❥﹒♡﹒☕﹒𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗺𝗲 𝗽𝘂𝘁 𝗺𝘆 𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆
organization: i know it's the most trivial advice in the world, but i swear it works. before doing anything, i take my planner and review everything i have to do, i divide the study by subject, amount of things to study and review spaces for exams. realistically, you can't expect to do it all in one day, but a good plan could almost allow you to sleep at night!
a clean workspace: i can't fucking concentrate if there's a mess aroud me, i get distracted easily, even by dust, so before i start studying i always deep-clean my desk. i know that not everyone can afford a personal and quiet place to study in their houses, so try to find yourself a small angle where you can really focus.
go to study in a library / café: i didn't believe it at first, but it's actually useful. if you have the opportunity to go to a library or a café after school ( or near your house ) do so. being surrounded by people who are studying like you really helps to focus, you'll be less inclined to get distracted and procastinate. i would feel uncomfortable using my phone in a library with other people who are doing their work while i'm sitting there scrolling on tumblr.
breaks: ik ik, not very blair waldrof, hermione granger, spencer hastings, rory gilmore of me, isn't it? but is it worth it. sometimes i end up having really bad headaches from studying and, even if i keep studying, the quality of my work decreases significantly. breaks are fundamental. i would not recommend using social networks for your beak, because they litteraly drain your attention, rather do your skincare, prepare yourself a snack ( eating is important! it's what makes you focus ), read 10 pages of your book, dance a little bit in your room, do stretching, go outside and buy some mint chewingum, something like that.
EAT!: girls, boys and theys, we know. i honestly think that almost every person that craves academic validation ends up developing a sort of eating disorder. it's not even the food, is the fact that you are too busy studying that you forget to eat, ignoring stomach cramps, or the fact that you didn't get that answer right and now you don't feel like you deserve the lunch. i understand bc i AM like this, like you. but think about it: you need to do it in order to survive ( but this is secondary to the grades, right? ) and to keep your brain active. you can't walk around with blurred vision because you haven't eaten or drunk for fourteen continuous hours. i swear that eating like a normal human being helps you to keep going.
sleep: same thing as eating, but with our terrible sleeping schedules. i know that school is toxic so we end up finishing our homeworks at 2 am everyday ( if we're lucky ) but when you have the chance, take a nap and recover.
repeat things as if you were explaining them to someone: this is litterally the fastest way ever to learn fundamental concepts when you're studying. imagine that you're talking to a friend that doesn't know anything about the subject that you're studying and try to explain the topic to them. finding simple words for a difficult topic will help you understand it thoroughly, on this basis you can then build an articulated and more academic speech. repeat things out loud, doesn't matter if you look crazy, you already are <3
check and organize your notes the same day: i never have time to take proper notes in class, so i review them as soon as possible, with the lesson still fresh in mind. it really helps me understand the subject and makes the further study much easier.
watch youtube videos: youtube is my favourite class. sometimes teachers are dumber than students and you, who don't have a degree in that subject and are tackling a topic for the first time, don't understand a damn thing. ofc not!! sometimes professors are terrible at explaining stuff, but fazal from pakistan isn't. i passed my physics class with a 10/10 thanks to an indian guy on youtube. documentaries and yt videos are a simple and nice way to understand better topics and do insights for extra credits.
delete social media: i'm gonna do another post specifically for this.
"STUDY!" wallpaper: last but not least, the dumbest yet the smartest advice, set as lockscreen a white / black / whatever background with a big fat "STUDY!" written on it. everytime you're about to pick up your phone and procastinate the wallpaper will scold you.
hope this was useful or at least fun to read byee

Prologue: Crossroads
a @favonius-library secret santa gift for @stellarron
college au biker blade x barista reader
: ̗̀➛ Your job is to spread happiness with beautifully brewed coffee cups. Thanks to that, you started a new experience.
wc: 1034
Tumblr media
"Have a great day!"
You said with a smile as the customer took
the coffee and a content mood, turning your attention back to the coffee machine to make more orders.
Life was peaceful. Having a nice part time
job at the cafe near your college and working for a nice manager who understands the workload on a college student during finals.
You loved making coffee, it was a hobby that always put you in a good mood. The aroma of the coffee beans as they get crushed then brewed to a soft, tasty hot drink made according to the customer's preferences.
The smile on people's face when they take a sip of the coffee cup that you brewed so
efficiently would always leave you in a good mood.
It feels like you are spreading positive energy to your customers every morning.
– – –
The second time was in your mechanics
lecture.
You arrived late to the hall, sighing when you noticed your usual seat was taken. Luckily, you spotted an empty one and went to set your stuff down and sit. You quickly pulled out your notebook and pen, preparing everything you need to write your notes.
"Excuse me, you dropped your eraser." A voice said from next to you, you turned your head to see the same guy from yesterday.
"Ah, thank you!" You said, taking the eraser from him.
"You're the guy from the cafe yesterday."
said and he looked at you then his eyes lit up when he recognized you.
"Ah, the barista. The coffee was really great actually." He said and you smiled at him.
“Thank you! I always make my coffee to perfection to put all my customers in a good mood!" I said cheerfully before pulling out my hand to him.
"I'm (name).”
"Yingxing." He said, taking your hand and after a quick handshake you two pulled your hands away.
Soon the two of you fell into a short
conversation. Apparently, his little sister went to the café and really liked the coffee
and recommended it to him. You also find
out that he's in several of your classes and he is into bikes and has one that he drives all the time.
Before your conversation would continue any further, the professor entered the hall and you had to stop your talk to focus on the lecture.
– – –
The third time was during a project. Your professor tasked everyone to pick a partner to write a report about a topic he picked. You and Yingxing were seated next to each other and you asked if he wanted to partner up with you and he agreed.
And that’s how you two made a daily routine to meet up in the library for an hour before you had to leave for your job.
It was a comfortable routine, Yingxing is a very great and reliable partner who doesn’t slack off or throw everything on you which is quite rare since most group projects have people who are too lazy to do anything.
He also has some great tips on the topic and you two managed to successfully finish writing several points for the report.
“We did great so far, and it has been a week.” You said, packing up your stuff.
“You’re right. At our pace, maybe we would be able to finish a day or two before the deadline.” He replied as he placed his laptop in his backpack.
“I’ll have to go now, see you tomorrow!” You said as you waved at him before walking out of the library and rushing to catch the bus.
By the time you reach your station, the bus has just left and you have to wait ten minutes for the next one to arrive.
You have ten minutes before your shift starts.
You sighed and pulled out your phone to message your boss that you will be late but stopped when someone called out your name.
“(Name), why are you still here? Did you miss the bus?”
You looked up from your phone and saw Yingxing. He was on his bike, his helmet in his hand as he looked at you.
“Yeah, and my shift starts in ten minutes so I was going to tell my boss that I’ll be late.” You replied and Yingxing held out his helmet for you.
“Put this one. I’ll take you there.”
“No, I don't want to trouble you.”
“It’s okay, it was technically my fault for holding you back anyway.” He insisted and you took the helmet from him and wore it, positioning yourself behind him.
“Hold on tight.” He said before taking off, driving swiftly in the streets to take you to your job.
It was your first time to ride a bike, despite the short distance of the trip but it was amazing. Yingxing is a skilled driver who managed to take shortcuts in order to reach the café on time for your shift.
“Thank you so much.” You said after you two arrived, getting off the bike and handing the helmet to him.
“You’re welcome.” He said with a smile before putting on the helmet.
“Drive safely!” You waved as he drove off to the streets. Turning around, you walked to the café and greeted your boss.
“Hey Kafka! I’m sorry for being late.” You said as the woman shook her head with a smile.
“It’s fine, you were just on time. Anyway, who's the guy?” Kafka said, watching as you put on your apron.
“He’s a colleague from college. We got distracted in the project and he offered to take me to work when I missed the bus.” You replied and the woman smirked at you.
“I’ll be looking forward to the first date.” She teased as she patted your shoulder.
“Kafka! It’s not like that. We are just friends.”
“Whatever you say.” She said with a chuckle before walking to the backroom.
You ignored her words as you focused on your work.
But soon, Yingxing became a constant presence in your life. He became someone that you always thought about and wondered when you would see him again.
Those small meetings were the start of a new experiences, new beginnings and a new and exciting love story.

Trey Info Compilation part 16: Cater (3)
At the beginning of Spectral Soiree when it is revealed that over half the students in Heartslabyul vanished without a trace, Ace asks where Cater is and Trey does not respond. Ace says, “Oh geez…”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vargas Camp 2 is a stressful time for Trey for a similar reason.
A formerly-possessed Cater apologizes for slowing the group down after they reunite and Trey assures him, “no one blames you.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cater seems to be a fan of Trey’s cooking: Trey says that during the Firelit Sky event Cater would keep suggesting spices for him to buy, and “I assume he wants me to make some of his favorite spicy foods when we get back.”
Also on the topic of Cater, Trey recommends that the prefect go to Cater if they want to know how to get along with their classmates, as “(Cater) has a ton of friends,” and he says that Cater won’t stop asking him if there’s a trick to growing taller.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He also says that he is “always surprised by (Cater’s) ability to sweet talk his way out of things" and seems familiar with Cater’s issues at home: When Cater comments on Jamil being “driven half neurotic” by Kalim, Trey responds, “That’s funny coming from you.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trey also says that Cater is big on astrology, is right a lot of the time and has told his fortune before, and is usually the one who smooths things over at Heartslabyul when there’s an issue or when students are in trouble.
When they run into a possessed Cater during Spectral Soiree Trey says, “On the outside, at least, Cater can come off as flippant and fickle…but he would never take out his anger on someone else.”
During Beanfest Trey says, “Cater’s upbeat and friendly, but he doesn’t exactly get heavily invested in events,” and we see in a vignette that Trey follows Cater on Magicam.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We see Cater go through something of a crisis during Halloween when Lilia tells him that he may be the wisest one of them all by deciding not to get too close to anyone, only to reveal that Malleus, Sebek and Silver are his chosen family.
This might be tying into an interaction between Trey and Cater during Wish Upon a Star: Trey calls Cater out on making the same wish as the year before (“You were really enthusiastic about it, too”) so Cater makes another (“For my life at school to be chill”).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Afterwards, however, Trey reflects, “You’d think he’d be open to sharing one of his actual wishes by now. Then again, maybe he is…just not with me.”
There is a fan theory that Cater is actively keeping Trey at arm’s length in certain areas of his life in anticipation of graduation when they will all go their separate ways, as they have become too close.

heyyy, somehow gained many new followers recently. thank you very much for enjoying my work! in light of that, let's do a small introduction.
i'm Seosamh Dáire, or you can call me joe. he/him • sé/é only. transsexual butch man and leatherdyke ✦ fear tras/aiteach agus gearrán 🐗
Tumblr media
i'm a painter, comic author-illustrator, web/html artist, petty designer, smalltime archivist, passionate marxist. i like anime and virtual pets both from ~1990. as someone working primarily with past decades, i'm interested in broadening our ideas of time/place and who was in it. pro-palestine, native rights and strong proponent/student of irish-native solidarity, blm, roma, the works (uninterested in debating these topics!)
i make trans gay art for perverts and i was recently an artist in residence in the Burren, focusing on traditional paintings and reflecting/writing on being Queer In The Land.
SUPERPOSE: the tremendous dark trans sci-fi comic i make with my life+work partner Anka @kingfisher-cove . take a look! this project is my whole LIFE, and almost every piece i make pertains to it, so if you're unsure of who or what my images are of, that's a safe bet. the comic is recommended for mature readers. here's a brief synopsis,
An ongoing queer sci-fi horror comic about physics.
On the Atlantic coast, in a town called PORT CITY— “a place out of time”
While a tourist destination boasting a popular beach and boardwalk, Port City is also home to ROMAN LABS, an aerospace-turned-tech company now floundering in the tech boom.
Rafael and Royal are each listless in their own lives as longtime locals with little mobility, whose orbits have only occasionally overlapped, until now. Turning a job at the lab into a last-ditch effort for a glimpse of a more equitable future brings Royal and Rafael together, and beaches Kas, a young physicist, on Port City’s shores.
Together they seize the opportunity to alter their future and carve out a place in time for themselves, finally shaking the town and their lives from standstill. Changing history begins with the machine.
(also a supplementary web art/ARG aspect, using flat digital spaces to create a sense of 3d depth and narrative.)
SUPERPOSEBLOG @superposeblog is the repository for all updates and news about the comic.
198X.LOVE our homepage & portfolio
PATREON is where i share most of my work first, early comic pages, WIP, process and thoughts and other resources. it's a direct way to support mine & my partner's work. we are an independent team of two and i'm sure you can appreciate the effort and dedication to managing our practise as well as life obligations. for one-time support, there's also ko-fi. thank you!
i've also begun a new, as of yet unnamed 18+ comic about trans disposability/sapped as a resource + weird blood + nuclear war. so look out for that next year 😘

How I survived pchem
So, the time has come: you have to take physical chemistry in uni. Hell's favorite, the most terrifying of nightmares, the source of emotional damage for hundreds of science students worldwide... Or so they tell you. There's no denying pchem is no field of flowers, but I managed to pass the numerical part with a 4/5 and the theoretical part with a 5/5, so let me just say - pchem is definitely passable. Here's some of my advice.
Go to class
Seriously. I know all of studyblr always tells you to go to class, but with pchem I mean it more than ever. Don't skip lectures. Go see the way your professor links the concepts and explains the necessary math. Please. It'll save you so much hassle!
Abuse office hours
And don't hesitate to ask questions in class. Lab partner and I would stay after lectures to ask our professor extra questions or go see him in his office several times during the semester and it always paid off. They won't be mad! They're here for you! Chances are, they'll be happy a student is invested in their subject.
Be consistent
I cannot stress this enough: consistency is everything. Do not leave studying for a test/exam until the last minute. If you can cram pchem at all, that's impressive. But I don't think you can cram it well. Go over your lecture notes the same day - with a textbook, so that you can fill in the gaps in your understanding of the given topic - it does wonders for comprehension and retention.
Do practice problems
And if you get mandatory exercise sets you need to complete for class, try to do more than that. Looking at somebody's solution and thinking "yeah I see what's going on here" isn't enough. If you aren't able to solve similar exercises by yourself, from scratch, you don't actually understand the topic.
Make friends with a good textbook
Ideally, your professor should be the one to recommend textbooks and exercise books. If they don't, ask! Personally, aside from some Polish textbooks, I read Atkins religiously. The textbook is great. The exercise book is a lifesaver - the answer key has complete, step-by-step solutions *cries in joy*
Understand the material thoroughly
Don't just skim through the chapters - see how every new concept is "stacked" on top of the previous ones and how it complements them (why do we need the second law of thermodynamics? Why is the first one not enough? Why is entropy defined as heat over temperature and not work over temperature if both heat and work are a way to transfer energy?). Similarly, don't just memorize formulas!! See where they come from. Derive them yourself, identify the steps that are unclear and try to understand what happens there.
Less fear, more curiosity
All right, pchem is hard, pchem is demanding, sure. But pchem is also fun. Pchem is fascinating, pchem is beautiful! The intersection of sciences! The chemistry you're already familiar with translated into the universal language of mathematics! Nature explained at a molecular level! Look. Everybody told me pchem would traumatize me, so I decided to prove them all wrong. I tried to approach it with as much enthusiasm as I could and it worked! Yes, I absolutely had to work my butt off in this class, but I enjoyed it! Please, try to do the same.

Crimson Stains and Ribbons
bully!eddie Munson x fem!reader / third person oc(?)
Tried to use the name (Julia) as little as possible so it could feel more like an x reader.
Warnings: blood, mention of an oc’s name (not mine) a few times. Eddie is kinda a meanie. Eddie is kinda OOC a bit??
Summary: Eddie is jealous of Gareth's charming, cute, girly cousin that gets a lot of attention. He bullies her because he is a brat and assumes she's like a basic popular girl. Ends in fluff.
Word Count: 2,800
Request from @decadenttrashcookiehero .
Tumblr media
Her dress swayed as she walked through the empty cafeteria with Gareth by her side. Eddie’s head perked up when he heard the heavy double doors slam shut, eyebrows raising at this familiar person. She was that new girl in his English class, always wearing cute dresses with a ribbon of a different color in her hair everyday. She was always smiling and talking with someone, especially the boys who were constantly scooting their chairs over to her and sweet talking her up.
“Hey guys- This is my cousin, Julia.” Gareth introduces her.
The rest of the group greeted her warmly and began to chat amongst themselves. Eddie’s eyes narrowed at the group all huddled together, feeling left out as they all laughed and the girl giggled. Yeah, of course she’d suck up all the attention.
She waved to him, awkwardly looking away when he only blankly looked at her, muttering his name and moving his eyes back down to his notebook.
Tumblr media
He ignored her presence for the remainder of their hellfire meeting as she sat at the far corner of the stage, nose shoved into a book. And, as expected, everyone pulled her into another conversation when their meeting ended, him excluded (yet he didn’t even try to join in).
He groaned when she slid into the desk in front of him the next morning, hair splayed across her back and that stupid ribbon holding half of her hair up.
The teacher clapped her hands together to grab everyone’s attention.
“Alright, we will be in pairs for this short project. You should be able to finish it in a couple days.”
She walked up to each row, pointing to the students who will be partners.
The girl stiffened when the teacher pointed to her and then Eddie, hearing him loudly sigh. She definitely chose the wrong seat today.
She turned around, smiling shyly before offering a topic for their assignment only to get a stoic nod from him.
“Why don’t we just work on it this weeke-”
“No can do, got band practice with the boys.” He looked away from her, picking at his fingernails.
“We could just work on it at his house, and you can practice after?” She recommended as she began to pack her pencils into her rose printed case.
Eddie put his thumb to his chin, feigning deep thought.
"I guess so. Be there right after school. I'm sure you'd like to get this done as much as me." He slapped his hands on the desk and stood as the bell rang, ignoring the way her lips turned downwards.
"Oh and, uh- rosy? You can get the poster board."
"My name is Jul-"
"You can get the poster board." He blankly repeated, huffing when a student came over to your desk to ask if you wanted to go to lunch together.
“Wow.” He rolled his eyes, brushing past her and leaving the classroom.
She sat in Gareth's garage on an old milk crate, watching as her cousin went ape shit on his drum set. Her smile quickly disappeared when Eddie's van pulled up. The boys greeted him and he brightly greeted them back, walking past her as if she weren't there.
"uhm… Eddie? We should start now." She shifted on her feet and picked at a loose thread on her dress.
He sighed, showing that she was clearly wasting his time, before following her into Gareth's living room.
"So I started some research during lunch… got quite a lot done actu-"
"Then why am I here?" He scoffed as he crossed his legs on the coffee table.
She clenched her jaw, losing her patience at his attitude.
“The fuck is your problem, Eddie?” She slammed her notebook down, receiving an amused look from him.
“What? You mad that I’m not fawning over you like everyone else?” He snorted and grabbed the notebook and the pencil that was still in her hand, writing down some notes.
She glared at him, eyes scanning over his face and watching as he focused on whatever he was writing. He was right- she was mad that he didn't like her very much. She never did anything to make him act this way, and he was being a brat.
He stiffened when she scooted closer to him, her knee touching his thigh, as she leaned forward to look at what he was writing. Shockingly, he was doing the assignment, and over the course of the most awkward 10 minutes of silence he had written a bit.
“You like this creative writing class, huh?” She spoke. He only hummed in response, hand quickly writing across the paper and smudging the pencil lead in its path. He’s a lefty?
“Did you want me to leave this part to you then.. I could just start designing the pos-“
“You’re making me lose my train of thought, so- hush.” Eddie waved his hand at her as he looked through his eyelashes.
“Asshole..” She groaned and moved to sit on the floor as she started on the poster.
His eyes would flick over to her every once and a while. He almost started to feel bad, but would then remember that she’s probably just as stuck up as the popular kids that tortured him. Her kindness was probably fake… right?
An hour later after minimal small talk over the assignment, he got bored. He finished his part, which was basically more than half of the project since he got carried away, and started to bob his leg.
“Can you stop that?” She asked kindly, which pissed him off.
“Nope.” He began to move faster.
Eddie’s jaw dropped in shock when she slapped his knee playfully and laughed.
His heart clenched a bit and he cleared his throat, moving to look over her shoulder.
“You should redo that, it looks weird.” He pointed to a cutely designed diagram to the top right of the poster. It didn’t look dumb, but he just had to say something.
“R-really..?” She furrowed her eyebrows, a hurt expression on her face as she looked up at him, his curls brushing the side of her head.
He opened his mouth to make a cocky remark but instantly felt bad. The look she was giving him…
“Uh, no..just kidding. Rosy, give me your pencil case.” He avoided her eyes as he pointed to the case and began to grab some colored pencils out of it.
“Eddie, my name is not Rosy. Where did you even get that from?” She gave him an annoyed look.
He shrugged as he colored in some stuff, pointing to the rose print on her pencil case.
“Oh..”
She looked at his side profile and blushed.
"What? Can I help you?" He snapped at her.
"Wha- no.. No, sorry." She blinked a few times and shook her head.
His eyes narrowed at her and moved to her hair, pulling the ribbon out and dangling it in front of her face.
"Why do you even wear these things?" He flicked it at her face.
She sighed and rolled her eyes, missing when he grabbed the ribbon and stuffed it in the pocket of his jacket.
"Eddie, why don't you stop paying so much attention to everything I do, hm?" She bit back at him, masking how hurt she was.
He didn't say anything for the rest of their remaining hour.
"It's almost 6, gonna go practice with the band now." Eddie stood up and stretched his hands above his head, not missing the way her eyes looked at his exposed skin.
She nodded as he brushed by her, knocking her pencil case off the table.
"Oops." He snickered at her before disappearing down the hall to the garage.
She wanted to grab every writing utensil she had and whip it at the back of his head, but decided to kill him with kindness instead.
After she made some lemonade she walked into the garage, sweetly handing it to the boys and giving Eddie the kindest smile she could muster up. He looked at it like it was poison, shaking his head and turning away- stopping abruptly when she placed a hand on his arm.
"But I made it for you.. Eddie." She batted her eyelashes at him.
He raised his eyebrows and gave her an amused smile.
"Awe.. all for me, hun? Too bad your effort was wasted." He grabbed the cup from her and set it down.
She pursed her lips and scowled up at him, crossing her arms across her chest and pouting when he laughed at her and turned away.
"Hey guys, me and Julia are gonna go skating tomorrow if you wanna come?" Gareth offered.
Her jaw dropped as she glared at her cousin, stomach twisting as Eddie mischievously smirked at her.
"You know, I would LOVE to go Gareth." He said as he packed his guitar away in its case.
Her lips turned down, suddenly wanting to come up with an excuse as to why she can't go.
"Great! I'll see you guys tomorrow around 1?"
The boys agreed in unison and Eddie walked toward her, reaching to grab a cord.
"I hope you don't think this is a date, Rosy. As fucking if." He whispered in her ear before pulling away, waving to the boys as he trotted to his van.
The entire ride to the roller skating rink was agonizing. She felt like she wanted to throw up, dreading the moment she would have to be around Eddie again. She drove as slow as she could, though that didn’t help. Eddie was already rolling his eyes the moment she walked in, Gareth's arm over her shoulders and laughing at something Jeff had said.
She took a deep breath before walking right up to him.
“You skated before, Eddie?” She asked sweetly.
He snorted at her.
“Plenty of times, have YOU skated before, Rosy?” He raised one eyebrow at her, watching a light blush creep across her face.
“Plenty.” She mumbled before going over to the roller skate counter.
She hung around Jeff most of the time. He’d never been skating before and she had offered to help him, slinging his arm around her shoulders to keep him steady. Eddie had come up behind her, ripping the now lilac bow from her hair and cackling when she almost lost your balance. She mouthed a “fuck you” as he smirked, skating backwards as he flipped her off.
“What’s his deal? Jeez.” Jeff mumbled, wobbling before steadying himself on her shoulder.
She shrugged as her eyes stayed on Eddie, watching as his hair flew around with each sharp turn he took, going up to younger kids and scaring the shit out of them.
She got distracted talking with Jeff, giggling at a story he told her of when Gareth got mad and stabbed his snare drum with his drumstick last summer.
“I never knew he could ever get so mad-“
Eddie came up behind her, knocking his skate behind hers and making her fall down. Jeff almost fell down with her but managed to catch her arm fast enough so her head didn’t hit the floor.
“Eddie!” She shrieked, wincing as her knee cracked against the hardwood floor.
He was doubled over as he laughed before he noticed some blood soaking through her dress where her knee was. His eyes widened as he gulped.
“Rosy-” He quickly skated up to her, bending down to pull her up.
“Stop fucking calling me that!” She roughly threw his arm away from her.
His heart ached when he saw tears in her eyes, glaring at him with hate as she held onto Jeff when he pulled her up.
“Why don’t you sit down.” Jeff softly said as she winced, motioning to the tables on the other side of the barrier.
“I wanna keep skat-”
“Woah woah, absolutely not.” Eddie interjected, stepping closer to her to grab her other arm.
“I’m sorry, do I need your permission?” She spat at him, voice laced with venom.
“I've never seen her be like this..” Gareth whispered to Jeff, which Eddie heard.
His lips turned down. He deserved it, he knew, she was giving him a taste of his own medicine.
Eddie noticed a small trail of blood dripping under the hem of her dress. He ignored her protests, waving off the boys as he pulled her off the rink and over to a secluded corner. She crossed her arms when he sat her down, huffing dramatically and looking away from him.
“You’re a real meanie, you know that?” She mumbled, head still turned from him.
She let him lift her leg and pull her dress just above her knee, settling it over his lap and grabbing napkins from the middle of the table to wipe away the blood. He cringed at the wound.
“You’re a really good skater.. thought you’d catch yourself..” He mumbled as he tied his bandana around her knee, blowing his hair from his face so he could peek at her face.
“Yeah, well not when someone purposely trips me!” She faced him, eyes sad.
“Why do you hate me so much, Munson?” Her voice was low as she watched his fingers play with the bandana.
“I don’t hate you.” He sighed.
“You make fun of my dresses.”
“Yeah well, I’m full of shit. They’re really cute-”
“And you always pull my ribbons out.”
“I’ve kept each one-”
“You refused the lemonade I made for you-”
“I took it home, Rosy.”
She looked at him with shock, eyebrows pinching in confusion.
“You’re really mean to me.” She flatly said.
“And I thought I actually liked you. You used to be kind of nice to me in our writing class.” Her voice was barely audible.
Eddie choked on his spit as his eyes widened at her.
“I.. fuck. Really?”
She didn’t respond.
“I guess I was trying to push aside a little crush that was forming…? I was drowning in denial. I mean, you get attention from so many people- why would I bother crushing over someone that wouldn’t return those feelings.” He ran a hand through hair hair, puffing out a breath of air.
“You’re more stupid than I thought.” She jeered.
“Ouch.” He nervously laughed.
She stared at him, eyes glazed over as he pulled the purple ribbon from his pocket.
“I’ll stop being a brat now, okay? I’m sorry. Really, I am.” He looked at her with those big brown eyes.
She wanted to stay mad at him but couldn’t ignore the flutter in her chest. She chewed the inside of her lip as she looked back, trying to find any sincerity, and there was.
“A crush, huh?” She smirked, giggling at the way he rolled his eyes and turned his head away from her.
“Yeah, yeah. Whatever.” Eddie playfully dismissed her before grinning.
“I’ll give this back-” he held up the ribbon “when you let me take you on a date.”
“Pffft.. seriously? As fucking if..” She narrowed her eyes, mocking what he had said a day prior and hiding a smile as he pouted.
“Okay, I deserved that.” He nudged her shoulder playfully before moving her leg so he could take off his skates and stand up. “Anywhere you want, Princess.”
“Well, seeing how you stained my new dress, I don’t wanna walk around like this.” She pointed down to the bright crimson stain.
“I’ll buy you a new one. Let’s go.” He held out a hand and nudged his head toward the exit.
She looked at him in disbelief.
“Eddie, you don’t need to buy me a new dre-”
“I want to, you always look so cute in them.” He shyly smiled at her as he bent down and took her skates off. “Forgot about these.” He mumbled.
Eddie helped her stand, frowning when she winced as she put weight on her injured knee.
“Oh no.. looks like I have to carry you.” He grinned.
“Absolutely not!” She pushed his arms away when he went to swoop her up and struggled against his grip.
“Okay, either you let me carry you..or…” he looked into her eyes, faces only inches apart. “Or.. you let me kiss you.” He blurted out, swallowing the lump in his throat.
Her mouth fell open, heat spreading across her face and to her ears.
“Wha- what!? That’s..” She sputtered.
“You have about 5 seconds to decide or I’ll decide for you.” He mischievously grinned down at her.
She gaped, eyes shifting between his eyes and lips before he dipped his head down and deeply kissed her, pulling back with a loud smack sound. He softly smiled as he nudged his nose against hers before standing up straight.
“I choose both.” He nodded matter of factly.
Her eyes were wide in shock, unable to speak as he swooped her up.
“Your chariot awaits, Princess!”
“E-Eddie!” She smacked at his arm and wriggled around. “Our shoes!!”

Hii!! I'm so glad that you're gonna participate in the augtickletober! Please consider writing number 25 with lee todoroki, where he gets gang tickled by the boys from class 1A hehehe (I feel like I've seen many gang tickles for Bakugou/Midoriya, but rarely seen it for Todoroki, and I feel like Todoroki somehow deserves it). (Please no foot tickles) If you need plot recommendation (but feel free to use your own hehe): - The boys of 1A decided to help Todoroki practice since basically he's the one that hasn't received his provisional license. - Class 1A is having a field trip, and the boys have deep talks at their sleeping hall before sleeps and the topic of "Todoroki rarely laughs" pops up I hope this idea works well! Thank you so much for participating in this event, looking forward to it!!
TickleTober Day 25 - Gang Tickles
THIS! Thank you for the kind words and awesome ideas Anon! Definitely got my creative juices flowing! Sorry this is so late, I’ve had quite the week (O~O) And the candy-cane could definitely go with some gang tickling. Mans needs to laugh more! Did a handful of the 1A boys, just because more than 5 lers on one person gets a little iffy. Anywhosit, thank you for requesting, and I hope you Enjoy!
Lee: Todoroki
Lers: Kirishima, Sero, Kaminari, Midoriya, Bakugou
Summary: On a class field trip, the boys of 1A get to talking about their multi-quirked peer. After discovering that they all rarely hear his laugh, the goobers make it their mission to get him to crack a smile. Some fun, ticklish methods are utilized.
Warnings: none! This is a tickle fic, so if you don’t like that, scroll away!!
Tumblr media
It was a rare, yet heavily anticipated day for Class 1A; Fieldrip Day was finally upon them. They were out at one of the pro’s training facilities. One of All Might’s favorites, to be specific. The facility had a few sports fields, a training hall, and some nice barracks. If anything, it was better than a day of doing schoolwork at UA. Nothing against Aizawa; the teens just liked the change in pace. Plus, no math for a day.
Every student enjoyed the day; even Bakugou cracked a few genuine smiles. Ready to rest and recover, the boys hit the showers and got ready to sleep. Tokoyami was out the moment he arrived, not caring for small talk. A few conversations floated around the room as the male students entered the barracks, one in particular sticking out.
“Hey, Todoroki never really laughs, does he?” Sero had been the first to bring it up, but at that point, every student had their own little thought to add. “You’re right, I’ve really only heard him laugh once or twice. He smiles, but those are rare too!” Denki had seemed particularly surprised at the revelation.
“Why do you extras care? That half-and-half stiff is just taking after his father. Pros like him don’t act all happy,” Bakugou tossed his hair towel to the side, almost hitting Aoyama with the soggy thing. Kirishima, ever the apologist, tried to redeem anything the blonde had just said. “Th-that might be part of it, but he could just be a stoic dude. I wouldn’t call him a stiff, Bakubro. He’s just…a little serious.”
The tape hero jumped back in, trying to keep his conversation on topic. “Only time I’ve seen him even giggle was when Mr. Smiley attacked. Still, the guy pretty much held it in! Bakugou even laughed when he got hit, man!” That got a growl from said blonde, Sero nervously chuckling at the murderous glare he received.
Midoriya was fidgeting with his sleeve, looking down as they argued. He knew something they all didn’t, and saw a much different side of Todoroki. Iida noticed his antsy demeanor, outing him to his peers. “You seem rather tense, Midoriya. Care to share what’s on your mind?”
He squeaked at the sudden attention, feeling their eager eyes on him. “U-uhm, I dunno. It’s not really my place to share it…” Denki, bored and ever the trouble maker, pressed the matter. “Aww, c’mon Midoriya! You can’t just not tell us! We gotta know!”
The angel and devil on his shoulder fought for a few seconds, coming to the ultimate conclusion that a little laughter could do his friend some good. “W-well, I’ve seen Todoroki laugh quite a few times. You kinda gotta…m-make him, though.” The interested students hung on his every word, soaking in the new information. Make him? “What’dya mean by that, Midobro?
Izuku sighed, knowing they would want to hear more. At least Kirishima was nice about it. “He’s…he’s ticklish. Like, pretty badly ticklish. I’ve managed to get him really laughing a few times; it isn’t all that hard.”
Every teen that was paying attention seemed shocked. The serious, stoic, hardly-cracked-a-smile guy Todoroki was ticklish? It seemed hard to believe; the image of their emotionally distant peer a giggly, blushing, mess was just too obscure to imagine. Denki made sure to point it out. “No way! I’ve poked him before, and got nothing! I’d know if Todoroki was ticklish.”
Bakugou stared down his childhood friend before interrupting. He knew the greenette well enough to tell when he was lying. “Nah, the nerd’s telling the truth. Icy-hot is fucking ticklish.”
Kaminari looked like he’d just won the lottery. A goofy smirk formed on his face as he made a joke. “Wow, Todoroki is actually ticklish. I’m gonna go visit Hell for a bit, now that it’s frozen over.” Ojiro, rolling his eyes at the line, tased the goofy blonde’s side.
Iida regretted asking, feeling a bit guilty for indirectly exposing his classmate’s secret.. “Can you all be mature about anything? Our classmate would not appreciate us gossiping about this personal aspect!” Bakugou rolled his eyes, flopping on his mattress. “Pull the stick out your ass, four eyes. It’s just stupid shit, not like we’re talkin’ bout his dirty secrets or anything.”
The class president squawked at his argument, but didn’t get a chance to yell at him before Kirishima cut back in. “HEY! Why don’t we all put this info to use and, I dunno, make the guy laugh. I think we can all agree that he needs it.”
Nobody argued with him there. Not every student was up for it, some fearing retribution, others not wanting to be crispy-fried or frozen solid. In the end, the team consisted of Kirishima, Sero, Kaminari, Midoriya, and surprisingly Bakugou. They got a plan together; all they needed was the dual-quirked teen.
-
Todorki had always enjoyed longer showers; it felt nice to just stand under the water and think. He was expecting a few of his peers to question how long he took, though he wasn’t prepared to have five of them eagerly eyeing him as he left the showers. The boy tried to keep the suspicion out of his voice as he spoke to them. “Do you all need something from me?”
The electric blonde smirked, stepping forwards. “Actually, yeah.” With that, the group went into action. Catching him by surprise, Sero came up behind him and shot tape around his hands, hoisting them above his head. Kirishima held the shocked teen in place as Sero got a few more layers of tape on his hands and forearms, thoroughly restraining him.
Normally, Todo would’ve just burned throughout the tape and left. With his peers so close, however, he was hesitant; he couldn’t risk hurting them. The teen tugged at his arms, shooting a glare at his classmates. “What’re you all doing?”
They answered his question pretty quickly. Kaminari squeezed his sides, while Sero poked along his spine. He snapped his mouth shut, eyes growing wide. Oh, they didn’t. He forced out an order, managing to contain his giggles. “G-get off of me!”
This only encouraged his “attackers.” Sero used both hands, dragging his nails down Todoroki’s spine. The candy-cane arched his back, flinching right into Kirishima’s wiggling fingers on his belly. That got a snort out of him, the serious teen’s cheeks dusted with red.
“Oooh, someone’s ticklish!” It was already a struggle to hold in his giggling; Kaminiari’s stupid teases were an unfair challenge. “Sh-shut uhup!” The electric student gasped, eyes lighting up with playful mischief. “Was that a giggle?! C’mon, gimme a few more!”
Who knew Kaminari would be so good at teasing? The student definitely didn’t, that’s for sure. Thankfully, he moved his fingers to the boy’s armpits, trying to find his worst spot; he didn’t realize he had already found it. “How about here, huh? Does this tickle?” That damn word… He wished he could delete it from the blonde’s vocabulary.
Midoriya tried to conceal a smile, watching his peer move farther away from the jackpot he was looking for. He was conflicted; on one hand, it was wonderful to see Todoroki like this around other people. On the other hand, he would probably be more than a little betrayed if the greenette revealed his worst spot. Decisions, decisions… Eh, what’s the worst that could happen?
“You know you’re getting colder, right?” All four of the perpetrators turned to him, Todoroki’s eyes narrowed in a “don’t you dare” expression. Ignoring it and the inevitable revenge, he continued. “You actually already found it. It’s right around here…”
Denki parted the waters for him, letting the freckled teen do his thing. With an apologetic smile, he clawed at Todoroki’s navel, not flinching at the howl of laughter the action received. The other students’ eyes lit up, though Bakugou tried to conceal his. Izuku stepped back, leaving his friends the chaotic seed he’d planted.
Ten fingers immediately latched onto Todo’s stomach, Kaminari wasting no time. Loud, surprisingly bubbly laughter burst from him, a wide smile growing on the face of the typically-earnest teen. “N-NOHOHO! MIHIDORIYAHA! TRAHAHAITOR!”
That started a little competition; an unspoken game of “Who Can Get Todoroki to Laugh the Loudest” beginning between the four teens. Denki was in the lead, scribbling in and around his navel and teasing his lower belly. Kirishima was in a semi-close second, drilling his fingertips into the multi-quirked boy’s hollows. Sero, deciding to be a menace, toyed near his spine, tracing teasy little shapes up and down his back. Bakugou and Izuku hung back, though the explosive blonde seemed ready to jump in.
Todoroki was burning; not literally, but he could feel the heat on his cheeks. He trusted his classmates not to go too far, but damn, that shit tickled. He was mainly nervous of Bakugou; they had already found his worst spot, but he knows one more that would make the goofiness much more unbearable. A spot that Baku knew.
Deciding that he had waited long enough, the fiery teen cracked his knuckles, approaching the group. He crouched down, going for Todo’s outer thigh. He clawed at the outer edges, making sure to keep things as comfortable as they could be.
Todoroki shrieked at the addition of the spot, four people now trying their best to wreck him. It was almost maddening; all he could think about was “tickles, tickles shIT THAT TICKLES!” over and over again. His entire face was a bright red, almost matching the left side of his hair. “NAHAHAHA! GUHU- PLEHEHEASE! NOHO MOHOHORE!”
Denki saw how wild all the tickling was driving his classmate. Deciding to show some mercy, he went for one more scribble on the boy’s navel before backing away. Kirishima also took the hint, ending the underarm tickles. Bakugou reluctantly pulled away, not wanting to seem silly compared to the other two. Sero continued out of pure spite, wanting to hear the giggles a little longer.
The hot-and-cold student was wiped; five of his classmates “tormenting” him was exhausting. He practically hung from the tape restraints, giggling softly as Sero continued to softly tickle his back. It honestly just made him more tired, but in a good way. He still wanted it to end, but they were relaxing in the silliest way.
Midoriya checked the time, seeing how late it was getting. He had always been a bit of a mother-hen when it came to his close friends, even though he got injured far worse and much more often than they did. “Come on, Sero. He’s had enough.” The tape hero-in-training backed away, a smug smile on his face. “Fine. You know he was enjoying it, though.”
Kirishima hardened his hand, cutting the tape around the giggly, exhausted teen’s arms. It quickly unraveled, Todo swaying into Midoriya’s waiting arms. He carried his classmate over to the half-and-half student’s bed for the night, laying him down and pulling the blankets over him. He was out in seconds.
The rest of their classmates snickered quietly, each going either back to sleep or to their devices. The goof troop that wrecked him fist-bumped, silently cheering a job well-done. Sero, still proud of himself for bringing it up and starting it all, chuckled. “I’ll admit, that was pretty fun. Nice to see him laugh like that.”
His friends agreed, even Bakugou huffing a quiet “I guess” before heading to his bed. The teen had a strict sleep schedule, and while the tickling was fun, it did delay that. The rest snickered before dispersing, each heading to their own sleeping spots.
Todoroki found himself smiling and laughing a lot more after that day, be it from cheesy jokes or the occasional side poke. And honestly? He didn’t really mind. Turns out even the most serious of teenagers can enjoy a good laugh with friends every once in a while.

Thinking of switching careers to IT? ☕
Tumblr media
This guide discusses the learning options: bootcamps, schools, or self-learning
Note: this guide may be a bit lengthy, so I suggest taking your time to read it thoroughly. Just a heads up, I haven't included specific program names or detailed IT roles info here. Instead, the focus is on guiding you to make a well-informed decision for your career transition. So, grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and dive into the guide at your own pace ☕
So which option is good? Any of those options is fine. It's all about what works the best for you. Consider this: your ultimate goal is to secure a job once you've successfully completed your IT studies, right? From the perspective of hiring managers and recruiters, what they care about is your resume, experience, and skills. They will assess whether you are capable of fulfilling the job requirements. Your attitude and personality can also play a role in their decision-making process, which is a topic we can explore another time.
When it comes to switching careers, acquiring new skills is a logical step. Now, the question is: what is your preferred learning style? In the STEM field (specifically IT, in this case), it is so important to be able to consume information effectively as you study IT!
If you find that you learn best with a structured schedule, where you don't have to rely solely on self-discipline, then enrolling in a bootcamp or school is recommended. Note: Even during your studies at a bootcamp or school, you still will need to engage in self-teaching. It's a *MUST*, good practice to maintain this mindset even after you secure an IT job, especially if it involves a lot of developing or deploying. [ Bootcamps & Schools Options ]
There are a few factors to consider: - Costs Generally, bootcamps are more affordable than traditional schools. However, both options may offer scholarships, so it's worth exploring those opportunities. Look into third-party scholarships that may be available. If you have a disability and reside in the US, it would be beneficial to speak with a counselor from Vocational Rehabilitation. Non-profit organizations can also provide support and assistance to individuals interested in returning to education. Studying abroad is another option worth considering. Personally, I chose to study abroad in the UK due to the significantly more affordable tuition fees compared to the US, and because I had a desire to obtain a master's degree in another country. - Instructors' teaching styles It's important to note that not all IT instructors excel at effectively communicating with new IT students. To avoid encountering this issue, do some detective work. Find out who will be teaching you and check out their lectures. Don't hesitate to ask the program manager if you can meet your potential lecturer (ideally before making a decision). Prepare a list of questions to ask your potential lecturer during the meeting. Pay attention to how they explain concepts. If their technical jargon is difficult to understand, they may not be the right instructor for you. Remember, this doesn't reflect your intelligence. It's a matter of their self-awareness. I strongly advise against choosing this kind of an instructor from my experience. - Lessons There are numerous IT job types available, and in a bootcamp, you may not have the opportunity to explore all of them. Bootcamps often focus on specialized programs, sometimes even covering less popular technologies (yes, this is definitely a concern). So you should research IT fields, and once, you've decided on a specific field, take the time to research job titles and similar roles on LinkedIn. Pay close attention to job descriptions and requirements. Create a list of the high-demand skills for those positions. This will help you narrow down your choices when selecting a bootcamp program or school. Look for programs that teach the skills you need based on your research. [ Self-Teaching Option ] You are your own trainer, and you get to design your own personalized learning experience. This option is great if you do not have the luxury to pay out of pocket for a program. It is absolutely not looked down upon by employers. In fact, it is considered one of the essential job skills that employers typically look for in a job applicant. To make a solid entry into the IT field, I highly recommend obtaining certifications and undertaking project-based learning. It's important to focus on certifications and projects that align with the specific roles you aspire to have. Take the time to explore different fields within IT to discover your interests, and then compile a list of relevant learning materials or bookmark tutorial videos. Please be sure to verify that the resources you choose are up to date and not outdated, as IT is always evolving. "Wait, but what about a degree?" This approach is really just aimed at fulfilling the job requirements. Many IT candidates have successfully passed interviews without possessing a degree. Many hiring managers prioritize your ability to learn and apply the required skills. Showcasing your projects on your resume or demonstrating your skills during a technical interview holds more significance. Even if you don't possess the exact skills they're seeking, emphasizing your transferable skills will show interviewers that you are capable of learning and adapting.

Information on kosa because 99% of people on social media are either trying to scare you or completely take your attention away, and both spread misinformation
(Dated: September 7th 2023)
(Keep in mind, I am a Canadian citizen who only knows a little bit about how government work, so this is all based on what other people who have more knowledge have said)
—it is no one in the US government right now’s first concern. Yes, it’s on the list of things that are going to be discussed at some point, but no it is not far up on that list right now… especially when we’re in natural disaster season, and trying to come up with money to make it through the month whithout a government shutdown (which is also not worth worrying about)
—without the censorship part, it’s actually a good thing and very similar to what many countries already have to stop children from having their data leaked to cause targeted ads
—there are no confirmed dates yet… everyone posting about it seems to have come up with a magical date out of their ass that’s supposed to indicate when it’s being voted on, and none of them are actually correct. September 5th was when senate resumed, and December 15 the current *scheduled* date for the end of the 2324 session, provided nothing happens. Also, just because the senate is back doesn’t mean the house is as well… who is also required to work on the bill
—it doesn’t go immediately from the senate to Biden. What happens is that it’s voted on in the senate, and then the house has to review it to make sure it isn’t going against any rights and is still wise, and at that point in has to go back to the senate, then back to the house and on and on again until they have an agreeable lay out for it… or it might get dropped all together again
—Biden is in support of it… which seems bad, however considering all of the other information and the fact that it might not even look the same when it makes it onto his desk is also worth noting
—the work we’ve been doing to prevent it is actually helping, multiple people involved in the process have changed their minds on supporting it, and since it was announced to be moving to the senate in July it’s lost quite a bit of momentum
—it doesn’t directly impact anyone outside of the states. Sure, similar laws may be introduced if they don’t already exist, but just like eu privacy laws don’t affect Americans, kosa won’t affect those outside of it… also from what I’ve read I highly doubt any social media platforms are going to cease to exist because of it (that is, if it somehow marvellously doesn’t get flagged as going against 1st amendment rights and passes just as is)
—if it’s still in development/debate and doesn’t get placed on bidens desk by December 15th (or whenever this session ends), it’s dead. It can still be reintroduced as it has been I believe twice, but that’s just a deadline we’ve been given as of now for it disappearing this session
So base line, although we aren’t completely out of the woods, the whole thing is a lot less scary and takes a lot longer than it’s made out to be… however, keep calling your senators (including information about you as a caller’s position in this as in if you’re a student, minor, adult, parent, whatever.. makes a difference, especially since most minors don’t get involved in advocacy like this. And call as often as you want), advocating against it on whatever platforms you have, and stop posting videos with misinformation that scares the shit out of teenagers for views… that’s messed tf up
Also, although I don’t recommend looking at tik tok for actual updates, one specific account (@ ariella.elm) has very good, true, and cited information on this
If anyone has any proof I’m accidentally spreading misinformation in this, pretty please let me know.. and until then I shall sign out on this topic

Toph's Characterization, ATLA Comics - A Dissertation
Chapter Three - The Rift (Part Three)
Welcome back! So happy to have you here once again to critic and analyze the depressing characterization that Bryke bestowed upon our favorite Earthbending Master throughout the ATLA Comic Series. I recommend you give my other two parts a read before jumping into this one as I go into depth into certain topics and themes that'll be brought up in this Chapter!
Chapter One - The Rift (Part One)
Chapter Two - The Rift (Part Two)
Let's begin! So Issue 3 starts off where we left off in Issue 2 - Toph single-handedly holding up an underground mine with her metalbending - thus protecting Katara, her father, Satoru and multiple mine workers that are stuck underneath the mine with her.
It's a life or death situation with everyone's lives dependent on Toph and it's a race against the clock as their anxiously waiting for Toph's metalbending students to arrive and help out. Unlike the previous Chapter we actually get a small glimpse of concern out of Aang for Toph.
Tumblr media
Everybody, give Aang a round of applause for doing the bare minimum. But in all seriousness, I'll take the scraps I can get given Bryke are choosing to continuously portray Aang in a way that makes it seem that he cares solely for Katara's well-being (and, I'll soon get into one of the most infuriating panels related to this topic).
But hey, atleast we got some acknowledgment from Aang.
Moving forward we get Satoru and Toph interacting and to be honest I truthfully do not care for Satoru, but later into the analysis I will briefly dive into their relationship and why I don't care for it. Once Satoru is done lamenting his life to Toph (who is trying to concentrate to protect everyone in the collapsed mine, and it's hilarious that this dude that right then is the moment to retell his entire life story), Lao enters the scene.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Boring... Yawning... Sloppy... LAZY!
This. This is how we're going to resolve Toph and Lao's conflict? THIS?
Remember when I started off my analysis with specifying that Toph's trauma was very poorly handled and used as a means to advance the plot? Yah, this right here is why I stated that very opinion.
In the first part of 'The Rift' we're first introduced to Toph's traumatic circumstances growing up with her controlling and overprotective parents; neglected and isolated from the world. It's a plot point that the original animated series didn't delve into and the prospect of being able to analyze and understand Toph's more vulnerable and frail side was beyond intriguing.
However, as we got further into the central conflict between Aang and Toph it was proven to us that Toph's trauma was not going to be explored further than a means to justify her stance against Aang. She becomes, uncharacteristically, rude, bashful and disrespectful to most (if not all) her friends and the only person she seems to lighten up to is Satoru becomes he represents the The Future - something that she spontaneously advocates for (as she resents anything and everything that represents the Past).
In Chapter Two we get introduced to Lao and I've already covered why I abhorred his depiction and treatment for his daughter - and as I had predicted their conflict was nothing more than to (once again) legitimize Toph's clash with Aang. It's nothing more than horrendous, stereotypical, lazy and worse than fanfiction-level writing that goes against both characters' portrayals in the original show.
And this here proves it. We left off Lao and Toph's conflict with Lao not only verbally harassing his daughter but also denouncing her as his own kin. What he said was harsh, brutal and down-right traumatic things that would (and should) break the trust that Toph held for her parental figure.
To resolve this conflict in a satisfying manner, it'd logically require time and effort to adequately mend their severed relationship. We'd need a few pages of Lao coming to terms and accepting his daughter's independence and personality, see him struggling between the idealized version of Toph he's always wanted to enforce and his desire to not lose his daughter again (and permanently). Seeing remorse, regret and genuine guilt from Lao is crucial to make his redemption believable.
And yet, here, Lao is incapable of muttering a simple apology (it's hinted at, but he never get the words out). He begins to spill the beans on his supposed divorce with Poppy - and remember Toph needs to be firm and concentrated to focus on the metal that is near crushing them to death and this could potentially be quite ground-breaking and emotional news (what I'm getting is Toph is unironically every character's physiologist with the way they trauma dump on her) - and sobs about the hardships he's faced since Toph has left. He says he loves Toph and that's it. Previous conflict? Resolved! Disgusting insults and treatment? Forgiven!
Why does the resolution to this arc infuriate me so much?
We never see Lao feel remorseful (or at the very least apologetic) for his words and actions;
We never get a panel where we see Lao comprehend and understand why his daughter did what she did when she was twelve; And on that note - we never see him acknowledge her as a Master (something he had once aspired for her to become but thought impossible due to her disability) nor do we see him show an ounce of pride for his own kin despite all her insane accomplishments;
We never get a panel where we see Toph express her own feelings or her perspective on his behavior and how it affected her - she's been reduced to a badass with quick jests, not allowed to be emotional;
We don't get a conclusive and satisfying resolution - it's rushed and lazy so we can conclude the comic without leaving any open strings - but that only resulted in diminishing Toph's pain and trauma as well as regressing her character growth;
It's infuriating because a lot of children go through this type of environment throughout their childhood - and it'd be so much more impactful for such a strong character to break down her barriers and express how her suffocating that type of upbringing damaged her and affected her, how she grew from it and overcame her difficulties; there was also missed potential to show Lao grow and not be immediately forgiven for plot's sake - realistically, children aren't immediately forgiving and given what Lao said and did, he didn't deserve to be forgiven so quickly.
I can go on with my disappointment but this part is long enough.
So, Toph's students arrive and extract the metal that was collapsing the mine and everyone is rescued - Toph falls unconscious from the exertion she had just put her body through to save everyone from being crushed to death...
And you'd think people would care right? Maybe be grateful to her??
Tumblr media
Give me a moment whilst I go scream into the void.
Not a single person besides her students and father care about the fact that Toph is unconscious. Not a single person is thinking about checking on the person who has been single-handedly holding up an unfathomable amount of weight with her bare hands for a prolongated period and saved countless people in the process? No one... not even her best friends. Best friends mind you that are too preoccupied with their own affection to pay a single thought for Toph.
Remember what I said earlier that I was about to go off on a particularly aggravating panel, it's this one. Because I cannot fathom, in any universe, in any circumstances, where Katara wouldn't immediately jump to Toph's aid and help her out (and would rather cuddle up and kiss her boyfriend instead of helping the injured people). I cannot fathom, in any universe, in any circumstances, where Sokka, the proclaimed leader of group, the man who put his own life on the line for Toph's own well-being during Sozin's Comet, being this nonchalant about his friend bein passed out, possibly dehydrated and hurt.
I would say I wouldn't expect this behavior from Aang, but, this comic has done nothing but showcase that Aang's mind is centered around Katara and his air acolytes with no room for his Earthbending Master and best friend. We had a small glimpse of hope at the start of the chapter only for it to be crumbled and shattered with this moment.
I don't even know what to say anymore, I'm just- I understand that Bryke need to feed us the Kata@ng agenda (because for some reason, despite it being canon, they shove down our throats almost every issue of every chapter, to make sure we know that they love eachother) I get it I do, but at what cost. You just made the majority of the cast seem selfish and inconsiderate.
Let's progress before I start seeing red. Aang needs to go destroy the Refinery and Toph wakes up - Lao asks for her help to stop the Avatar as the Refinery is his future (and apparently the future of the nations) and you know our girl is all about the future now, and so off she goes to stop Aang.
Tumblr media
I mean- If they had developed the Lao and Toph arc with any depth or any sort of care for these characters (or at least Toph) so that this moment felt earnt in any way, shape or form, I would understand the emotional impact that would come along with Lao asking for Toph's assistance and calling her the Greatest Earthbender of All Time. But, there was no development, no growth, no struggles, no understanding, no nothing - it was water downed drama for the sake of drama. And emotional moments like these just don't provoke anything in me, other than pure, unadulterated rage because of the lack of care and attention Toph receives (in her own comic, mind you).
And we've reached the big conflict between our main protagonists:
Tumblr media
I can't completely say I despise the idea of Toph and Aang having disagreements and opposing opinions - it's only natural due to their elements being one-another's opposite and their differing personalities. It's one of the reasons why I adore their platonic (and romantic) relationship - because they have a push and pull connection, harmonic and balanced; neither is afraid of speaking their truth at the cost of hurting the other (unlike a certain canon couple); Aang is Aang in Toph's perspective, not the Avatar, not the child who stopped the one-hundred year war, nor the master airbender. He is just Aang. Her equal. And similarly, Aang sees Toph, not for her disability or her smaller appearance, Toph is Toph. His equal.
Push and pull.
Air and Earth.
Aang and Toph.
I would have loved to see an actually interesting conflict between the two and not this nonsensical garbage. Mostly because this whole debate of The Past vs. The Future is something that came out of nowhere and it's an odd set-up for either of these characters because:
While Aang does have a need to carry out his traditions, culture and, consequentially bring his past into the future, so he can restore and preserve the Air Nomad culture. It never came at the cost of the future - we saw this in Episode "The Northern Air Temple" where he learns to accept that life evolves and we'll have to conform to his history evolving alongside it; The very concept of Yu Dao is reflective of Aang's desire and dream of uniting the four nations, progression and evolution, the future.
Toph, on the other hand, never eluded her rancor towards her past. And, her contrived favor for the future stemmed from her parental issues that were poorly explored and thus, we don't really get a logical nor believable understanding of Toph's stance. It's forced and doesn't suit her nature as well as it ends up harming her growth and character.
Tumblr media
So now Aang remembers their friends?
If this were the first time I consumed any 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' media and 'The Rift' trilogy was my first introduction to their friendship - I would have honestly doubted they were close at all. I mean throughout the three issues what we get from them is: unresolved discord; Aang continuously ignoring her feelings and moody disposition whilst more interested in his Air Acolytes and girlfriend; Aang defending a Rough Rhino that had just tried to slash Toph and scold her for protecting herself; Aang ignoring her very existence when she had just passed out unconscious... etc.
Yah, Bryke, you really nailed their friendship.
If you can't tell that's sarcasm, it is. Because this doesn't come close to touching the deep connection between these two - one built from mutual respect and trust; A bond so strong that Aang guaranteed Toph that it would transcend lifetimes - a prospect that gave Toph a certain relief and comfort. They trusted one another with their lives, fought together and understood each other without speaking a single word. They balanced one another - Aang learnt to become stronger, self-assured and resilient whilst Toph learnt to trust and depend on others. Fate brought them together - Toph was what Aang needed and Aang was what Toph needed.
Aang represented freedom. Toph represented security and strength.
Push and pull.
Air and Earth.
Aang and Toph.
Anyway, things do start to get much better in the final of the trilogy, starting off with these panels:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
FINALLY SOME GOOD CHARACTERIZATION!
IT ONLY TOOK THREE ISSUES BUT WE FINALLY GET SOME DECENT CHARACTERIZATION!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AND AANG PROTECTS TOPH? PUTS HIS OWN MORALS ON THE LINE TO PROTECT HER???
YES!!!!!
A round of applause for Bryke - they failed 90% of their characterization but they outdid themselves with the remaining 10%! It's like what I said earlier - Toph and Aang are capable of putting their squabbles and altercations aside because, at the end of the day, their friendship is far too important to one another. They can fight, scream, shout, lose themselves in battle but when time need be, they always protect one another, they always have each other's back.
Push and pull.
Air and Earth.
Aang and Toph.
Tumblr media
I'll just leave this page here. I want to glue this page into my brain and just think that this was the entire comic - just Taang hugging it out with the sunshine illuminating them, watching over the sea because they are in love and live happily ever after together. That is the plot of 'The Rift' from now on.
Before I end - I would like to briefly touch on Toph and Satoru's relationship and why I genuinely dislike them as potential love interests.
Tumblr media
It starts by the obvious. Their is an inequality in their feelings for one another. On one hand, we can ponder whether Toph grew to view Satoru romantically (though, in this comic it was never eluded to on her end - it was, again, very forcibly introduced with her lying for him but then never mentioned and we never got many romantic coded scenes between). On the other hand, Satoru seems to worship the very ground that Toph walks on - he adores her, confides his past with her and obviously has very intense emotions regarding Toph. It's imbalanced and I just don't see the appeal.
One of the central themes of ATLA is balance and harmony, the push and pull - it's one of the reasons why Zutara (and Taang) would have been narratively more cohesive with the themes present in the show than the canon couples (with the exception of Sukka), because both these ships have an unspoken equilibrium and respect that isn't present in the aforementioned canon couples.
Another note is, I don't really understand the point of Satoru's character in this comic. He really didn't have that much to work it and his personality lacked nuances, humanity. It was very animated and boring. He didn't play off of Toph's playfulness, their dialogue was odd (cringey at times), they had no chemistry, it was very one-sided with Satoru confiding his past and hardships whilst he never once got any fragility from Toph.
It also felt as though they shoe-horned him into the comic just so people would get off their backs about Lin and Suyin's biological father - with Kanto being the confirmed father to Lin, they potentially wanted to introduce Satoru so we, as the fans, could speculate that Suyin's was his daughter. It's just a thought - but it is interesting that they made Satoru share similar physical traits with Suyin (such as: hair texture and skin tone).
And thus, I conclude the analysis of 'The Rift' what an infuriating journey this one was. I hope you enjoyed, the next comic I'll dissect will possibly be 'North and South' as Toph does play a big role in that comic (and I remember also not being too overjoyed with her characterization there).
Until next time, take care and please let me know what you thought of this analysis!!

You talked a little in your post about how you became anti-zionist about the israeli left's aversion to religion, and I've noticed it aswell but could never fully manage to connect these dots. Do you mind sharing a bit more about it?
let me preface this by saying everything i say here is based on my own experience and observations. what i'm going to say here will be oversimplified and i apologize for that, however i am in no headspace to get into the full nuance of this right now and i do want to talk about this.
so the influence orthodox judaism has on israeli politics is a major, major topic that i am going to address a few aspects of here. the first one (which is the least interesting one to me) is the idf. military service in israel is mandatory for every citizen over 18, but haredim are exempt from it. quoting wikipedia here (sorry), "haredi jews maintain that the practice of studying the torah (or reciting) [...] is crucial in defending the israeli people from threats, similar to an additional 'praying division' of the military". to non-religious zionist jews, this is seen as a betrayal. this, combined with laws that allow yeshiva students to live on government allowances rather than working, makes a lot of israelis feel like they're being taken advantage of by the haredim. it's not uncommon to hear people say haredim are "living off of" them.
another aspect of this, which genuinely causes me (and a lot of other people, obviously) pain, is the way jewish law is incorporated into israeli law. you may have heard last year about how abortion is allowed in judaism under certain conditions; this is true, but if i wanted to get an abortion i would have to go in front of a committee to determine whether i meet these conditions. orthodox judaism doesn't allow driving on shabbat, so there is no public transportation on shabbat in israel (shabbat being friday afternoon - saturday evening). if i want to get on a train or a bus on a weekend, i can't. a christian or a muslim living in israel can't either. there is no legal way to get married as a jew in israel without involving the rabbinate, which means that gay marriage is illegal, interfaith marriage is illegal, and so forth (if your last name is cohen, you're not legally allowed to marry a divorced woman, for instance). and worse, if you are jewish and considered married in israel (even if you didn't get married in israel), you can only get divorced through the rabbinate. which means the woman has pretty much no say in this, and there is a phenomenon in israel of women who are married against their will (i recommend watching gett: the trial of viviane amsalem, because it's informative but mostly because it's an incredible film).
these are just a few examples of this. to summarize, the influences jewish law has on israeli law are prevalent as it is, and a lot of the current israeli leadership is seeking to make them even more so. and this reality is very scary to a lot of israeli citizens, jewish or not, myself included.
now, here is where it gets unpleasant. the israeli left is mostly hiloni, non-religious, and heavily opposes all of this. for good reason! but what i have noticed, is that it creates a general aversion within the left to judaism in particular and religion as a whole. it creates a hostility. my relationship with judaism is incredibly complicated, and most of it stems from the fact that i live here. i have friends who feel a genuine disdain for judaism, because of the way it's manifested in israel. and there's a very real fear that one day soon we will become the minority, and find ourselves in an ultra-jewish theocracy. it scares me, genuinely, as a woman and as a part of the queer community. it scares a lot of people.
and this is where it ties to the left's fear of a one secular state solution and the right of return. this very real fear of living in a jewish theocracy, manifests itself in the much less realistic fear of living in a muslim theocracy. i always get to this point when talking to my parents. they ask me if i actually believe that this won't happen if jews are no longer the majority here. and an argument that is always present in conversations about the fear of secular jews becoming the minority is that "they (haredim and other religious jewish groups) reproduce a lot faster than us". sounds awful, doesn't it? but statistically speaking, the more religious you are, the more children you have. and they use this same argument when talking about palestinians.
israelis talk about palestinians as if they're all hyper-religious muslims. we've seen this recently, in israel's attempts at pinkwahing. and they teach us about islam in school, with every islamophobic stereotype you can think of. they showed us "not without my daughter" in arabic class. so islamophobia is rampant in israel, obviously. and what i have noticed with the israeli left, is that even the most progressives of them are still terrified of the prospect of becoming a religious minority, because it's a fear they deal with daily in the face of the current israeli government. that is not to say they're not also islamophobic, many (most) of them are. but personally i think it's fascinating to see how this ties into how oppressed they feel by a religion that they're a part of. how scared they are of religion as a concept. how very concrete fears of where this country is currently headed tie into fears of where a hypothetical multi-ethnic secular state would go.
again, this in no way encapsulates the full situation or even just this issue. it's just something i've been thinking about a lot lately.

the white cat pt. 1
Tumblr media
The first date had gone perfectly. Bucky had shown up at the animal shelter right on time, and you had changed in the bathroom to a more date-appropriate outfit. A Japanese steakhouse, a bottle of champagne, and a walk home later, you’d both been eager to schedule another. And three more.
So now, you’re sitting in a back corner of a café (date number five, for those keeping track at home), trying to not stare too hard at the man in front of you.
“Coffee is so much better, holy shit,” he mumbles. You’d recommended a caramel frappuccino, though you’re now mildly convinced he may run off to date it.
“Yeah?” you laugh. “I bet a lot of things are better now.”
Bucky nods, watching the way the corners of your eyes crinkle when you chuckle. He likes that you don’t avoid the topic of his past. Contrary to popular belief, not every moment of his early life was horrible.
Just most of it. Like, seventy years out of one hundred. 70%. Could be worse.
He pulls himself back into reality. “Temperature control? Best thing that’s ever been invented.”
“Oh, really? I’d say modern electronics-“ You gesture around, where students are typing away on laptops and groups of friends are showing each other pictures. “-but I could be biased.”
“Don’t shit talk the flip phone! It works well enough for me.”
“Oh, no. No shit talking here.”
When both of you finish your drinks, you walk Bucky back to his apartment, even though he definitely doesn’t need any extra protection. You enjoy the trek up the stairs you’d normally loathe, and reaching his door makes a weight sink in your chest. He opens it a crack.
Before you can even say goodbye, a white blur races out, ramming into your leg and making you stumble.
Right into Bucky.
“Shit, sorry!”
“She normally isn’t like this-“
The two of you speak at the same time before your eyes lock, breathing syncing as your thoughts both race and stop entirely.
His thoughts race. ‘Is five dates enough to kiss? Probably, right? But it was different then- this isn’t back then, dumbass! Okay, but what do I do? God, she’s pretty this close. Do I lean in? I should lean in, I’m taller than her. Curse you and bless you, Alpine, I’ll get you some Fancy Feast after this-‘
And you only have one thought.
‘Fuck it.’
Pulling him in, your last and only thought leaves the moment your lips touch. His hands hesitantly settle on your back and waist, relaxing when you sigh.
The troublemaker responsible nudges you again, albeit much gentler, purring up at you.
“Hey, Alpine,” you greet, scooping her up. She stretches out and turns limp in your arms. Shit-eating brat. You love her, though. “So, um…” You trail off, but the silence isn’t doesn’t linger for long.
Bucky opens the door fully, nodding inside.
“Would you wanna come in for a bit? Not that you have to, but-“ The way he grins and darts his tongue out across his lips is more convincing than you need. “-your call.”
White ball of fluff in your arms, you agree wholeheartedly.
“How about a movie?” you ask, stepping inside.
Bucky shrugs as you let Alpine down. “I’ve got a list of some Sam told me to watch.” The cat runs to the couch like she knows you’ll end up there.
“We can start there.”
