Titanic Myths and Misconceptions, pt2.
[part 1, feat.  "not enough lifeboats", "untrained crew", "no lifeboat drills" and "speeding & ignoring ice warnings", here]
"The Titanic lowered lifeboats half filled"
Now this is true! Here's a breakdown of which lifeboats went down when and with how many people in them (approximately, since we’re not sure on some and the last two literally washed off the deck). However, this is often framed in two ways: Titanic's officers were inexperienced and thus couldn't load the boats fully in time (we already covered this) or Titanic's officers were stopping men and third class passengers from entering.
Reality is once again more complicated than that. To make one thing clear, yes, Officer Lightoller was specifically not allowing men in via the boat deck, apart from crew members who were needed to work the boats.
This stems from him interpreting Smith's "put the women and children in and lower away" order as "women and children only", while Murdoch interpreted it as "women and children first". Since the Birkenhead Drill was not a law but rather chivalric code that got implemented in different ways (or sometimes not at all), no interpretation can really be deemed as "wrong".
Now, Lightoller also indicated that he didn't consider loading the boats full before they were in the water as safe, mainly worrying about the strain on the construction. While Titanic's lifeboats were actually tested completely filled during her drills and Lightoller was aware of them, he was basically pulling on his years of experience at sea where lowering fully loaded lifeboats often resulted in tragedy. We don't know if Murdoch, who was in charge of the lifeboats on the other side of the ship, had the same reservations since he (probably, it's debated whether it was him or Wilde) shot himself before the ship went down.
And before people start vilifying Lightoller, he and the rest of the crew were actually planning on loading the lifeboats from the gangways down below. Besides seemingly being safer, this would avoid crowding on the boat deck and give folks who were down below a fighting chance. The crew thought the boat was going down in about an hour, that would not be enough time for all the 2nd and 3rd class passengers who largely occupied the lower decks to find their way up. Lightoller specifically sent down crew men to open the doors (which did happen almost everywhere, though the crew probably drowned or got trapped while doing so). We also have Boxhall saying that Smith was ordering boats to come back and load from the gangways during the sinking, which is also backed up by survivors. Now, this didn't happen. Why? Some boats were scared of being swamped (even after the ship went down), some thought they needed to get away quickly to avoid being sucked under water when the Titanic actually went down or being damaged by another boat. This actually almost happened, lifeboat 13 almost had lifeboat 15 lowered on their head when they had to row to the side to avoid water being released by a condenser exhaust.
But the crew were always planning on filling the boats up fully to their best ability, and as safely as possibly.
There's also the issue that especially at the start of the sinking no one wanted to get into the goddamn boats. Titanic's impact wasn't super dramatic, the damage she received was actually ridiculously small, only around 12-13 square feet/1.1-1.2 square meters. It took them awhile to figure out whether Titanic was actually sinking, since they needed to go down and see exactly where the damage was located (see the green lines here).
The only reason she sank is that the damage was spread over six watertight compartments. Freak bad luck.
But this also meant that Titanic sank very evenly and calmly for almost two hours. People frankly just did not think she was going down, and were understandably reluctant to get into tiny boats to be lowered into the ice cold, pitch black ocean when the big liner seemed so much safer. Some even went up to the boat deck, saw the boats, and decided to go back down to their cabins.
Additionally, people were reluctant to be separated from their families, which is understandable enough. The officers however, as I said, thought she was going down in about an hour and would probably capsize violently (that was Thomas Andrews', the chief designer's, estimate), so lowering the boats quickly was their priority, even if they were not filled.
Better to lower two boats quickly than to spend half an hour convincing people to get into one, because boats in the water could at least pick people up or load them from the gangways or water, while boats still chained on deck would go down with the ship (and they really had no time to spare, they didn’t even manage to launch the last two boats).
"Titanic's third class passengers were locked down below"
Now the third class passengers being locked down below is a combination of issues. For one, there were waist-high gates that locked off third class. These were there due to US immigration regulations. We also know that a lot of them were opened once the ship started going down (see testimonies linked below), though of course there is the possibility that they didn't get to all of them in time.
The testimony most often cited (and probably also used by Cameron as inspiration) is that of Daniel Buckley. He woke up due to "a terrible noise", immediately stepped into water, and decided that this was Not Good (which not everyone did, so good for him). His cabin is in the bow, so one of the first to be flooded.
He goes outside, encounters two sailors that shout "All up on deck! Unless you want to get drowned!". He also testifies that he went up on deck, then back down, and back up again before being given a lifejacket by a first class passenger.
When further asked, he does say that guys he thinks were sailors "tried to keep us down at first on our steerage deck. They did not want us to go up to the first class place at all". When asked whether there "was any effort made on part of the officers or crew to hold the steerage passengers in the steerage?" he says that "[he does] not think so".
Little bit of a contradiction at first glance.
However, there's a pretty logical explanation: the stewards and sailors wanted them to go up, but they wanted them to go up quickly and safely. Having passengers stream into the first class areas would not be beneficial, they did not know their way around and would most likely get lost, Titanic was a maze. We have examples like Minnie Coutts stating that she got lost and couldn’t find her way until a sailor guided her up.
The stewards were most likely trying to get the third class passengers to their own deck space, from where they could just walk up to the boat deck. This would also have the added benefit of having them go towards the stern, away from the flooding.
However, there's panic and confusion around (more in Third Class then elsewhere, since their compartments actually started to flood early) and a lot of the third class doesn't speak English. There were also only around 50 third class stewards for hundreds of passengers, and a handful of them were ordered to help out on the boat deck to launch the lifeboats early on.
So it's understandable that some situations may have arisen where Third Class passengers were held back from going through the first class spaces, not out of malicious intent, but actually in an attempt to get them up safely.
Not a lot of the third class stewards survived, so we obviously can't be sure, but we know that John Edward Hart took "his" passengers up personally for exactly those reasons, as did Albert Pearcy. They also both testify that the Chief Steward of the Third Class, James Kieran, ordered them to collect passengers and take them up.
We also have other third class passengers stating that to their knowledge, no passengers in steerage were prevented from going on (Berck Pickard, Olaus Abelseth).
There’s also often the idea that the rich passengers on board were given priority at the lifeboats. That is not the case, pretty much the sole factor up there was gender. It’s all over the inquiries, they’ll always mention how a crew men told them to get in, or how there were no women around at all. Dickinson H Bishop, Henry Blank and others were accused of dressing up as women to get into the boats or otherwise bribing their way in. If you were a man and had the audacity to survive, you better have a damn good reason for it.
We also have multiple very, very rich people dying. John Jacob Astor (at that point one of the richest men in the world with a net worth of over 2 billion), Isidore and Ida Straus (she refused to leave the ship without him), Benjamin Guggenheim, Archibald Butt (who was a close friend to president Taft) and his supposed boyfriend/partner/”[his] artist friend who lives with [him]” Francis Davis Millet. If there was priority given to the First Class/rich passengers, they were doing a bad job.
"They didn't see the ice berg because of the missing binoculars"
The famous missing binoculars. Remember officer David Blair, who was assigned elsewhere last minute since Wilde was pulled over from the Olympic? The story is that in his haste to leave Titanic, he accidentally took the keys for the locker that housed the binoculars intended for the lookouts with him. Fleet and Lee, the lookouts at the time of the collision, thus were unable to see the iceberg in time.
Now, there's actually quite a few oddities in this story. The whole idea that Blair took the key with him mostly originates from the testimony of another lookout, George Hogg, who said that "Mr. Blair was in the crow's-nest and gave me his glasses, and told me to lock them up in his cabin and to return him the keys." and that then there were "none [in the crow's nest] when we left Southampton.".
We then have George Symons, yet another lookout (Titanic had six who covered shifts in pairs), testifying that after they left Southampton, he went and asked Lightoller for binoculars, who told him that "there are none", which Lightoller backs up here.
Blair was supposed to be the second officer, replaced by Lightoller (who got bumped down from first). However, we know that Lightoller had access to binoculars. Meaning that even if Blair took his keys with him, Lightoller either had his own key or managed to procure a replacement.
We also know that there were multiple pairs on board, "A pair for each Senior Officer and the Commander, and one pair for the Bridge, commonly termed pilot glasses". Meaning if the lookouts seriously needed some, they could have been loaned some, especially since there'd only be one senior officer "on watch" at any given time.
This also makes it clear that there were no dedicated binoculars for the lookouts, a fact that is backed up by both the Marine Superintendent of the White Star line here when describing the contents of the box in the crow's nests. We also have multiple captains testifying on whether they consider binoculars essential, which might explain why they weren't usually supplied:
No, I do not. - Captain Richard Jones I never heard of it until I read it in the paper the other day. We have never had them - I never have. - Captain Frederick Passow My Lord, I do not believe in any look-out man having glasses at all. I only believe in the Officer using them, and then only when something has been reported in a certain quarter or certain place on the bow. - Sir Ernest Shackelton, Artic Explorer
Now, why is that the case? Binoculars were considered to be useful in identifying an object once they were spotted, and as Lightoller puts it: "[The lookout] might be able to identify it, but we do not wish him to identify it. All we want him to do is to strike the bells.”
It seems like binoculars were sometimes issued on White Star Line ships (Hogg testified that he had used them on the White Star Line’s Adriatic, but no other ship), but that it "[was] a matter of opinion for the officer on watch."
We also have multiple lookouts testifying that binoculars would, by their best judgment, not have helped Fleet and Lee spot it earlier since binoculars were not used for that:
Not much of a help to pick anything up; but to make it out afterwards, they were. - Thomas Jones "Do you mean you believe in your own eyesight better than you do in the glasses? Yes - George Hogg Yes. You use your own eyes as regards the picking up anything, but you want the glasses then to make certain of that object. - George Symons
"A fire weakend Titanic's hulls, which caused it to fail"
This old chestnut. I say old, but it's a "theory" originating in the 1990s. The idea is that there was a raging coal fire that heavily damaged the Titanic, proven by black smudges on a handful of pictures.
Now, it is true that there was a coal fire on the Titanic. This was fairly common in ocean liners at the time, due to the ridiculous amount of coal on board occasionally spontaneously combusting (fun) and there were procedures in place to deal with it.
The coal was stored in bunkers within the boiler rooms, see here, specifically to separate them out a bit. The boiler rooms (and other parts of the ships) were separated into watertight compartments divided by watertight bulkheads and doors.
The bulkheads were made of fairly thick steel and able to hold hundreds of tons of water. The coal bunkers themselves were made out of thinner steel, since they only needed to hold the coal itself, not water.
The fire on the Titanic happened in bunker Y in boiler room 6, presumably right when she left port. We know this because men were shoveling out coal both out of bunker Y and bunker W, the adjoining bunker on the other side of the watertight bulkhead in boiler room 5.
Ironically enough, that specific bunker was the last one that just got nicked by the iceberg, dooming the ship (if it had stayed intact Titanic probably would have floated along). The bunkers, as I said, were not made watertight. So when bunker W was flooded, the steel eventually failed and flooded boiler room 6 completely.
We can glean this both from recreations of the damage and the testimony of chief fireman Frederick Barrett, who was actually in boiler room 6 when it started flooding.
The "fire theory" states that the fire warped the bulkheads, which caused them to fail. To warp the bulkheads seriously, the fire would have had to burn at over 1000 degrees Fahrenheit/537 degrees celsius, probably hotter, which would then cause the rivets used to fasten the steel together to fail.
Directly above the fire was the First Class Swimming Pool, which would have heated up considerably if it sat above a raging inferno. One might find it hard to believe that a boiling pool would have been described as "heated to a refreshing temperature" and that "in no swimming bath had [he] ever enjoyed such a pleasure before" by Archibald Gracie.
Now we do know that there was a small "ding" in the bulkhead, according to Barrett, but that was small enough to just be painted over and investigated by the chief engineer, who deemed it to be no issue. And as previously stated, we can be pretty certain that the coal bunker burst, not the watertight bulkhead.
There's also the very simple fact that the smudge in the photograph is actually located above a bunch of third class cabins and a good fifty feet away from the coal bunkers & boilers, but oh well.

Not What He's Made For
Tumblr media
Spoilers for Season 6, Episode 11
Pairing: Evan "Buck" Buckley x Reader
Warnings: Angst, mentions of pregnancy and lost pregnancy
A/N: First fic in a while, it had to be for my baby Buck. This was inspired by Billie
Main Master-List
________
Standing at the window watching as everyone gathers in his room. Buck swallows hard, seeing himself laying in the hospital bed hooked up to the ventilator, his jaw clenches with anger, an anger that no matter how hard he tries, he can't wake himself up.
Its as if the universe is playing some sick joke on him. He already talked to Daniel and the alternate version of Bobby, what more does the universe want him to learn?
Banging against the glass window “I’M HERE!” He yells over and over as the crew of the 118 slowly file out of the room. Leaving just three.
Maddie, Bobby, and Y/N,
He watches as they sit and make small talk, sometimes discussing things that the doctors and nurses have told them about Buck’s current status. After about an hour a nurse stops in to have Maddie look over some paperwork as his closest next of kin, being that their parents are still hours away from arriving at the hospital. Leaving just Bobby and Y/N.
If there ever where someone who hid their troubles well, it was Y/N.
Always seeming fine and calm in tense or hard situations as her fears screamed inside of her.
When Y/N joined the LAFD most of her previous houses would say thats what made Y/N such a good firefighter, but if you asked Y/N she would always say it was her fear that runs her life.
And when Y/N joined the 118, Bobby was the only captain who could read through her facade.
After a call where Y/N had to crawl through a collapsed building a year after she joined the 118, Bobby found her having an anxiety attack in her hospital room after the 118 had visited her after she was found in the rubble. Other time Bobby had learned to tell when Y/N was too in her head about anything.
And when Buck and Y/N had started to turn their situationship into an actual relationship Bobby helped Y/N learn how to navigate her fears when it came to seeing a fellow first responder, and he taught Buck how to help Y/N navigate her anxieties.
And slowly over time, Buck and Y/N became each other’s persons. They had been though so much together, from being almost drowned by a tusnami, being shot at, crawling out of a sinkhole, to fighting wild fires down in Texas, and now this.
A lightning strike. Something so beautiful yet as much as Y/N would normally have admired their beauty, right now she loathed the beauty of plasma.
The one shift she took off and now Buck’s life hangs in the balance.
Placing a hand on Y/N’s shoulder, Y/N turns her head away from Bobby to quickly wipe away her tears. “Comon Y/N… what’s going though your head?” Bobby prys gently.
Letting out a sigh Y/N shakes her head, finally turning to face Bobby. “Did Buck tell you we had a fight-” she correcters herself “or rather that we’ve been fighting…”
Bobby shrugs slightly “He mention you two were bickering but he didn’t say over what” he takes a seat next to Y/N.
“...The fights… the bickering, whatever you wanna call it… its part of the reason why I asked for this shift off…”
Bobby nodded his head as he listened “I get it, come back with a clear approach to everything after giving each other some space… what have you been fighting about if you don’t mind me asking”
“...Buck….. Buck thinks I don’t wanna be with him anyone…. That I’m getting tired of him, and I kept trying to tell him… show him that it isn’t the case” Y/N glances over to Buck.
“Okay… then what’s the other reason you asked for this shift off?” Bobby raised his brow.
Blowing out a breath, Y/N shakes her head.
“If you let it sit, it’s gonna fester into something more. We both know that” Bobby sits back in the chair and crosses his arms, waiting for Y/N to talk.
She knows he’s right, if she avoids talking its just gonna sit in the back of her mind and eventually come back to bite her in the ass later.
“...If I tell you this… no one else can know, you have to swear to me Bobby. No one… not Athena or Maddie or Eddie or Buck, no one.” She turns to Bobby.
“Y/N, if its serius enough you know Buck-”
“Bobby.” Y/N pleads “He can’t know”
Bobby lets out a sigh, stuck between a rock and a hard place, he eventually nods his head “It stays between us, I promise”
Slowly nodding her head, Y/N takes a deep breath and looks back at Buck one last time before she turns back to Bobby.
“... Buck and I have been fighting because he thinks I’m pulling away from him… this has been going on for the past week and a half” Y/N glances down to the floor as she continues “and I mean maybe I was a little bit like three days ago but it’s not for the reason’s Buck thinks”
Starting to pick at the loose threads of her hoodie, Y/N shakes her head and blows out a breath before glancing to the doorway of Buck’s hospital room, making sure no one other than Bobby is around to hear her before she speaks.
“... a little over two weeks ago… I found out I was pregnant” Y/N sees the shock on Bobby’s face and cuts him off before he has the chance to speak “I was gonna tell you, I swear… but anytime we were on shift it was slow, we didnt end up doing anything super dangerous… and I wanted to tell Buck before I told anyone else”
Bobby’s gaze softens as he sees Y/N close her eyes and lean back in the chair as she takes a breath before continues. “If…. If I was pulling away, it’s because I was trying to figure out how to tell Buck” He sees how Y/N keeps her eyes to the floor as she talks, a tear starts to roll down her cheek before she brings her hand up to wipe it away. “Becuase its Buck. We all know he’d make a great dad, and a great dad deserves to be told in a great way… because Buck is worth taking extra steps to plan for so I ordered this little onesie and all these balloons and a cake to surprise him… and I know he would have loved it” Bobby can hear the passion in her voice before Y/N goes quiet for a moment to compose herself before she clears her thought.
“But then… four days ago I went to the ER because I was having some cramps and light spotting… I asked my doctor about and she said it was normal” Y/N shakes her head “But I could tell… something wasn’t-” Y/N stops herself, taking a moment before she swallows hard. “And… that’s when I learned that I lost the pregnancy…” She shrugs as she tries to maintain was little composer she has left.
“They don’t know what happened… in the ER they told me that things like this just happen sometimes…” Y/N’s voice tightnes she brings her hand up to cover her face for a moment as she tries to take a few deep breaths.
“So… for the last few days… yeah I was pulling away because I had all this stuff planned and I had to figure out what to do with it now because-” her voice breaks “It was all for nothing” her shoulders shake as Bobby wraps his arms around Y/N, letting her cry on his shoulder as he glances between her and Buck with pity and sadness in his eyes.
“Y/N” He starts once she’s a bit more calmed down “This isn’t something you can hide from Buck”
Y/N just continues to shake her head “I can’t Bobby, I’ve tried-”
“Y/N”
“No I mean it” Y/N cuts him off her voice wavers a little bit “I have tried to tell him at every opportunity but i can’t… everytime i try i choke everytime.”
Pulling away from Bobby, Y/N sniffles and wipes her eyes before she glances to Buck “...I think it’d just make it worse, make it hurt more if I told him…” Y/N mumbles “he’s not made for sadness Bobby… Buck thrives on the happiness and joy… love and happiness and passion run his life… something like this?” she just stares at Buck laying in the hospital bed and the tears start to roll down her cheeks once more “it’s not was he’s made for…”
Staring at Y/N and Bobby, Buck bangs his fist against the glass one last time before he stops banging, his hand growing sore as he rests his head against the glass, his tears matching Y/N’s as all he can do it watch…
Hoping that this isn’t his forever.

Buck & Eddie: Buck is looking for answers!
Tumblr media
Before 6x15 aired, I wrote a speculation post about Buck's "Therapy Uniform vs. his date clothes" (linked here) but everyone knows how the season ended with the showrunner pulling that BS by having Eddie revert back to being a giggly high school student who acted like an 18-year-old that didn't know how to ask a woman out on a date. And Buck literally made the same mistake by sleeping with a woman he just met who only wanted one thing from him but I digress. It still pisses me off, so I won't revisit it.
Also, I did a post after 6x13 aired (linked here) about Buck finding the answers (Eddie and Chris) because when he said he was the guy with the answers, he looked at Eddie.
Tumblr media
Anyway, after TM (showrunner, GLAD HE'S BACK so KR can kick rocks and go write an episode) released more cryptic Buck, Eddie and Chris pictures at dark o'clock Saturday night or Sunday morning (depending on your time zone), I revisited my theory about Buck's therapy uniform but now I've revised it. He does wear one but the reason he does is a lot narrower in scope. Even though I still believe he wears specific colors or a "uniform" per say for certain things, I realized after doing some analysis that whenever he wears a Gold/Bronze/Burnt Orange/Dark Orange or a Brown shirt with navy-blue or dark colored pants, he's LOOKING FOR ANSWERS!
That's the difference between my original post and this one and I have photos from each episode to prove my updated theory. Before I delve into this, I need to mention there are two pictures from season 6 that contain the colors but BE WARNED, the pictures included deal specifically with the COUCH METAPHOR 🙄🙃. I know, I know... the season ended with Buck asking ND to help him find a couch but full disclosure, after I started working through my frustration with the way the season ended by writing a huge fanfic, I took a closer look at their whatever the hell they were doing (it wasn't a relationship) and I don't think it was meant to be interpreted that way. I won't go into it here in my CANON posts but if you want to know my thoughts on it, I've included them in my love for FANON writing in my multi-chapter fanfic titled "I'm still in love with you but... I needed to learn how to love myself too!".
Now, let's get into this topic and review Buck's looking for answers uniform.
In 4x2, Buck was looking for ANSWERS from Dr. Copeland and he said, "I think you were right when you said I hide my true feelings from others".
Tumblr media
In 4x3 Buck told Maddie and Chimney he was seeing a therapist to help him find the ANSWERS and he started to find them but then everything went to $hit when the Buckley parents showed up.
Tumblr media
In 4x4, Buck showed up at Maddie's and Chimney's apartment looking for ANSWERS about his parents and that's when he found out about Daniel.
Tumblr media
In 4x8, Buck was lost and trying to find ANSWERS because guess who started dating again? EDDIE! And he was getting ready to introduce AF to Chris but Chris got upset and ran away and took an Uber to Buck's loft.
Tumblr media
In 4x11, Buck and TK were FRIENEMIES (not friends even though he believed they were) so he contacted her and asked her for help because he wanted to find the ANSWERS regarding who hit Sue Blevins and ran.
Tumblr media
In 4x14, Buck wore his "looking for ANSWERS" uniform twice and BOTH TIMES his quest involved Eddie! The first time was when he was packing more clothes to go to Eddie's house so he could keep taking care of Chris. That's when he got the call from AF after TK kissed him and ran so I've included two pictures so his shirt can be seen better while he's sitting at Eddie's beside. He was looking for answers about Eddie being shot in front of him and his heart being ripped out of his chest when it happened.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second time he was looking for ANSWERS, he was in the hospital talking to Eddie during THE WILL REVEAL! 🤪😜
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 5x3, Buck was once again looking for ANSWERS about his relationship but reminder, he went home to an empty loft after he told Eddie during the blackout to break up with AF🤪.
Tumblr media
In 5x4, he was looking for ANSWERS about Maddie and why she left him again even though she promised him she wouldn't in 3x16. Did she tell him she was leaving, YES! But reminder, she didn't tell him where she was going and all he told Chimney was "It's what she does, leave".
Tumblr media
In 6x1, at the end of the episode, Buck was looking for ANSWERS again but this time it was about his couch or the lack thereof. At the beginning of the episode, he cooked dinner for him and his Diaz boys and they made fun of him for not having one even though THEY WERE SITTING RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF HIM. He missed the fact that they were waiting for him and had been since he broke up with TK and he still didn't get it. The picture shows Buck carrying his armchair (which is the same color of the shirt he wears when he's looking for answers) and he moved it to where his couch once sat.
Tumblr media
In 6x4, Buck was looking for ANSWERS again when he was trying to decide if he should be Connor's sperm donor.
Tumblr media
In 6x12, Buck was lying on the couch looking for ANSWERS about his death but reminder, the color of the couch is close to the color of his armchair but it's hard to see. He's wearing a navy-blue t-shirt while lying on that uncomfortable orange couch his mother bought even though he told her HE'D FIND ONE ON HIS OWN.
Tumblr media
In 6x15, Buck was looking for ANSWERS about the fact that he died but ND was fangirling over him so hard that he LIKED the attention she was giving him then he said that Bull$hit to Eddie about her seeing him and Buck and Eddie went back to making the same mistakes. Eddie let people (**cough** Pepa and **cough** Bobby) tell him he should date instead of finding his own way. And Buck tried to make another woman like him when in fact all she wanted was his "Firehose".
Tumblr media
In 6x17, he was still looking for ANSWERS but this time it was answers regarding how to calculate the tip at the bar he took ND to and that's when LD showed up and insinuated, they hooked up when she knows they didn't. Reminder, Buck could only do math when he was with Eddie and Chris and the firefam but he couldn't calculate $hit when he was on a date with ND🤪🙃😁😉.
Tumblr media
Finally, in Season 7 (TM didn't specify which episode the scene below will appear in his cryptic post), Buck's wearing his LOOKING FOR ANSWERS colored shirt again. The color pants he's wearing while he sits on Chris' bed can't be seen but based on 6x13 when Chris wanted Buck to give him the answers to his math homework and since Chris is clearly doing homework in the picture, it's possible he's asking Buck to help him but he doesn't have the answers anymore because his special skills wore off after 6x13 which just so happened to be the episode the Buckley-Diaz family was together 90% of the time.
Tumblr media
What, if anything, does all this mean? I'm not speculating but will Buck finally find the answers in Season 7 or will it be more of the same, him looking for answers while Eddie tries to make another relationship work with someone he doesn't want to be with or will Buck and Eddie finally TALK about all their traumas and confess how much they love each other? Only TM, the producers and the actors know the answers to that question.

comalandia ∘˚˳° 911 fox + not so obvious nods to buck's memories
only the not really obvious ones, and i'm sure theres probably some i missed but oh well. image descriptions have explanations too. see the end for honourable mentions
[Image Description:
10 gifs of Evan "Buck" Buckley (and others) from 9-1-1, during his coma dream in season 6 episode 11, with older episodes too.
Gif 1: Buck - in his coma dream - sits on the couch between his brother and their father, beer in hand for all three of them. To the left of the couch is a shelf that holds a lamp, and in front of the lamp is a framed picture of the bar Buck tended in Peru. The picture contains the dark wood bar top encircled by a bunch of colourful barstools.
Gif 2: In Peru, season 4 episode 5, we see Connor talking to an off-screen Buck. Connor leans his elbows on the bar top. Next to him we can slightly see the same bright barstools as in the photo. In the background are tables and chairs that match the vibe. It's not a glaringly obvious nod, but it's definite.
Gif 3: In the lobby of the hospital within the coma dream Buck stands with Hen and Chimney as they try to figure out why it feels like Buck is dying and how he can get back to his life outside. Behind Buck walks two people in traditional South Asian attire; one in a dark blue and silver detailed sari, and the other wearing a head covering, but with an indiscernible outfit because Buck's body stands in the way of view.
Gif 4: In season 1 episode 5, a bride-to-be stands in front of a tall mirror, wearing a bright red sari with gold details, as her friend/bridesmaid helps her prepare for the wedding. We know the last gif is a nod to this specific moment (and not just people in the background) for two reasons; one, because it's an important part of Bobby's story in season 1, and two, because we have never seen Indian people in traditional clothing before or since.
Gif 5: The camera focus is mainly on Bobby, following him as his quickly rushes past Buck in the coma dream, so the background is a blink and miss it situation. A doctor tends to a patient with a high heel shoe embed in their left cheek.
Gif 6: Season 2 episode 6, has Chimney talking to one of the parents of the child beauty queens, who has a high heel shoe stabbed into the left cheek.
Gif 7: In the background of a few shots within Buck's coma journey throughout the hospital, you can see two people in khaki/beige ensembles. They stand as if they're guarding whatever is on the other side of the glass doors behind them. At first inspection, they could easily be passed off as nurses. But looking closer, it seems like no other nurses have worn this colour of scrubs before in the show. Mostly it's blue, sometimes maroon or even pink. But never khaki. This combined with the way they hold themselves, makes me think of the two prisoners that pretend to be guards.
Gif 8: In season 5 episode 6, two prisoners have taken the uniforms of guards in order to blend in and escape. They rummage through the personal belongings of said guards, seeing what they can take. The colour is the exact same as the two from the hospital in Buck's coma dream. And again, the way they stand brings me to think of these two.
Gif 9: Buck and Bobby walk through the hospital, past some open curtains where beds are. They pass a few pregnant people, all in varying degrees of athleisure wear. It appears that they may all be in labour.
Gif 10: Buck and Bobby respond to a call where pregnant parents begin to go into labour one after the other. All wearing clothing comfortable enough to do yoga in.
honourable mentions:
Tumblr media
When Buck first awakens within his coma, he looks up at Daniel as Daniel talks, giving the rundown of what happened. In the top left corner, the television is on, a news segment playing. The headline reads "VA HOSPITAL WAIT TIMES." The second line is hard to read, but this is going on the same time that Buck has his first memory, which just so happens to be of Eddie. Eddie, who is an Army Vet. Whom in comalandia fights to keep his son, but doesn't have the right support systems. It feels like this is somehow a little hint to that storyline.
Tumblr media
When Buck arrives home in his voma dream to his parents waiting for him, he wears a white shirt with wide spaced grey pinstripe. Much like the one he was wearing when Eddie got shot. It's not the same shirt I don't think, but hugely similar. Also there's a photo on his computer desk, but the image is too pixelated and far away for me to figure out what it is, though it may be another nod to something.
Tumblr media
In the hospital waiting room of comalandia, another TV is turned on to the news, black smoke billowing on the footage on screen. I can't make out what the headline says. But it can definitely hint at many different things in the show, as Buck is a firefighter after all.
Tumblr media
Christopher shows up in Buck's coma dream, and he wears a three toned horizontally striped tee under a hoodie. The stripes alternate between an almost green shade of blue, a dark blue, and white. Not sure where from, but I swear Chris has worn this shirt before, or even something similar.

Guys guys guys
Another fic I HAVE to recommend, seriously I’ve read it twice already
I don’t know if the author has a tumblr! If they do and someone knows it, could y’all tag them?
Essentially, Tommy finds out about Daniel.
And the Buckley parents suck. There’s mention of childhood ab*se and all the warnings that come with Buck’s childhood.
Loved this so much

Throwback Thursday Eve to my Buddie AU where everyone is some type of were-creature.
(Trigger warning for the Buckleys being bad parents and mentions of Doug and his stupid self.)
Eddie and the Diaz family are wolves.
Hen, Karen, and Deny are bears. So is Bobby.
Athena and her family are lions.
Chimney and Albert are tigers.
Buck, Maddie, and the Buckleys are from a long line of raptors. Like, the birds of prey. Hawks, eagles, stuff like that.
Maybe you're thinking, hey, Megan, this seems pretty cool but what's this story about? What's the catch? What's the plot?
Let me tell you.
Buck is a very rare, very prized, very amazing raptor mutation. He's not a hawk or falcon like his family. He's an actual raptor. Like the dinosaur. It happens to 1 in a millions raptor families.
But here's the problem, it made him incompatible to help Daniel. Which is why his parents treat him the way they do. And which is also why they raise him to hide his shift. That he's not natural and he's bad. And people will be scared of him. And he can never show anyone what he really is. Because he's a monster. Although, they don't start saying stuff like that until they've married their daughter off to an actual monster.
Anyways, so the 118 family wants to know what Buck is, but he's never told them. Never showed them. And they won't push. They can tell something is wrong. So they let him just be Buck.
When Maddie shows up with her pretty brown feathers, then they know what Buck probably is, another falcon or a hawk. But still, he won't shift. Which Maddie doesn't understand for a while. Then she finally gets him to open up to her when she opens up to him about Doug. They help each other heal, but he still won't shift.
But then, maybe, the tsunami hits and he loses Christopher. And he knows if he just shifted then he could find him. But he doesn't want to run around as a monster, terrifying people who have already had a bad day. And... he feels really bad about it, but the thought of turning and Chris being scared of him.... A crushing wave of ocean water is much easier to survive than that.
So yeah... what makes him shift finally? Can you imagine the huge amount of support and love from his fire fam? Can you imagine how excited Christopher would be? Eddie would just be in awe.
Right? Wouldn't that be cool?

5 times Buck hated his name and 1 time he didn’t mind it so much.
tw: use of explicit language. nothing else major i don’t think? like slight mention of parental neglect from bucks parents and mentions of daniel as well as the fire truck incident but other than that i think it’s okay.
1
Margaret Buckley gave birth to a son on the 19th of August 1991, five years after she thought her family was complete.
For the first two weeks of his life, Buck didn’t have a name. Simply known as “the baby”, almost as though his parents were already trying to separate themselves from his existence.
It was a six year old Daniel who gave him his name, after Margaret and Philip didn’t care enough to decide.
He was christened Evan Daniel Buckley on the 4th of September that same year.
Two weeks later, his older brother was gone, and with him, his mothers perceived warmth and his fathers everlasting patience. With him, any hope Buck ever could’ve had of his parents love. His name, his face, his existence was a reminder of the son they loved but still lost and the son they never wanted but were stuck with.
Eight years later he lost his sister- and the only positive influence in his life- for the first time to university. Three years later he lost her again to marriage.
It was around then his parents stopped calling him his name. Or any name at all.
It was around then that he became a ghost in his home.
It was around then he stopped liking his name.
2
Stephanie was the best thing to happen to him in Peru. The bartending gig was sweet, yeah, but Stephanie? She was a firecracker full of late nights and early mornings and bottomless Margaritas. Her laugh made Buck think he understood love for the first time.
So when she revealed she’d found a job in Poland that she was going to take, he was fully prepared to start packing before she’d even finished her sentence.
It was when she sent him a small smile with pity shining in her dark eyes that he knew. They weren’t on the same page. Probably weren’t even in the same book.
“Evan.” She began, in a way that made him feel like he was eleven all over again, standing in the kitchen while his mum explains that her and Philip are really busy and can’t make his baseball match and why are you being so selfish? “This has been fun. You’re a great guy, but you’re not someone I’m wanting long-term.”
And wasn’t that the very crux of the matter? He was never someone anyone wanted “long-term”. He hadn’t spoken to his own parents since he left home two years ago without a second glance, hadn’t talked to Maddie since she moved to Boston with Doug (the unanswered postcards didn’t count).
Long-term was, apparently, fantasy for him.
“Take care, Evan.” Steph said, right as she closed the door behind him for the last time.
It was then that he decided he needed a new name. A new life.
His feet landed on the tarmac of LAX Airport at 3pm the next day as he disembarked the plane. He took a deep, steadying breath as a warm breath ruffled his hair and hoped that, if he was lucky, this would be his very last beginning.
3
It took him 6 months to decide to enrol in the LAFD training academy, and by that time he’d almost burnt through his savings (LA was fucking expensive), but as he clicked ‘submit’ on his online application, he felt a sense of accomplishment that he’d never truly allowed himself to feel.
There were two other Evan’s in his class at the Academy, and by the end of day one Firefighter Zimmerman (their trainer) was already tired of the confusion.
It was at the start of day two, on the 12th of February 2013, that he was christened for the second time at the age of twenty-two.
As though Firefighter Zimmerman literally lifted bricks off of his back, Buck’s shoulders slackened and his chest loosened as the tension left along with his name.
Buck.
Buck.
Yeah. Yeah, he could get used to that.
4
Abby was his first real love. She had sunshine in her smile and made Buck think he could find the secret to happiness in her eyes if he stared at them long enough. She wasn’t his usual type and maybe that was the secret? Buck couldn’t remember ever being this content. Buck, who’d never felt like he truly deserved the life he was living, was constantly waiting for the catch. For the other shoe to drop.
Which is why, of course, it did- so fast and so hard that it uprooted his entire life along with it.
“I bought a plane ticket to go to Dublin.” There was an excited smile on her face and an ease about her that Buck had never seen before. It reminded him of how much he still didn’t know about her.
Buck’s entire mind screeched to a halt, freezing as the meaning settled. “Dublin as in…Dublin, Ireland?”
“Yes, Dublin, Ireland. I’m gonna go…for a while, probably.”
The meaning behind her words settled, his muscles tensing as his mind screamed at him. No. Not her.
“But, Evan—” It was then he should’ve known, because Abby never called him that, she knew what it meant for him, knew that it wasn’t him, not really. That Evan hadn’t been him in a long time. “Evan, me going away? Doesn’t have to mean the end. I’ve…I’ve just got to do this. I need to know who I am…without serving other people.”
And Buck had understood. He had. He’d promised. He’d waited. He’d put up with five minute phone conversations separated by whole weeks of silence that Abby blamed on her shitty cell service, he’d put up with getting updates with the rest of the world through Instagram and Facebook.
And then, Buck eventually stopped understanding, lost hope. Broke his promise and stopped waiting.
His love for Abby could only stretch him so far before it was self-destructive. And he was over being self-destructive.
And he was so over his name.
5
Ali was the next girl to give him hope. It took him a while to ease the ache in his heart after Abby, but every time she laughed a crack healed, every time the sun shone through her dark hair it felt as though she’d placed a band-aid over every wound. Even after almost dying pinned under a fire engine, with only a small inkling of hope of ever doing the job he loved again, she still had the power to make him smile.
Ali made him feel the most him since Abby.
Then history repeated itself, as it tended to do, and it all came crashing down.
He wasn’t quite sure how the conversation started, how his smile turned into indignation and the crinkles around her dark eyes transformed to tears, but her voice was soft like a melody as she was pleading and his heart clenched as though her fist was squeezing it.
“It’s not like I didn’t know you were in a dangerous line of work. When I met you, y’know, ten stories up a collapsing high rise—”
“—Exactly!” He interrupted, his voice louder, angrier than he intended, not quite understanding what this meant for them. For him. He didn’t like the way she flinched at his tone.
“That was one day, one day of my life, Evan.” His name made his heart stutter to a stop, as though shocking it into a standstill. “It’s every day of yours. I’m just…starting to really understand what that means.”
It’s when he saw fear in her eyes where he used to see his future that he knew how this would end. She could’ve watched him die. She couldn’t watch him die again.
He watched her leave and felt every crack she’d healed break open again.
+1
After Eddie is shot— after Buck watches him get shot— it takes a while for his mind to understand that everything’s okay. Even when Eddie is up and talking, and smiling at him with that smile that makes his eyes sparkle and makes Buck’s heart skip a beat in a way he’d never taken the time to analyse, his mind takes a minute to catch up.
Buck still feels the blood on him, sometimes. Can feel the phantom splatter of it as it landed on his face, sometimes stares at the shirt he was wearing that he really should throw out but somehow can’t find it in himself because it’s stained with Eddie’s blood, and don’t you understand?
The day Eddie’s due to be discharged, the man asks Buck to sit.
A million things run through his head as he perches himself awkwardly next to Eddie on the stiff hospital bed, turning to face the man and desperately trying not to nervously chew his lower lip (he’s mostly successful).
“You might’ve noticed I almost died. Again.” It was the exhaustion in his voice that made Buck desperately want to reassure him, tell him he never would’ve died, that Buck wouldn’t’ve let him, but— he didn’t because he couldn’t lie to Eddie and because Buck almost did. He just stood there, when he was shot. Probably would’ve stood there a lot longer hadn’t it been for Captain Metha. Probably would’ve been shot himself because his body refused to process that Eddie had been shot. Right in front of him. “Yeah, I’ve had a lot of close calls,” Eddie continued, “This one wasn’t even my closest—”
“—Eddie.”
“Just let me finish.” Eddie pleaded. “After the last time—” The well. “When the well collapsed on top of me—”
“—Which you survived.” Buck interrupted again. Couldn’t help himself. Needed to reassure Eddie— reassure himself— that Eddie was still here, still breathing.
Eddie huffed, nodding before continuing, “After that, it, uh, got me thinking. What would happen to Christopher if I hadn’t? So…I went to my attorney and changed my will. Someday, if I, uh, didn’t make it, Christopher would be taken care of. By you.”
What?
“What?”
“It’s in my will that if I die you become Christopher’s legal guardian.” Eddie stated again, firmly, eyes never leaving Buck’s. Buck squirmed, his mind working overdrive.
“I mean, h-how-how does that even work, don’t you need my consent?”
“My attorney said you could refuse.” Eddie said placatingly.
“But you knew I wouldn’t.”
“But I knew you wouldn’t.” Eddie repeated, smiling smugly, nudging Buck’s knee gently, playfully, with his own.
“But-but he has grandparents. Other family?”
Eddie laughed sarcastically, as though the very idea was ludicrous. “After Shannon died they all tried to guilt me into giving Christopher to them. It’s…not what I wanted then and it’s not what I want now.”
“I-if it came to that, wouldn’t they fight for him?”
Eddie shrugged. “I don’t know, maybe. Probably.” He nodded placatingly, before pausing to look Buck in the eyes seriously. “But no one will ever fight for my son as hard as you. And that is what I want for him.”
“You said you did this last year. Why are you just telling me now?”
“Because, Evan.” Eddie sighed, and instead of the oldness he was expecting, Buck felt his heart fill with warmth at the sound of his name coming from Eddie’s lips in such a way. Almost…loving? “You came in here the other day and you said you thought it would’ve been better if it’d been you who’d been shot. You act like you’re expendable…” Eddie sighs, before raising his hand and placing it over Buck’s, intertwining their fingers. Buck’s heart did somersaults in his chest. “But you’re wrong.”

The difference 😭
So for context, I think we all know by now about Howard Da Silva and his temper issues behind the scenes, how he would scream at everybody nearly every day. He was supposed to DIRECT 1776, but then Hunt was brought in and Da Silva didn’t like that. Bill Daniels was pretty much the only one who could calm him down and was fine with him because they had worked together before 1776 and they were friends. But no one else was his friend until Betty Buckley got him to open up but that’s a whole different story.
So the photo on the left is David Ford and Bill Daniels, and they both seem happy and in a good mood judging by their smirking. And on the right is Howard Da Silva and David Ford and David does not look very thrilled to be next to him. He looks almost sad I guess and maybe a little anxious incase Howard decides to blow up or something.
I don’t think for these particular photos, anyone was in character because if you know the show you know that No one is smiling during the process of signing the declaration. So in the photo of the left, I think they’re joking around or something and in the photo on the right, David Ford is afraid to say anything incase Da Silva starts lunging at him or something. It’s really sad that whole situation. But thankfully Da Silva changed and he was a trooper for the most part during the filming of the movie.
I should also mention that during out of town in Washington DC, Da Silva’s big song “Increase and Multiply” was cut, and he was FURIOUS, so he quit the show temporarily and they brought in Rex Everhart, who was a huge help and would end up being with the show for years. Obviously we all know that he had to take over for Da Silva for the first months on broadway because of his heart attack. So thank goodness they got him during DC.
But it’s clear by these two photos that David Ford wasn’t happy with Da Silva at first. I don’t blame him.

Okay so hear me out.
We all know about the lawsuit. And we know the grocery store event right? Most of the fandom agrees that what Eddie said would likely stick with Buck a bit because it was never acknowledged. Eddie never said that he didn’t think that.
Now look at the kitchen scene.
“Did you ever think, you were throwing your punches at the wrong guy?”
“You’re making about you? Again?”
This stuck with me. For someone like Buck, those words, like the grocery store ones, would hurt. So do I think these words stuck, at least a bit? Absolutely.
If you also look to when Buck is telling 118 about Daniel, it’s clear what he thinks.
“Have you talked to them about it?”
“What am I gonna say? I’m sorry about your dead son but can we talk about me for a minute?”
“He wasn’t their only son. You matter too Buck.”
“Sure. Just- just not to them.”
He said sure like it was a joke. Like him mattering was a joke.
He didn’t want to talk to his parents because he didn’t think that his pain was worthy enough of mentioning because his parents were in pain too.
He doesn’t feel like his problems are worth “whining” about.
I’m not saying all of Bucks self worth issues came from the grocery store fight and I am definitely not saying that Buck wasn’t in the wrong. But hearing those words?
“You’re exhausting. Everything is about you. You don’t see us whining about it. We all suck it up, why can’t you.”
It confirmed his darkest thoughts.
Since he was a child, love came with conditions. It always seemed like people left him because of it. He wasn’t enough. He was to much. He was to little.
So imagine hearing that? It was beyond a simple “I’m mad at you.”
Eddie just vocalized everything Buck has thought about himself.
So I definitely thinks he holds onto that. Holds onto the
“You make everything about you.”
He’s afraid to let people be there for him because he never felt like anyone truly was there for him in his life.
And Eddie has gotten better, more vocal about his feelings. But the grocery store happened years ago and he might not even remember it.
So Buck will always be there for Eddie and Chris. But he’s afraid to let them be there for him because he thinks their love has conditions. That they care for him on a superficial level, but once it comes down to it? He would exhaust them with how he feels so he just, doesn’t.
The 118 obviously love Buck. But he also believes that love is superficial too. That he’s a friend but not family because they already have family. He’s seeing everyone have all he wanted but he also thinks it’s his own fault he can’t have it.
I just wanted to rant because Evan Buckley is a great character.

From: Family, Familia, ‘Ohana, Chapter 13, Buck POV
Fandom: 911, H50, SWAT
Pairings: Evan Buckley/Eddie Diaz, Steve McGarrett/Daniel Williams, platonic Deacon/Hondo
Fic summary:
When one family seems lost another comes back from the past. But does Buck want to return to the past or live in the present? And does his present lead to a future he wants? Only he can answer these questions but Steve at least will be there to support him.
Tags/warnings: first draft. Not sure if this scene is going to start/stay the same in final draft. NavySeal!Buck, set post lawsuit/tsunami arc. Slow burn (as of now my drafts are >150k). Kidnapping mentioned this part. Eddie and Buck are talking/making things work.
Tumblr media
“I thought you hated beaches anymore—after the tsunami.” Eddie’s voice is startlingly close, and Buck twists to look up at Eddie, who is kicking off his borrowed sandals to take a seat on the sand next to him. The smile on Eddie’s face is relaxed, with no signs of the stress of the last few days except for the bruise over his left cheek.
Buck can’t help but snap a bit at the joking tone, feeling a bit too raw and open after being reminded it was his fault Eddie had been taken. “It’s not the beach that bothers me.”
“Well,” Eddie drawls as he sends up a small sandstorm by plopping into the sand close enough for Buck to feel his body heat and knocking into Buck’s shoulder, “then why are you out here glaring at the water like it has personally offended you?”
“It’s not…” Buck gapes at Eddie. “How can you be so…”
“So what?”
The little smile on Eddie’s face grates on Buck’s last nerve. “So I should be okay with you getting taken because of me?!?”
“It wasn’t your fault.”
“Yes, it was!” Buck snaps. “It was all my fault!”
“No—it was Wo Fat’s fault,” Eddie repeats calmly. “You didn’t kidnap me.”
“Well, he kidnapped you because he wanted me to leave Steve,” Buck irritably points out.
“Again, it was his fault. He’s the one who ordered them to jump me and bring me here to Hawaii. Not you.”
“But,” Buck’s voice breaks, and he barely bites back the sob that wants to escape his chest. He feels like he can’t breathe and it was his fault Eddie was taken, that Christopher was parentless for how many days, and now Eddie is here and he’s… he’s….
“Buck, it wasn’t your fault. People do terrible things all the time. Not everything is your fault, even if it was partially about you.”
“It was because of me,” Buck insists stubbornly.
“And did you do what Wo Fat wanted?” Eddie asks instead, leaning in slightly so their shoulders are brushing together again, separated only by the thin cotton of their t-shirts.
“No!”
Eddie’s perfectly shaped eyebrow does that questioning lift thing, and those whiskey-brown eyes are silently laughing at Buck, his lips still stubbornly quirked into a smile, driving Buck insane. It’s the look that Eddie gives him when he’s being too stubborn and won’t see reason, but Buck is trying to point out to Eddie that it really is his fault this time.
“It’s not…” Buck struggles to find the right words to express his point. Eddie had been taken because of him. He’d gotten hurt because of Buck. Christopher had been scared and alone because of Buck. “You got hurt because of me. Christopher is alone in LA without you because of me.”
“Again, it’s Wo Fat’s fault. You leaving Steve and 5-0 might have been his goal—which I’m glad you didn’t do—but it is his fault, not yours, Buck. Get that through your thick skull. It. Was. Not. Your. Fault.”
Buck hates it when Eddie is like this. He knows he can’t refute Eddie’s statement, but he still feels like an elephant is sitting on his chest, and Buck can’t take a deep breath. “It feels like it is.”
“I know,” Eddie lifts his arm and slides it around Buck’s shoulders, pulling him in close, thumb rubbing against the skin right above Buck’s collar bone.
Buck’s body betrays him, and he all but melts into the half-hug. He wants to bury his face in Eddie’s neck and shut out the world for a few minutes, hours—fucking days if he could. Buck is losing that headspace that he always depended upon when he was working as an active duty Seal, and without it, he feels like a quivering mess, so he glares out at the water and the sun beginning to head for the horizon.
He doesn’t want to disappoint Eddie by breaking down on him. Eddie was the one who just went through a traumatizing experience—not Buck.
“Buck, look at me.”
He can’t. If he looks at Eddie and Eddie is being Eddie and nice and—
“Buck.”
The tone of Eddie’s voice is all command and years of conditioning, first by the Navy and then by being Eddie’s partner at work, has Buck shifting to meet Eddie’s eyes, which shine with a warmth that chases away the chill of the wind coming from across the water.
“It wasn’t your fault. You taking time to get yourself straightened out while I was being an idiot? Not your fault. I want you to take care of yourself. I need you to put yourself first sometimes,” Eddie calmly states, and each word rings in Buck’s ears.
“You need me to?”
“I do.”
“Okay,” Buck weakly agrees. He’s helplessly held in place by Eddie’s gaze and the light touch where neck and shoulder meet.
“I need you to take care of yourself just as much as I need to take care of myself, but I also want to be there to help you when you need it.”
“Me too. I want to be there for you, Eddie.”
The corner of Eddie’s mouth quirks up. “We’re partners, Buck. I have your back, and you have mine.”
“Yeah…” Buck wants to be more than just Eddie’s work partner. They’d started talking about this before Eddie’d been taken, but maybe things have changed? Maybe Eddie’s reconsidered? Those discussions had been before… before Eddie had been taken.
Eddie reads him like a book, noticing the creeping doubt that whispers poisonous thoughts in Buck’s ear. “Stop it. Whatever you’re blaming yourself for—stop it.”
“I can’t help it.”
“Then let me help,” Eddie insists, tugging Buck closer, and the hot touch across Buck’s shoulder slips down to warp around his waist, trapping him as Eddie’s torso twists so he’s sideways, and Buck is pulled into his chest with a thump and trapped between Eddie’s arms. Buck is warm, and he never wants to move.
“Eddie… what are we doing?” Buck asks, needing to know. What does Eddie want from him? He’s everything to Buck.
“I…”
Buck has caught Eddie off guard with his question, and the other man licks his lips before replying.
“I want to find a way for us to move forward,” Eddie cautiously says.
“Forward?”
Eddie nods, a hand carding through Buck’s hair and then rubbing the back of his neck. Biting his lip and struggling visibly to find the words, vulnerability emanates from Eddie in waves that crash up on Buck, making him want to burrow further into Eddie’s hold and hide from what he’s sure is going to be something terrible that Eddie has to say.
“I... I feel like there’s this part of you that I never knew about, and then I found out about the Seals, your life before me, and the 118 with McGarrett; I didn’t have a clue.”
“I would have told you if I knew you wanted to know.”
“I know you would have. I just…” Eddie pauses, squeezing Buck’s neck to emphasize his point. “It makes me want to know what else I don’t know about you. I want to know everything about you.”
“Everything?”
“Yeah, and I want you to know everything about me which scares the ever-living fuck out of me.”
“It’s scary knowing someone,” Buck echoes, wanting Eddie to keep talking.

Fuck it Friday
tagged by @thewolvesof1998 @panbuckley @wildlife4life @hippolotamus @monsterrae1 @wikiangela everyone's in a horny mood, and here's me writing hunter!buck background story lmao
Buck has been a hunter his entire life.
Not that kind of hunter. The kind that hunts monsters. Demons, ghosts, vampires, werewolves, ect. Whatever goes bump in the night, Buck has been trained to kill since he’s been in diapers. He thinks - no knows - things would have been different if it weren’t for Daniel.
A couple times throughout his life he asks his parents about Daniel. Margaret and Phillip Buckley only mentioned him a handful of times throughout his life. The most was when he reached his older brother's age. Making Buck drink massive amounts of holy water and bathing in the stuff every night for a year until he surpassed his brother’s age. “Evan, we don’t want it to take you like it did Daniel,” that kind of stuff.
It’s Maddie who really answers Buck’s questions about Daniel. Who he was, what happened to him.
“He was the best big brother you could ever have, Evan.” A smile stretches her face. One of nostalgic fondness. “Then he just…changed. Turned evil. One day he came back from biking with friends and his eyes were so black, Evan. I’ve never seen anything like it. He terrified us. Mom and Dad didn’t know what to do.”
Daniel became possessed by a demon. It was months after he was born that Margaret and Phillip realized that to get rid of the demon they had to kill their own child. It devastated them. However the last thing Daniel - or the demon - told them was that they would come back for them as the Buckley parents killed him.
They’ve been searching for that demon ever since.

The Buckley parents were on their best behavior in 6x10 for a reason
In 6x10 “In a Flash”, Chimney was right when he told Buck, “Your parents were on their best behavior. I don’t know why but that’s something new for me to worry about”. He was right to be worried because they do in fact want something and it all started in 4x4 “9-1-1 What’s Your Grievance?”
In 4x4, after Maddie opened the door to greet her parents, she saw all the gifts they brought and she told them they shouldn’t have but Philip responded, “We’re grandparents now, spoiling comes with the job.”  But when Buck walked over to greet them, both of their demeanors changed and it was awkward for a reason. Margaret doesn’t like her son Evan since he couldn’t save Daniel, the son she wanted and planned for.  Her disgust for him was evident when she asked him about the way he still allows people to call him Buck. When he replied, “It’s just a nickname, Mom”, she responded like she was exasperated by him, not the nickname.
In 6x10, when they arrived at Chimney and Maddie’s new house, Buck said all they talked about was the weather when he picked them up and that’s all they talked about during their first dinner in 4x4 before it went sideways.
Tumblr media
Please notice the way Buck was standing in the shadow on the far right while the rest of the biologically related Buckley family members, i.e., Margaret, Philip, Jee-Yun and Maddie were all out front in the light.  It demonstrates how they still PREFER their daughter over their son.  But also notice the way Maddie was in front of Buck which could be due to the fact that she still takes care of him way better than their parents ever did or could.
Tumblr media
When Margaret saw the sonogram on Buck’s phone, her facial expression was panicked and it illustrated how she really felt about the possibility of Buck having a child of his own, even though her mouth said something completely different when she realized everyone was listening to their conversation. Her demeanor changed from panic to happiness when she assumed it was Maddie’s and Chimney’s sonogram and then she called Buck an uncle.
After all these years and the two therapy sessions, Buck mentioned they planned to have with him in 4x6 “Jinx”, they still don’t know him at all and they STILL DON’T CARE ABOUT him either.  They haven’t changed one bit, they’re still selfish and only out to get what they want.
The reason why they’re on their best behavior is because now that they’re GRANDPARENTS, Maddie has the power to cut them off from seeing the only grandchild they have and they don’t want to mess that up.
Reminder, Maddie raised Buck and he told her in 5x15 “FOMO” Jee-Yun wasn’t the first kid she raised, he was.  They’re trying to stay in Maddie’s good graces because she can stop them from seeing her and Chimney’s child.
If the scenes with Maddie and her parents felt off, the next paragraph could possibly explain the reason why.
It was strange but every time the Buckleys and the Hans discussed something major during their two meals, i.e., when the Buckleys first arrived and the pre-dinner discussion about the sperm donation, Maddie left the room so she could check on Jee-Yun which prevented her from being able to participate in the conversation. Furthermore, Maddie still hasn’t mentioned anything about Buck’s sperm donation.
Based solely on the way they were acting; it appears the Buckley parents gave Maddie and Chimney the money for the down payment on their house because they want access to Jee-Yun.  It was their way of buying them off so they could see their grandchild.
This is SPECULATION! Based on the way the Buckley parents were acting in 6x10, it’s possible Margaret and Philip are hiding something about Buck’s conception because Margaret wasn’t happy when she saw the sonogram and she still wasn’t happy about Buck having a biological child and the looks on their faces told the story.  When Buck said Connor asked him to be a sperm donor, Philip reluctantly said, “And you said yes?”, then Margaret asked, “And you’re the father?”  It appears they know something about Buck’s conception with regards to Daniel that he STILL doesn’t know about and Maddie doesn’t know either.  Also, Philip IS STILL TAKING HIS CLUES FROM MARGARET on how to react and respond to Evan/Buck.
To add more credence to this speculation claim, before her parents arrived, Maddie told Chimney, “It’s not like anybody’s going to drop any deep dark family secrets this time” and he responded, “Not that we know of.  In this family, there’s always an explosion”.  Their comments could be foreshadowing along with the comment Buck made while he and Chimney were cleaning the firetrucks. He said, “You know, I gotta say, I’m just glad it’s not the Buckley Family bringing the drama this time”.
This could be the reason why Buck didn’t mention Daniel’s Juvenile Leukemia to Connor and Kameron when he agreed to be their sperm donor.  It seems like this could possibly come full circle later in 6B.
Buck knows his parents are full of BS because he told Bobby and Eddie while they were in the firetruck, his parents thought him being a sperm donor was an idiotic decision.
Only two more days until 6x11 “In Another Life” airs and hopefully Buck will not redeem his parents because they DON’T DESERVE IT.

you're on your own kid (you always have been)
16k | Read on Ao3
Evan had rehearsed this a million times, Maddie had sat with him and gone through the whole thing with him once a day since they had learned the date for the trial, he was supposed to say: My name is Evan Buckley, I’m 13 years old and I want to be emancipated from my parents. They had me to save my brother, and all my life that’s all I’ve been, spare parts, they don’t even look at me twice unless they need something for Daniel. I’m not allowed to have friends because they need me to be at home in case they need anything for him. I’m not allowed to play outside because I’m not allowed to get hurt. Because I don’t belong to myself, I belong to them, and I want to belong to myself. He had just taken a deep breath to start his speech when his mother stood up from her seat and started to yell at him. “Stop this nonsense, Evan! You’re taking time away from Daniel! He needs you; he needs you to help him, that’s why we had you” That’s why we had you. The words would forever be burned in his mind. * Evan had been born to save his brother, until he got himself out of his household. 20 years later, Buck and Eddie are trying to adopt a baby who was born to save her brother, and the trial opens up a lot of old wounds for Buck. Also known as the savior child fic.

9-1-1 REACTION
We finally get the conclusion for our harrowing season 7 opener! This reaction is for the season 7, third episode “Capsized” which originally aired March 28, 2024. The episode was written by Juan Carlos Coto and Lyndsey Beaulieu and directed by executive producer and Glee and American Horror Story director Bradley Buecker. Spoilers ahead!
Tumblr media
“It’s the pungent aroma of orange people having sex.” – Kianna Harris
We begin the episode by going back to the very beginning. We are introduced to the Harris family in a scene very much reminiscent of the 1990 comedy film Home Alone starring Macauley Culkin, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern and Catherine O’Hara. We see the youngest Harris sibling, Corey (played by Leo Abelo Perry) sitting on the curb playing his Nintendo Switch while his parents Lonnie and Eliza Harris (played by Eddie Blackwell Williams and Amy Argyle) argue over who is supposed to order the car for their drive to the airport. The rest of the Harris family is rounded out by older siblings Kianna Harris (played by Kiara Muhammad) and Keshawn Harris (Samuel Dunn III) and their grandmother Darlene Harris (played by Deborah Marcano). In true Home Alone fashion, they almost leave Corey behind.
Tumblr media
We switch over the cruise ship where Kianna and Keshawn are complaining about the smell of the ocean air. Meanwhile, Corey is still glued to his video game. We then see the Harris family walk by Norman and Lola Peterson (played by Daniel Roebuck and Romy Rosemont). Lola compliments Darlene on her hat. We also see quite a few moments of Corey nearly getting left behind including the moment when all passengers are told to evacuate the ship. When Eliza realizes Corey is not in the lifeboat with the rest of the family, she gets off in search of him. Poor Corey is blissfully unaware of the all the chaos erupting all around him until he feels the explosion several floors below. He sits up and climbs out of the top bunk. We see Corey looking out the window at the giant wave coming towards the ship.
Cue title card.
Tumblr media
“What are you all doing on the ceiling?!” – Norman Peterson
We see the aftermath of the ship capsizing. Everyone is accounted for except for First Mate Kenneth (played by Anthony Carvello) who we last saw in the crow’s nest trying to send a distress call right before the wave hit. Since nothing was ever mentioned about the poor guy in this episode, I’m gonna assume he’s sleeping with the fishes at the bottom of the ocean. OMG, they killed Kenny! Sorry, had to do it. Speaking of people not long for this world, our belligerent and greedy passenger Jarod (played by Christopher Livingston) is lying crumpled on what used to be the ceiling. The rest of our crew is huddled around the walls of the room while Norman Peterson is still strapped to the craps table which is currently on the ceiling.
Tumblr media
These first three episodes of the season are supposed to be an homage to the 1972 disaster film The Poseidon Adventure starring Gene Hackman and Shelley Winters, but this scene reminded me of the upside-down puzzle in the 2019 film Escape Room starring Taylor Russell, Logan Miller, and Tyler Labine. Bobby is concerned about the table Norman’s attached falling from what used to be the floor and goes to work using some red straps to fashion a rope which he uses to repel down on top of the bottom of the table. He ties the same red rope to each of the table’s legs and then uses a wrench to unscrew the bolts holding the table in place. The others down below slowly lower Bobby and Norman down. My heart was pounding so hard during this sequence. We usually don’t get to see Bobby in Tom Cruise Mission Impossible mode. He usually leaves the heroics up to Buck. Athena tells Bobby she wishes Buck could’ve seen him do what he just did. He tells her that he would’ve rather seen Buck do that.
“Bobby and Athena’s cruise ship might be missing. – Maddie Buckley, to Howard “Chimney” Han
Tumblr media
Back on dry land, Maddie talks with Chimney about recent events. She tells Chimney that Hen has been cleared by Chief Simpson to come back to the 118. Chimney wonders that if that’s the case, why hasn’t she come back to work. He asks Maddie how she knows all of this, and Maddie tells him about Hen’s visit to the call center. She tells him that Bobby and Athena’s cruise ship might be missing and that the Coast Guard has attempted tried to reach out but hasn’t heard anything. Chimney asks if Hen reported any of this information to the chief. Maddie says that she did, and that Chief Simpson told her to report back to work. The 118 gets a call which means Chimney and Maddie have to end their conversation. Buck asks who is missing: Bobby and Athena or Hen. Chimney says both. As the ladder truck leaves, Hen sneaks into the station before the doors close.
“I won’t be an idiot if you won’t be a selfish harlot. Too late!” – Norman Peterson, to Lola Peterson
Tumblr media
Back on the ship, now that Norman has been lowered from the ceiling, Bobby suggests they all head to the bottom of the ship, which is now the top of the ship, remembering there’s an open hole there after the explosion. Julian (played by Rick Cosnett) thinks this is a bad idea because even if they somehow manage to make it to the top, there will be no one to save them. Lola tells him to lay down and die. Ouch! Bobby says that while they don’t know what will be waiting for them at the hull, they do know that if they continue to stay where they are, the ship will sink. The funniest part of this scene is when Bobby asks Julian to assist with moving Norman. Norman doesn’t want the man who has been having an affair with his wife to lay a finger on him. Lola tells him to not be an idiot. Norman tells all of them that if he’s going to die, he’s going to do it with dignity. With the help of the ship’s doctor, he is able to get up on his feet. The group make it out of the casino right as a grand piano falls down on the glass center causing water to rush inside.
“Nobody wants to look for a ship that hasn’t asked for help.” – Hen Wilson
Tumblr media
Hen sneaks into the office and fills out a Los Angeles Fire Department Property Resource Requisition form. She gets a call from Maddie who tells her she’s trying to get people to take their situation seriously. Maddie asks where she is and tells her she knows she didn’t go back to the 118. Hen asks if she’s checking up on her. Maddie tells her whatever it is she’s doing she doesn’t have to do it alone. Hen tells her that she tried using official channels but that didn’t work. Now she is going another direction. Maddie asks her what that means and Hen ends the call by telling her the less she knows the better.
“I know a little about you. That little squeak you make.” – Julian Enes, to Lola Peterson
Tumblr media
The ship is taking on water and Athena questions the path they are taking. Security Officer Wes (played Denzel Johnson) suggests using a door behind one of the cafes to access the maintenance shaft to get to higher ground. When he attempts to open the door, there’s another explosion. Security Officer Wes takes the brunt of the damage and quickly succumbs to his injuries. Bobby, Athena, and the rest of their gang are shocked by his death but press on without him. It was super sad watching the security officer’s body floating in the water. Now, just in case you’re keeping tabs on our remaining survivors, we have Bobby, Athena, the Petersons, Captain Ochoa (played by Mercedes Colon), Dr. Gibson (played by Eddie Jemison), and Julian left. At this point, the body count is rising faster than the water.
“That could be why I haven’t been getting your Christmas cards.” – Tommy Kinard, to Hen Wilson
Tumblr media
Hen takes her requisition form over to the Los Angeles Fire Department Air Operations unit. She introduces herself as acting captain from the 118 and tells the pilot named Melton (played by Thomas Hobson) she has an emergency requisition for a chopper and pilot. Melton looks over her form and tells her he hasn’t heard anything about a missing cruise ship. Hen says the situation is fast-moving due to the hurricane. Melton continues to question Hen’s motives but thankfully an old friend comes to the rescue. Former Los Angeles firefighter Tommy Kinard (played by Lou Ferrigno Jr.) tells Melton he and Hen used to work together at the 118 back when she was just a probie. I was so happy to see Tommy. I’m a big Lou Ferrigno Jr fan and the last time we saw him was way back in season 2 in the episode “Bobby Begins Again”.
Tommy tells Hen he has a chopper fueled and ready to go. Hen is confused by all of this and asks him what going on. Tommy tells her he’s just helping out an old friend. She asks him who called him. Tommy opens the door to the chopper and Hen sees Chimney, Eddie, and Buck inside. Eddie hands her a jacket and tells her to get inside.
“C’mon, guys. Stop agreeing with each other like you’re fighting. It’s weird.” – Eddie Diaz, to Howard “Chimney” Han and Hen Wilson
Tumblr media
Tommy flies them right into path of the hurricane. Things are really intense inside the chopper. Eddie and Buck attempt to break the tension by getting Hen and Chimney to talk to each other. Chimney is miffed because he thinks Hen doesn’t believe they all have her back. He says that they all faked having food poisoning to get them out of their shift at the 118. Hen admits that Chimney didn’t do anything wrong and that he doesn’t have to prove anything to her. Chimney tells her she didn’t do anything wrong either. Buck asks the two of them if they’re good. Hen says they’ve always been good. Chimney asks her why she didn’t reach out to them for help. Hen tells him she knew that if she told him, he’d want to tag along, and she didn’t want him to risk anything over some wild hunch she had. Buck says he will back her hunches any day of the week. No questions asked. Eddie voices his agreement. Buck says that if there’s any chance Bobby and Athena are in trouble, he doesn’t mind getting fired. Tommy says he doesn’t think anyone should be worried about getting fired because they’re probably not going to survive this mission. Yikes!
“Bobby! Bring him back to his mother and bring yourself back to me.” – Athena Grant, to Bobby Nash
Tumblr media
Back on the ship, our crew has stumbles across Eliza Harris, mother of Corey Harris, trapped under fallen debris. While Athena attends to her, Norman and Lola have a conversation about the state of their marriage. Lola admits that she let Julian use her. When Norman asks her why, she tells him it’s because he stopped touching her. She then points out that they’ve been together since they were 17 years old and that she’s never been with another man. I actually laughed out loud when Norman responded with, “Neither have I”. He asks her if she’s fallen out of love with him. Lola says she thought she had but she was wrong. Norman says he thought they’d be together until they both died, and Lola says she still wants that. Norman says that she might still get it.
Meanwhile, Bobby is trying to pry open the door that currently has Eliza’s arm penned. He breaks open a nearby case and takes out an axe. I got really nervous watching this scene because the last time I saw an axe brought out on this show, someone lost their arm. Thankfully, Bobby uses the axes to break the handle on the door. He’s now able to slide open the door; however, he quickly realizes the door was acting as a tourniquet for Eliza’s arm. With the door moved, Eliza is bleeding profusely. Bobby sends Julian to grab some blankets out of one of the nearby cabins to use as a tourniquet. Dr. Gibson finally does the thing he purports to do and manages to stop the bleeding. Bobby tells Julian the two of them are going to have to carry Eliza but the mother of three refuses to go without her son. Captain Ochoa says that the son’s room is on deck twelve. Athena offers to go look for him, but Bobby tells her to stay put. He will be the one to go search for Corey but not before he and Athena share one of those passionate kisses you only see in the movies.
“Who cares!?” – Tommy Kinard and the 118
Tumblr media
Tommy flies Hen, Chimney, Buck, and Eddie to the vicinity of where the ship last showed up on radar. He tells them they have about twelve minutes to search before he has to turn them around and head back. A message from Chief Simpson comes in over the radio but Tommy pretends there’s static and shuts off the radio.
“You were right. That is one big hole.” – Norman Peterson
Tumblr media
Athena leads the others minus Bobby to the giant hole made by the explosion. Athena hears a helicopter and tells the others that whoever is searching for them is expecting to see a cruise ship, not the bottom of one. Julian climbs up to the top and attempts to fire the flare gun. He slips, falls, and dies. I hate that he died. Yes, it’s because of him that things are as dire as they are and he’s definitely to blame for the deaths of First Mate Kenneth, passenger Jarod, and Security Officer Wes. I do wish he would’ve stayed alive, so he could’ve been taken into custody. Bobby manages to locate Corey and this kid has the nerve to say, he doesn’t talk to strangers. Lola, meanwhile, goes underwater and grabs the flare gun that Julian dropped as his body plummeted into the water. Athena sends off a flare and Tommy and the others are finally able to see the capsized ship. Just as a Bobby and Corey are about to drown, Buck and Eddie open a hatch and rescue them.
“Let’s talk about it in 10 or 20.” – Norman Peterson, to Lola Peterson
Tumblr media
Much like the episode of 9-1-1: Lone Star where Judd and Grace’s truck crashes into a lake, a lot of details of the actual rescue are glossed over in favor of a scene where we see everyone safe and reunited with their loved ones. Chief Simpson delivers a press conference and makes it seem like the rescue mission was his idea. Hen is relieved none of them are getting fired for going rogue to save Bobby and Athena. Hen thanks Maddie for tattling and Maddie says she will always have her back. I really like this scene because as I’ve said in a previous reaction, we rarely get scenes between these two characters which is funny to me considering how close Hen and Chimney are. Bobby gets off the helicopter and sees Athena. The two of them rush over to each other and share a kiss straight out of a golden age Hollywood film. Lola goes to see Norman before he is rushed off to the hospital. She asks if he’ll ever be able to forgive her. He implies they’ll talk about it after she gets out of jail. Lola is then escorted away by an officer. Bobby tells Hen he is proud of her and calls her captain.
“Alone at last.” – Bobby Nash, to Athena Grant
Tumblr media
In the final scene of the episode, a weary Bobby and Athena return to their home with takeout food. They sit on the sofa and sit in silence. This silence is much different from the kind Athena was worried about. Bobby jokingly says he needs a vacation and Athena says she needs a toothbrush. They talk about how all of their luggage is sitting at the bottom of the ocean and share a laugh. I love how they’re both wearing very touristy T-shirts they probably got from a gift shop once they made it back to land. The two of them kiss and run off to the bedroom.
Wow! What a satisfying ending to an amazing season opener. 9-1-1 is back and better than ever and they have the ratings to prove it. Words cannot express how happy I am to have this show back on TV. The move to ABC was a brilliant idea. Not only did it save the show, but the viewership has also gone up considerably. According to the 9-1-1 page on Wikipedia, since the switch from FOX to ABC, ratings have gone up from an average of 4 million viewers to over 5 million viewers. If the show continues in this direction, there’s no doubt in my mind about getting another season.
I’m glad we got the happy ending I was wanting for this story. Yes, we lost some people along the way, but I’m especially glad Athena, Bobby, and Norman Peterson survived. I honestly feel bad for Norman and how things unfolded. He seems like a decent guy and yes, maybe he did neglect his wife, but the response to that should never have been to cheat on him and turn to a life of crime. I hope we get to see him again at some point and see that he’s moved on with his life, hopefully not with Lola. I cannot see a reality where Lola doesn’t go away for a long, long time. I wonder what her son thinks about all of this. I imagine it must’ve been really embarrassing for him to see his mother naked on a billboard pointing a gun at the LAPD and LAFD.
Tumblr media
I’m also happy we got a happy ending for Hen and Chimney. These two are #friendgoals and I’ve never seen them fight like this before. I’m glad Hen was able to admit there were things she could’ve done better regarding the drunk driving incident, and I like that Chimney acknowledged he could have done things better as well. I’m glad that in the end, Chimney, Buck, and Eddie proved they had Hen’s back no matter what. They all risked their lives and their livelihoods to save their captain and Athena. That’s real friendship right there. I’m also glad that Tommy helped them out because he’s a big part of Hen and Chimney’s origin story at the 118.
Lastly, things seem to be back on track for Athena and Bobby. I like that their relationship issues weren’t magically remedied. They still have a lot of work to do but at least each of them understands where the other is coming from. Athena realizes that she’s not alone in the relationship and Bobby knows now that he is deserving of his second chance at love and life. I hope the next time we see them in therapy they’re together. Bobby and Athena are endgame as far as I’m concerned so I wasn’t too afraid for their relationship; however, it’s good to see that all relationships need maintenance.
This was an incredible episode, and I cannot wait to see what happens next. According to Wikipedia, we’re only getting ten episodes this season which I don’t mind. After the strikes last summer, I think most of us are just happy to have any new television right now.  As far as disaster episodes go, this one has been moved to the top of my list. The tsunami episodes from season 3 and the earthquake episodes from season 2 have been shifted down to the second and third spots on my list, respectively. I look forward to more action-packed episodes on 9-1-1. Until next time …

"Hey is everything okay? Who're you tryin' to get a hold of?" [2x02]
Tumblr media
"How 'bout a flash mob?" [6×16]
From the very beginning, to (almost) the last episode of (what was almost) the last season.
This is how firefighters Diaz and Buckley are portrayed. This is how the writers want us to see BuckandEddie of LAFD 118. Always knee-to-knee, side by side, having each other's backs. That's how the show opens and closes regarding their camaraderie.
There was Shannon (may she RIP) and Ana and Taylor and a lawsuit and a mental breakdown and Daniel (may he RIP) and Maddie being kidnapped and a pandemic and a truck bomb and a tsunami and a lightning and a gunshot and a career change and panic attacks and other things I fail to mention and even things I mention are out of order I know
But that is how unshakeable they are. Once the alarm rings, they are Buck and Eddie. Romance or no romance, that is a strong, omnipresent, reliable bond.
To say nothing of how close they are when they are off duty.
To tide me until season 7 which is 2 days away~~

Summary: Tears were streaming down his face without his control, and Buck let them. He allowed himself this moment to break like a year ago when he first realized why this day every year in his family was such a way it was. Why did Buck always feel empty and sad, why did he hear how Maddie and mother and even father cried. Why his parents were especially absent on that day.
The answer is: that day is forever recorded as Daniel's birthday, but he had too little of them.
He cried and cried until the candles were about half the size, then Buck blew them out, but before doing that, he looked up and said.
“I’m sorry. I'm so sorry. You should have more time. We should have more time. I wish I could help you, big brother.”
Or, for three years Buck deals with grief of loosing Daniel alone at Daniel's birthday, and fourth time he is not alone anymore.
