Honeymoon

As my wedding day with Mark gets closer to ending, I wanted to have a fic to celebrate the ocassion! Specifically, I wanted to have this be a honeymoon fic (if that wasn't obvious from the title lol). Shepard and Mark get to have a little chat at the beach about family, and not being able to have your family with you for a big moment like a wedding

Shepard hasn’t been to the beach in years. When Mark had suggested that as a honeymoon spot, she wasn’t sure about it. She’s always gotten hot easily, and she hates being around sand. But with the charges against Mark being lifted, he has more freedom now than he has in a long time. So when he said in their wedding planning that he wanted to go to the beach for their honeymoon, Shepard was happy to oblige.

They’re not at a popular destination, but they made sure to get a room at a nice resort for a week. It has beachfront access along with a massage parlor and restaurant built into it, and the poolside bar is nice to have even though Shepard doesn’t drink. She’s able to enjoy a virgin pina colada on the beach with Mark thanks to it, and that helps keep her occupied as she tans on a beach chair next to her new husband. 

Even if Shepard doesn’t like the sand, she does at least get to enjoy the view of Mark in his beachwear. He’s wearing a Hawaiian shirt with the buttons left undone and a pair of black swim trunks. His tinted lens sunglasses look good on him too, reflecting the sun off of them as he takes a sip from his margarita.

She does worry about him drinking, though. He’s been sober for a long time now, but Shepard’s aware of how slippery of a slope addiction can be. She trusts Mark, more than just about anything, but she still worries about him. 

Especially when she can tell he’s upset about something. Mark has never been the most emotionally expressive, but he’s quieter than usual and there’s a tense set to his jaw. 

Shepard hopes that he’s not drinking because he’s upset. This trip was supposed to be fun for them, a chance to go out and do something just for the two of them. If Mark’s upset about something, she needs to know what. At least then she can give him some kind of comfort.

Shepard cuddles up to his side, resting her hand on his belly. 

“We’re going to sweat to death cuddling like this,” Mark points out. 

“At least I’ll die with my husband, then,” she says.

Mark gives a dry laugh in response. “You need a little more of a survival instinct than that, sweetheart.”

“I have plenty of survival instinct. And I’m good at noticing when you’re upset.” Shepard rests her chin on Mark’s shoulder. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing,” he assures. “I’m happy to be here with you.”

“But?”

“But…” Mark wraps his arm around Shepard, reaching up to toy with some of her hair. “Angie should’ve been there for our wedding.”

“Ah.” 

Shepard can’t blame him for being upset about that. Getting married is big, and that’s the kind of milestone you’d want your family to be around for. Angelina was all that Mark had, and she died before she could have seen the day he got married.

“I bet she would’ve been happy for you,” Shepard says.

“And thought I took my damn time getting married,” Mark says. He sighs, running his fingers through Shepard’s hair. “Christ, I’m almost fifty.”

“It just took you a while to find the right person.”

“Well, you’re definitely the right person.”

Mark turns his head to press a kiss to Shepard’s forehead. He’s quiet for a moment. Shepard lets him take his time. She knows he needs it sometimes to work out what to say. Emotional talks aren’t his strong suit, and especially not ones about Angelina. It’s hard to imagine just how painful it is to lose your only family— if she’s honest, she thinks she’d end up burning her whole life down too if her sister died. But it's deeper for Mark with the layers of his and Angelina's relationship. He practically raised her, and her death tore a part from him that can never come back even as things have started to turn around for him.

Eventually he says, “You know I’m happy with you.”

“Of course I know that,” Shepard says. 

“It just seems wrong that she missed this. She always loved weddings and that kind of stuff. She would’ve been all over trying to help with the planning and that kinda thing if you’d let her.” Mark sighs. “And it pisses me off that she wasn’t around to see mine.”

“It’s not fair,” Shepard agrees. 

“It sure as fuck isn’t,” Mark says. He takes a long sip of his drink. “I don’t know why I’m thinking about it so much right now.”

“Probably because it’s a family thing. She was your only family, and now we’re making a new family. It makes sense that you’d be upset she’s not around to see it,” she points out. 

“Guess so,” he says. 

Shepard knows that’s probably as close to an agreement as she’ll get from him. It’s still hard for him to admit that he’s hurting. But she’s here for him, and she hopes that he knows that she’d be with him through anything. Dating while he was in hiding wasn’t easy, and integrating him back into the world after his charges got lifted wasn’t easy either. She’s stuck with him through everything, and she doesn’t think that there’s anything at this point that she wouldn’t be willing to get through as long as Mark is with her. 

Mark sighs, looking down at his drink. “Is that pina colada good?”

“Yeah?” Shepard replies, not quite sure why he’s asking. 

“I’ll get one too later. I should switch to virgin stuff,” he says. 

“Sounds good. We can treat ourselves to all the virgin options,” she says.

Shepard’s proud of Mark. She won’t say it outloud because she knows that he’d get embarrassed and try to brush off the compliment. But that he’s able to recognize when to stop drinking is a good thing, especially since she’s sure thinking about Angelina is a trigger for him. Her murder is what led to him binge drinking, after all.

He’s grown in so many ways in the time since she’s met him. Mark’s not the same person that Shepard met back in that ruined bathroom, chained to the wall by a bruised leg from his attempts to escape. And she doesn’t think that she’s the same person who found him either. Both of them have changed, and she likes to think that it’s all been for the better. 

Shepard presses a quick kiss to Mark’s cheek, her lips brushing against his scar. His skin is hot beneath hers and she can taste sea salt.

“I love you,” she says. “And I’m so happy that you’re my husband.”

Mark grins in response, reaching around Shepard to take her drink from where it sits on the table beside their beach chairs. She makes an offended noise as he takes a sip from it, but doesn’t object beyond that. Not when he gives the glass back to her, letting her drink from it too. 

Mark rubs one hand down her back, and he says, “I love you too, wife.”

Greetings, happy April which means happy autism awareness & acceptance month.

As we state every year, Autism Speaks isn’t the “autism advocacy” support group you think it is. Autism Speaks is full of ableism (and 🧩). Autism Speaks is primarily focused on autistic CHILDREN, they refuse to acknowledge that autistic children turn into autistic adults. So please, don’t go buying that AS (BS) merch at Walmart.

What’s wrong with 🧩?

Puzzle pieces say that there is something wrong with autistic people, therefore “there is a missing piece” or that we need a cure for our autism.

What can I use instead of 🧩?

The infinity symbol. ♾️ After all, the infinity symbol signifies unity.

What organizations can I support instead of Autism Speaks?

There’s organizations like Autistic Women & Non-binary Network (AWN) and Yellow Ladybugs who both support autistic women & gender diverse individuals.

And as always, we need acceptance AND awareness, not one or the other. Let’s also acknowledge the whole spectrum of autism, not just bits and pieces.

This is just a short piece I wanted to write up. Let’s also acknowledge that April is also for sexual assault awareness and deaf history.

there are a lot bits and pieces still going around and being discussed about the hengdian clownery. personally, the most interesting is the fact that where wyb is supposed to be is 15 minutes away to where xz is staying in hengdian — and the timeline we are now piecing together. 🧩

where wyb was supposed to be is not actually inside “hengdian world studios” but as good as. to those who are confused because what people are posting is that douyin has him located in “dongyang” last 2/18 and allegedly last 2/2. well, this information below may explain why:

XZ is staying at Radisson Hotel which is where WYB also stayed when he did LOF and Luoyang. XZ used it too when he was filming YGY and this filming time was when an AUX appliance ( endorsed by WYB ) was found sent to the hotel. So you can say that they are familiar with this place so if there is somewhere to meet then this is their best bet. I’m pretty sure this place is discreet and employees may be given NDAs by companies that have their talents staying there. In this case, a VIP client like Xiao Zhan will not be there and continue to do so without specific arrangements done for him.

there is also a comment from someone who is familiar with Hengdian, that this hotel is close to the expressway, like 3-5 mins away. so it is convenient if you need to move around. we don’t really know anything about WYB’s movie or whatever project he is doing, but seeing this, it’s most likely in Zhejiang. this makes sense cause when the news about the location was out, others tested it and wyb was no longer 7km away but 30km. meaning he has left the hotel and posted on douyin on his way back to work. this is a classic meeting up on their part when their locations are close.

2/2 - WYB’s douyin IP is turned off. This only means his IP will not be visible in his profile, but his location can still be tracked when he posts something ( allegedly ). So it could be because he went to HD or they have plans of meeting up so it’s best to be safe.

2/5 - XZ went to Hangzhou to film his performance for BRTV spring festival gala. XZS shared a behind the scenes of that and one thing cpfs noticed was a particular suitcase. the comment was hilarious actually cause the fan was asking why the suitcase was so old and beat up 😂😂😂

turns out, this looks really similar to a suitcase wyb used back in 2016. it makes sense that it’s beat up and covered in different things now. i know that wyb is not the only person who can have this suitcase but this is just how cpns go. 🤷🏻‍♀️

my clown mind also likes the idea of wyb being there. it’s not as notorious as hengdian world studios with all the paparazzi. the place xz shot this at is pretty lowkey, so wyb can blend in if he visits.

2/9 - GG posted a selfie which has it’s variety of cpn speculations on it’s own. however, looking at it with what we have now — this makes more sense now:

the second photo shared by xz is really a clue. the ybo art was also so focused on how the ornament was placed. maybe yibo was the one who placed that? and it’s why xz was so fixated. ☺️

and so they were both quiet for the duration of the holidays. xz breaking that with the 5th day for the god of wealth — which is a stock video. i don’t fault him for that tho, he is free to relax.

2/13 - WYB has added some love songs to his qq playlist and the subjects of it : “accompanying is the longest love confession” and being happy despite of a cloudy day? It could be he is missing XZ, especially that Valentines Day is the next day. Maybe he traveled to closer to XZ on 2/14. Take note that XZ is continuously working on the drama, he only had a few days completely off.

2/17 - XZS posted a series of photos that some of his solo fans said is different from what was shared last year. It can be they couldn’t do any new materials because XZ was busy with work + WYB is there. Who knows when they will be able to spend this time together again. I like the idea of their staff respecting their time alone together. They both deserve it 🤎

WHICH LEADS US TO 2/18 when the whole wyb in hengdian issue came up. ⭕️

- I've got two real life best friends that I get together with and have coffee every weekend together, and sometimes do other things, and this is significant to me because adulthood makes it hard to keep friends, let alone see them.

- I got into the marine ecology lab at my school that I have been pushing for entrance into, despite missing a pre-req. I get to be on a boat for eight hours next quarter! Woohoo!

- I got fanart for a fic I am very proud of but very rarely interact with anybody about, which has boosted my confidence and made me feel really good, and each comment I've gotten since they posted the art has made my heart sing extra loud!

On top of the other reasons I said I don't like things, you do actually have to convince me 6 times outta 10 if you want me to read a Homestuck fic in the third person. There is just something to the flavor of 2nd person that hits different. There is a reason different perspectives exist, and I think they can all be utilized well, but something about that classic, well-patterned "you, and then you" just gets me, you know?

Written actually a month ago for the lovely Harry Potter Fan Fiction Server's Drabble Challenge (topic: a character having a thoroughly Muggle experience.) Lil and angsty, cuz that's the way I roll. 100 words.

There. Just there. The white clicks into blue. Alone in Grimmauld Place, Harry felt his shoulders drop with quiet satisfaction. Warm candlelight played on the pieces he’d spread out across the handsome walnut table. He had grouped them more or less by color—land, water, sky. His finger fit within the grooves like a tongue against a missing tooth. It wasn’t a map. It wasn’t a problem. It was made to be broken and then put back again. He could solve it or bin it, and nobody would care. Every night during the trials, he spent hours on the jigsaw puzzle.

May we all find a few hobbies to distract us from the Horrors. 🧩 💕
