strawberry lemonade
Sanji x LuffyOlderSister!Reader
the waiter walked over the table holding the plate of bread, "Hi, welcome to our shitty restaurant where the only thing worse than the ambience is the food." He said annoyed, his hand stuffed into his pockets as he placed the plate of bread onto the table
“My name is Sanji. What can I get for you?” Sanji said, looking at the table his hand in his pockets.
Luffy grabbed the bread plate. "One of everything, please," he said. [Y/n] shook her head, smiling at her always-hungry little brother who could eat a whole buffet and still ask for seconds.
The waiter approached the table with a friendly smile and a suggestion: "May I interest you in one of our signature cocktails to elevate your dining experience?" As he spoke, [Y/n] swiftly and deftly took one of the warm rolls from the basket in the center of the table. Luffy was taken aback and protested with a playful "Hey!" [Y/n] responded by sticking out her tongue, teasingly. She then tore off a piece of the warm, crusty bread and popped it into her mouth, savoring the flavor.
As she looked up, her gaze met the waiter's. Her heart skipped a beat as she noticed his flirtatious smile. "My apologies, madam. I didn't see you there. Would you like to start with an apéritif?" he asked, still smiling at her.
Her face turned bright red. "We have some rare Micqueot vintages in stock," he said, trying to impress her. "Or maybe you'd prefer a glass of Umeshu?" He continued to stare at her, captivated by her beauty.
The moment he flashed a flirtatious smile, her heart raced like a horse galloping on a race track. He leaned towards her and whispered, "You know, something sweet for someone sweet," causing her cheeks to flush with a bright red hue, reminiscent of a freshly picked ripe strawberry. She couldn't explain why she felt so nervous around him all of a sudden, her heart pounding relentlessly against her chest as if it wanted to break free.
He watched her intently, his gaze unwavering as she averted her eyes and looked down. Her cheeks turned a faint shade of pink as she fiddled with the gold Roger coin around her neck, a precious keepsake that Shanks had given her and Luffy when they were children.
He smiled at her and she looked up for a moment, smiling sheepishly as they locked eyes. Usopp clears his throat and says, "Waiter, can I get a beer and something for my friends?" He tells the waiter ordering the drinks, "Two beers. I usually have three, but…" He said,
"Water." Nami said looking at him.
„And a milk." Luffy interrupted, "Three beers and a milk. a water. And, uh, for madam?" Sanji asked, his gaze once again falling on [Y/n] looked up at him and blushed, "U-Um, I would strawberry lemonade and a cup of strawberries," she said, her voice tinged with a hint of shyness. He smiled at her and said, "Right away." just as he left to walk towards the kitchen.
[Y/n] hid her face in her shirt while the other crew members chuckled, Luffy looked towards his older sister playfully. "Y/n's gotta boyfriend," He teasingly said to her. "S-Shut up!" She whispered shouted, elbowing him in the arm before, as the Sanji brought out her drinks. He smiled, at her as he placed the strawberry lemonade in front of her, along with the side of strawberries. Sending her a wink as he did so, her heart almost seemed to stop and her soul could've left her body.
"Y/n's gotta boy-" [Y/n] grabbed some meat on a stick, and shoved it into her brother's mouth silencing him.

G'morning all! Its nice to get back things,. Theres been some roadblocks with med shortages and life, and also with the material for these recipes. So far we've covered a lot of pastries, not because theyre mentioned more often in the series, but because being mentioned lends them more specificity in flavor than things like gravy, peas, or various meats. The latter can be prepped, seasoned, and served in so many different ways that it feels harder to make them 'faithfully' because a packet of instant potato mash is just as faithful as a pot of buttered potato mash. Baked goods tend towards 1, maybe 2, 'base' recipes that get altered and added to.
Today, we'll be making Beorn's Honey Cakes! A dish from one of my partners favorite characters- a delectable little treat befitting the… warm personality of the character.
(As always you can find the cooking instructions and full ingredient list under the break-)
MY NAMES CROSS NOW LETS COOK LIKE ANIMALS
SO, “what goes in to Beorn's Honey Cakes?” YOU MIGHT ASKSimple stuff! Simple sweet stuff!
All-purpose flour
Baking powder
Salt
Ground nutmeg
Unsalted butter
Whole milk
2 eggs
Honey
Vanilla extract
The veins of honey cakes ancestry can be traced back to any moment where people began baking bread. Honey is a natural preservative, and sweeter still on its lonesome.
AND, “what does Beorn's Honey Cakes taste like?” YOU MIGHT ASKLike your aching muscles repairing themselves
Tastes like a honey graham cracker
But the texture is softer, wetter- somewhat like banana bread
Oh, and this will make your house smell So So Good
If you can resist the temptation of eating them immediately, they taste even richer the day after baking
Would pair well with milk green tea
Would also pair well with fresh orange slices (or those chocolate 'orange slices' candy)
Genuinely don't forget to flip them upside down when they go to bake the second time, not sure what it is but i was curious and did a test where i flipped half of the batch upside down and kept the other half of the batch right-side up like they cooked in the muffin tin. The ones i flipped upside down universally had a more consistent texture and the honey was able to permeate further.
.where honey called for, used clover honey
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From start to finish this recipe takes about an hour of work, give or take some negligible time for prep.
The batter is perhaps the babybird of all cake batters. The gloopy, protruding crumbs of butter, not unlike a squabs beady pupils visibly dark under its skin, break up the mass of sickly smooth and reassuringly sweet-smelling oak-colored liquid. You can feel the confusion of bees outside your home, wondering if this your attempt at making royal jelly.
Just like a babybird, it becomes more than the sum of its parts. Layer on that honey drizzle, layer it on thick, theres no risk of drowning subtle flavors. Its crisp edges will keep its form, springy and warm, inviting you as if you're not the one who crafted it (food you didn't cook always tastes better). The bees are sooooooooooooooo jealous of your opposable thumbs and muscular strength.
If you dont have eggs you could try substituting with apple mash. I can't vouch for it in this recipe but replacing eggs with mashed up apples for pancakes gives it adds a nice fruity flavor without changing the texture, and in theory should work here as well.
I give this recipe a solid 10/10 (with 1 being food that makes one physically sick and 10 being food that gives one a lust for life again.)
🐁 ORIGINAL RESIPPY TEXT BELOW 🐁
Ingredients:
270 grams all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp freshly ground nutmeg
1 stick unsalted butter
160 grams milk
2 eggs
110 grams your favorite honey
1 tsp vanilla extract
Muffin tray and parchment paper
Method:
Preheat oven to 350f
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
Add the butter and rub it into the flour with your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
In a small bowl beat the eggs until just combined. Pour in milk and then vanilla extract while stirring.  Keep stirring vigorously while slowly pouring in honey.
Stir until the mixture is consistent in color.
Pour the liquids over the dry mixture and stir until just combined.
Pour the batter into a greased muffin tray, don't use any muffin paper/lining/cups.
Bake for 16 minutes, or until they reach their full height.
Carefully remove from the muffin pan and place the muffins upside down on a parchment lined tray.
Using a silicone pastry brush, generously cover the tops of the cakes with honey. Allow to sit for about 5 minutes to let the honey soak into the cakes.
Bake for an additional 8-10 minutes, or until the cakes are golden brown.
Remove from the oven and allow to cool.

I need to let you guys in on some knowledge ok.
if you want donuts. Buy yourself a tube of biscuit dough and separate it out and use a cookie cutter to cut out the centers (or just tear a hole with your thumb. become ungovernable). Get yourself a good sized pot with about an inch or two of your favorite flavorless oil. Make sure it has a lid (let's not start grease fires).
Heat it up on medium or medium low, depending on how hot your stove is. Then fry yourself some donuts. they are so fluffy it feels like it should be illegal. then roll them in powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar or make yourself a glaze with a bit of milk + powdered sugar + flavoring. you can be responsible and let them cool down or you can do what i did and hoover them straight into my mouth sizzling hot. way too many. im so full of fried bread.
it's like a couple bucks and the cost of feeling like you've seen god. it's so good. you get so many donuts and u can fry the donut holes too. You're unstoppable.

Maybe making a bento for the kamaboko squad?
Anon (´∀`•) This was such a nice request to receive! It just instantly sent my head into fluffy territory and it was just a pleasure to write.
It also made me want to make a bento?
if you have any other requests like this one - or literally any other type of request - then please send it in because your more than welcome too <3
Making a Bento for the Kamaboko Squad!:
Tumblr media
Tanjirou Kamado:
Ok, first off! Tanjirou would literally eat anything and everything you made him - seriously, head AND stomach of steel
Obviously if you took the time to make it all pretty and presentable he would look it in awe and eat it slowly to properly savoir the presentation and flavoring
Loves it when you pack him all the home cooked meals
He's happy with food that were left over from breakfast or dinner from yesterday - so long as its something you've made
Enjoys your Miso Yaki Onigiri with Honey Soy Chicken with a side of cherry tomatoes + sauteed cabbage
Anything yummy makes him happy - well... anything that you've put time and effort in is always gonna make him happy
Wouldn't say he has a big sweet tooth but he really can't turn down your desserts - especially if freshly made!
Particularly loves your Matcha Marble Pound Cake
If you ask him, Tanjirou will help you make your's and his bento's
Nezuko Kamado:
Nezuko loves your bento's
She loves the bright colours of the food that you use - it always makes her happy to see that you've added something into the rice to make it slightly pink
Nezuko also has a soft spot for sweet things so when you add extra Tamagoyaki (sweetened omelette) from breakfast to her bento it adds a little pep in her step
She really loves forward to the bento's you make during cherry blossom season cause everything is cherry blossomed themed - lots of cherry blossom themed desserts too! e.g. Cherry Blossom milk pudding
Oh! Enjoys abit of Sweet and Sour in her bento - specifically when you use the lefter overs from your sweet and sour chicken + vegetables with steamed rice
Sweet and Sour Chicken with Japanese Potato Salad and steamed rice with sesame seeds and umeboshi (pickled plum) + cherry tomatoes
Will absolutely help you make the bento's
Inosuke Hashibira:
He's still getting used to receiving a packed bento - Inosuke was really confused when you first gave him one
Doesn't see the point of all the pretty food shapes and colours to begin with but he does secretly enjoy it when you shape and do all that stuff with his food - it just helps prove that you love him cause your making him food and making it into things he likes
Cackles when he opens his bento up and there's onigiri shaped like boars + pigs
Will eat anything that's smothered in teriyaki sauce or tempure-d
Absolutely adores sweet potato pie and will eat an entire one to himself.... - its safe to say that you put at least a couple of slices in his bento when you make a pie to hold him off
To give him his vitamins in the form of fruits, other than berries, you usually pack him a Fruit Sandwich/Fruit Sando - a taste sweet dessert in sandwich form that consists of sweet milk bread, fresh whipped cream with strawberries, kiwi and orange - which you usually have to give him extra as he scoffs down the first one
don't ask him to help make the bento's.....he'll eat everything as your preparing them...
Zenitsu Agatsuma:
Absolutely sobs when you give him a bento.... actually that happens every single time you make him a bento
Enjoys literally all of your food
Will absolutely sob while eating it...
Really enjoy when you use ginger and honey in the foods
Has a softspot for your Ginger Pork Onigirazu
Although he really loves when you pack Nikujaga (Meat and Potato Stew) with Shirataki Noodles with a side of Miso eggplant in his bento
Loves all the desserts/sweet things that you pack him
Doesn't matter what type of dessert - cake, mochi, crepe, etc. - its going into his stomach
although if he had to pick a favourite, it would have to be your Warabi Mochi
You can ask him to help prepare the bento's but he will add more stuff than needed or add the wrong decorations and/or seasonings

european here (genuinely curious): in reference to your “american home-cooked food isn’t just fast food, it’s a lot like french/italian food” post, could you give some examples? I don’t know what foods are american home staples, but your post piqued my interest
Well stews and soups for one. When I read recipes for stuff like beef bourguignon it’s quite familiar to me. Less wine perhaps but the principles of the dish are similar.
Italian-American food often also makes for easy quick food on weeknights. Pasta is something that can be just as easy or complicated as you want. You can make it from scratch at every step or just make sauce from canned ingredients and boxed pasta. Tomato paste, flour, pasta, and dried herbs are staples in most kitchens. Pretty much every household has their own way of making pasta sauces.
Roasts are popular during the winter. Both roasted veggies and roasted meat. Potatoes are popular year round but in the summer things like potato salad or fries or bagged chips are more common than stewed, mashed, or boiled potatoes.
Americans commonly cook with butter and olive oil, though canola oil is cheaper. In recent years though there’s been health questions about canola oil and some people only use it for deep frying now.
French cream sauces are pretty similar to American white gravy which we make with cream instead of milk. We do also make white sauce too and will put it on most things. I find it especially good on pizza instead of red sauce. A lot of people also put it on pasta or vegetables.
A lot of the way we eat potatoes is pretty similar to some French dishes. What we call scalloped potatoes is very similar to a French dish called potatoes au gratin. Not identical, but extremely similar.
Stuff like French onion soup and duck a l’orange is also decently popular here even if not everyday food and are things you’d more commonly make yourself than buy from a restaraunt.
French style breads and pastries are also quite popular here. Baguettes are common things to cut up to eat with dip. Croissants with coffee are common things to eat for a small breakfast or an afternoon snack. French style breads both sweet and not are also common breads used for sandwiches. Italian style coffee is also more and more popular these days but that wasn’t true until relatively recently.
A lot of similarities really lie in the ingredients we use. We often cook things in butter for example. Or add flour to stews to thicken them. Or add milk to things. Or use wine to deglaze pans for the flavor.
A lot of home cooking in the US is affected by other immigrant populations. Tacos or curry are staples in my diet for example. But when you get down to more traditional comfort food it’s potatoes, cream sauces, stews, herbs, roasts, and pasta. Stuff that’s not identical to French or Italian cooking but is very heavily influenced by it.
TLDR: It’s butter!

Huh. Realized I made a soup from leftovers that would make a pretty decent beginner soup.
Leftover Turkey Pot Pie Soup
The goal of this soup is to be (relatively) quick and easy to prepare and to make use out of leftover poultry. It relies pretty heavily on pre-made ingredients (though you can make those ingredients yourself if you want to)
Ingredients:
Pre-cooked turkey or chicken (one large turkey breast, two medium chicken breasts). You can use leftovers, a grocery store rotisserie chicken, or, optionally, uncooked frozen chicken breasts or thighs. The poultry should not be breaded and the skin should be removed; if you are using uncooked frozen poultry you may want to taste more carefully and make sure to season sufficiently.
64oz poultry or vegetable stock (I used the stock I made out of turkey carcasses and my stock bags of kitchen trimmings from the freezer, but store bought is fine) (if you do not want to or cannot use stock, you can also just use water but you will likely have to add more spices and I would recommend adding one extra carrot and one extra onion)
3tbsp Cooking oil (can be olive oil or canola oil or butter - use what you've got handy and what tastes good to you, you don't have to buy something special for this)
1 cup of frozen peas
2 large carrots coarsely chopped
2 large onions coarsely chopped
3 tbsp cooking starch (most people use corn starch, I use potato starch because of food allergies. Any neutrally flavored starch is fine, but do not use flour).
1/2 cup milk/half and half/cream (you can use a combination or just one of these, it depends on what's in your kitchen and what taste you prefer)
Poultry seasoning (pre-made mix; alternately you can add sage, rosemary, and marjoram to taste. I added poultry seasoning then added extra sage and rosemary)
Salt
Black pepper
Paprika
Garlic powder
3 Bay Leaves
1tsp dried Parsley
Tools:
4-6 quart stock pot with a close-fitting lid
Chef's knife (for chopping vegetables and poultry)
Cutting board
Large cooking spoon
Small bowl
Fork or small whisk
Before you cook:
Read the entire recipe and check that you have all the tools and ingredients listed in your kitchen and ready for use.
Prep your kitchen - make sure there's room in the trash can, that the sink is clear of dishes, and that there is a burner on the stove clear for your pot. Designate a space close to the stove as your working area and set your cutting board there so you can easily transfer from your cutting board to the pot.
Gather your ingredients - make sure that you've got all the tools and ingredients listed. If you want to, you can take the time to measure out everything at this stage and have it ready to go in the pot.
Prep your ingredients - wash and chop your carrots, peel and chop your onions. Remove the skin from your poultry (if frozen, set the poultry aside, you will do something slightly different) and chop into bite-sized pieces.
Cooking Instructions:
Turn the heat on your stove to medium and warm the oil up in the bottom of the pan. Once it is shimmering and flowing easily, add the chopped carrots and onions to the pan.
Add a small amount of each of your seasonings to the pot - no more than half a teaspoon of each at this stage - and stir them in with the vegetables.
Stirring continuously, heat the vegetables and spices until the onions are softened and translucent.
If you are using pre-cooked poultry, add it to the pot and stir it in with the vegetables and spices (if you are using raw frozen poultry, don't add it to the pot yet). Add in the frozen peas at this point.
Add your broth or stock to the pot and stir, using your spoon to scrape the bottom of the pot to make sure nothing is sticking to the bottom. Add the bay leaves to your pot. Increase the heat to high and watch the pot until it comes to a boil.
If you are using raw frozen poultry, NOW add the frozen meat (whole breasts or thighs still frozen) to the pot and bring to a boil. For raw frozen poultry ONLY keep the pot covered at a boil for thirty minutes, watching to make sure it doesn't boil over. Once the poultry has cooked for thirty minutes, use your spoon to remove the pieces from the pot and set them on your cutting board, then cut them into bite-sized pieces. Instructions are the same regardless of what meat you're using after this step.
Once the previous steps are finished, reduce the heat to a low simmer and cover the pot. Let simmer for half an hour.
Taste the soup and add spices and seasonings as needed. You will probably want to add more salt first, half a teaspoon at a time. Add in your salt then stir and simmer for five minutes before tasting again. Repeat as needed, adding spices in small amounts to adjust the flavor as you go.
Once the flavor is close to right, mix the milk and the starch in a small bowl, whisking thoroughly to ensure that there are no lumps. Gradually add the starch slurry to the soup a few tablespoons at a time. Stir between increments, checking for thickness. When the soup is at the desired thickness (should be quite thick, like what you would find inside of a pot pie) taste test the soup and adjust spices as needed.
Add parsley and do a final taste test, simmer for five minutes before serving.
If you want, you can let the soup cool and fill a pre-made pie crust with it (top and bottom crust, making sure to leave holes for venting) then bake in a 400 degree Fahrenheit oven for 40 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
For the slurry, I like to use 2:1 liquid to starch when mixing an use half and half for the slurry but add a couple of tablespoons of heavy cream after the soup has started to thicken; this is totally optional and if you just go based on what's in the recipe you should be fine.
How to make homemade stock, if you want to:
as you cook over the course of several weeks, gather things like onion tops, the ends of tomatoes, wilty celery, and whatever other safe-to-eat but unpleasant vegetable trimmings you've got and add them to a 1-gallon freezer bag.
Keep the bag in the freezer and add stuff until the bag is full. Once it's full, or if you happen to have a chicken or turkey carcass and a mostly-full bag, add the frozen trimmings and any meat trimmings or carcasses you have to a large stock pot (at least a two gallon pot).
Add in a few cloves of garlic and a few bay leaves
Add in water until the vegetables and trimmings are completely covered.
Bring to a boil.
Reduce heat and let simmer for a minimum of two hours.
Turn off the heat and let cool
Spoon or strain out the solids - one way to do this is to pour from the pot into a collander and into another large pot. You can also use a slotted spoon or a strainer or ladle out the liquid from the stock pot, but you want to discard the solids and keep the liquids.
Skim excess or undesired fat off of the stock and discard.
Ladle or pour the stock into containers for storage. I like to use cleaned salsa jars and leave about 20% of the space in the jar free, then freeze the stock in jars so I can use it whenever I want to.
If you aren't freezing the stock, use it within two weeks.

Handing flaming hot cheetos to everyone in the mansion to see who survives
Napoleon: he can have a handful and he's fine. He's eating one of the small .99 cent bags
Mozart: mainly doesn't think it tastes good, but also holding back a cough
Leonardo: he's dowing the entire bag without realizing it. I feel like he'd dip them in something but I have no clue what
Vincent: tearing up a little. He likes some spice but he likes a flavorful spice. Hell eat a few more though just to be sure
Theo: straight up doesn't like them. He wasn't expecting them to actually have a kick either
Arthur: he's holding back a choke and tears as best he can. Please give him milk
Isaac: is choking and crying. Boy is gasping and can't handle it. Stereotypical British boy
Jean: immediately sip it out. Hates it. Don't you dare give him that again. He's now searching for milk
Dazai: also eating the bag shamelessly
Shakespeare: he's so confused by chips to begin with that now making them hot is overwhelming him. British boy number 3 is down. Doesn't like how it stains his fingers
Comte: what do you think? Man is eating so much cheese and bread to get that spice out of his mouth. He's handling it worse than Jean and Isaac.
Sebastian: doesn't mind them but is really only eating a smaller bag not a big family sized bag. But he might if he's distracted enough and that's the bag he had
Vlad: handling it better than you thought. Is also enjoying a small bag of them.
Faust: made a weird face when he first tried them. Not because it was too spicy. But because he thought they tasted bad. Took him a while to get the taste out
Charles: had to eat a few to figure out if he liked them or hated them. He's still not sure so every time you offer him one he will take it and go through all those stages again
Drake: British boy number 4 is actually handling it well. He likes the flavor because well...he's been on a boat for too long and just wants flavor. He's not eating a big bag but he doesn't want the small bag
Galileo: choking. He didn't enjoy that at all. He tells you it's because they taste bad but that tear at the corner of his eye tells you it's the spice

What do you think each entity tastes like?
OOOH, LIST TIME! I LOVE LISTS
ITS LONG SO I PUT A CUT HERE TO NOT CLOG DASHBOARDS
THE BURIED
WELL. LIKE DIRT. NATURAL BUT OPPRESSIVE OF ANY OTHER TASTE EXCEPT FOR DIRT.
THE CORRUPTION
LIKE YOU TOOK A LEMON WARHEAD CANDY AND CRANKED IT UP TO 11. OVERPOWERINGLY SWEET AND SOUR AT THE SAME TIME, MAKING YOUR TEETH ACHE AND ROT AND YOUR FEATURES SCRUNCH UP.
THE DARK
LIKE AN OLD DINERS' HOT COCOA. NOT A POWDERED MIX, NO. DELIBERATELY MELTED CHOCOLATE, OVERTAKING THE WHITE CREAME IN IT WITH ITS THICKNESS. THE WHIPPED CREAM ON TOP MELTED IN IT, NOW JUST BUBBLES AT THE TOP OF THE SMOOTH WARM ABYSS IN A MUG.
THE END
IM FEELING BLACK LICORICE? I ALWAYS FIND THE END TO BE SUCH A GENTLE ENTITY, LIKE A HAND YOURE SCARED TO HAVE TOUCH YOU, BUT WHEN IT DOES.. I FIND THERES THAT APPREHENSION AROUND BALCK LICORICE, A STIGMA OF IT THAT ITS THE MOST REPULSIVE TASTE. I PERSONALLY FIND IT LOVELY.
THE FLESH
IF IM SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE? EUGH. SOUR, WARM, AND WET. CONCEPTUALIZE BITING INTO A PAPER TOWEL JUST USED TO CLEAN RAW CHICKEN JUICE FROM A GRILL'S LID.
AS A HYPOTHETICAL? LIKE A BLUE RARE STEAK, WELL SEASONED. UGH, EVEN THINKING OF THAT DOESNT GET THE MEMORY OF THAT SHOULDER OUT OF MY HEAD.
THE EYE
ALMOND SCONES DUNKED IN COFFEE WITH JUST A LITTLE MILK. A SMART FEELING FLAVOR, MILD AND EARTHY, NOT OVERWHELMING THE SENSES LESS IMPORTANT THAN SIGHT.
THE LONELY
RAINWATER, COLLECTED ON A COLD AUTUMN EVE IN A CLEAR MASON JAR, FILTERED OF COURSE. THERES NO FLAVOR, ITS WATER, BUT IT FEELS NATURAL TO DRINK, ESPECIALLY SINCE YOU DONT HAVE TO BOTHER THE TAP TO COLLECT THE DRINK.
THE STRANGER

Krypton lives if you still take wednesday suggestions for this week
Love your work!!
Kara tripled her usual grocery order this week, for obvious reasons, but really didn’t know which staples to lean most heavily on. Meat, obviously. Kal had also mentioned milk and a thing called “cheese”, which had made even less sense than “bread” as a concept, but Kara obviously can’t get Earthling groceries delivered out here so she’d just ordered a lot of milk. She supposes Thirteen and Match are young enough that they probably do still have cravings for things like milk, so she’s heard odder things. She’d also assumed simpler flavors would be better, given their age, so she didn’t go too overboard on anything complicated.
That doesn’t actually help her decide what to feed them right now, though. Something quick, ideally; just a snack while she goes and calls the tailor. Dinner can wait ‘til later.
To be honest, Kara’s never been much of a cook herself. She knows a few basic staples, but nothing complicated; not even any family recipes or anything like that.
At this point, she’s tempted to just make them a pudding, but they probably need something a bit more filling than that. Rao knows when they last ate or what it was. Rao knows what the Thinkers on Earth fed them, or what Kal’s been feeding them.
Admittedly, she could just ask them about that.
“What’s Kal been feeding you?” she asks, still studying the contents of her cupboards critically. She could make noodles, maybe. That’d be quick, if maybe a bit much for a snack.
“MREs,” Thirteen says. Kara . . . pauses. Surely that’s a translation error. He cannot possibly have just told her that Kal’s been feeding them military rations. Kal couldn’t possibly–“Um, from Earth. He wasn’t sure if we’d have trouble handling Kryptonian food or not, so . . .”
“Did he send any MREs with you?” Kara asks.
“No,” Match says. “He only requisitioned enough for the trip.”
Kara is going to throw herself off a roof.
“He thinks you might have trouble handling Kryptonian food, but he only packed enough Earthling food to get you here?” she asks incredulously. Kal’s usually so much smarter than that. Like–an oversight like that, from Kal? “No wiggle room for if you do turn out to have trouble handling it? And no introducing you to any of it in small doses on the ship or anything like that?”
“Uh,” Thirteen says, looking uncomfortable. “I . . . guess.”
Kara loves her baby cousin and knows he has the best intentions here and also understands that his life is currently very busy and a lot of life-changing experiences have been happening to him all at once, several of them without his consent, but also, what the fuck.

Moon-non here again, slightly uncreative but recently ive been thinking
Sunday definitely cannot tolerate spice. He just cant. He tries, trust me he does, but he just hates it. Maybe the "flavor" it brings to his dishes? Well, its just a mouthful of fire, so there really isnt any flavor. He just can't tolerate it. He uses spices sure, but not chilis and stuff, things that make it HOT.
He also prefers macarons, probably. Ice cream is fine, but I imagine he's sensitive to the cold, so he prefers only a tiny bit. He probably loves those mini lava cakes. Imagine going on a date with him to those bakeries. He would smell of bread and warmth for the rest of the week, and you'd be constantly sniffing him because of it. Ugh. My warm pigeon baby.
– moon anon 🌘
do not the birb. Im gonna call you Mon. Can I? Pwetty pwease?
I never thought of that honestly but it is interesting! Maybe he's also sensitive to really strong temperatures OMG HE IS BABY. Litterally can't handle hot drinks he needs to leave them out for a little. As for my personal food hc the only thing I have in mind is bread- omg feeding friking pigeons bread (idk if thats a good thing I've never fed one). Adores a warm loaf of sweet bread. He looks like the type to dip it in tea not gonna lie. I also once saw a hc where on weekdays hes a black coffee man but on weekends hes a warm milk typa guy AND I FIND THAT ADORABLE also your lava cake hc got me thinking about how he would like deserts that sort of melt in your mouth maybe some real cocoa butter chodolate and soft sponge cakes stacked with sweet frosting in the middle.
So sorry Monny dear i have no clue on what to write for food related stuff but I hope you enjoy it!!! As always

Youre telling me a shimp fried this rice soup? No.  But with your help it can, for just pennies a day. Today on the the Redwall Cookbook we're making Shrimp'N'Hotroot Soup.
(you may find the original recipe at the bottom if you’d like to follow along!)-
MY NAMES CROSS NOW LETS COOK LIKE ANIMALS
SO, “what goes in to a Shrimp'N'Hotroot Soup?” YOU MIGHT ASK
Unsalted butter
1 onion
2 leeks
Vegetable stock (or vegetable bouillon)
Milk
3 potatoes
Curry or chili powder
Salt and pepper
Pre-cooked shrimp or prawns
I also added parsley flakes and smoke paprika for serving. The recipe recommends crusty bread!
Crusty bread. Like garlic or a baguette.
Stale potato chips would prolly taste good if ur into that sorta thing.
AND, “what does Shrimp'N'Hotroot Soup taste like?” YOU MIGHT ASK
Of all the redwall dishes so far this one has the most distinct 'savory' flavor
Smooth, rich flavor
The veggies came out nicer than id thought and i think the simmering and then adding liquid let it seep in.
The seafood smells intense after an hour or so (serve immediately)
The powder and the milk kept separating and i wonder if stirring more or adding the milk earlier wouldve made it emulsify better?
You could strain and serve the contents without the soup part!
Would pair well with a smooth red wine and a 'naked' salad.
Shimp-shimp-shimp-shimp-a-doop
. Used almond milk where milk called for . Used curry powder . Used garlic bread
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Honestly feel free to just fuckin HEAP on the spices, in classic brit fashion, they have the tongues of arctic babies and you can barely taste the spice with the original portions given. The shrimp is understandably pre-cooked but as is they come out barely changed by the soup or spices, and if someone could tell me the reasoning behind not adding them earlier to soak up some of that good good stuff, id love to hear (genuine).
2 major points on this recipe; As its seafood, it does not keep well, you could maybe save it for later the same day. Beyond that youre playing with your life and it wont taste great. It is very fast to prepare (if you have prechopped veggies). Maybe 40 minutes from deciding to make it from having it in my belly, not counting veggie prep time as i did that the morning-of while reading.
So sorry for having this out late! I've been working on some projects like concept work for an upcoming indie TTRPG, commissions for folks DnD parties, and my own personal stuff. If it makes it up to yall, i did eat this on the 3rd of this month haha.
As much as I love seafood, unfortunately i dont make it much as its hard to store and can be finicky to prepare. This soup could be replaced with a few other centerpieces, or made vegetarian, but for how it is in the book- I give this recipe a solid 6/10 (with 1 being food that makes one physically sick and 10 being food that gives one a lust for life again. 5 being average)
🐁 ORIGINAL RESIPPY TEXT BELOW 🐁
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 large onion, chopped
2 medium leeks, washed well and chopped
1 1/2 cups vegetable stock (or 1 1/2 cups water and 1/2 cube vegetable bouillon)
3 medium potatoes, peeled and chopped
1 teaspoon curry powder or chili powder, or to taste
Salt and pepper, to taste
8 ounces peeled, cooked shrimp or prawns, sliced if large
1 cup milk
Method:
In a large pot over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the onion and leeks and cook, stirring, until soft, about 5 minutes (do not let the vegetables brown).
Add the vegetable stock, potatoes, curry or chili powder, and salt and pepper. Cover and simmer until the potatoes are very soft, 15 to 20 minutes.
Add the shrimp and milk and gently heat. Serve with crusty bread.

Sky Worldbuilding: Food in the Daylight Prairie
Tumblr media
Once again time for another Sky Worldbuilding post! I’m going to talk about what food in each of the realms could look like, except for Isle (as I imagine it being a massive marketplace where you can find food from all over the realms)
Starting with Daylight Prairie!
Aside from Sanctuary Islands, most food in Daylight Prairie is vegetarian (I won’t be covering Sanctuary Islands in this post - I’m going to make a separate one about seafood, which will combine Treasure Reef and Sanctuary Islands). The skykids here have farms where they grow their crops or tend to light creatures.
Skykids here have a fondness for nice pottery - much of their food is cooked or served in beautifully painted and glazed clay containers (which are sold in many of the Cave’s shops). Speaking of pottery, skykids (both in Prairie and other places) usually cook food in tagines, which are basically special cooking pots that really preserve flavors and vitamins.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(This is what they look like, they come in a variety of patterns and I can imagine skykids decorating them with mantas or stars)
Skykids often make vegetable soups and use bread to soak up the excess liquid. Herbs are added to most cooked dishes for flavor. A soup or other saucy cooked dish usually makes up the main course of a meal in Daylight Prairie, with sides of fresh vegetables and fruits - salads, pickled veggies, or slices of fresh fruit. There’s usually a small desert after that, sweetened with honey from light creature bees.
This meal is usually eaten only at the end of the day - as skykids in my world eat to socialize and enjoy themselves, this is considered a time to gossip, tell your friends and family about your day, share stories, and relax. Usually, a few older skykids will prepare a big meal and invite their moths, friends, and family over. Skykids eat with their hands or chopsticks.
Snacks are occasionally eaten throughout the day - vendors will sell things like fruit cups, small bowls of noodles, cheese, or freshly baked samosas to the flocks of hungry moths following the older skykids (they don’t have the patience to wait for dinner).
Also manta milk exists. It’s used to make cheeses (which are often served as a side dish), butter, ice cream, and more.

low calorie meals and snacks for y’all <3
breakfast: (normally i skip, but when i don’t this is one of the most fulfilling)
one egg, scrambled, no milk 🍳 106 cals
6 sliced strawberries 🍓 35 cals
total cals = 141 cals
for me this is such a filling meal!!! the egg provides some protein that helps you stay full for longer. i lightly salt and pepper my egg for a little extra flavor. i also slice the strawberries very small so that it takes me longer to eat them.
lunch: (lunch is my favorite meal because i always get to choose what im having)
3 cups of raw spinach 🥬 21 cals
3 oz of chicken, grilled (seasoned) 🐓 128 cals
1/4 cup of shredded carrots 🥕 20 cals
squeeze of lemon 🍋 0 cals
toss as a scrumptious salad. im a picky eater so this is how i eat my salads and it is so so yummy! season your chicken with a small bit of cajun seasoning to make it really flavorful. sometimes if i am in need of a crunch i will crush up a ritz cracker and toss with it.
total cals = 159 cals
dinner:
one slice of keto bread 🍞 35 cals
5 pieces of thin sliced turkey 🦃 62 cals
one slice of tomato 🍅 ~ 3-13 cals
6 slices of cucumber 🥒 5 cals
one cup of white cheddar popcorn 🍿 70 cals
total cals = 175 to 185 cals
assemble the bread, turkey, tomato, and cucumber into a sandwich. i use great value smoked turkey breast, lewis 35 white bread, and smart food popcorn.
hope you guys enjoy if you try these out!!!
peace and love friends 🫶

Jane*
Dinner tonight was extra hearty with root vegetables, soups and thick breads. Dessert was even better per the request of the captain. Baked goods stuffed with cream made from milk. Being on the ship meant using spoilable items first. Jane decided that she would come along for every supply run if it meant getting to try more sweets.
After dinner she headed back to her cabin for a relaxing bath. Roman had Caden delivered the gifts to her cabin despite her insisting to help. When she was finally alone, Jane had time to relish in the beautiful items she now called her own. She scrubbed her skin soft and bathed in the most luxurious scents. Vanilla and peony. She finally got the expensive soap she always wanted with bits of flower encased on the inside. She miraculously found hair products that agreed with her hair which meant that she could finally wear her hair down for a bit. The moisturizer was the icing on the cake. She didn’t have to heat it on her hands in fear of a white cast. The cream was slightly opaque and smooth. It smelled spectacular. Then came the tooth powder which came in different flavors. Never in her life had she heard of tooth cleaners coming in different flavors. Back at home tooth cleaning was bitter, sour and strong. For the first time she could clean her teeth and not grimace at the taste. Mint. Minty tooth powder, a step up from the dull powdery tasting kind she’d been using.
By the time she was finished prepping for bed she realized her arms were sore. Never in all her years had she spent so long grooming herself. Back in London she got 10 minutes in the bathroom after a long day—Even less if she was getting ready for work. She shared a single bathroom with 8 other girls. Now she didn’t have to wait for anyone.
As she added oil to her hair she realized that she enjoyed taking care of herself more than she realized. Now she had time to look at herself in the mirror—really look at herself. The more she stared at her reflection the longer she’d realized how alienated she’d become to herself. Who was the person looking back at her ? With the hustle and bustle of life she never had time to do more than what was necessary.
Where had her 15 year old face gone ? Had the years flown by that quickly ? The baby fat of her cheeks were fading. Her eyes gleamed with a solemn understanding about the world. Her full lips were still there, so was the nose of her great grandmother and the almond upturned eyes of her father. Her long neck reminded her of the regality of her mother. On her face etched not only the pain of her past but distant faces she had no pictures of. It was in her reflection could she see every single person who once loved her. Her grandfather, mother, father and more lived in her features. The longer she looked the more the grief crept towards her. She put the mirror down and wrapped her hair in a silk scarf. She figured it would be better not to end the night in a sad mood. She slowly pulled on a silk nightgown and climbed into bed with a book beside her. She didn’t make it to the next chapter before falling into a deep sleep.
Roman
Roman stared out into the crashing waves trying to decide his next move. Roman never worried much about storms but now things were different. Jane was only just days apart from being terrified of him and everyone on the ship. Now she was to relive the very event that changed her life forever—a storm. This would be the biggest storm of the season which meant a very rocky night for everybody. He hoped that perhaps she could sleep through the storm if the weather turned in his favor. He knew to be realistic when it came to the ocean.
“ Lower the sail and batten down the hatches. Tie up the loose ends and hold fast!”, Roman snaps to his crew. Men climbed up the ropes leading to the sails to lower them.
Roman’s Helmsman Cortez agreed with his decisions as he slowed the ship to an almost complete halt. “ Good thinking Captain. Wouldn’t want to piss her off anymore than she is now”.
Her …meaning the ocean. The ocean was undoubtedly a woman for all the good and the bad it encompassed. It was vital and a mother to all life. The ocean had to be listened to and reasoned with. Where he came from, the ocean is a god. A god that was to be respected in every way possible. While Roman was far away from the stories of his culture after all these years, his love and respect for the ocean remained.
Jane
The ship rocked violently, nearly tossing her from the bed. She sat up in panic and watched her vanity slide around the room. Books and boxes flew as she tried to gain her footing. She grabbed her robe and scrambled to her door, flinging it open to see a rush of men shouting and running around the second floor. This is what she was dreading. Everything seemed to slow down as she watched what felt like the inevitable destruction of this ship.
“ What’s going on ?!”, she yelled from across the room at Caden.
“ We hit a bad storm. We couldn’t sail ahead of it but don’t worry, we’ve got it under control. Get back into your cabin!”, Caden shouts back, covered in water.
It sure didn’t seem like it. Her heart began to race as she headed for the top deck. If this thing was going to sink she’d rather be at the top than the bottom. She raced up the stairs of the ship coming out to see monstrous sized waves coming towards the boat. They were so high they nearly blocked out the light of the moon. Jane froze and she couldn’t seem to catch her breath. Strong arms picked her up and carried her into a warm dim room.
She’s in Roman’s Quarters. He’s covered in water but he seems level headed unlike her. He holds Jane and places her at his table, kneeling in front of her. Her eyes are round and wide with panic. “ Alright, I’ve got you”, he whispers to her and he holds her head in his hands. She’s clutching at her chest, hungry for air.
“ I have to get off! I have to go! ”, she wheezes and begins to pull from his grip. Her feet push into his stomach as she desperately tried to claw herself from him. She was no match for his solid strength however.
“ You’re fine…you’re fine— here. Focus on just my voice. Jane…focus on my voice ”, he soothes. Jane becomes even more belligerent. Her cries fill his cabin and she sounds almost wounded. Her whimpering nearly sweeps away his composure as hot large tears wash over her cheeks.
“ I-I can’t do this again!”, she panicked. Her breathing became even more erratic. Roman shushes her and places a hand on her chest and his.
“ Watch me”, he breathes through his mouth and out of his nose. She follows suit, desperately grasping for relief in the noise of her panic. “ Again”
She follows suit mimicking him the best she can. She’s not in the clear yet but she repeats it over and over again as he whispers soothing words to her. He grabs a handkerchief from his table and wipes her wet face. Roman looks down to see how tightly she was holding his hand.
“ I often forget how scary a storm on a ship can be through the eyes of someone else. The waves are huge and it seems like the water goes on forever. But you must have some faith in us Jane. We’ve been sailing for a very long time. You are safe here”, he reassures her. Another thump of the ship sends her crashing into his arms. She stays there for a few minutes trying to slow the rate of her heart.
When Jane finally calmed down and she became aware of the fact that he’s cradling her face again. He’s looking at her like she’s the most delicate thing in the world. This is the closest they’ve ever been. His thumb brushes softly against her cheek as she studies his face.
He’s insanely beautiful. So beautiful in fact that the scar faintly running from his eye into his eyebrow is simplyan accessory. A few slow breaths later and the roaring in her chest becomes a hum. Her breathing has slowed and the tremble in her hands reduced to a twitch. She lost her train of thought in the depth of his warm eyes. Has his beard grown in the last few days? Why does he smell so good—like cedar and herb laced cigars? God, his hands are so warm and calloused. She only comes back to herself when she realizes their noses we’re about to touch. She goes stiff in his hands with a gasp and he immediately drops them from her face. She stands up and steps back in a panic, stopping just as his door.
“ Jane please forgive me” he reached for her but she walked quickly out of the door before he could finish.
Roman *
A week passed since that night and Jane has regressed back into herself. She doesn’t wear the dresses he bought her. She barely looks at him. If he could turn back the clock and redo that night over he would have. The warmth of her gaze is gone and he’s snapped back to the reality of this situation. Jane does not want to be here and she’s waiting for him to find her a place to stay. Another week of her avoidance passes and he realizes that in three days they’d be sailing up to Totoguam. It was a small island with beautiful infrastructure and a good mixture of people. This would be where he would leave Jane. This is what she wanted.
However, this isn’t what he wanted at all and that scared him. He didn’t know what she thought of him now. Perhaps she thought that his generosity was all a ploy to get her in his cabin. He hated that thought because it wasn’t true. Roman had absolutely no plans on taking advantage of Jane but how could he explain that to her? That he hadn’t even thought of kissing her and then suddenly he did. That he was just as surprised as she was when he caught himself. There was no point in explaining. He would make this right. In the afternoon he finds her in the library and he can see that she’s caught off guard. She stands defensively but her eyes do not meet his own.
“ I’ve found a place for you to stay. It’s called Totoguam. It’s far enough away from England and there are no British soldiers there. It’s relatively peaceful. We can get you set up there with a place to stay. It’s one of the better places for women who are alone.”
“ I see”, she raises her gaze to meet his. He doesn’t look happy. They both knew that this would come regardless of what transpired. She nods, “Thankyou”.
“ It’s no problem at all M'lady. Good evening”, Roman tips his hat and leaves the library. A familiar ache in his chest. Disappointment.
Jane*
Totoguam was beautiful and faintly reminded her of the Caribbean. There was music and beautiful men and women. Their faces were sun kissed and speckled, ranging from glowing tans to deep rich browns. Stepping onto the dock she understood why women like it here. It’s because there were so many of them working alongside the men.
She followed quietly behind Roman as he led her to an inn with a pub. It was loud and lively as men drunkenly sang and drank the mid afternoon away. A tall woman standing at least 6 feet waved as she saw Roman from behind the counter.
“ Cap’n Roman! that you ya’ big lug ?!” Her eyes widen as she throws a rag over her shoulder and shoots him a big smile. She had both a feminine and masculine air about her. She was muscular with a beautiful face and short red hair that came just over her ear. Her ears were covered in gold piercings and she dressed in men’s casual attire. Her lips were painted with red lip rouge.
“ Alicent! How are you?”, Roman leads Jane over to the bar and they sit.
“ I’m well. At least as well as I can be dealin’ with these imbeciles. Oy’! Put that chair down or i’ll give ya’ a Glasgow kiss!!”, she yelled at a man from across the bar. He immediately sits down. Alicent seemingly ran a tight ship.
“ I see you’ve got your hands full”, Roman takes off his hat and places it on the bar. Alicent slides him a pitcher of ale.
“ This your lady?”, she eyes Jane.
“ No. She’s a guest on my ship and she’s actually the reason I’m here”.
“ Nice to meet ya. Alicent and you are…?”, Alicent holds her hand out to Jane and Jane takes it smiling at her. She already liked Alicent, she had a warm comforting air to her.
“ Jane”, she smiled
“ So, tell me what favor do I owe?”, Alicent rolls her eyes playfully at Roman. Roman slams his glass down on the table refilling his glass.
“ The lady needs a room to rent and a job—aaaaand possibly a new name too”.
“ She in trouble with the law?”
“ Yes, wrongfully accused. However they likely think she’s dead. The ship she was on sank”
“ Can you cook?”
“ Y-yes ma’am. I used to be one”, Jane clears her throat nervously. Alicent slides a glass towards her and fills it with wine.
“ You’ve got yourself a job. Can you start tomorrow by any chance ?”
“ Of course”, Jane smiled thankfully.
“ After this I owe you no more favors. We’re even”
“ Of course”. Roman drops three coins on the table and Alicent playfully pockets it. “ You two make yourself comfortable. My shift ends in about 30 minutes. I’ll show her around and get her set up”.
“ You’re a life saver Alicent”, said Roman. She playfully rolls her eyes and heads back towards the customers. Their corner of the pub turns quiet. Jane takes a slow sip of her wine as she sets in their looming goodbye.
“ So….”, she begins. Roman turns to her. Something is bothering him and she can tell but he’s hiding it. “ Where do you know Alicent from?”
“ She was my Quartermaster. You’re in her old room actually”
“ But I thought only men could be pirates ?”
“ Pirates are criminals little Dove, we make our own rules. And while pirates are traditionally men, it didn’t matter much to me. Where I come from women make the rules alongside men. Half the time they controlled the decisions of the house. It used to be matriarchal.”
“ Oh wow. Hard to imagine a world where women were in charge. It’s never been like that for me.”
“ Well that’s why I figured it be good to get you under Alicent’s wing. She’s respected here and this is her Inn. She won’t let anything happen to you”
“ Thankyou Roman…for everything”, Jane looks him in the eye this time. The warmth of her gaze heating his face like the morning sun. He took a picture of her face with his mind, wishing he could frame it.
“ It’s the least I could do…and I wanted to say sorry about….”
Janes brows wrinkle in confusion. “ Why are you apologizing ?”
“ Well because I didn’t want you to think me a liar. Especially after what I said on the dock”
“ I believe you to be a man of your word Captain. I was just …overwhelmed is all. I am not close to many people….I get nervous at times. My head was swimming and I—don’t be sorry”, she stuttered. She wanted to say more but she stopped herself. It didn’t matter now.
His brows raise in relief. “ Okay” he says.
“ Okay ” she sighs. A silence settles over them but the tension eventually melts away from the drinks. “ You’re very tall”, Jane blurts flatly. “ I think you’re the tallest man I’ve ever seen. Are people tall where you come from ?”
“Many are… some aren’t. I didn’t think I was tall but rather the people overseas were small and weak from the food they ate. Boiled meat and soggy bread can only do so much for a person ”, he snorts. Jane giggles, holding her mouth. Roman smirks at the sounds of her muffling her laugh.
“ Oh? I didn't know your disdain for the food ran so deep. Was it not seasoned to your liking? ”, she laughed.
“ No…and ya’ know…For people who claim that their god favors them so much, you’d think he’d give them better food and less barren crops”, Roman loosened his hair and propped his feet up.
Jane's eyes widened at his whitt. He sure had a point. They were constantly battling famine with wet rodent filled crops and terrible weather. Sounded like a curse to her but who was she to pretend to know the intent of God? “ Do tell me your other opinions Mr. Roman”, Jane chuckled and took another swig of her wine.
“ Ahh let’s see…”,, Roman rested his hands behind his head as he thought. “ I think all monarchs have rats for brains. And judging from what I’ve seen crawl from under their wigs, I’d say my guess isn’t that far off”.
Jane bursted with a loud chuckle, this time covering her entire face. Roman joined her, loving the sound of her abrupt laughter. He liked this version of her. Her guard was slipping. It was just a shame this would be the last time he saw her smile.
“ I can’t argue with you there. I used to work for an Earl and his lady wife. They had me clean their wigs and one day as I was shaking them out, a mouse jumped on my hand. I’d never screamed so hard in my life. They had the nerve to shout at me like I was crazy,” Jane snorted.
“ These royals I tell ya’. All the money in the world and the dirtiest people of all. I had to watch where I stepped back in Germany. The ball room seemed to be a favorite toiled of theirs”, he shivered.
Jane made a playful gagging noise “ That’s just strange”.
“ Strange isn’t the word. It’s uncivilized. But my people are the savages ? Last time I checked my people my people don’t defecate where they walk. Not even a dog will sleep in it’s own excrement if it can help it”.
Roman tried to adhere to every code and every rule established for him. He was exceptional by force. He had to be great or he was disposable. He spoke foreign languages, traveled, studied hard, out fenced his peers, and even earned the best marks. All the hard work and submission to his situation got him nowhere in the end. He was bitter for a long while—not because he felt betrayed but because he thought he could stop his fate. No matter how special he was for a savage…he was still just that to them. A savage. He unlearned his gods, put away his religion, he left behind the names of his father and his great grandfathers and adopted the life of someone else. Someone more simple. Someone not him.
“ You have a point”, she shrugged.
“ Maybe. Maybe not. I’m just all vinegar”.
“ I find you to be very sweet”.
He grumbled, “quite a few people would disagree with you m’lady. Here”, he pushes a plate of fresh bread towards her and she accepts. The two fill their bellies while people watching and dialing into the conversations around them. She felt safe with Roman, especially in a place with drunk men. No man would harass her with him around.
“ So what do you plan to do when I’m gone ? I know you’ll be working as a cook but what else ? What did you do for fun back in England ?”
“ I didn’t have a lot of time to do what I wanted. I worked 6 days a week. I loved to read but I was constantly working and by the time I got off my shift I was exhausted. I hope I have more time to read in my privacy here. Even if it’s just for a day.”
“ I’ll put in a word to make sure Alicent gives you good hour.”
“ Oh you don’t have to do that Roman.”
“ Consider it my final gift to you.”
Roman notices her face drop. She can’t hide that the disappointment hits her like a truck.
“ New life….new name. This will be good for you”, he encourages.
“ I suppose so. I did it once before, what's another go at it right ? But what about you ?”
“ What about me?”
“ Once you find this treasure what will you do?”
“ Whatever I desire. I’ll always love the sea. I’m sure a day will come when I decide I’ve had enough and when that happens I’ll have the funds to do so.”
“ I wish you the best of luck Roman”, she smiles sadly at him.
The pair are interrupted by Alice who tiredly sat at the table and threw back a cup of ale.
“ So Jane, how about a tour ?”, says Alicent.
“ Let’s do it.”
Alicents pub sat underneath a three story high inn that held 24 rooms. The kitchen was relatively small with only two other cooks. Alicent was also a tenet of a small home with small bedrooms to rent. This is where Jane would be staying and paying a small price to live. She was used to living with strangers so it would be no difficult feat for her.
Although the space was cramped, it was pretty clean and tidy. Alicent seemed to care about it and it reflected in the quality of the home. Roman however, was not pleased at all.
“ Alicent can I speak with you for a moment?” He asks his old friend. They walk outside as Jane continues to take in her new home. Moments later they both walked back into the room.
“ Change of plans…and residency. We have something better for you”
“ Are you sure ? I’m okay here. This is the nicest place I’ve seen for servants.”
“ I assure you it’s not a problem. Follow me.”
A five minute walk down the road brought them to a cottage about 5 minutes from the outskirts of town. They walk inside of an empty house. It was relatively small but beautiful.
“ This is much better and she’ll have enough land for a few animals too. A nice side job for any extra income that she needs— “
Jane’s face contorted in confusion.“ Wait, you— what ?”
“ This is the house you’ll be staying in. I bought it.”
Jane grunts with disapproval. “ Roman— I”
“ It’s not problem”
“ It is. This is far too generous Roman. I’m okay living with other people, I’ve done it all my life. This is far too expensive and kind for someone you barely know.”
“ I don’t care”, Roman says in a final tone. The two stare at each other with challenging expressions.
Alicent eyes the two.“ Well you two sure do bicker like you know each other”, she chuckles. They glare at her.
Alicent crosses her arms tired of the silence wafting between her two guests. “ Alright. Do you want the house or not?”
“ This is final. I bought it. It technically belongs to me so you don’t have to worry about anything. The payments for the house are low. It’s stable…it’s actually got some ventilation. I thought you’d be happy ?”
“ I am happy I just….”, Jane sighs, giving up expressing anything.
“ Well then it’s settled”, Roman insists.
Roman *
He didn’t understand this sudden change in demeanor. He thought she’d be jumping with joy from a gift like this. Now she wouldn’t be surrounded by sweaty sailors. She’d get her wish no matter how much he wanted her to stay.
Later on that evening Earl and few of Roman’s crew helped bring her belongings back to her home. Caden shopped at a nearby livestock farm picking a few animals for her. Roman watched her sit quietly in the corner watching helplessly at the entire interaction. What isn’t she saying? Why is she looking at him with such disappointment ?
When everything was settled he watched Jane's eyes rest in defeat. She insisted that they walk down to the dock together so that she could say goodbye to Caden and see them off. He obliged and the walk back was quiet. Caden and Jane talked quietly eliciting a few giggles from her. She seemed very comfortable around him. He imagined that the reason for her sadness is losing a friend in him.
“ Goodbye Caden. It was nice meeting you”, she held out a hand to him but he pulled her in for a hug. She looked a bit startled but exchanged her surprise for a warm smile, hugging him back.
“ Goodbye Caden. It was nice meeting you”, she held out a hand to him but he pulled her in for a hug. She looked a bit startled but exchanged her surprise for a warm smile, eventually hugging him back.
“ Nice meeting you M’lady. Shame you couldn’t come with us. Maybe we can visit after all this? Though I can’t promise it won’t be for a long while. Maybe next winter after this one ?”, he turns to Roman expectantly . His expression is hopeful, almost like that of a child to a parent.
“ I suppose if it is alright with her”, Says Roman.
“ Visit me anytime. Always happy to see my old friends who helped me out so much”, she smiled sadly.
Caden went ahead before them with the other sailors. They awaited in the distance giving the two some space. Roman put on his tricorn hat which gave his eyes some room for honesty. The two looked around the bustling dock filled with workers running from left to right. The sun was setting and people would soon be retiring for the day. He could see Alicent in the distance having a drink outside with her co-workers. His eyes fall over the beautiful Jane again.
The sunset suits her beautiful skin. There’s a glow that reflects off of her, making her look somewhat benevolent in this light. He notices how watery her irises appear and he realizes in that moment that maybe he should have begged her to stay. She shamelessly wipes a tear away and closes the distance between them. He towers over her frame but yet her hug feels as big as him. She squeezes him tight and he returns the embrace, cradling her head to his chest like she was made of glass.
He imprints the smell of her hair into his memory. He tries to memorize the feel of her against his chest—her hands that dug into his flesh desperately. The way he could feel the flutter of her little heart against his stomach. She pulls away too soon but he hides the ache of it. This was inappropriate. This hug was inappropriate and far too familiar. A man does not hug a lady he barely knows. Her expression slowly fades to formal again and she slowly lifts her dress and slowly curtsies with the utmost respect. In return he tips his hat to her and turns away, returning to the paddle boat headed back to his ship.
“ You sure this is the right thing to do cap’n?”, Caden asks as he pushes the oar in sync with another ship mate. Roman doesn’t answer. Everytime Roman looks back it appears that Jane has gotten closer to the edge of the dock. Every alarm is going off in his body. As they docked the ship his heart began to race in objection. It felt as if she’d attached a rope to him and the further he went the more his body bent against the pressure of it. Pain. He felt pain somewhere that he hadn’t in quite some time.
As he barked orders he went into himself. His mouth shouted commands he couldn’t hear. Sweaty palms rubbed against the sides of his trousers. He looked back to see her standing at the edge of the dock. The ship sets sail and her tiny frame becomes smaller and smaller.
“ Go back for her ”, Caden says firmly.
“ No. She wants to be here.”
“ That’s not true and you know it Roman.”
Roman looks at his cabin boy incredulously for his tone. Caden’s firm look doesn’t falter. They continue to sail and Roman points his spyglass at her tiny frame. It magnifies her but only so much. He can see the outline of her body sitting on the edge of the dock now. His body screams at him. This isn’t right. Caden isn’t done fighting.
“ Go back for her!”
“ I- i can’t”
“ Why?”
“ She’s—-she wants a new life”
“ She’s safer here. You want her here just as much as I do. Go back for her.”
“ I- “
Roman paces the weather deck impatiently. His crew took notice but said nothing, continuing to set sail East.
“ Captain…I’m not the only person on this ship who saw the way she looked at you. She didn’t want to go and she was my friend too! You can’t just leave her.”
Roman wanted to rip his own ears off.
“ You will regret this for the rest of your life if you do not turn around and get her ”, Earl spoke up in his tremulous voice. Roman paused at that. The older man’s regretful tone stunned him because it sounded as if he experienced it himself. “ Go to her”, Earl adds silently. His voice was the final nail in the coffin.
As if his body was simply waiting for his permission, Roman speeds into action. He quickly begins to untie the rope to the paddle boat alongside the ship. Earl and Caden assist him. He dives into the water and climbs into the paddle boat, beginning a frantic paddle back to shore with his oar in the water.
Soaking wet and paddling back to shore for the woman of his dreams wasn’t something he foresaw in his near future. When he finally docked it was almost night fall and Jane was gone. There were barely any people on the dock now. He looked around frantically for her. He checked the pub but Alicent was no longer there. He asked around about her but everyone had not a clue of who she was quite yet.
He made the journey back to her house and just half way there he spotted her. She was walking slowly back to her new abode. As if her body sensed him before her mind could, she stopped. Jane slowly turns around to see Roman standing there drenched in water. He was panting and his expression was unsure. He felt foolish as she took in his frame but her eyes reaffirmed his decision.
“ I’m sorry. You…probably think I'm an absolute fool and you’d be right but —everything in me told me to turn around. I don’t know why Jane”, he rushed. It was cold now. The sun was just about to disappear behind the ocean and the chill of the night was getting to him.
Jane looks at him for a moment. Her eyes were swollen and so were her lips. She’d been crying and that breaks his heart. He hated the idea of how she’d fair if he hadn’t come back. If maybe he’d done more harm than good.
“Come with me Jane….please”, he says firmly. Though his expression is anything short of afraid. Her eyes well up in relief as she puffs out the tension building up inside of her. The remaining tears she was saving for the privacy of her home spilled over onto her cheeks. A watery smile spreads across her face.
“ Okay ”

A Chef's Treat- Sanji x F!Reader
Not gonna lie, I've been a little nervous to write Sanji's character, but I want some practice, and I love the idea of someone cooking for that man. (As a chef, that's all I ever want) Here's a little fic to test the waters with that sweet boy.
CW: none, fluff, fem reader, black fem reader in mind, not proofread bc I'm emotionally exhausted
It was your job to feed people, and you took it very seriously. There wasn't a reason for anyone to be hungry when you're around.
You saw a lot of people come and go on your island. The bright, hot weather meant that people to could vacation year-round, and there was plenty of yummy food always in season. It was your own personal paradise, and while you did like to see other islands, your home was in that busy seaside town.
And the sea meant all kinds of people, so who knew what your customers would be like to day. You had just finished up your small break when you heard a good amount of commotion at the entrance.
"Food time!"
The servers peeked from the back and whispered amongst themselves nervously.
"What's going on?"
The group turned towards you before looking back on the dining floor. "It's the Straw Hat crew!"
"...okay, and? We see pirates every day here." you grumbled as you fixed your apron around your waist.
"They're dangerous!"
"They destroy towns!"
"Look at the bounties!"
You rolled your eyes. "As long as they have Berry, then I don't see a problem." You walked out to the main dining area, waving at your regulars as you saw the crew settle in.
A red-head pulled on the cheek of Straw Hat. You were a bit surprised yourself. You heard the tales and read the paper, but up close and personal, the crew seemed like a hungry bunch of friends who were goofing off.
You placed a basket of bread down which was immediately grabbed by the captain. "Welcome, I'm the chef here. Thanks for coming by. What can I get you to drink?" A mess of orders was shouted by the captain--mainly being meat--but you did here the drinks ordered: sake, wine, milk, tea, orange juice, water. You nodded and went to back where you glared at your servers who gave into your stubbornness and prepared the drinks.
When you returned, the woman reached into her bralette and handed you a stack of berries. "This is just to start. I have no idea how much this idiot is going to eat." You were shocked by the amount but giggled to yourself. The money was secured, so there was nothing to fret over.
The crew was there for a few hours--eating and drinking--when a blonde man entered and joined them carrying four large bags filled with groceries from fruit to cured sausages. He placed the items down carefully before squeezing himself on the edge and lighting a cigarette.
"Got everything you need?" the long-nosed one asked.
The man sighed deeply but looked satisfied all the same. "Yes thankfully. I'm surprised Luffy hasn't eaten everything from this place yet. I could use a bite to eat myself."
"Well, I'm glad to be of service." you beamed at the man as you placed a plate of vegetable pasta in front of him. "Here's somethin' light for you." the man looked up at you, and it was like his eyes became hearts.
"Mademoiselle, the heavens must be blessing me if I get to me you on this simple day." he cooed at you.
You chuckled before waving your hand. "Just call me, y/n. And eat up!"
"I'm Sanji," he then paused, "I'm never one to refuse food, but how could I take the fruits of your labor?"
You giggled before shaking your head. "Don't refuse the chef! I want you to enjoy my food. You must know how I feel."
And Sanji did, so he took a forkful and placed it gently in his mouth. The flavors bombarded his tongue, and he felt his cheeks warm from the obvious care and attention that was made. He practically melted in his seat and looked up at you with soft eyes. "Delicious," he purred.
"Great!" you clapped your hands together. "There's more where that came from!" you turned to go back to the kitchen.
"Wait," Sanji stood and called, "I must learn how that's made! Let me follow you to the kitchen."
You pushed him back into his seat by the shoulders. "This is the time for you to rest. Us fellow cooks rarely get treated by others, so enjoy this Sanji. Please~" you winked.
The man seemed to enter his own loving, floaty headspace. He swayed in his chair as you came back and forth with dishes to try. The Strawhats spent the entire day in your establishment, and while the navigator didn't seem too pleased to hand her money over, everyone had a good time.
Sanji went on and on about how much he enjoyed your food that it did have you blushing and giggling a bit. It was always nice to feed people, but it was great to hear compliments from people who cooked as well. The Strawhats promised to come back the next day, but as they were leaving, you grabbed the cook and pulled towards your kitchen--ready to see what you could cook up together.
~~~
Sanji!!! I promise to write you more next year! You deserve it.
I want more chef fics! I feel like it's such an overlooked profession in fandoms, but I wanna come home from a long day in the kitchen and read about the kitchen with my favs lol
