asagiri saying This about sigma is interesting to me so i’m gonna share a few thoughts about it
Tumblr media
sigma is such a double-edged sword of a character. him being the ultimate stranger to the earth is what lends way to him ALSO being the ultimate display of humanity in an intimate facet. his blank slate is why they’re such a pillar in bsd’s themes of growing & connection. many characters represent these themes in different ways, but sigma is a special case because he has absolutely nothing else to fall back on— he’s been conscious for three years and in that time they’ve only really known cruelty, he’s only known a life that’s anything BUT normal. and that’s precisely why normality is something at the core of what she searches for. i think asagiri saying that in this search for normality, “the more sigma he becomes” is interesting too — bc sigma’s first autonomous choice was the name he gave himself, and that set the wheels in motion for his arc ab forging his own path and gaining a tangible sense of agency
Tumblr media
side note: he has a lot in common with chuuya. but that’s another conversation

sigma just staked his life on Everything. he risked it all, broke the mold he was forced into, all for people he barely knows, bc they represent the home he longs for. and now he knows EVERYTHING. everything has changed. he hasn’t been in this story for long but he’s done SO MUCH, forging his soul through literal hell just to save everyone and get a taste of freedom. he is so important to this story. things have a chance to get better now and it’s largely bc of SIGMA

“house and wilson drugged each other” this “wilson kidnapped house’s guitar” that “wilson proposed to house in a diner” this. remember when house gave wilson a CHILD. remember when wilson was sad over not being a father so house hired a child actor and told wilson it was his long lost son from one of his failed relationships

i just listened to the album “preacher’s daughter” by ethel cain and i genuinely don’t think any story told through music has devastated me in the way this one did. the mind this woman has to write like THAT…. i’m going to be thinking about it for a long time. the story is harrowing and it’s so brutally vivid… truly depicts the more haunting side of womanhood, of religious trauma and of abuse, etc etc… yeah. here’s lyrics that stuck out to me. if you need me i’ll be laying down in the middle of a busy highway

re: prim’s name being a spoiler for her death: also in the victorian flower language primroses say “i can’t live without you.”
so of course katniss had to live without her.
OH I DIDN’T EVEN REALIZE THIS…….. nothing to smile about in my life

i do like the hunger games movies — like, as far as book adaptations go, things were relatively good — but they were WRONG for not including the little bit of haymitch’s backstory in the catching fire movie. the pieces of haymitch’s backstory that the books gave us offered a LOT of insight into his motivations and the way he trusts & understands katniss irrevocably. haymitch’s games were a quarter quell, too. he lost an ally, too. and more importantly, he was the first person to realize that the force fields that surround the arenas are deadly, and he used that to his advantage and won the games as a result. his actions were seen as an act of rebellion by the capitol, and so snow had his family killed. the next, and only other person to ever do this — to use the force field as a weapon — was katniss. she didn’t come up with the idea on her own. she got it from witnessing clips of haymitch’s games. and she knew what it could cost, and she did it anyway. and that was what officially set the wheels of the rebellion into motion. it was a flame that haymitch had sparked years ago, even if it wasn’t a conscious intention. at the time of his own games, the people weren’t ready to unify and rebel as a cohesive unit, but once katniss used his same method, they were. the parallels between haymitch and katniss run deep, and he trusts her irrevocably. he knew exactly what she was about to do when she said “yes” in the tributes meeting, and he stood behind her immediately. haymitch is arguably the one and only person who understands katniss in her entirety. he has felt the same grief, undergone the same tragedies, and held the same passion that begged for a better world.

and it’s funny to see people say that prim’s death happened for “no reason.” because it’s almost like…… war of any kind inevitably causes the senseless death of thousands. and it doesn’t mean anything. yes, prim died for no reason, and that was the point.
coin only ever cared about power, it was thinly veiled as a pursuit for justice. she was fine with innocent children dying if it meant citizens would think the blood was all on snow’s hands. pair this with gale’s weapon, and the fact that prim happened to be on the front lines, and bam. innocent, senseless deaths.
that’s from an emotional standpoint, though. from a narrative standpoint, prim’s death actually DID make sense. just as rue’s death served as the catalyst that convinced katniss to die by nightlock (the act that began the rebellion), prim’s death was the catalyst that forced katniss to confront coin’s true colors. now, katniss knew that coin was really no different from snow. it all went in a circle. the rebellion started because of katniss’s love for prim, and the rebellion was won because of that same love.
and on a final note: prim’s death was foreshadowed by her name alone. a primrose is a flower that wilts shortly after blooming.

sometimes the most beautiful relationships you’ll have are the ones you never see coming. the ones you don’t go looking for. you’re laughing with a friend for the millionth time and as you settle into a comfortable silence, you suddenly realize that this is who you’re meant for, and they were right there all along. it’s the relationships where the two of you aren’t a “unit,” you’re not two halves of a whole — you are your own people, you are individuals who value each other’s growth and you choose, deliberately, every single day, to love each other, to grow alongside to each other, to learn from each other. sometimes falling in love isn’t falling at all — it’s just waking up again.

okay well now i’ve actually listened to the album and i thought i was prepared but i was not. you know if i made music this good, i too would release it without saying a word
being an arctic monkeys fan is so funny bc i’m used to artists making a big deal about their releases and then there’s them. alex will write the most poignant, introspective, dumbest shit you’ll ever hear and then the band will make cool sounds and then they’ll drop it like it’s loose change and then you never hear from them again
