#surskit #now THIS guy. very underrated pokémon. the little blush? cute. the blue? cute. the spike on their head? cute. the whole concept of surskit #is cute. and there's this one video of like serena tossing out a surskit and then they just go “a” and it zooms out #and plays gen 8 encounter music and it's a very good video. if y'all've seen it before you know what i mean. for the rest of you #well i don't know what to tell you. i don't know much about this pokémon outside of that because i kinda started liking it when i saw that #video to be QUITE honest. i don't even know what type it is for sure—bug/water? and i sure as hell don't remember what they evolve into #yeah ok i was right. and they evolve into masquerain. not a ton of continuity colors and design wise but i like Get it. the whole bug thing #i suppose i just prefer pokémon that are visually traceable #but my paws are very cold typing this so i'm gonna wrap this up and take my meds. happy surskit day #and also happy pride month! i'm queueing this up on june 2nd. my power went completely out last night #which was awesome for pride month (lie). it was a very good time (lie)

Nimona's origin story - or lack of one - is so important to me. like first she lies to you, then there's a weird metaphor that may or may not have anything to do with her, then finally at the very end there's a real flashback which clarifies. almost nothing?? EXCEPT perhaps it leads you away from the possibility that she's being possessed. personally my thinking is that she was born as a "regular" shapeshifter and became this colossal monster after she was "lab-modified." but i can't say that with any confidence, maybe the monster was part of her all along and the trauma just brought it out. maybe nimona herself doesn't know.

as frustrating as it felt to read at times, the ambiguity is the whole point. it's a commentary on how society (specifically christianity) will look at something it doesn't understand and try to stuff it into boxes it just doesn't fit in.

the whole "gloreth's beast" metaphor is so insane to me because it confuses you as the reader and makes you wonder if maybe nimona IS actually this satanic creature, or possessed by him. despite all your good intentions and your fondness for nimona as a character, there's a part of you which wonders if it might be true, because the author himself is implying it to you. it's only at the end that nate hints otherwise but still he leaves it up to the audience to wrestle with their own interpretation of what they've just read. i don't think i figured it out until the part where it says nimona's parents believed a monster had taken the place of their daughter.. i was like oohhhh i see what you did there

i've heard it said that nimona is a commentary on how society views lgbt+ people as a threat and i do think that sums it up nicely but. it's a story about how religion views queer people as a threat, how conservative christians stay in power by labeling us as the enemy, and how they get us to internalize this queerphobia so that we lose the will to rebel against them. it's about how oppressors have no say in how people take their stolen freedom back.

ITS ABOUT bipolar disorder and mental illness!!!! and the prejudice & discrimination & outcasting this community endures, which intersects uniquely with queerphobia and is still used today to characterize being gay and trans as mental disorders, as if that somehow justifies the hatred in their minds.

it's about addressing the fear & confusion surrounding the existence of queer people - "are they born this way? are they possessed by satan? are they mentally ill? are they a product of childhood trauma?" and Nimona is essentially like, sure. all of the above. or none of them. who cares? i'm here and i'm a human being - you don't have to understand me to treat me like one.

idk how/if the nimona movie plans to handle the ambiguity of her origin but its so so important i hope they're able to honor the spirit of it 😭🙏

Although we don’t know the exact details behind the central conflict of Across the Spiderverse and it could very well be an intentional trailer misdirect, I think the possibility of Miles having to save one of his parents at the risk of the multiverse has strong potential to challenge the deeply rooted idea that tragedy and sacrifice define Spider-Man as a character. Much of Spider-Man media suggests that Spider-Man absolutely has to give up his loved ones and personal life for the sake of his duties, an idea that’s so ingrained culturally that many people weren’t satisfied with the MCU’s Peter Parker until No Way Home literally everything away from him. And while this is a staple of the character for a reason and even the first Spiderverse movie delves into the idea of getting back up from major loss, the new Spiderverse movie looks like it might offer the much more optimistic perspective that you don’t have to lose everything to wear the mask. Miguel sees himself as the protector of destiny, and most likely having lost a loved one himself, fully believes that Miles’ losses are set in stone for the good of the multiverse. But Miles has never been one to follow the narrative. He was bitten by a spider not of his world and went beyond the expectations of others by doing things his own way. He defines his own path and will fight to keep both the multiverse and his happiness alive, no matter how much he’s told he can’t have both.

#the other alternative to this plot is Miles does end up losing his parent #which I’m not outright rejecting #but I would hope it’s done with a bit more complexity #also there’s the popular theory that Miles actually has to save the Spot #bc he’s a threat to the multiverse and Miguel wants to kill him #which is valid and has some potential #but I think I’d be bored of the plotline considering it was literally just done in No Way Home lol #I got faith in the creative crew whatever they go with #June 2nd pls come faster #Across the spiderverse #across the spider-verse #into the spiderverse #Spider-Man #Spiderman #Miles Morales #Peter Parker #meta #spiderverse #theory #across the spider verse #into the spider verse #Miguel o’hara #marvel
