Faith in the Incarnate Son of God
1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. 2 This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. 3 In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, 4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
6 This is the one who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7 For there are three that testify: 8 the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. 9 We accept human testimony, but God’s testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son. 10 Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. 11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
Concluding Affirmations
13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. 14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
16 If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray and God will give them life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that you should pray about that. 17 All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.
18 We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them. 19 We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one. 20 We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

Stop and Think About It.
Tumblr media
Jehovah gave Joshua and the people of Israel an assignment. He also gave them a promise in Joshua 6:5. That if they obeyed His commands, He would give them the city of Jericho. They obeyed Jehovah’s assignment for them, and He came through. “Shout, for Jehovah has given you the city.”
Are you waiting for a promise from God to be fulfilled in your life, or simply waiting for God to move? Have you ever thought that maybe he’s waiting on you? God fulfilled the children of Israel’s promise, but they had to make their move first. What was the last assignment God gave you? Go back and complete it. See if God won’t move. He’s already promised us the victory (1 John 5:4-5), but it’s time that we make our move.

30th John 18:26 - 29
1 John 5:1 - 5
'To believe in Christ is to believe in His deity, in the power of His death to cleanse us from all sin and to avert the righteous wrath of a Holy Lord. It means that we believe that the love of God is expressed in the fullest measure by the Cross of Christ and that eternal life is experienced only by a faith union with Him, which is the product of His grace, appropriated by faith' Evan Forman
vs 1 -3 Faith is expressed in love. Love - For example -- Choosing not to bear false witness.
Obedience - Evidence of love Psalm 108:8
Jonah disobeyed God, but the wind and waves and the fish didn't.
Commmands being implemented in a legalistic way is burdensome and crushing.
Matthew 11:28 - 30
Victory Overthrowing the world.
vs 4, 5
Jesus at the Cross - Victory over sin, the Devil and the world. We need to stand in that place.
We need to live out the victory.
Galatians 2:20
Jesus has achieved the victory for us. In Christ we are victorius.

1 JOHN S.O.A.P. ~ CHAPTER 5
Tuesday, 4/9/24
SCRIPTURE:
For this is what love for God is: to keep His commands. And His commands are not a burden, ~ 1 John 5:3
OBSERVATION:
His commands - as summed up by Jesus:
Love God with everything I am - heart, mind, body...
Love others as I love myself...
Sometimes this last one says a lot about how I love myself...
...and as His creation, how I think about myself also says a good bit about how I love Him in return...
I s'pose it's me who makes His commands burdensome...
APPLICATION:
Keep His commands...
...not as a burden... a self-imposed burden...
...but as a gift... His gift...
PRAYER: (Including verses 14 and 21)
Father God - Forgive me for placing myself first and not loving You and those around me as I ought... Remind me through Your Holy Spirit of the good gifts You have given through Your commands and through Your Son Jesus... Guard me from self-idolatry and self-righteousness, and give me the confidence to ask according to Your will instead of my own... In Jesus's Name, Father, and in His example... for Your worship and grateful praise...
As always, yours always, in all ways - through His grace...

Believe, Love, and Obey (1 John 5:1-12)
Faith, love, and obedience are words so tightly woven together, that to pull one of them out, is to unravel the whole bunch.

1 John 5, Reed's Version
Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is God’s child, and you can’t love the parent if you don’t also love the child. And so that’s how you know that you love God: that you love His children and obey His commands. That’s what it means to love God: to keep His commands — and His commands aren’t meant to be a burden. To be born again from God is to prevail over the world. And how did we gain this victory over the world? Through our faith.
There are none who prevail over the world except those who believe in Jesus as the son of God. He began his ministry through water and finished it through blood: Jesus Christ. Not just water, but water and then blood. The Spirit agrees with him, because the Spirit is truth. Together, these three teach us: the Spirit, Jesus’s life and Jesus’s death, and they agree with each other. If we accept human testimony, surely we should also accept divine testimony, which is greater since God has testified about His own son. Whoever believes in the son of God has embraced this testimony; but whoever won’t believe God has in effect called Him a liar, since he hasn’t accepted God’s testimony about His son. And this is what God has testified to us — that God has given eternal life to us, and this life comes through His son. Whoever embraces the son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the son does not.
I’ve written to you, you who believe in the son of God, so that you will know for sure that you have eternal life. You see, our confidence with God is such that whenever we pray for anything that’s in line with His will, we know that He listens. And since we know that He listens, we know that we’ll receive from Him whatever we’ve prayed for.
And so, when you see a brother or sister commit a sin, you are to pray and ask God to restore their fullness of life. I’m talking here about mild sin. Some sin is so severe it leads to spiritual death; I’m not saying you have to get involved in such deadly sin. All wrongdoing is sin, but not all sin necessarily leads to spiritual death.
Now, we know that those who have been born again from God don’t go on sinning but rather guard themselves from the influence of evil. We know that we belong to God, even though the rest of the world is in bed with evil. The Son of God has come to give us the ability to have a relationship with the One who is Truth incarnate. So now we dwell with Truth incarnate, God, and with His son Jesus Christ. He is the true God, the source of eternal life.
My dear children, be on your guard against idolatry.

1 JOHN S.O.A.P. ~ CHAPTER 5
Wednesday, 10/5/22
SCRIPTURE:
Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your hearts. ~ 1 John 5:21
OBSERVATION:
Amazing what things sneak in to take God's place in my heart -
Not permanently, but distractedly...
Most are little things - "Oooh... lookit this..."
Some are so recurring - anger or impatience (and Who has more right to impatience me than the Father?), or or worry or having to be right/get my way... and those, too are often little things that I allow to ease in and stand up between me and God...
...and suddenly, my heart-focus has shifted - sometimes so slightly... other times, amazingly so...
Gratefully and thankfully, the Spirit catches my attention (usually), before I get too far off the rails...
...and Jesus is there to remind me, like He did Peter, to return and love God and others, in my human way, as closely as He did in His perfect way...
APPLICATION:
Keep away from ANYTHING that might take God's place in my heart - or mind...
Pay attention to what's easing its way in...
Don't make it all about me - make it all about Jesus and how He'd react... What, after all, would Jesus do...??/
PRAYER:
Father God - Forgive me when I allow things to sneak their way in between You and me - even when, or especially when, I can see them coming. Thank You that Your Spirit acts to cut them off - even after I've allowed them to rule for a short time - and reminds me to come back seeking forgiveness for my willfulness and self-centeredness, In Jesus's amazingly healing and restoring Name, and for Your glory first and only... not mine, but Yours, Father...
Yours - joyfully (and despite my distractions) - in Him for His glory...
