A-T-3 214 Nona Hendryx
Sean Combs sampled Transformation by LaBelle member (and their main songwriter) Nona Hendryx a few times - see yesterday's post for more about about tracks sampled by Puff
LaBelle split up in 1976 and Nona Hendryx embarks on a solo career but she's also writing and contributing backing vocals. Hendryx sings on Talking Heads' 1980 album Remain In The Light and 1983's Speaking In Tougues as well as touring with the band (recorded for the live album The Name Of The Band Is Talking Heads). This led to the 1981 single Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart, a cover of the The Supremes original, produced by Talking Heads' Jerry Harrison and TH's session musician Busta Jones. Then there is Material, Hendryx's performs lead vocal on the 1981 singles Bustin' Out (written with Hendryx) and It's A Holiday, in 1982 she appears on Material's sophomore album One Down. And also in 1982 Hendryx features as guest lead vocalist on the Rusty Egan, Pete Barnacle (Visage), and his brother Steve Barnacle (Night Moves) project The Cage and their cover of the T-Connection classic Do What You Wanna Do
When it came to Hendryx's second album Nona it was Material who she chose to make it with, it was a great choice and of course Bill Laswell/Material had recently made that series of hip-hop/electro 12s for Celluloid. Nona Hendryx carries on working with Bill Laswell after the Nona album
Lets start with the biggy Nona Hendryx - Transformation the queer classic that she still performs live
youtube
Nona Hendryx - Design For Living features an amazing array of women: Laurie Anderson, Tina Weymouth, Patti LaBelle, Valerie Simpson, Nancy Wilson (of Heart), and Gina Shock (of the Go-Gos)
youtube
Nona Hendryx - Steady Action there's some incredible players on this album
youtube
Nona Hendryx - B-Boys Hendryx' nod to burgeoning bboy culture, there's an instrumental on the b-side it's not really a bboy track though which I've always thought was a shame
youtube
Nona Hendryx - Keep It Confidential was also a club hit, remixed by Nick Martinelli & David Todd

Harmonia - Musik Von Harmonia (1975)
Krautrock supergroup Harmonia, made up of members of Neu! and Kluster.  Brian Eno would be heavily influenced by them, and they effectively introduced him to ambient music. He recorded with them in 1977, and that influenced his work with David Bowie on the Berlin trilogy.

This once-popular sub-genre of hip-hop isn’t included in 50th anniversary celebrations. Why it isn’t (but should be)…
This sub-genre of hip-hop isn’t often included in 50th anniversary celebrations. Here’s why it isn’t (but should be)… #electrofunk #PlanetPatrol #BETAwards #BETAwards2023 #PlanetRock #SoulSonicForce #AfrikaBambaataa #Newcleus #JamOnIt
(June 27, 2023).  In watching Sunday’s BET Awards (June 25) and its nearly 4-hour celebration of hip-hop’s 50th anniversary, it became immediately apparent that the network known for its Black entertainment programming was not going to allow itself to be upstaged by the glitz and glamour of the Grammys, whose earlier 50th anniversary celebration in February surprised millions of viewers for its,…

A-T-2 384 Visage - Pleasure Boys (Bonus Beats)
As I mentioned John Luongo and Rusty Egan in the last post now is the right time for their remix of Visage's Pleasure Boys. This track is notable for it's influence on electro, hip-hop, and house music in New York and on the Miami electro-bass scene
Visage - Pleasure Boys (Bonus Beats) by John Luongo and Rusty Egan that came out as a promo in the UK in 1982. The cheaper option is the Polydor Dance Classics 12" which came out in the US in 1986, the other three tracks are none too shabby either
youtube
Danny Krivit is credited as associate producer on above Polydor Dance Classics 12" compilation. Now, he could be responsible for the bootleg re-edit that also came out around 1986, rock the house y'all. Essentially it's the bonus beats in the middle of this track
Visage - Pleasure Boys (bootleg re-edit)
youtube
Here's the original remix. The break is at 3.54 in this YouTube clip
