Killer x Reader | Retrouvailles
Tumblr media
Retrouvailles:
[ʀ(ə)tʀuvɑ] {noun}
1. reunion; 2. to find someone again; 3. the happiness of meeting someone very dear to you after a long time apart.
You were asleep thanks to the medication you got earlier this morning. You’ve been worried about Killer and Kid for so long you could barely sleep, and even if you took naps, you had nightmares and kept waking up. Nothing having any news from them for days was getting you worried sick.
; You didn’t even hear the noises, yelling and cheering from the crew. However, you felt someone lying in bed next to you. Afraid of being an enemy, the last thing you needed now, you jumped out of bed in a second, but when you looked at the person, even with only the candle light, you could see it was your boyfriend.
He was completely different from the last time you saw him. Now, his face and arms were covered in bandages, his hair was up, he wasn’t wearing his mask, and even his clothes were completely different. Still in shock, you jumped back on the bed and hugged him. Crying happy tears for knowing he was alive and finally back, but still confused on what happened to him. You kissed his lips many times, and to your surprise, the man started laughing.
You didn’t expect this reaction from him, not just because of the situation, but because he hated his laugh. He avoided laughing even if you spent the whole day trying to make jokes to make him at least giggle. It took him so long to finally laugh in front of you, and even then, it was accidentally and he felt extremely embarrassed.
When you looked at him tilting your head and with a puzzled expression, you could see his eyes were full of tears. He was crying at the same time.
— Baby, what happened? — you whispered, concerned about what was going on with him. He didn’t seem like his normal self.
When the man stopped laughing after a minute while you caressed his face and dried his tears, he began to tell everything that happened for the past couple of months. How he had to eat a SMILE to try to save Kid; that in Wano, he was known as Kamazo, the Manslayer; the duel with Zoro; and of course, that Apoo and Hawkins had betrayed the crew. You felt your blood boil, and you just wanted to cut Orochi’s and Kaido’s heads off or burn Hawkins and Apoo. You were angry, thirsty for blood now.
But Killer’s calloused hands touched your face as a reassuring gesture and bringing you back to reality.
— Don’t worry, love, I know what you’re thinking about. We’ll get Kaido’s head, Kid will. — he said in between laughs, feeling ashamed right away. — Shit, I… I’m sorry. I really am.
Your heart clenched. You realized the revenge could wait, but now you needed to hold Killer, to give him love and comfort. He’s been through a lot, he needed you now.
— Killer, don’t worry. — you replied, kissing his lips softly before smiling trying to reassure the man. — Don’t apologize, I love your laugh anyway. You know that.
You hid your face on the crook of his neck, kissing it trying not to cry. Killer could be vicious at time, he was called Massacre Soldier Killer for a reason, but with you, he could be soft. He was a different person when it was just the two of you. You knew he was sweet, caring and kind. He didn’t deserve what Kaido did. In fact, no one did. People from Wano didn’t deserve what was happening with them.
You noticed there was also some bruises and his bandages had blood too, some of them from the fight with the swordsman from the Strawhat Pirates.
— Do you want to shower so I can take care of your wounds? — you asked, playing with his hair. He nodded.
— Please, stay with me, though. I don’t want to be away from you now.
— Of course. — you placed a soft kiss on his chest. — Let’s go.
While you prepared the bath, Killer removed his clothes and bandages carefully.
You were out of the tub, helping him bathe. You washing his hair while his eyes were closed, relaxing and enjoying our small hands touching and massaging his scalp. All he could feel was relief and comfort. Killer thought he’d never see you or feel you ever again, and to be honest, while everyone told you to remain positive, it was your biggest fear too.
His hair was tangled, so you worked on that, taking all the time needed while the warm water and your hair products helped with the process. It was something you liked doing while bathing together anyway, it felt so domestic and even intimate. It showed how much he trusted you, especially with the fact that he really didn’t like showing his face.
Killer could be ruthless, although not as much as Kid, and still had a reputation, but you used to spoil him so much if you could. In private, you kissed his face, as a reminder that you loved his appearance; you played with his hair; helped him bathe when he was injured, and even gave him massages after a long day.
You helped him remove his now smudged makeup, cleaned the blood off him, and gently cleaned his bruises, being careful not to hurt him more. When you were done, you took his hand and kissed it before handling him a towel.
You two went back to your shared room. Killer dried himself and changed into his clothes, while you got some medical supplies. After bandaging him, you brushed his hair before you two lied in bed again.
After so long, you’d be able to sleep better again knowing that the love of your life was safe next to you, it was your time to make him feel protected. And although Killer wouldn’t get over what happened to him, at least not so easily, finally being with the woman he loved the most helped giving him the strength, comfort and peace that he needed so much now. He was so happy to be back. ღ

just the things i like, 1030 spoilers (kid, law, marco, other stuff)
Drake and Apoo not out of the game is fun
Tumblr media
And, genius, Oda. I did not think of this. Kinemon’s detached lower half
Tumblr media
lets us know that this dude is still alive too:
Tumblr media
As does Apoo also being alive, but more importantly:
Tumblr media
O-Kiku, my beloved. BUT what I really like are our two sexy geriatric dudes (though mere whippersnappers on the OP timeline) here:
Tumblr media
Marco, looking fine there, man. And Izou’s doing alright (blasting away). Guess Marco got his strength back a few chapters ago. And well, if Kawamatsu’s your thing.
Of course Kanjuro (his character is fascinating. Like the emptiest of vessels is the evilest of conductors?) decides to just send everything to a burning hell in a hand basket (at Orochi’s behest).
Tumblr media
BUT
I really love Marco above (oh, and Yamato runs through the castle like a pretty fox wolf), but come on KidLaw Nation!
Now, y’all know that I’m MarcoLaw, first and foremost, and I’m also strongly ZoLaw, but right now Oda is playing into KidLaw lando, and I’m not adverse to it.
Also, it was Law’s sloppy workmanship that saved Kin’emon. Ah, so our perfectionist head canons (one I don’t really share, but I can see where it comes from), aren’t always backed up by the official release (surprise). Guess he might have been a bit tired after the events of Punk Hazard. (Edit in: it has been pointed out that Kin is either shifting the blame here from himself or the Strawhats :-))
Tumblr media
And let’s not forget these scary dudes on the move:
Tumblr media
Although Brook and Robin have their own brand of fear too. Wonder why the colour of the arrow changes to grey. Anyway. That’s my arrow over CP0′s heads. Not part of the scans.
BUT BUT BUT Marco is absolutely fine. And Killer copped a beating last chapter only for this to happen:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
BUT never fear, because Law and Kid
had a secret flashback tête-à-tête (and as if I know where all the accents go. Thank you, dictionary).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
FIRST, they test their abilities out or have conversations about them on the by and by (or in the midst of battle). [Maybe this exchange went on while Momo ripped up the castle floors).
SECOND, Law is willing to DIE for his man. (Now, I don’t recommend this. And ZoLaw is my bigger ship, BUT, Oda’s toying with you, guys...).
I mean, KidLaw is the original ship with this dude. Let’s keep going. I’m just going to put the coloured pages in, and I’ll put the link in the comments, cos you know how tumblr gets about links.
Tumblr media
Kid’s is the same. SO, both of these guys are at death’s door right now, which doesn’t bode well. BUT, they’re not exactly doing it for each other (well, I might argue that Law’s doing it for Kid), but they’re definitely working as a team. And I want to know about these Awakening conversations the supernova have.
Like, what if people confused it for a fundamental religious gathering and there’s all these guys (and one gal) sitting in a room showing their party tricks and trying to get to the next level. It could be like a poetry slam, and about as interesting. The next one to take the mic! No Luffy! Put the mic back. You’re not literally meant to take it.
Anyway, not only do we get insight into their power and their awakened power, looks like Big Mom is in trouble.
Tumblr media
The translator’s note says that the kana says ‘wille’ where it says ‘wave’ above. German for ‘will’. I’m guessing that Brad there is a mistranslation of ‘Brat’, although it could be the way that Big Mom is speaking. (It has been pointed out, probably effects of the anaesthesia or the attack in general).
Tumblr media
And:
Tumblr media
LOVE. “Don’t tell me what to do.” Law’s taking care of his man, and his man’s relying on him to do so. Only he’s not doing it fast enough. BUT, maybe they did hit their limit. I’ve got a feeling that a mythical Japanese Wolf might cushion their fall.
Tumblr media
Who said Kid wasn’t a team player? Maybe it’s only when Luffy and Apoo (and Hawkins) are the choices.
Also, the castle is on fire. Kanjuro added fuel to the fire. And there’s a bunch of explosives in the cellar, or basement or wherever. And it’s bound to crash into the flower capital in a matter of minutes?
Got a kinda meta out  there on the possibilities of meanings for kroom (if it’s kept in the official translation). Will link later.

Eustass Kid | Sorrow
Pairing: Eustass Kid x female reader
Notes: Mentions of death, and injuries.
Word Count: 2k
Tumblr media
Killer was the first to hear the dreadful news, he was making his way down the street to the local bar where he was to meet back up with Kid. He heard a hushed conversation between two gentlemen and at first, he thought it was just another made up rumor. There’s simply no way that the Raven Pirates were dead. Their captain, (Y/n), is apart of the Worst Generation and has proven many times over, that she’s worthy of that title not only to the government but especially to Eustass and his crew.
It wasn’t until one of the men spoke about a fight that involved two Admirals that made the Killer’s blood run cold. He remained hidden and waited for any possible truth in the conversation. The names Aokiji and Kizaru came up a few times and that was enough for Killer to grab both men and drag them to his Captain. He knew, in the pit of his stomach he knew that something happened. If any part of the rumor turns out to be true, his captain is going to want blood and so will the rest of the crew. One simply doesn’t harm Kid’s beloved.
The Kid Pirates soon found themselves sailing off to a winter island in the New World. Kid and Killer were able to get more information from the two men at the market before Kid destroyed the town in a furious rage. There was suspicion about an informant that tipped off the location of the Raven’s to the Government. A fight had already broken out between Pirates and Marines before the Admirals made it to the island. It was an easy win for the pirates until the Admirals showed. They don’t have the details, but the fight took a gruesome turn and many pirates lost their lives. No report has been made yet by the Government, at least not publicly. Which in turn means no record of who’s alive or dead.
Kid always said that he would be the one to kill them someday. (Y/n), the captain, got under his skin like no other. They both live bold and fearless lives and often they came into contact on the seas as enemies. That was before the incident with the Red Hair Pirates.
It was (Y/n) who managed to keep Kid alive after losing his arm. She allowed him and his crew to recover on a winter island that the Raven’s use as a second home. It was then the relationship between the two captains began to shift. She would often check on the man, get him anything he needed, and most importantly, told him not to stop chasing after what he wants most.
It became evident that previous and new threats held no real weight to them. They still fought like cats and dogs, but it was different. The crewmates on either side saw what was forming between them and knew it was going to be a long road ahead before either side could truly rest. It turned into a long and agonizing game of who would fall victim to their feelings first.
Ultimately (Y/n) was the first to fall, she grew tired of all the pent-up emotions and grabbed Kid by his signature coat and pulled him down to her height and kissed him. It stroked Kid’s ever-growing ego that he did not give in first and he paraded around the island as if he found the One Piece for weeks. With the warm memory in thought, he breaths a heavy sigh as he watches the passing sea. “You’re fine… you have to be.”
Starring out at the vast number of graves of the fallen crewmember, (Y/n) stood in the middle of a snowstorm. It’s been a total of three days since the lost of her crew. All but two members perished by the hands of the Admirals. It took two days to make it to their island and another to bury and lay them to rest, but she promised them she’d bring them back home.  “Please Captain (Y/n.) You need to warm up and rest. It won’t do you any good if you freeze to death out there” the voice yelled across the field of snow. Instantly whipping her head around, glaring at the last remaining crewmate.
The words “freeze to death” played over and over in the captain’s head. That’s exactly what Aokiji did. He froze them to death while Kizaru pinned (Y/n) to the ground and made her watch as the other shattered her crewmates into pieces. Tears roll down her redden checks as she looks over at the graves for the last time tonight and whispers a “goodnight.”
(Y/n) makes the slow tread back towards the warmth of the building. The injuries and cold catching up to her. “Sorry about the choice of words Captain, you need to rest. You’re heavily injured and you shouldn’t be out in that storm in your condition.” Avisa, the youngest and newest member of the crew being only eighteen, covers her captain with her own coat and holds the door open. Avisa was incredibly lucky to be mostly unharmed after what they went through. “We should probably change your bandages and disinfect them again… has your eyesight changed?”
(Y/n) groans from shifting the coat open and revealing the endless bandages wrapped around her body. “It’s… it’s as good as it’s going to get, I’m afraid. I lost about half the sight in my left eye.” The young girl shifts around, grabbing more bandages and disinfectant before settling in front of the captain and unpeeling the dirty bandages from the wounds earning a whimper of pain.
“Wait, before you start with the disinfecting, I could use a drink.”
“Sure thing Captain, I’ll go fetch you some water.” Just as the girl began to move a loud boisterous laughter bounces around the walls of the otherwise quiet room. The two women jump from their seated positions at the voice of a man. “She means booze girlie” the voice snickers. (Y/n) pushes the girl behind her and does her best to seem threating but it’s proving to be hard in her state. This nearly makes the man laugh again but he gets a glance at the wounds scattered across her body.
The outside lighting does little to show who’s at the door and it wasn’t until the man spoke again that (Y/n) recognized who was there. “Take it easy doll” Kid spoke, hand in the air stepping inside. “Kid” her voice wavers. Taking a few steps towards him but stops and clutches her side in pain. His smile falters as he crosses the room to grab her and keep her upright.
He’s familiar with the layout and takes her to a bed in the closest bedroom. “Sit before you bleed all over the floor.” He walks out the room to motions for the rest of his crew to come inside. Killer follows his captain back into the bedroom to inspect (Y/n’s) wounds. Avisa, with a bottle of opened booze sitting on the table, had already unwrapped her wounds and had proceeded to disinfect her wounds.
There’s deep bruising along her ribs on the right, followed by three holes no doubt left by Kizaru, scatter over her torso. The worse being on her left shoulder. Kid grabs the bottle on the table and takes a generous swing before offering her more. “I did my best to stitch the wounds with what we had, I’m pretty sure her ribs are broken. She was…” the young girl had to stop keep herself from crying. Killer, as gentle as he could muster, touched the swollen and bruised area earning a sharp intake of air followed by a cry of pain.
“I’d say three are broken and the rest are just bruised. What did you use for stitches? I see a few places that need to be touched up.” The masked man turns away from (Y/n) to talk to Avisa. “Horsehair. There’s a small ranch not too far from here.” He nods in thought, “we’re going to need more.” The pair leave the room to go retrieve more supplies and to fill in the rest of Kid’s crew on her condition.
Kid looks around for something to cover her body and he spots (Y/n’s) coat, or rather what’s left of it. It was a beautiful thick, long coat, jet black in color, and made of raven feathers, now it’s barely recognizable. It’s a lot smaller in length now from being ripped. More feathers decorate the floor than the actual fabric. It also mirrors the holes littered in (Y/n). It was a gift to her from him. “Say something please.”
Kid looks over with an unreadable expression and shrugs off his coat and walks over. His hand traces over the new scars and wounds that littered across her. He pays extra care to the open wounds before his amber eyes meet hers. He brushes the hair out of her face to get a better look. Half of her left eye is clouded over with a faint scar to go with it. He knows now isn’t the time to get angry, but all he wants to do is tear the bastards heads off for hurting her. He can’t even begin to imagine what it feels like to lose her crew on top of everything.
He takes a deep breath, something she has told him numerous times to do, and thinks back to what she said to him when he was in a similar situation. “It uh… adds character.” (Y/n) laughs until she feels the pain in her ribs. Kid scowls at her before dropping himself on the bed and his coat on her to cover her up. “Thank you for trying to cheer me up.” He makes a “tsk” sound before telling her to shut up. She grabs his hand and plays with his fingers to calm her nerves. “It was planned.”
“What?”
“It was Scratchmen Apoo who told the Admirals where we were headed. Had to be. He was trailing us for a couple days and when the Marines spotted us, they let him go.” A stray tear falls down her cheek before she can wipe it away. “We we’re cornered into an island, so we abandoned ship for the time being and fought. We were fine until those bastards showed. They started to take us down one by one. Kizaru trapped me underneath him and held me in place. Made me watch.” Kid wiped away her flowing tears and placed a long kiss to her hair. He’s never wanted to hurt someone so bad in his entire life. Forcing her to watch. “It was Avisa who saved me. And to think I almost didn’t let her join… she shot them with sea stone bullets.”
The anger rolling from Eustass can probably be felt in the next room. He recently formed an alliance with Apoo and was already having his own issues with the man. This is the final piece straw that broke the camels back. Kid knows he can’t be trusted, and he need to be brought to an end. “I’ll make them all pay!”
Kid jumps up ready to storm out and take his frustrations out on whatever he can get ahold of but (Y/n) speaks up just as he’s at the door frame. “I want to be apart of taking them down. I need to. For the sake of my crew.” Kid turns around and stomps into your direction and places a heated kiss on your lips.
“Hurry up and get better, because your sailing with me.”

One Piece Chapter 1023 - Initial Thoughts
Tumblr media
15 Minutes is on the clock
Onigashima reaches the mainland and the fights continue on. Including the Wings of the King vs the Disasters of the Beast
Without further ado, let's get into it
Spoilers for Chapter 1023, Support the Official Release too
Vivi cover page is nice, proper Disney Princess action with Karoo being jealous birb again, but now I have worries because last we heard something went down with Alabasta...all those post-Reverie questions
Back to where we left off with the boys being back in town
Miyagi can you not ominously foreshadow Zoro's future pain please?
Kawamatsu's here to save Zoro from interference, and Hyou's telling the Yakuza not to get in the way of this fight
Marco though is a pensive Pineapple, taking a good long look at King as he recalls Whitebeard telling him about King's race living on the Red Line before the world nobles, Void Century and before stuff
Mention of Gods does fuel one of my old post fan theories, but also fuels that the WG kicked King's race out of the Red Line
Izo though out here saving Marco from being an easy target, tbh Marineford did show he was prone to a surprise attack
Asking Izo if they believe in God though in a raid that may lead to their deaths is kinda irreverent right now though huh?
Queen back to hyping themselves up though
Hm? Is there a limitation to Sanji's raid suit? Sanji's saying he feels weird
Zoro wasting no time to banter with it though, saving Sanji from King as Sanji returns the favour with Queen
Queen does make a valid point though, as much as Sanji expresses that he is unenhanced by Germa he can also set himself on fire, I do wonder if it is just part of that enhancement in there that he expresses as his 'fiery hot passion'
Lunarian though, that must be King's species' name: moon people again I bet which feeds my fan theories
Also since we mentioned Germa again what happened to them? Jimbei made it out after all and I wanna see me some alive and well Baeju
I would issue doubt on Queen's claim that their enhancements are beyond Vegapunk's, given how little we know of Vegapunk after all
King's got a special sword too, it can change its edge to be teethy which he used to ensnare Zoro's swords
Wado saves Zoro's face from eating King's spiked fist though
King does make a fair point though, traditional weapons are romanticized but a fight's about getting every advantage you can, Zoro at least respects that since King never claimed to be a Swordsman, while also reminding King that he could be a feral bastard too
Kinda gave me mini Mr. 1 fight vibes there
Oh here we go, potential Zoro lineage time
Kawamatsu and Hyou muse over how Zoro was like Ushimaru when he was young, even down to his style (though that could be more Shimotsuki Koushiro's doing since he's Zoro's master)
Also Ushimaru was Ryuma's direct descendant, which means that 1. Ryuma banged, 2. Swordsmanship runs in the blood and 3. Ryuma banged
Also Ryuma also had the one eye, and it does seem pretty mythical that a swordsman of similar skill and stature returns Shusui back to Wano (even though this should mean that Shusui would be Zoro's birthright and he was kinda forced into relinquishing it)
Also worth reminding that Kozaburo was Kuina's grandpa so there may only be loose relations if Zoro is a Shimotsuki too, we don't exactly know how Kozaburo and Ushimaru are related if it's by blood or clan, plus I still wonder about Tashigi
Over to Jack vs Inu though, and Jack's hybrid form is just...weird
I did not need to see an Elephant head with abs you know Oda!
Both are pretty tired, as Jack mocks Inu saying he has forgiven Zou for the Raizo stuff, since he already destroyed most of it
Inu though with the shoulder toss, reminding Jack that they had to make these sacrifices to get to here
But we're getting the epic speech, and the hole in the roof caused by Ashura's sacrifice is changing Inu back into Su Long
Same thing is happening with Neko, turning Su Long in front of Carrot and Wanda (who I guess are covering from the moon) as he stares down Perospero
And I'm glad Neko's pointing out that Pedro's sacrifice is valid. I truthfully always felt a bit iffy about people saying that Carrot's desire to avenge Pedro was ill-found because 'Pedro killed himself'. Had Pedro not sacrificed himself then Brook and Chopper would've been dead by candy and Big Mom would've obliterated the rest on the ship
Raizo and Megaforehead though prelude with the mention of maturity, that everyone - even the Akazaya - needed time to mature into who they wanted to be
Down to the surface though and the Heart Pirates are on high alert/panic, they think Kaido's here
But it's Momo, and he looks magnificent
Shinobu's aged him up to 28, the age he'd be had he not been leapt through time, but now she's upset he looks like Kaido
There's new fire in Momo's eyes though, the return ascent begins!
Can you feel that? It feels like the last stretch before the ultimate battle of Wano
Sanji and Zoro vs King and Queen hopefully will remain a tag bout, but I am curious as to King's abilities and what's affecting Sanji in terms of the raid suit. It's not bad to have a limitation but this is the first we've heard of it after seeing him use it 4 times. I don't hate Zoro being a Shimotsuki, though I do feel like we could've built to this, plus we're still lacking in the how.
One wonders what role Marco will now play, and whether Tiny Tiny Chopper is due to recover. We haven't heard from the others for a bit, nor CP0 nor Yamato. Our Pineapple does have unfinished business with Edward Weevil tbf so he could make it out, Izo may be a variable in that, they've yet to learn of Kiku's fate.
Also we never did see who that mystery person was did we? Still could be Hiyori
Marco's musing about gods does feel like we're gonna get more about King, and more lore of the world that Robin will love to soak up like a sponge, Oda have been leaving these seeds since Skypeia, and where there are Gods, there are Devils.
We are however getting major death flags from the minks, one last turn to Su Long to enable their efforts. I like how Ashura's sacrifice is not in vain because of this though, it makes me wonder if there's a slither of hope for Kin and Kiku. If anything though the minks will die from exhaustion rather than being defeated, Su Long eats away at you after all, it's probably gonna be traumatizing for Carrot a little but I hope we see some resolve out of her more like when she was in Zou and WCI, I still want her for Nakama.
And then the final coup de grace, giant dragon Momo, it's one hell of a panel and it means we're bringing Luffy back into the fight. But the extent of Momo's ripening is only in body remember, in mind he's still young. But now we have the setup for the final fight between Luffy and Kaido, I'll expect in that time we'll have to try and finish off everything else with the Akazaya, reconvening the Straw Hats, King, Queen, Big Mom, Kid, Law, Killer, Hawkins, Apoo and Drake.
Act's not over yet, less than 15 minutes until Onigashima Falls.

Outlook: just some rich shithead
Moria: a fan of creepypasta and wanted the irl version
Orochi: if he's still alive I'm going to so deeply wish he wasnt
Garp: crusty old man

629: "Violent Shock! Incredible News that Shakes the New World!"
Tumblr media
A rocky old place, ain’t it? No white sand beach resorts here. Lots of sunflowers, though. And a Colosseum. Even trattorias and quaint cobbled streets, according to the preview.
This is Italy, isn’t it?
Only had time for one episode but that wasn’t a problem at all. Thankfully, there was a lot to unpack in 629, plus more highlights than
There was the return of Thriller Bark. Updates on the whereabouts of key OP figures. Luffy yelling down the line at Doflamingo. The reveal of why Law is set on sailing to Dressrosa. Why Kinemon is also keen to go. The arrival of new villains. The reveal of Doflamingo’s cunning plan to snare Luffy. And the reshuffling of the Shichibukai and the appointment of a VERY FAMILIAR CLOWN.
I’m still laughing, btw.
Also have to say I liked the new opening. Seemed spoiler free and it was interesting that they have pitted Luffy so openly against Blackbeard (and Akainu, I suppose. Now there are two Big Bads. Actually beginning to wonder if there ever will be a Final Villain in One Piece).
They Call Him Scoop McGee Absalom
Tumblr media
The action picked up with the immediate aftermath of Doflamingo’s resignation from his throne and the post of Shichibukai, which sent ripples through the OPverse. Now the protection conferred by Doflamingo’s Shichibukai status had vanished, his subjects lamented, “Dressrosa is done for!”
Elsewhere, an unwinnable war raged. Unwinnable because the side in question had struck a deal with the Donquixote family. Now Doflamingo is no longer king, the supply chain has dried up.
Various famous faces who had grabbed newspapers were next. Jewelry Bonney was a nice surprise! I thought she’d been arrested by the Marines after that whole thing on the burning island with Teach. She’s obviously in hiding (standard hooded cloak) but still in action. That’s good. There was also a brief shot of Jimbei and Crocodile’s hook.
But who was the mysterious journalist behind the leaking of the Strawhearts alliance? The Kidd/Hawkins/Apoo Alliance? The fact Doflamingo had resigned both throne and warlord role?
He is known only by the name Absa.
I would have struggled to predict who Absa might have been, had they not shown a tiny Thriller Bark satellite ship.
It’s obviously Absalom. Invisibility is his thing. He’s obviously been sneaking about. For what purpose, I have no clue. Maybe Moria is out for revenge? I’m pretty certain he’s still alive as Doflamingo said he disappeared in front of his eyes. I like the thought of Moria getting angry enough to come back into the limelight. (I’m still crossing my fingers he’ll help Luffy and Law with Kaidou. Moria definitely has enough of a grudge to do it.)
We also got hard confirmation that Kidd and co. are after a Yonko. Their target is as much of a mystery to me as Luffy and Law’s is to them. (I still think it might be Shanks.)
I love it when Oda takes time to set his arcs within a wider context. Even more so now. It’s especially relevant here, given the recent emphasis on the interconnected nature of the New World.
And speaking of connections...
Hello. Is it Caesar You’re Lookin For?
Tumblr media
Once the contextualisation was out of the way, the action cut back to Sunny. At the end of 628, Doflamingo had finally picked up (after deliberately making Law wait to ramp up the tension. The theme of control is strong with this one).
Of course, Luffy had to formally introduce himself.
“HELLO. I AM LUFFY. I WILL BECOME PIRATE KING. OI, MINGO!” I love Luffy has already given him a nickname. “So you’re that idiot Caesar’s boss? That bastard hurt Brownbeard and the kids! We’ll give Caesar back since we promised but if he ever does anything like that again--” at this point Caesar himself was cringing hard in a corner “-- I’ll beat the crap out of you too!”
To his credit, Doflamingo did not rise to the bait. Sure, a few veins pop and he does questionable things when angered, but in negotiations, he remains cool as a cucumber.
“Strawhat... two years have passed since your brother died and you disappeared from the New World. Where were you and what were you doing?”
At that point, I never realised the significance of Doflamingo’s reference to Ace, so I just thought he was getting a, “Lol, ur brother is ded” dig in.
Of course, Luffy wouldn’t tell.
“I was hoping to run into you,” Doflamingo continued. “I’ve got something here that would make you drool.”
Since Luffy doesn’t do metaphors, he thought Doflamingo was talking about high-quality meats. To be fair, I had no idea what Doflamingo had up his sleeve at that point, so it could have been high-quality meats for all I knew.
Law was annoyed that Luffy had given Doflamingo the chance to control the conversation and snatched the DDM.
“Joker, we will hand over Caesar as promised.”
Doflamingo is not dumb, though. “That’s wise. You know well what would happen to you if you backed out now. First thing’s first, though. I want to confirm that my vital business partner is safe.”
Law held up the receiver. Caesar scooted over.
“JOOOOOOOKEEEEEERRR, I’M SORRYYYYYYYYYYY! YOU LOST EVERYTHING BECAUSE OF ME, BAWWWWWWW--”
And Doflamingo was like, “Yup. Sounds like he’s fine.”
I lol’d at that. (Was that a lowkey burn from Doflamingo?)
Law continued to keep matters strictly business. “In eight hours we will be on Green Bit. We’ll drop off Caesar there. Pick him up yourself. We will make no further contact.”
“Awwww...” Doflamingo retorted. “And I wanted to have a drink with you now you’re all grown up--”
At that moment, Luffy decided the conversation was at an end.“JUST HANG UP ALREADY!”
He cut the connection. The Strawhearts were left alone on deck to process what had just happened. Sanji was smart about a loophole Law had left in negotiations. Law had never specified how many people could accompany Doflamingo to pick up Caesar. Theoretically, Doflamingo could arrive with an army at his back.
Law wasn’t worried. The Caesar handover was just a distraction. (Rather bold of him to discuss this in front of Caesar himself, by the way.) Destroying the Smile factory was the real mission. The only issue? Law has no info on the factory. I’m assuming they’ll have to infiltrate Dressrosa and locate the place.
Luffy was like, “You ever been to Dress Roba?” (Lmao, I’m sure he’ll get the name right eventually.)
Interestingly, Law said he had never been! There go my theories of Law growing up in Dressrosa and working for Doflamingo. :(
He definitely hates Doflamingo, though. His reasons for not stepping foot on Dressrosa? “He is king of that land.” Something has gone on between them in the past. Doflamingo has known Law since he was a kid. So did Vergo. What is the connection here??
At any rate, Luffy was blase about the whole affair. Infiltrating hostile territory to find and destroy a factory that will cause shit to hit the fan and draw the ire of the entire New World? Yeah, let’s just make up a plan as we go!
For Law, who is a clever, patient and careful man, this was just too much.
As the Strawhats filed past him into the kitchen for sandwiches, he stared with the vacant expression of a man who has stared into the depths of the abyss and found Luffy’s grinning face staring back.
He snapped.
“I HATE BREAD!!”
Then you have have a gluten free wrap, Law. Chill. Everything’s going to be fine.
At least, I think.
In the kitchen, away from Caesar’s sensitive ears, they discussed where they would dock and other important initial steps of their master plan. Kinemon also revealed why he wanted to travel to Dressrosa.
Apparently, they had set out for a place called Zou but were shipwrecked. Only one of the other samurai reached the shore with Kinemon and Momo. Doflamingo’s people pursued them. Momo tried to slip unnoticed onto a ship but it unfortunately sailed straight for Punk Hazard. Their other companion, Kanjuuro, was taken prisoner.
Law was interested in the whole Zou thing, as he had planned to travel straight there to reunite with his crew (Yay! They’re okay!) after taking care of business in Dressrosa.
Luffy was like, “EXCELLENT! WE’LL GO TO ZOU, THEN TO WANO KINGDOM. I WILL SAVE YOUR COMPANION TOO!”
And Brook randomly farted right in the middle of it, lmao.
There’s a Starman, Waiting in the Sky
Tumblr media
And while Luffy and Law were busy making plans for Nigel, an Important Meeting was taking place at Marineford.
A grave Marine called Brannew took the podium in front of a room full of serious-looking, high-rankers (Brannew, get it? He’s a Brannew Marine to the story, ahahaha.)
“As you all know,” he announced, “there are only seven Shichibukai. They are pirates who have been given permission to plunder by the World Government. In return, they grant us overwhelming power and prestige. Their allegiance to the World Government instills fear in pirates around the world.”
A line up of the more recent Famous Faces flashed across the screen.
Mihawk, Kuma, Hancock, Law, Donquixote Doflamingo, “The Celestial Yaksha” (I have yet to google that to find out what it means) and a newcomer.
Who was this newcomer?
He is the man who rapidly grew strength over the past two years. Commander of the Pirate Dispatchment Org and Living Legend: THE STAR CLOWN BUGGY!!
I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN!!
Of course it could be no one else that Buggy! Who else would have such INCREDIBLE, BEWILDERING LUCK!
Even Buggy admitted he was totally winging it. “It’s not like I asked for this. The World Government kept bugging me so I had no choice. That said, this is only a rung on the ladder. I’m moving up in the world now. In a few years, I’ll be a Yonko.”
And you know what?
I believe it.
Only Buggy would be able to become a Shichibukai by accident. Why not a Yonko too? The World Government must be pretty desperate to fill spare seats if they asked Buggy.
The serious Marine also spoke of the grave situation surrounding Doflamingo’s sudden resignation. Law’s activity and alliance with Luffy is under suspicion. Depending on what he does next, Law may be stripped of his title too.
Akainu agreed. “We cannot allow Law and Strawhat to do as they please. Smoker from G5 sent me a rather annoying message yesterday. We should observe the situation for another day. I have dispatched Fujitora.”
A couple of things.
Did Smoker send Akainu a message from Kuzan? Is that why the message was “annoying”? Maybe it’s both inconvenient (bad news) and annoying (it came from his old rival).
Who is Fujitora? A new Marine villain, high on Justice? I can but hope.
At any rate, the Marines are also on the move and are watching events in Dressrosa closely. This is good. The more conflict, the better!
You Magnificent Bastard
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, in sunny Dressrosa, Doflamingo was also cooking up plans and future conflicts of his own.
In his palace, Doflamingo sauntered down a long corridor and entered a room with four high-backed chairs carved into card suits. As he is the Joker, I’m guessing Doflamingo has a theme going.
He apologised for keeping the others waiting. We only met two of the suit card squad. Diamante and Trebol. Trebol occupies the Clubs suite chair and is creepy. He does not understand personal space bubbles (even with Doflamingo) and he keeps insisting Baby 5 wants to marry him (creepy). His Devil Fruit power is also slightly gross (he blorts everywhere) and he has a perpetual hang snot. Not my kind of villain.
Diamante is at least funny. Example:
Doffy: “The colosseum is as popular as ever. That is thanks to you, Diamante.” Diamante: “Not at all, Doffy.” (I love that they call him Doffy.) “This is due to your charisma as king.” Doffy: “No, it’s because of your talent.” Diamante: “Oh, stop talking like I’m some hero of the colosseum.” Doffy: “But you are.” Diamante: “You exaggerate!” Doffy: “Fine, you’re not.” Diamante: “OKAY. IF YOU INSIST. I AM INDEED THE HERO RAAAARRR!”
Lmao.
That was weirdly humanizing. I get that Doflamingo is the villain here and he has no qualms over sacrificing his people if it needs to happen, but he knows these guys pretty well and gets on with them. Maybe it’s successfully manipulating them, sure, but the man still has social skillz.
Once the comedy moment with Diamante was over, Doflamingo asked Trebol to bring forth the Important Thing.
Trebol handed Doflamingo a mysterious box. “This is sure to pique Strawhat’s interest,” he said. “Their alliance can very easily become a disadvantage to them. I will entrust this super important box to you, Diamante.”
After some funny reverse psychology back and forth, Diamante agreed.
Then Doflamingo made the Big Reveal. The Big, Glowing, Shiny Reveal.
When he said he had something that interested Luffy, he wasn’t lying.
But it wasn’t high-quality meat.
He has Ace’s fruit.
And he is going to use it as leverage to break up Luffy and Law’s alliance.
What a magnificent bastard.
Tumblr media
Law was attacked by a pack of wild loaves in his youth. He’s never been the same since.

y'all remember back in chapter 732 when Kaido came like a bomb??? We dont really know whtaat happened next in details, right? Well. We do know Apoo and Basil these bitches sold their asses to Kaido, Kid fought and almost perished, and the last one which outcome remains unknown until last chapter (924), is Killer, the Soldier of Slaughter. The guy in the cell might just be Killer. They took away his mask, making his face finally visible. That would make sense, because Killer is, I'll give you that, not as tough and cruel and batshit crazy insane as Kidd, but he defenitely has a high temper. He's been introduced alongside with the other supernovas as a guy who doesn't talk, fights and kills. He fought Mad Monk, who has the reputation of breakin loose in town (Shabondy, which is next to the HQ of the marine if my memory serves right), and that is PRETTY DARY if you ask me. He's loyal to Kidd and we've seen him trying to calm things up when the Kidd Alliance was forming up. It wouldn't surprise me that Killer is still alive, somewhere, and why not with Kidd. Besides, the guards said "who is this guy??" And another one replied "no one knows!" Once again, we've never seen him without his mask, neither has anybody else.

The Thing about Law that the Fandom Forgot
With more recent manga chapters revealing Law’s kinder, goofier side, a lot of people began envisioning him and portraying him as a charitable dork who’s genuinely kind but tsundere about it with everyone
And that’s fine and all, of that makes you happy, but it just kinda makes ME feel sad since it forgets and even contradicts some of my fave aspects of his character: his genuine selfishness, cruelty, and sadism
It was NOT a mistake that Doflamingo stated that the two of them were not so different, and it was NOT a mistake that Law begrudgingly agreed with this assessment
Because they both ARE selfish, cruel, and sadistic people
I mean, here are some things he does onscreen:
1. Asked X Drake gleefully about how many people he’s killed
2. Expressed great pleasure over committing all kinds of frightening body horror on Marines
3. Displayed excitement over the idea of performing excruciating surgery on Luffy and Jinbei, who couldn’t fight back (yes, it was overall kind since he saved their lives, but that doesn’t change the fact that he viewed doing painful things to them as a huge perk)
4. Needlessly and sadistically tormented Tashigi while she was down, insulting her and trying to chop her into bits in an attempt to humiliate her
5. Delivered 100 pirate hearts to the WG to become a Warlord
6. Took his damn sweet time in curing CHILDREN on PH, even though he could’ve done it in a matter of mere moments. He even suggested LEAVING THEM BEHIND since they were “too much of a burden to deal with.” (YES, he was disgusted by how Caesar treated them, I know, but it doesn’t change the fact that he didn’t do a damn thing about it and even suggested abandoning them to their horrific fates. And when he did, it was at literally the last moment and was mainly an “ugh, FINE, I GUESS I’ll do it since my ally wants it and I want to establish a good rapport with my allies” type of deal)
7. Planned to screw over every citizen of Dressrosa in his quest to avenge Corazon by killing Doflamingo. (YES, he was disgusted by how Doffy treated his citizens, but it doesn’t change the fact that he nonetheless knowingly tried to screw them all over in his revenge plot, which involved having Kaido come in and massacre thousands of innocent civilians in order to kill Doffy)
8. Outright stated that he would happily destroy the entire world, as well as himself, if it would help him avenge Corazon. In fact, his mere plan of killing Doflamingo showcases this conviction since, when Doffy did go down, it ended up plunging large parts of the world into chaos
9. While he does deeply value the sanctity of corpses (most likely due to Flevance and Cora), he CERTAINLY has 0 moral qualms with committing horrific acts of body horror on LIVING people
And this isn’t even taking into account the plethora of downright horrible shit he might’ve pulled offscreen
Like Apoo called him “infamously cruel” for a REASON
Really, overall, while Law can indeed be loving and kind, his love and care are EXTREMELY and OVERWHELMINGLY rare and selective
The only people he loves are his family, his crew, and, of course, his “most cherished person” Corazon. With them, he’s the dorky goof instead of the “Surgeon of Death.” And regarding this tiny circle of people, in great contrast to his general cruelty and sadism, he loves them to an absolutely obsessive, self-destructive, fervent, suicidal, crazed, and even FRIGHTENING extent, so much so that he’s willing to sacrifice the entire world as well as himself to avenge them/keep them safe. Like, he outright stated that he would joyfully destroy the entire world and himself to avenge Corazon. And WOW, don’t even get me STARTED on the shit he pulled on Dressrosa to avenge Corazon. He was pretty much well past the gates of death, but he STILL managed to stay alive and fight from the sheer force of the love he felt for Corazon. Even LUFFY–goddamn LUFFY–was intimidated when he witnessed just how much Law loved Corazon, THAT’S how overwhelming and scary Law’s love is for his few loved ones
• (This is actually kinda funny because his love for them is so strong that he ends up feeling fondness for THEIR loved ones as well, even if they’re his enemies and hate his guts. Like when he met Sengoku, Corazon’s adoptive father, he treated him with nothing but the utmost compassion and politeness, even when Sengoku was cussing him out, which–when you consider the fact that Law’s a very rude person–is a BIG DEAL)
And the only people outside of his circle of loved ones that he likes and tends to treat kindly are his close allies (the SHs, the Minks to a certain extent, etc). He also loosens up enough to be a bit silly and goofy with them as well. He treats them pretty well, views them pretty highly, and would, on certain conditions, risk his life for their sake (if his allies are risking their lives for a problem that’s his and not theirs, if one of them will die as a result of his issues, etc). Overall, he treats them pretty warmly, but he’s not nearly as kind to them as he is towards his loved ones
Everyone else? He’ll either go out of his way to torture you, or–if he doesn’t specifically go out of his way–if offered the opportunity to hurt you via a requirement of one of his plans, he’ll gladly take it up and view it as a major perk. And if on the off-chance he pities you, he’ll still screw you over and feel no guilt about it if it furthers his plans. Otherwise, he’ll p much only be kind to strangers if he thinks they’ll either be useful to him; be his allies in the future (for example, he saved Jean Bart, instead of any of the other slaves, because he knew he was strong); or if he respects them (he was p polite to Luffy and Kid back on SA, all things considered, since he respected them as fellow driven pirate captains)
So overall, unless if you’re his loved ones or allies, or if he thinks you’ll be useful or he respects you, Law doesn’t give a single FUCK about you and you’re SCREWED if he comes across you in a particular mood
In any other story besides One Piece’s morally ambiguous one, Law would be an unequivocal VILLAIN
And honestly, if circumstances were just a bit different, and if his goals didn’t end up generally aligning with those of the Straw Hats, Law could very well have been one of their greatest enemies
While thinking about him as such a cruel person might make some people sad, doesn’t it make Law a more fascinating and heartwarming character as well?? Isn’t it compelling and sweet how Law, one of the absolute cruelest characters in the series, is capable of the greatest love and kindness as well??

oh boi idk where you guys find the stuff but it seems like Oda wants to off some heads and/or limbs let’s see my personal hit list (that is to say the “characters most likely to die by the end of One Piece” list), Kaidou/Wano related edition:
Hot-Red Tier aka OMAE WA MOU SHINDEIRU:
none atm, though I expect Moira to pop already if he does enter the fray. There’s only so many times you can cheat death. Also, Kaidou kind of needs to die, that’s p much all his character is about from what we’ve seen, anyway.
Middle gound:
Jack... keeping him alive does not seem to be of benefit in any way. Would make one hella zombie. (Speaking of which, Lil’ Oars Jr. should drop a mixtape if Moria is around. Would tie into the Ace miniarc or w/e that’s coming, too.)
Caribou; he either dies or lives to pass the info on Shirahoshi to another dangerous player
Kid or Killer will likely have to go. What I’m saying is, these two will need to have character development, and likely at the expense of the other.
Inuarashi and Nekomamushi ride and die together. Or survive together. It just seems so... reasonable.
Low tier:
Killer again, if there is nothing happening with him and Kid. This time it’s either him or Hawkins... sorry I don’t write the rules. My instincts do. Too much beautiful long blonde hair on-screen. We need to cut some of it, sooner or later.
X Drake. He’ll have to be explored as a person first, though, like many others mentioned previously.
Like Apoo; either him or Kid will become Luffy’s foil here, if not both of them in a way (Apoo has his daredevilness, childlike wonder and cheerful attitude, but has plenty of brains and will backstab people; Kid is basically Luffy without Shanks’ lesson about not fucking killing everyone who looks at you funnily: same endgoal and comparable morals otherwise).
Kin’emon sounds about right; has yet to teach Zoro his secrets, however
The “may lose some bits but will survive” club:
Law missed his best chace to die or get maimed, second best stop is endgame. Latter can be still done, tho. Get him a Battle Franky model already.
His crew are kind of an extension of his status; killing anyone wouldn’t be of much benefit here.
Zoro; he kinda needs to either kick Mihawk’s ass first or entrust the business to Tashigi to die. Latter smells like the arc after material, though. (we NEED to get to Vegapunk eventually, you feel me?)
I believe Kaidou will get hella interested in Chopper (zoan with those pills? c’mon) and we’ll have another (attempted) kidnapping from the crew; it would be traumatic for the lil fella, but I don’t see him getting seriously injured
Any other Strawhat, including
Jinbe, who is is set up to be a permanent helmsman. He’ll stay for sure. For now.
Carrot just lost her mentor, at least it’s very, very likely. She’s in the middle of character development, too, in a “rite of passage” way. Will survive till the end of the story as an ally imho.
I’d be surprised if Momonosuke gets seriously hurt; his flying dragonness *cough* will def be important, sooner or later
+1 category: Luffy will eventually die tbh, but this arc is nowhere near endgame in any way whatsoever, despite having obvious consequences. Also Shanks, duh. I’d be surprised if that happened rn. And Blackbeard ofc (though Sakazuki is just as likely to die, honestly.) Plus Crocodile; and with that, I also have my top 5 to die in the extras lmao
I probably forgot a noteworthy player or two here, but oh well

Retreat (Kilguin)
Special thanks to @stitchesandstockings and @mudmanworld for betaing the story, and also, @ninjantome for keeping Killer's character in check (and keeping me from deleting the story altogether out of frustration). Also, this is my first longer, fluffier story about Kilguin so I hope you enjoy it :3
People say, that there is nothing as destructive and as foolish as anger. Killer agreed with this very much, for he had seen hot blinding anger from the other side most of the time. Not from the receiving end, but from the side where he had to prevent it from being too catastrophic. From the side where he had to yell as loud as he could to get heard by deaf angry ears. He had seen a lot of it, and had taken a personal oath that he wouldn't be consumed by such an ugly thing as anger.
He never thought there would come a day where he would be the one consumed by fury.
The blond dragged himself across the freezing shore covered in thick snow. He was sore, he should take a rest, but he just couldn't make himself to do it. There was still a tiny spark of energy within him, crawling up into his chest like melting lava in a volcano. Every passing minute, he was getting angrier while at the same time, fear consumed the depth of his heart.
A fear for the well-being of his Captain.
Killer gritted his teeth, tasting the tang of blood thick in his mouth. He wouldn't hope for Kid to be fine. No, fine is a bit too much. He had learnt that keeping his hopes high in this ocean is a foolish thing to do. He had just hoped that Kid is alive.
The bitter thought got Killer even angrier, as he gripped his scythes with all his remaining might. He knew anger to be a destructive thing but now, it was the only thing that he could rely on to keep him going─to make him move, and take another step closer to Kaido's lair. Killer knew that in his current, sorry shape, he couldn't fight Kaido's commanders- Let alone the Beast himself- But he needed to locate Kid's whereabouts. He needed to know where Kid was being imprisoned. If he knew, he could then retreat in peace and make a plan to rescue him.
However, rage alone couldn't bring him far in his journey. Eventually, exhaustion and a seemingly invisible stone tumbled Killer from his limping steps, causing him to fall face first to the cold snow. Some of the ice touched the skin of his face through his mask, making him groan. The snow cooled burning, unhealed injuries, a feeling that was not comfortable, but was welcomed. Killer tried to get back up, he'd finish this mission crawling if he had to.
"Stupid… Kid…" he panted as he tried to get up. Again. His body was so close to giving up on him, but he knew that passing out in the middle of the snow wasn't the brightest idea. He had visited enough winter islands to know that hypothermia is one among many causes of death, and he willed himself on, refusing to stop now. He refused to die, at least until Kid was free and setting sail once again, even if it meant that he had to take his captain's place.
The cold didn't help him to make any movement. His joints were all frozen, and the fact that he only wore his usual southern style short sleeved thin shirt and pants caused his body temperature to drop rapidly and it wasn't long before rage and willpower were no longer enough and his body refused to move. Killer laid his head on the snow, blood starting to freeze and frustration and fear took hold of his heart. He didn't dare to close his eyes, for he would see the horrible fate in the darkness of his those images refused to be pushed to the back of his mind. In fact, he could see them perfectly clear on the white snow he was stuck staring at. The defeat of Captain Kid. No, it should be The Defeat of Massacre Soldier. If only he wasn't so focused on hurting Kaido, he would have seen the attack that was aimed at Kid. If only he knew just a second earlier, he would have the time to jump and take Kid's place, but the giant's reach was out of Killer's. So there was Kid, taking the blow that Killer should protect him from. Wasn't it a First Mate's duty to protect their captain at all costs?
To make it worse, there was not even time to make up for his mistake. Once Kid took the blow, Kaido snatched him, and that was about the end of their short resistance. That Apoo bastard quickly surrendered, while Kid, being the stupid, persistent bastard he is, spat blood in Kaido's direction and simply laughed at the idea, and that was when he knew that they had to retreat. That to be able to free his captain, they had to leave him behind. A smart, but cowardly decision that he regretted now, as he fear for his captain's life grew with each passing minute.
Killer groaned, using the power from his guilt to try and get up once again, but this time, exhaustion had beaten his willpower. He couldn't even lift a limb, no matter how much he put his strength into it.
For the first time since the horrible fate he shared with Kid in their childhood, Killer felt helpless and afraid. He knew he couldn't hope for miracle─it was a concept made by weaklings that couldn't move their asses to look destiny dead in the eyes and take what they want, but right now, in a place near freezing point where he couldn't even move a muscle, Killer wished for one. Just one. Free Eustass Kid. Let him see Kid set sail once again.
The blond could feel his exhaustion quickly overcome him as he used the last of his strength to dig the snow with the tips of his fingers, hoping for a secret passage or something - anything- to appear in front of him. However, as he was dragged deeper to the deepest darkness of unconsciousness, Killer knew that Miracles didn't happen to the likes of them.
-ccc-
"He's still alive!" Killer could hear someone declare loudly, in an urgent tone that could usually only be heard in the midst of the battle. That, along with the cold fingertips that were pressing hard to feel his pulse, dragged him halfway to consciousness. Killer kept what remained of his focus to the touch and the voice, like he would to the surface of the ocean if he was drowning.
The fingertips continued to press against his freezing skin, in the strategic places where the pulse could be located. Killer had given up on trying to open his eyes, or to make any attempt to move. He just focused on the guy's action, interpreting it with his weak mind. Doctor, he concluded in his mind. This guy's a doctor.
"His wounds have been treated poorly, Captain. He's not dead yet but he's close."
"Good. Bring him to infirmary," someone else replied, with a calmer, more authoritative tone. "Every last one of them."
"Why?" someone asked.
"Because that's Captain Kid's crew," the calm voice replied. His voice sounds closer and clearer now, jolting Killer's attention to full alert. "If they're scattered here, in Kaido's lair, we have to know why. They can give us some valuable information."
"Assuming they want to give information."
Yeah, Trafalgar, Killer thought. What makes you think we would want to give information voluntarily?
"Oh they would," that familiar voice said in a tone full of confidence. "If not, we can always throw them back to the snow."
Snarky bastard, Killer thought. He could then hear some more footsteps approaching him, a series of boots sloshing against the snow. He wanted to move, he wanted to put up some resistance to save the Kid Pirates' some dignity.
If only he could move. Just a muscle.
-ccc-
"… with a serious case of hypothermia. The cold was his enemy and his ally at the same time," Killer could hear Trafalgar's voice enter his weak ears. He still couldn't move, even after his brain gave so many orders to his every muscle and every nerve. He wanted to open his eyes, to see whether it's really Trafalgar Law, and what the fuck that bastard was doing here. "If it were not snowing out there, he would die due to infection."
"The snow prevented his injuries from getting worse, but at the same time, it almost froze him to death," another voice was heard; a more delicate, and soft voice that it could only be interpreted as defeated. Killer's heart sunk when he heard that voice. He tried to swim to the surface of his consciousness, to where the voice come from, but how could he swim, if he couldn't feel his body? Was that Peng? He needed to see the bird. He had to. He also needed to know what the hell they were doing here, and if they were talking about him.
"Precisely. He was this close death."
Then, there was an uncomfortable silence. Killer tried to open his eyes once more, only to know that by being unable to do so, they were indeed talking about him. But what happened to him? What happened to the crew? What about Kid? Is he alive? Killer felt like something was punching his gut repeatedly when he thought of Kid. A bad feeling that he couldn't shake. Just why couldn't he move? Then, a series of approaching footsteps derailed his train of thought. Killer focused what he had left of his energy to listen, to keep his mind afloat in the darkness that was so eager to pull him back to its embrace.
"Kil," the delicate voice whispered, sounding so defeated. Killer felt like his heart stopped in an instant. For a moment, the thought of Kid, the guilt and his duty as first mate was forgotten, pushed back to the abyss of his mind while the remaining of his consciousness revolved around that voice. Around the puff of breath that touched his cold cheek. "Killer… Goddamn it man. What happened to you?"
Then there were touches. First a soft, light touch on the tip of his nose, followed by the touch of someone's lips; dry, chapped, cold, and desperate, ghosting over his shoulder, cheek, and eventually, his temple. Killer wanted to laugh, wanted to catch that hand and kiss every knuckle, denying his vulnerability with wild affection. If only he could move.
-ccc-
"… Fighting really well. Good sign, man," that was a louder, more laid back tone. It took Killer a few moments to realize that 1) he was drugged. Hard and 2) he's in the Heart Pirates' care. That must the sound of the happy whale of the Heart Pirates. "Cheer up a little bit, Pen. Have you even taken a bath these past few days?"
Pen. Penguin. Penguin of the Heart Pirates. Killer could feel his heart jump from its nearly static state, to spikes in the beat that made him tired. They must have put a heart monitor on him, because he could hear the repetitive beep sound grow louder, faster, and the sound of someone jump from their seat.
"Kil? You good?"
Killer tried to do something, anything, to prove to the little bird that he was fine, but he was choked, he was strangled, and it didn't help him that Penguin was yelling to the happy whale about something. The emergency seemed to be temporary, because as Killer felt a pointed needle injected to him, and he was dragged back to the darkness that he was trying so hard to raise himself from. He tried to call Penguin's name, but the darkness swallowed him.
When Killer managed to finally open his eyes, he squinted only to see the dimmed room. It was made of metal, all grey and dull but strangely familiar. After his eyes adjusted to the light, he could feel all of his senses struggling to steal his attention with enormous amount of stimulus; the smell of medicine and ammonia that pierced his nose, he didn't like that. Then, there were confusing signals that made him realize he must be in shit shape right now, considering that he received over stimulus that he could only perceive as pain in several parts of his body, and the lack of stimulus in the others that he could only perceive as disfigurement. Like his left hand. He remembered that he broke a scythe so bad, his arm must be crushed in the process─it was probably already rotting and half functioning right now.
He sighed, thinking that grave must be better than early retirement. What retirement is like for pirates, anyway?
Wait. Pirates. Yeah, he's a pirate. He's the first mate of Kid Pirates. With Kid.
Kid.
The thought of that name alone brought him back to full consciousness. He could now feel additional stimulus that he couldn't recognize before. Like the abnormal weight on his chest, or the calloused fingers between his stiff ones. Killer shifted himself, trying to look down at his chest to see what the hell was on it.
"Whoa, easy, easy," he suddenly saw a face of a handsome man, framed by messy, short platinum hair with streaks of black. The man looked worried and tired at the same time. His ice blue eyes were decorated with dark bags beneath, his lips chapped, and he looked… tired. Even so, it was still a familiar face that Killer thought he would never see again. The man that he thought he couldn't embrace again. He remembered that face in another dimly lit room, in a humid area with the faint sound of random bubbles bursting outside. Memories flooded his mind like senses flooded his brain, recalling the light, happy feeling he felt when seeing that face.
You look like your scary captain, was what Killer was trying to say but his voice just wouldn't come out. Instead, there was a low, broken sound that made him wince in pain.
"Hey, go easy on yourself," the man said, with softer tone that sounded less stressed and shocked than the first time. He was pushing himself away, only to come back with a glass of water. Up until Penguin brought it to his range of vision, Killer didn't realize that he was thirsty as hell. Penguin helped him by tilting his head until it was in a safe position to drink without spilling or choking. The smaller man smiled slightly, looking even more exhausted and if Killer's guess was on point, for the most stupid reason.
"There you go," he smiled when Killer finally managed to finish the drink.
"You look like shit," Killer croaked, his voice hoarse. Whoa. How long had he been out again?
Penguin let out a laugh, a sort of relieved one. "You ought to look in the mirror."
Killer shook his head in exaggerated confidence, and Penguin laughed at that.
"Beauty is really in the eye of beholder," he ruffled Killer's hair and massaged his scalp. "Goddamn it Kil," he whispered, looking pained. "I thought I lost you."
Lost… Killer suddenly thought of the blackout… Kid… The war… Who was it they were fighting? Was it Bartholomew Kuma? That's why the little bird was here, right? So why was he here, in the infirmary of the Heart Pirates? Why were Penguin's features are so different? Where is Kid? They beat weird robot Kuma. So where the fuck is that bastard?
At the same time, Killer could remember Kid being smashed. The blood… the bitter taste of betrayal… The huge shadow looming over him…
Kaido.
Killer shifted again, trying to force memories to come back as he tried to get up. Only to be knocked back by a painful headache. "Kid…!" he groaned. "Gotta… Get… Kid"
"Kil, I don't think…"
"Pen!" he hissed. "Something is happening to Kid. I need to get him. I need to get Kid. Now!"
"Kil," Penguin tried to keep him from getting up, but Killer just wouldn't listen and tried to get up from his hospital bed. He ripped at his IVs, trying to detach all of the medical support just so that he could go. Penguin asked, commanded, begged, and ultimately, straddled Killer to make him stay on the bed. Yet he, even in a stronger state than Killer, still was not a match for the Kid Pirates' first mate. So he decided to take the sedative and inject it into Killer.
The blond was still rambling about saving Kid when finally, unconsciousness claimed him back.
-ccc-
It must have been a long time since he was awake. Killer couldn't remember. When he finally came round, he tried once again to piece together his memories of recent events. However, they were scrambled in his mind, stirring up in a mess, so Killer decided that it's better to stay passive and not try to remember anything for now. He focused on his senses, to breathe, to smell, to focus on his surroundings so that he could clear his mind, and once he had his mind straight enough to be aware, the first thing that Killer felt was a head resting against the lower left part of his chest, almost right on top of his heart. An arm flung across Killer's body, fingers ghosting over his. Killer could feel a smile rise up on his face. He knew full well who that might be. In his short life, he never let many people touch him. This guy was one among his short list of exceptions.
He was about to pull the body laid half on him closer, when he heard a metal door swing open, and a series of fast paced footsteps approaching him.
"Oh," the man chuckled. "Awake, Killer-ya?"
Killer shot his eyes open, trying to get up only to see Trafalgar Law approaching him.
"Traf… Trafalgar," Killer murmured, as he tried to get up, but Law only shook his head.
"Hush, you wouldn't want to wake little Peng now, would you? He's been awake for the last few days, looking out for you," he said as he checked Killer's IV drip, and all of the medical paraphernalia that Killer couldn't quite understand. "See? All changed and done perfectly. But again, Peng had been refusing to handle anything besides you, especially when it wasn't a direct order from me. So I expect nothing less than perfection."
Killer couldn't quite understand what Trafalgar meant, as he held Penguin's hand which rested over his, stroking it absentmindedly while he tried to understand the whole situation.
"How long have I been out?"
"One week," Trafalgar replied, leaning on Killer's bedside table. The Heart Pirate's captain looked… different somehow. Even more than the bounty poster showed. He still looked like a slender panda with lean muscles, but he looked a bit… laid back, free… Killer's mind changed one word with another, and he concluded that the right word had yet to be invented for Law's body language. He just looked like he finally dropped the weight of the world from his shoulders.
"Do you know what year it is? What is the last thing you remember?"
Killer answered Trafalgar's doctoral questions properly, a bit annoyed because there were more important things than how he felt and what the fucking year was.
"I understand your frustration, Killer-ya. But I have to make sure that you have complete recollection of the events before I continue with my questions" Trafalgar must have sensed his annoyance, because he looked more serious now. His expression tightened as he looked at Killer with his sharp eyes. Killer was not a coward or a lowlife that could be intimidated with such a look, but moments like this made him understand why he's not a captain. "Killer-ya, are you sure that you are in shape for interrogation?"
Killer squinted, trying to assess his own mind, trying to see if he could properly recall the events that led to this moment. He decided to start with Trafalgar. The last time he saw his face was when Trafalgar got captured by the Clown or whatever… Then the alliance… Then the giant…
He could feel his heart jump as memories flooded back.
"Yeah," he whispered, almost pained but he refused to believe that things could get worse. "I'm still trying to clear my mind, but please ask me what you need to know. That'll help me sort my memories faster."
For a moment, Trafalgar looked a bit hesitant but curious regardless. Knowing his history with Kid, Killer was a bit surprised that he could still have such a calm manner. "Very well," the surgeon nodded. "About the alliance… Why did you do it?"
"To take down a yonko, just like we discussed some time ago."
"I don't recall any of you saying anything about taking down Kaido."
"That's because that wasn't out plan. We were aiming for Red Haired Shanks."
"Then, what were you doing in Kaido's lair?"
Despite Trafalgar's eager curiosity, his questions were quick, sharp, and precise─just like the movement of his scalpel in the operating theatre. Killer could salute him for that.
"That day after you defeated Doflamingo, Kaido fell from the sky onto our safe house. We were all surprised that of all islands, he landed on ours. However, when he realized who were, he was furious at us. I assumed it was for being in the same generation as you and Straw Hat. He attacked us, beat the shit out of us to set an example… show that you… we can't hope to defeat him."
At that, Killer clenched his fist, grabbing Penguin's hand as an attempt to hold on to his patience, to his calmness. His heart rate spiked all of a sudden, resulting in a faster, louder beep on the heart monitor. Killer could feel fear and desperation take hold again, and somehow it affected Penguin. The man that laid on top of him was now frozen in place, his breath on hold for a moment. Killer focused on the rhythm of the smaller man's breathing, trying not to do something impulsive.
"I see," Law nodded. "However, it doesn't explain why my crew can't find your captain nor anyone from your allied crews."
"Scratchmen is under Kaido now. He surrendered and begged to be taken under his wing. I don't know where Hawkins went..." Killer paused for a moment, trying to get his voice to work. "As for Kid… he got captured…"
"… For refusing to surrender," Law continued, nodding as his expression changed. He looked once again like the weight of the world rested on his shoulders. "That sounds like what that stupid, stubborn, and prideful Eustass would do."
"He has his own principles."
"I know," Trafalgar Law said. "It's part of his charm, isn't it?"
"Trafalgar," Killer exclaimed, his voice low and dangerous. He might still feel weak from his injuries, but he wouldn't let that get in the way of protecting his captain's name. "Just because you got in his pants, doesn't mean I will let you get away with talking shit about Kid…"
"I know," Trafalgar cut Killer off before he could say anything else. "I admire you for that, and I would not waste my time with Eustass-ya if he was a lesser man than he is. But this time… With what happened to Whitebeard two years ago, with what Mad Monk-ya did to Big Mom's commander, with what Straw hat-ya and I did with Doflamingo, Yonkos will start to get the memo. They will start to destroy us the moment they see us. You should have run the moment Kaido showed himself in front of you. You, Killer-ya, of all people, should have known that it would end like this. It could have ended worse than this. You should have just knocked him unconscious and dragged his arrogant ass away until you developed a proper plan!" Trafalgar gripped the side of the table tightly, his finger tips turning white. Killer swore he could hear the doctor's teeth gritting loudly. "You, of all people, should remind him to retreat."
"I could, but I wouldn't," Killer barked back. "I might have known that it will end like this. I might have known that it could be worse. But what I think never mattered. Kid is my captain. When he orders us to attack, we attack."
"You could have died by Kaido's hands."
"But we didn't," Killer exclaimed. "He didn't. I know you may think you have Kid all figured out just because you shared his bed. But no, you don't know shit about my captain. He might not the strongest man in this ocean yet, but Kid is persistent. He won't die just because he got his ass handed to him."
"You're pretty optimistic. It's Kaido we're talking about. Straw hat-ya and I could barely fight Doflamingo."
"Well we aren't you. If you give a single shit about Kid, then you better get your ass moving!" Killer growled.
For a few moments, the two glared at each other, before Trafalgar Law finally sighed, and let out a tiny laugh that could easily be mistaken as bitter. "You're right. We need to focus on the future. Get some rest, Killer-ya. We will discuss a plan to rescue your captain tomorrow. After all, we need all hands on deck to beat Kaido and his commanders." The captain of The Heart Pirates turned on his heel and started to walk towards the door, but before he could walk halfway across the room, Killer stopped him.
"Trafalgar."
The lean man stopped in place, and tilted his head to glance at Killer.
"When the time comes Kid is in prominent danger, would you switch me in his place?" Killer asked, ending his request by swallowing his saliva, and his pride with it.
Trafalgar didn't respond. He continued to stare at him questioningly. "How should I know whether the time has come, Killer-ya?"
"When something horrible is about to happen. When your calculation or your judgment says that the event will result either in his death, or that Kid will be unable to continue his journey. Kid needs to continue to sail, no matter what. He has to. He's the future pirate king, after all. So I'm begging you, will you do that when the time comes?"
For a moment, silence claimed the room, then Trafalgar let out a tiny laugh. "Why do I get the impression that you will fight to make sure I agree on this," he paused. "Very well, when the time comes."
Trafalgar stepped out of the infirmary. Before closing the door, he spoke back into the room, "Also, Penguin, I need you at the hull first thing in the morning. No more excuses. And you're welcome to bring Killer-ya along should you deem necessary."
The door clicked shut and Killer heard the way Penguin's breath hitched. Penguin lifted his head from Killer's chest and grinned with the mischievous of a child. His pale cheek blushed light pink, which earned a smile from Killer.
Now that Killer felt assured he would be able to count on Trafalgar's scheme to steal Kid back from the beast, a weight had been lifted. Or perhaps the happiness that settled over him was the effect of the little bird's presence. That was Penguin's charm, after all.
"I knew you were awake this whole time, you sly little bird," Killer said as he pulled Penguin closer. His joints made popping noises when he moved his arms. "But how did Trafalgar know?"
Penguin shrugged. "Well, he has practiced his observation haki by surveying one hundred heartbeats at the same time."
"Huh?" Killer blinked in disbelief. "Kid has had his violent moments, but your captain sure is scary."
"You're one to talk, Massacre soldier."
They shared a laugh, before Penguin slowly stopped and stared at Killer's happy face. He touched Killer's cheek, silencing the blond before sealing their dry lips together. Their kiss grew hungrier and more urgent with each passing second. Killer was surprised by this new demanding side of Penguin. He was more than happy to let Penguin have his way, though, and followed along with the pace set by the smaller man. Eventually they ran out of breath and broke away for much needed air.
"Whoa," Killer smirked. "What happened to you these past two years?"
"Not the past two years," Penguin chuckled, almost sounding bitter but somehow also finding humour in it. "The past week, Kil. Something happened inside me when I saw you there, lying unconscious. And when you did wake, you mumbled incoherent things like you'd lost your mind. It gave me a thought I can't seem to shake."
Killer scowled, but pulled Penguin in to place soft peaks across his skin. "That sounds serious," he mumbled, lips resting against the smaller man's cheek. All thoughts about his Captain were pushed to the back of his mind. "Mind sharing?"
"I will," Penguin whispered, pressing his now wet lips on Killer's cold skin. The blond's fever had long gone, and his skin was now covered in cold sweat and Penguin's kisses. "Gotta… show… First."
They continued to shower one another with kisses, pressing their lips everywhere they could reach and savouring the other's touch. Eventually Penguin sat up from his awkward position, and Killer pulled him closer. Their hands cupped one another's faces as they locked eyes, unwilling to blink in case somehow the other would disappear.
"Take off your shoes," Killer breathed.
"And why should I do that?"
"Because you need to be here with me," Killer replied, kissing the tip of Penguin's nose, before touching their foreheads together. "So we can relive our moment on Sabaody from two years ago. Or have you forgotten?"
Penguin's lips widened into a grin as he huffed warm breath against Killer's skin. Killer liked the feeling; Penguin's presence never failed to comfort him. He was grateful, because of all the things that could have happened, the Heart Pirates had found him, and he was reunited with Penguin, the man who emitted warmth like the sun.
Whenever he was around Penguin, Killer could feel the desperation and fear leave his body. He got the feeling that things would be alright. An alliance with the Heart Pirates could only make them stronger, unlike the past alliance with Apoo and Hawkins. Plus Trafalgar needed Kid, in more ways than one, and would fight just as hard as Killer to save him. There was great comfort in that thought.
Penguin's chuckle distracted Killer from his thoughts. "You were the one diagnosed with a concussion, Kil," Penguin finally answered.
"It would take more than a concussion to make me forget," Killer retorted. His hands lowered to Penguin's back and hugged him closer. "Now, take off your shoes."
"I don't want to relive the moment," Penguin whispered, but he took off his shoes anyway, and positioned himself over Killer. However, Penguin's weight remained on his knees instead of resting on the larger man. Killer was strong, but Penguin didn't want to risk agitating any of Killer's already aching injuries.
Killer's eyebrows disappeared under his bangs when he raised them. "What, you found someone better these past two years?"
"No!" Penguin exclaimed. "God, Kil, no. I don't want to relive the moment because… after watching you motionless for the past week, something got to me. And after I heard what you asked my Captain…"
Penguin's icy blue eyes stared deep into Killer, showing something that resembled pain, anger, and desperation. Killer knew that look. He had seen it many times when he had looked at his own reflection in the mirror. He had seen it on Heat's face when they first recruited him. It was bitter, and dark. And yet, simultaneously it resembled hope in its rawest and most untameable form.
"What are you thinking, little bird?"
"I thought… that this, what we have right now, is something that shouldn't be marked by time. We shouldn't think about anything else aside from what we have here. Now. You. Me. Before this week, I would kiss you goodbye, and hope to kiss you again sometime in the future. Before this week, I would hug you long enough to make it last until we would meet again."
Penguin took a breath to think about how best to phrase his next words. "But that's not how pirates should be. Pirates don't cling to the concept of happily ever after. We don't love someone forever. We're not supposed to reflect on the past or look to the future with hope. Pirates are meant to live by instinct, and think only about the present time."
Penguin's voice was growing shaky with emotion as he continued. "But you and I don't do those things. That is our problem. Because the sweet memories of the past, the dreadful promises of the future, they will harm us and leave us distraught. You can't do this to Kid. And I won't second my captain for this, either."
Killer remained silent as he waited patiently for Penguin to finish.
"Besides, dwelling on what we had in the past will only hurt you, the same way the thought of the future does to me… When I saw you unconscious–," Penguin whispered, but was unable to finish that thought. His voice was traumatized from speaking these words.
Killer stared at the beautiful young man, headache and pain momentarily forgotten as he blurted out his loyalty and love in a single breath. For some, Penguin's speech could have been interpreted as a rejection, or an attempt to put an end to things. But Killer knew Penguin. He also knew that all those things he said were true. And for once, Killer could only imagine what it would feel like to watch someone he cared about in immense pain, with their soul ebbing between life and death.
Killer could feel that Penguin generally cared about him. He was the first person outside of the Kid Pirates to do so, and Killer's heart couldn't help but let him in.
"I mean… You understand, right?" Penguin questioned. "Your presence. That's all that matters to me right now. Bringing up the past will only make things more painful. The past is a reminder that dreadful things can and will happen again in the future, whether it be to you or to me."
"Fair enough," Killer said, his voice low. "Fine. No more talk of the past. Or the future."
Penguin nodded in agreement.
Killer smiled, feeling a strange sense of pride creep into his heart. He didn't overthink it, and instead pulled Penguin in for a kiss. It was drawn out and gentle, a way of displaying his pure admiration for his little bird. Upon breaking away, Penguin blushed again.
"There, a promise sealed with a kiss," Killer whispered. "Now don't look like that again, and love me for today."
"Ugh, why does it sound weird when you say it?" Penguin hissed, clearly embarrassed.
But Killer wasn't having any of that. He rolled them in the small infirmary bed so that he could straddle Penguin, making it creak and shake in a dangerous way as he did so. All the while Penguin was yelling in protest, worried that Killer would injure himself or damage his medical aid, or that they would break the bed and then Law would slice them into tiny pieces. The protests turned to embarrassed whines now that they had successfully switched positions with minimal trouble. Penguin was on his back now, and Killer rested his head on his chest, with his large arm sprawled out to hug the body beneath him.
"You should be resting," Penguin hissed.
"I've had enough rest," Killer replied. "I don't need any more beauty sleep. Unlike some stupid nurse who has stayed awake the entire week."
Penguin tried to frown, but his lips were betraying him. "I'm an anaesthesia specialist," he protested. "Not some stupid nurse."
"Yeah, well, you were nursing me, instead of anaesthesia-ing me. So go to sleep now. Or I will make you."
"Yeah? How you gonna do that?"
Killer raised his head from Penguin's chest to give him a look, making the smaller man chuckle before pulling the blond's head back down. "Don't even think about it, you pervert," he laughed. "Go to sleep."
"I was gonna love you for today."
"I'm already sleeping."
"How about when you wake up?"
"Don't think about the future."
Killer laughed, snuggling against Penguin while the smaller man wrapped both arms around the blond, smiling softly.
Penguin had cried nearly every night while Killer was unconscious and heavily injured– praying; hoping; being tortured by the sweet memories of the past, and the fear of the future. His thoughts had reflected on what a cruel world it is that they live in. A world where strong men fight one another, and where someone like Penguin wasn't likely to last long. He feared for the day when he might lose his own life in battle, or sacrifice it for the sake of his captain, or perhaps be made to beg for it as Killer had done.
A life where they could settle down and be together forever seemed like an impossible dream.
In this cruel world moments would come and go, as would people just as fast. Everyone would rise and die; be remembered, and eventually forgotten. Life would always be an unpredictable game. And that was exactly why cherishing the people he had right now, without the weight of forever, would have to be enough.

One Piece Chapter 1032 - Initial Thoughts
Tumblr media
Well that week break was a sneaky one, but we're back for the chapter that preludes the anime's 1000th episode
With Sanji finding new resolve we've begun anew with that fight, but focus will likely shift elsewhere. Let's get down to business
Spoilers for the Chapter, Support the Official Release too
Yamato cover this time, delivering goods to an old lady with some cats
Marco's carrying Izo at their behest to kick off, Marco admitting he's injured while Izo wants to investigate the 'fire yokai'
Flying away from Big Mom, several of Kaido's forces are trying to fight to get in, not for battle but to avoid the fire
Back to the Yamato chase and Apoo is still being a sneaky one
Looks like Fuga's friends with Yamato, and he only chased Yamato to catch up
But it is fortunate, because Fuga's big hair allows a soft landing for Robin and Brook
CP0 have followed up though, charging down at their target
The duo have resorted to fight but then they see behind CP0 Kazenbo
Damn, Kanjuro just kinda protected Robin inadvertently, burning the CP0 members alive
Wait it can pass through walls as well? Feel like that could've been more useful...give Usopp Kanjuro's fruit! He's an artist and he could do wonders
Yamato connects the dots though with Kazenbo going for the armoury, and calls on Fuga for assistance
Graceful landing for Brook as well XD
Apoo's quick to get the pics of CP0 though - who are just confirming that the fire theme of Onigashima's raid isn't as damaging as real fire should be - which is a bad move
Blackmailing secret agents with freedom to kill? Silly Apoo
White Eye just ups and Shigan's Apoo's neck, before reminding Drake that he knows that he's a spy too
Drake however seems to be ready to spill CP0's presence too (well, he already did but CP0 don't know that it seems) so White Eye goes to silence him
Apoo's still alive! With a blindside boom, turns out he used haki just in time
So now Apoo and Drake are working together to fight CP0!
Back to Zoro vs King and it's for our regular dosage of 'THAT'S NOT HOW DINOSAURS WORK ODA!' as King ELASTICS HIS FACE to attack Zoro with his beak...
Oda is just trolling us at this point but now I'm curious at what dinosaurs were actually like in One Piece (other than the Little Garden dinosaurs who are completely fucking normal)
Being outdoors, King is able to keep his distance from Zoro, but he does give away that his fire is not a part of his Devil Fruit
Zoro tries a Great Dragon Twister, but King tanks it by hiding under his wings, making Zoro conclude that he's like a dragon in regards to thick defences
King, craving a good fight, reverts to human for some sword combat as Zoro runs down the information he has on King internally; wings not yet used, no signs of blood, and the fire
When deliberating his race though King muscles Zoro into the wall, flooring him as he lay exhausted, realising that his chances of winning are slim when he knows so little about the enemy
In the distance though Zoro hears a shamisen, and Enma activates, beginning to drain his haki
Orochi also hears the shamisen too, and peers out to see what is causing it
And it's Hiyori, dressed as 'Komurasaki'
Oh she's a clever one, using his simpage to lure him towards her as plans of revenge close in
Admittedly there's a lot of set up here but it was still good set up nonetheless, I suppose Oda also didn't want to overshadow the announcement of the Shanks movie either (sounds like it could be a prequel story, or at the least a parallel story of Shanks' pirate career up to meeting Luffy or becoming a Yonko).
Back to the chapter though and it seems to have been split between 3 main subjects; first is the Kazenbo, its announcement has drawn Izo and Marco towards it, I'm unsure what Izo can do and given its path through the floors it's likely Izo will be nowhere near Kiku, Marco on the other hand does have the chance to tame fire thanks to his Devil Fruit. The Kazenbo also brings Yamato with Fuga - hopefully we'll get more explanation on that bond later - into more urgency than before, and it is likely that somehow the Kazenbo would have to be fought off: after all, Yamato and Brook both have ice powers, and Jimbei and Kawamatsu would also be useful here.
The Kazenbo plot opens up the second plot of CP0, now even less likely to capture Robin it puts them in direct arms with Apoo and Drake (notice how the other two Numbers haven't seemed to have followed Apoo?), the common goal seems to be exposing CP0 though I must admit it would've done absolute wonders if White Eye succeeded in killing Apoo, just to sell their danger a lot more, I mean they have shrugged off being singed alive and tanking an explosion but still, the longer they're in the fight the more time Robin and Brook have to get away, whether that battle gets interrupted though depends on the moving parts.
Finally we get more Zoro vs King's 'that's not how it works' session, at this point I'm expecting Kaido to do something ridiculous and say 'this is how dragons hunted in ancient times!' - but it is an interesting spot we have Zoro in; he's exhausted and on a time limit which is nothing new but there's rarely if ever been a point where we've seen Zoro think 'I can't beat them', and now that Enma is being triggered by Hiyori's song this can either make things worse or unintentionally give Zoro an in in regards to fighting the Lunarian.
As for the finale all we have to wonder is if Kanjuro informed Orochi that Komurasaki was Hiyori, it seems like he hasn't (of course he'd hide in the treasure room as well, Nami's gonna be wanting that) but the man is extremely paranoid, tread cautiously when enacting revenge.

One Piece Chapter 1030 - Initial Thoughts
Tumblr media
And we are back
Fresh off of the Hawkins/Killer fight concluding it seems that Kid is about to get his second wind
But we also gotta be wary that Oda is ping ponging across the entire events of the raid, so we'll have to wait and see
Without further ado though, let's get back to it
Spoilers for the Chapter, Support the Official Release as well!
Ominous title is ominous among the army ants walking over Brook's shoe
Translator's note says that it's the opening line of an epic poem about the struggle between two clans in the Genpei war, a war which ended in Japan becoming run by the Shogun, starting the era of Feudal Japan
Starting with Apoo and Drake...not fighting?
I'm very curious to how Apoo and Drake went from fighting on the Performance Floor to chilling in Apoo's man-cave with the remaining 3 Numbers
One of whom has a ridiculously devilish moustache
But Apoo is talking shop, and betraying Kaido
He's right that whoever wins is gonna be weakened, and he wants to clear up the scraps, dude's more vulture than pirate
Of course Drake doesn't trust him, but Apoo says it's not about trust, it's about Opportunity
Over to Nami and Usopp's party and they're bringing Komachiyo down gently away from the fire - still no sign of Hihimaru though
The duo are alerted to panicked screams about a Yokai, but it's not a Yokai
VINDIFUCKINGCATION! KIN'EMON IS ALIVE...well, half of him is, his legs running around a la Punk Hazard
Farting his distress signal, Usopp tackles him and sees the profuse bleeding, but without ears the legs can't tell it's him
Nami being resourceful though and drawing the shape of the crescent moon on the leg to signal an ally
Oh man, Usopp with the looks, he's bout to run with Hamlet and Kin'emon's half as Nami stays with Tama
Even Kiku is still alive! But just barely, and Kin'emon's using his time to try and save her instead of himself
Seems that Kaido's stabbing cut Kin'emon in half, but he was never truly reattached in Punk Hazard...scanlations say Law didn't reattach him properly but if I recall it wasn't Law that reassembled him. That also could mean any prior detachments still maintain their effect
But then he hear a Smail trying to contact Kanjuro, it's Orochi to his surprise
MOTHERFUCKING, KANJURO WHY ARE YOU STILL ALIVE!?
This Bastard has had 2 perfect moments to be killed off, just how long can you survive a fatal wound? What next is Ashura gonna hobble over here?
Orochi though goads Kanjuro into an 'encore' to kill everyone else he can; the Suicide Pact of the Kurozumi
And it's a giant flaming ink monster
Aha I see you Oda, giant flaming monster one side, Momo only able to make tiny flame clouds on the other, I see you
Onigashima is just now proper on fire too
CP0 on the move, en route to Brook and Robin no doubt who are being surrounded by flames; would be a good time for a certain Fishman to utilise some water, or a certain Homie to cast down a ton of rain
Marco does understand the stakes right? He's seeming like he's just having a fun stroll around a flaming warzone
Seems Queen did catch up to Sanji too, as we see the Monster Trio fighting
Orochi though the scumbag wants to blow the whole place up, using the bombs in the armoury, but he also thinks he can get away with MegaForehead, meaning he thinks Raizo's a slouch
Yamato though is speeding to the armoury too, but there's not much time until it reaches the capital, and then they're halted too
Moving straight to Big Mom hitting an Ikoku on Kid's Punk Rotten
Something tells me Yamato had a brainwave there, like Big Mom's Ikoku could cut a tunnel clean into the armoury kinda deal?
Kid and Law aren't thinking that though, they're in for the fight
Whoa Kid and Law have Awakened their Fruits!?
I guess their reasoning explains why they didn't use it before, but if they're using it now it means it could've been valuable
At first I thought Kroom was a sound effect, but apparently that's the attack's name!
Whoa Whoa, Law just Stabbed Through Big Mom!
Seems that the stabbing isn't painful, but once the Kroom is in the body it can attack it internally too, like Gamma Knife
After shocking her from the inside, Big Mom is actually hurt!!! Now it's Kid's turn
Kid's awakening makes sense, his DF is magnetism so Awakening is applying magnetism to others
And by Making BM a Magnet, she's drawing in all metal: including weapons and infrastructure
God Damn that was a big chapter
Law and Kid are coming out more and more dangerous looking, I mean Law's fruit was already OP it didn't need awakening on top of that. It is showing their monster qualities, even if it's just a momentary thing, which does make me feel like Luffy and Zoro kinda need to step into this foray too, Luffy's awakening is going to be ridiculous.
But I doubt Big Mom is done, the fight will at least give Yamato a chance to get to the Armoury before Kanjuro's demon does
Usopp looks like he's going to hit a stage though, going to Kin'emon and Kiku's aid he may have to finish off Kanjuro, the deceiver, but Fire is quite strong against plants so I feel like more may be waiting for him. CP0 are moving to confront Robin too which means Brook may have to step up as well
And we've not seen Jimbei and Carrot for a while have we? Let alone Shinobu, Franky, Law's crew or Raizo, or the shadow person and the possible Caribou.
I want to believe that Drake will make the right choice, but siding with Apoo to save his skin is no different from siding with Luffy to save his skin, it all depends on what kind of marine Diez Drake is.
But seriously, as much as I'm relieved that Kin and Kiku are alive, it doesn't silence the people who say 'people don't die in One Piece', I mean Kanjuro is running on evaporation somehow with worse wounds than Kiku's single impaling, hell Ulti pushed through worse against Big Mom. But at the least it means that the Akazaya still have a part to play.

One Piece Chapter 995: Initial Thoughts
Tumblr media
And the count drops to 5 After a long week break One Piece is back to continue the back and forth of the Onigashima Raid, looks like Chapter 1000 may still remain in Act 3 which is...concerning, since Act 4 is meant to be the tragedy parts But for now, we see what 995 has to offer Spoilers for Chapter 995 of course, Support the Official Release Too!
It was a bit strange seeing a chapter cover after the whole Bege story ended XD But Luffy with an owl teacher is fun, and the squirrels
We however start on the outskirts, Big Mom vs Marco, and he’s kinda holding his own. It is worth noting that his fire seems to hurt Prometheus and Zeus looks out of commission still
Marco stating that he ‘doesn’t know his role yet’ is a bit of a worrisome flag, bug I do have an idea
BM does pin Marco down the easy way though, just grab him. Seems that Perospero’s alliance was super short lived - alliances and betrayal going hand in hand
But he gloated too much and Wanda and Carrot jump in in their Su Long forms! Peros is lucky he isn’t blinded, I mean he kinda should be, he has enough scars
‘You crazy furry’ - I don’t care if Viz changes that this is the canon line and hilarious!
BM seems to recognize Carrot though, which continues to bode the question: why didn’t she get a bounty for rinsing a line of a Yonko’s fleet? Franky did less in Enies Lobby and got a bounty
Wanda’s Su Long is kinda expected, but it’s good to see that she wants to avenge Pedro too, despite Peros’ objections. Gotta worry a little though, very easy to lose one of them in a 2v1 situation
Big Mom bouncing is strange though, she’s basically ditching her eldest injured son. What she says is interesting too, she doesn’t have any souls to use against Marco, meaning at this current point she’s somewhat weakened in terms of damage output
Carrot and Wanda are letting Marco make chase though, however the Ice Demons is where I expect him to gravitate towards
The Apoo chase is for the most part turning everyone against him, but in that manner also turning Kaido’s lesser forces against him
Tonfa is a unique choice of weapon for Apoo, maybe the extra joints allow more movement with them, but he should not last long against Drake and Zoro both going at him
Zoro vocally noting that he wants to support Kin’emon is telling, Oda is intentionally keeping Zoro away from Kaido
Drake though having no filter ‘I’ve always hated you’ - like cold blooded
Queen though seems to have eyes on Zoro, but he’s gonna be very rudely awakened if he tries it thinking that he’s merely the ‘3rd best fighter’. His musing about Sanji is interesting though, he doesn’t say Germa or the Evil Army, he says ‘Judge’s Son’ - implied familiarity? Oh lord what if Sanji’s uncle is Queen!? Both are blonde scientific geniuses
Brook being immune to Ice Oni does make a lot of sense, it may also become a key factor in getting to Apoo or Queen but he’s basically now a walking infection that he may be able to use, but Chopper is mulling how the virus works
And doesn’t notice that he’s got it too! Strange he didn’t feel it though huh? There is of course now the worry of ‘Healer Down’ but Chopper can change his shape to limit the spread, this also gives him a chance to self-treat an antidote or just allow a Pineapple to heal him with his healing flames
I do have worry about that Number-shaped shadow on the panel where Brook is saying he’s invincible, it’s got its eyes on Chopper
We finally get over to Usopp and Nami vs Ulti and Pay-Pay...though it’s turned out to just be Usopp vs Ulti and Pay-Pay.
Interestingly, Usopp seems able to handle Ulti from range, but with both it is a struggle. Ulti’s heart though
Unfortunately he seems to be on the end of ‘another’ headbutt. An Alabasta-esque Fatality showing Usopp’s skull very much cracked...surprised he has any bones left in his nose
Ulti turns her eyes to a felled Nami, but we’re shown Beast Pirates fleeing from outside, which should’ve really given away that an ally was coming
Nami definitely doesn’t want to die so pulls the bargaining, but Ulti wants her to retract Luffy’s statement about being Pirate King
PANDAMAN SMILE! Just...wow
I’m a little let down by Usopp though, even if it’s lying to stay alive to be okay with Nami saying that Luffy won’t be Pirate King doesn’t sit well, it feels like it contrasts his Alabasta moment as well when he refused to allow Luffy to be insulted
But Nami won’t say it, she says that he will, so it’s nice that Nami gets that moment too
And here to save Nami is Komachiyo rode in by Tama!
Sweet Child it’s cool that you’re here but this battlefield is not safe for you!
So yeah, really good chapter regarding developments, the picture does continue to become clearer. Big Mom is back on the loose, but without Zeus and Prometheus she is weakened. Marco is becoming aware of the Ice Oni - which Brook and Chopper are infected with but only the latter subject to its damage. Queen looks to eliminate Zoro. Carrot and Wanda are to fight Perospero and Tama has come for support right where Usopp and Nami are facing Ulti and Pay-Pay.
It all leads to interesting routes, of course Zoro vs Queen is a big one but I do see Drake jumping in on that, maybe even Hawkins, Apoo, Brook and/or Who’s Who, he isn’t the most popular of All Stars after all. I do still think Marco will save Chopper and the floor from Ice Oni, Chopper will be able to uncover the key part of it before fully turning, but through that Chopper can get that W over the Plague. I worry about Carrot and Wanda vs Perospero, I think Peros may get some help, he has a whole crew at the bottom of the Waterfall loaded as Chekov’s gun, but with the rest of the Minks falling back from the Dome as well it could be Minks vs Big Mom pirates. I worry most for Wanda because she is another one of Carrot’s close mink friends, she could easily lose a lot from this especially from the clock of Su Long. Seeking vengeance rarely goes the way people expect, I kinda hope that Carrot gets clarity and returns to support Luffy and co, mainly because I am Carrot4Nakama - I doubt she’s got her fill from adventure and she could easily get a bounty post-Wano (I even think her nickname of ‘Moon Rabbit’ would be suitable). While I thought that the title would relate to Shinobu, I did correctly predict Tama rolling up in my Mini-Theory Mashup Wano Edition (Link Here), she is far too much of a pivotal character to be kept away from this, she is a key factor as well. Not only will her arrival kick Usopp and Nami’s protective senses into gear to potentially get the W against Ulti and Pay-Pay (who while I enjoy their dynamic it’s a rough spot when they’re fighting people I like) but she also has influence factors with Luffy and Big Mom. She can be the later kick up the ass for Luffy to remember what he is fighting for but for Big Mom she can be the changing factor, Tama is who drove O-Lin to Udon, whether Big Mom has memories of Tama could in turn prove beneficial for the alliance in having BM turn on Kaido, if she runs in on Nami and Usopp too this could lead to Nami gaining an advantage by reclaiming Zeus.
But yeah, a lot of this was what others are doing aside from the Luffy, Yamato and Scabbards situation, we still are due to see Caribou, Team Law, Team Kid and Hiyori and who that shadowed person is (still think it’s Moria) but we still have 5 more chapters to go fill the big 1000

One Piece Chapter 1011 - Initial Thoughts
Tumblr media
Man the breaks feel longer and longer don't they
But after a monster of a chapter 2 weeks ago we are back for some more One Piece goodness
less waiting, more reading!
Spoilers for Chapter 1011 of course, Support the Official Release
A Color Page for this one, Giant Nami - it's a wonder how Sanji is alive right now - and everyone else enjoying sweets, no hidden stuff here I don't think
I was right! She replaced Zeus, introducing Hera...odd name choice really given how Hera doesn't control lightning and is the aggrieved wife/sister of Zeus
But that's still some power, and Kid's injured enough or out of range so now Zeus is free
Law dips with Zoro and Zeus, though he seems unaware of Hera even though lightning makes a hell of a noise, but now we have a bit of a chase to play
Careful Kaido your respect is showing, he's salivating this fight too
It's not the Clash of Kings but damn is it good to look at
Basil Nooooooo! I really wanted you to go back to your fellow supernova
Though he is just following percentages right now :/ still though, he can be so much more if allowed to be an ally
Looks like the stage is set for Hawkins vs Killer, he's in his straw demon form though which as I recall was a bit of a weakness as well as a strength, creepy legs though
92% damn so he's not the 'certain someone' from before, and with 120 beri over Killer it's not gonna be an easy fight
And now back to Tama, Nami and Usopp to poke away at hybrid Pay Pay on Komachiyo
Those are a lot of vital points yes, Nami
Poor doggo is getting tired though, the Live Stage is the destination she wants though so she can control everyone
Usopp Uncles can be younger so long as you have a much older sibling with a kid
But seeing Tama scared does prove to be a motivator for Usopp, laying him with some close range snipe shots
'How do you like them apples?' - well that is a power pose, even if it didn't finish him
Oda making it clear that the dangos won't work on Zoans, so no pet Kaido for Tama
WHOA OKAY BIG MOM IS THERE
But she remembers precious child Tama!
Prometheus stop grimacing, Tama is a bundle of joy you're not allowed to be mean to her by default
Wait they burned it all down!? But what about Tsuru! You can't just off-screen her like that she's Kin'emon's wife!
I hope the official is also 'to be executed' at least then there's a time opening
Okay, here's the anger switch
Big Mom's Standards save the day, and wreck Pay-Pay with a Conqueror's Armament hit - that'll do nicely
The impact has clocked Kid and Zeus to where Big Mom is though, could be bad
Ulti...I feel bad but also he's the enemy, but also Big Mom is the enemy, everyone is the enemy but I have so much conflicted feelings!
But then another break D: Oda please man!
Well, we hoped Big Mom may help the alliance through Tama and damn did we get it. Big Mom has always had a subjective moral compass and the kindness given to her by Okobore town looks to pay dividends. How she will react to Nami and Usopp is a up in the air, as will it be if Kid finds Big Mom and wants to kill her, it's all getting messy allegiance-wise, if she gets Perospero to help then there's conflict with Carrot and Marco to juggle too.
As I said I'm a little let down Hawkins didn't switch sides, but the odds still seem to favour Kaido it seems, I wonder if BM will be the turning point. I still hope so but wanting to kill Killer isn't a good look.
Hopefully now we'll resume the inner-floors fights, still need to see Robin and Brook vs Maria, Jimbei vs Who's Who, Sanji's choice, Kid and Law's crew's attacks, Franky vs Sasaki, Inu vs Jack and what remains of Queen, King and Apoo's conflicts with Chopper, Marco and Drake. Not to mention the Momonosuke stuff and Kanjuro, wherever Caribou is and whether Hiyori is here to take down Orochi.
But, another wait. I still feel bad for Ulti because I still enjoy their dynamic, and it's gonna be tough to see what she'll do considering that she cannot take Big Mom, overall we've thrown a spanner in the works and now we have to simmer again...
