Beloved Friend

Your pain,

The world upon your shoulders.

A crushing weight

That bares down onto you.

Your shame,

Boulders being dragged with tearing rope.

With every ounce of strength,

You carry on.

Your anger,

A riptide at your heels

Swaying you this way and that;

Unable to maintain your balance.  

This overwhelming feeling,

Like venom,

Circulating with every heartbeat,

Until you begin to wither and decay.

Infection starts slow,

Until hopes and dreams

Become doubts and suspicions.

Thinking of the future

Becomes thinking of tomorrow,

Alone.

Darkness nips and pulls,

Leaving nothing but

This burden,

This grief,

Of living.

My friend, my beloved,

Share your pain

Release your shame

Leave your anger.

This anti-venom

Halts the persistence

Of the Snake.

There is a Light,

In the distance.

Closer than you realize,

Guiding your way.

Away from the consuming abyss

Of hatred and despair,

Towards Love and Hope

In the face of a friend.

Bad things happen to everyone. Not that this was an excuse or a justification for wronging another human being. Still, all humans had this shared experience—that of suffering. No human being left this world without shedding a tear, or feeling pain, or wading into the sea of sorrow.

Complicated

“Why do you give them such control over your feelings and your thoughts?”

It is because I want the world for them, though I know they don’t deserve it.

I want them to be the best version of themselves, though I know it’s impossible for them to achieve it.

I want them to be everything, though they are who they are.

I want them to be perfect for me, though they are not perfect.

I want to love them, though I can’t love them for who they are.

I want to encourage them, though they disappoint me.

I want to support them, though they enrage me.

I want to be who they need me to be, though they can’t do the same for me.

Is this tragedy or hypocrisy?

Hope Less

One of my friends called me cynical today-- I had to disagree.

I don’t believe humanity is motivated purely by self-interest. 

I don’t believe people are helpless, evil creatures propelled forward by the Seven Sins.

I don’t believe humanity is hopeless-- I have hope.

Just not when it comes to myself.

I believe I’m a human tormented by sinful desires, completely overtaken by the darkness.

Some days the light seems closer, but truly it’s a losing battle; it’s only a matter of time before I’m entirely consumed and doomed from eternal happiness and Love.

You can’t call me cynical... but you can call me a hypocrite.

Love

I want an unconditional love. 

A love when someone looks at me, sees all of me, and isn’t horrified, disgusted, or indifferent, but excited, content, or adoring.

A love where I can be my complete self and be appreciated for who I am and encouraged to continue to be the best version of myself.

A love that makes me feel safe, at ease, impassioned, and hopeful. A love that brings out the best in me and helps me accept or fix the bad. 

A love that helps me believe I can touch the stars, that people are inherently good, that I am not broken or unworthy, that I am real.   

Is that so much to ask?
