1 JOHN S.O.A.P. ~ CHAPTER 2

Thursday, 4/4/24

SCRIPTURE:

My little children, I am writing you these things so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father — Jesus Christ the righteous one. ~ 1 John 2:1

OBSERVATION:

Is John giving some "wiggle room" here? Again, I'm no theologian...

"...so that I may not sin..." - not a thunderous command telling me that "I shall not sin..."

More like, "that I may not sin... though I may find I do sin from time to time..."?

Not giving permission, mind you...

...but acknowledging I'm human and just may - and will, despite my best efforts...

"But IF anyone does sin..."?

Fortunately for me, it's "whenever" I sin...

I have an advocate - THE Advocate... my Advocate...

Jesus THE Righteous One

APPLICATION:

Rely on my Advocate...

Walk as He walked (Verse 6)

PRAYER:

Forgiving Father God - I confess my sin yet again, thanking Your for Your Son Jesus's advocacy on my behalf, and ask that Your Holy Spirit guide me in walking as Jesus walked so that I may remain in Him throughout my days... In His Name, and for Your praise and worship...

~ +/- Verse 6: The one who says he remains in Him should walk just as He walked.

It is always difficult to be Christian Truth Annointed Remain/Continue/Abide Belong

vs 21 - 24 The last days - between His ascension and when He will return. Antichrist - An idea, counterfeits, antibiblical opinion - Against Christ - Counterfeit experience of Jesus - It is in this world What difference does it make what you believe? - It makes all the difference. To deny Jesus is to deny God.

Gospel Box Jesus is the Son of God. The Bible is the Word of God. All people are sinners - unable to help themselves. The only way one can be saved is through faith in Christ. Christ died as man's substitute on the cross, and rose again from the dead. The Holy Spirit indwells true believers. One day in the future Jesus will come again.

The key question: Who is Jesus Christ? 1 John 4:2

True profession - acknowledge that His Son came in the flesh.

Anoint vs 26, 27

Set aside for a special task. We have been annointed by the Holy Spirit

Remain/Continue/Abide vs 24 The truth of Christ needs to be be etched into our minds and spirits.

Hold on to the Truth.

Whereever we look, we have hope. 'No matter in which direction a Christian looks, he finds a reason to obey God. If he looks back, he sees Calvary, where Christ died for him. SCRIPTURE:

My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate Who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the One Who is truly righteous. He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world. ~ 1 John 2:1-2

OBSERVATION:

IF anyone sins... more like WHEN anyone sins - when I sin (because I do)...

I have an advocate Who pleads my case before the Father - Jesus...

He Himself is the sacrifice that atones for my sins - as well as the world's...

APPLICATION:

- Remember my advocate...

- Rely on Him... not on my "behavior" but on His pleading...

PRAYER:

Father God – Your continued grace in the face of my continued sinfulness is beyond my understanding. And yet I have come to rely on You and You alone when Your Spirit reminds me I have taken things into my own hands. Thank You for Jesus’s nail-scarred hands that allow me come before You confessing my disobedience and praising Your holiness as Your forgiven one… In Jesus’s saving Name, and for Your glory and honor in all I say and do…

Yours – gratefully and joyfully – in Him…
