A heroin (diamorphine) or other opiate/opioid addict may use codeine to ward off the effects of withdrawal during periods where their preferred drug is unavailable or unaffordable.
Codeine is also available in conjunction with the anti-nausea medication promethazine in the form of a syrup. Brand named as Phenergan with Codeine or in generic form as promethazine with codeine, it began to be mixed with soft drinks in the 1990s as a recreational drug, called 'syrup', 'lean', or 'purple drank'. Rapper Pimp C, from the group UGK, died from an overdose of this combination.
Codeine is used in illegal drug laboratories to make morphine.

CVS Health to acquire Signify Health for $8B
Tumblr media
- By Nuadox Crew -
On September 5, US-based healthcare company CVS Health announced it has agreed to acquire value-based care giant Signify Health for approximately $8 billion.
CVS Health (NYSE: CVS) and Signify Health (NYSE: SGFY) ("Signify") have entered into a definitive agreement under which CVS Health will acquire Signify Health for $30.50 per share in cash, representing a total transaction value of approximately $8 billion.
Signify Health is a leader in Health Risk Assessments, value-based care and provider enablement. With a network of more than 10,000 clinicians across all 50 states and a nationwide value-based provider network, combined with its proprietary analytics and technology platforms, Signify Health is improving patient engagement, patient outcomes and care coordination for stakeholders across the health care system. Signify Health's clinicians and providers can have an even greater impact by engaging with CVS Health's unique collection of assets and connecting patients to care how and when they need it.
Signify Health's network of clinicians physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants utilize home-based visits to identify a patient's clinical and social needs, and then connect them to appropriate follow-up care and community-based resources in order for the patient to have a more connected, effective care experience. In 2022, Signify Health's clinicians expect to connect with nearly 2.5 million unique members in the home, both in-person and virtually, and on average they spend 2.5 times longer with a patient in the home than providers spend in the average primary care office visit.
Following the close of the transaction, Kyle Armbrester (ed note: the current CEO of Signify Health) will continue to lead Signify Health as part of CVS Health.
The transaction was approved by the Board of Directors at each of the respective companies. It is subject to approval by a majority of Signify Health's stockholders, receipt of regulatory approval and satisfaction of other customary closing conditions.
CVS Health and Signify Health anticipate that the transaction will close in the first half of 2023.

New scam!
At least, new to me. My daughter was seriously ill earlier in the week (doing much better, now). She had to pick up medicine from a CVS local to her college in Pennsylvania.
This morning I got a call, and the caller id said "CVS pharmacy." While there is certainly no reason for them to call me - an insurance issue? Maybe? - I picked it up. The person on the other end told me, in a heavy Indian* accent, he was calling from CVS (no name, though). He asked for my daughter by her full name. I told him that she was not available, but that I was her mother. He then asked me for her date of birth. "Uh-unh," I told him, "YOU called ME." He spluttered momentarily, and I hung up.
My husband, who is both more patient with phone menus and substantially more confrontational than I, called the CVS. They confirmed that their store had not tried to contact us, and he told them (quite nicely) that they had some kind of data breach, and their patients' names and home phone numbers were compromised. He ended up getting transferred up to their corporate office, to an office relating to that sort of thing. It took him quite a while, but he did manage to get across to them that someone had hacked them in some way and was also able to spoof caller id to pretend more successfully to BE them.
They seemed to be genuinely glad to be notified, and sincere in promising to try to track the issue down.
But. Shit. All these years, one of the only helpful things has been that the caller id of the scammers never matches who they claim to be when you pick up. If they can access pharmacy data, even just names and phone numbers, (which is BAD ENOUGH) and then call right after you've had a visit, how many people ARE going to get fooled by that?
'* I'm aware that 'Indian' is not a language - but I do not know how to distinguish Hindu/Tamil/Urdu/etc accents for ESL speakers.
