Boy Like Me

Eddie Munson x Fem! Harrington! Reader

Word Count: 1500

Summery: Eddie Munson having a crush on Harrington! Reader and not thinking he's good enough for her!

(Reader is two years younger than Eddie and a year younger than Steve)

She's the only girl I see..

She don't wanna be with a boy like me..

Eddie remembered the first time he'd ever seen Y/N Harrington. The younger sister to Steve Harrington..

At that stupid talent show.. His head was still shaved and he played the guitar in his band. He could still remember her little cheer she did with all her little friends. Eddie liked her from that moment on.. She was just so cute.

He didn't try talking to her even then.. He knew who her brother was. Steve was King even then. Eddie also knew that she was far from in his league.. So he spared himself the pure embarrassment of talking to her.

She makes my heart beat a little faster..

Her life is perfect, mine's a disaster..

She wouldn't call me even if I asked her..

Eddie's crush on Y/N stayed with him as he worked his way through high school.. She was just so perfect and sweet. As he watched her from a far he could see the perfectness of her. She never came to school without a smile.

She was smart and beautiful.. Her future was looking bright.. Unlike Eddie Munson's. Eddie was a very smart person.. He just wasn't so good in school. He hated it.. It wasn't his fault. He just could never stay focused long enough to care about what the teacher was talking about. Unlike him, everyone likes Y/N. Even if her brother wasn't Steve Harrington everyone would still like, even love, Y/N.

Eddie remembers that in his Junior year.. Y/N's Freshman year.. They had Spanish together and were partnered up for a project. Eddie didn't bother giving his number to Y/N. She wouldn't call.. He could see how nervous she was. It was a small project thank goodness. One they could get done with little communication and all within class time.. Still in the back of his mind Eddie had hoped she would give him her number or her ask for his..

Many a boys tried their go around with Y/N. But none of them were enough to hold her interest. Eddie watched as boy after boy flirted with Y/N. And Eddie watched boy after boy fail to keep her interested. Eddie always wondered what was happening behind those eyes.. He wondered what she thought about as she laid on her bed looking at her ceiling. Or what she thought of the boys who tried and failed. Eddie just wanted it to be his turn. His heart had been taken hostage by her.. Surely he could do the same to hers.

She watches movies on her big screen..

She got a beamer when she was 16..

Eddie remembered the day Y/N pulled into the parking lot in her new car. The way all her friends crowded her in the new wheels. How she smiled as she got out with the keys twirling on her finger.. She didn't pay a cent for it.. Yet she was still so proud to be the one sitting in the drivers seat.

Eddie also remembered the sour feeling he got after school.. After Hellfire when he sat in his own beat up Van.

Man I'm a loser and she's the prom queen..

Yeah she only hangs out with the kids in the cool scene..

Eddie didn't go to Prom his second time in Senior year. However he was at lunch when the Home Coming court was announced. Y/N was a Junior that year. She was the nominated prom queen for the Juniors. Along side Jason Carver.

She sat with the cheerleaders everyday. She herself was a cheerleader. But she wasn't like them. Even Eddie could see that she was different from the large majority of the population at Hawkins. She might not hangout with people like Eddie but deep down Eddie knew that Y/N wasn't like Jason or Patrick or Tina.

I don't wanna live another day like this..

In a world where she don't even know that I exist..

Y/N was in her Senior year before Eddie found the courage to talk to her properly. And even in that moment it wasn't even Eddie talking to her.

Dustin and Mike had both forgotten their wallets at home.. So they went to the only available option..

They stopped Y/N as she walked by the table and begged her for food money promising they'd pay her back. She gave them a big smile as she giggled and pulled out her wallet. Eddie remembers how fast his heart was beating as he watched the freshman talk to her with no problem.. Like they'd done it a million times before.. Which they had..

That night after Hellfire it was raining so he loaded Lucas, Dustin and Mike's bikes into the back of his van and shoved them in too. Dustin sat in the front and Mike and Lucas sat in the back. "Soo.." He'd spoke cooly. Like he'd done a million times before. "You guys know Y/N Harrington?" He asked and Lucas who hadn't been there at lunch perked up and made eye contact with Mike who looked just as confused. "Yeah.. She's like a big sister." Dustin said slowly trying to read the room as he looked back at Lucas and Mike. "Would you ever maybe.. introduce me to her?" He asked and the three freshman began to chuckle. "Why don't you just talk to her yourself? Invite her to a campaign. She'd love it." Lucas said with a genuine smile. "She used to play with us all the time!" Dustin piped up with a happy smile. "I don't know if that's such a good idea.." Eddie muttered his hands tightening around his steering wheel. "Do you have a crush on her?" Mike asked and Eddie's Adams apple bobbed as he gulped. "No! No.. It's just um.. She's really cool.." Eddie said and Dustin's face scrunched. "Doesn't she go against everything you stand for?" Dustin asked and Eddie shrugged. "She's so out of your league dude." Mike said and Lucas chuckled as he hit Mike's arm. "I'll introduce you two. She's taking us home tomorrow anyhow."

Dustin stayed true to his words because around 5:30 in the Hellfire room a knock echoed through the room. "Shit! That's probably our ride!" Lucas cursed as Mike opened the door to Y/N who was patiently waiting in the door way. "Sorry! I know it's not good to break the tension!" She spoke with a light pink on her cheek. "You-your good! We were just about done an-anyhow." Eddie's blush wasn't so subtle.. His face and even the tips of his ears were a bright red.. His hands were become sweaty messes and he was stuttering. Dustin couldn't help the smirk that came to his face. "Al-rightly. Well Y/N, this is Jeff, Gareth and Eddie." Dustin said pointing. Eddie looked up at his name and Y/N gave them all kind smiles and a little wave. Her pretty eyes locking with Eddie's and he felt his heart about to beat out of his chest.

Dustin liked how much Y/N flustered Eddie.. But what the best part was.. Y/N was flustered around Eddie too. And everyone saw it but the two of them.

Dustin took advantage of Eddie's crush by hosting Hellfire at his house one night and inviting Y/N. He made sure it was a day she was free so she could for sure come to said Hellfire meet.

She's the only girl I see..

Eddie was a good Dungeon Master, great some might say. He had amazing energy and he genuinely had fun while doing it.. That didn't stop when Y/N was there.. But she did make it difficult. She was good.. It made him nervous. He never saw a girl, let alone a cheerleader, let alone THE QUEEN of Hawkins high to ever be playing D&D with him.

It made his feelings for her grow tremendously. Y/N didn't even know it.. But she had Eddie wrapped around her fingers in a way no one else ever had. She was in a very different group than the Hellfire club- yet she wore Dustin's extra shirt with pride as she played with the boys. She had a smile on her face when she rolled the 17 that killed Eddie's boss... Eddie couldn't stop the beating in his chest as everyone cheered for her..

Despite Y/N's obvious feelings for Eddie he remained oblivious.. And you know what.. So did she.

But Dustin and everyone else could see right through it and Dustin made a promise to himself to set the two of them up. Eddie was his idol and Dustin adored Y/N. The two were a match made it Heaven! If only they could pull their heads out for a second and see the feelings they shared for one another.

I really like that song and listening to it lately had made me think of Eddie in a situation like this and so I decided to write about it!

super curious today about how people feel toward the names they might have been given. apparently i used to ask my mom about my “boy name” several times a week and get really sad i couldn’t have both my given name and that name. being trans this is hilarious to me now so wondering

Accessibility tip:

If you want to automate your home a bit, but you don't want any "smart" tech, you can just buy remote controlled power sockets instead

They are a lot cheaper and easier to set up and use than some home automation smart tech nonsense

They don't need an app (but some models come with optional apps and there are apps that are compatible with most of these)

Many of them use the 433mhz frequency to communicate, which makes most models compatible with each other, even if they are from different manufacturers

The tech has been around for a long time and will be around for a long time to come

You don't have to put any fucking corporate listening devices like an amazon echo in your home

Models for outdoors exist as well

LGBTQ Book Recommendations

In the year that has seen the heartwarming second season of Heartstopper comes the news two school districts in the US states of Florida and Oregon have banned the graphic novels and a public library in Mississippi removed the works from the shelves claiming they were somehow “pornographic.” It never seems to fail; every time there is societal progress, you have a wave of those throwing up restrictions trying desperately to pull everything and everyone back.

This heinous attack on LGBTQ literature, works on the African American experience, and tragic historical events are why we fight back everyday to keep these works available for all who seek their content especially during Banned Books Week. It’s not about corrupting or grooming the youth; it’s about truth, love, life, compassion, and understanding one another. What follows are seven LGBTQ books by seven different authors you may want to consider reading beyond Heartstopper, Fence, and Love, Simon. Remember, just because your favorite book isn’t here doesn’t mean I didn’t like it or you shouldn’t give try. Always enrich your perspective by trying a variety of works in the plethora now available. Happy Banned Books Week!

1. Boy Like Me by Simon James Green – I first ran across this author when I read his book Alex in Wonderland a few years ago being greatly amused by the antics of boy working a summer job. It is very fitting to begin with this recent release set in a UK High School back in 1994 during Section 28 banning books on gay relationships. The main character, Jamie, is lead to such a disguised novel where he finds a connection to his own personal truths and to a mysterious other person who feels the same way. Will Jamie ever find this other person or will they be forever shunned by their small community? It’s always a important to remember where we’ve been so that we can better guide ourselves to where we need to be.

2. The Music of What Happens by Bill Konigsberg – Two boys operate a food truck Coq Au Vinny for the summer out in the heat of Mesa, Arizona. Max, a baseball jock, is trying hard to forget a rough experience with a college boy while hanging out with his friends and working. Geeky Jordan, is trying to raise the money with his late father’s old food truck and keep his mother from spiraling while hanging out with his gal pals. Along the way they find friendship and love while working through their past traumas and current struggles. Easily one of my favorites.

3. Check, Please! Book 1: #Hockey by Ngozi Ukazu – Join baking vlogger Erik “Bitty” Bittle from Georgia as he makes his way through the first two years playing hockey at Samwell University in New England. Originally an online comic, this first volume in a two part set explores Bitty’s time interacting with the team and getting closer with their Captain, Zimmerman. This was a charming story with entertaining characters, and, of course, the love of hockey. Be sure to also read Check, Please! Book 2: Sticks & Scones.

4. Lions Legacy by L.C. Rosen – Tennessee “Tenny” Russo had tried to leave his adventuring days with his father’s reality show behind and have a normal life with his mom in Greenwich Village. Two years later, his boyfriend is cheating on him, his “Good Upstanding Queer” friends don’t care, and his dad comes back into his life with a potential lead on the Rings of the Sacred Band of Thebes. Tenny could stay miserable in New York or join his father in Greece to recover a lost piece of queer history to share with the world. A wonderful, thrilling story heavily influenced by Indiana Jones exploring struggle of keeping LGBT history from being swept under the rug or modified to fit a heteronormative viewpoint.

5. Thunder by Dylan James – Teenage Grant Peters and Logan Summers have been long neighbors and rivals on the rodeo circuit in the upper plains of the United State or Canada. With his parents thinking of selling the ranch due to a drop in profits, Grant is desperate to find a way to keep competing with his beloved horse Thunder. He stumbles across evidence of a cougar attack and is drawn into an investigation along the property line with his nemesis, Logan. Along the way, the boys develop a connection and uncover a secret hidden from both families. Will they make it out alive?

6. Howl by Shaun David Hutchinson – When Virgil Knox stumbled into the town center of Merritt, Florida battered, bloody, and raving about the monster that attacked him, nobody would believe him, not even his own grandparents. Already struggling to make friends in his dad’s hometown after his parents’ divorce, Virgil knows what he saw and finds himself reliving that night. Can Virgil find a way to move on with his life? Will the monster find him again? Is he on his way to becoming one himself?

7. In Deeper Waters by F.T. Lukens – Prince Tal has a secret. Fire mages are not to be trusted ever since his ancestor used the ability to fight wars against the other kingdoms and practitioners of other magic, the ability has been shunned. The mysterious castaway Athlen also has a secret that enables him to somehow survive the deep oceans. Together the boys will survive pirates, kidnapping plots, shapeshifters, and a grand political plot threatening the kingdom and Tal’s sister, the queen. Can they stop a war before it’s too late?
