lemon i hope you know (if you didn't already from your notification boom solely from me) that your prev hero au designs did something to me. fundamentally altered my brain somehow. im literally stuffing them in my mouth how did you do that
HHEELLLOOOO THIS WAS A LOVELY NOTIFICATION BOMB TO WAKE UP TO, HOLDING ALL THESE TAGS NEAR AND DEAR TO MY HEART
as for how (i'm seizing this as an opportunity to share a bunch of process work):
there was a butt load of trial and error
Tumblr media
From what I can remember (this all started 3 years ago holy shit,,,) I worked on Kevin's design first. The only 2 ref images I've found are included in the screenshot, but I'm pretty sure I was looking at those in addition to all of the other Impa+Sheik designs from the games, OG Hyrule Warriors concept art for Impa+Sheik, and the Sheikah pages from BOTW's Creating A Champion.
Tumblr media
here's Link's stuff and YIPPEE I HAVE HIS REFERENCE IMAGES 🙌🙌
(BIG BIGG shoutout to @/historyofhyrule btw for archiving so much concept art and everything from all of the zelda games. None of this brainrot would've been possible without them.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
butt load of trial and error cont. especially for the colour of his scarf omg (I was looking at some of the hero's garb colour variants from OG Hyrule Warriors, and was conscious of the two other scarf wearing Links in Zelda Not Canon)
Tumblr media
I can't find Zelda's inspo/ref images either but I remember referencing Griffith and Casca from Berserk, Kushana from Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Ashei from TP, some of the OG Hyrule Warriors concept art for Princess Zelda, and of course some of the other canon Zelda designs (ALttP, TP, HW, OoT, BOTW).
I'd say Kushana was and still is the biggest inspo for Prev!Zelda, even personality wise I find myself looking back to her and how she was in the Nausicaa manga and movie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
final design thoughts: I really REALLY wanted the three of them to look cohesive with each other SO,
I always carried over screenshots of the other members of the trio onto their individual canvases to make sure that any changes I made to one design didn't stand out too much from the others,
I'm also pretty sure I worked on Link and Zelda's design simultaneously, or at least flipped back and forth between them a LOT when doing their armour (I wanted it to be evident that they were produced by the same smiths of the royal family yknowww),
and finally I made sure there were a couple of shared colours between their colour palettes
Thankee Thankee for reading this far and I hope y'all enjoyed my process stuff :))!!!

More to my Legend Headcanons:
When Link steps out of the portal in a new forest, he runs into another boy who seems to look 15. They get into a fight, he gets punched in the face and they fight until the other boy makes it clear that he isn't trying to kill him
Coincidently, this boy is also named Link
This is going to be a problem...
The two Link's wander around, trying to figure out what is going on when they stumble across a pair of a guy in a wolf pelt and a boy wearing a blue tunic with long hair, a short guy with four coloured quaters in his tunic (he looks suspiciously familiar) with a guy with a big white cape, and a group of three. A small boy wearing blue, a knight wearing a long scarf and a man in armour with curious marks on one side of his face and a scar over his blind eye.
They make a curious group, nine Links stumbling across eachother in a land they don't know presumably all heroes from different points in time, seriously in need of some nicknames.
Link finds himself named the Legend, Veteran
One time they come to his Hyrule. They return to his (uncle's) house to stock up on supplies and for him to swap out some weapons when a certain purple bunny pops out.
Link honestly thought that Ravio had left but he supposes he can let him stay and guard his things.
The chain wandered into Kakariko village when they notice how every person embraces their grumpy Vet and adore him. He is one of them and they are his people.
The knight are as horrible as ever. They attack people, including little children, for the smallest things, they stop young women in the streets and strip them off their things. Legend is usually the one who has to stop them, every single time. He has to teach little girls and boys how to fight and defend themselves and it breaks his heart.
The knights come for him especially. While the kingdom has accepted and love their hero, they he is more one of them than a prince, the knights still view it as their duty to dispose of him. People owning shops help him escape through a back window of their shops or something whenever he is backed into a corner and needs somewhere to hide.
Warriors and Time often give villagers a scare whenever they come by, but they are slowly getting used to those two being with their Link and his friends.
Legend may or may not hhave been shot in the leg in hyrule field and taken to the castle by some knights, and Ravio may or may not have had to show the rest of the chain the sewers enterance into the castle so that they can free him.
Legend had honestly gotten taken to prison quite the few times and has almost always found his way out when Zelda (or Fable now) wasn't able to get him out herself.
The fact that Legend keeps almost every one of his wanted posters kinda freaks the chain out a little.

Chapter 9: Legend
First || << Previous
*runs in, tripping and falling with notes spilling out of my hands* I'm here! It's here! I'm done, I did it!!!
Hi! It me again! :D
This chapter was rough. It was so hard to write for no reason. Actually there were many reasons, but it would be too long to write them all here, lol.
I anticipated that this chapter would be long. I planned for it. It was supposed to be long... not 11k long though, holy shit.
Anway, enjoy! :D
Nervous tension hung in the air as they were setting up the camp, desperate to do something with their hands and help around where they could, since Hyrule shooed them all away from unconscious Legend, who was laid down on the ground after they managed to coax some of the green potion in him before he passed out. Setting up some bedding to transfer him on became priority and they all jumped to it, as the traveller was finally able to properly examine his state.
Magical exhaustion. Nothing they haven’t seen or dealt with before. Goddesses know that Hyrule himself used to pass out at least once every week, before they finally convinced him to take it easy with after-battle healing, especially if he had casted any spells beforehand.
But Legend seemed to be unproportionally affected when compared to their past experiences with the traveller. He was pale and shivering, despite how burned up he felt to the touch. There was blood flowing from his nose that made their healer panic and made Twilight practically fly over the ground with the veteran curled to his chest, so they could get as far from the collapsing dungeon as possible and treat his condition fast .
Legend was always so vigilant with his own reserves. They never saw him drain himself like that.
Logically, they knew he would be fine with some rest. Hyrule was much more composed now. Concerned, yes, but nowhere near the panic from before. Still, their worry remained.
They managed to finish setting up the camp, transfer Legend to a more comfortable position and change out of their armour before Hyrule finally rose up from his spot and moved closer to the fire.
“He'll be okay, but he probably won’t wake up until morning and even then the fatigue will persist for a couple of days at least. He got really low. Dangerously low. But he should be fine for now.”
A feeling of relief swept through the clearing.
Warriors picked up the care after the veteran then, while Hyrule brewed some of his herbal mixes to help with Legend’s fever, Wild ready with his slate to store it hot and fresh for when it will be needed.
While the sense of worry never really left them, the rest of the afternoon passed with no further surprises.
It wasn’t until evening meal that someone brought attention to their resting companion again.
“As much as the circumstances of this are not ideal, the fact that Vet is not able to hear this conversation, gives us a unique opportunity.” Four glanced around to make sure everyone was paying attention. When satisfied, he put down his spoon and preemptively raised his hand. “Everyone who got a personal gift from Legend, tailored to their needs, abilities or experiences, please raise your hand.”
Looks of confusion and concern brightened into smiles as all eight of them ended up with their hands raised.
“I knew it! Fess up, old men, what did you get?” Shouted Wind pointing his finger in Time’s direction, getting only a cryptic smile in return.
While they were trying to coax the answer from Time, Sky lowered his hand to put it behind his head, looking uncertain. “Not sure if my gift counts to be honest. It's not really a thing …”
“What did he give you then?”
“Oh, you know…” a smug grin crept on his face as he nonchalantly pulled out his harp to strum a few notes, dragging the moment out. “A heart-to-heart in the middle of the night and a song he clearly has emotional attachment to.”
...
“Oh, come on!”
“Not fair!”
“You're right, it doesn’t count, disqualified!”

#☆ sonic headcanons but video games!!
(a little simple and silly but they were fun to brain storm)
⋆。˚ ︶︶✩︶︶‌ ⋆。˚
Sonic!
- personally i think sonic would really like rhythm games, his favourites are project diva x and mega mix, as well as muse dash
- for rhythm games he of course enjoys playing the faster paced songs and starts off with hard, completely skipping normal
- but for party games he really likes to play splatoon with all of his friends
- he definitely gets competitive and likes to push straight through to the other teams base to ink
- but for two player games his favourite is for sure cuphead and he saves that game for whenever him and tails hang out
- sonic always plays as cuphead and tails always plays as mugman
- now taking a bit of a leap here, i think sonic would also really have fun playing fromsoft games, like elden ring and bloodborne (more so elden ring)
- for these games he likes to play them with shadow but they never get anything done because sonic is always messing with him and tricking him
————
Amy!
- she LOVES animal crossing and put lots of time and effort into making her island cute and pretty with her main theme being something along the lines of coquette for sure
- amy of course tries to convince everyone to play animal crossing as well so they can all see each others islands and decorate together
- she also likes to play rhythm games but is less worried about her score unlike sonic, and she actually enjoys the slow songs
- but if amy had the whole day to herself she could easily spend every hour of it playing the sims which seems to confuse everyone but she’s just having a blast
- she also really loves the legend of zelda games and adores zelda
————
Shadow!
- okay now i know that amy and sonic already like rhythm games but i think shadow would also really enjoy them
- he definitely challenges sonic to the harder songs and secretly enjoys playing with him, even if he might be a little bitter since his score was only 1% away from beating him
- but circling back to elden ring and bloodborne, he’s actually pretty damn good at those games. in elden ring he prefers a bleed build and in bloodborne he usually just sticks with the saw cleaver
- aaaand despite his gruff attitude he actually likes animal crossing so him and amy like to visit each others islands
- i also think he might enjoy a good story game like omori, dredge, night in the woods, far lone sails etc
————
Knuckles!
- he’s for sure someone who mainly plays fighter games like street fighters and constantly gets his friends to try and play with him in a 1v1
- same goes with smash bros of course, he really enjoys it and likes to play against sonic
- knuckles also has loads of fun playing any justdance game with his friends. he gets competitive for sure but somehow always manages to get 2nd or 3rd
- and much like amy if he had the whole day to himself he could easily play hours and hours of his favourite game, fallout 4
- he usually likes to join the brotherhood of steal for their power armour and such
————
Tails!
- tails loves the portal games and especially loves to play portal two with sonic and explain the puzzles
- he also likes to play legend of zelda of games but his favourite is for sure tears of the kingdom because he can invent all kinds of stuff
- once in a while he’ll replay undertale because he enjoys the jokes and story but he can only ever do the pacifist run, he’s very emotionally invested
- and on the days where he simply just wants to sit back and relax he’ll unwind with games like unpacking, a little to the left, some animal crossing and so on
————
Rouge!
- now she doesn’t play many games but one of her favourites i feel like would be resident evil 4, both the original and the remake (a big part of it is because she really loves ada)
- she’ll play animal crossing for amy but doesn’t invest too much time in decorating and what not, though she does love how cute the game is
- and meanwhile thanks to knuckles she’s gotten pretty good at smash bros and street fighter since she plays with him the most
- and last but not least she also likes to play fromsoft games with shadow but she’s definitely more chill while playing

The Chain as Procrastinators
Part 1
Time procrastinates without remorse or regret.
He wouldn’t do it because he’s anxious about an upcoming task or feels overwhelmed since he stopped giving a shit about one ‘song of time’ ago. No it would rather be to just annoy whoever expected him to get it done. Small tasks like chores aren’t worth being petty over, besides he’d never be a bastard to his wife and the people he cares about. However, if say Zelda asked him to do something he didn’t want to do (like rather than attack a monster camp setting up near a village it would be escorting some goods or collecting something) he’d wait until the last possible second to do it.
Malon: There’s a royal carriage pulled up outside.
Time: [getting up from the sofa] She sent a messenger this time?!
Malon: Why don’t you just get it over with? It’ll take less than a day.
Time: [grabbing a piece of paper and pencil] That’s less than a day too long.
Time: Give this to whoever comes to the door; I wouldn’t bother speaking to them.
Malon: [takes the paper slip and watches him dash into the washroom with a smile, shaking her head slightly]
I get the feeling he still does things when he feels like it, even in his 30s, and isn’t ashamed at all.
Warriors procrastinates because of sometimes feeling the need for the piece of work to be perfect and that discourages him.
He is for the most part very put together. He organises training exercises, armour and weapon maintenance and unit expeditions efficiently. That being said, they’ll be those kinds of paperwork that he can’t bring himself to do and I think it’ll be somewhat of a perfectionist thing.
Since protocol means all his reports have to have a certain amount of detail and be of high quality, especially if the General or Princess will be reading it. Perhaps things like risk assessments or particularly long and eventful expeditions that call for meticulous records put him off doing the task, and do things like take longer to run drills. And he’s the sort who’d rather take on all the work, rather than delegate it.
Impa: [knocking on the door as she enters] Are those reports finished?
Warriors: [emerging from a pile of loose papers] What are you talking about? I requested an extension.
Impa: I didn’t receive a formal request from you.
Warriors: Oh. I was busy so I left it on your desk.
Impa: You mean that unsigned sheet of paper with ‘Need more time’ scribbled on it...?
Warriors: [rubbing his eyes] Is my request denied?
Impa: No, granted. And get some sleep Link.
On the flipside, for other types of paperwork he doesn’t mind, he’ll use that duty as an excuse to not do basic chores. He can never seem to settle down for even half an hour of dusting and sweeping when there are more important things he could be doing, like training.
Twilight procrastinates if he doesn’t feel he can do the task well.
He works to help develop Hyrule with the Resistance. It’s a duty I’m sure he’s passionate about and enjoys, but there’ll be some parts about it that he’s less fond of. There are probably meetings where everyone has to share things that could be improved about Hyrule- anything from infrastructure, to transport, to the army, anything really- and how to go about doing that.
He wouldn’t be a fan of those tasks since he’s not as knowledgeable and therefore helpful as say Shad and Ashei, who know more and have more varied experiences. And anyway, why do all that sitting around and thinking when he could be out helping on the ranch or running errands around Ordon?
Since he still get mail from the postman, throughout LU he’d probably still have those duties and put it off by being extra helpful around camp or asking Warriors for one more sparring round.
~~~
Thanks for reading.
Hyrule warriors Zelda official redesign! Full name Zelda Belloa Hyrule.
I know Hyrule Warriors isn’t a canon game, but honestly that’s what makes our rewrite of it so interesting to me. It’s both very different from the original and also kind of not that different, depending on if you’re looking at a surface or core level. We’ve made it a sort of sequel to Oot, inserting it in the child timeline between Oot and TP.
More info and thought processes on this design under the cut:
One of the things that is technically different but also sort of not really: Zelda is the main villain of the story!
Seriously, she‘s a genuinely awful person with hate in her heart. It does not matter what she destroys or who she hurts, it is all justified in her relentless quest for power. Yes she is very beautiful I know-- I did that on purpose. Traits commonly viewed as beautiful, such as thinness and fairness, are not indicators of goodness, just as traits commonly viewed as ugly are not indicators for badness. I wanted to use this common bias to further demonstrate Zelda’s deceptive nature. She is manipulative and dangerous. She is evil elf Barbie.
I initially wanted to keep the main colour of her outfits pink, to go more in on that evil elf barbie vibe, but unfortunately making her whole dress pink made me have a severe allergic reaction and break out into hives, due to an instinct that has been deeply ingrained in me ever since I was but a wee bairn and got pissed off when in disney’s sleeping beauty the pink dress won out over the blue one even though the blue is objectively better. Nintendo needs to stop putting Zeldas in pink because blue is always objectively better especially for the blonde ones.
Her castle clothes are pretty much completely invented, but her armour is slightly more based off her canon design. Just barely, but there are some elements there. When actually going into battle, she would put her hair fully up.
Lemme tell you, this Zelda goes into battle a lot. There’s a whole section on our timeline called the age of war and it’s pretty much just her running around doing whatever she wants and totally trampling anyone to tries to stop her.
Will the heroes of the Hyrule Warriors rewrite be able to stop her bloodthirsty rampage? You’ll have to wait and see...
hiii hihi hiii hello this is raurus disembodied right arm speaking
havent responded to the big reblog chain yet. but that headcanon idea sounded neat...uh uh uh uh. idk if you would like to do some champion headcanons but :]
HI!!!!!! thumbs up take ur time always!!! AND SURE :D
i’ll start with urbosa as she was the one i was think abt currently- i like to think she has stuff both from the queen and zelda: like dishes/cutlery + jewelry from the queen and wall mounts with dried and pressed flowers in them + guardian parts and tools. as such i think she hordes but pretends she doesnt. she has molduking parts/guts and has it as a trophy! i would say she’d keep the weapons as trophies from the molduking but 1. she’d have access to better weapons than those and 2. those weapons likely came from travelers who either died or killed the thing, so itd be like shes reveling in someones death if she took the weapons (looking away from the vah naboris war crime incident.) she’d teach mipha how to make creamy hearty soup + it was probably a dish she and the queen shared a lot (especially if she died due to illness!), i think she’d have a garden (partly due to zelda and partly for resources, either flowers for gods/departed loved ones or stuff like food and such.) or like. 1 potted plant., she had Problems with the shield surfing trial and was frustrated about it, possibly dances for fun + has books on different styles of dance from other races or regions, also because of the flower thing i think she prays to farore the most
mipha!! i think she’d be mildly scared of urbosa (mainly due to thhe electricity thing), SHES JACKED. one of her trials has her defeat flying guardians and trying to do waterblight with her weapons is decently hard. so i like to think combat wise shes horrifying, possible a prankster (especially when younger!), lots of opal and topaz jewlery but enjoys . i. i would say rose quartz but im remembering a certain Something, i feel like revali and her would be like siblings without sibling baggage. like theres definitely a mutual friendship but also Violence depending on how you look at it. they will team up however mipha will also cause psychological torment. i think she’d like to use the small zora sword from time to time and practices either with urbosa , revali, or link with it!, collects fish scales :], possibly knows a bit of armor terminology? king dorephan used to have an armour shop but it was removed (this is said in botw by the lady who gives us the trousers). i like to think she’d like to sit at shatterback point. at night either for the stars the glowing domain or naydra if she could see em
revali!!! he keeps a part dinraals horn as a trophy from his trials, possibly under an adult? its a popular hc due to his cheeks which is common for kid rito however kass Also has it! either way though its a neat idea, when you fight windblight having his gear he actually has a feathered edge sword which i like to think means revali ALSO TRAINED AT SWORD FIGHTING. he didnt have the time because he kept practicing archery but he either A. genuinely wanted to fight link and wanted to even the playing field or B wanted to one up link. or C. he decided to pick it up just in case either due to an Incident or to cover his bases. he likes bomb arrows A Lot and also quick draw bows!!!, it’s debatable whether hes good with kids but he Does care for them as he opened up the flight range for them once i believe, i like to think he likes fish pie, guy is absolutely broke compared to the champions, on one hand itd be Cool if he knew about one of the hebra hotsprings however i dont think he’d venture that far out Or take care of himself unless it was Bad bad (theres no honor in suffering!)
daruk!! this one i dont have a lot on,,,,, i think he’d be smarter than he portrays himself (especially with the standing on lava trial) + still try to lighten to mood, i’d like to think he’d try to draw from time to time!, would get embarrassed if people knew he drew from time to time, respects the idea of the dead souls being in luminous stones and does Not eat them, has not pranked anyone yet but he Gladly would. in secret of course, i like to think he’d throw/punt link like how susie throws kris at enemies. he also does this for revali before he can use his gale sometimes, he can skip rocks in lava and is pretty good at that ‘throw the pouch in a wooden board with a hole’ game
hi!! it's me the "love confessions" anon again
thank you for doing my request!!! I really liked it!! the concept and the idea is *chef kiss* 🤌🤌🤌 and character emotions, feelings and relationships are always so vivid in your works
I have another prompt, it's oddly specific: a medieval scientist prince? please? they are like princess Bubblegum or BOTW Zelda, but any gender
prince seems cold and aloof, they only care about experiments and inventions. they thought romance is just a chemical reaction, until they met their trusted knight
also, can I have a 🧸 emoji as a signature? I'm going to send you even more asks, and I want you to recognize me 👉👈
Oh my gosh! You have no idea how much I screamed when I saw another ask, especially from you. You most certainly can have 🧸 emoji and I would love more asks. I really hope this is at least decent, seeing as I haven't watched Adventure Time nor have, I played Zelda, so I wasn't entirely certain how to write the prince character. Anyways, I hope you love it 🧸!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was in the palace library. That's where I met him. My knight. I was searching for another book of new inventions and old ones. I wanted to figure out how to make a mechanical clock myself. They were fairly new. Of course, seeing as they were new it was rather silly of me to think there would be any books on the topic in our library just yet. I would have to order some. Instead, I grabbed a book describing how a carriage was made. It had been one of my favourite books since I was young. In fact, it was the book that caused my interest in science to grow.
I turned from the shelf only to be met with a man in shining silver armour. "Good afternoon, your highness." He bowed. "I have recently been made your personal knight. Seeing as you are the eldest of your siblings and therefore next in line for the throne, your parents decided it was finally time to assign you a bodyguard." "What? Does that mean you'll with me at all times?" "Nearly all times, that is correct." He smiled. It was genuine. I wasn't used to that. "I- I don't-" I tried to object to the idea. "Oh, a book on carriage building. It's rather interesting, isn't it?" "You aren't stupid?" I lost control, forgetting that was a rude thing to say, even though most of the servants (and nobility) often were stupid. "I apologies. That was rude of me." He stared at me for a moment before his smile returned. "Well, I understand why you might think that. I don't necessarily have the same kind of education as you do. In fact, I might only have knowledge of any form of science because my mother is a healer and my father a mechanic. He owns a copy of the book you're holding now actually." "I see." "So-" I cut him off quickly. "Please, when you are with me stay as silent as you possibly can. I need to focus, and you talk a lot." "Apologies, your highness."
~Next day~
It was early morning. I assumed five o'clock. I was in my small laboratory, where I often experimented with medicines. Nothing too large as I was not as skilled with mixing things as I was with tinkering. That morning, I was trying to create a paste designed to help soothe rashes, allergic reactions and irritated skin. When it is put on your skin it is supposed to turn green. However, when I placed some on mine the paste turned a strange shade of brown. This was not good. I washed it off as quickly as I possibly could, but it was too late, my skin began stinging and turning red. I still tried washing it with cold water but as I did so it seemed to get worse and sting a great deal more than originally. I audibly groaned in pain. "Your highness, are you alright?" A voice said from the doorway. I turned to find that my new bodyguard was standing there with concern on his face. "I'm fine." I hissed through gritted teeth. The knight looked at the jar of paste on the bench and the open medicine book beside it. "Oh god. It turned brown on your skin, didn't it?" He asked. "Y-yes. How did you know that?!" "I made that mistake a few times. Stop washing it with cold water, you're only making it worse." "What? But-" "Trust me. My mother does this for a living, remember? I know what I'm talking about. Taking it out of the cold water." I did as he instructed. He walked over to me as he pulled his own jar of light green paste from his pocket. It looked just like what I had been trying to make. "Why do you have that?" I asked. "Sometimes the armour I wear irritates my skin. I keep this on me just in case." He gestured toward my red forearm. "May I?" Slowly I allowed him to my arm in his hands. They were calloused. Like any hark-workers hands would be. There was even some dirt under a few of his nails. Strangely, despite his rough hands his touch was gentle, as he rubbed some of the paste on my red skin. "You seem experienced with this." I said. "When I was younger, I assisted my mother with her work." He finished slathering the cool cream on my arm. "There you go. Much better." He grinned at me again.
I felt something strange in my stomach and arm tingled where the knight had been touching it and there was a heat on the tips of my ears. These were all signs of physical attraction. But that couldn't be happening to me. Not right now. Not with him. Science says that attraction is strictly between a man and a woman, even fiction agrees with that fact. There has never been any story, fictional or otherwise, where a man was attracted to another man, nor a woman attracted to another woman. This was impossible. Attraction is the brain acting on the human's urge to reproduce. Only a man and a woman could do that. "Are you alright, your highness. You seem confused with something. Oh, am I talking too much for your liking?" "No!" I know I replied far too quickly. "I just-" I must not be as smart as I originally thought, because next thing I say is one of the most stupid things I've ever thought of. "Why am I attracted to you?" He stares at me for at least a minute until he finally replies with his own question. "Why do you think you're attracted to me?" "I'm experiencing all the symptoms." "Symptoms? It's not an illness." "It might as well be. It distracts the mind from more important things." "Do you not thing love, or lust are important things?" He was so... innocent. His intentions were pure. I could tell just by how he touched me, how he spoke to me. I couldn't bring myself to speak so roughly to him anymore. "Of course not. How do either of those benefit life, society, humans? They don't. The only thing they do is keep the human race alive with reproduction." "I don't think that's the only good thing of romance and such. I think love makes the world a more beautiful place. A happier place. And lust allows the body freedom and physical enjoyment. They both feel good. And feeling good has a positive effect on people and their surroundings." It was such a silly thing to think, and yet it made so much sense. I'd heard others say similar things. But when my knight said it... it sounded so honest. It sounded like something I could believe. Ideas I could agree with. "Even so, we're both men." I argue. "Well, I think that gender doesn't actually play a part in attraction. You love a person because of who they are not what they are. Don't you think?" "I suppose." "If it makes you feel less awkward, I find you attractive myself. So, the feeling is mutual. Though before we acted upon anything, if that is what you want to do, I would like to get to know you." I was surprised. I never thought I would be attracted to anyone at all, let alone did I think anyone would be attracted to me. I thought that one day I would be forced into an arranged marriage with some princess so that we could make an heir to the throne. But this was different. I wanted to talk to this man. I was interested in his thoughts, in what he had to say. I wanted to do things with him, like characters do in fairytales. I've never felt this way before. I didn't know what to do. "My prince, please don't feel obligated to say yes." "I don't. That's the problem. I want to say yes. But I've never done anything like this before. I've never felt this way for anyone. I don't want to waste your time." His time?! What about my time?! Why was I thinking about how this could affect him?! His confused face transformed into a wide grin. His teeth were showing for the first time. Why did this make my cheeks heat up? Why did I feel... fuzzy... inside? "I would never think of the pursuit of romance as a waste of time. Even if it doesn't amount to anything much. It's a beautiful thing, even to just try." I agreed. "Then where do we begin?"

Analysis of the Hyrule Warriors Designs Pt.1
I’m doing a whole thing with redesigning Hyrule Warriors atm so I’m doing this post as a way to keep all of my thoughts and design ideas in one place. Just gonna go character by character and give my thoughts.
I’m not taking games like BotW into account when doing this because the game hadn’t been released yet when HW was in development/released. I’ll also not talk about characters who’s designs had been minimally changed to fit the new style - if changed at all. Just going to talk about the main characters, antagonists, and a few DLC characters I have a few thoughts about. All images and information is from the Zelda Wiki along with  gameplay on YouTube, so not all this information may be 100% accurate since I don’t own the game myself.
In this part is Link, Zelda, Impa, Lana, and Cia.
Link
Starting off with the main man himself! Obviously up to this point, Link has generally had a very set design; the green tunic and hat (which is actually talked about many times both in this game and the series), so I didn’t expect them to come up with anything different. It’s recognisable, it’s a classic. Though, Hyrule Warriors does something very small but very significant:
Tumblr media
He’s given this scarf as a way to distinguish him from other Zelda titles. I think this is especially needed, considering the fact that most Zelda games use their styles to distinguish each other. But now, in a gaming market where models with such high quality like this are the norm, there needs to be a way to make this  Link recognisable. I personally think they did an amazing job with it too.
Not only that, but the way he’s dressed in context of the situation makes sense. He’s a soldier of war so he wears pauldrons, bracers, shin guards, and chainmail, but being a hero is meant to be something shown off, to heighten moral with the troops and intimidate their enemies, so he doesn’t wear the typical chestplate that would conceal the green tunic.
Personally, there’s nothing I would do to redesign this character. The design team did an incredible job putting a spin on a design that’s so set in stone at that point in time. Even why the blue fabric is so saturated makes sense from a game design perspective, where it would be hard to see Link’s character model in the swarms of enemies.
And I know these don’t tie into canon since these are merely costumes, but I adore the way they changed Link’s character model for the other Link’s tunics (specifically Adult OOT Link, SS Link, TP Link, and Zelda 1 and 2 Link). Apologies for the sizes of the images, I’m pulling them straight off of the wiki.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fact that they changed the entire style for a single model is some dedication, already knowing what an absolute task it is to complete this game. While I’m not entirely sure if the OOT costume is meant to be so angular as a nod to the graphic of the original game or if the render on the wiki isn’t the correct quality, I’m going to assume that it is, and congratulate them on that too. They all have different qualities to the models; OOT is very angular, SS has softer shapes and colours, TP is very realistic with desaturated colour scheme (props to whoever modelled his hair), and Classic is much simpler and has much warmer undertones.
It’s off topic, but I thought I should give it a mention.
Zelda
Next up is our favourite princess, Zelda. This is a design I have quite a few problems with. I’d like to say up front that this design is gorgeous, as well as the modelling, however this is about the factors in the character design and not the vibes.
Tumblr media
My first and biggest problem with this design is the armour and it’s context within the game. For those unaware, this is the first ever game (not including the CD-i games) that Zelda has been a playable character, which means she is able to fight in the war. The big issues is the lack of appropriate armour and coverings. Starting with the armour, Zelda has the entirety of the neck, top of her chest, stomach, legs, and arms open for attack, which when your THE princess of Hyrule, is not a great thing. It’s a wonder why she’s even allowed to fight because of her status, but that’s a conversation about the plot holes for another time.
The lack of clothing covering her is astonishing. Not only is the design not very practical (the shorts instead of pants, the giant slit in the skirt down the middle, the entire chest, upper arms, and armpits exposed etc), it should be considered dangerous in universe to put Zelda in. The pieces of armour at her hip is quite impractical since it’s not protecting anything vital. I’d also like to know how her boots work with the entire boot looking so stiff and as if the shoe is unable to move at the ankle. Not only that but the detailing in the armour makes her top half look very cluttered.
Another gripe I have is her hairstyle. Yes, I get that most of Zeldas are platinum blonde and have their hair tied back, but I feel like the team that remixed Link’s design about 7 times in different styles should have experimented more. In my opinion, the most recognisable Zeldas are those which stray from the norm. For example, TP Zelda very clearly is a brunette, which makes her stand out from the rest. SS Zelda’s design is recognisable as Zelda, whilst not being in a fancy princess-y garb. The Toon Zeldas’ designs are used over and over again for a reason; they’re highly recognisable for their sailor-like dresses. I’m also gonna argue that her crown (circlet? tiara?) seems too jagged and sharp for a design decorated with flowing lines and curves. I will give the design some credit - the decorations hanging from the tips of the hair are somewhat unique and I do quite like them.
I’m also gonna give props to the modellers for once again remixing the styles for the different costumes. I am also confused as to why Zelda got a costume for Illia, but I love the girl so I’m not complaining.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, apologies for the image sizes.
Now, there’s a lot to fix with this design, from the armour, to the clothing, to the hair, so I present to you my own personal redesign of HW Princess Zelda:
Tumblr media
I can’t say I came up with the idea for her more Greek-goddess styled clothing myself - it actually came from her title in the Linked Universe fandom; ‘Athena’ or ‘Artemis’ (I’ve heard both but I personally prefer Athena). I decided to stick with the idea due to Athena being the Greek Goddess of War, Wisdom, and Strategy, which I think fits Zelda pretty well.
Main changes are mostly to giving her a proper chestplate in place of the armour at her hips, giving her more layers and changing the style of dress to something slightly more toga-like, and her hair and crown. I did want to keep her hair up but decided that the way I styled it was unique enough to be recognisable.
At the point of writing, I’m suffering through a heatwave and my laptop is on borrowed time before it overheats, so it’s quite messy. For a better quality image of my idea: my better illustration of Zelda.
Impa
Impa’s design is a bit of a mixed bag for me personally. Her top half is very interesting and speaks to a lot of her inspirations. But the bottom half of her design is quite bland. While there is a Sheikah crest on her chest plate, if you take it away, it’s a little harder to tell that she’s a Sheikah.
Tumblr media
It’s quite clear that the concept design team’s biggest inspiration were previous Impas, specifically SS and OOT. The issue is that it feels like it took too much inspiration from Skyward Sword, with the scarf, belt and feathers, and hair. To illustrate my point:
Tumblr media
It’s understandable why Impa looks so different in SS compared to other modern games in the franchise - the Sheikah tribe hasn’t been established yet. However, in HW, it’s stated that Impa is the leader of the Sheikah Tribe, and yet she looks out of place beside Sheik (which is a whole other sack of snakes to do with the plot).
Additionally, her chest is quite open for attack with her chestplate covering a single part of her chest. And also, she doesn’t have anything on beneath her arm guards, which also leaves the backs of her arms open.
Really, these are quite minor grievances I have - I actually like this take on Impa, if my reaction is a bit mixed. As I’ve said the top half of her design is my favourite, she’s obviously inspired by feudal Japanese samurai, with the opening of her shirt (which looks to be based on a yukata though I’m not entirely sure) and the armour beneath the cut-out in her pants.
I think the reason I’m a little put off by the bottom half is because of the way her pants were modelled. They look almost denim jean-like, and it’s generally resolved in the concept art where Impa looks to have quite baggy trousers on.
Tumblr media
Her outfit looks almost like some kind of romper/jumpsuit in this artwork, which I think looks quite good. I have a bit of an issue again with the lack of chest and arm coverage, but I think the big thing is that the model’s slight differences add up. For example, the brighter blue with the tighter pants is the thing that makes her trousers look like jeans. The makeup around Impa’s eye also adds a nice touch to an otherwise bland face.
How I would change this design is larger to do with leaning into more of her different influences - namely the idea of a war general in Feudal Japan. I’d also change her hair to keep it further away from SS Impa (though I do love the style), as well as changing her armour to be slightly closer to how it’d be made in Feudal Japan - iron, scale-like plates tied together - just to tie it closer into the theme. I think that the scarf feels a little strange as you can’t see the end, so I propose to turn it into a cape pinned to Impa’s shoulders via a brooch (kinda similar to soldier in Ancient Greece to tie a bit into Zelda). Also, I like playing with the idea that she has a small collection of weaponry attached to her such as tanto, washizashi, tessen/war fans etc.
Some personal ideas:
Tumblr media
Overall, Impa’s design looks quite nice, though some few issues make it hard to enjoy what would be a great design!
Lana and Cia
Okay now here’s the designs I have the most issues with. I have a personal vendetta against these designs. I’m lumping them together because they have many of the same critiques.
(*EDIT: As of now on, I have updated Cia’s redesign. See here to take a look.)
Tumblr media
Lana. Love her or hate her, you have to agree that her design does not belong in the Zelda franchise. With the series being set so firmly in Medieval times (possibly England), most of the active human characters in the story wear practical clothing which would be some variation of tunic and appropriate leg-wear. The only difference are nobles like Zelda who wear the appropriate gowns and garb. Lana’s design in the meanwhile, is very modern, and looks almost akin to a character from a magical girl show. It would not be farfetched to show her to someone who has never seen Madoka Magica and tell them that she is Sayaka.
I get what they were going for with her design; Lana and Cia are sorceresses from beyond time and space, they should wear non-traditional clothing to signify this. The idea is great in theory, but it doesn’t work when you put them next to the other characters. They look like they’re from completely different games. I’m thinking it’s the Dynasty Warriors influence creeping into her design since both Hyrule Warriors and Dynasty Warriors are Musuo games.
Here’s a short list of a few of my biggest gripes with Lana’s design:
1. All of that skin exposed. Just because Lana is a sorceress, doesn’t mean that she wouldn’t get absolutely obliterated by an actual weapon to the gut. I’m fine with her not having armour since you could argue that she is fast and agile, but the fabric covering her is either none-existent or extremely thin.
2. Her outfit is extremely impractical. Not only is the one-sided cloak just not useful at all for keeping in heat and protecting the body from the elements, but her tiny skirt and sleeves would make it hard to walk around without flashing someone and hold normal objects respectively. You also see her walking around with a giant tome, but you never see on her design where she puts it or gets it from.
3. Doesn’t fit with the franchise’s established setting. I’ve already talked about this.
4. Her hair is quite odd for someone supposedly from a random clan in Hyrule. Everyone in Hyrule has naturally occurring hair colours (browns, blondes, blacks, and white for the Sheikah), yet Lana has bright cyan hair. It makes her look quite out of place with the cast who all have relatively normal hair. Not only that, but her hair piece makes her stick out from a crowd.
Tumblr media
As with Lana, Cia shares many of these gripes. Personally, hers is a little less on the annoying side as Cia is doing most of the fighting behind the scenes through magic, so she doesn’t need a lot of the practicality the other character’s outfits should have.
Tumblr media
So I’m not constantly bitching about the designs, I will say that Cia’s design looks quite nice. The colour scheme works very well together, especially the bright pops of red. The bird-like mask and hat is also very recognisable and does a similar thing to her silhouette as Link’s. I also love how they brought the red down the leg to create more continuity between the top and bottom halves. I quite like the short white hair she has when she’s unmasked and how you can see her ties with Lana quite easily without it.
That being said, my biggest issue with Cia’s design again falls on practicality. I won’t drag Cia’s design too hard with the setting since many antagonist designs are meant to be over-the-top and somewhat fantastical, especially when they aren’t mortal. I mean just look at Ghirahim. I accept that while Lana is trying to fit in with Hyrulean society somewhat to establish herself as someone who is fighting against Cia and since Cia doesn’t to do that, her design is more out-of-the-box. Cia looks out of place next to Link, Zelda, and other pre-established characters, and I think it fits quite well since she’s meant to look out of place. I guess it’s the issue of making them look too out-of-place so they don’t look like they’re from the same franchise.
With Cia, she may be a sorceress, but she started a war ffs. She knows there’s people out to kill her and yet she’s dressed in an outfit that exposes the entirety of her torso, stomach, and limbs. One swing from a sword in the right spot, and it’s over for her. Now I’m absolutely not against characters having more ‘sexy’ designs, I love when characters wear revealing clothing, but only when within logical reason. Cia’s design might fit in a game where the entire country wasn’t after her and was just Link and/or Zelda.
And since both Lana and Cia have their own unique plot-relevant costumes, I might as well talk about them too.
Tumblr media
Both of these depict them in their ‘Guardian of Time’ costumes, which shows what the Guardian of Time Cia looked before her split into both Cia and Lana. First, I love the different detail changes in each other’s costumes with the switching between purples and blues and the length of the dress changing, I think it’s quite cute. I do also like that the feather motif is continued from Cia’s design, which makes me wish that Lana had more of a feather or bird motif to her outfit. I think the dress looks quite nice and I love the detailing, but I personally don’t like the split off front panel. I just think it makes the legs look quite awkward.
Quick side note because it can’t be me, but I’m sure they made Cia paler for this outfit, which doesn’t happen for any other costume. If anything, her skin tone gets darker. It feels almost off due to the fact that these are the characters in costumes, not as the unsplit Guardian of Time. It’s very quick, but I thought I’d talk about that observation.
Because I’ve rambled on long enough, I present my ideas for redesigns of Lana and Cia:
Tumblr media
I’m personally still on the nose about the pants on Cia’s design, but I think it might fit. I’ve changed it so most of the practicality and setting issues are checked off, while also adding symbolism. I’ve always seen Lana and Cia whole thing as being admiration vs obsession, so some of Lana’s design elements take inspiration from previous Links, namely the sleeve from TP, and the boot cuffs most noticeably from OOT. This is while Cia’s design takes directly from designs of his companions as if she’s jealous of them (the sleeve being similar to Fi’s arm-sleeve-thing for example). In addition, Cia also has chains instead of her coin-fringe-like cuff, as if she’s bound to a deal or under the control of Ganondorf.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
TL;DR
While I’ll give my overall thoughts in the final post, from these five characters, my general thoughts are:
Link: They did an amazing job at distinguishing him from the previous Links. The scarf adds a lovely touch of colour to a usually muted green colour palette. One of the best spins on a LoZ character in the game.
Zelda: It’s not very practical and the flowing lines don’t match up with the sharper parts of her design. The dress is good at distinguishing her from other Zeldas due to the front slit and armour despite this.
Impa: A mixed bag of a design. The concept art displays the design quite well, though the model’s pants seem too tight and saturated, to the point they look like denim jeans. It takes a lot of inspiration from Skyward Sword to the point it’s very noticeable, but the top half of Impa’s design makes her very interesting to look at.
Lana: One of my least favourite designs. Her clothing feels very out of place for a Zelda character in this setting, almost as if she were from a modern magical girl show. Her design is very impractical seeing as she’s fighting directly in a war.
Cia: Shares a few issues with Lana. Her design is very revealing, which though can be good for some characters, goes against her as she has an entire country fighting against her in a war. Despite this, the idea that she looks out of place and fantastical works somewhat well due to being an antagonist who isn’t trying to fit in or was raised in medieval society. The issue is that it feels a bit too out of place.
Lorepost: Chapter Sixteen, “Leap of Faith”
By popular reader request, TTYE lore posts are companion pieces for each chapter of the story breaking down all of the Legend of Zelda lore and references made in each chapter, for readers looking to learn more about LoZ or just refresh their knowledge. This chapter contains explanations for: Bokoblin Dinner Dance, Koroks, and the Hero’s Shade.
Tumblr media
Bokoblins Dancing
“What were these little assholes doin’ out in the middle of goddamned nowhere?” Jounouchi muttered, wiping the blood off his axe.
“Enjoying their dinner,” Yuugi said sadly. He always felt bad killing bokoblins, especially after he’d learned that they had an adorable habit of dancing around their campfires after a particularly good meal.
Yup, it’s true. Bokoblins like to dance when left to their own devices. It’s extremely cute. The sick rave music is not canon.
Tumblr media
Koroks
Koroks have been around in several Zelda games. They are little forest spirits who live under the guardianship of the Great Deku Tree, aka this guy:
Tumblr media
Yup, that is a large talking tree with a moustache. He presides over the forest where the Koroks live. The Great Deku Tree also has a special connection to Link himself. In The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - set long, long before most other Zelda games - the Koroks were called the Kokiri, and appeared as small children instead of wooden sprites. Link was raised by the Great Deku Tree as a Kokiri until discovering he was actually a Hylian, and would thus grow up, unlike the rest of his friends.
(If you’ll recall, in the jungle Anzu dreams about a little girl named Saria, who was Link’s best friend - Saria was a Kokiri.)
The Koroks travel all over Hyrule and only make themselves known when they want to. In this case they have an instinctual love of Saria’s Song, which makes them trust our heroes enough to show themselves.
Tumblr media
The Hero’s Shade
“I don’t really know,” Eri said helplessly, waving her hands. “He just used to take Link to another place to train him - some kind of foggy alternate Hyrule - and he’s…um, he’s tall, and mostly made of bones, and he wears armour…”
“Great,” Kaiba muttered. “So I’m being followed by a lich.”
“He’s not a lich,” Eri protested. “He’s Link. An older incarnation. He chose to forego the afterlife to guide newer incarnations of Link on their adventures.” She turned to Anzu. “He’s the same Link from your soldier dream.”
This spirit is Link from Ocarina of Time. He shows up in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess to train the Link from those games in the ways of swordsmanship. It’s never explicitly confirmed in-game that he is Ocarina of Time Link, but it’s practically canon. I also gave him a wee bit more personality than his in-game dialogue :)
The “mistakes” he is referring to are a fascinating part of the story in Ocarina of Time. In this game, Hyrule’s downfall is brought about directly by Link and Zelda when they are children - no adults trust Zelda’s visions about the Gerudo prince Ganondorf, and so she and Link take matters into their own hands to try and outwit him. In the process they accidentally allow him entrance to the Sacred Realm, where he is able to get his hands on the Triforce and cause immense damage. As adults Link and Zelda must fight on in a doomed Hyrule to reverse the catastrophe and make things right. At the end of that game, Zelda sends Link back in time to relive his childhood as an act of charity.
As the Hero’s Shade explains to Kaiba:
“We were young,” the Shade said quietly. “So young, although that is a meagre excuse for the mistakes we made. Zelda…she meant only to return to me the childhood that I had lost. She sent me back seven years. In doing so we split the branches of Time itself - and thus her Hyrule was robbed of its Hero, condemning it to be flooded and born anew, while in my Hyrule I roamed with an endless restlessness until my quiet and unacknowledged death.” He sighed. “And in yet another timeline we were both of us defeated, murdered and divested of our pieces of the Golden Power, allowing the Demon King to create a dark, twisted realm that was almost Hyrule’s undoing.”
The doomed Hyrules he is referring to are The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and the Dark World from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Zelda Fan
Tumblr media
I finished the main story of the game in 40 hours. And it took me a month and a half to get there since the game was released. So I’m going to let you know what I thought about it.
Breath of the Wild 2?
So this game is very similar to Breath of the wild. A lot of the same characters, same overworld (there are sky and underground versions of the map now, but I’ll talk about that later) same armor, same Korok mini puzzle-fuckers. (These fags ↓)
Tumblr media
And their fat uncle is back too (except I know what he actually does this time) He gives you additional weapon, shield and bow slots so you can carry more shit.
New Powers of Hell
The best addition to the game is the new power ups. You have Fuse, which lets you combine items onto your shield, weapons and arrows for lots of cool effects. You can combine a rocket to your shield and fly into the sky. You can add a boulder to your spear and smash everything. You can attach an eyeball to your arrow and it will home in on enemies.
Next is Ascend, you can go through any ceiling in the game. So you can actually build a ceiling and phase through it. This mainly helps with traversal so you don’t have to waste as much time climbing.
There is also Rewind which lets you rewind the position of an object. Mainly used for puzzles, but can be used to catch things that have fallen off a cliff. And can also be used to fly into the sky. As parts of the sky islands crumble off and you can reverse them to go back up into the sky.
Ultra hand (of hell) lets you pick things up with telekinesis and build contraptions.
You can build this guy and give him a cock cannon if you wanted.
Tumblr media
Heaven and Hell
So they added a sky and underground section to the game, which adds a lot more content to the base map. Unfortunately they aren’t spectacular. The sky has some puzzles and sky islands which can be good to explore between quests. The underground though is just a pitch black grind hell. If you're a basement dweller you'll be very comfortable here. It’s kind of lame. The whole area is a dark cave with monsters that curse you if they hit you. Getting cursed means a section of your health becomes unhealable. OK Dark Souls…
Batteries? In Zelda?
Yeah. Zelda has mechs and shit now. It’s kind of gone from fantasy to fantasy X steam punk. In this game you have a battery meter for when you use your contraptions i.e. automaton with cock-cannon. Unfortunately the default battery is ass and most things fizzle out in a matter of seconds. You can upgrade the battery a lot, but the game is super stingy with the price. The battery can be upgraded a whopping 21 times! With casual play I managed to upgrade it 2 times. So if you want to actually have fun with your inventions you have to go grind resources. Grinding in Zelda? No thanks.
Armour
Don’t even bother man. I won without a single upgrade and so can you! They made this such a pain in the ass. To upgrade your armour in this game you have to unlock Great Fairies who can upgrade your shit. There are 4 of them and they all do different upgrades. To unlock them you have to do a fetch quest and then drive some bozos over to the site so they can wake up the fairies with their music. Kind of like waking up Snorlax in Pokemon Red. When driving these dudes, if you so much as drive over a bump they will have a fit and you have to restart. Yay! Once you do unlock a fairy you can upgrade your armour using a fixed combination of resources. You cannot pay with money like you could in BotW. So go grind some more Link!
Rusty Weapons?
For some story reason that doesn’t really make any sense: all the weapons are rusted so they are weak and break really quickly. Fortunately you can use your Fuse ability to combine shit to make the weapons do more damage and usually increase durability, but it’s kind of lame to have a few of your weapons break in just a single combat. Especially the more powerful rare weapons that still just break in a couple of hits.
This is the LEGENDARY Fierce Deity Sword. I had to do a string of quests to get it along with the matching armour set.
Tumblr media
It broke within a minute of use 🙂
Bosses
Bosses were overall decent, but some were a bit tedious and repetitive. One of them has a swarm of minions that keep getting summoned from these hives, which you can destroy. This interaction is always kind of annoying. The kicker is that you can actually get to the boss room early before the fight, but the hives are invulnerable. So you just get to look at em and know they are going to fuck you up later.
There is a robot boxing boss which was more creative as you can customize your bot mid fight to have like a cannon arm or mace arm.
Monkey Puzzles
Yeah you read that right. Some of the puzzles were in part or completely designed by baboons. Overall the puzzles are very inventive and can be solved in a multitude of different ways and often you can just cheat the puzzle completely by building like a rocket and flying over to the goal.
However some monkey brain ideas and designs have crept into the game which completely tarnish these puzzles. The main issue is unintuitive design or not conveying the purpose of objects to the player. I.e. there is a floor that is covered in flames that you use to melt a large ice cube, but what I didn’t know is that there is a switch to open the fucking door under the jet of flames.
Also I’ve played every Zelda game 😎 And there’s a recurring puzzle where you've got to shoot a crystal switch with an arrow to open a door. They did it once in this game except you can’t even tell that you’re supposed to shoot it because it just looks like a shitty pole.
My Little Pony
There are horses again. It depends on your play style, but they were kind of useless to me because there are a lot of cliffs that they cannot traverse so you have to ditch the horse after a few seconds of riding. You can whistle, but it doesn't just summon the horse to you. It only calls them over from a certain distance.
Story and Cutscenes
The story is pretty boring. Probably written and made for people that enjoy Twilight. They even made Zelda and Ganondorf vampires. I don't like the cutscenes. They're mainly just about the made up history of a new new ancient civilization and some scenes of Ganondorf being a dickhead to people. The majority of the cutscenes are found within the overworld and are completely optional and luck based if you will find them. You can also watch them out of order? wtf?
Another example of the developers being a little bit stupid is they show you the same cutscene 4 times. Because you can do the 4 main temples in any order so they were just like “umm what do we do? how do we tell the story given we don't know the order they'll complete the temples?” Impossible solution right? “Let's just make each supporting character tell the same story so it's not confusing.” Morons lol. Thank shit you can skip cutscenes.
There are some random shorter cutscenes which should be skippable. Everytime you unlock a skyview tower which reveals part of the world map, you have to watch the same cutscene of link jerking off in the sky
Friends
During the 4 main temples of the game you have a support character that joins you and they have personalities and say things. WOW! Then after you beat the boss they say “I'll support you on your journey Link!” then they give you this spirit clone version of themselves so they can stay at home because they are too lazy to help you in person. The clone version has no personality, but gameplay wise works the exact same. Overall it’s quite cool to have these companions follow you around for the rest of the game. Would be nicer if they weren’t lifeless husks though. Makes me miss my boyfriends from FFXV.
Some monkey over at Nintendo got loose on the control config for the supports and made them all activate their abilities with the same button: A. So in the midst of combat you pretty much have to go up and spam A and activate all of their abilities. During larger combats and bosses these dudes are fucking infuriating. They will actively run away from you when you need to use their abilities. Causing you to then get hit and die 🙂
Also this cute, almost duck-like fella is one of your new friends:
Tumblr media
He has an ability that summons a gust of wind. Which is pretty useful when paragliding around. However this cheeky fuck likes to sometimes stand right next to dropped items and as you go to pick them up with A, he blows them all to Kingdom Fuck.
Finale
The last boss was more enjoyable in hindsight as he’s a bit of a bitch in the fact that it's multiple stages where you can't leave to get healing items or save the game. In this section you get cursed when you get hit meaning you need specific potions or you need to leave the temple to get cured. Except you can't leave so unless you're a god-gamer you pretty much have to abandon your progress and potentially regrind and re-gear up.
And also they did another spectacle final phase of the last boss which is one-dimensional, requires no skills and was pretty much as lame as it was last time.
Conclusion
I gave the game a lot of shit, but I did beat it and when it was fun it was some good shit. But anyone saying this game is a perfect 10/10 is either IGN or just another huge sell out. The game sometimes struggles to run on the Switch and loses frames when too many particle effects are on screen or when building things with the Ultra Hand ability. It would probably be nicer to play on an emulator if you’ve got the cash for a PC.
I beat the main story and won’t be playing any more of the side quests that I didn’t do the first time through. I had a google to see if there was anything worth doing. There’s not really anything interesting. Just fetch quests, collecting shit like armour and weapons and fighting reskinned bosses in the underground.
I kind of miss the old Zelda formula, but after the success of these 2 games, I don’t think we will be seeing it anytime soon. Except for when they do another soulless remaster and sell it for full price 🙂
Local resident Zonai knower, I have no knowledge about the Zonai and I've tried to engage in the theories but it's a complete and utter rabbit hole. I presume you know about the Zonai theories so I have to ask either where can I find the basic info or what is the basic info? I recently got the Barbarian Armour Set (I do agree it's very odd they're referred to as war-like and barbarians but setting that aside) and I've been looking at the ruins in Faron so an interest has been ignited within me.
pffft, I do not consider myself much of a Zonai expert, I haven't studied the theories or anything, but the thing about the Zonai is that we really don't know much about them at all. What they looked like, why they made mazes all around Hyrule, or what even happened to them. But, coincidentally, I am working on my own interpretation of them for my Priestesses AU and that involves a little bit of studying what we do know about them on my part so, without further ado, onto the lore and theories!
First of all, let's start with what we can infer directly from the game, they are often described as 'savage' and 'warlike', (which seems like Hylian racism if you ask me...) but that doesn't mean they were primitive or anything, they were had strong magic and invented rubber, a technology that was lost with them. (Though that's only implied as it's an 'ancient material' with the ability to create it being long lost and all the parts being found in Faron... it's not a hard inference to make.)
The statues that are scattered around Faron correlate to the pieces of the triforce or the golden goddesses, implying that they were what was worshipped instead of Hylia. There are primarily owls for Nayru, suggesting that they greatly valued wisdom, the dragon around the spring of courage and generally decorating a lot of their stonework, and a few boar heads here and there, though they seem less important and are much harder to find. (also creating a champion states that they worshipped a water dragon, and we've seen a water dragon in Faron before... cough cough sksw cough) Anyway, they seem to be a very spiritual people ignoring all the synonyms of 'savage' Nintendo shoehorns into their descriptions.
One of the most popular theories about the Zonai are that they are connected/ evolved from the Twili. This is mostly derived from the fact that the MIRROR OF TWILIGHT (or a replica) sits broken into several pieces around Palmore Ruins, the fact that Typhlo exists surrounded by an eternal shadow, and the idea that they have a very similar black and teal aesthetic going on. In Zelda we've seen races evolve over time, Kokiri into Koroks, the Zora just in general, all the monsters. So it's not crazy to think that some Twili had to adapt to live in the light world, at least they found a bunch of trees in a rainforest that has frequently overcast weather to help them avoid the light.
The idea that they were 'warlike' really bothers me though, you can see fragments of the Zonai everywhere but especially with the Sheikah and the Koroks. Those little metal blocks that the Koroks use for puzzles? they have the Zonai crest on them. A bunch of Zonai ruins surrounds so many ancient shrines, their labyrinths are probably made to house some of these shrines. They have towers far outside what would've been considered their domain. They clearly got along with at least a few people.
In any case, they were heavily associated with being magical 'savages' who disappeared suddenly, with no one really knowing what had happened to them, or if they did, it has long been lost to time. Knowing how well religiously centered monarchies treat indigenous people, it's likely far grimmer than just ditching the light world you know? (I have a feeling that with their connection to the sheikah, they could've been made an example out of by the King, as they were more resistant to stopping their technological advancements, with their histories erased and villanized by the royal family, but there isn't really much evidence for this, just my own ideas until more info comes out, the 10k king does seem threatened by entire races of people who are advancing the world...)
Side note: It's also possible that the descendants of the Zonai moved to Lurelin, as their little swirly icon can be seen in the beach town, slightly augmented over time but still recognizable. Perhaps they kinda just merged with the Hylians nearby.
I'm sure we'll get more information about them once TotK comes out, it seems to be pulling from the Zonai aesthetic a little too much to not include more lore about them.
Here's the Zelda Wiki about them if you want it
Febuwhump Day 13 (Forced to Hurt a Loved One): You Meet Old Friends in the Oddest Places
ao3 link
Link was alone, confused, and soaking wet. He knew his uncle had wanted him to stay inside, but after hearing the princess call out to him in his dreams, he couldn’t just roll over and go back to sleep. He’d tried to tell himself that he just planned to catch up to his uncle, to tell him where Zelda was being held, but that illusion shattered when he snuck into Hyrule Castle through the sewers and found him lying against a wall, blood staining his shirt. Giving him the sword and shield that had hung gathering dust in the back of their house as far back as he could remember, his uncle asked him to rescue the princess before falling unconscious.
Link had crept nervously through the sewers, avoiding the soldiers that seemed to be patrolling it, a clear sign that something was wrong in the castle. Making his way up into the castle courtyard, he saw even more activity, the guards that usually stood to attention at the gates roaming around, as if they were worried someone would find a way to climb the castle walls. Ironically, their panic worked to his benefit, as he was able to slip past them and into the castle itself.
The castle was bustling with soldiers, a frantic energy to their movements as they patrolled the rooms. Link managed to avoid them, but he wondered just how bad things had become if they were that panicked, especially with the Princess missing. Finally finding the stairs down to the dungeons, Link sighed in relief. Once he found the Princess, he was sure they’d be able to calm down. As he stepped down from the last stair, he was faced with another soldier, this time someone he recognised.
Link wouldn’t exactly call himself a swordsman, his experience mostly consisting of trying to hit the occasional monster that made it up to his family house with his old wooden toy sword as hard as he possibly could, but he did have a bit of experience with a real sword before his uncle had pleaded for him to take his steel blade back in the sewers. He was too young to try and get work at the castle, his uncle encouraging an apprenticeship at the smithy instead, but one of the teenage boys from Kakariko, Dorman, had signed up to train as a soldier. They’d been friends, and the older boy had often met with Link in the grove of trees to the west of his house, lending him his sword and showing him the tricks he’d been learning at the castle.
Happy to see his friend, and hoping he would be able to help Link find the Princess, he stepped forward eagerly, only for Dorman to raise his sword, and strike out at Link. Barely dodging out of the way, Link stared in shock at his old friend, trying to figure out why he would attack him. He didn’t have much time to think before having to block another attack, the sword clinking harmlessly off his sword as he was pushed back by the force of the blow, unwilling to attack his friend.
He managed to get a good glimpse of Dorman’s face from under the thick purple-tinted metal of his helmet, the armour he’d been so overjoyed to have earned the last time they’d spoken. His eyes were off, blank and empty, with a strange cold shine glinting off them. Making a split-second decision, Link leaped forward, his shield held out with both hands, as smashed it over the helmeted head of his friend, leaving him to fall to the ground, dropping his weapons as he did so.
Moving quickly, Link searched the pouches attached to his belt, finding the key to the next room, and a crumpled map of the castle, familiar scribbled handwriting noting where certain rooms were and which ones he wasn’t allowed in. Heading to leave before the other managed to wake back up, Link could only hope to break whatever spell had been cast on his friend, on all the soldiers potentially, before he was left in a situation where he wouldn’t have a choice but to fight for his life.
Shadows in Castle Town
Rev’s Forgotten War AU!
Two old friends meet up for a night of aggressive negotiations.
Tumblr media
Castle town glowed dimly at night. Sconces mounted on the walls of the main squares, outside pubs and single candles in only a few houses marked the late time. The uneven rooftops sprung up in the sky like a jagged mountain range surrounded by high stone walls and towers, crowned by the enormous structure of the Castle at the north end of town.
A figure stood silently in the shadow of a chimney stack, glancing across the moonlit roofs. They were dressed in tightly fitted armour, embellished wth the eye symbol of the sheikah, face cowled and blonde hair wrapped in cloth. A small elegant harp was similarly wrapped and strung across their back, and the sides of their thighs were covered in sharp kunai. They appeared to be a young man, but there was only a very small group of people who knew the truth. Beneath the cowl was Princess Zelda of Hyrule.
Lips twitched into a smirk as her knees bent before launching her body in a soundless run towards the edge of the roof. The lean and powerful muscles of her form propelled her across the empty void of an alley, landing noiselessly before springing forward again across the next roof. She cut through the air, the long wrapped braid of her hair whipping behind her and she leapt again and again. Up a wall, skimming a balcony, across an archway. Breaths coming strong yet even as she floated like a phantom through the night.
She was heading towards the west side of town, towards the large warehouses and dark twisting alleys that flanked the small abandoned quarry. Keeping an eye out for figures roaming the dark streets, she came to a stop on the roof of a dilapidated storehouse as she felt a warmth blossom in her left hand. It was a familiar feeling, her shard of the Triforce was calling out to one of it’s missing pieces that it could sense nearby. It was a joyful feeling.
Zelda was surprised that Link was tracking her, especially tonight when the moon was nearly full. Since his return to Hyrule four months ago, he would disappear out into the wilderness around the time of the full moon returning three days later as it began to wane. She knew about what happened in Termina, a place that she could find no evidence for existing. She was too logical a thinker to truely believe it did in fact exist, she could only pretend she believed the story and try and help him cope in the aftermath. The worst part was, he knew her well enough to know this truth, but too kind to challenge her.
She closed her eyes and focussed her senses on her environment. She could feel the city around her, tiny waves of magic that lapped the border between her world and the magical plane. Little spots of warmth that floated around torches, the bouncing wave of music that seemed to vibrate in a pub nearby. The blossom of light that bloomed within a cat that roamed in the gutters of the street below. Then the strong rhythmic pounding of the Triforce of Courage.
Magic was alive and ever changing, the life-force of all things. The pieces of the Triforce all felt different. Power was painful, it scorched the air around it, suffocating and charging the air like lightning. But that was Power, pain and desire rolled into one. Simple to harness, but easy to be corrupted by. A siren’s song.
Wisdom by contrast was cool and calm. It was tranquil and not always easy to grasp. It took great concentration and restraint to focus on and manipulate. By nature she was headstrong and brash, in conflict with her chosen piece. But with time it was proving to be a calming force, slowing her down and clearing her head.
Courage felt like a thumping heartbeat, a punch of adrenaline to the system. You didn’t exactly harness it, it took control of you.  Ironically, it could not be wielded by the fearless, but only by those who were afraid but had the strength to move beyond it. The Triforce of Courage was unpredictable and dangerous. Especially now as it’s host was so plagued by demons and fear. Capable of triggering destructive power without intention. Pure defensive reaction.
Zelda opened her eyes and glanced in the directing of the thumping. Nestled amongst some scaffolding on an old watchtower was a hooded figure, slowly turning it’s head as it searched for her. Link had a strong natural connection to the magical plane, but she had been raised by the Sage of Shadow, taught to cloak her aura and appear almost invisible.
She stood up until her frame was bathed in moonlight and flared a pulse of magic from her Triforce, watching as his head snapped around immediately to look at her. She then made her way towards him, leaping silently once more across the roofs.
She landed next to him and he pulled down his tatty hood revealing a wooden mask with painted lines on the cheeks and forehead. She sat down in front of him, cross legged and close enough that their knees touched. It’s how they both functioned these days, so equally touch-starved that they always made the most of contact.
“Hey, out for a midnight stroll?” she quietly asked as she pulled the cloth mask down to revel her mouth.
He pulled his own mask up so it rested on top of his head revealing his face. He looked tired as he always did, dark bags shadowed his sky blue eyes and caused the jagged scars on his cheeks and forehead to stand out prominently. He smiled softly before his hands started to move in a hesitant yet precise manner.
‘Night face s-m-u-g-g-l-e-r-s?’ he silently asked in Sheikah Sign.
She smiled and repeated his question back to him both verbal and in Sign
“Tonight are you facing the smugglers?”
He nodded and repeated the question back at her with her corrections. He always was a fast learner.
“My sources tell me that they are meeting tonight in the old quarry storehouse” She lightly patted the full looking purse attached to her belt. “I’m going to try and beat their employer’s price.”
‘Need help?’
“If you would like to, I can also manage on my own.” She had been for the past two years, but Link joining her had certainly made things more efficient. However the last thing he needed was to be pulled into another battle. He’d recently come out of a war, the battle trauma suffocating him slowly. It had taken a lot from him, including his voice as well as his sense of peace. As much as she wished he’d retire somewhere and live out a calm, tranquil life, she knew he wouldn’t for the same reasons she couldn’t.
Just because the War ended on paper, didn’t mean it ended for them. She couldn’t put down her weapons any more than he could. They were both two heavily scarred by memory and paranoia for that. Besides, she couldn’t give him up either. Princesses don’t retire to the country with humble common boys. It was selfish of her she knew, but when had she not been when he was involved.
‘Who is … leader?’
“the Employer?”
He nodded in response.
“Lord Deacon Grent. He’s one of the key powerhouses on the Royal Council. He’s also trying to increase taxes on Necluda’s harvest while embezzling from the Treasury right under my Father’s nose.”
Link’s eyebrows shot up before he settled into an angry glare.
“I know, but first I need to find out what he is using the rupees for, then i will bring him to heel.”
‘Tell… then Prison?’
“My Father considers him one of his most loyal friends, he will never listen to any evidence i bring forward. I need to break Grent’s operation and blackmail him until he’s under my control.  More malleable heads on the Council will be a benefit.”
Link looked away from her, concern obvious on his face.
“I know you don’t agree with my methods, but until i’m Queen I have no way of dealing with these issues. There is little honour in Court politics.”
He looked her in the eyes and she tried to ignore the agonising need for his approval. He was a far kinder and better person than she was, she’d committed enough dark deeds as Ganondorf’s agent during the forgotten war to consider her good nature forever blemished. The only redemption she felt she had was to make life better for her people.
‘I trust you. Always do good, for common people.’
She didn’t believe that was true, but she was trying. She smiled sadly back at him as she stood up.
“All right let’s go then.”
He rose to his feet, sliding his mask back down and pulled his hood up.
‘How you want play it?’
She covered her own face back up and cracked her knuckles as she surveyed the surrounding buildings.
“Same as usual. Intimidate then negotiate.”
They both disappeared into the shadows.
Is2g zelink shippers are funnier than I give them credit for, especially with how they will literally go full-on (sometimes nuclear levels of) I Do Not See It on any kind of romantic hints between anyone who isn’t Zelda.
Like, I just saw a post between these two that is clearly meant to be romantic, but Link is wearing the Zora armour. Y’know, the thing Mipha made for him which basically acts as a wedding proposal that is explicitly mentioned ingame. Wish I had that level of ignorance sometimes LMAO.
