years, has been privately crying in a closet like this away from people?” I said, “No.” The decision I made is that this is the first time she’s let any of this out. She would not let herself feel it. One, for fear that the dam would never be able to be closed up again and two, because of the compartmentalizing. You can’t rehearse it in a traditional way, but I did a lot of thinking about it and then gave myself some tactile markers that I knew that I could have as a reminder of my starting point each time when I get on the bus.
It really was late at night and I had the great fortune of being able to have my view straight ahead. They left enough space that I could stare out the window and I could see the Albuquerque skyline. They showed me the route we were going to take, so that was a bit of a rehearsal for me to just understand, “Where are people going to be near me and what will I be able to see in front of me?” And that way, I can rehearse it to the degree of understanding, “Okay, on each take, when we come around that corner and I see that skyline, let that skyline inform the life I could have had. The life that’s lost. And when I softly hear chatter to my left and my right, let that remind you of how utterly alone she is in this world.”
She feels no actual passion about the people she knows in Florida. They’re lovely. They’re nice. They’re great, but they don’t actually even know her real life. There’s one person that knows the real Kim and he is on the lam from the Feds and it was the love of her life and that’s done — I’m blathering on and on. Is any of this interesting? I’m so sorry.
My God, don’t apologize. I always love talking to you because you explain your process so clearly.
I love that. Thank you.
Also, I gripped my purse — it was on my lap and I remember telling myself, “Let it remind you of how sick to your stomach you are with what you’ve done to people,” which immediately made me start swallowing and feel, like, indigestion. I attached different physical things to different memories of Jimmy and Kim, or of the tragedy of Jimmy and his brother. And the fact that he used to be a little kid who had all this potential and he’s a brilliant lawyer. It made my heart ache, and saying goodbye to him in the breakup scene automatically makes me have a lump in my throat.
I think that’s all the prep you can do. After that, you rely on the gift that I’ve had of seven years, six seasons of some of the smartest people in the whole business telling me that when I do my homework of creating Kim and I think the thoughts, that it’s enough. That scene is terrifying on paper. I have the great fortune of the support system that I have that made me feel I’m going to be enough when I get there.

it hurts my soul to see that jimmy mcgill, the same fucking idiot who would save a slice of pizza for kim wexler when she was working late or who would fix his loafers with a paper clip, is now this man. someone who almost kills a man with cancer with his fucking dog's urn and then threatens an old lady with a cable. to me, it's never about "this is the real him", because that is not the point. the point is: how far can saul goodman go to destroy jimmy mcgill and any trace of him? jimmy mcgill who had a father who loved him but stole from him nonetheless, jimmy mcgill who had a brother who could be his ally but who became his enemy, jimmy mcgill who had someone he loved more than his own life but (in his mind) ruined her. remember 110, when he said to mike that doing the right thing was useless and no one was ever gonna stop him again? saul goodman is the final form of that foreshadowing.
and fuck it hurts like a motherfucker

Hot Take #3: Marvel’s version of Sigyn is not a fledged character and she is horribly written. Stop acting like she is better written than Sylvie.
-----------------------
Everytime I see someone say that she should be brought into the MCU (or the comics), I roll my eyes. In the comics, she’s just a prop to show how cruel Loki is because early depictions wanted him to be evil incarnate. And stop bringing Norse mythology into the Marvel versions about how they did love each other at some point due to her holding the bowl to protect Loki’s face until Ragnarok, blah blah. MCU is the MCU, Marvel comics are Marvel comics, and the myths are the myths, and y’all keep moving the goalposts with what you pick and chose from the various different media depictions. It’s perfectly fine if you included Sigyn for your fanfic or AU, but acting like it should be cannon because you cherry-picked the myths, and trash-talking an established MCU female character (Sylvie) is obnoxious. And how the fuck do you all expect everyone to be on the same page with you?
I don’t want her back in the comics unless there is some MAJOR rewriting of the relationship between her and Loki. The comics constantly retcon events to make characters either worse or more sympathetic. And I think a lot of the heroes have likely done something horribly shitty at some point but get it retconned or added. So why can’t they retcon her existance? Her story is not helpful or empowering to women. As a woman, I don’t want to see that.
And if anything, it promotes the “depraved effeminate man is especially dangerous to women” trope. That pisses me off because I have never been harrassed or in any way hurt by queer men. Cishet gender-conforming men, on the other hand… It pisses me off when a demographic that is not the typical offender gets overrepresented as such in media (*cough* Buffalo Bill). Like how “nazi” was added as a pejorative to feminist with the “feminazi” term.
I see these weird Marvel Sigyn stans acting like she is a real person and Loki “must be held accountable.” They’re not real. They’re drawings. CHILL. Use that energy to condemn real abusers (I better not learn any of you sided with Depp).
Marvel comics!Sigyn upholds the myth of the “perfect victim” that never fights back. This myth is responsible for terms such as “reactive abuse” and “mutual abuse.” There’s no such thing, it’s just self-defense.
And I find it annoying how you all act like being loyal to your abusive husband is a sign of sainthood. As if she wasn’t offered a way out from the very start and constantly aided a supervillain, which gives ideas to make her character more interesting. Make her morally grey and tone down Loki’s cruelty in the relationship or retcon it. For someone to be so committed to Loki in that manner, they need a cruel streak. Make her the Kim Wexler to Loki’s Jimmy McGill if you really must include her.

What does them going ring shopping look like?
Nauseatingly adorable.
Kim suggests just doing it online but Jimmy's like no babe we gotta go in person we gotta get a ~feel for the rings so we know what's right! So they go to a small local jeweler the same afternoon they get married. Jimmy's practically skipping when they get there because 1) WIFE WIFE WIFE HE'S HER HUSBAND THAT’S HIS WIFE 2) he loves both shopping and a fancy accessory 3) WIFE!!!
Kim is more outwardly calm about the whole thing but she's still pretty giddy (even visibly so, at least by her standards for being giddy in public) and she's really enjoying watching Jimmy bounce around the store like a kid in a candy shop.
There's a moment where an only half-joking Jimmy says they should get Kim something encrusted with diamonds (which he knows isn't to her taste, he just wants to spoil the hell out of her) but Kim points out the price tag and that shuts him up real quick.
They have a pretty easy time of it in terms of picking what they want and end up with simple wedding bands. Nothing overly fancy, although Jimmy insists on a really thick band for his because, let's face it, he'd tattoo "Kim Wexler's Husband" on his forehead if he didn't think she'd divorce him again for it. He wants a ring band you can see from across the room.
The curveball comes once they've chosen the rings and are asked if they want them engraved. They take a private moment to kick around ideas and don't come up with anything they like, so they're about to skip that part when Kim waves the jeweler over and asks for a scrap of paper. She draws something on it quickly and shows it to them, asking if it would be possible. When they say yes, Kim turns and shows the paper to Jimmy: it's the Wexler-McGill logo, and he damn near starts crying right in the middle of the store. They lost the office all those years ago and so much has happened, but they're still together and they have a house and a dog and Jimmy's about to have Kim's ring on his finger for the rest of his life.
-
send me mcwexler ideas or prompts for after jimmy gets out of jail and I’ll try to write headcanon/fic stuff!

jimmy sitting disheartened and all alone at the courthouse would be his day, every day, if he didn't indulge in ugly excess and fill every nook and cranny of saul's existence with continual noise and color and too loud advertisements and paid companionship and a bluetooth immediately in his ear. there's a piano in the mansion that never gets played, he can't explain why he even bought it, jokes it adds class. putting a tombstone in the middle of the room would be too unsubtle, not that he's aiming for subtlety. he avoids going down to court when possible, avoids interacting with the legal community in general, and they have a particular ire towards him when he does. they are not his colleagues, they are his adversaries.
suzanne called him a scumbag and there was only one person in the world who'd defend him against that accusation, and she's gone. when kim wexler left, the ada said, good for her, aloud to everyone in the vicinity, but then they all talked about what a shame it was to lose such a fine lawyer. it had to be the hamlin thing right? a few people whisper, maybe, in her time at HHM, she and howard were closer than they seemed, didn't you know the firm paid for her law school, there's another piece of the HHM legacy ruined forever, but those rumors are shut down quickly. first with, no, he wasn't like that. it's still hard to believe he could ever... and then with, no way, she was devoted to mcgill. she defended him at the hearing against his own brother, remember? that was the beginning of the firm's problems. even, i heard she accused howard of nepotism. then other details, she quit s&c abruptly, that was probably his fault. he did the same thing in santa fe. never made sense what she saw in him. or, she seemed to get fixated on wanting to help people, think it was guilt because she knew what he was becoming? or, she finally woke up, guess she was disgusted by what he was becoming. imagine having to live with him. or, why would a woman like that ever marry him? she disbarred herself! he totally tanked her life. or...?
discussions of james mcgill begin to treat him like he's dead, though no one quite realizes they're doing it. it wasn't that he'd been a bad lawyer, he was smart, he could be a really nice guy, but he was always wheeling and dealing. hard to know what was real until he showed it with that de guzman thing. maybe that was why she disappeared.
none of these discussions are had in front of saul because saul is never approached like a human being, but he still knows they have them. he's an annoyance, an aggravation, self-aggrandizing, tenacious. he succeeds with his cases, often. at a cost. they have to deal with his screeching commercials and his clashing suits, it is impossible to avoid this man in albuquerque, he rises to mini-celebrity status through sheer obnoxiousness alone, never letting anyone forget he exists. i'll fight for you. nobody knows what he's even fighting for - glory? money? respect is out of the question. they never see anything genuine from him except his desire to win.
he will not sit alone at the table. whatever, it doesn't matter who's there with him, but he's not pathetic. he's great. hell, he's untouchable. you've never mattered all that much to me...but so what? this is easier. no more pretending, no more attempts to play it straight, no one else to try and change for. he's a cathedral of justice with foam columns. they can't take him down. he beats them to it.

top five fictional characters?
Kim Wexler - ZOOMED to the top of my list in the last 6 months, i don't need to explain, u get it. I could make a full time job out of Thinking About The Tragedy Of Kim Wexler.
Peggy Olson - Peggy is just...so...I don't know...she feels very real to me. She's allowed to be hypocritical and rude and insensitive, but she's also thoughtful and kind and intelligent and so vulnerable, and her arc over the course of MM is so satisfying. Fuck Don, Peggy is my main character forever.
Britta Perry - Britta is deeply annoying in ways that I know myself to also be deeply annoying and I love her for it
Jimmy McGill - I thought about limiting myself to one per media property but I can't, I love Jimmy too much. He's so fucked up and pathetic and clever and loving and mean and desperate and tragic...!!!
Katniss Everdeen - I love Katniss so much I wrote fanfic IN THE FIRST PERSON about her. (Never again)

What do you make of Francesca going back to jimmy?? Like ofc she has to be there because of brba, but an in-story reason wise?? Is it only out of a hope of being able to see Kim again (who she obviously likes better)? Is the job market at ABQ that saturated??
i'm not sure you're right that she likes kim so much better! she and jimmy actually had a good rapport right off the bat when she first came for her interview, and jimmy was the one who said he liked her and wanted to hire her when kim was wanting to find someone who had legal experience. if anything, kim was probably the 'scarier' boss, since she & her practice required so much more precision than jimmy, who basically just wanted someone to chat with the old-timers before sending them in to him.
(that's not to say that francesca DIDN'T like kim -- especially after her accident, i think she showed a real warmth towards her, and if Wexler & McGill hadn't been such a short-lived disaster i think she would have gotten closer to both of them.)
i think the reason why she asks "where's ms. wexler?" in that scene is not because she loves kim so much & is only there for kim -- after all, i'm assuming jimmy was the one who called her and said "come work for me again," since he and kim are neither partners nor office-space-sharers at the moment, so she had to have come back for jimmy. but that's exactly it: she came back for jimmy. she doesn't know who this fuckin' saul goodman guy is! and she doesn't know who all those tattooed freaks on the sidewalk are! no part of this looks like the job she left behind in season 3. so i think she's really looking for a familiar face, and somebody to explain what's going on here to her.
we're going to see francesca transform, and i think her transformation will have a lot to do with the fact that she did like jimmy. she liked jimmy. she took half a personal day for him! what motivates her to stay for saul? other than fat stacks, i guess we'll have to wait and see.

anyway honestly i don't even want jimmy and kim to find each other again just because they'd be endgame and yay mcwexler truthers etc etc, no, it would be because, at least to me, it'd just make sense narratively speaking and in the context of their arcs as characters.
kim left and entered her own gene era six years before the current timeline, and maybe she started anew, maybe she stopped blaming herself, maybe she doesn't hate herself anymore, but can they really show all of this with just three episodes left? we need closure for her, we need for her to realize that she can do the right thing without willingly hurt herself. that she can be better and happy, and one doesn't have to exclude the other.
gene is an empty shell of a human being haunted by his past, and who does nothing but hide. and he's tired, and unhappy, and lonely, and not even cons satisfy him anymore. his traumas are still buried somewhere inside him but are coming out and he'll need to face them. but for now, all he does is leading a colorless life with no purpose at all. no reasons. no love.
if the writers don't want to moralize (which i hope they won't), the only way these two characters may have to find what they need is to... well, find each other again. bring back the good and the bad, the love and the traumas, so the healing can really begin this time.
so the color may come back.

Thank you for tagging me @ladygreene13 💖💖
rules: tag nine people you want to know better!
Three ships: well first is McWexler, (Jimmy McGill and Kim Wexler from Better Call Saul) because in my strictly personal opinion their bond is the most special, real and heartbreaking I've ever seen in any TV show. Watch it, seriously just watch it. Second is Delena from TVD merely for the trauma I've experienced because of it. If any of my mutuals/followers used to be a Delena shipper I would like you to come forward so we can bond over the trauma. For the others, do not watch that show, don't recommend. Third ship is Britin (Brian and Justin from the original Queer as Folk), my ultimate m/m, extremely problematic epic spectacular heartbreaking soul-crushing ship. You should definitely watch that flawless show but it has a LOT of sex.
First ever ship: first ever book ship was Scarlett and Rhett from Gone with the wind. I shipped this SO hard when I read the book at like 9-10 years old. That book was totally NOT appropriate for my age, but I read it, loved it, all the racist and misogynistic implications flied right above my head, I didn't understand shit. All I cared about was my extremely problematic ship. Then I immediately watched the movie and was obsessed with it. Of course now I'm older and I'm able to contextualise this story much better, but that ship holds a special place in my heart. Sorry for being such a boomer, my friends made fun of me for liking this 🤣
Last song : I actually listen to Rachmaninoff for studying, mainly the Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18, with Stanislav Richter on the piano. It's not technically a song but that's the last musical piece I listened to.
Last movie : actually, rewatched Gentlemen Prefer Blondes an old musical starring Marilyn Monroe. I'm sorry for being such a boomer, again, but I watched the movie Blonde, was SO pissed, then I saw the ridiculous interview of the ridiculous director where he said that he didn't watch any MM movie and that he's surprised people actually watch that shit and that Gentlement Prefer Blondes is a movie about prostitutes. That made my blood boil so I rewatched it. Funnily enough, that movie was immensely more feminist than the misogynistic crap he created. But oh well, it's trendy now to disguise torture porn as feminism.
Currently reading : Cyrano de Bergerac by Rostand, love it.
Currently watching : Dark! Love it so far. I'm in the beginning.
Currently consuming : hot chocolate. I chose a flavoured cappuccino but the machine decided I'd rather have chocolate, which is something that only happens to me apparently.
Currently craving : sleep. So much sleep. I'm exhausted and my sleep schedule is fucked up beyond salvation.
tagging @theblackqveen and @lady-phasma because I know that even if they don't want to do it they won't be annoyed so I will just leave it there 😂😂😂 (I'm a little shy)

this got LONG as fuck but I’m just kim posting again
kim’s comfort in independence and aversion to asking for help... you can see it in the way she approaches cases diligently like a laser focus, trying the best to do it on her own, and even paid off what she owed to HHM when she could. you see it when she piles on the work at mesa verde to the point of getting in a car crash, in how she bristles at jimmy’s hovering and insistence in helping her with mundane daily tasks, as if saying she’s incapable of doing something is a hit to her self worth. she trusts her hard work because that’s what has pulled her out of situations, and trusts that she can overcome obstacles if she just applies herself to it, even if it leads to her detriment. “you don’t save me, I save me.” so she’s very determined when it comes down to it.
but you can also see it in the way she cares for jimmy. she isn’t clingy, she’s perfectly content existing with him and showing her love for him and that espouses independence to me. she loves him and he loves her and that’s a fact that never involves other people needing to validate it. when he ushers the real-estate agent away and she slowly cracks into a smile as she giddily tells jimmy she won mesa verde back, that cute as fuck shower moment in that house jimmy wanted to check out. she’s secure in their relationship and so trustful of jimmy, and shows that side of her that she shows no one else. the film fan, the roleplaying, those careful touches. even when she’s so independent she lets jimmy into her little world. and she never pushes him to get help beyond his comfort, if he denys it once or twice then it’s dropped. therapy, going to the ER after the desert, he’s got a different flavor of “i don’t need help” stemming from a similar need to prove himself capable, mixed with his low self-worth, which leads him to not pursue those avenues. and it explains why he feels hurt by her decisions.
I always see-sawed on my thoughts about kim’s insistence of splitting wexler & mcgill law offices and I realize it can’t ever be just one reason. there are factors beyond her need to keep personal life and work life separate. (well, try to at least, how many times has she gone to bat for him out of passion and justice, both inside and outside of a judiciary setting) beyond jimmy’s belief that it’s purely because she doesn’t want his scheming and scamming to mingle with her law practices. she says as much, that he needed to straighten his act. I’m having a real hard time wording this part concerning the formation of their shared office space. jimmy tells her that she’s worth more than being just another piece in the HHM machine, and it’s this agreement that she leaves Schweikart&Cokely yet she still insists that they run separate practices. she can and is capable of existing as her own person, and is confident that she can do so... when jimmy falls back on scamming to hold his side of the rent, she overloads on work herself. she doesn’t want to tie herself to someone else’s work forever. and at times jimmy takes this as her not wanting him or deeming him worthy but that’s just another instance of them not seeing eye to eye, because there is no way in hell that she thinks he’s unworthy, she worked to keep their office. she lived in that office for him. my god, she was willing to kill for him
now we get into spoiler/THEORY(shudder) territory: this is why I'm bothered by “kim got a family off-screen!” stuff for two reasons... one, if marrying jimmy came about via trying to save herself from being forced to testify against the love of her life then who in the whole earth could measure up to that and get her to marry again lol. and two, this theory implies that she just had to be with someone and was incapable of being alone like what? we see so many scenes where she’s completely capable of living alone, whether her relationship with jimmy is on or off. certainly (aside from my brain) they didn’t live together in the mailroom era. she is independent. she’s not needy. there are more than one character in this universe who do not rush to fill a relationship void for years, by the way. I may not be picking the right words, but basically she would not do that... that’s a very jimmy thing to do and she is not him. but then again when I say this I feel like I’m saying she literally can’t exist without him which, we know damn well isn’t true.
and while I’m here, it’s a culmination of these traits and her history which leads me to adore the way she talks to him so succinctly sometimes. those one word answers when she knows she won’t push him anymore, or when she’s sure she knows what she means. when she’s in work mode, she’s the ideal, easy to please businesswoman, all smooth lines and corporate smiles and immediately placating responses, she knows what to say to keep paige and kevin happy. to climb the ranks from the bottom, from the middle of nowhere and with no support at all from family, she adapted those mannerisms, a shield to push through navigating the world alone with only herself to depend on and trust. but when she’s with jimmy, there is no need to overly compensate and fill in spaces when she needs to say something. there’s no need for that mask, the emotions come out on her own terms. she is excitable when she’s excited, she will let her frustration and anger show, and she’s neutral when it’s a normal day. I’m over here swooning over the casual way she gifts him the world’s 2nd best lawyer mug vs the way she packaged the JMM briefcase as a present for his re-instatement. I never regard those moments as cold or exasperated at all it’s just who she is she doesn’t have to change for him, it’s gestures of love no need for a big parade :D and what makes it cuter is that even if jimmy is mentally grappling with accepting what kim says at times, he isn’t going to always push back either (ofc, this doesn’t happen all the time but) they are content to say yes, ok, and then slow blink like cats in love. it’s what makes the times she goes along with his flashiness and flamboyance so so so so cute too.
hm.. The end of my thoughts. I’d go on to write about my feelings on her decision with the howard scam and her personal sense of justice that at times clashes with the law (playin’ fast and loose), AND her reasons to leave jimmy, because this just became a borderline worship essay and I always need to reiterate that she’s not some cognizant all knowing arbiter of justice, she makes poor decisions and falls into a similar track of underestimating consequences that jimmy displays and her self punishment deserves a post on its own, but I’m sleepy and feverish and will do it tomorrow
I gotta end it with she is slowly climbing the ranks to be my favorite girl of all time. for understanding’s sake my #1 girl ever in the universe is angela from lobcorp. And there will come a time where I will be relating some things I think about kim, to binah, but the world is not ready for that...no sir...not even I am ready for that.
