i keep seeing criticism of Armored Core VI in terms of the difficulty and...i just don't get it???

maybe it's because i've played so many fighter jet games (Ace Combat, Project Wingman, War Thunder) that i'm used to the idea of always being on the move, changing directions to dodge attacks? (Japanese mecha are conceptually closer to fighter jets, while more Western mechs resemble tanks, after all)

plus, i've never been one to "main" anything in a shooter game, so completely reworking loadouts based on circumstance is just kinda second nature?

i guess it's just that the game is meant to have a very specific vibe to it, and people are disappointed that it isn't what they expected?

although seriously how is the tutorial boss so hard for people it's a HELICOPTER. you MOVE when it shoots at you??? you know, to dodge the missiles by moving at several hundreds of kilometers per hour??? you use the PLENTIFUL hard cover, like in any other shooter game??????? it has a MASSIVE attack deadzone directly underneath it??? also, i've played enough War Thunder to know how vulnerable aircraft are to melee attacks. in other words, skill issue (half-joking)

I wanted to say, bc I saw someone mention Geralt as an example of a predetermined character in an rpg that works, that yeah, I fully agree it can work! But in Geralt's case, for example, he's a well established character who's fully written before you start the game. He has his own traits, his flaws and shortcomings, history, relationships, etc. He's just as well written as any other character in the story, and the only things you have power over are his choices and a bit of his fighting style(sometimes his hair as well), but everything is made to fit with who this character is as established before the game even starts. Think of the origin characters in Baldur's Gate 3, it's the same thing- they're not customizable, they're established before you even start, and the only control you have is over their journey. None of these are ever meant to be a blank slate, and they're written as such.

With this Phyre character it's like they're trying so so hard to tread the line between "this is a character that stands on their own" and "this is a blank slate you can fully customize". What you end up with is a very "meh" sort of character, who's not one or the other, without enough wiggle room to make your own story however you want and not enough to get attached to them as they are. We get attached to Geralt bc he's a fully written character in the game, you just control his actions. The problem with Phyre is that they're neither a fully written character nor fully yours to write.

#and like ok it's normal to have limitations #like for example dragon age has background limitations right #but things are still left open enough that you can easily make your own story with those limitations #a story which could be wildly different from another player who chose the same background #and that's the fun of it #but this isn't it #you can't even customize their appearence for starters #which is a big part of a character's writing. you can't write a black character for example if you're forced to play as a pale woman #how could you write a native american who maybe never cut their hair bc of their culture when you're forced to play as mr or mrs undercut #honestly I think either you commit to making them a blank slate and allow as much customization as possible #or you just write a predetermined character that's actually compelling #sleep.txt #vtmb2 #but anyway this is just my opinion rn with the current information #I could be wrong idk!! maybe they did it right. maybe when the game comes out it'll be so good I'll have to eat my words #but rn I'll be honest with u chief I'm not feeling very optimistic

i have no dex info for 99% of the mons as of right now, so no Shuichi lore- but he do be existing!

i made him a reaper themed Sea Krait cause i associate him with snakes and reapers. and of course one of his final designs is intended to be based on Kagehara- i couldn't not do it. i'm also currently unhappy with his shiney so it's still in shop rn

there is a planned collective theme for the starter trio, but because i haven't worked out how to implement it into Makoto and Hajime's deisgns yet (im working on Hajime rn and his designs are giving me alot of grief).

but in other starters news, thanks to my mom i have interesting animals to base the other two off of. my mom threw star-nosed mole Makoto and flying fox Hajime at me- so those are going to be interesting

Rune, do you think you haven’t learned any fairy moves because vulpixes can’t learn fairy moves by level up?

Rune: Um... Inigo, I can learn a fairy-type move naturally, right?

Inigo: What? Of course you can. What kind of pokemon can't learn a move that's the same type as their evolution? Baby-Doll Eyes can be learned by even a bunch of normal-types. And for offensive moves, you'll probably get Fairy Wind. That one is pretty common.

I love playing Pokémon in a way that would absolutely kill anyone who knows a thing about the game. No I don’t know most weaknesses and strengths of typings or what I should be using. No I’m not building a well rounded team. No I don’t remember battle to battle what moves are effective against what Pokémon’s even if I just fought them and lord knows I don’t really understand their power or literally any stat my mons have. I am heavily brute forcing my way through this game with my team full of Sunflora fusions because this is Infinite Fusions and I can do that. Yes having everyone a grass type presents problems. No I don’t care! I will beef them up enough they can tank hits until I can destroy whoever I’m fighting and if all else fails I have potions and revives and everything I need on stock to keep going. I do not know what I’m doing but I’m having fucking fun with it!!!!

He also does have a Sunflora sprite which is sad but the Sunkern one is fucking epic #the rest of my team includes Vensaur/Sunflora (my starter) #raichu/Sunflora fusion (Who I had in my last run and an absolute cutie) Ninetales/Sunflora (who thankfully has an ability that makes him #immune to fire moves) Umbreon/Sunflora (Literally baby. also a bit of a heavy hitter) #and my Lapras/Sunflora (my newest edition who replaced the Sandslash mostly so I can surf) #I can’t wait to destroy the Elite 4 when I eventually roll up there with my crew #Truly they’re all unstoppable as long as you don’t use fire and also that one move that literally takes them all out #anyways I need to get a photo of them all because they’re so cute but for now take my word #and know I’m playing Pokémon in a way that will piss off so many people. because I’m just quirky like that

Sometimes, Ali needed to get out of the house. Living with his mother was constricting. She wanted to know everything he was doing. It was as if he wasn't a grown man! Being a homebody wasn't as much fun as it used to be and he found himself buying a lot more coffee, if only to have the option to finish out his work day somewhere else. He had dozens of essays still to read, little time in which to do it. He had already put it off a couple of times. Now, he had no choice.

With his laptop in front of him, his eyes raked over the latest essay - trying to figure out how they were going to connect this paragraph to the overall topic. It didn't seem plausible. As he let out a soft sigh, he picked up his mug and took a sip. "I question my teaching abilities more each time I go to grade one of these essays," he announced to nobody in particular.
