marvlaen
marvlaen is an abinary neogender umbrella focusing on bright colors combined with unharmful edginess of any kind, usually associated with scene, scemo, gurokawaii, kuroiniji, cybergoth, cyberpop, raver, and related aesthetics. it represents self love and being your true self, not giving a damn while still being kind to others. its also often connected to nonhumanity or not presenting as typically human, and might involve nonhuman aesthetics and vibes along with it due to that. it is not a xenogender, however a xenic alignment to marvlaen is a completely okay experience
commonly associated terms
marvlisity: marvlaen equivelant of femininity/masculinity
marvlic: a marvlaen gender alignment
MarvIN: marvlaetus in nature
raeven: a term for a marvlaen individual, similar to person, guy or gal
mawnster: an alternative term for a marvlaen individual.
there is no maturity specific terms for marvlaen (like boy vs man)
there is no specific way to pronounce any of these terms ^^
anyone is free to make sublabels for this identity!! please tag me as Id love to see it :0
tagging @revenant-coining since I know you have a masterlist of abinary gender umbrellas :0
why a recoin?
because I first made marvlaen (then known as briscenic) out of spite, it was a blatant recoin of an already existing term called kocirine, made only because I didnt like how the creator of kocirine compared paraphilia recovery to conversion therapy. even if I still dont agree with the maker of kocirine I know way better now than to remake terms out of spite, so I wanted a chance at redemption. the only thing marvlaen and kocirine have in common now is that it relates to bright colors.
so whats the difference between marvlaen and kocirine then?
I view kocirine more as glitchcore, eyestrain puke /pos, hyperpop, breakcore, danganronpa edit kinda colorful, which is what it seems to describe itself as, while marvlaen was (re)made with things like scopermonstar's work and things like isshoku hada, monster-like makeup/fashion/cosplay etc. as a goal of the vibe. it might not seem too different to some people but theres an important enough difference to me personally ^^'

like i see this a SCARY amount from bigots and “anti-cringe” people. they just assume we lock ourselves in our homes all day and are useless simply bc of the things we do and enjoy 😭 like no dude i have a more stable job than most people (as in i don’t work retail or food service) and provide what i can for my family. and i do all of it while being a xenic puppycatgirl 🩷 stay mad

ghost trick character's genders
along with some other hcs relating to them! warnings for ghost trick spoilers and mentions of dysphoria, surgery, and pregnancy
everyone's under the cut 👍
sissel: he's a cat he doesn't know what a gender is, BUT. he was a female cat during his ten years living with yomiel (hence why he was named after yomiel's fiance). after thinking he was yomiel for a while he just. kept seeing himself as male afterwards and everyone else did too. this cat accidentally got his gender transed
lynne: a sillygirl. a sunshinegirl. a boyfriendgirl. a deadguygirl. perhaps even a puppygirl. just nonbinary woman works too though. does no sort of physical transition
missile: dog
jowd: trans man, started transitioning in like his early-mid 20s. decided to pause his medical transition to carry his and alma's child despite his dysphoria, he wouldn't do it again but he's never regretted it. now is on t and has top and bottom surgery
alma: trans woman that's also a man but not and doesn't have any gender. oh and a bit multigender. usually not genderfluid though. don't worry about it do you want chicken she's ordering some for her family. started having Gender Weirdness as a high schooler and eventually was peaceful with her gender not making sense to anyone else, because it doesn't need to! fluctuating dysphoria but the body is usually worse than social. has been on and off e throughout the years and has bottom surgery
kamila: a budding sapphic who eventually blooms into a butch lesbian. yes as her gender. also has many xenic girl varieties like her sister and general gender weirdness like her mom
cabanela: yeah i have no idea what's going on here. he simultaneously feels Very Cisgender and Very Transgender to me. idk what he is we just need to acknowledge he kind of sucks more. and that can include him being cis. either way he does drag and this is important to his gender despite not being a woman in any way
pigeon man: trans man, started transitioning within the year he quit his job at the police force. he's only binary in the sense that he doesn't give a shit about finding labels besides "man". on t with no surgeries and doesn't plan on any. everything about his transition in all three timelines is identical to the minute somehow.
yomiel: it's... complicated. he was a trans man who came out in his mid-late teens, and was on t with top surgery when he died. he had a bit of a thing about being a Normal Binary Passing Man, but being dead and unknowable with no human friends and a disconnect from his body for ten years really fucked with that. like all social conventions, he has trouble readjusting to gender in the new timeline, but he's started reconnecting with femininity and exploring more labels. mainly just says he's transmasc, still taking t.
fiansissel: trans woman with extra woman and a side of fries and dip. sorry i don't have more for you girl you have the potential to be so interesting just by being in love with yomiel but that's the *only* thing you had the time to be ingame
other random chars: memry is transfem, emma and the minister are painfully cis but supportive, amelie is a demigirl, park guy is some sort of nonbinary in an insane dollar store soda flavor way, bailey and his 'friend' are both cis but in a hand-wavey "not unpacking that" way

Yeah and a flag guide that I'll provide but keep in mind it hasn't been updated in a while and I'll have a new one soon
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Term Definitions because I can. Some definitions are personal to me and not general definitions
Woman/Girl: A gender identity that is connected to femininity and the female sex
Cisgender: Someone who's gender identity is congruent with their AGAB
Cisconfusgender: A cis person who often is unsure of their gender but always comes to the conclusion they're cisgender. I didn't coin this term but I made the flag based on a description of it
Quoieuphoric: Someone who isn't sure what gender euphoria feels like or if they feel it. I coined this term myself!
She/her/hers/herself: Someone who would appreciate if you referred to her by she/her pronouns
They/them/their/theirs/themselves: Someone who would appreciate it if you referred to them by they/them pronouns
Femme: Someone who presents femininely
Aspec: Someone on the ace, aro, or other a-spectrum(s)
Arosespec: Someone who is on both the aro and ace spectrums
Acespec: Someone who is on the asexual spectrum
Arospec: Someone who is on the aromantic spectrums
Asexual: Someone who doesn't feel sexual attraction at all (personal use definition)
Cupiosexual: Someone who doesn't feel sexual attraction but still desires a sexual relationship
Demiromantic: Someone who experiences romantic attraction exclusively to people they have formed a strong emotional bond with
Cupioromantic: Someone who desires a romantic relationship even in the absence of romantic attraction (personal use definition)
Angled Aroace: Someone who is on both aro and ace spectrums but isn't fully ace, aro, or either
Lesbian: A feminine, neutrally, xenically, or unaligned person who is attracted, usually exclusively, to other feminine, neutrally, xenically, or unaligned genders. This is a definition I came up with that I think accomplishes what the nonmen definition attempted to describe and doesn't exclude multigender/multialigned people and acknowledges the common exclusive use of today but doesn't exclude historical use. (personal use definition)
Aurora Lesbian: An all inclusive alt flag. An aurora lesbian can be considered an all inclusive lesbian
Lunian: An mspec lesbian
Bi lesbian: Someone who's bi attraction is also simultaneously lesbian attraction because it's only towards people who are considered part of lesbian attraction (personal use definition)
Sapphic: WLW, doesn't have to be exclusive.
Midnight Sapphic: A sapphic who feels othered and ostracized from the greater sapphic community for their identity
Omni lesbian: Someone who is attracted to all genders considered part of lesbian attraction (personal use definition)
Bi lesbian with bi- as a modifier: Someone who primarily identifies as a lesbian, and sees being a bi lesbian as a subset of that lesbian attraction
Neptunic lesbian: A lesbian who is also neptunic
Closeted mspec lesbian: An mspec lesbian who is closeted about being an mspec lesbian in at least one aspect of their life
Acespec Mspec Lesbian (yeah apparently it's not just the acespec lesbian flag oops): An mspec lesbian who is acespec
Neptunic: Someone who is exclusively attracted to all non-masc genders
Bi: Someone who is attracted to multiple genders. Commonly used to mean not all genders and with gender as a factor, but because of its history, it can refer to any mspec attraction
Multi: Someone who is attracted to multiple genders. An umbrella term for bi/pan/poly/omni
Mspec: Someone who is on the multispectrum
Bi-Gay: Someone who considers their attraction bi and gay (gender neutral)
Stellian: Someone who considers their attraction mspec and gay (gender neutral)
LGBTQ: Someone who is not an allocishet
Autistic: I'm not yet diagnosed and I'm working on it but I believe I am on the autism spectrum/have autism spectrum disorder. You can use person first or identity first language I don't mind either.
Queer: Someone who reclaims Queer as an identity. Not all LGBTQ people will be queer, because we should acknowledge that is has been used to harm people and they may still have trauma with the word queer.
Inclusionist: Someone who includes all good faith identities and seeks understanding before calling something nonsense.
Lykoi Lesbian: A lesbian inclusionist group that passively fights exclusionism by being inclusive.

Shoutout to indigenous systems who don’t feel seen or heard and feel invisible and like an afterthought, even in POC spaces, your feelings of frustration and anger are valid and white systems and nonnative systems of color need to do better in including our voices and not contribute to native erasure which is painfully common for us!

May 15th XDoV 2022: All About Xenogenders
Tumblr media
Hello, all! I’m positively delighted to wish everyone a happy 2nd annual xenogender day of visibility. Xenogenders and those who identify with them are very commonly misunderstood due to misinformation about what xenogenders are, how they work or why someone may want to use them. In this post, I am going to attempt to explain the concept of xenogenders for the uninitiated, particularly those who have concerns of it’s legitimacy as a feasible category of non-binary identity.
What is a Xenogender?
The term “Xenogender” was coined by tumblr user Baaphomett in 2014 via MOGAI-Archive. Ze defined the term xenogender as, “a gender that cannot be contained by human understandings of gender; more concerned with crafting other methods of gender categorization and hierarchy such as those relating to animals, plants, or other  creatures/things”. As a result, “Xenogender” is a very large umbrella term with many sub-identities.
“Xeno” is from Greek, “xenos”, meaning “strange”, “foreign” or “alien”. This is referring to the the fact that xenogenders are approached in a way that anthrogenders are not, being outside the bounds of how human society tends to describe and categorize gender, thus the description of “alien”.
Xenogenders hold an anontrinary quality that is not masculine, feminine, androgynous, epicene, gender-neutral, outherine or any other “human” quality without being genderless or beyond gender. This xenine quality is described with the aid of xenic description, which utilizes “non-human” concepts that are not traditionally used to describe genders, such as emotions, sensations, aesthetics, ideas, archetypes, media, living things, inanimate objects, situations, locations, actions, and language. Most xenogenders describe how one experiences their gender as opposed to what one experiences their gender as.
Xenogenders, as an umbrella term, have a gender glyph, which is the Iris 7 astronomical sign. This symbol, a star beneath a rainbow, represents Iris, Greek goddess of rainbows. The stripes of the flag are the various colors that irises grow. Other attempts were made toward a more traditional gender glyph while invoking the imagery of the iris flower, resulting in this glyph made from tumblr user system-lgbt in 2018.
The xenogender flag, specifically the one used in this post, was created by user pastelmemer in 2017. There is also an alternate flag that was created in 2017 by Mod Hermy of Pride-Flags.
Who Can Use Xenogenders?
Anyone can identify as any xenogender, given the particular gender identity in question is within the individual’s experience; if the identity is exclusive to a particular group you are not part of, the gender identity is unavailable to you. If a xenogender is specific to a particular group, it will either be stated as part of or along side the definition. When you are in doubt, if it is possible, it is best to contact the coiner to inquire about the exclusivity of the term.
A very common misconception is that xenogenders, as a whole, can only be used by neurodivergent (ND) individuals. The only xenogenders that are exclusive to ND individuals are neurogenders. Neurogenders describe how one’s neurotype, mental illness and/or neurological condition can effect how one experiences their gender identity. Since one’s neurodivergence can effect one’s perceptions of self, others and society, and thus their gender, they are classified as xenogenders. Most xenogenders are not neurogenders, but all neurogenders are a type of xenogender. Neurogenders do not serve to equate one’s neurodivergence with their gender; one’s gender identity is effected by, not defined as, one’s neurodivergence. Neurogenders are often used in conjunction with other, frequently unrelated, affinitive terms.
Why do People Identify with Xenogenders?
There are many reasons that one may identify with or as a xenogender. Some of these reasons include, but are in no way limited to:
Accessibility
Xenogenders and xenic description can be very accessible for some individuals, particularly children who are exploring and verbalizing  their gender, but don’t fully understand the intricacies of gender identity and individuals who better relate to and/or better understand  xenc description, as opposed to anthroine description, both neurotypical and neurodivergent.
Versatility
Anything can be used as a basis or inspiration for a xenogender or xenic-alignment, which is one of the most unique and interesting aspects of xenogenders, xenic-alignment and xenic description. This versatility allows for xenogenders and xenic-alignments to be anything, ranging from vague and simplistic to hyperspecific and intricate in essence. With xenogenders, the possibilities are limitless, allowing “non-human”, nontraditional concepts to be incorporated into gender, it’s roles and the expression of one’s identity in creative, largely unprecedented ways that have not been widely established outside of the Microlabel/Neogender tumblr community.
Metaphor/Simile
Xenogenders are far more often than not metaphorical than they are literal. Xeninic description allows for one to be poetic or figurative when outlining their gender. This feature of xenogenders allows people to partially or fully self-describe using a figure of speech, as opposed to categorizing and conveying  themselves solely using the qualities used in one’s cultural system of gender.
Genderfuckery
Another common reason that people use xenogenders is the desire to subvert anthroininity or even the concept of gender as a whole. Describing one’s gender using xeninic description for the sake “fucking with” gender is quite easy, making a prime choice for those who desire to “fuck with” gender, especially in a way that isn’t connected to traditionally “human” concepts of gender.
Reclamation
Some people use xenogenders as a method of reclaming dehumanization they experience by taking on xenogenders that they find empowering. This dehumanization can be related to one’s a-spec orientation, being transgender and/or non-binary, being intersex, neurodivergent, disabled or any other type of dehumanization that can be directed at someone not listed here. After all, xenogenders are used to describe nontraditional, “non-human” concept of gender, making them excellent for this purpose.
Alterhumanity
While the alterhuman subculture is entirely distinct from the topic of xenogenders, many alterhuman individuals use xenogenders because they relate to concepts that are not traditionally kept among humans and feel better represented by them due specifically to their alterhumanity. Because of this, there is a lot of overlap between these two communities. For many alterhumans, xenogenders aren’t as metaphorical, but tend to instead be more literal, because they are being used to describe what gender they hold as an alterhuman, not necessarily how it is experienced. Not all alterhumans identity with xenogenders and not all individuals with affinitive xenogenders are alterhumans.
Enjoyment & Gender Euphoria
For some, identifying with xenogenders is done simply because they enjoy the concept illustrated by the xenogender, or similarly, because identifying with provides them with provides gender euphoria. For example, if an individual has a deep, overarching enjoyment for something that would be considered xenine concept and that effects their gender identity for some reason, that can be the basis for a xenogender in itself. For some, it surpasses personal pleasure and because a function of gender euphoria. Gender euphoria is very personal. While most individuals can find join in anthrogenders and their qualities, others are delighted by the freedom, specificity and diversity of description provided by xenogenders.
Freedom
For those that do not experience a sense of freedom from anthrogenders due the relation to traditional, “human” subjects, xenogenders can be extremely freeing. Gender identity is a social construct. Social constructs are ideas that are physically intangible, or as many say, “fake”. This is both true and false; social constructs are real in the sense that they effect people’s lives and shape how society functions, but they are fake in the sense that they are not something that someone can touch with their skin or generate from the constituents of the universe in some way. Given that social construction are not immutable, many people feel the rightful freedom to experiment, which often leads to expressing their gender, and often their disconnection from antrhogenders, as a xenogender. What freedom means for an individual for one’s gender is highly unique. Some people go further by embracing genderlessness, autonomous genders, yonderine “gender” and even non-participation in the construct itself.
Est Quid Est
Sometimes, people are simply the gender that they are because they can be or just are; a person doesn’t necessarily have to justify identifying with a particular gender identity in order to be of that gender identity. Gender identity is a sense of self, and for some, that sense of self is best described as xeninoic. Certain people’s experiences fall in what in the lexical gap we currently have when it comes to language, so, sometimes, it simply is what it is.
Conclusion
Xenogenders are very much real and valid. They are a creative, subversive end-product of gender as a social construct. Regardless of being situated very, very far away from the gender binary in the gender spectrum, which may make them rather difficult to initially understand, xenogenders are indeed authentic and operable in their own right and are fully deserving of respect along side other transgender identities.
With today being XDoV, I would like to challenge you to take a moment to read about xenogenders from people who identify with them or, if not available, those educated in such gender theory. To those with xenogenders; happy day of visibility. Thank-you for being revolutionary.

Organizing Your Gender Hoard
Gender hoarding is the experience of "hoarding" or "collecting" gender terms that resonate with you. You might not identify as any genders in your hoard (called a non-oriented gender hoarder) or you may identify as every gender in your hoard (called an omni-oriented gender hoarder.)
We might organize our terms into categories based on how you use your hoard. Is your hoard used for questioning your own identity? Is it used to figure out all the genders of your many headmates? Are these terms just for your OCs' genders?
Here are some ways we might organize our gender hoard:
Terms based on abstract concepts, alignments, emotions, colors, etc. and organized into each of these. Does it feel like a warm gender? Does it make you think of a stormy sea? Is it aligned with an obscure aesthetigender that reminds you of childhood? Categories like "Warm", "Stormy", "Nostalgia", or others would work well here. You could even go more general - "Temperature", "Weather", or "Aesthetic" might be helpful.
Organized into Yes, Maybe, No. Use the Trello app for this (which also works on desktop), with a list for Yes, a list for Maybe, and a list for No. Each card can be a gender label. Now you can easily drag them from one list to another and easily add new labels over time. The labels that feel like they might fit you can easily change over time, so having the flexibility to change your mind can help a lot.
Organized alphabetically. This works well for a large hoard and is the easiest way to organize everything.
Separated into terms that reflect one half and terms that reflect the other half. Maybe half of your identity feels void-in-nature, so you have one half of your hoard dedicated to void-related identities. Maybe the other half feels xenic, so those terms are all genders that are xeno-aligned or xenic in some way. You can split your hoard into thirds or fourths as well.
"Backburner" terms: These are labels you don't specifically want to use, but you want to put it aside to remind you to look into it later. These can be unorganized, like jotting down a quick note for later.
Terms that give off a general vibe. Reminds you of nature? Reminds you of space? Makes you think of a specific character, song, or theme? A vague theme works just as well as a specific theme.
Separated into keywords - "fluid", "flux", "void", "floral", "food", "song", "color", "male", "female", "niaspec", etc. If you have your hoard in a document, you can search for labels using these keywords - just press Ctrl + F on desktop to search.
And of course, you can use a combination of all of these to sort all the labels in your hoard.
How do you organize your gender hoard? - Your Bigender Big Brother 💙💚

hi! do u know the genders for when your nonhuman identity influences your gender? like seeing your gender in a nonhuman lenses in a way only nonhumans could understand. like how a dog would see their gender.
here’s what we could find:
GenderNH (link): an umbrella term for a gender which is impacted by being nonhuman in some way. This includes but is not limited to alterhumans and nonhumans in systems, delusional misidentification, and vampires.
Alterhumangender (link): an umbrella term for individuals whose gender identity is tied to their alterhumanity.
Speciogender (link): a gender for nonhumans whose species is their gender.
Nohinlexicon (link): a gender which can only be communicated through words of a nonhuman language; a gender which cannot be communicated through human language.
Nonhuman Gender (link): “I know that xenogender/xenic already exists, but this is a subset of that specifically for nonhumans; not for genders beyond the scope of human categorization, but actual people who are not human (This works well for nonhuman system members and kin.)”
-honum (link): a gender that’s related to being nonhuman; a suffix for genders that are related to being nonhuman.
-ideric (link): a suffix for genders that are experienced because one’s kintype, copinglink, vaguetype, constel, or other alterhuman/nonhuman identity experiences that gender. for example, a deerideric person would be someone who experiences their gender like a deer’s because of their deer alterhuman/nonhuman identity.
Aliegender (link): when one's interpretation of gender/their gender(s) feels as though it's from a nonhuman perspective. One may or may not adopt a gender or attempt to fit into a gender but it feels like it's in an "alien trying out foreign species’ gender" sort of way.

Webgamean / Webgamic
Related or relating to online games; some examples are MMOs, RPGs, and FPS (but it is not limited to these!)
The symbol was chosen to pay homage to many of the first and most popular multiplayer web games, which happen to be very heavily fantasy based (swords and shield). The web symbol represents the internet and the connectivity/global multiplayer aspects of these games.
This is both an umbrella term for other terms, and a term that you could use by itself as a gender/alignment/etc.
Webgamic is meant to be used like "my gender is Webgamic" and Webgamean is meant to be used like "I'm Webgamean-aligned" but honestly just use them in the way you feel works best for your specific situation!
I'm interested in coming up with nouns/terminology for this so if anyone would like to brainstorm with me, hmu! I'll put a link in this spot if/when those are posted!
PSD Template + Symbol SVG (with part attribution!) in the post source link (or go to my Deviantart @isobug if it's broken)
THIS IS NOT AN INHERENTLY XENIC / XENOGENDER UMBRELLA! You can put Xenic / Xenogenders under it but please remember that!
Help with Image IDs is appreciated!

A juvelic orientation where one is primarily a xenic non-binary man, primarily attracted to xenic non-binary men. However one may sometimes be other genders and also be attracted to other genders.
This includes: (Examples of being other genders, where one never identifies as a woman)
A genderfluid individual who is primarily fluid between xenine, masculine, and neutral genders. However one is also fluid between other kinds of genders. (Such as Genderfluvi)
A demigender individual who is partly a masculine+neutral+xenine gender, and partly genderfluid.
A multigender individual who is more masculine, neutral, and xenine genders versus other types of genders.
This includes: (Examples of being attracted to other genders, not attracted to individuals who primarily ID as women)
An individual who prioritizes their attraction to masculine, neutral, and xenine gendered individuals. This could include someone who is attracted primarily to Xenoboys/Xenboys, or otherwise xenic non-binary men. However one is also attracted to other genders.
Being abro-oriented but however primarily being attracted to masculine, neutral, and xenine genders. This could include an abro individual who prioritizes relationships with those with these kinds of genders.
Being attracted to masculine, neutral, and xenine genders; however entering relationships without caring much about your partner(s)’s gender(s). This can include Cupiospec or Pan individuals.
Chaoritean can be described as being primarily MLM, MLN, MLX, NLM, NLN, NLX, XLM, XLN, XLX.
However Chaoritean can include any sort of combination of Gender-Loving-Gender terms, such as MLK, NLAG, XLGF, AGLN, GFLN, KLM, etc. (AG = Agender, K = Kenochoric, GF = Genderfluid)
This term can be comparable to Violaen / Violae Veldian, as the focus is queer love between men and anyone who doesn't primarily identify as a woman. However Charoitean has the added aspect of it being queer love between xenic/xenine/xenogender (nonbinary) men. Chaoritean individuals may identify as women or be attracted to women VERY rarely, or under super specific conditions.
.
This term was originally posted September 22nd, 2022.
Anyways I coined this to explain my orientation as a polyfluid (multigender genderfluid) abro-oriented person. I’m usually attracted to men so I prioritize that, however I’m T4T/N4N, so add the spicyness of being non-binary onto that, plus being able to talk about xenogenders with potential partners? Yes please. :)
Like the term I coined earlier (Xenaeli), this is to explain my own experience. I primarily ID as an abro plypan veldian (flexible-like with Violaen/Uranic) due to how my orientation works, but kinda wanted a catch-all term for something like that, therefore this term was born.
Generally I’d describe my gender as being M,N,X + K,GF + Weird Fem genders, and my orientation being M + N,X + K,GF,W. Basically I’m a Xenaeli individual attracted primarily to non-binary (xenic) men, however if they’re also kenochoric, genderfluid, a woman, etc. along with those genders then yeah I’m attracted to them. However I’m also aspec and pan/omni-oriented at times, so I pretty much enter relationships without really caring much about gender, but in concept only rlly attracted to men + those who primarily ID as men.
The name and flag are based off the gemstone Charoite.
EDIT: The feminine equivalent is Zoisitean.

I have said this before when I wrote my lesbian definition and I'll say it again.
Short definitions of lesbian will never work. "Women who love women" is a bad definition of lesbian. "Women who exclusively love women" is a bad definition for lesbian. "Nonmen who love nonmen," exclusive or not, is a bad definition of lesbian. "Queer love of women" is a bad definition of lesbian. Even my shortened definition of "femininely, neutrally, xenically, and unalinged people who are attracted, usually exclusively, to other femininely, neutrally, xenically, and unalinged genders" does not fully grasp what a lesbian is.
Lesbian is a very complex word. It's connotated, historically rich, and has so many varieties in what it can look like. It has its own cultures. It cannot be explained so easily as to be a simple sentence. That just doesn't do it justice. Every short definition leaves people out. WLW, exclusive or nonexclusive, leaves out the nonbinary lesbians and takes nonbinary people out of lesbian attraction. The latter is also done by QLW. But the nonman definitions exclude bigender men, genderfluid men, and a lot of other men that either are or are connected to another gender in some way. And my shortened definition leaves out the men who are connected to another gender but are solely masc-aligned.
The only way to fully define a lesbian, getting all the nuances of connotation, history, blurring of gender lines, acknowledge how its changed throughout the years, allow for both historically accurate use and modern use to both be valid and recognized, and account for the outliers that don't check all the boxes of what we consider a lesbian to be that still identify with it is through a long definition. A definition that isn't as palatably simple and easy to snap back with as "queer attraction to women." One that includes all aspects of lesbianism. One that has all its nuances and understands all of it, not just some.
Give lesbian the definition it deserves.
