The Eclipse is here!

Thought it would be fun to draw all of the moths in the game, and by all I mean 80% of them because thinking about how to draw M.M. and the Zomoth as well as Kali already makes me tired.

But undercut is very rough sketches of Kali I did for reference for the Kabbu fight drawing I did a bit ago. (She would've been the tallest out of everyone.)

I'm going to briefly go over their designs now.

I thought Neolith was just a generic moth, though after looking up "striped moth" he could be some sort of hawk moth, or its just a design choice. Either way I think I want to change his wing patterns later.

Not very seen well, I think Mothiva would have fake lashes. She has a cute design though.

I don't have much to say on Yin, she looks polite and I think I achieved that here.

I think I referenced the wrong hawk moth for Hawk, but the red accents really does make him look cooler. Gave him a honeycomb pin too.

Screw you all, Tod has gynandromorphism now. Realistically, the change in speices will be defined by a clear line, but I decided to be dotty with so I can still be true the original design.

Wanted to give Muze a more kind motherly vibe in contrast in what I have in mind for Muse.

I don't know how to draw old people, let alone old bugs. Gave grandpa some loose hairs here and there.

Was aiming for Muse to look more like a fighter, and she's leaning for towards the magenta side than pink. Overall wanted to differentiate her from Muze while still looking similar to each other.

“how come you can never look at me in the eye?” keigo asks one day when patrols have ended and it’s just you and him in the office. you’re just a pencil pusher - an assistant and you handle all the paperwork with his rescues. his question raises your shoulders to your ears as if they could shield you from his curiosity. you tuck your chin to your chest as if trying to hide from his prying eyes.

“w-what do you mean?” you thought he wouldn’t have noticed it - keigo was always living in the fast lane and you are has believed you were just another blurred face in the crowd.

how foolish you are in believing in that.

“you never look at me - you talk to everyone else just fine but with me it’s like you clam up or something. how come?” he asks again, voice deep in contemplation and with something else you can’t decipher. without knowing it, you do the very same thing he brought up to you. averting your gaze and focusing on the ground below you can’t settle on what to say lest you reveal what secret your heart carries.

“it’s just…guys like you make me nervous.” you say, voice trembling under his golden gaze. the grin on his face is beyond you, you’ve let down your guard so you can’t see the ravenous way in which his eyes - gold like king midas’ touch and just as greedy as the king himself drink the endearing look on your face.

“guys like me or,” he pauses to wet his lips and smiles ever so charmingly when your eyes raise just in the time to catch the moment of his tongue. yes, hawks is a hero but keigo is a predator just as his namesake. you’re distracted by his plumage just like the rest of the world that you don’t see the talon right above your pretty neck. “just me?”

the wide eyed look you give and the shaky nod that follows are all he needs and the empty office building echos with his laugh as he’s out the window faster than you can blink. as you bring a hand to your face you can only groan, knowing that tomorrow will be miserable filled with his teasing. the hawk circles above its prey three times after all. he’s got time before he’ll swipe down and take you for himself.

I have a lot of feelings about the themes of mha about saving those failed by society, saving those that cannot save themselves and saving those that don't wish to be saved (most of the time all three). Then I have a lot of feelings about Hawks. About how he was failed by hero society and essentially turned into a child solider for the government. How he cannot save himself because he doesn't think he needs saving; no, not him who tries to carry the burden of hero societies sins on his shoulders. About how he refuses to be saved because again, he thinks he's doing well. He thinks he's fine, he thinks he can be the one to sacrifice himself over and over again to prop up those he thinks can save the world. Then I think about Tokoyami and how he is Keigo's Midoriya. The one unwilling to let him die for a cause he was raised to champion. The one who shows up time and time again and says, no you deserve better, I will save you. The one who looks at Hawks the hero and sees Keigo Takami the person. The one who saved the kid society failed. The kid that couldn't really save himself, the kid that refused to be saved. And then I think about Hawks, wingless, beaten, bleeding dragging his body across the ground to pull Tokoyami into his arms just so he could hold him, hug him, comfort him. Then I think about when the battle came to an end, and the bird hero was grounded, he hugged his hero like he used to hug that plushy of Endeavour so long ago. How he now has a new hero and his name is Fumikage Tokoyami.

Mr. Smiley was painting on the side of a building, focusing heavily on his art. Nearby onlookers weren't exactly looking on anymore as they were too busy laughing. His current piece was one of the top Pro Heroes, Hawks. He hummed to himself as he worked. = Hawks soon got a call to check out the area, the distress calls soon interrupted by laughter. “Oh great, this guy.” Hawks rolled his eyes before heading to the area and closing his eyes, using his feathers to “see” the area. Too bad that he couldn’t see the art, otherwise the somewhat vain #2 would be touched. As it was though, he had a job to do.

Clearing his throat as he hovered closer. “Ahem. Shinjiro Hohoemi. Please stop what you’re doing, I’m afraid I need to take you in.” Hawks said as he kept his eyes shut, his feathers hovering around Smiley, keeping an eye on him and also ready to snatch him if he was going to resist. “Please come along quietly, no need to make a scene, right?”

Thoughts on how I write the Commission and their views on Quirkless heroes

I like writing the Commission as not actually caring if there's a Quirkless hero, because I view them as being more interested in having someone easy to manipulate, rather than even necessarily their Quirk. Let's look at for example the two heroes we know were Commission-controlled. And well, then at why they'd be fine with it.

Lady Nagant's Quirk would have some pretty negative connotations. We see her in the flashback where the Commission is making her the offer that her rifle arm is wrapped up. Japan has very stringent gun laws and her Quirk would have a negative association to it (versus the US for example, were it would have had a positive association since Second Amendment). That makes her easy to manipulate, because the Commission is making her an offer she didn't imagine possible; they're going to support her to be a hero. They're not going to treat her like just because her Quirk is literally a gun (note that with Snipe's Quirk he likely *could* use a different weapon than a gun, but if he's younger than Kain [very possible since she's in her late thirties] then the stigma isn't there quite as much for a gun user) she's a future villain or shouldn't be allowed near heroics. Instead they're going to support her, but there's just this one other thing they need her to do...

With Hawks he gets scooped up super young. Like I think we gloss over the fact sometimes he likely wasn't even ten when everything happened. He already had very heroic tendencies, but he was also the son of a villain. His mother and he after his father got arrested (and even honestly before) were extremely impoverished. They were in a garbage situation. Then the Commission comes knocking an offers them a way out, the funds to support themselves and all Hawks has to do is something he already wants to do; to become a hero. He's going to be Commission trained and controlled, but he's also going to get his dream. He's not going to be held back for being the son of a villain, his identity is as good as private, and he's going to be able to do what he's always wanted.

A Quirkless hero!Izuku (or even another person who wants to be a Quirkless hero) is someone who they would view as easy to manipulate. It's unlikely they'd have prior support, it's unlikely that they'd be able to get the sort of mentorship or access to training someone who had a Quirk could have. They could be viewed as being able to have good PR or make for a good story (look! Even if you're Quirkless you too can be a hero!). Yes Quirkless people are a steadily decreasing minority, but it also doesn't really effect the Commission's bread and circuses. If anything it allows for greater distraction, and may even give the Commission a PR boost (look at how supportive we are!).

So yeah, I know a lot of people go with the idea of the Commission being anti-Quirkless hero, but I'd actually argue for the reasons mentioned here that it's just as likely they'd be fine with it.

What's the deal with Leif in the Venom AU? Is he a modern bug or did he get time travelled some other way?

He's a modern bug! He was raised by his grandparents which is why he talks like he's a hundred million years old.

He's married to muse and is a researcher! He studies languages and knows quite a few! He actually knows quite a bit of roach, while not fluent, he is the foremost expert in bugaria.

When Kabbu and Vi go to snakemouth den, instead of getting trapped, they get chased out by the spider. Kabbu knows Leif, and that he's interested in roach stuff and mentioned what they discovered. Leif of course, like any sane person with a special interest, immediately demands that he come on their next incredibly dangerous excursion.

Which of course, is how he gets venomed lol. And yeah, he's red btw. If i made him blue then I'd have to make all of team snakemouth blue.

hawke should’ve had the option to stick up for carver when aveline refuses to give him a chance in the city guard. i feel like it’d really bother them that aveline sees how desperate their family is for coin and still won’t give their brother a job he may well be good at, all because she...what? assumes he’ll buckle under the pressure of answering to somebody? we know that he won’t because if he goes on to join the wardens, carver thrives. i think he could’ve thrived in the kirkwall guard, too.

Now this gang is still a big question mark as we get back to new releases. We have accounted for them in the main fight unfolding at the moment, but their story leaves a lot of untapped potential. The Seraphim are weird. They're much more human than the older Pacifista, we've even seen personality traits in S-Snake. There's also probably some element of growth, I don't see why you'd choose to make them kids. They're something woven into multiple plot threads, having played off of Blackbeard and Koby's stories. Something that's been sidelined but are one of the mysteries of last night. How did we actually subdue them?

Underneath that the Seraphim also give us something that makes a great companion for Bonney in an arc which means you fit nicely in that bubble of holdovers from Wano. Jinbei reacting to S-Shark was such a cool moment from Egghead and really hits at how unsettling these can be. Love Zoro's dig at S-Hawk being too human. That's a pretty fun line to me. If they have signs of a personality...something like the "miracle" we couldn't have with Cindry becomes possible.

I'd watch this gang going forward. They're pretty fierce and we could always play more games with the command hierarchy. With Mars(?) heading in to meet up with York they could simply be unleashed again. One of those nasty surprises could be them already having awakened more of their own consciousness. There's a lot we could still see out of them, and that's not even getting into their questionable development or the other ones we know are out there.
