Preview:  “Wait!”
Useless. It was useless to get her to stop with a call. If that ever worked, more people would get caught.
“Wait! Nami!”
Still, Luffy needed to try.
“Stop!”
Luffy never realized just how many people were out during this time of day. While his hometown wasn’t the biggest of cities, it still was a city, and people were an inevitability. He’d always thought it relatively empty at dusk; the people he was bouncing off of like a pinball spoke in fierce opposition to that thought. People walking their dogs, children playing in their last bits of freedom before homework and bedtime, tired adults just wanting to get home, workers heading to night shifts in the various shops and restaurants, and many, many others, all got in his way. But not enough for him to lose sight of his target, even as she tried their damnedest to shake him off her trail.
It worked only enough to maintain distance between them. No matter how close he got, it was never close enough.

A month.
Normally, Luffy wouldn’t have had a second thought when it came to just how often he saw his friends. They had their own lives, their own needs, and he certainly couldn’t be the center of their worlds that regularly needed to be checked upon. He didn’t want to be either.
But with Sanji... something nagged him to be worried, to investigate.
He wished he had had the time sooner. With finals and projects weighing him down, he couldn’t dedicate any time to seeing for himself just where Sanji had flitted off to. He told himself repeatedly that Sanji was capable, Sanji took very good care of himself, Sanji was more adult than him and Usopp combined, but the gnawing feeling of offness grew with each passing day until he stood in front of Sanji’s apartment building with Usopp by his side.
The feeling only grew more at the sight.

Well, they were in at least, but what in the Void did they do now? Anders peered through the hair hanging in his face to quickly glance around. There were eight
no, ten guards in whatever one would call this area, (reception? Anders thought half-jokingly) and that was just the ones he could see. He, Fenris, and Varric had faced more together with no problem, but he hadn’t seen Fenris fight without a weapon, and he himself was without stave in hand.
Anders knew he could and would fair without. It wasn’t the first time he had had to do so since escaping the tower; it was just nice to know that a miscast would end with a broken weapon and not an exploded hand. But Fenris
Despite what the elf said, Anders was unsure of his abilities or how long it had been since he had gone into a fight and won without his sword. Varric was the only one without disadvantage, and even he couldn’t take on whatever lurked in these horrific dungeons. Lofty story evidence be damned.
“Move!”
Anders was shoved forward and stumbled, nearly pitched onto the hard stone ground, by a firm hand to his back. Only two had decided to accompany them; Better for their odds, but it still bothered.
Fenris was already following the guard that led. The elf’s head was still bowed, and Anders couldn’t see his eyes. Fleetingly, he wondered what was going through Fenris’s mind and if he was still where he needed to be mentally if they were to get back out the way they came in. The mage followed, keeping his chin to his chest just as Fenris was and fell into step behind him. He wanted to move closer, to hiss his concern to the elf, but the attempt was met with a stinging rap to the back of his calves with a leather cord.
“Keep form, slave!”

“Fuck!” He groaned into the packed dirt beneath his cheek and spit out what little got into his mouth, “That. Was not what I was expecting.”
“Clearly,” A light laughter from above him. He winced as his arm was pushed further up his back at an odd angle, “You were doing so well too. Dodging all those hits. Makes me rather proud.”
“Ok, Rather Proud, get the hell off. My hand’s fallin’ asleep.”
“Hmm. What was it you said to me the other day? ‘Make me’?”
More laughter. Yuusuke felt his eye twitch. The batty bastard thought he was just so funny. He supposed he deserved it though. Kuronue had been letting him get away with a lot of teasing as of late.
Yuusuke squirmed under Kuronue’s heavier body, trying to find a way to wiggle out of his hold. It only made Kuronue’s grip tighter and the Yuusuke-shaped ring in the dirt more pronounced. Damn it, he had been doing well until now. In eight weeks, he had advanced enough to take Seiko without much effort AND knock Kuronue back a couple feet on what Yuusuke affectionately called ‘easy mode.’

“Remember when I showed you this?” Her voice drifted on lazy, quiet turbulence from the fire behind them. Yet another night they were spending outside the comforts (albeit few) Kirkwall provided, “I thought you didn’t like it. It’s kind of on the childish side.”
“Hawke, have I ever given you the impression that I didn’t enjoy your layers?”
Her giggle soothed him, but also strummed the chord of sadness in his chest, “Hmm, wasn’t it you who said, ‘Attacked by dwarves, approached by strangers, stumbling upon ancient riddles
madness.’ A layer you seemed to not enjoy.”
“Only because you were in constant danger.”
“Story of my life.”
“I can safely say that Hand Shadows are a manageable layer.”
Her laugh again, and for the second time, Fenris felt the air in his lungs go icy, “Shadow Puppets, Firefly.”
He nodded, “Yes. That’s right.”
On the rocks in front of them, the exaggerated, yet simplified silhouette of a fox’s head appeared, but it didn’t last long and morphed into a rather large, lumpy spider. Hawke smirked and made the arachnid wiggle its legs.
“This was Carver’s favorite. I cannot tell you how many times he tried to scare us with it. ‘Oh, no! The spiders from the field are on the window! Bethany! It’s gonna get you first!’ She fell for it exactly once. Every other time, Carver got popped hard enough to leave a nasty bruise.”
Fenris coughed out a chuckle. Carver could claim until he was blue in the face that there was nothing he had in common with Marian, but they shared a deep love for stirring up trouble. Perhaps it was just a Hawke trait. Regardless, Fenris could see Marian doing the exact same as Carver given the chance.
“This one though,” Hawke winked as she changed her hands, “This is the best one.”

“Sir, Captain Rogers is requesting entry.”
“Why?”
Tony was genuinely baffled. Steve was supposed to be on a mission, gone for weeks in fact, and he just showed up on his doorstep out of the blue.
“He says he has a gift for Peter.”
Oh, Tony immediately soured, that was his game. Peter’s birthday wasn’t for another ten days, and already, Steve was trying to one-up him in the gift department. Well, joke’s on him. Steve was showing his hand; it gave Tony plenty of time to find and get something better.
“Let him in.”
A floor above, he heard someone move, but paid it little mind. He’d give Steve a few moments of victory before going up there and completely crushing him. The thought made him smirk over the bits and bobs littering his work table. It’d be fun putting Rogers in his place.
He was just beginning to concoct plan after plan on just how he was going to bring him down a couple pegs when a scream echoed from above. Metal scattered in a chorus of ringing tinkles, and Tony’s chair clattered to the floor, booming like the bass of a drum as it hit, as Tony raced up the stairs. He missed the last step and stumbled, barely managing to keep himself upright until he reached his living room.

Chapters: 6/10   Series: Peter Parker’s Privileged Life Fandom: Marvel Cinematic Universe, Iron Man, Spiderman Rating: Teen Warnings: Graphic Depictions of Violence Relationships: Tony Stark/Pepper Potts Additional Tags: Minor Character Death, Tony Stark Has a Heart, Guilt, Abandonment Issues, Orphaned!Peter, Adoptive Father!Tony, Severe Injuries, Making Amends, Superhero Accidents/Collateral Damage, Original Unimportant Characters Summary: A diverted attack takes away the last Peter has, and it’s all Iron Man’s fault.
It was terribly last minute, but somehow a nice dinner had been prepared in the span of an hour and a half, everyone had been settled down and rounded up, and an almost quaint coziness warmed the room. It should have been odd having all of the Avengers at one table acting as if they were a family sitting down for a holiday meal; however, if anyone felt any awkwardness, none expressed it.
Peter liked the noise and activity. He liked hearing the hum of conversation and smelling the various foods in front of him. It reminded him of the BBQs Uncle Ben would host for their neighbors every few weeks during the Summer months. Though, nothing in front of him now would ever really come close to the aroma sweet BBQ sauce burning on the hot metal lines of a grill.
It was good he wasn’t wholly distracted by the almost-feast in front of him. It left him time to look around at all the new people he had met, particularly Thor. Between mouthfuls, he would shoot him looks. Out of all the Avengers, Thor had been the only one he hadn’t had one-on-one time with, and Peter was full to bursting with words just for the Asgardian. Picking a few to start with was only part of the battle; picking just when to jump in was another.
“You do not hide your curiosity well, Young Parker.”
Doe-eyes looked up to catch unnatural blue. Peter nodded in agreement, “I wasn’t really trying to hide it. Sorry for staring though.”
“Ah, do not apologize. Many in your realm stare. Many more are curious.”
“It still must be annoying,” Peter added, “All the questions are probably worse.”
Thor smiled lopsidedly, “They aren’t so bad either.”
“So, questions are okay, then?”
“Of course.”

Chapters: 5/10   Series: Peter Parker’s Privileged Life Fandom: Marvel Cinematic Universe, Iron Man, Spiderman Rating: Teen Warnings: Graphic Depictions of Violence Relationships: Tony Stark/Pepper Potts Additional Tags: Minor Character Death, Tony Stark Has a Heart, Guilt, Abandonment Issues, Orphaned!Peter, Adoptive Father!Tony, Severe Injuries, Making Amends, Superhero Accidents/Collateral Damage, Original Unimportant Characters Summary: A diverted attack takes away the last Peter has, and it’s all Iron Man’s fault.
“JARVIS? Are you up?”
“For you, always.”
“What time is it?”
“2:49 AM, sir.”
“So, Tony isn’t up then.”
“On the contrary, Mister Stark is very much awake.”
“Why?”
“The same reason you are, Young Master.”
It seemed like the longest trek in the world, moving from his room at the end of the hall to Tony’s. It was dark, and the house made noises of both sleep and settling, creaking and groaning like something that ached. It was nothing Peter wasn’t used to. Aunt May’s and Uncle Ben’s home had been older than Tony’s, and weird sounds from neighbors and the noise pollution that floated over from the city actually helped him sleep at night, but even the most comforting of sounds warped in the wake of a nightmare. Corridors seemed longer and more narrow; shadows crueller and more jagged, wanting to grab and drag.
It was hard to avoid the darker patches of hallway, but Peter made it. Wide brown eyes peeked around Tony’s silently, slowly opening door. Not a light was on in his room, but Tony’s frame was clear to him. He was hunched, curled really, in the middle of his bed. Forehead resting in his palms, elbows on his knees, legs crossed, Tony had constructed a micro-universe around him that grew and warred and destroyed parts of itself continuously.
Had it a body, its veins would be blackened; skin jaundiced and stretched painfully tight over barely-there muscles and hard, jutting bone; nails brittle, brown, and crooked, willing and eager to tear and shred; and eyes red and swollen, popping out from its skull and terrifyingly sharp. A sickened, diseased thing it would be with limbs so thin they seemed to go on for miles. It wished to infect and feed on anyone who got close. It was a trickster, always seeming too ill to have anything more than the occasional victim, all few and far between, but to Tony, it was a lanky, solitary, successful hunter and a regular bedfellow.

Because We Need Each Other
Chapters: 3/10   Series: Peter Parker’s Privileged Life Fandom: Marvel Cinematic Universe, Iron Man, Spiderman Rating: Teen Warnings: Graphic Depictions of Violence Relationships: Tony Stark/Pepper Potts Additional Tags: Minor Character Death, Tony Stark Has a Heart, Guilt, Abandonment Issues, Orphaned!Peter, Adoptive Father!Tony, Severe Injuries, Making Amends, Superhero Accidents/Collateral Damage, Original Unimportant Characters Summary: A diverted attack takes away the last Peter has, and it’s all Iron Man’s fault.
“Aunt May would not have been happy with you.”
“She wouldn’t be the first to not approve of me.”
“No, no. I mean,” Peter’s eyebrows furrowed, “You’ve really never made cookies, Tony?”
So began Peter’s crusade. Every time he thought Tony had a moment of peace, he would pounce, begging Tony take him to ‘the little store on the corner Aunt May always went to,’ and every time Tony found some excuse to squirm away and avoid the issue. He couldn't admit to Peter that he didn't own any baking tools; hell, he didn't even own a set of measuring cups. There was never any need to fill his kitchen with anything other than basic equipment when he could fill his workshop. He hardly ever spent any time there anyway.
And while telling Peter that seemed a little blasphemous, but it had to be done. It wasn’t often that Tony felt the sharp prick of being without (he was Tony Stark, after all, the most privileged. Take that how you’d like), but something about the boy put him in that spot more often than not. Peter’s scrutiny of him stung a lot more than even Pepper’s, and Tony was finding it harder and harder to be the take-no-prisoners, give-no-shits, driven man he had always been around him.
Then again, when had Tony ever found it easy to lay his soul bare to anyone, even his closest friends? Something as simple as admitting to never baking cookies had turned into the discovery of an ever-growing stain of missed childhood milestones. Or so it seemed. Overthinking was a destroyer.
It took three full days, a lot of begging, more than a little whining, and one or two incidents of UNFAIR ALLIANCES between Peter and Pepper for Tony to finally give in. They made an afternoon of shopping for equipment (which Peter was very particular about), finding ingredients (if it didn’t match the colors of the packages Peter insisted Aunt May had used, it was not going in the cart), and hauling and setting it all up inside just right (with Peter’s nod of approval at the very end). Tony had to admit full cabinets and new appliances did look nice, even if it was a pile of things he would likely only use once.
