Sleepy Movie Nights
Flufftober Day 7: Movie Marathon
🗯️ IRONHUSBAND BINGO ROUND 4 - Movie Night
masterlist
(Ao3 Link)
PAIRING(S): Tony Stark/James 'Rhodey' Rhodes
RATING: General
WARNING(S): Platonic cuddling, chasing, running
flufftober | ihb 🗯️ round 4
Movie night gets sprung upon Rhodey and then he remembers he’s supposed to be a parent. Tony is interrupted by all this and Pepper is glaring at him.
Tumblr media
Peter: Are we still on for movie night tonight?
Rhodey: Movie Night?
Harley: We’re replacing lab day with a movie night?
Peter: Mr Stark told me about it on Tuesday
Peter: I think? He said we could do a marathon fo movies!
Rhodey: Tones is currently in a meeting
Harley: Tony? In a meeting? I think you have the wrong guy
Rhodey: Ha ha ha
Rhodey: Do you guys need picking up after school?
Peter: Yes, please!
Harley: If you can
Rhodey: I’ll see you both outside the school at 3
Putting his phone down Rhodey sighs at what he knows his husband has organised. Tony isn’t always the best at communication but movie nights aren’t rare either it was something regular that the team used to do when they would all be at the tower. Now that there are a lot fewer of them movie nights are few and far between and so it makes Rhodey excited that they could share it with their pseudo sons.
Little feet remind him that despite his two sons being at school he does have one more that’s not. “Morgan, what are you doing?” He yells out towards the hallway as the small girl only seems to be running further away. Laughing he chases after her much quicker than the 4-year-old, “I thought you were taking a nap missy!” He mumbles ruffling her hair and sticking her into one place.
Morgan scrunches up her face at being caught, “I had energy!” She yells trying to get out of her dads hands. Feet running at a million miles an hour, “I need to move!” Punching her little fists into her dad's chest, Rhodey is glad that he was an airforce pilot because he’s fairly sure he would have tumbled if it weren’t for his tough training.
His time also taught him how to compromise in particular tough situations, “Peter and Harley are coming for movie night tonight, you don’t want to fall asleep during movie night do you?” Morgan’s face goes into shock at the mention of her brothers with excitement she giggles. Rhodey places a finger over her mouth, muffling the giggles, “let’s go take a nap with dad now so we can stay up super late tonight,” by super late Rhodey means 7 pm but Morgan doesn’t need to know that.
Carrying Morgan to the couch Rhodey covers her with a warm blanket and multiple of her Teddy bears, “night daddy,” Morgan muffles scrunching up into a tight ball.
“Night baby girl,” Rhodey smiles sitting on the couch with her and before he knows it his own eyelids drop and he realises that he’s incredibly tired. Parenting is difficult.
.
Sitting in on the meeting Tony can feel his own eyelids dropping at the number swarming through his head, this meeting has gone on for way too long and somebody keeps extending it. The spider-man ringtone starts blasting through the meeting from Tony’s phone and Pepper is glaring at him, “sorry,” Tony mumbles an apology stepping out of the room.
Taking the phone call from Peter he sighs, “Pete are you okay? Do you need something?” He can hear muffles on the other side of the phone from Harley and it’s only confusing Tony more. “Peter I need some help here Pepper is glaring at me from walking out of the meeting.” Tony smiles sheepishly back at Pepper through the glass pointing at the phone and creating a spider with his hands.
Peter after muffling talking to Harley speak into the speaker, “Rhodye was supposed to pick us up for movie night tonight but he’s not here. Can you come to pick us up or do you want us to take the subway?” Peter suggests wincing at the small swear that Tony says through the phone.
Typing quickly Tony shoots off a text to Pepper getting a thumbs up through the glass as he watches Pepper read his conflict of interest, “yeah Pete I'm coming to pick you both up, we might have to reschedule movie night though, I’m not sure what’s up with Rhodey.” From the sense of Tony’s voice, Peter knows he’s worried and so he hands the phone to Hsrley instead, his hands shaking.
Harley taking the phone sighs in relief, “thanks Tony, see you soon.” The phone hangs up and Tony rushes to the car park downstairs worried not only for his 2 sons but for his partner as well.
.
After picking up the 2 boys Tony rushes home, leaving the boys in the dust as he continues to rush into the penthouse, clearly worried. He stops in his steps, Peter and Harley hitting his back, “shhh,” he whispers a smile on his face as he watches his husband and daughter curled up on the couch together.
Peeking over Tony’s shoulder Peter has a similar smile, “maybe we can move movie night to the cinema room instead,” he says with a slight laugh to his tone.
Tony turns around to them both putting his arms around their shoulder, “sounds like a great idea, we can let them sleep.” The three of them leave Rhodey and Morgan to sleep having their own movie marathon instead.

tony, loudly clearing his throat and shaking out a VERY long sheet of paper: my dearest rhodes
rhodey, glancing up: yes?
tony, assuming a strong stance like he’s about to serenade him: my dearest platypus, words cannot express my adoration for you, nor my dedication to your side. nay, but I shall attempt anyways. your hair is silky like a really nice pillow, your eyes as deep as a river. your nose was drawn by the gods, and your mouth was painted with a rose.

The Raft.
That’s where they sent you after they arrested you in Germany. The fucking Raft.
You haven’t even seen Wanda since you were handed your very unstylish new clothes and they made you change.
You got separated from her when they took you to your cell between Scott's and Sam's. You dread what they're going to do to her, but you're powerless to stop them.
You sit on the ground of your cell and don’t move from there, barely registering what happens around you until the sound of clapping snaps you out of your trance.
“The Futurist, gentlemen!” Clint shouts but you still don’t move, just listening to the scene. “The Futurist is here! He sees all! He knows what's best for you, whether you like it or not.”
“Give me a break, Barton.” You hear Tony say and almost show some emotion, but stop yourself. “I had no idea they'd put you here. Come on.”
You hear Clint spit and then say “Yeah, well, you knew they'd put us somewhere, Tony.”
“Yeah, but not some super-max floating ocean pokey. You know, this place is for maniacs. This is a place for…”
“Criminals?” Clint interrupts him. “Criminals, Tony. Think that's the word you're looking for. Right? That didn't used to mean me. Or Sam, or Y/N, or Wanda. But here we are.”
“Because you broke the law.” Tony says.
“Yeah.” Clint says back and starts chanting “La la la la la” while Tony talks, making you grin slightly.
“I didn't make you. You read it, you broke it.” Tony keeps talking. “Alright, you're all grown up, you got a wife and kids. I don't understand, why didn't you think about them before you chose the wrong side.” he says and your face falls again immediately, knowing Tony went too far.
“You gotta watch your back with this guy.” Clint says before slamming his hands on the bars angrily. “There's a chance he's gonna break it!”
“Hank Pym always said, you never can trust a Stark.” You hear Scott say from the cell on your right.
“Who are you?” Tony says, his voice closer to you than before, and you can hear Scott mumbling “Come on, man.”
Tony gets to your cell and sees you sitting on the ground, hugging your knees tight to your chest, your head resting back on the wall while you look straight ahead.
Tony is nothing short of shocked when he sees your face all beat up and bruised, your arm bandaged with blood seeping through it showing just how big and deep the cut is, all courtesy of Ayo.
“I never wanted to see you like this...” Tony says softly but you don’t even react to his words.
He’s standing in front of you but it’s like he’s not even there, like you’re looking right through him to something more interesting behind him.
Tony sighs and shakes his head before moving to Sam’s cell.
“How's Rhodes?” Sam asks right away.
“They're flying him to Columbia Medical tomorrow. So… fingers cross.” Tony answers and you close your eyes, grateful that he’s still alive at least. “What do you need? They feed you yet?”
“You're the good cop now?” Sam asks almost in disbelief.
“I'm just the guy who needs to know where Steve went.” Tony answers calmly.
“Well, you better go get a bad cop, because you're gonna have to go Mark Fuhrman on my ass to get information out of me.”
“Oh, I just knocked the 'A' out of their 'AV'.” Tony says, much too playfully for your taste. “We got about 30 seconds before they realize it's not their equipment.”
You furrow your eyebrows at his next sentence. “Just look. Because that is the fellow who was supposed to interrogate Barnes. Clearly, I made a mistake. Sam, I was wrong.”
Your eyes snap open at his apology and, even though you can’t see either of them, you know Sam’s feeling the same way as you, which is confirmed by his next sentence. “That's a first.”
“Cap is definitely off the reservation but he's about to need all the help he can get. We don't know each other very well. You don't have to-”
“Hey, it's alright.” Sam interrupts him, then you hear him sigh and after a little pause he says “Look, I'll tell you… but you have to go alone and as a friend.”
“Easy.” Tony says and Sam proceeds to tell him all about the Hydra base in Siberia and the other supersoldiers.
When Tony leaves, Sam once again tries to make sure you’re okay even if he hasn’t had luck at getting an answer out of you since you got here.
He knocks twice on the wall between you two then pauses and then knocks three more times fast before talking, a thing you two started doing since you both moved into the Avengers Compound so you would know it was the other knocking right away. “Are you okay?”
You don’t answer him and can hear him sighing before continuing talking.
“Look, I’m sorry you got caught up in this and-”
“I don’t regret the choice I made, Sam.” You interrupt him before he can finish his sentence, speaking up for the first time since you got arrested at the airport. “As much as this sucks, it was the right thing to do. I know it was.”
You don’t say anything else. Sam can tell you mean it and he knows better than to push you.
“They’ll be okay.” He says after a moment of silence and then lets you be.
You know he means Steve, Bucky and Tony but you can’t help but think he’s trying to reassure you that Bucky’s gonna be fine.
And you can only hope that he’s right.
-
A couple of weeks after Tony’s visit there’s a commotion in the prison.
You haven’t so much as made a sound since that day, aside from your daily knock on the wall between you and Sam so he can make sure you’re okay, knowing you well enough to know you don’t want to talk but still wanting to check in.
But you can’t help but let out a loud gasp when you see Steve just standing in front of your cells.
You look around when the cell doors open and you hesitantly get up from the floor and walk towards Steve. He hugs Sam, then you, then Clint and then pats Scott on the back, but doesn’t linger long before he’s guiding you towards another level where Wanda is.
You get to her just as the door to her cell opens and you rush inside with Clint to take off her collar while he takes off her straightjacket. You hug her tightly and wrap your arm around her with Clint to help her move you since she looks a little worse for wear.
You manage to move through the prison without problems. You have to hand it to Steve, he’s a hell of a criminal.
When you get to the landing pad you see the Quinjet ready for take off and you all rush inside just to see Bucky at the commands and you smile brightly at the sight.
You have no time to comment, though, as Sam shouts “What are you waiting for?! Go!”
Bucky rolls his eyes but calmly says “We have one more coming.”
You frown. One more? You turn to Steve confusedly but before you can ask anything you can see blond hair darting into the Quinjet and then Natasha’s there.
Bucky instantly takes off and you all take seats and buckle up.
There’s a moment of silence while everyone processes what just happened, but you break it while looking at Natasha that’s sitting directly in front of you.
“Are we gonna talk about the hair?” You ask arching your eyebrow with a smirk.
She groans in annoyance and you can hear the others chuckling while she says “We are not.”
-
After a few hours you all get to a safehouse and Steve ushers you in before showing you around.
It’s not bad: a secluded cabin with three bedrooms, not too big but Steve assured you you wouldn’t be staying there long anyway. Which makes sense, you're on the run now so this is just temporary.
After the tour Bucky approaches you in the living room and only then you notice he’s missing his metal arm.
“You flew the jet with only one arm? That’s impressive…” You can’t help yourself as you reach to touch his left shoulder, your eyes fixated on it. But stop on your tracks when you feel his right hand carefully cupping your cheek.
Your eyes snap up to his and you can see him thoroughly inspecting the wounds in your face that are still healing a little. He grimaces when he looks down at your bandaged arm and whispers “I’m sorry…”
“It’s nothing I can’t handle, Sergeant.” You smile softly at him and put your hand over his still on your cheek, trying to reassure him that you’re fine.
“I bet you can, doll.” He chuckles.
You’re too busy staring at each other to notice everyone’s attention is on you until Steve clears his throat with an apologetic look on his face.
“We need to go, Buck.” He says and you look confusedly between the two men.
“I’m going back into cryo.” Bucky clarifies for you.
“Oh.” Is all you can say and your eyes widen for a second before you force yourself to put on a more neutral face.
“It’s okay.” He smiles at you, but you feel like he’s trying to convince himself as much as you. “It’s nothing I can’t handle, doll.”
You try your best to smile and not look too bummed out. “I bet you can, Sergeant.”
You hesitate for a moment before surprising him, the others and even yourself by giving him a hug. He hesitates too before delicately hugging you back and, after a moment, you pull away.
He smiles at you with a faint blush and you smile back, watching him walk to the door.
Steve passes you on his way to the door and kisses your forehead, whispering “He’ll be okay” before saying goodbye to the rest of the team, assuring you that he’ll be back soon. Then he also goes through the door and soon both the supersoldiers are gone.
You turn around with a sigh and see Sam, Natasha and Clint standing there, grinning at you, Wanda and Scott looking more compassionate than teasing.
You narrow your eyes at the first three and say sternly “Not. A. Word.” punctuating every word by pointing threateningly at each of them.
They raise their hands in mock surrender while snickering but thankfully don’t say anything and everyone just scatters around the safehouse.
You see the Quinjet depart from the window and try your best to look at the bright side: This isn’t forever, you’ll see him again.
Right?

Warnings: 18+ angst but a little hurt comfort as well. Tony’s kind of an asshole in this one, the relationship isn’t exactly healthy.

Tony Stark Masterlist
.
He was late.
Again.
Tony had missed dinner for the fifth time in a row now, not that you were counting. It had been over fifteen hours since you last saw the man, not that you were counting. And it had been over two weeks since you had had sex with him, but not that you were counting.
Tony Stark - the man, the myth, the legend. Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist. The best if not most popular Avenger in the entire world. A man with more enemies than friends. Also, your fiance. But you were unsure about the last bit.
He had proposed six months ago in a room full of disquisitive journalists that went ballistic at the announcement. A glittery rock that easily cost more than your apartment sat on your finger, for the world to see you were his.
Of course, that didn’t stop dumb, heavy-chested women to throw themselves at him at social events. You were privy to it all, because you had faith in him that he didn’t have eyes for anybody else. At least you knew that in the past. Now though, you weren’t so sure. It had become somewhat of a ritual for the two of you to enter a party hand in hand and go your separate ways.
He would be the center of attention, obviously, enjoying every bit of the adulation he got while you would find a deserted corner for yourself and your beloved glass of wine. By the time the night ended, or rather morning, Tony would be drunk off his ass or passed out with a random blonde drooling nearby. You would have Happy Hogan to help get him home, where he’d disappear in his lab once he regained consciousness.
Never in your life did you think you’d be jealous of a goddamn laboratory. The room who got to see Tony every single day, for the longest time, sometimes for days on end. His safe space that you once thought you were.
You did everything in your might to be there for him, it took effort and sacrifices on your part, but Tony was worth it all. He had managed to crawl his way into your heart and carve a space meant just for him, with no room for a third. You loved him with every last cell in your body, you did. You just wish he could see that, and even if he could see it, you wished he could care enough to let you know your efforts weren’t fruitless.
Yet another expensive bottle of wine sat in the ice bucket, the food you’d ordered from his favorite restaurant now cold, the velvety red dress you’d purchased just for him now hung on your frame unappreciated. Your mood plummeted with every glass of wine you finished, watching the hours tick by.
“FRIDAY, where is he?” you sighed, asking the AI who’d become your informant and best friend, as sad as that was.
In the lab, Miss. Do you want me to remind him again?
Her crisp voice sounded through the walls, almost sympathetic to your state.
“No. Don’t bother him. Wouldn’t make much of a difference anyway.” you murmured, swallowing the last bit of disappointment before getting up and heading to your room.
In the shower, you had let the tears flow and mix with the water that cascaded down your body, mind exhausted from the constant heartbreak. You knew that the only thing waiting for you outside that door was the giant, empty bed that had the last traces of Tony on them.
.
You had woken up with a stinging headache the next day, a futile glance to your left let you know Tony hadn’t made it to bed last night. It wasn’t uncommon. The occurrence had just multiplied over the last few months.
If you were keeping track, and you were, it had been over two days since Tony had slept, FRIDAY corroborated your suspicions as well.
You got dressed and headed downstairs to his lab, a blast of cold air sent chills down your spine as you entered.
There he was.
Surrounded by screens emitting a glowing blue light, mouth mumbling something incoherent to your non-science based mind, fingers trembling as he moved about the space, drawing your attention to the numerous empty cups of coffee that lay strewn. His eyes weren’t focusing on his task at hand, his stats reflected in red, flashing before you and letting you know his heart rate was way over normal.
“Tony.” you called softly, waiting for him to turn around and see you. You repeated yourself when he did not, placing a hand on his back only for him to jump and be startled at the touch.
“Hey! It’s only me.”
He seemed to relax instantly once he saw you, you however grew worried at his appearance. Eyes that looked beyond tired, bags under them concerning, his whole body language screamed exhaustion.
“FRIDAY, shut this thing off.” you mumbled, taking Tony by his hand to the couch that sat near the wall to your right. You were glad he didn’t protest, and borderline worried if he had the energy left to do so.
He didn’t.
You handed him water, watching him flinch at first probably realizing it wasn’t coffee before finishing it in one go. He grabbed your wrist before you could turn around again, looking up at you desperately, his brown orbs yelling a silent cry of help.
What broke your heart is that it wasn’t the first time this had happened.
“Tony, you have to eat something.”
“No.”
He pulled you down next to him, planting his head in your lap while his arms wound around your middle, hugging you like his life depended on it, which it was. His breathing evened out as sleep finally took over almost instantly. You sighed, leaning back against the plush sofa, your fingers found their way in Tony’s hair, carding through them while your eyes brimmed with tears.
“I’d like to not die of this cold, FRI.” you closed your eyes, letting a few stray tears escape as everything around you returned to homeostasis, even if internally things were radically different.
.
“When was the last time you had a good night’s sleep, Y/N?”
Rhodey’s voice pulled your attention away from the paintings you were sifting through. A major chunk of Tony Stark’s fan following were kids, who sent him drawings of Iron Man swooping in to save the day. They always put a smile on your face, watching their faces light up with joy every time he waved at them, signed their drawings, picked one of the kids up for a pose.
“I’m pretty sure that question was meant for that crazy genius of a man signing autographs over there.”
You pointed to Tony at the far end of the restaurant you were at, clicking pictures with a bunch of teenagers who were gushing over him, signing their posters and entertaining them with his stories.
“And to answer your question, it’s been the same amount of time since he had a good night’s sleep.” you sighed, leaning back against your chair, sipping on your drink, avoiding Rhodey’s eyes.
It worried him greatly watching his two friends struggle, watching their health deteriorate in front of his eyes was heartbreaking.
“Do you want me to talk to him?”
“By all means, knock yourself out, Rhodes.” You chuckled, knowing fully well how that interaction was gonna go. You had been there and done that. It was falling on deaf ears.
There was a commotion which caught your eye. Tony Stark stumbled out of the restaurant clutching a hand over his heart.
Panic set in as you both followed him out, pushing people out of the way as they gathered with their phones out, capturing every moment.
You saw him step into his suit, the metal closing in around the man like a second skin before he knelt on the road in distress.
“Check the heart, Jarvis. Is it—is it the brain?” Tony took in a deep breath, trying everything in his might to find the source of his current state.
No sign of cardiac anomaly or unusual brain activity, Sir.
Jarvis spoke in his crystal clear voice, the suit display showing him stats that everything was normal.
“Okay, was I poisoned then?”
My diagnosis is that you’ve experienced a severe anxiety attack.
Tony’s eyes went wide in realization, he couldn’t believe it. His heart hammered against his ribcage, his breath still labored but he was okay. It was just an anxiety attack. It could be handled.
The chatter of people around bothered him and before you or Rhodey could utter a word, he took off, zooming off into the sky, homebound.
Rhodey wrapped an arm around your shoulders, giving you a reassuring squeeze as you closed your eyes and sighed.
“That idiot needs an intervention and damn it, he’s gonna get one. Don’t worry, Y/N, we’ll bring him back.”
.
Rhodey wasted no time in storming into his lab, catching the Avenger sitting still in the Ford Model B who looked mildly irked when his music was turned off.
“I’ve got to change the combination of the doors.” He muttered.
“Yeah, you probably should so nobody would find you dead in this lab.” Rhodey glared at the man who was avoiding his eyes, fiddling around with a screwdriver, his fingers trembling.
“Seriously Tony, what have you done to yourself?” He asked, his voice softer this time.
Tony’s eyes had sunken since the last time he saw him, his face distraught. All signs of PTSD visible in his demeanor.
“You need to accept the fact that you’re not okay, Tony. You need help. And sleep. And food—”
“And Y/N.”
Rhodey stopped mid-sentence at his admission, giving his shoulder a squeeze as Tony’s brown eyes glistened, finally looking up at his oldest friend.
“Oh I’m glad you still remember her.”
“She’ll save me. She always has.” Tony murmured mostly to himself, leaning back against the car seat.
“She’ll save you alright. But what about her? What about the relationship? There won’t be a relationship to save if you keep this up, Stark. That woman has done more for you than you could possibly imagine. You’re killing yourself and you’re taking her with you.”
Tony’s heart dropped to his stomach at Rhodey’s words. He was right.
You were there for the man since the world got to know he was Iron Man. After Obadiah Stane almost killed him, after Ivan Vanko, after he fell through the wormhole. It was you who kept him alive somehow. You had been there for him.
Always.
He, on the other hand, had always taken advantage of that. He had been a terrible boyfriend and a fiance, hell, he had been an awful human being these past few months.
It was almost surprising that you hadn’t left him yet. However, by the way your appearances in his lab had seemingly reduced, he was sure you were close to giving up. He wouldn’t blame you if you did. You didn’t deserve this treatment.
You deserved better.

Stripper
Y/N: Hey mom! Hey dad! Momo, Spidey boy. Have a good day, you guys.
Pepper: We already did that.
Tony: It's 3:30...
Morgan: How are you just waking up?
Y/N: I set my alarm for noon. I must've slept through it. I was working late promoting a new club. Oh, by the way, here is the insurance money.
*hands Pepper a wad of cash all in $1 bills*
Pepper: Thank you...
Peter: A lot of singles in there.
Happy: What exactly do you do at this club?
Y/N *sarcastic*: Oh, right. 'Cause I'm a stripper, Happy. Hehe...
*silence*
Y/N: OH MY GOD! Do you really think I'm a stripper?!
*Pepper drops the wad of cash*
Everybody: No.....
Rhodey: Yes!!

Tumblr media
Lila Rhodes did not expect to be in this lecture hall, she doesn’t even go to this school, so she really shouldn’t be a witness to one of the largest news stories in MIT history. The largest may be an exaggeration she’s making seeing as the news story includes her brother.
‘Tony Stark is dating famous MIT professor James Rhodes known for being the first receiver of the Stark Industries Grant’.
She had known James was dating somebody and that the in the 3 years of teaching at MIT, his alma mater because suddenly he was asking his family to call him Rhodey something this his ‘partner’ had apparently come up with. There had been plenty of stories about the man over the dinner table during holiday events, but her brother had never given any explicit details, never enough details to realise that his partner was in fact Tony Stark.
Honestly, she should have put it together much earlier than being questioned by the MIT newspaper. “I’m sorry he’s what?” She spluttered after being asked what she thought about Professor Rhodes dating CEO, billionaire, and MITs largest donor, Tony Stark. It was such a weird response that the interviewer tilted her head and responded by saying “you didn’t know,” and Lila hadn’t.
So now she’s in a lecture hall at a school that she doesn’t go to wondering when this relationship even happened, over pizza, expensive Italian dinners James would talk about, lots of whisky and wine apparently, because that was all she could put it down to.
Tony Stark is sitting at the front of the lecture hall sitting on James’ desk as if he owned the place (and he kind of did, this specific lecture hall is one that he sponsored, another clue to their blooming relationship that Lila should have realised sooner). He’s looking directly at Lila and she realises it when he asks, “does anybody have any questions?” Not moving his eyes away from his boyfriend's sister.
Lila has many questions but none appropriate enough to be said in a lecture hall full of nosey MIT students so she’s grateful when somebody else raises their hand to her left and Tony’s direction changes. He points at the kid and taking a big breath the boy stands and asks the one thing everybody is thinking “did you award Mr Rhodes with the Stark Industries Grant because you were dating?” The previous bustling room has now gone quiet.
It’s an important question to ask, it just feels like it should be a news agency that should be asking rather than a teenage boy with too much confidence. As he sits down Lila wonders if he actually isn’t as confident as she previously thought because he can’t make eye contact with anybody.
Stark isn’t anyway near as put off as James is (yes Lila has gone back to referring to him as Stark because if he can change her brother’s name then she can change his) he seems calm. These are questions he has been answering since he was 5, the man is prepared with years of media training, but James is not so much. Theirs this smile that is charming but Lila can tell it’s fake “it’s actually the other way round, I mean how can you not fall in love with that mind,” Tony teases like a valley girl. He laughs and rolls his eyes as people put their hands up, “that was a rhetorical question, he’s mine,” Stark says grabbing Rhodey’s shoulder and leaning onto it, hands are quick to drop.
Any questions anybody had now seem minuscule to what was just asked the room is silent, and not a single whisper of gossip is relayed.
They’re only here because Tony Stark is over the top and decided that a press conference was too formal for the new relationship and so instead he just broke into a lecture hall and started asking, disrupting the whole class. Much to Lila’s surprise James doesn’t seem phased, he’s a little freaked out as shown by the small wrinkles at the corner of his mouth but other than that he has love in his eyes as Stark antagonises the class to ask theme questions.
He also uses the word them, as in partnership, together and this makes Lila feels make better about the whole relationship. Not that she isn't happy for James, she is incredibly happy about them both because she realises that their relationship is perfectly pure from the way that Stark smiles at Rhodey wide, different to the way that he smiles at the classroom.
Before she knows Lila is the only person left in the lecture theatre and everybody else has slowly threaded out with James wrapping up the class. She’s left there slow clapping at a couple of idiots.
James looks up at her with a disappointed look, “what are you doing here?” It’s less shocking than what she was hoping for but after days of the media gossiping about your relationship after one photo where you sit a little too close she understands that things are a little less shocking now.
She skips down the stairs leading down to James’ desk, “mum said to come to visit, said you would give me a tour of the school but apparently I came at the wrong time,” Lila gives a pointed look to Stark, raising an eyebrow “did you know that MIT has its own printed newspaper, their very annoying.” She watches James groan knowing that his sister had not told him she was coming and neither had their mother.
It’s fine though because he loves her, at least most of the time, “we’re going out to dinner,” Rhodey rejoices with the day despite the fact that he has a class next lesson. Pulling Tony and Lila individually he’s happy to leave this lecture room, “you’re treating me for putting me in this mess,” he accuses Tony as they walk “and you are going to stay quiet all dinner for pulling this get out of home stunt,” he frowns at Lila.
Laughing she follows along quickly with her brother and his boyfriend, “you know I’m not very good at being a background character,” it makes Tony laugh and Lila is fairly sure she has won… uh… something.

Let's Talk About That Chapter 4
Warnings: talks of mental health (PTSD, anxiety, panic attacks), mentions of death/dying, anger issues, angst and fluff
Word count: 1,969
A/N: listen I love rewatching Marvel movies but having to watch civil war and pause every 5 seconds for the accords scenes killed me, but it would have bothered me if the lines weren't accurate so here you go.

May 19th 2016
You were in your office when Natasha came round telling you that you had to go to the meeting room. The secretary of state was here to talk with the Avengers. You knew this couldn't be good, but you got up with your laptop in hand just in case you needed it.
All of you sat around the meeting room while Secretary Ross spoke, "The world owes the Avengers an unpayable debt. You have fought for us, protected us, risked your lives, but while a great many people see you as heroes there are some who would prefer the word 'Vigilantes'." Your grip on Wanda's thigh tightens and her hand goes over yours. Trying not to cause a scene, but you must have squeezed a little too tightly. You release it completely, balling and unballing your fist.
"And what word would you use, Mr. Secretary?" Natasha asks.
"How about dangerous?" He replies. "What would you call a group of U.S. based enhanced individuals who routinely ignore sovereign borders and inflict their will wherever they choose and who frankly seem unconcerned with what they leave behind." Ross speaks freely, but you interject.
"Excuse me Sir, but if you'd have gone over my notes thoroughly about everyone's after mission session when things go good and when things go not great there is in fact a difference in their psyches. This team though we are enhanced individuals still have emotions and feelings. We still care about others and it's the exact reason we do what we do. Just because the world doesn't see them break down. I do." You stand up. "Tony has severe anxiety and suffers from panic attacks when things go wrong. Steve and Natasha have PTSD. Wanda," you look at her and she nods, " thinks every goddamn day about how she could have done better in Lagos. If she had been able to hold on a second longer than no one would have gotten hurt that day. Those lives every one of them rests on her mind." You tell him though he doesn't seem to care much as he shows a video, you sit back down, moving closer to Wanda and she holds your hand, your fingers intertwining.
"New York, Washington D.C." He's showing the group's past failures as you look over at Steve and Natasha, watching their faces pale as both try to stay in the moment. "Sokovia." The battle for Sokovia from Ultron, the one you missed. You feel her hand squeeze yours as you move your other hand to her thigh to try and soothe her, "Lagos." The footage starts playing of the building that got caught in the blast Wanda had tried to contain. The close up of a dead girl in the ruble is shown and you can feel her shift as you pull her against your chest and whisper,
"Don't look. I've got you."
"Alright that's enough." Steve calls out. I mouth a thank you to him as I let Wanda go once the footage stops.
"Good to know we'll need a group therapy session after this." You say flatly. As you turn back to the front of the room.
"For the past four years you've operated with unlimited power and no supervision. That's an arrangement the governments of the world can no longer tolerate, but I think we have a solution." He hands over a binder to you.
"The Sokovia Accords?" You ask, thumbing through it with Wanda.
"Approved by 117 Countries. It states that the Avengers shall no longer be a private organization. Instead you'll operate under the supervision of the United Nations panel. Only when and if that panel deems it necessary." Ross informs you all.
"The Avengers were formed to make the world a safer place. I feel we've done that." Steve interjects.
"Tell me Captain, do you know where Thor and Banner are right now? If I misplaced a couple of mega 30 ton nukes you can bet there would be consequences. Compromise, reassurance, that's how the world works. Believe me, this is the middle ground." Ross states.
"So," Rhodey starts. "There are contingencies?"
"Three days from now the U.N. meets in Vienna to ratify the accords." Ross tells us and you see Steve finally acknowledge Tony sitting in the corner away from the rest of us. "Talk it over."
"And if we come to a decision you don't like?" Natasha asks. Ross stops his exit from the room.
"Then you retire." Ross answers.
"Sir. I'm 19." You remind him
"Good thing you went to college already. Whole life ahead of you unlike the rest of your team." He says and you've never wanted to break someone's neck more and once he and his men leave the room, you hand your laptop to Wanda and have everyone back up from the table as you slam my fist into it, reducing it to rubble.
"You're paying for that." Tony mentions.
"You pay me. So you're paying for that." You remind him and you're lucky it wasn't his face." You say taking your laptop back from Wanda. "Thank you sweet girl."
As the tension in the room simmered and Secretary Ross exited, leaving the group to grapple with the weight of his ultimatum, a heavy silence settled over you. You could feel the collective unease radiating from your teammates, each grappling with their own thoughts and emotions in the wake of his proposition. The mix of all the feelings makes you nauseous.
Turning to face your fellow Avengers, you could see the turmoil etched on their faces, the weight of Ross's words bearing down upon us like a crushing weight. But amidst the uncertainty and fear, there was also a glimmer of determination in their eyes, a silent vow to stand together in the face of adversity.
"We need to talk," Steve's voice cut through the silence, his gaze sweeping across the room as he addressed each of you in turn. "This isn't a decision to be made lightly. We need to weigh the consequences, consider our options, and come to a consensus as a team."
You nodded in agreement, your mind already racing with the implications of Ross's proposal. The Sokovia Accords represented a fundamental shift in the way the Avengers would operate, a relinquishing of your autonomy in exchange for the illusion of oversight. But at what cost? Would you be forced to compromise your principles, to bend to the will of bureaucrats and politicians who viewed you as nothing more than tools to be wielded at their whim?
As the group dispersed from the meeting room, each lost in your own thoughts, you felt Wanda's hand slip into yours, her touch a comforting anchor amidst the storm of uncertainty that raged within you currently. With her by your side, you knew that whatever decision we ultimately made, you would face it together, united in your commitment to stand up for what you believed in, no matter the consequences. And as you retreated to the solace of our shared quarters, you knew that your journey was far from over, that the road ahead would be fraught with challenges and trials, but that so long as you faced them together, you would emerge stronger, more resilient, than ever before.
===========================================================
As the team goes back and forth arguing sides of right and wrong and if things are better in your hands or in the U.N. Wanda speaks up, "You're saying they'll come for me." Before you can speak, Vision does beside you after you had nudged your way in when he tried to sit next to Wanda, "We would protect you."
"They'll come for me too. Wanda was given powers by the mind stone." You flick it on Vision's forehead, he flinches a bit, but you know it doesn't hurt, not like your own, "But this stone in my chest is a ticking time bomb. Something I've never told you guys is I have never once used 100% of my power. I had talked with Thor who knew about the stones." You gently touch your purple stone, reacting to your touch with a soft glow. "This stone in the past was held and wielded by Celestials, Gods in their own rights, used to decimate worlds." You look around the room. Faces of various degrees of worried or scared or nervous. "If I were to lose control...there's a possibility there won't be an Earth anymore. I know how dangerous I am with this stone, but much like Tony's arc reactor, If we extract this from me. I'm going to die. Last time Bruce did a check up for me...the stone...the stone is wrapped around my heart and lungs. Bruce and I did some tests of moving the stone around and we came to the conclusion it's more than likely to make my lungs collapse and my heart stop if it's pulled out." You look down, unable to look at any of them. "If they take me it might be for the better, but no matter what. I want to keep fighting and keep helping. If I sign that...I'm signing over to my own arrest basically."
"Well it sounds like that might be a good thing." Tony states.
"Fuck you Tony! I've only ever wanted to help people! I never want to hurt or kill people! I'd rather just go live my life as a psychiatrist! Work a normal day and come home to a nice home cooked meal, but I can't just do that! You brought me into this world. Now if you want me to stand down, I guess you'll have to take me out." You state before leaving. You hear Wanda follow behind you, catching up as she holds your hand and arm.
"That is probably the scariest couple with the powers they possess." You hear Tony say just before the two of you get out of hearing range.
As you two left the heated discussion behind, Wanda's hand in yours providing a grounding reassurance, a silent acknowledgment of the challenges you faced together. The weight of the impending decision pressed down on your shoulders, each step echoing the tumultuous thoughts swirling in your mind.
The two of you found solace in a quiet corner of the compound, away from the prying eyes and the cacophony of conflicting opinions. The moon cast a gentle glow over you as you turned to face Wanda, her eyes reflecting a mix of concern and determination.
"I can't believe they'd even suggest something like this," Wanda murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. "To turn against our own, to put us in a position where we have to choose between our principles and our freedom."
"They're scared," you replied, gently squeezing her hand. "Scared of what we can do, scared of the power we wield. But we can't let fear dictate our choices. We need to stand up for what we believe is right, even if it means going against those we once called allies."
Wanda nodded, a quiet resolve settling over her features. "I won't let them take you, Y/N. No matter what they decide. We'll find a way to navigate through this mess together."
A mixture of gratitude and warmth enveloped you as you leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. "And I won't let them take you either. We'll face whatever comes our way, side by side."
As the night stretched before you, uncertainty lingering in the air, the two of you stood united against the challenges that awaited you. The Avengers, once a symbol of unity, found themselves at a crossroads, and the choices we made in the days to come would shape the course of our future, both as individuals and as a team.
