reblog this and tag with a food you no longer have access to (closed restaurant, state you moved away from, ex’s mom’s cooking, etc) that will haunt you until your dying day, mine are the spicy chicken sandwich on the employee menu at the fine dining restaurant I was a prep cook at, and the onion bagel from the kosher place down the street from my house when I lived in the city
On a day you have slightly more energy than usual, get a whole bag of yellow onions, slice them into thin slices, and throw them into a slow cooker on low with half a stick (or more, butter is good for you) of butter for 8-12 hours. When they are nice and caramelized, spread them in a thin layer on a cookie sheet to freeze, but kind of score the layer in a grid pattern so you can break them into squares once frozen. That will give you enough caramelized onions for literal months, just throw a square or two into any soup, hash, sauce, whatever and it will taste like it took hours with no extra effort at that time.
a fun thing you can do when you're a grownup is buy a bunch of ingredients and make 6 litres of spaghetti sauce in a big pot and divide it up into a bunch of containers and put it in the freezer!
My greenhouse onions look like a school of fish, I love them! I wasn't sure I'd be able to grow onions in the aquaponic towers above the fish tank because, well, there's no soil and they're very squished in vertical towers, but they just went "no worries we'll adapt" and grew vertically in this nice ocarina shape
Headcanon that spawn Astarion will insist on cutting all of the onions for a romanced Tav/Durge when they're cooking.
When it's just them traveling together, and Gale's not on regular stew duty anymore, Astarion becomes more aware that it takes quite a bit of time to prep food (compared to his slurping schedule), so he gets bored and curious and starts hanging around while they do it.
At first, he'll make corny quips about how he can't stand to see them cry, so he simply must intervene (but really hearing the sniffling the first few times does trigger his 'is my darling okay??' response so it's not entirely untrue).
Over time he does it before they can even reach for the onion, and he'll joke about helping them "feed" like they do for him and also show off with fun knife tricks while he's doing it 👀 He'll branch out into chopping other things just to speed up the process and spend more time together. (Also, for more showing off).
