My King
Ganondorf x gn!Hylian!reader/no-name OC
I just wanted to write bein kissed by Ganon can I really be blamed tho? So the Hylian character is referred to by they/them pronouns and not described (except as being much shorter/smaller than beefcake man) and isn't referred to by a name so feel free to read is as a reader insert or as an oc insert
Also I wrote this with BOTW/TOTK Ganon in mind, but it could probably be read as any version of him
Edit: fixed some spelling errors
Warnings: makin out, brief allusion to sex, possessiveness, size-difference
Word Count: 457
Masterlist
AO3
Their lips touched for a brief moment, merely ghosting over each other. Ganon pulled away, golden eyes shadowed in the night as he studied their expression. His hand cupped their cheek, dwarfing their head. They were so small compared to him. So fragile.
A quiet, shuddering breath slipped past their lips like something inside was letting them go. He couldn't fight the grin that pulled his lips as they leaned forward ever so slightly, chasing his lips, and the brief flicker of disappointment when they came up empty. Their eyelids fluttered open, staring up at him with stars reflecting back at him. They were confused and worried - wondering if they did something wrong. They were Hylian; unaccustomed to all of the Gerudo's beliefs and social intricacies. Had they broken some law about kissing the King, even if he was the one who asked in as soft a voice he'd ever used if he could please, please kiss them. It would be the only time he begged, he'd make sure of it. And yet, for that brief brush, that whisper of a kiss, he found suddenly that he would not mind dropping to his knees and pleading for just one more.
He stroked the pad of his thumb across their cheek. They relaxed into the touch, eyes closing as they leaned into his large palm. Worry was replaced with ease, quickly. They didn't do something wrong. He simply could not stop himself from admiring how the desert moonlight danced across their skin. If he didn't know better, he would have confused them for a deity.
Golden eyes glanced at their mouth, still parted, waiting for his to find their place. Soft puffs of white air dissipated between them, carried into the night. It was freezing out here. His oversized robe draped loosely around their shoulders, half of the heavy fabric pooling on the sandstone floor around their feet.
A flicker of possessiveness lit up within him. He was the only one allowed to care for them so; the only one allowed to dress them in his belongings and show all of Hyrule who he wished to be his.
"Say you will be mine," he whispered. Dark eyes, almost red with desire, greeted them as they opened their eyes to look up at the Gerudo King.
A small, soft hand, un-calloused from the desert sands, pressed against his, holding his hand more firmly to their cheek. "I'm yours, my King."
His lips find theirs once more, but this time it is not the careful, hesitant touch from before. Now it was burning, demanding, rough. He pulled their face in as close as he could, lips and teeth sucking and biting and pulling until their lips are red and swollen against his. Every soft, desperate mewl from their throat eggs him on. He wants nothing more than all of Hyrule to know who they belong to, and he will not stop until he is certain everyone knows his name screamed in their voice.

This is a entry for @miphlinkweek event Miphlink week 2023 day 6: Growing up together. This is a series of flashbacks to Link and Mipha childhood to their meeting at Vah Ruta. Kid Link’s clothes is a reference to the Hero of the Wild set, which is references to his pre-Ocarina of Time games clothes and that classic game Young Link’s tunic.
When Mipha was young, she witness a group of Hylian knights visiting Zora’s Domain to talk about the increase in protecting the region due to some kind of prophecy, but was not allowed in the court yet, so she decide to listen in behind a pillar. Spying on the meeting, Mipha noticed a Hylian boy among the knights, wearing a green tunic, shorts, and a green cap. The boy has short blond hair and blue eyes, which look at her father with wonder as the king of the Zoras can be bigger than even his fellow Zoras. The boy then noticed Mipha hiding behind the pillar and she quickly run off before he could alert anyone of her present. The boy said to the head of the knight, “Dad, I’m going to go explore.” The head knight reply, “Alright Link, just don’t get lost.” and Link nod, and head off to follow that Zora.
Once she managed to get far, Mipha take a moment to breathe, and she start to wonder what is going on just as a young voice call out, “Hey!” and Mipha turn around to see that it is the same boy from earlier and he didn’t seem troubled about meeting her. Trying to act normal, Mipha greet the boy, “Hello there, little one.” and the boy said, “I saw you earlier. Why were you playing hide and seek?” Mipha sigh and said, “Actually, I was not allow in the meeting, so I run off when you spot me.” Mipha did ask the boy, “Did you tell anyone?” The boy shake his head, “No. My dad don’t often talk to me, so I sneak off to find you.” Glad that the boy didn’t tell anyone about her, Mipha said to him, “Thank you. You are a kind spirt.” The boy smile and said, “Thanks. I get that a lot from my mom.” He then hold out his hand and said, “I’m Link by the way! What is your name?” Mipha reply as she shake the boy’s hand, “My name is Princess Mipha.”
Mipha’s claws actually cut Link’s hand and she apologized, “I’m so sorry about that.” Taking the boy’s hand, Mipha use her powers to heal it, amazed the boy and he ask, “Whoa, can all Zoras do that?” Mipha reply, “Actually, the power to heal others is a rare ability for Zoras, even among my own family.”
Every year, Link would visit Zora’s Domain with his father, and he and Mipha would play with other Zora children. However, his reckless would get him hurt and Mipha would always heal him. Mipha wish that Link can be best friends with her little brother Sidon, as well encourage him to be brave. One day, the Zora royal family were informed that Link and his father couldn’t be visiting for some time due to Link training as a knight, and Mipha has start to worry how does it come to be.
Years passed back, and Hyrule is preparing for the threat of Calamity Ganon by unearthing the Guardians and the Divine Beast Vah Ruta. When Princess Zelda and her bodyguard, the Knight with the Sword that seal the darkness, visit Zora’s Domain, Mipha is allow in the meeting due to being older and her role as princess, and it was quite a surprise for Mipha that Zelda’s bodyguard is Link, except he has grown much taller. Link was not wearing his green tunic, but knight armor and there is a unique sword on his back. Mipha start to noticed that Link has become handsome for a Hylian, as well he doesn’t seem to show any emotions.
Once she and Link got a moment to themselves, Mipha said to him, “Well, Link. You’re grown since I last saw you.” Link only nod and he still keep his cold look. While wondering why Link didn’t make it clear he is glad to see her again, Mipha said, “And yet.... You have not changed.” When he didn’t reply, Mipha start to worry and ask Link, “Are you alright, Link? How are you?” Link didn’t speak, as if he is scare of speaking.
Within days, Mipha has become one of the champions that will help Link and the Princess of Hyrule battle the coming threat of Calamity Ganon, and she is chose to be the pilot of Divine Beast Vah Ruta. She is envy of the princess for taking her time with Link while being rude to him.

god after this im so tempted to make a totk fic where link is in like. a Termina Hell. because it Looks like his hyrule but its not- things thatre supposed to be there (the icy texture is gone around the hebra divine beast hole, the divine beasts and shrines and the shrine of resurrection ((that would mess him up So bad)) animals and fruits like durians and rhinos) arent and things that werent there (mabe lake(?), the bottomless pond which was the bottomless swamp but geographical features changed which ive noted in an unposted theory of sorts, ocotorock lake, lily pads???, caves that have clearly been part of the world before but are never in botw and if they were opened up by ganon then why are there ruins in there like how did they close up) are there. his house isnt his house anymore. npcs arent who they used to be At All??? its like the sheikah never existed?? and nobody mentions it (not even Robbie which, he made tech for you!!!! wheres cherry???????) and like. sure mipha is mentioned and she has a court (though her statue has been replaced in central zoras domain and like. look how the zoras viewed her after death is complicated and matyring her while also literally forgetting who she actually was but instead focusing on her image and what she represented wasnt the greatest thing. theres probably a better representation of her than that statue. but them replacing it??? and moving it so far away???????????? like. i was so mad before because i thought they just got rid of mipha entirely. like if the statue was replaced with something Other than link and sidon or just. something related to mipha!!! then it wouldnt have been that bad. ok sorry. but anyways and shes mentioned in sidons holdup (not wanting others to die, which is fair), but otherwise thats it. truthfully it isnt that bad (its still Bad dont get me wrong. but at least shes mentioned </3) however paired with the other champions treatment (little to no mention) and also there being no evidence of the shekiah tech and the divine beasts (except for a reference to vah medoh), its just. its almost like they werent important when they Were. i know moving on is like. important. however that doesnt just mean you forget someone entirely. both in like repeating history terms but also in grieving and how instead of grief growing smaller the world grows bigger in that one diagram. theres still offerings to the dead and such across cultures its. ofuejdjndndndnd biting the bars of my cage. sorry anyways!!
its just. it would be so jarring. termina clearly isnt hyrule and link knows it. id argue it actually helps link to a certain degree, maybe helping others helps him help himself + skull kid and tatl and tael and him understanding each other snd that jazz. but if this (totk) was termina it would only ruin link as a person/his mental state. from the above and also just. no one mentioning anything. not zelda knowing ganon and ganon not mentioning being like. half sealed. its like a divine prank on him (hey tp). how long would it take him to realize that this Isnt his hyrule- that that zelda isnt the one he knows, nor the champions and him seemingly (besides sidon) being the only to remember them, or that the people he met back in his hyrule arent the same ones here, or that even the divine beasts, things he probably didnt like before, he now misses because theyre just gone. funhouse mirror world. how does he get out, or is he just going insane? maybe if he could just find them- find the beasts, the shrines (theres depths holes where some used to be- they have to be out there. they have to be. please), find whatever evidence left by the champions, the sheikah, just maybe they can remember! or maybe hes trapped here, eternally tortured because of something he doesnt even know about. maybe he did this to himself. please let him out

Speaking of Ocarina and Tears of the Kingdom, I’ve noticed while playing TotK just how many references to Ocarina is in this game and its predecessor
Like Ocarina of Time is the only “big” Zelda game I had played prior to Breath of the Wild, none of the other big three since I was a handheld kid (I did also play Link Between Worlds but I don’t think that one’s considered on the same level as the others), and there are so many references that I get because of that
Like the Divine Beasts being named after the Ocarina of Time characters, with the exception of Medoh because the Rito didn’t exist yet. Possibly also how the Deku Tree is cursed or sick and you go inside him to fight evil Ganon minions, which I think is a reference to the first dungeon of Ocarina
I’m forgetting others but I know I’ve seen multiple
I assume it’s because Ocarina was considered like, the best and most popular game in the series before Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom came out
Granted it could just be that the games reference a lot of the past games equally and I only pick up on the Ocarina ones because that’s the one I played, and also it’s not like the games reference OoT constantly, I haven’t seen a single ocarina or that many references to the Golden Goddesses outside of the three dragons, but who knows, it’s just something I noticed

Consequences of unthinking actions
Revalink prompt, Was it something I did? / Akkala - general rating
-----------------------
This one once again ended up longer than intended, oops. It also ended up being similar to There they are those feelings again/ Those feelings brought to firelight. Except this one ends up happy. The ao3 tags will have more intel. I also didn't read this over so please excuse errors. Epie is pronounced E - P and is a reference to my nickname for Epona.
Link frowned, this trip had been going well until it suddenly wasn’t. Actually, the trip itself was still pretty okay what was going wrong is that all of a sudden Revali had taken off back to the stable that they had stayed the  night in previously.
A few weeks after Link had defeated Ganon and the Champions had mysteriously but wonderfully resurrected Zelda expressed interest in traveling to see the Akkala Citadel ruins. Link didn’t know why but had suggested that they invite Revali because the last time he was in the area there were Guardian Skywatches and having someone who could match their height in the sky felt like a good idea.
Revali had been content enough to join. Link had thought he even seemed pleased to be invited. Their relationship was… weird to say the least. Previously Link was under the impression that Revali hated him or at least only tolerated him, after his resurrection though he had been much nicer to Link and Hylian had the growing suspicion that he was missing a few key memories that would explain the change in attitude. He had asked once if Revali could explain their relationship before the Calamity but the Rito had only dodged the question and claimed that he had somewhere else to be. If Link didn’t know any better he would have thought that Revali was embarrassed.
Revali had certainly seemed embarrassed as he left Link and Zelda at the ruins but Link couldn’t figure out why. He had dispatched the Skywatchers with perhaps far more flair than necessary and then continued to scout the area above Link and Zelda until Zelda had paused to examine something and he dropped down to chat with Link to pass the time.
There hadn’t actually been a conversation at all and Link was starting to wonder if it was because of the feather he currently had tucked in his hair. He hadn’t thought anything of it when he bent down to retrieve it as Revali landed just that it was pretty and he wanted to put it in his hair. Revali had stared at him for a long moment, his feathers fluffing up before he had launched back into the sky, calling how “the area was clear now, surely they would be fine.”
-----------------------
Link was still trying to figure out what had happened as he and Zelda returned to the stable. Revali however wasn’t there for him to ask, and after he was still missing by the time he and Zelda had eaten dinner Link was starting to get worried that he had just gone home entirely.
“Where do you think he is?” Link signed as Zelda fed their horses.
“I’m not sure, maybe nearby? Are you worried about him?” Zelda fixed him with a look that seemed to carry more than he could understand.
“I mean not necessarily he certainly can take of himself but…”
“But?”
“Was it something I did? That made him leave?”
Zelda seemed to think for a moment as she brushed out her horse's mane. “I’m not sure that I should be one to tell you anything.”
“What is that supposed to mean?” Link asked, “what do you know?”
“I’m sorry, you should ask him.”
Link only sighed in response. So he had done something, the question now was what?
“I’ll be back later then,” Link signed and promptly started walking.
“You don’t want Epie?” Zelda called after him.
Link turned walking backward and smiled at his horse who seemed pleased to have Zelda petting her. “It’s okay! Let her rest.”
-----------------------
As it turned out Link definitely didn’t need Epie because he wasn’t walking for long before he spotted a dark streak in the sky just above Kanalet Ridge. He clambered up whistling to get Revali’s attention. After a moment he joined Link taking one look at him before turning away again.
“Yes? Is there something you needed?”
Link thought about what Zelda had said as he raised his hands. “What did I do?”
“What?” Revali asked, his beak falling open.
“You left us at the ruins so suddenly, obviously I did something.”
Revali only stared at Link, he should have known. Maybe he had known all along that Link really didn’t have a clue but for the briefest of moments he had let himself hope that Link understood what he was doing with the feather.
"You didn't do anything, it's fine," Revali shook his head.
Link frowned, "then why did you leave so suddenly?"
"I was tired," it was a flimsy lie at best but Link would have to believe him.
Link sighed and pulled out his Sheikah slate pausing the conversation to set up a fire to ward off the chill the night was bringing. "I am missing some sort of context Zelda confirmed as much but I'm sorry that I don't remember enough to figure out where I messed up." He signed after sitting down next to the fire. "Will you please tell me?"
-----------------------
Revali's heart dropped to his stomach, he hadn't meant to make Link feel as though he had done something wrong. He had just been so caught off guard by Link placing the feather in his hair and thinking nothing of it that he had taken off before even realizing that he had. Now Link was looking at him with a look that was making his heart break all over again. Revali sighed and sat down next to Link.
"You don't remember very much about me do you?" He asked.
Link shook his head, "I don't remember much about anyone unfortunately Zelda is the only one really."
"Mm I thought so but it's good to have that confirmed."
"I'm sorry."
"It's hardly your fault why are you apologizing?" Revali asked, making Link shrug.
"Habit I guess."
"Well anyways, I would presume to think that since you don't remember about me you also don't remember the Rito customs that you learned?"
Link shook his head again, confusion starting to show on his face. "Where are you going with this?"
"I am getting there, this is… not exactly easy to phrase." It was actually incredibly easy to say if Revali could just get his heart to calm down. It felt as though this was the first time they were having this conversation all over again. Revali had been so nervous then about asking Link if they could talk privately and then even more nervous about what to say when they were alone. He supposed though that for all intents and purposes this was the first time again given Link didn't remember the original.
"I hadn't wanted to make you aware of this originally because with all the time that passed and your memory gone it felt null and void. I felt as though if I told you and you didn't remember you would insist on trying to find a way to fix it and that by telling you I was acting selfishly because I wanted a certain outcome. Of course, there is the chance that I tell you and you do remember and that would be the best outcome. But I could also tell you, you remember and then decide that you would rather things be different, and that perhaps would be the worst outcome for me personally. So I decided I wouldn't say anything and just wait and hope that you remembered on your own. When you picked up my feather for your hair I had that maybe you had but I was mistaken."
-----------------------
"Okay okay," Link signed the confused look now prominent. "So there's something you know, that you want me to remember on my own and it has to do with me putting your feather in my hair?"
"Yes."
Link thought through the memories he had of Revali looking for any sort of clue as to what the Rito could possibly mean. When that proved fruitless he moved on to think about Rito Village and anything he might have learned about Rito customs there. There wasn't much really, he hadn't exactly had the time to just have a leisurely chat whenever he wanted. He had learned a bit about music from Kass and his kids, Teba had mentioned something briefly about how they choose leaders, something about Teba nagged at Link's mind. He's a Rito warrior, he had helped Link with Vah Medoh, he wears braids in his hair much like Revali does- No he wears braids in his hair but he has two different colored feathers also braided in. One a lilac pink from Saki and another a dark grey from Harth both of which Link later found out were his husband and wife.
Oh.
"We were courting," Link signs slowly. He's hesitant because he might be wrong but given the sad smile that graces Revali's face, he doesn't think he is.
"Do you remember or did you use deductive reasoning?" Revali asks.
"Teba has his wife and husband's feathers in his braids."
"So that'd be a no on remembering."
"I'm sorry."
"Stop apologizing, I made my peace with the fact that while I may be alive again there was the chance that it wouldn't be the same between us."
"Have you really?" Link asks because Revali looks so heartbroken that Link couldn't possibly think that was true.
"No, not at all. However, I am certainly not going to make you re-enter a relationship with me just because we had one a hundred years ago." Revali waves what Link thinks is supposed to be a dismissive wing. "Don't dwell on it, Link."
"Well, what if I want to?"
"Dwell on it? or-" Revali's sentence peters off as Link waves a hand to silence him.
"I'm… not exactly sure I feel about you the same way now as I did then but that doesn't mean that it couldn't turn out like that again."
"Is this meant to be your way of asking me to court you again?"
"I think so, I don't dislike you Revali. In fact, I am rather fond of you even if what memories I do have make me feel inclined that I shouldn't be. You are a very interesting Rito and have proven yourself kind in your time being back. I find your sharp tongue rather endearing actually because despite whatever you say you rarely ever actually mean to be so rude to others. And you care deeply about others even if you try to hide it." Link watched as Revali's feathers bristled and thinks that he really didn't have a way to ensure that he was correct in what he was saying but it all felt true.
"You aren't simply doing this because of some twisted feeling that you have to be the hero here and grant my wishes right?" Revali asks in a quiet voice and the way he's looking at Link is hopeful but tinged with worry.
"No, I think my hero days are over for now. Now I just want… to live, I guess. Without worrying about a timer on a fate I couldn't escape. I think I'll travel, there are plenty of places that I didn't get a chance to see. Would you like to come with me?"
Revali seems like he is near tears though none actually fall. "If you'll have me."
"Will you braid the feather in properly?" Link asks, pulling it out and turning to sit with his back to Revali.
It's a moment before he actually feels the Rito start to undo his hair and carefully detangle it. As Revali works Link realizes that he had definitely done this before with the ease he goes about tidying Link's hair and as Link passes him the feather he thinks that he would like for Revali to do it again when these braids start to fray.
Yes, Link thinks he could be very content with having Revali style his hair as he joined him traveling.

Okay this ended up being a little bit of a rant, I apologize
Most of the rewrite that my best friend and I are working on is just character devlopment tbh!! Like I think what totk tried to do was make their story both character driven and plot driven, they just failed miserably at both. Like imagine if Zelda and Mineru were parallels!! We have an entire plotline written involving making Rauru a secondary antagonist with that! And if Zelda and Sonia were foils instead of half assed parallels! Like yes, Zelda's a terrible character as is, but she has SO much potential because of her position, both politically speaking and emotionally speaking. It's like you said, it's really stupid that she's just in charge of all of Hyrule again. Why not like. Do something else with her?? Anything else??? And did we just. Forget about her father's abuse in botw? Because she shows exactly NOTHING as a result of that. This is an entirely different Zelda who happens to look the same. For all we care, the real Zelda in game could be the imposter and it wouldn't change a thing!!
Oh yeah, the characters in the game definitely needed more attention from the writing. Or like... literally any amount of attention.
For the record this might just be a case of me doing some sequence breaking and getting through things too early (via setting off the fifth sage plot AFTER finding all the memories and retrieving the master sword), but I truly, genuinely do not understand why Mineru exists. I can't tell what she adds to the narrative. Maybe she was supposed to tell me that Zelda's a dragon go rip a sword out of her head, just in case I hadn't figured that out? But it's kinda weird to have that failsafe, considering that the game is quick to spell it out for you that you should find the geoglyphs to learn what happened to Zelda, and we KNOW she was the last one to have the Master Sword. So Mineru is just a redundant reminder of something the player's probably already done, because yknow going to hyrule castle after four temples feels like a finale, so you'd obviously want to handle unfinished business first.
I mean, I guess the spirit temple boss fight was okay, if only because I found the robot fistfight to be so ridiculous that it was absolutely delightful (though the actual fight mechanics were tedious and annoying). But she didn't tell me anything new, I already knew that Zelda had vored a rock to become her fursona. Sharing that information was apparently the only thing Mineru was there to do, but the game had already spelled that out for me ages ago. She didn't contribute anything. I don't even know if she was supposed to contribute anything. Mineru was just there to force us to sit through the same fucking story about Ganon's sealing for the fifth goddamn time in a row. And then despite being literally the only person left from the actual war, she had literally nothing to contribute. WHY WAS MINERU IN THIS GAME. HOW DID SHE CONTRIBUTE TO THE NARRATIVE. I started jokingly referring to her as Mineral after I got started on the fifth sage plotline, because I knew from the dragon memories she was supposed to be haunting the Purah Pad, but she'd spent the entire game being about as important as a random rock. And apparently I was right, Mineru did literally nothing the whole time!
...Actually now that I think about it, what the fuck did ANY of the modern sages do? Their abilities were just the old powers except worse (give me revali's gale over tulin's thing any day of the week, jesus christ), except for Yunobo's ability which was just to replace remote bombs as a convenient infinite mining tool. The sages apparently were just there to show up at the end as a Big Damn Hero moment to rescue Link from the absolute terror of... red bokoblins. Seriously, WHY did they do all the 'ooooh ganons summoning an aaarmy' scenes using mainly the lowest tier of enemies??? Sir, I'm armed to the teeth, fully armoured, and loaded up on hearts and stamina, why the fuck am I supposed to be intimidated by enemies that were still cannon fodder when I was stark naked and armed with a tree branch. At least the four sages were characters we already knew from BOTW, and they got to do some stuff (though using Tulin instead of Teba was complete bullshit, I DO NOT WANT TO TAKE THIS RANDOM TEN YEAR OLD INTO A WAR ZONE. I FOUGHT A GIANT MECHA BIRD WITH TEBA, LET ME KICK ASS WITH BIRB DAD AGAIN)
Eugh. Just so much bad writing in this game, it's a constantly unfolding minefield of horrible decision making. Good luck with your fic though, and I hope you and your friend end up posting it! I've been finding pretty slim pickings on AO3 so far tbh; it seems everyone like me that's been trying to pick this story apart for good content is still trying to figure out what the fuck nintendo just handed us, so the AO3 has been mostly just people writing awful generic Link/Zelda content, mixed with the Link/Sidon shippers trying to fix the whole clusterfuck of Sidon getting a wife out of nowhere. Though I will say I have been very pleased with the fandom unanimously responding to that whole subplot with "Okay so this is some hetero nonsense because nintendo wanted to sink SidLink, BUT we love and respect Yona anyways". I guarantee if something like this had gone down like a decade ago, Yona would be the single most hated character in the game for it. I'm glad that she's being given love and respect despite having been made to be a shipbreaker!
Anyways my point is, I am a huge slut for character studies and worldbuilding, and dear lord have I ever been starved for content. There's so much ZeLink. All power to y'all that ship it of course, I'm glad you're happy, but their dynamic is the single most boring pile of dogshit I've ever seen in my life, and I'm way too aromantic to put up with it. My kingdom for some good character studies and/or platonic fics. Or even just interesting shipping fics that aren't focused on some shitty generic romance. There's a reason I love GanLink and it's not (just) for the porn, it's because those two literally always have some spectacular issues if they're together, regardless of the context. They're a walking psychological thriller, I love them.

idk anything about loz but do you wanna explain how hyrule is old as balls
Tumblr media
i would LOVE to explain why hyrule is old as balls!!! this applies to both hyrule as a kingdom and the land itself
ok so. first of all. all the mainline games technically fit into a timeline. now the timeline was made AFTER most of the games came out and its clearly not nintendo's no.1 priority when they make their games (it's not mine normally either. personally my preferred interpretation is that all the games are just different versions of the same hyrulean folktale? but the timeline is fun to consider) but nevertheless it IS canonical and amazingly they don't seem to really overtly contradict each other?? I haven't played a lot of the games so I don't know for sure but it works
anyway this is the timeline
Tumblr media
orignally published in 2011 in the hyrule historia, this is a version where someone added breath of the wild, as nintendo stated it comes at the end of the timeline. now you may notice 3 splits. that's not really super important here but botw supposedly comes at the end of all of them equally. unlikely for the one on the far right, but again, unimportant rn)
first thing to establish before we really start getting into it, with the exception of a few games with direct sequels, all of these games have new incarnations of zelda, link, and ganon. (with the exception of twilight princess, the second game in the middle line, which includes the same ganon from the previous game) I haven't played every zelda game, but the ones that I have played present you with the story of the cycle as though it is far enough back that its a mixture of history and legend. everyone who would remember the last events is dead by the time there's a new cycle. so there's at minimum, probably 150-200 years between each new cycle, keep that in mind
now, I'm starting at breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom because I wanna work my way backwards. so, in breath of the wild, it's already been 100 years since the last time anything significant happened. we're already working on a timespan of 100 years. what happened 100 years prior is that link, zelda, and 4 champions were prepping for the next time ganon rose, and then he did but he got them off guard and they weren't ready and most of them died and link had to be put asleep for 100 years to get healed while zelda kept ganon from completely destroying the world in the meantime.
NOW before THAT, the hyrule of botw's LAST cycle was 10k years ago. that is a LONG fucking time already, it's so old that this hyrule is incredibly divorced from its history, the more significant lore of the triforce is little more than a symbolic royal family crest, and it isn't directly referenced at all. all that this hyrule knows is that 10k years ago was the last time ganon rose, and hero and princess defeated him, so they know that they're gonna have to prep for it again, I also can't actually remember but I think? this may also be the first generation in a while that knows of the legend at all, hence why they're the first to prep for it. so anyway, already, at the end of the timeline, hyrule as a civilization is at a minimum 10k years old, for reference, in OUR world, 10k years ago humans were still living in caves. earth was just coming out of the ice age.
now, the latest game, tears of the kingdom actually shows us this 10k years ago, it's shown to us as the early days of the kingdom with its first king and queen. BUT it's still at the end of the timeline. how do I know this? and not that it's possibly at the start? 1. that contradicts a fair amount of previously established lore lol. in tears of the kingdom you get show this dessicated ganon mummy that's been lving under the castle from 10k years ago. if that was the beginning of hyrule entirely then it means for the entirety of the timeline there's been 2 ganons in existence. which is kind of. um. not how it works. ("but what about the ganon they fight in botw?" you may ask. I get the impression that wasn't a real ganon but just a manifestation of mummy ganon's power as he attempts to break free so its not like. a new ganon incarnation)
so anyway, it doesn't work super well if 10k years ago hyrule is actually the first hyrule, and already in the lore the kingdom of hyrule has risen and fallen countless times, it's gone through lots of wars. so I'm thinking the most likely explanation is that hyrule from any previous games fell, all memory of it died out, and then a new hyrule eventually rose in its place, hence why the king and queen self identify as the first king and queen of hyrule. so, AGAIN, the hyrule at THE END OF THE TIMELINE. is already like. hundreds or thousands of years removed from all the previous cycles.
now we're gonna work our way back to the beginning. so, there's 3 different timelines shown on the picture, but only one of them, the middle one, can actually be canonically achieved in the game they split from, ocarina of time, so we're going up the middle line. it's also the shortest span of time, so we're counting hyrule's years at a most generous minimum here.
so, there's an unknown amount of time between 10k years ago tears of the kingdom hyrule, and the last game on the middle line, four swords adventures. got no idea how much time is there but it's probably a lot, bc, again, civilization falling and rising again.
moving on, now when looking into this more, while again, I'm very rarely given explicit and specific time frames, there's generally supposed to be a few hundred years between four swords adventures and the previous game, twilight princess.
now, at twilight princess. as previously stated, that is the same ganon (this is also the first ganon to appear, all games chronologically prior to ocarina of time feature other villains) as the game before it, ocarina of time. (majora's mask, the game actually listed right before it on the timeline, is a direct sequel to ocarina of time and doesn't have significant bearing on this count) the lore of ocarina of time involves a lot of time travel, and in this center timeline, and the achievable canonical ending of the game, link defeats ganon and then goes back in time to warn the hyrule leaders, and ganon is stopped before he can ever get started. he's set to be executed, but evidently they don't succeed, because he's back at it again in twilight princess (I haven't played either of those games so I don't know the specifics) I don't know how long ganon's life expectancy is (clearly a lot though. he still looks like a middle aged man), but twilight princess has a new link and zelda, so assuming ocarina of time link lived a long and healthy life, it's probably been almost a century at minimum. this is also likely the closest gap between games.
now, from ocarina of time to the game before it. there is a vague "countless eras long" hyrulean civil war. so that's another couple hundred years between oot and four swords (different from four swords adventures)
now from four swords to the game prior, minish cap, is another vague and indeterminate amount of time, but it's for sure a new zelda and link, so that's probably over a hundred years again.
AGAIN with the unknown amount of time, we go back from minish cap to skyward sword. skyward sword is the first in the timeline, featuring the first link, the first zelda, and the earliest form of ganon, an evil god called demise who curses link and zelda to forever be reincarnated and to keep having to deal with his ass. now, skyward sword takes place in, the sky!!
the lore of this game is that, an unknown amount of time, long ago, demise cracked open the earth (already full of prospering people btw. no mention of a kingdom though. but keep that in mind. these weren't hyrulean cavemen these were societies) and monsters poured out, he was looking for the triforce, which was passed down from the golden goddesses (hyrule's creation gods) and protected by hylia, another goddess of the land, the triforce is capable of granting any wish to the person who has it. hylia took the triforce and sent it skyward on a piece of land (to be called skyloft) with the remaining surviving humans (hylians. despite the fact hylians are categorically an elven race, they are referred to interchangeably with the term human in the zelda games) hylia then took up forces with the remaining land dwellers (bc there are other races and they just got stuck on earth. fuck those guys ig) and they fought a vicious war that finally resulted in hylia sealing demise away. peace was restored to the surface, but the humans were left up in skyloft because she knew the seal wouldn't hold forever. hylia knew she wouldn't be able to defeat demise again without the help of the triforce, but a goddess can't use the triforce, so she gave up on immortality and was eventually reincarnated as a hylian. the first zelda. the first zelda is literally a direct reincarnation of a goddess. all future zeldas share her bloodline. (funny thing about this is you're never introduced to a hyrulean queen, there's only ever princess zelda and her father, despite the fact their divine right of kings follows a matrilineal line)
an unknown amount of time after the imprisoning war, we're at present day skyloft. they have little memory of the surface and the imprisoning war. og zelda ends up getting thrown down to the surface, where she discovers that she's a goddess incarnation and what her duty is. she's going to purify herself at springs and shit, while link follows trying to find her. there's a bunch of shit that happens while link follows her, eventually there's some time travel where he follows her back to when the goddess had first sealed away demise, zelda tells him she's a reincarnation, hylia intended for the triforce to be used by a chosen hero with an unbreakable spirit (link!!), she ends up getting sealed into a crystal so she can be awoken in her own time, the works. he goes back, does some other shit, part of skyloft breaks off and comes crashing down, and link and zelda decide to stay on the surface. hyrule as a kingdom is founded sometime between this game and the next.
so. to recap. the end of the timeline is already over 10k years removed from the last cycle. and then there's a couple hundred to a thousand years from THAT to ocarina of time, where the timeline splits. THEN there's another couple hundred to a thousand years from ocarina of time to skyward sword, the beginning of the cycle. and at the time of skyward sword, which is the prologue to the FOUNDING OF HYRULE. the land is already a few hundred years old ABSOLUTE MINIMUM. and had thriving and complex societies with technology BEFORE humans ever even got sent into the sky. all this together I'm estimating around 15k years of thriving society. at 15k years ago our earth had just started warming after about 100k years of ice age. and they already had technology. hyrule is an OLD ASS kingdom and all the intelligent civilizations on its land are even older. what the fuck

⚠️SPOILERS FOR ZELDA OCARINA OF TIME FOR ANYONE PLAYING IT FOR THE FIRST TIME⚠️
Finally beat Ocarina of Time for the first time. (Played on NSO btw) Here’s my thoughts and personal rating:
The game in terms of story is obviously an artistic masterpiece. If you didn’t know that then watch this video: https://youtu.be/GyUcwsjyd8Q?si=nd7AdwU0nIom6UvN
I can’t say more than what’s already been said in that regard except that the only way to enhance your understanding of the story after this video is to play the game. Truly the most tragic Zelda game (imo).
The game is old. It feels old. The camera is ROUGH, the slow dialogue boxes when the only other option is skipping straight to the end are unfortunate, the z-lock combat is occasionally jank (especially when switching between enemies is occasionally prioritized over turning it off), and there’s a sense I have that some of what our “legacy” gamers call “old-school difficulty” is just annoying, unfun bs. Nothing that bad, just mildly frustrating choices, like constantly having to switch boots in the Water Temple. Another example would be in Ganon’s Castle, where, if you’re like me and didn’t get the fire arrows because you’re a silly goose, you literally can’t progress. I never used fire arrows except for two or three rooms in that castle, but the rest of the whole game I managed to avoid them. Especially the Spirit room (I think) though, where you need to shoot a fire arrow into the ceiling. Why? What was the reason? Was it a reference to how you get the fire arrows? Did anyone actually get that without a guide or without trial and error? It’s hard for me to imagine so, and I call bs. But it hardly detracts from the rest of the game.
Obviously the music is fucking iconic. Lost Woods, the Ocarina songs, Sheik’s theme—omfg they popped tf off. Modern recordings in orchestral settings bring out the musicality more imo but that is just a testament to how great the original music is imo.
99% of the dungeon design is undefeated. The puzzles are satisfying, thought-provoking, and creative. Almost every time I needed to google something it turned out that I had just forgotten an option I had or otherwise could’ve come up with the solution myself if I’d thought about it a bit longer. With occasional bs exception, the gameplay in this game is sincerely masterful. I love this game istg
The graphics have that old-school charm and are consistently comprehensible and atmospheric. I never felt confused at what I was looking at in a way that was anything except the camera’s fault. The animations are honestly surprisingly solid for such an old game. Generally, the visual storytelling, style, and aesthetic are just 🤌 I love them
I want to note the final boss fight against Ganon. Dear GOD that fight is INCREDIBLE. The MUSIC. The SETTING. The SOUNDS. The VISUALS. The SCREAM Zelda lets out every time you get hit. There is not a single fight in gaming I’ve had that feels like that fight. The sense of dread Ganon releases just by LOOKING the way it does, the way the SHADOWS cover it’s fucking FACE OH MY GOD. It feels so final. It feels so dramatic. It feels so intense. It feels so animalistically terrifying. I. ADORE. This. Fight.
Overall, my personal rating for OoT is a 23/20. I love the soundtrack, I love the story, and I so, so, SO appreciate what this game did for gaming in years past. The only thing about it is that I just didn’t like the jank. And there is jank. Because it is old. Which made my enjoyment less than it could’ve been. I am desperately praying and hoping for a version of this game made with the game design lessons we learned since the game released. If this game was remade, it would have the potential, to be on par with Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, in my book. This has been an advertisement for GoodBlood’s Ocarina of Time video.

All the Trashy Novels Part 30
This was fun, y’all.  Thanks for humoring me!
Part 1...Part 29
***
She spent four days mostly standing in front of the Goddess statue, trying to glow without requiring something inappropriate to trigger it.  She could now get it every single time with very minimal effort, but that effort was usually Link coming up behind her and placing a kiss where her neck met her shoulder, or trailing his fingers from the inside of her elbow to her wrist.  And suddenly her skin was lit up like a camp fire, a fuzzy pleasure brushing over her like a thin blanket.  It was embarrassing and frustrating, but at least she could trigger it without an orgasm and could hold her luminous state for long stretches once she got it going.
"That's true," Link agreed.  He'd taken a seat on the ground with his arms resting on his bent knees.  "You just need to work on not making that face."
Zelda huffed, her arms flopping to her sides and her glow spluttering out.  "I'm trying!"
The problem was that now that she'd allowed herself to feel affection for Link, she always felt a little giddy and ridiculous when she did so.  Apparently, this manifested not only in a divine luminescence, but also in a love-struck look on her face.  Link referred to it as "bedroom eyes" when he was being polite, and "fuck me face" when he wasn't.  He'd taken a bunch of pictures to show her, and he was (annoyingly) correct.  She could not make that face in public.
"Maybe you'd look less sultry if you closed your eyes," he said.
"Then I wouldn't be able to see anything!"
"Can you use your Goddess powers to see things?"
"I can use my Goddess powers to glow!  They don't do anything else!"
"Are they supposed to?"
"I don't know!"
"Try it."
She closed her eyes and tried it.  She remembered the warm pressure in her chest and she remembered the heat of his breath on her skin and she thought about how he he'd made her a tiny little cake the night before and then blushed as she'd gushed over it.  Those were things that she liked about him.  Those were good things, and she felt a way about them.
The glow didn't light.
Why not?  Those had made her feel things.  She felt things.  Things for Link.  She took another breath and pushed into less appropriate territory, of the way he'd wrapped around her back the night before and let his hands wander until she was moaning with abandon and glowing, burning.
"You got it?"  His hands came to rest on her hips, and her eyes popped open as she lit up.
Goddess, she hated that he could do that. She batted the thought away, and held tighter to her lust.  Goddess, she liked his hands on her.
He looked taken aback, almost awed.  Even though he was expecting it.  Even though he'd seen it dozens of times now.
Part of why she needed to get her face under control was that it affected Link so.
He swallowed hard.  "Close your eyes.  Let's see if that...oh."  His voice turned rough.  "Oh, that's so much worse."
He pulled her in at the waist and kissed her desperately.
#
Link made himself scarce as she wrote up her field notes.  She had very little to write.  She'd made very little progress.
In frustration, she tossed her journal away.  She would just have to have Link come touch her when he was done battling Ganon.  Maybe he could magically poke her with his index finger as if she were the Sheikah slate.  And they most likely would evacuate the area, so it wouldn't matter if she had on her come-hither face.  Link would just have to deal with not making out with her for however long it took to seal the Calamity away.  And who cared if she made a face?  If making a face saved the world, no one would be allowed to say anything.
Except Zelda cared.  She didn't want to look ridiculous, and she didn't want to rely on Link to access her own powers.  She glared at her journal.
Where was Link anyway?
She stomped off to go glare at him.  Or go have him be gentle and compassionate until she had too much trouble holding onto her irritation.
She found him before the Goddess statue, his head bowed, the sword drawn with its tip resting against the ground.
She frowned harder.  "Are you praying?" she asked.
He startled and spun around.  "Oh.  Yeah.  Um.  You haven't been praying lately, so I've had to...pray by myself."
An old, familiar hurt settled over her. Of course he was on such good terms with the Goddess, when she was...she was...
She was working on her relationship with the Goddess.  She understood that maybe it was all a big misunderstanding, but that didn't mean it didn't still hurt, and it didn't mean she wasn't still upset that she couldn't fully access her powers without the help of someone the Goddess liked.
Link looked nervous, as if he knew she was about to shout at him again.  Guilt lanced at her stomach.  She lowered her eyes and stepped near him.
"What do you pray for?" she asked quietly.
"Um.  Nothing?"
She snorted.  "You pray for me."
He didn't say anything, which confirmed it.
"Show me," she said.  She turned him back to face the Goddess, and slipped her way into his arms, her back to his chest.  She placed her hands over his as they planted the sword to the ground.
He held himself stiff with discomfort, but then relaxed his arms under hers and lowered his head.  "Close your eyes," he murmured.
Well, this was her idea.  She closed her eyes and lowered her head.
"I pray for you to have some guidance," he said.  "Because you desperately want to please her, and you want to do it right, but all you have to go on are rumors and what you're ordered to do by people who don't know what they're doing either.  I pray for some sign that you're on the right path.  Not because I want to know, because I know you'll get there.  But for you.  You need assurance or your self-doubt eats at you, and there's no way that self-doubt will save Hyrule.
"And I pray for you to be happy.  Because you're beautiful when you're sad and you're beautiful when you're angry, but I would die to see you smile.  To hear you laugh.  The way you carry yourself when you're at ease, the excited way you talk when you catch onto something new.  That light in you could light the whole world.  It could burn away the Calamity."
"You're a charmer," she murmured.
"You're a peach."
She snorted.  "You don't pray like I do."
"Yeah?"
"I wouldn't tell the Goddess all that."
"Why not?"
Why not?  "Because she already knows?"
"But maybe she wants to hear you say it."
"She wants me to wax poetic about a girl?" she teased.
"Wax poetic about what you love."
"Love is a strong word."
"And you're asking for a powerful weapon."
Her eyebrows furrowed.  In a small voice she asked, "What should I pray for?"
He thought for a moment.  "Why do you want to save Hyrule?"
"Because it's my--"
Duty.
She startled.  The answer had rolled off her tongue.
Anxiety she couldn't name clawed at her chest.  She shifted uncomfortably.  Maybe standing like this had been a bad idea.
"She'd like to hear you say it."
Her breath shook.  "I want to save my people.  My friends.  Urbosa and Revali and Mipha and Daruk.  They're so devoted and encouraging.  If they fell, then their people would suffer.  All the brilliance of our people would falter, all compassion and the triumphs.  The wonderful art and music and literature--"
"Even the bad literature."
"Especially the bad literature!  And the bad music!  All the ridiculous rumors, and the guards who devour those rumors, and all the fake girlfriends out there.  We would lose all of that!  And as shameful as it is, I would fight for those things."
"What else would you fighting for?"
"The Sheikah technology.  You don't know the victory you feel when two pieces snap together.  The thrill when a guardian lights blue under my hands.  The way Robbie nods along when I ramble and then picks up my thoughts and runs with them, taking them somewhere new, and the I can pick them up again and run farther.  The way Purah grabs my arm the moment I walk into the lab.  The way she drags me to a diagram and asks my opinion.  As if I'm wanted!  As if I'm needed!"
The sword flared under her hands, a ringing note at the base of her skull, and her eyes flew open at the call for attention.
She was glowing.  A warm pressure burned in her chest, and she grabbed hold of it to maintain it.
"What--"
"Things you care for," Link murmured.
She turned her head to look at him in surprise and confusion.
The corner of his mouth quirked.  "You're not making the face."
"How long have I been glowing?"
"Since you declared your love for trashy novels."
"Love is a strong word."
He shook his head and laughed under his breath.
"But,” she said, “I need a strong weapon.”
His eyes darkened.  “You’re making the face again.”
When she kissed him, it was bright and sharp as the sun.

Recently I was reviewing the text of Demise's curse in Skyward Sword, and I had a thought that's been bothering me since. More below the break if you’re interested.
Here's the text from the game:
My hate... never perishes. It is born anew in a cycle with no end! I will rise again. Those like you… Those who share the blood of the goddess and the spirit of the hero... They are eternally bound to this curse. An incarnation of my hatred shall ever follow your kind, dooming them to wander a blood-soaked sea of darkness for all time!
Here's what I understand each line to mean:
My hate... never perishes. Pretty clear - Demise’s evil is eternal.
It is born anew in a cycle with no end! Demise’s evil takes some physical manifestation over and over again. (i.e. Ganon/Ganondorf)
I will rise again. A new physical manifestation will come despite Demise’s defeat in SS.
Those like you… Those who share the blood of the goddess and the spirit of the hero... They are eternally bound to this curse. As long as Demise exists, Link and Zelda are doomed to be reincarnated every time his evil takes a new physical form.
An incarnation of my hatred shall ever follow your kind, dooming them to wander a blood-soaked sea of darkness for all time! I will assume that “your kind” refers to Hylians or Hyruleans. So Demise is saying the people/races of Hyrule will never be free of his evil, and their history will be riddled with darkness (except when Link and Zelda overcome it and bring about an era of peace.)
So this is the cycle as I understand it:
Demise gathers enough strength to return. How this happens is unclear, and it might take decades, centuries, etc.
Once he manifests in some physical form, Link and Zelda are (re)born. Exactly when this happens is unclear, and the timing seems to be inconsistent.
Link and Zelda realize their destiny and fight Demise (his new form). If they succeed, Hyrule enjoys an era of peace until Demise gathers enough power to repeat the cycle. If they fail, one (or both) is eventually reborn to face Demise again (either the same form or a new one). How and when that happens is unclear and subject to debate.
My question is... why the heck did Demise curse Link and Zelda, the ones who defeated him, to keep coming back?? Did he just doom himself to never succeed? Maybe he relishes the challenge, but it sounds like sealed his own demise (😁). Or am I missing something? 🤔

Zelda ORAS - Inia Dragmire
My apologies for taking so long, I have a very shitty sleep schedule as well as being distracted yet again, but it is finally done and I can finally rest easy...for a while of course lol :'-)
Anyways, allow me to introduce you to Inia Dragmire of the Gerudos, she's li43101's character from our RPs as well as the current incarnation of the Demon King Ganondorf. From what I can gather is that after the events of BOTW and it's supposed sequel, Demise got sick and tired of being defeated by Link and Zelda's incarnations using Ganondorf and Ganon because he always loses to them, so he just scrapped him entirely, never to be seen again.
...Except he is seen again as a female Gerudo because fate had other plans and Ganondorf reincarnated again, only this time as his own person, and the fact that he's a woman instead of a dude shows that he's no longer tied down by Demise's curse anymore, that and all Gerudos are women(save for one man being born every 100 years) so it makes sense.
For those wondering why her face looked familiar is because she is Makeela Riju's twin sister in this universe...and no, she is not 12 years old in this setting(can you imagine though? lol), both of them are aged up to 19 years old just cause, so she's relatively taller than Link and Zelda here. She also seems to be very close to Revali of the Rito, even going as far as to teaching baby Ritos the Gerudo language. She's also still partners with Zant and Ghirahim, they just have to deal with her being a woman now XD
I kinda imagine her being more combat oriented compared to Riju because she's technically female!Ganon, hence the armor she's wearing. I actually tried drawing Gerudo armor and trousers on her but she always came out wrong no matter what I do, hence why it took so long to draw her as well as ruining my sleep schedule, so I gave her Germaine Avadonia's armor from EC(sorry for being unoriginal) and a slit skirt with tights, and it pretty much worked out well.
I also gave her a lot of oranges and yellows to give her a bit of a warmer look and to reference the color scheme of Din and the Triforce of Power. Just like how Link and Farore are green and how Zelda and Nayru are blue. Speaking of which, I did added in some greens to balance out the warmness as well as contrast the colors, also green seems to be a popular color among Gerudos in BOTW, especially considering that it's often associated with Link throughout the series as mentioned earlier.
Inia Dragmire belongs to li43101 of DeviantART

1, 3, 11, 17, 20, 21 and 22? :o)
1. Tell us about your current project(s)  – what’s it about, how’s progress, what do you love most about it? My current project is my in-progress BTTF fic "'Cause I Might Not Make it Back" (which I just posted the next chapter of!). Basically, in the summer of 1986, Marty gets caught up in a case of time-traveling spy intrigue and ends up in 1932 with amnesia and a Bon Jovi tape--and young!Doc finds him. Fun fact: before I went with Bon Jovi, the original outline had him go back to 1932 with a tape that Marty had made to record Queen's Live Aid performance; the chapters were all originally Queen-themed (and it was originally titled "Though You're Many Years Away"). I switched to Bon Jovi after I remembered that Live Aid was summer of '85, not '86, which was when Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet album was released.
The other project I'm planning is a 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo fic called "Sands of Time and Space" (so yeah, bit of BTTF influence in this one); since I don't count the Curse movie as canon to the series timeline (they retconned waaaaaay too many things for it to make any coherent sense), this will be my way of showing how Fred and Velma found out about the shenanigans they missed out on after the rest of the gang visits Velma in Florida to watch the launch of a new Mars probe developed by her supervisor at NASA.
3. What is that one scene that you’ve always wanted to write but can’t be bothered to write all of the set-up and context it would need? (consider this permission to write it and/or share it anyway) A. MYSTERY. SCENE. ON. A. TRAIN. Like something intriguing a la Orient Express, but I am thwarted either by either by there already being such a scene in canon (MFU, Scooby-Doo), or there isn't enough of a premise for it (Hogan's Heroes, Pokémon). ...At this point, BTTF might be my only chance to pull this off; maybe Doc and Marty end up on the actual Orient Express via time-travel... (and Marty breaks out his "inconspicuous" Secret Agent Man disguise from Part II again while Doc just facepalms in the background).
11. What do you envy in other writers? HOW DO YOU ALL UPDATE YOUR FICS SO QUICKLY???
17. Do you think readers perceive your work - or you - differently to you? What do you think would surprise your readers about your writing or your motivations? I honestly don't know if they perceive my work differently than I do--they'd have to tell me themselves. At this point, I don't think I have any surprises--most people know I write about character relationships, with some drama and angst, but always with a happy ending.
20. Tell us the meta about your writing that you really want to ramble to people about (symbolism you’ve included, character or relationship development that you love, hidden references, callbacks or clues for future scenes?) Most of the fics I write are all meant to be in the same timeline. And I have a lot of references that tie events from other fandoms together; if I listed them all, we'd be here all day, but here's one example-- In my MFU Halloween fic, "The Jack o' the Lantern Affair," I had Victor Marton mention to Napoleon and Illya that he had a "very distant cousin in Tibet" to whom he bore some amount of resemblance to. This was meant to be a throwaway reference to Vincent Van Ghoul, an in-joke since Vincent Price played both roles--at the time, I never imagined I'd be writing 13 Ghosts fic. Now that I am writing 13 Ghosts fic, I have to make it come full circle--Napoleon and Illya will have a cameo in the party scene in "Sands of Time and Space," as Velma's supervisor is also Napoleon's childhood friend, Takeshi (who, in one of my many MFU short affair pieces, I revealed as working for NASA--which I only did at the time because I wanted him to have a space-themed bachelor party so that Napoleon would come home drunk after having one too many drinks that had been dubbed "Supernovas"), and Napoleon and Illya will pull the mother of all double-takes when they see Vincent Van Ghoul at the same party and momentarily mistake him for Victor Marton.
21. What other medium do you think your story would work well as? (film, webcomic, animated series?) Well, I intend for my stories to fit right into canon, so I generally see them in the same medium that they're originally in. Exceptions are whenever there are crossovers/cameos--I wrote a Scooby fic last year that had the 13 Ghosts fam being chased through ruined Hyrule by Calamity Ganon and basically imagined the fam drawn in Breath of the Wild/Age of Calamity-style for this fic, which was a very intriguing image, indeed.
22. Do you reread your old works? How do you feel about them? Yes, I do! For the most part, I like to see it as how far I've progressed since I started posting fic. Obviously, I'm going to think my newer stuff is better (though I also consider some of my older pieces "classics"), but that's only natural.

Shaded version, flat-color version, ghost version(based on both Satori and Hero’s Shade), and scarred version. (from Guardian-based injuries)
I... cannot believe I actually managed to pull this one off. Wolf Link always seemed so impossible to draw, but I did it! Even though, I did end up making him bigger than he is in canon.
Gotta give Wild a big pupper to cuddle up to.
Does this mean I have no excuse for bad art anymore?
I have a couple of headcanons about these two as well.
But first...
Do not repost without getting my permission first. It really doesn’t take a lot of time or effort to simply go to my ask box or send me a private message and just ask.
Thank you.
Please, the OG version took me four whole days.
On to the headcanons!
Wolf Link: Twilight
Link: Botw
1: Probably a more popular one, (I think?) but Wolf Link is still the Link from Twilight Princess. After his (untimely/eventual/Eeehh?) death after the events of his game, he ended up sticking around as a guardian spirit. Somewhat like how Time was able to stick around to ease his regrets, albeit more voluntarily.
This is due to his protective nature shown in TP. He wanted to watch over Ordon and the people of Hyrule after his passing as well.
Every Link is protective in some way or form (Like Wind with Aryll, Time with the Triforce/Hyrule/Zelda, Sky with Zelda, even Wild with Zelda), but it seemed to be a more prominent and consistent theme in TP.
Twilight protecting the Ordonian kids all throughout the game whenever danger reared its ugly head, that’s how his entire adventure started in the first place. Twilight shielding Midna from Zant, Midna shielding Zelda from Ganondorf, Even Twilight being protected himself by Lanayru, the Resistance, and Midna in that order. (By Midna twice even!)
“Protection” is such a big theme in Twilight Princess. (Including the scene of Zelda choosing to surrender over the death of her knights and her people, everything revolves around protecting someone or something.)
So there you have it, long story short, Twilight is a protective guardian spirit.
2: Between TP and BOTW, Twilight spent most of his time in the woods of Hyrule, he’s very acquainted and trusted by the animals of the forest. Animals outside of the forest seem to take a quick liking to him as well, whether he’s a wolf or a Hylian.
3: Twilight knew of Wild’s birth and has checked up on him from time to time, never involving himself until Calamity Ganon’s return resulted in the death of the Champions and (nearly) Wild. Twilight stuck around on the Great Plateau, waiting for Wild to be resurrected. He’d felt the Calamity’s return, too.
4: Twilight acts like a guide to Wild, much like Time was to him, except he is present all (or most) the time. He is also Wild’s support, knowing the teen is going to be in a bad place after waking up with no memories and learning of the life and people he lost and the failures he blames on himself.
5: Having a big wolf to cuddle up to, Wild makes use of every opportunity to do so. He’s only a Hylian, after all. He sees a big floof, he gotta hug the big floof. It takes some getting used to, but Twilight lets him.
6: Twilight will scold Wild when he does anything reckless, but all Wild hears are angry borks, though he can definitely feel the disappointment. In the beginning, this often leads to Wild trying to appease him by giving him meat. It doesn’t work, but Wild tries.
7: Wild often has nightmares of a life he can’t remember, when they hit, Twilight will make sure to curl up around him to help him settle, it happens most of the time. Wild often ends up grabbing hold of him.
8: Twilight’s nickname for Wild is “Pup”. It is not a mocking nickname, but genuinely an endearing one. Wild’s feral innocence only convinces Twilight how fitting of a nickname it is. (Wild once caught a fish with his mouth) Wild simply refers to Twilight as “Wolf”. Should Twilight ever appear to him in human form, the nicknames would probably still stick.
9: Wild absolutely fills the Sheikah Slate with photos of the friendly wolf that has randomly decided to follow him around and be his friend.
10: Wild does eventually figure out on their travels that there is more to the wolf than meets the eye. He takes down enemies with relative ease and without fear, he knows battle strategies, he knows how to solve a difficult puzzle, he can read, ...
But the moment Wild found out his wolf was actually a spirit this entire time was the most heartbreaking. It happened on a certain night, in a certain place, when the wolf glows similarly to Satori, a similarly deceased Sage-turned-spirit-Lord of the Mountain.
With everyone he knew and love already having died 100 years prior to waking up, even though he has no memory of them, he still felt heartbroken with this discovery. Although, he does end up being glad to still have his wolf with him.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Probably should stop at 10 headcanons. If I don’t, we’re gonna be here for hours.
I have some Botw!Zelda headcanons to fit in this (AU???) as well.

BOTW Challenge Ideas
So, I made a giant list of botw challenges. They’re under the cut, because trust me, it’s looong.
I might add more, I might not. Didn’t do it on a google doc because google docs look horrible on mobile. Please note that challenge runs are for fun and you don’t need to adhere to these exactly, if you have an idea, or like one of these, but want to tweak it slightly, it’s your game, you should have fun with it. I’m not gonna hunt you down or anything. Anyway, I recommend you give it a look over anyway because I added in-universe justifications for Link acting this way and some of them are funny.
The more indents they have, the more difficult I think they are. Then again, I haven’t attempted all of them, so I don’t really know. Italics are the “rules”, Bold is the name, and normal is the in-universe justification. Idk if Tumblr actually did justice to my formatting, so you may have to ignore this entirely.
This took several hours to make, and several more to put into tumblr, because tumblr hates Quotev’s formatting.
Edit: Formatting is fine, but only for the desktop version :(
Limited Teleportation: Purah dared Link to do it, not thinking that he’d take her seriously. You pick 5 shrines, and those are the only ones you can use to fast travel.
No Teleportation: Fast travel makes Link very queasy, so he’s not going to use it. No fast travel.
Only Foot Travel: Link’s allergic to horses, and fast travel makes him want to throw up, so he’ll stick to the tried and true method of walking and running. No horse, fast travel, or bomb launches.
Random Limited Teleportation: Purah dared him to do it. She has the names of each of the shrines and randomized them, she didn’t think he’d actually do it. Input all the Shrines into a randomizer, the top five are the only ones you can use to fast travel to.
Horse Only: Link loves horses very much. They don’t make him want to throw up, and they’re faster than walking. Sure it may be a hassle to drag them up mountains, but he always has a friend, so it’s fine. No fast travel, get a horse as soon as you can, you must have a horse beside you at all times (excluding the desert or other areas where your horse is literally blocked from entry)
My Best Friend!: Link thinks it’s cruel to have a lot of horses and pay very little attention to them, so he decides to keep one horse so they can be best buddies! You get one horse and it needs to be by your side until you defeat Ganon (once again, excluding the desert), try to keep it alive, you only get one horse and I hear the trip to Malanya will take quite a while without your best friend. (Bonus points if you name the horse Epona) If your horse dies, you must go to Malanya IMMEDIATELY and abandon whatever you were doing. No fast travel! (Teleporting horse is yours to decide though.)
Farmboy: Link and his horse have befriended a wolf! Link decides to officially name it Wolfie, and they’re a trio of best friends! The above, except add the Wolf Link Amiibo to it. Same rules apply, keep them with you at all times unless they are forbidden from entry.
I Do What I Want Old Man!: Link is honestly just doing it to spite the old man for leading him on for so long. The Plateau isn’t even that tall, he can climb down! It was only the fog that made it look scary! No paraglider. That's it. Have fun.
Limited Upgrades: Turns out, the Great Fairies have limited magic, even with him supplying the materials. That’s fine though, He doesn’t want them to waste their magic on him when they need it for themselves. You can only upgrade 3 outfits (9 articles of clothing) though you can upgrade them to their maximum.
Restricted Upgrades: Turns out, he can’t find the last two fairies. He feels bad, but it’s fine, he’ll just restrict his upgrades to repay them. It’s not like they’ll ever find out... You can only upgrade 5 articles of clothing, and only half-way.
No Upgrades: What are Fairy Fountains? Link doesn’t know! He’s too busy looking for memories to chase rumors. Fairy Fountains are not to be used for upgrading clothing.
Limited Clothing: Link thinks the clothes are cool, but he doesn't want to waste money on them when he has a perfectly good doublet and perfectly fine pants. He'll have a backup pair, but anything more is just excessive. You get 2 Armor sets and that's it, you can mix and match, but you can only have 2 pieces of headgear, 2 shirts, and 2 pants.
Small Wardrobe: Several travelers have given him the advice to "pack light" and "only bring as many clothes as you need" but a girl also said that "mixing and matching clothes is the worst thing ever" so he'll play it safe and pack lightly but avoid mixing two different outfits together. They’ve been in this world longer than him, so surely they’re right? You get two clothing sets, no mixing and matching
It's My Favorite Outfit: Several travelers have said to pack lightly, and some even said that it was only worth it to bring the pair of clothes that you wear. Smell apparently doesn't matter if you're a wanderer, which is good to know. You only get one clothing set, and if you plan on getting Vah Naboris, you know which one it'll be.
Birthday Suit: Link doesn't like clothes, they chafe and they get in the way. Underwear are the minimum he needs to be decent apparently, so he can't completely get rid of clothes. Someday though, he'll do it anyway. No clothes. Period. I don't recommend combining this with No Meals.
Restricted Clothing: Link figures that "packing light" would mean that he only has one set of clothes. If he plays it smart, one set is all that he'll need anyway. You only get one headpiece, one shirt, and one pair of pants. Mixing and Matching is allowed
I don't like pants: If he's being honest, Link hates pants. He likes the breeze on his legs and the grass, or rocks or sand or snow, beneath his feet. Pants also restrict his movement more than a loose shirt does. He's far more flexible without pants. You can only wear shirts.
This is my favorite shirt: Link doesn't like pants. He also got attached to one specific shirt. He loves it and he's not changing. Sure, he'll take it off to wash it, but he won't put a different shirt on or anything. You can only wear one shirt. Choose wisely
Aren't I beautiful?: Link doesn't like clothes, but headpieces are fine. A lot of them look really interesting too! People keep saying they'll look better with clothes, but his comfort is more important than looking good to other people. He looks good to himself, and that's all he needs. Only headpieces are allowed.
Safety First: Link doesn't like clothes. They're a waste of time and they feel weird. He doesn't really like headpieces either, well, except for one specific piece. Only one headpiece is allowed. (The name is a reference to Hard Hats.)
Shirtless Chad: Link can admit that he likes the attention when he goes shirtless. He isn't particularly muscular, but he's made more than one person blush, and he counts that as a win. If it means he's less restricted when using his bow or a weapon, well that's just a plus. Become that one buff guy that never wears a shirt. Pants only.
I don't smell!: Link doesn't like shirts, and he doesn't like anything on his head that might pull on his hair or block his vision. Pants were a bit of a compromise, until he realized how painful it was to step on a rock barefooted. Still, only one pair of pants is actually comfortable for him, and he rarely takes them off. One pair of pants, choose wisely.
No Shops: Link...doesn’t like asking for things. It makes him feel stupid or greedy, so when he found out that there was a whole profession where people gave things to you if you asked, he didn’t want anything to do with it. Even if it was technically a trade, it made him feel bad. You're not allowed to purchase anything from any shops or wandering merchants.
No Gifts: The king said not to trust strangers too much, and after his first encounter with the Yiga, he understood why. He doesn’t know if they’d try to poison him or use money to lure him into a false sense of security, but he isn’t going to trust it. He’ll be polite, and then immediately throw it away once their back is turned. He isn’t going to let his guard down. If an NPC gives you something, you ain't allowed to keep it or use it. If that thing is rupees, spend them on bugs and set the bugs free.
No Selling: Link didn’t know you could sell things to the shop owners, and even if he did, he’d feel greedy and stupid for trying to sell a shopkeeper bugs and plants, so he’d probably avoid it anyway. You're not allowed to sell anything to get money, if you want money, win it from a mini game.
Wiser the Miser: Link doesn't like spending rupees, so he doesn't. If he can steal or get something for free, he will. Someone gives him rupees? Their loss. Who needs to buy things when there's a world full of resources? Don’t buy anything. If you want exceptions, like getting into Gerudo Town, it’s your call.
No Selling or Shops: Link doesn’t like stores. They make him uneasy. Enclosed spaces where people ask for your stuff? No thanks. You’re not allowed to buy from shops or merchants, and you’re not allowed to sell anything either.
No Selling, Shops, or Gifts: Link doesn’t trust anything that people give him. Maybe it’s paranoia, but it’s entirely justified. Shops are the same, people asking for his stuff when he has more important things to do than barter. Shops are honestly a waste of time when he can get everything for free, except maybe goat butter. If an NPC gives you something, you must drop it, or, in the case of a food item, use it at full hearts/full stamina and if it has an additional effect you will stand in the middle of an inn and wait for the effect to wear off. You’re also not allowed to sell or buy at shops or from merchants.
No Chef Here: Link can make a good elixir, but he can’t cook and he’s not even going to attempt it. He’ll make do with raw apples and meat and whatever else he can find. He’ll be fine. Elixirs are fine, apples and stuff are fine, cooked food is not.
What's a Cooking Pot?: Link doesn’t know what the giant bowl thing is, so he stays away from it. If people give him stuff to eat or drink, he tends to throw it away, because he’s smart enough not to risk being poisoned. If it requires you to use a cooking pot, you ain't allowed to ingest it. This includes gifts from NPCs because we all know not to take candy from nice strangers
Don't Eat Raw Food!: The king warned Link against eating raw food, so he isn’t taking any chances. If you want to eat something, you need to cook it first.
No Meals: Link doesn't understand why people waste time eating. Nor does he understand the whole hunger thing. Maybe it's a Shrine of Resurrection thing? Essentially, you aren't allowed to eat or drink anything, including elixirs.
I Can't Cook: Link thinks his cooking is pretty good. Sure, he thinks it's weird that people eat Moblin guts and wood, but who is he to judge, he doesn't really know anything, and he hasn't died yet, so it's fine! No elixirs or proper food, only Dubious food and Rock-hard food.
Insomniac: Link wants to sleep, but he can't, not when there're so many things he needs to do. He can sleep after he saves Hyrule. No beds, including the one in your own house.
No meals or inns: Link doesn't need to eat, and it's unsafe to sleep in a room full of strangers. Mipha has his back, and Hylia does too, if he rests, he'll do so where there aren't any strangers or wild animals to stab him in the back. You can only heal via Mipha's Grace, Heart Containers, or buying your own home.
No Meals or Beds: Sleeping wastes time, and he doesn't need to eat. He needs to save Hyrule, and he can relax when that's done. You can only heal via Mipha's Grace and Heart Containers.
No Meals, Beds, or Heart Containers: Link uses all of his Spirit Orbs for Stamina, because anything that makes him faster will also help him save Hyrule faster. He does wonder why Purah freaked out and tried to force him to sleep when he admitted that he hadn't slept since he woke up, or eaten for that matter. Eh, maybe Zelda will know, and the only way he can ask her is if he saves her. Only Mipha's Grace and three hearts, have fun!
Ew: Link refuses to drink elixirs when he knows exactly how they're made. It disgusts him, and he's not letting them anywhere near his mouth. No elixirs/tonics.
Normal Hylian: Link isn't some sort of god, he can't just freeze time in the middle of battle to heal or change his clothes or grab a new weapon. He can only heal or change after a battle and if he breaks his weapon, he can take cover and switch out or he can just use bombs. Like a normal person. No changing clothes or healing during battle, no flurry rushes or bullet time. If you break a weapon, take cover and get a new one, or use bombs.
Actual Normal Hylian: Aside from not being a god, Link also needs to eat and sleep. Sure he can go without for a day or two, but eventually he'll just crash. And whether it's five raw apples or a five course meal, he needs something to eat. He also needs to stay hydrated, but that's what rivers are for. Try to make him sleep in a bed once every three days at least, and make him eat one meal a day (it doesn't have to be cooked, but it is generally preferred). Also, let him go for a swim every once in a while to stay hydrated, because I doubt he's carrying around any water. (This one adds on to the one before it, though not combining them is totally your call!)
Carnivore: Link got messed up in the Shrine of Resurrection, and now he can't digest plants. You can eat it raw or cook it, but you can only eat meat. Inclusion of Elixirs is up to you
Herbivore: Link gets queasy when he has to kill innocent animals, so he's doing fine just eating plants. He refuses to drink Elixirs too, knowing what they're made of. No meat or elixirs.
Liquid-Only Diet: The Shrine of Resurrection messed up and now Link can't ingest solid food, he also happens to be lactose intolerant, so no milk for him. Elixirs only.
No Map: Link doesn't want to waste time climbing the towers, he'll figure it out. Don't get the towers (except the Great Plateau), you have to use your surroundings, get a feel for the land. Use of Minimap, Divine Beast Maps, and Teleportation is Allowed (No Hyrule Castle Map though)
No Map PRO: Link doesn't want to waste time climbing the towers and realistically, he doesn't have a HUD in the corner of his vision telling him where North is. No Map+Pro mode, so have fun with that. You'll be very reliant on Death Mountain and Hyrule Castle. Divine Beast Maps are still allowed
I'm Lost: Link promptly forgot about the fast travel function and he really doesn't want to climb the towers. You can get the shrines, which are recommended for the spirit orbs, but you aren't allowed to teleport and you must be on Pro Mode. Divine Beast Maps are allowed. You can get the towers if you want to waste time, but you won't be looking at the map, so it's not recommended
The Legend of Zelda: Link has no idea where he's going, but he figures he'll be able to figure it out the more time he spends awake. He feels like he's forgotten something though... We're going back to the NES days! No teleportation, no horses, no bomb launches, and absolutely no map! Have fun getting lost just like the good old days where tutorials didn't exist and maps were reserved for dungeons. And, like dungeons, Divine Beasts do have maps and you can in fact use them.
No Retreat!: Link isn't a coward and he's stubborn. He isn't running from a fight even when he probably should. If you hear the battle music, you can't run away.
No Rest for Heroes!: Link doesn't need to sleep and he doesn't really care that it's dangerous at night. He'll beat whatever stupid monster picked a fight in the first place. You can't sleep through the night to avoid monsters, and you must stay and fight if you hear the music. You have bombs if you run out of weapons
I'm Not Failing Again: Link is guilty and angry. He is Hylia's hero, Protector of Hyrule, it's high time he did his job. If you happen to be near a monster, attack it. Monster camp? Destroy it. It doesn't matter if they don't see you. If you see them, you kill them. Simple as that. No intentionally avoiding monsters either. Best paired with No Map, but I'm not your minder.
FOR THE FALLEN!: Link is the Hero of Hyrule and he will do his job. Sure, he has a problem with rushing into battle, but really, what hero didn't? It's essentially the same as I'm not failing again, but you aren't allowed to do Stealth Takedowns, you see a monster, you run in and do melee combat, bows are allowed if you're close range and the battle music is playing.
Boss Hunter: Link doesn't like boss monsters. Taluses especially are literal death traps for travelers. He's sure he'll get a reward too, they're called Boss Monsters for a reason, right? Kill every boss monster in the game.
Lynel Hunter: Link knows they pose a threat to the people of Hyrule. At least you can run away from most boss monsters pretty easily. For the safety of Hyrule, he will kill every single lynel.
Limited Weapon Slots: Link never meets Hestu. No Koroks to expand your weapon or bow slots.
Spears Only: Link didn't feel comfortable using a sword because he felt like he didn't live up to who he used to be. But the claymores and other two handed weapons were bulky, and he was horrible with a bow. And then he found a spear, and he's never regretted grabbing it. The only weapons you can use are spears, no bombs either. Have fun getting a spear in the first place. (The Korok Limitation does not apply to the rest of these unless you want it to)
Elemental Spears Only: Link likes spears, but elemental spears are way better, in every way. He's never going back. Spears Only too easy? Well now you can only use spears that have an elemental effect.
One-handed Weapons Only: Link's muscles have atrophied from the time in the Shrine. He'll have to make do. What it says on the tin, only use one-handed weapons.
One-Handed Swords Only: Link would rather not use a stick, he's been trained with a sword so by Hylia he will use a god dang sword! One-handed swords only.
One-handed Elemental Swords Only: Link hates that he can't handle larger swords because these elemental ones are great. They just seem way harder to come by than the bigger ones. These disappear the further you get in the game, so have fun with that I suppose. Rationing is going to be your best friend.
One-Handed Elemental Weapons Only: Link loves elemental weapons, but he still hasn't built up enough strength to use the big ones, and he wasn't great with spears or the bow, but the Wizzrobe rods are fun too. One-handed too easy for you? Have fun with this. Options are the Wizzrobe wands and the small elemental blades, the further you progress, the less of the weak blades that'll pop up, and the stronger ones are two-handed weapons, so you'll be killing a lot of wizzrobes if you want to keep a good supply.
Rods Only: Link doesn't really like swords or bows, or really any other weapon. He couldn't really pinpoint why. Until he grabbed a wizzrobe's rod. Power that he didn't know he had coursed through him, and he decided that he wasn't using anything but rods from now on. Only use wizzrobe rods. If it's easier, use any weapon until you find your first wizzrobe, whatever works for you.
Boomerangs Only: Link didn't like getting in close, but he also sucked at archery. Then he found his first boomerang. His aim was good and it came back! It didn't break upon impact, it was perfect! Boomerangs only
Two-handed Weapons Only: Link feels inferior to his Before-Calamity Self whenever he wields a one-handed weapon. Because BC Link was trained with a sword, so there's no way Post Calamity Link can ever compare. To get rid of that feeling, Link only uses two handed weapons, weapons that he's pretty sure BC Link was never trained in. Use only two-handed weapons
Claymores Only: The king, upon Link's inquiry, said that he used a royal claymore. In an effort to remember him, and an irrational fear that he'll forget everything again, Link decides to wield a claymore. Even when he finds out the less than stellar parts of the King's personality, he's too used to the claymore to give it up. Claymores only.
Korok Leaves Only: Link doesn't like swords or traditional weapons, and the Wizzrobe's rods are a bit too...hostile? Yeah, hostile. But the Korok Leaf's magic is quieter and more serene. It also seems...familiar, but he can't pinpoint why. It's also pretty hard for him to break, so he's fine with using it to blow opponents away. Korok Leaf Only, have fun beating Ganon, though Dark Beast is impossible with only a Korok Leaf.
Bow Only: Link likes the bow. He likes it very much. Past Link was good with a sword, but Present Link is not Past Link, Past Link is never coming back and Present Link will grow to become his own person. What better way to distance himself from Past Link than to specialize in a weapon that knights rarely use? Bow only
Normal Arrows Only: Link does not like the sensation he gets from using elemental arrows, and really, they are much too expensive, he'll stick to his normal arrows. Bow only, with only normal arrows.
Elemental Arrows Only: Link finds them very effective, and very fun to mess around with. He kind of forgets that boring normal arrows exist. Bow only, only elemental arrows.
Bomb Arrows Only: Link likes explosions, and the ones he gets from bomb arrows are much more satisfying than the ones he gets from plain old bombs. Sure they're expensive, and sure the rain keeps them from exploding, but...really, after being killed and resurrected, he can afford to give into a few whims, right? Bow only, bomb arrows only
Ancient Weapons Only: Robbie said they were more effective, and Link'll be the judge of that. He'll have to scavenge a lot of dead Guardians, but it'll all be worth it for these supposedly more efficient weapons! Ancient Weapons only, go to Robbie's immediately after the Plateau, I don’t think you actually need the quest, until then, all weapons are allowed
Master Sword Only: Fi is calling out to him, and Link will get to her as quickly as possible. Get thirteen hearts without weapons or using bombs as weapons, then go straight to the Great Hyrule Forest to retrieve Fi. Fi is the only weapon you're allowed to use as a weapon. Other weapons can be used to cut down trees and such, but if they damage a living creature or a monster, then you must reload your previous save.
Trial of the Sword: Fi is weak, and Link hates seeing her like that, so he wants to help her as quickly as possible. It shouldn't be hard for a chosen hero, right? It’s essentially the above challenge, but you also do the Trial of the Sword immediately after getting Fi. Weapon rule is obviously exempt for the duration of the Trial.
Wooden Weapons Only: Link doesn't like the sound of clanging metal. He only uses wooden shields, bows, and weapons. He doesn't care if it makes Death Mountain difficult, his poor ears don't like the sound. Only use wooden weapons, shields, and bows, if it attracts lightning, it's not allowed. Korok leaves or other non-metal but still non-wood items are also banned.
Metal Weapons Only: Link doesn't like splinters, he'd rather be a lightning rod. He also doesn't really trust the durability of wooden weapons, so he'll avoid them like the plague and use only metal shields, weapons, and bows. Only metal weapons, shields, and bows are allowed, if it attracts lightning, it's good to go.
Nuzlocke: Turns out, Link forgets how to use weapons once he breaks them. It's an annoying little quirk that means Link can only use each weapon once. You break a stick? You can't use another stick for the rest of the game, same goes for all weapons, bows, and shields.
The Moon's Curse: Every Blood Moon, Link loses all of his weapons, shields, bows, food, elixirs, and items. He only keeps his clothes and the special items. Link thinks it's Ganon trying to stall his inevitable defeat. Every Blood Moon, clean out your inventory, your hands must be empty, whether or not you count clothing is up to you, and you can eat meals to get rid of them.
Tech Mage: Link....has forgotten how to use weapons. It's a bit unfortunate but the king told him to collect the runes for a reason right? And the Wizzrobes' rods just need to be waved around, no training needed, so he'll be fine! Runes and Rods only.
Techie: Link...doesn’t really know how to use weapons, which makes it hard to kill anything. But, he does know how to use the runes. He did just learn how to after all. He doesn’t...really need weapons...right? Runes only, no weapons, shields, or bows. Well, allowance of shields can be personal preference, since Guardians will probably be a nuisance until you get Daruk’s Protection, if you allow use of the DB Powers.
No Shields: Link finds them bulky and useless, he'll just go without. Simple as that, no shields.
Fragile: Link doesn't really find the need for heart containers when he's mostly running around. Besides, it's just more incentive to get better at fighting. No Extra Heart Containers. Divine Beast Heart Containers can either be kept or traded in for stamina at the Hateno statue.
Asthma: Link can deal with not being able to run for long periods of time. What he can't deal with is how fragile he is. If he hadn't had that fairy, the Moblin would've killed him in one hit! No, he needs to be way more durable than he is now. No Extra Stamina Wheels.
I Don’t Need A Goddess’s Help: Link looked at the statue once, and saw it as a waste of time to pray. He's failed once, he doesn't need a goddess's help to do what previous heroes did alone and on their first try. No praying to statues, so no extra Heart Containers or Stamina Wheels.
Zero Deaths: Link isn't immortal, Mipha's magic isn't as powerful, and fairies don't work on him after the Shrine of Resurrection, so Link has to be careful. He won't get a third chance if he dies again. Disable Mipha's Grace and don't collect fairies. If you die, it's over. Ganon wins.
Sorry, Your Gifts are Worthless: Link appreciates the thought behind the champions giving him their powers...but he can't actually use them. He's not a trained medium or anything, and he needs to communicate with them to make the powers work....soooo.... Don't use the divine beast powers.
I'll Be Quick: Link never got the memo that he was supposed to help the Divine Beasts, but, well, Zelda was alive and the champions aren't, and the only one actually causing any immediately dangerous issues was Vah Ruta, but the Zora will be fine, they're fish people. Defeat Ganon without the Divine Beasts.
Time for Fun: Link is bored, then he remembers all the mini-games around Hyrule. Get the best score on all the mini games.
Photogenic: Link likes taking pictures and getting information for things. It's a fun pass-time that also helps out Symin and Purah. Take a picture of everything, it doesn't matter if you fill your compendium, but you must take a picture if you see something new (obviously only starts once you get the camera rune)
Everything Breaks: Link finds breaking things fun, and if it keeps him sane, might as well indulge his urges. Make a list of all the breakable items in the game, and then break every single one. Maybe you'll defeat Ganon, maybe not. Vandalism is more important.
Economist: Link doesn't really know how to hunt, or which fruits are safe, so he collects things, sells them, and proceeds to buy things that he knows are safe. He buys all his clothing and food, weapons are perhaps the only things he can get for himself. He helps out NPCs too, on the off chance that they'll give him something. Once a city boy, always a city boy. If you pick it up in the wild, you can't use it unless it's a weapon. Sell everything you pick up, and instead buy all your food and clothing. Elixirs too. If you have a picture of a recipe from the stables, you can use those, but only those.
Eventide Challenge: Link is a bit of a completionist, but he also hates back-tracking, so, using the towers as a measure of his progress, he decides to do everything he can in one region before going to the next. You do all you can in one region, or as much as you feel like doing anyway, then you collect the next tower and get rid of all your food, weapons, shields, bows, meals, and clothes. You must make your way directly to the tower if you leave the region, collecting shrines or fighting monsters before collecting the tower is sort of cheating. (You can decide for yourself if previous regions are off limits or not. If they are, I recommend planning out which region would leave you in the best position for Ganon. If not, just have fun!)
Reverse Dungeon Order: Link expected the Divine Beasts to get harder as he progressed, but they got...way easier... Vah Naboris, Vah Ruta, Vah Rudania, Vah Medoh (people say Rudania is the easiest, and I can't even get past the puzzles, so...maybe Fireblight is easier, but Rudania kills me via my unintelligence and I did Vah Medoh in less than five minutes, just go for the hardest ones first and the easiest one last, since I guarantee someone found Vah Medoh to be challenging and Vah Naboris easy. This one is probably the most customizable.)
I'm Not A Hoarder!: Link doesn't like using his resources, because he might need them later and it's such a bother to backtrack and get more if he runs out. He collects things because he might need them later. And really, it's better safe than sorry. You see something, you pick it up. Don't sell anything, try to eat or use as little of it as possible, actively seek out more rupees via mini games.
I may have a problem: Link acknowledges that it isn't exactly normal to have so much of everything, and to immediately restock upon using some, but...he can't stop. Max out all your inventory space. 999 of everything. Max out your rupees while you're at it.
I'm Actually Not A Hoarder: Link doesn't see the value in wasting time picking up useless crap. He has bombs, and he doesn't need to eat, he'll be fine. Don't pick something up if you don't intend to use it immediately. Keep your inventory as sparse as possible. Only collect rupees if you intend to use them for something.
Speedrun: Link has a task he needs to get done, and he needs to do it quickly. Pick a speedrun category and do it. Don't compare to the world record, compare your time to your previous times and measure your progress that way. World record doesn't matter, only having fun does.
Where does this go again?: Link is currently in a pickle and has no idea where the blue flame is. He found one in Akkala and decided that it was the one Purah was talking about. He couldn't find it again when Robbie asked, but he did find the one in Hateno, so he used that one. Use the Hateno Blue Flame for the Akkala Lab, and the Akkala Blue Flame for the Hateno lab.
Impaired Senses: There has to be some consequences for resurrecting, and only losing his memories is a very light consequence. A blindfold is the most obvious one, though you can also turn off sound, which still has a little bit of impact, though it isn't as drastic.
Auto Saves Only: Link is subject to the whims of the goddesses. What it says on the tin, no manual saving for you!
Hunger Games: Link has the rules of the game outlined to him by a goddess. He can do nothing but submit, fearing her wrath. Pretend that towns and stables don't exist (avoid them like the plague), Master Mode, Only Foot Travel, the only time you enter a village is if you intend on completing the Divine Beasts and/or Memories for Impa. If you see an NPC don't interact, only wear clothing sets without set bonuses or special effects, if you see a Yiga, kill them, the Yiga are the only NPCs (aside from the Main Story NPCs) that you are allowed to interact with. Interacting with Koroks and Great Fairies is fine. Every blood moon, you choose one tab at random and completely empty it (special items tab doesn't count, Master Sword and Hylian Shield are exempt from this), and every time you collect a tower you can scan an amiibo, try to ration them.
Pacifist: Link doesn't like killing. Never has, never will, and he avoids fights like the plague. There's no need for excessive loss of life, he'll defeat Ganon and save the Champions, but that's it. Only kill the blights and Ganon and any other mandatory fights for the true ending (Like, I think Kohga is mandatory.)
I'll use this until it breaks!: Link doesn't see the need to stockpile weapons, not when almost anything can be used as one. He'll be fine. Essentially, you pick up the first weapon you see, you use only that weapon until it breaks, when it breaks you, again, pick up the first weapon you see, rinse and repeat. Master Sword is allowed, since Ganon’s going to suck without it.
100%: Link is going to do everything. He has no memories, and he's been dropped in this giant world. He's doing everything and nothing will stop him. You know exactly what this entails and I don't recommend it unless you're speedrunning, and even then, it's a bad idea.
Don't get hit: Link's stubborn, he doesn't like getting hurt, so he won't. Take no damage, even a quarter of a heart means you failed. Doesn't matter if it's a golden heart or not.

improvements for breath of the wild endgame:
1. after completing all gerudo sidequests if link removes his disguise while inside the city there’s a cutscene where the guards are insistent on getting rid of him permanently but then all the various gerudo you helped over the course of the game come forward and say how link helped them and that he shouldn’t be kicked out (seriously so many gerudo know link is a voe in the endgame, this can mean link is able to walk around gerudo town without vai clothing)
2. pikango continues to be seen in various locales, becoming a travelling npc? its a shame that when playing you basically see him everywhere for a bit, then you see kass everywhere, and then you just dont see them at all in the endgame except in their home locations. it would be nice to see them both walking around, maybe even being seen together and some point. its just a shame he gets relegated to kakariko village at the end never to be seen again
3. this is a weird one and i don’t really know how it would work but something to do with making a stable a more permanent settlement? it is weird that there are a lot of hylian settlements but so many of them are very transient stables, all of which look the same (in universe explanation is that they use malanya’s image to deter monsters and so on), imagine one of the more central ones can get an upgrade where it becomes a kind of proper inn with a stable attached, with a couple abilities for link to work as a chef there as a repeating sidequest. bonus points for this one if you can permanently defeat the guardian and monsters in the ranch ruins because i just want to see it restored
and some similar things i want in botw 2:
1. bigger settlements - hateno village and gerudo town both feel nice and spacious with enough movement to feel like they really function but at the same time i just want to see a hyrulean city with loads of npcs, like ocarina’s castle town but bigger and more developed. obviously this will probably not be possible given it is a direct sequel but they need to do something new and this should really be it
2: being able to ride more animals - good fun riding bears and deer but please let me rise moose and stuff. also a good development from the inventory of botw is to make it limited - link can go to any stable/equivalent and access the inventory there (like he can call horses from any location to the stable). this is the only place he can access the full storage and he can only carry limited amounts to each place, making it harder to just set out anywhere and be prepared (which can get boring later in the game). also make these places the only place link can get changed so you can avoid areas where its hard to get into it the first time but every other time is easy because you have the proper clothes (its too hot to get to goron city the first time but then you just buy the flamebreaker set and the limitation loses a lot of relevance). for ease you can have one change of clothes or something but just not all of them.
3. on that note, horses and donkeys being useable as pack animals for extra storage, and clothes with layers would be a fun way to be able to work around heat and cold (a tunic is warm and light but wearing it with mail makes it stronger, but makes it heavier to wear, so less useful when climbing or something). there could be good sidequests where npcs want a type of good transported that is placed in a mount’s pack and you have to take it to the location (like the ice sidequest in spirit tracks but significantly better)
4. pet the dog
5. they’re almost definitely not going to keep korok seeds given i’m sure that well is dry so give us kokiri or something, it would be nice to see a kokiri village again. on that note offer some races we haven’t seen in a while/much of, like the anouki (can you tell my first games were phantom hourglass and spirit tracks) like come on hebra is a perfect region full of desolate spans of frozen tundra and tricky enemies it is BEGGING for a village of happy-go-lucky antlered folk who waddle around.
6. fishing mechanics that involve fishing? generally i think its likely theyre going to bring some new weapon types into the game - ideally slingshots as a projectile and whips as a long-range melee tool. also maybe do some fun stuff with elemental items - i like the utility of the thunderspear and the frostblade and so on but i would love love love to see more weapons that can do things with elements, like the windcleaver/korok leaf but make versions that aren’t two-handed and basically useless
7. let me play as zelda, but don’t do some silly ‘control either player’ thing. link is canonically very powered up, having defeated ganon in botw and i worry theyre just going to depower him in a contrived way, so this is a perfect time to have him taken out/have him in a second location so that zelda has to do the work to save the day. the idea of zelda being the player character is fun because it could also make the game more about diplomacy and role-playing alongside the combat and exploration, which is something we never see in loz but could be really fun as an addition. botw did a lot to introduce the idea of integrated exploration and experimentation with the limited skills link has, and zelda as princess of a ruined kingdom trying to unite it and as someone who speaks a lot more would be a good character to use as the lens to do so
8. pls don’t let it be like that leak said. i hate how every theory for the plot is a rehash of one of the former games. its either ‘hyrule is in the sky’ or ‘ganon seeks a mysterious mask he can use to win’ or ‘time turns back to the distant past’ or ‘the goddesses send a great flood’ like can we just not have any of these. the only thing id be happy to see from previous games might be something about alternate presents (which is similar to time/twilight but idk) where we are more reintroduced to the triforce or something. zelda very rarely makes a direct sequel and it never makes such oblique references to other games, so its something of a weird position to be in
