Note: it’s my first real fic back and people were asking about it so almost 3 years later I shall deliver

The day just keeps getting worse and worse.

You’ve always been a good student. You’ve never failed tests, always had good grades, everything had always just come naturally to you.

So why did you fail that last test?

Math was always a harder subject for you, but you never actually struggled with it per se. It wasn’t something that challenged you, but challenged you more than the other subjects in school.

You were in College Algebra, the last math class you needed ever, and you just bombed one of the biggest tests of the year.

You tried not to think about it the rest of the day, but the large red F followed you around constantly. Your brain was spinning in circles.

As you were walking to your last class, art, Iwaizumi stopped you on the way.

“Hey! How was your test?” he asked with a smile, already assuming the answers. He wasn’t expecting you to tear up at the word test. “Oh shit, what happened?”

“I… I failed it,” you stammer, trying desperately not to cry.

Iwa took in a breath. He had no clue what to do, but was determined to do something. “Do you wanna go get coffee after school? It might make you feel better.”

You frowned in confusion. “But don’t you have practice?”

“Eh, it’s an emergency. I’ll be fine if I skip one day,” he shrugged, then looked down at you, giving you his signature smile. “You deserve to be happy.”

You blushed, and the butterflies in your stomach started fluttering. “Okay,” you agreed. “I’ll meet you by the doors after school.”

Iwa leaned down and kissed you on the forehead. “Alright, sounds good. I’ll see you in a bit.”

“Bye!” you wave as he walks away. You walk into class feeling a little better.

“So, tell me all about it,” he says once you’ve sat down in the shop. You had gotten your favorite drink while Iwa had gotten a frappe.

You rant about your test, how you had studied like normal and the test felt fine. You thought you had done really good on it, but then received the grade back today. You started to tear up again.

“Hmmph,” Iwaizumi made a noise. “I wonder if the teacher just accidentally graded it wrong. Can I see it?”

You pull the paper out of your bag. He took it, flipped through the pages, and looked up at you.

“There isn’t a single mark on this test other than the F at the top. I think it might have been a mistake, bub.”

“You really think so?” you ask as you sip on your drink.

“There’s no way it wasn’t. I mean all the answers look correct from a glance,” Iwa handed the papers back to you and took a sip from his drink. “If anything they were probably grading 2 and a time and got mixed up. I’d just go talk to them tomorrow.”

You nodded, feeling way less anxious than before. There was a chance.

As you finished up your drinks, you left the shop hand in hand with Hajime, walking towards your house. Tomorrow, you would show your teacher your test and everything would be okay.

Kita as a boyfriend? Would he be protective?

I feel like he would be protective to an extent. Let me elaborate:

Let’s say your friends with another guy. To Kita? No big deal. It’s when someone starts obviously flirting with you that he gets a tad jealous and protective.

I feel like the two of you would have such a trusting relationship. Like, you know he would never cheat on you, and you to him. So there’s no real big reason for him to have to get jealous you know?

I feel like he’s super level-headed and strong minded so he knows when it’s time to be protective or not.

His hair is stupid.

That’s what you think to yourself as you follow him through the school courtyard. His hair looks absolutely awful. With the two different colors that are uneven, his bangs looking like he cut them too short by himself, the top longer than the sides and back. It was stupid.

Kita Shinsuke was your biggest rival. Always striving to beat him, he was always one step in front of you. Grades, talents, athleticism, you name it. It pissed you off to no end. Sometimes you swear he even does it to taunt you.

You glare at him as you follow him into the school. God he looked so dumb today.

He walked to the shoe lockers, you following. You couldn’t get over him. His stupid hair, dumb jacket, neutral body… nice face… pretty jawline… beautiful eyes…

What the hell? Snap out of it.

“Can I help you?” a voice brought you out of your trance. You looked up to see none other than Kita Shinsuke staring down at you with a blank stare.

“Hmm?” you asked with a tiny bit of attitude.

“You were following me and staring at me. Almost like you’re obsessed with me,” he raised an eyebrow at you.

You snort. “Obsessed? You wish.”

He scoffed. “Maybe, maybe not. Now hurry up or we’ll be late to class.”

You sigh. You had every class with him. God you hate him so much.

You head to class and the day goes by smoothly. You ace your exam, got a great score on your lab assignment, and even had free time to do whatever you wanted.

It was lunch time and you had just sat down to eat. Normally, you would sit with your group of friends in the lunchroom. Today was no exception, just that they haven’t made it through the line yet.

“Is this spot taken?” you hear someone ask as you take a bite out of your sandwich.

You look up and Kita is standing across from you, watching you with that damn blank stare.

“I mean no,” you say once you’ve finished swallowing your sandwich. “You can sit there I guess.”

Kita sat down and placed his bag on the ground next to his feet. He then proceeded to open a bento box (you definitely thought he made it out of thin air, you didn’t watch him grab it from his bag before he sat down). You watched him grab his chopsticks and take a bite of whatever he had.

You hate him enough, you might as well take some of his food in spite of him, right?

You reached across the table and grabbed a mini onigiri from the other side of the bento. Kita liked at you shocked as you bit into it, grinning while doing so.

You grinned a sadist grin. “My bad.”

“My mom made that for me.”

“And you can tell your mom is was delicious and I said thank you,” you respond as you go back to your sandwich.

“You have to give me a bite of your sandwich now.”

“Ew- what? No.”

“Fine,” Kita crossed his arms. “You can repay me another way.”

“And what might that be?” you ask while taking another bite.

“Go on a date with me.”

You choked, genuinely not believing what you heard. Did he really say what you think he just said?

“Come again?”

“That’s how you’ll repay me. By going on a date with me,” Kita then proceeded to take another bite of his curry.

Your heart was racing. There was no way him, Kita Shinsuke, your biggest nemesis and rival, was asking you on a date.

Then you began to think. You recalled every time he looked at you, there wasn’t any hate like there was when you looked at him. It was almost as if he had no idea what was going on- like he didn’t push your buttons and one-up you on purpose.

You started thinking about all the times you wondered off thinking about him. All the times you’ve called him pretty, your face would sometimes get red talking to him… was this a crush?

“Hello?” Kita waved a hand in front of your face to break you from your haze. “So is it a yes or no?”

Fuck it.

“Sure. I’ll go. But ONLY if we get chicken nuggets.”

“You have yourself a deal.”

Exams were hard.

Being a student was tough. Every day you were cramming for your tests and exams and every day you begin to feel more and more tired. You weren’t getting the sleep you were supposed to, all you did in your free time was study. It was really taking a toll.

You had even gone so far as to cancel your plans with your boyfriend. All because you had to study. And Kuroo Tetsuro was NOT having that.

You had cancelled on him once again, the two of you were planning on going to a restaurant and then a nice park afterwards. He had it all planned out and he was excited. But you cancelled because you had to study.

You see, Kuroo wasn’t worried about exams. He’s never had a problem with them and school just comes easy to him. You on the other hand, were stressing out. He knew you would do well on the tests, you were smart and hard working. Of course you would pass.

After canceling on him again, Kuroo finally had enough. He had been telling you over and over that you would do well and to not stress over it. This time he was going to make sure you knew.

First stop, flower shop. He decided to get you some (your favorite flower here), because it was your favorite and he knew it would bring a smile to your face. Then he went to the supermarket and bought some of your favorite snacks, because he knew when you were studying you never ate. Stopping by a local fast food restaurant to get you a drink on the way, he finally made it outside your house. Parking his car, he walks up to your house and rings your doorbell.

Meanwhile, you had been cramming away at Algebra, which was your least favorite class by far. It was the hardest class for you to comprehend and you struggled with it. You heard the doorbell rang and sat your pencil down, rubbing your eyes. Who knows how long you’ve been staring at your textbook, trying to do the practice problems you didn’t understand.

You opened the door to see your boyfriend holding flowers, a drink, and a plastic sack of snacks. Needless to say, you were surprised. When you told him you couldn’t make it tonight, you weren’t expecting this to happen.

“Hey baby,” he started. “I know you’ve been really stressed out, so I got you some things.”

You took the flowers from him and smelled them. They were amazing. You stared at your boyfriend lovingly, thinking he was the best thing in the universe. And honestly? He is.

Kuroo stepped inside and took his shoes off, following you to your room. He sat on your bed beside you.

“Wanna help me study for my Algebra exam? I only have a week left,” you asked him while you ate your snack.

Kuroo chuckled. “How about we do something else, love. You’ve been studying for weeks nonstop.”

“But if I don’t study, I’ll-“

“You’re not going to fail. You’re super smart with or without the studying and you’re going to ace these exams. I’m not worried about you all,” Kuroo explained. “Please, you’ve been studying religiously and you’re so stressed out. Take a break, okay?”

You looked down at your floor as you thought. I mean- you have really been studying a lot, and it’s affected your eating and drinking habits too… maybe a break wouldn’t be so bad.

“Okay,” you told him. “Let’s take a break.”

Kuroo smiled. “I’m proud of you, love. You’re doing so well.”

You smiled back. “What would you like to do?”

Kuroo looked around your room as he thought for a moment. His eyes settled on the TV across from your bed. “Why don’t we watch a movie? Your pick.”

You got up and went to your TV to turn it on and grab the remote. Meanwhile, Kuroo was situating himself so the two of you could cuddle and watch.

You end up picking (you’re favorite movie) and crawl back into bed, snuggling up beside Kuroo, and eventually falling asleep.

Once Kuroo noticed you had fallen asleep, he kissed your forehead and whispered “I love you.”
