I understand it's just not how the term is used here but I lose it everytime I see posts along the lines of "a poor lil meow meow HAS to be morally reprehensible! if they haven't comitted atrocities they're not a poor lil meow meow" as if that's the objective dictionary-approved origin of the phrase when in reality it came from a kpop guy. Are you calling Min Yoongi from BTS a serial killer?

Hey so I didn't really want to say this, but please do not tag anything I write or draw with (or with tags adjacent to) n/euvif/uri or f/ocal/orette. I don't ship them and I see them as way more platonic. Thankies 💕

I am so, SO happy that I'm seeing more people on twitter defending Alya and talking about how SOME people have done Marinette dirty in s5 and how said snakey characters continue to get their feet kissed by the fandom and have their actions blamed on "bad writing uwu"
There is a reason why the only characters I give a shit about are Marinette, Adrien, Alya, Nino, Tom, Sabine and kwamis atm
Many people need to understand that their fave characters aren't affected by "bad writing". They're just shit people in general sometimes lol.

Go Rush's second arc is... really mid.
I initially lost interest in the show somewhere in this arc when I first watched it and on rewatch, yeah I can see exactly why.
Nothing about it is bad, it pretty solidly ranges from okay to good the entire time but nothing about it stands out to me as special. I think it's just... five or six episodes too long for how honestly quaint its conflict is until the very last episode.
Rovian and Yuna are decent characters in this arc (Yuna gets better later for me) and while I like Ranran a bit, she and every other new character introduced this arc feel ultimately pointless as they still haven't amounted to much and honestly just contribute to my feeling that Go Rush's cast is overbloated (a problem that's only gotten worse). Plus the other new characters are just kinda boring to me anyways.
Also I can't bring myself to think equip spells are in any way cool to save my life sorryyyyy.
So the whole arc ends up feeling like perfectly fine but bland soup that just takes too long to eat. It's not bad but feels like a minor slump in Go Rush's quality. Not the worst one, mind you, but still a step down from the season's first arc.

so i went to reblog some fanart earlier and started to tag it #oh this is. incredible actually, and then paused and thought, @self why the 'actually.' what is that adverb conveying. and i contemplated it for a bit, and finally concluded: well, shit. it's reflexive deprecation.
the thing is, deprecation is my starting position pretty much always, and that's a problem in itself, but mostly my problem; but when you're talking abt somebody else's work, and you start backing defensively away from imagined negativity before anyone's even actually voiced any? you may think you're playing bodyguard, but in reality you're the vanguard of the assault, opening a wedge for enemy forces to strike.
i was talking a couple of weeks ago abt seeing ppl tag that kristin sue lucas name-multiplied-by-one post with tags like 'this is art To Me' vel sim., and honestly i think it's a similar sort of reflex—i think exposure to the tumblr vernacular often leads people (very much including me!) to produce turns of phrase like this, that ultimately serve to convey roughly
'i, a clever girlblogger,¹ am, yeah, engaging with this frivolous hai pollai²-coded material; but my relationship to it, unlike that of most she-ple, is Intellectual and Analytical and Examined! and to make that clear, i'll be dropping in these little verbal particles from time to time, in order to distinguish my own, elevated examination of the subject from the state of risible naivete³ i'm implicitly ascribing to the other, more ordinary audience members i'm conjuring up only to instantly put down—but like, it's fine, i'm a free-and-easy girlblogger(TM), so you can't think i'd ever deliberately propagate establishmentarian prejudices! never mind the effect my rhetoric might subconsciously be having, on me or on anyone else…'
and i think this framing is worth squinting at, and worth attempting to excise from one's speech and from one's mindset, because when you get right down to it? it's just yet another insidious manifestation of respectability politics, that's gotten people to adopt it via the cuckoo-chick strategy of positioning itself as cutesy tumblr idiolect.
and like, circling back around to that fanart i mentioned at the outset: yeah, the tag did feel weirdly prosodically truncated to me without that 'actually'! but this way, if the artist ends up seeing my discussion of their work in their notes, they won't be getting slapped in the face with a wet dead fish first, so like. what's more important, you know?

No but for real, you get these franchises that have been running for a half-century plus and they just accrete the weirdest similarities. The vibes. The ebbs and flows. The self-referential meta stuff where you can just smell how much the earlier works meant to current artists in their childhood.
They parallel each other because of course they parallel each other because that's how time works, they all saw the same times go by. The story has the same characters(ish) and skeleton, but this bit was of the '70s, this bit the '80s, etc. etc. They are committing Pierre Menard on themselves.
It is not the same thing to solve or commit these crimes or wear those outfits (especially the outfits) in the '60s as it is the '20s, it just isn't, there's been things that happened in the meantime, even the words aren't all the same anymore.

Decided to compute the number of possible ways the Masters could have hooked up over the years, ranging from nobody involved with each other to everyone in a polycule. The result: 2048 possible relationship configurations, 2048 reasons for the Masters to be constantly screaming at each other
Took it a step further for my own pleasure to figure out the pattern. Defining “c” to be the number of possible combinations and “n” to be the number of terms in the list, c = 2^n
