The story behind Bryan Miller's notorious "Zombie Hunter" persona surfaced in court Wednesday, as Miller's attorneys fight to spare the convicted double murderer from the death penalty.

Before his arrest in 2015, Miller would regularly dress up as the character, appearing at events around Phoenix in his signature helmet, mask and goggles, carrying a large fake gun and driving his modified police car spattered with faux blood.

He would attend comic conventions and other fandom-related events as the Zombie Hunter, building a reputation within the tight-knit costuming community.

Now Miller is facing the prospect of a death sentence, after being convicted last month of murdering Angela Brosso in 1992 and Melanie Bernas in 1993.

The brutal murders of the two young women, randomly attacked as they cycled along Phoenix canals, shocked the city when they occurred 30 years ago. Both young women were stabbed fatally in the back before being mutilated and sexually assaulted as or after they died.

The case ran cold for two decades before Miller was arrested in 2015, following a forensic breakthrough in which detectives matched his DNA to samples at the crime scenes.

Things that absolutely fucked my shit up this episode, an incomprehensible list:

- Ellie liked the smell of Frank’s sleeping bag

- Joel still wearing Frank’s shirt

- Joel staying up all night to guard while Ellie slept

- “They’re not gonna hit you. Look at me, they’re not gonna hit you.”

- “Mom! Mom! Mom!”

- The way the doctor gave the lines “I delivered you. I held you in my hands.” and “I’m your doctor” so simply when asked for reasons why he shouldn’t be killed

- Ellie’s smile when Joel tried to tug the gun from her hand

- The way Joel bumbled his way through trying to make sure Ellie was okay, and ask if she wanted to talk about it after she shot Bryan

- All of the superhero drawings on the wall that Sam drew of him and Henry

- The mask that Sam had drawn on his face

Something about how everyone is undeniably human, and how unafraid they are of not shying away from that.

Batgirl (2009) #14 is the gayest comic I've ever read, bless Bryan Q. Miller.

That "Oh, hey." was gay as fuck. Secret identity to hide from mom = her bisexuality💖💜💙. Lucky thing Kara was able to get changed so quickly because her mom "has no idea she's bi Batgirl".

Also that "Can Stephanie come out to play" vs "You girls stay out of trouble" is far from subtle bro.

Their little date then which went from watch a movie to actually hunting vampires.

"You know how to show a girl a good time..."🥰

cuts to Steph's BEDROOM, both of them having cleaned themselves up. The poster on the wall reads “the dating” too.

AHHH. That's so painfully gay and just painful. They're so definitely more than just best friends but it's all so complicated; their lives are pretty incongruent plus their little nightly adventures are a secret.

At least, they make that deal to give each other a call when they "feel alone" and "don't have criminals to hero at" and the literal US isn't out for their heads and it's presumably nighttime... I wonder what fun they'll get up to🤷‍♀️.

Also don't worry, Steph's mom found out that she's bisexual Batgirl, and she accepts her. Yay!!!
