“I’d love you. But I need another year alone.”
T/Ws: Drugs, neglect, death, abandonment
Cass was born in England, the only son of a single mother and absent father. His early childhood was pretty much defined by his mother’s immaturity and various addictions - she was a teenager when she gave birth to him, and an alcoholic, although by the time Cass was five she had graduated to heroin. As a result, he was shuffled back and forth between the care system and family home, eventually being permanently removed from her care at the age of ten. Since Cass’s birth father was not known, he ended up in the first of a series of foster homes - unfortunately, since he has a misguided amount of adoration and idolisation for his mother, none of these lasted long as Cass began to raise hell and act out in an attempt to force them to send him back to his mother.
After being passed back and forth for a few years, much to Cass’s dismay he ended up in the care of his now adopted parents, with no amount of acting out seemingly enabling him get rid of them the way he had so many others in the past. They seemed (the audacity) to actually want him around and want to give him a chance at life, formally adopting him despite his displeasure at it and moving the family to his adopted mother’s birthplace of New York when Cass was sixteen to give him a “fresh start.” And at first, even if he didn’t want it to, it seemed to work. And for once, he started to allow himself to feel attached to them, like he could finally settle down.
Except that didn’t end up lasting long, either. In his senior year of high school, Cass fell hard and fast for a girl. So hard and fast that it didn’t even cross his mind that she seemed off, vanishing every month, or that there were certain red flags surrounding her that his eyes just couldn’t pick up on. The night of his eighteenth birthday was a full moon, and all he wanted was to ask her out. So he followed her into the woods, intending to be a romantic. When he got bitten by what he presumed was a wild animal and showed up in the emergency room for a rabies shot, he presumed it was just going to be an amusing anecdote to tell her when he saw her again. He didn’t know that everything in his life was about to change. When he saw her again and went on about his bravery and how he’d injured himself in her pursuit, she told him if he had any sense he’d get the fuck out and run away, that Opulence would be a better place for him and that she was sorry. He chalked it up to her being crazy and went back to his everyday life, until the next month.
His first time changing into a wolf happened, of all times, in the middle of his adopted parents wedding anniversary dinner party, at a restaurant outside. And if he’d thought he wanted them to leave, the moment they actually looked at him in fear and told him to get the fuck out, he realised he was wrong. But by that point, he was too late, and all he could do was pick up a few of his things and run away, keeping in mind what his crush had told him a month prior. He was stuck in a country which wasn’t his, with no idea what to do, no friends to call, and the only thing he could think to do was show up at Opulence with his minimal savings and put his teenage hobby of carjacking to use in a more wholesome way. Having been abandoned by everyone else in his life, he grew to value the pack he joined beyond anything else - but he never quite learned to let anyone else in.
“what power did he attain when settling in opulence?”
None.

he was born twenty-three years ago, he is a werewolf who lives in white oaks as a mechanic at bolt’s auto repair, and is in the pack. he looks an awful lot like elijah hewson.
“and sorrow’s native son, he will not smile for anyone”
tw: drugs, neglect, death, abandonment
Cassian Evans was born in England to a single mother, and raised secondary to the initial love of her life - her drug addiction. His birth father was absent, unknown, not listed on his birth certificate and thus Cass assumed his was the same situation, addicted and unprepared for a child to come into the picture. Or a one night stand forgotten about until the consequences arrived nine months later. The only hint he’d ever had towards his father’s identity was his name, and even then all he could do was assume it was Welsh and perhaps that was a factor. The reality was something he wouldn’t have imagined - his father was a faerie and subsequently Cass was born fae. Unable to remain in the human realm his father had left before his birth, but protected his son with a glamour designed to last until his eighteenth birthday, the day he would become an adult, meaning that he wouldn’t show any outward signs of being of fae heritage until then. Thus he remained unaware of his true species, believing himself to be a human, and equally unaware that his mother’s drug addiction stemmed from time spent trapped in the fae realm and her desperation to get back to a dreamland state. Instead, Cass grew up fending for himself, cycling through a series of foster carers and social workers, occasionally moved back to his mother’s care when she got clean only for her to lose him again soon enough when she chose drugs again over him.
By the time he was twelve he was permanently removed from her care, and by the time he was thirteen he had been adopted by a couple claiming to give him a new life. Cass didn’t buy it. He’d been acting out by this point, becoming increasingly difficult to deal with and increasingly closed off, a side effect of the neglect he’d experienced in his formative years. Three years of tension followed with his adoptive parents making fleeting efforts to bond with him, before these efforts became few and far between, replaced with frustration at the fact that Cass just didn’t appreciate them acting like his heroes and preferred to run away and spend more time with his mother, refusing to even call his adopted parents the titles of mum and dad.
By the age of sixteen he had become impossible to control, skipping school to smoke weed or drink with friends, getting into fights, and once arrested for stealing a car. They had had enough of the problem child. His adopted mother was American and by virtue of the adoption Cass had gained dual citizenship, enabling them to ship him off to her childless sister in New York under the pretense of giving him a fresh start, ridding themselves of him and proving him right - that nobody would stay with him. Stateside, Cass didn’t exactly try to change his ways. If anything, he became worse. School for him was simply an avenue for meeting people, he spent more time in detention than in the classroom and often left halfway through the day. Devoid of an adult to actually discipline him he became more out of control than ever, ran through girlfriends and boyfriends at a speed even his friends struggled to keep up with and continued to perfect the type of behaviour that had gotten him sent away to start with. In fact, it was this behaviour that changed his life forever - a girl he’d been pursuing, just two months before his eighteenth birthday. He followed her into a park, the night of a full moon, aiming to ask her out. Instead, he found himself with a bite mark on his arm. He assumed it was a dog and left it at that.
Come the next month, alone in his room, he found himself suddenly transforming. Cass had never believed in the supernatural before, never even considered werewolves as a possibility. When he confronted her about it, she had only one suggestion - that he should run away. She’d heard talk of Greywood. He had no other options, and figured talk was better than nothing, dropping out of high school and driving himself across the country without so much as a goodbye to his adopted family. Which was how Cass ended up in Greywood right as he turned eighteen, a new werewolf and unclear on where to go from there. Able to gain a job at Bolt’s through his experience fixing his own car and teenage car jacking hobby, he set about preventing himself from getting close to anyone ever again.
“what power did he attain when settling in greywood?”
Cass has gained the power of telepathic communication, but he’s only able to use it with one person - the person he truly loves. As a result he’s never experienced it nor is he aware of it..

So err- FINALLY have a design for this guy!!
Meet Cassidy, Fionn's ex boyfriend and co-worker, who specialised in puppet and prop design! He holds no ill feelings against Fionn, hell he wants to kindle his old friendship with him - but it's tough to get through the barrier that is the bitter, melancholic demeanour Fionn has built up over the years. He serves as a second father figure to the puppets, moved into a huge house near Fionn's town, has an ex wife and is overall a gentle guy <3
Will be developing him more as the AU goes on, so stay tuned to see more of him!! (And Peony, and any other characters I make!)

Some ideas on Theia, Fionn, Pelias and the High Lords
Since House of Flame and Shadow is coming out soon, I want to leave this registered here for posterity hahaha. I'm doing most of this by memory, I haven't really reread, so any mistakes you find that's probably it lol. Also this is WAY more focused on CCity and its character's than ACOTAR proper.
ACOSF introduces us to the Daglan and Fionn, the First and Only High King of Prythian. According to the Prythian side of the legend, he has a sword called Gwydion which was dipped into the Cauldron by the High Priestess Oleanna, which he used to defeat the Daglan. Milennia of peace followed, the land was divided in the precursors to the courts, but then they were at the brink of war. He became High King and was betrayed by his best friend and his Queen, who was also queen of her own territory in her own right.
In Crescent City, we are introduced to the figure of Queen Theia, the Starborn Queen who led the Fae out of their homeworld and brought them to Midgard. She had two daughters, Helena and an unnamed second one. She was betrayed by her most trusted general, Pelias, who then married her daughter and forced her to bear his children. Her other daughter escaped, never to be heard from again. The Starsword beloged to Theia. Come HOSAB, we learn it and Gwydion are one and the same.
Applying Occam's Razor to these two characters, the simplest outcome is that Theia was Fionn's wife and the one who betrayed him, Helena and Nameless Daughter are their children, and Pelias is the best friend and general who betrayed him. Fionn probably wasn't a great person because let's be real, Theia found Aidas later and SJMs has a thing for making past love interests looking bad when a new one is in town (example: Shahar for Hunt).
I don't want Fionn to have been evil! And I guess this is what these ideas boil down to. I'm not even gonna call them theories because they aren't really based on hard evidence. Just fun What Ifs, possible parallels, headcanons. Who knows? So without further ado:
What If Pelias played the role of Iago?
We all know Pelias is utter trash. He betrayed his Queen and forcibly married her daughter so she could be the mother of his now royal children. If he was Fionn's best friend, I have exactly zero reason to think he wasn't trash and power hungry then too. All in all, regardless of what Theia and Fionn's relationship was like (and I want to believe they were both good people), I believe Pelias was the root of all evil.
I can see him feeling inferior to both: Theia with her blazing starlight compared to his meagre one and Fionn was probably remarkable in his own way. I like to think that though they didn't love each other, there was respect and trust and even camaraderie. They both played their part in expelling the Daglan. Fionn got to be High King and married Theia, who was Queen of Dusk. He was their friend, relegated to their shadows.
This gets even juicier if we accept as true that Pelias was always a Starborn Prince. Maybe he was Theia's illegitimate brother, maybe a distant relative. I can see him wanting everything his friends have: the crown of High King, the title of King of Dusk, everything. Greed and Jealousy that drove him to manipulate his closest friends into turning against each other and ended with Theia slaying Fionn.
He never got to reap the rewards in Prythian, though: Theia's killing of Fionn sent the realm into disarray. We are told the Fae were lured to Midgard, and I think that's because Theia took the chance to flee a whole land that wanted her dead for her crime either for justice or their own greed (we will come back to it). Theia escaped believing Pelias was her friend and trusted general. I don't think they were ever lovers. Maybe that too played a role in his jealousy and anger, how Theia never loooked his way and found love with Aidas.
Regardless, he betrayed and murdered her anyway, dooming her daughter to a lifetime of unhappiness.
What if Fionn and Theia were siblings?
Frequently, across Crescent City, we hear that the Starborn have intermarried to keep their bloodline pure (how utterly Targaryen of them). We have yet to hear about any historical examples of such unions, but Fionn and Theia provide a fine opportunity for this to be brought to the table. The Last Starborns marrying out of duty to keep their bloodline pure in their old world. It also goes well with how Gwydion and Truthteller are siblings blades, one belonging to each.
Could Theia have been a Queen of her own territory in her own right then if they were siblings? Why not? Plenty of queens in history were queens in their own right, regardless of their husbands. She could have been the oldest and heir to the Dusk Territory, Fionn the younger sibling who was chosen as the High King. Or maybe he was the eldest and gave up the throne to her. Maybe the territory passed down in the female line or to the strongest starborn. In any case, it's not really a hurdle.
In this scenario, Pelias as their best friend (distant relative/bastard half-sibling/wtv) still works. In fact, it complements it because it highlights Pelias's hatred and envy for them both. They get everything, he gets nothing. Taken further if Fionn didn't have the Starborn's light, but was a legitimate prince.
It would also create an interesting parallel between Ruhn and Bryce. Siblings, one dark and one light. "Maybe there's a knife for me out there", Bryce herself says. Ruhn's the older brother and as far as we know, the heir, but it's Bryce who is most often compared to a Queen. Not him, though if I recall, Bryce think she will be a good ruler. She is right. Ruhn might carry Pelias light, true, but his shadows are Fionn's.
This time, it doesn't end in tragedy.
What if Theia was Fionn's daughter?
This is VERY far-fetched, I freely admit to it, and was born out of me trying to rationalize the difference between ACOSF and CCity: Gwydion is Fionn's sword, but it'salso the Starsword, which is Theia's.
Simplest solution is either: it was Fionn's and Theia took it all after she killed him and Midgard doesn't have the full story or it was always Theia's and Prythian remembers it incorrectly. The Dread Trove we know was likely made by the Asteri and it wasn't originally Fionn's.
Crackpot theory: Fionn was the Starborn King, hero to the Fae, and married the Night Queen to secure his rule (that's where shadow power would have com into the bloodline). Fionn and his Queen have a daughter, Theia, and Theia herself has two daughters of her own. Who fathered these kids is 100% irrelevant. Sarah didn't give the Archeron sister's father a name, I'm not holding my breath he isn't just a no one.
Pelias is Fionn's best friend and general, and madly jealous of the man. Likely wants to marry his daughter, too. In any case, he and the Queen betray and murder Fionn, intent on setting Theia on the throne. In the end, Pelias tricks Theia into believing it was all her mother, and he is on her side. The Night Queen, ruler of Nightmares, was always a means to an end. Maybe she was aligned with the Asteri too, considering the Wild Hunt imagery in the CoN.
Or maybe the Queen was dead by then, and history has conflated her with Theia. Maybe Theia, Queen after her mother, thought her father was becoming a tyrant and decided to kill him. Maybe Pelias pushed her into it, thinking he could marry her. We actually never know how long Fionn reigned. Theia never stole anything at all: it was always hers by right. She was to be the next High Queen.
And then the High Lords intervened.
What if the reason Theia fled to Midgard was because of the High Lords?
Theia was lured by the Asteri to Midgard. But why? Why did she gave up everything in her former world to a new one? What could have driven her to take such a risk? I think she wouldn't have, had she any other choice. Theia was, to put it simply, pushed against a corner because she had a rebellion in her hands.
If she killed Fionn and he was recognized as the High King and well loved, this may as well have started a rebellion. Not even because he was a good king (maybe he was), but for their own power. The Royal House is in disarray, regardless of its familial arrangement, and what better place to strike? They do not want a High Queen whatsoever.
So they attack Theia. Maybe at some point she loses parts of the Dread Trove, which is why Helion has the reaction he has to the mask: it's an echo from when his ancestor used it against Theia. In any case, she's fighting a losing war. Her people will be eliminated. She's losing and desperte, and the Asteri's call is her salvation. She doesn't notice the trap.
Victorious, the High Lords weave history to be whatever he wanted, twisting or erasing the role she played. And, perhaps, this is why there have been no High Ladies: there's magic preventing it, magic which the first High Lords established to keep the power at bay, because Fionn's only heirs were women.
And this closes the bunch of ideas I wanted to write down lmao. Probably none of this will become canon but hey, it's fun to think of other possibilities! Again, this was all by memory, incosistences galore, self-indulgent, I don't really expect any (except Pelias is the Iago but that's pribably what EVERYONE thinks, but I needed to write it down for the rest to make sense you know).

This is Red-Quill, former swamp bandit turned freedom fighter against the nefarious Lunar Empire, who is aided by his devotion to the god of thunder!
So I got to draw some duck-men. It was hilarious. It was a blast. They're from the fantasy world of Glorantha and you can play as them (or alongside them) in the RuneQuest TT RPG.
Tumblr media
Here, a duck shaman is sending out her spirit to go and met her mentors’ spirits in the spirit world. Shaman business. Her look is actually based on a real duck breed. (I was thrilled endlessly that all of these fantasy ducks are based on real-world duck breeds.) The big one with the snout is a troll shaman. Also pictured: her pet bullfrog and the sculptures of it that she’s made, because she loves it so much.
So these aren’t furries or anything, they’re more realistic versions of whimsical, hissing cartoon ducks like Marvel’s Howard the Duck or Disney’s Donald Duck. They’re sword and sorcery duck people! More precisely, they’re part of the accepted and generally very well-loved fantasy setting called Glorantha. You will know about Glorantha in a roundabout way I suspect… The Elder Scrolls game Morrowind lovingly ripped off a bunch of it and it was the setting for the indie game legend King of Dragon Pass and its successors. The most popular way for people to experience Glorantha over the years though has probably been the table-top role-playing game RuneQuest.
Tumblr media
Here, a healer initiate of the goddess of mercy Chalana Arroy, tending to some fellow ducks. (The seated guy in the middle with the shoulder bandage is supposed to look like a mandarin duck, I had to tone him down though, otherwise his bright colours would have stolen the show.)
So Runequest has a very lovely new edition that came out a while ago. It has a unique appeal in that it’s an RPG that lets you play out mythology. Well, kinda. Being a mythology nerd (I have an in-progress Fionn Mac Cumhaill graphic novel as proof) I was powerless to resist. RuneQuest’s storied publisher Chaosium (they of the Call of Cthulhu RPG) run a community content programme for RuneQuest called the Jonstown Compendium (named after a big library in the setting of Glorantha) where people can publish their own adventures and sourcebooks as PDFs via DriveThruRPG and popular titles then become Print-on-Demand books.
Tumblr media
A put-upon member of duck nobility here, she’s a big deal for the duck people, but sadly the humans nearby don’t take her seriously.  The crosses aren’t crucifixes, they’re the rune of death, which is supposed to look like a simplified sword. The runes that look like Ys are the truth rune. These are the runes of her god, Humakt, GOD OF DEATH. And sword fights. The duck people love the god of death. *Falls off chair*
You can buy the book with these guys in as either a PDF or a hardcopy, it’s called ‘Duckpac’ and is from Drew Baker, Neil Gibson and friends at Legion Games. (The title of the book is a bit of a pun on an old RuneQuest book about trolls, which was called ‘Trollpak‘.) This book is for you if you want to play as a fully-realised duck person, with duck-person things to think about, based on a history, genealogy and mythology of duck-people. Yes, really! It’s pretty incredible.
Runequest has a reputation online for being ‘the game with silly duck people in’, which is entirely justified, they’re like the cute mascots of the whole deal. The story goes that back in the late seventies, one of the gang of friends who help make the game world was a Carl Barks Donald Duck comic strip fan, resulting in a town called Duck Point existing on the map. There’s another story that someone involved was making lead miniatures of Carl Barks style Conan the Barbian gag ducks and he needed a game to attach them to so it didn’t look like a straight Disney rip-off. Stories real and apocryphal abound. There’s never been an official book about ducks (or the ‘durulz’ as they call themselves) for the RuneQuest game so this one’s here for you and has background, characters, locations, adventures and more.
Tumblr media
A scarred duck boatman (boatduck?) and diver, initiate of a river god, on his barge, wondering what the heck you’re doing paddling about in his river.
The bit of decorated driftwood in the background above is his effigy of his god. I made him look like a Bronze Age version of a swimming athlete, like Duncan Goodhew with rustic trunks and a swimming hat. I was passed a reference photo of an upright duck (who looked amazing), so this was an upright composition, in a tall portrait frame.
instagram
Here’s a little vid of me flipping through the lovely hardback print version of the book. This is the first print volume and then there’ll be another volume of solo and group adventures.
That old love of the UK comics scene Mr. John Freeman even saw this madness and featured it on his Down The Tubes site here, Which Was Nice.
Oh and as if you above verbiage wasn’t enough proof, you can check my RuneQuest nerd chops by looking at my very own RuneQuest campaign log page and wiki here, if you fancy. It’s got more drawings on there!

Muirne / マナ, Deimne / ディムナ and Corrine / カレン
Muirne is an Isaachian cleric and a member of the imperial resistance in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. She is named after Muirne (also called Muireann Muncháem), the mother of Fionn mac Cumhaill in Irish mythology. Her father - a druid - foresaw her marriage leading to the loss of his home and thus prevented her from being with any of her countless suitors. Cumhall, however, stole her away from home. By the time he was found and killed in battle, Muirne was already with child. Her father, disgusted, ordered her to be burned to death. Only by the grace of the High King was she spared and went into hiding to give birth to her son. After leaving the child in the care of Cumhall's sister Bodhmall, she returns to society and married a king. Muireann's refuge with Bodhmall and Finn being born in hiding may relate to Muirne's part in the resistance movement, their base hidden in the town of Tirnanog. The mythological figure marrying into royalty may also relate to Murine's crush on Seliph.
In Japanese, Muirne's name is マナ (rōmaji: mana), romanized as Mana. Despite the romanization, the name is likely derived from マーナ, the common rendering of Muirne.
Deimne is an Isaachian bow knight in the imperial resistance and Muirne's brother. In Irish mythology, Deimne is the birthname of Finn mac Cumhaill, who came to lead the Fianna like his father once did. Under this name, Deimne came to serve anonymously under various lords and kings, but would be dismissed when his parentage was realized, as Cumhall's rival Goll mac Morna and his family were seeking to kill the boy. In most tales of his youth, Deimne found himself studying under the poet Finnegas, who was fishing for the Salmon of Knowledge, a fish that, when consumed, granted understanding of all things. When the salmon was finally hooked, Finnegas gave it to Deimne to cook; it was while the meat was searing that the boy burnt his thumb. He reactively put the finger to his mouth, and the salmon's wisdom was bestowed. Learning of what had happened, Finnegas gave the boy both the fish and the name Fionn.
In Japanese, Deimne's name is ディムナ(rōmaji: dimuna), romanized as Dimna. This uses one of the common renderings of Deimne in the language, the other being デムナ.
Corrine is a girl from the Isaachian capital and a suggested love interest of Deimne. This fan-localized name was likely to help differentiate her from Thracia 776's Karin, as their names are similar in Japanese. In the native language, her name is カレン (rōmaji: karen); while this is typically used for the name Karen, it can also be used for the Irish name Cullen. In The Boyhood Deeds of Fionn mac Cumhaill, the boy briefly stayed in a village called Cullen. Here he met Cruithne - daughter of the smith Lóchán - who quickly fell for the young hero. Despite not knowing each other long, Lóchán gave his daughter to Fionn and forged two spears at the youth’s request. After being told to avoid a certain road in Munster known for an aggressive boar was found, Fionn sought out and slayed the beast. He then returned to Cullen with the boar’s head gifted to the smith in exchange for taking Cruithne for a bride. This episode with Fionn and Cruithne serves as inspiration for the romantic nature of Deimne and Corrine's relationship.

Now, onto the second part of the announcement!
As you may have seen in our previous update, we have an update planned for Spring! Enough time has passed, and we believe that is is all ready to go!
Overabundant Life (Spring Event: April - Mid June!)
With the death kneels of a mushroom man who was preventing the cycle of life and rebirth, an explosion of pent up natural and life energy has saturated Elsternwick and the surrounding area, Spring was delayed for a month or so, but now it is here in full force... perhaps a bit too much full force!
Plants and vines are growing all over town, on buildings, on people, everywhere! There's even a few rare plants that hunger for human flesh... and herbs that many will pay a pretty penny for, hope you've got your shears at the ready!
Not only that, but an explosion of animal life has brought new life to the forest, all types of creatures are wandering in and around the forests of Elsternwick, baby animals, protective mother animals, and a few odd ones you may have seen before, you'll have to be careful, if you're feeling daring, maybe you can go hunting...? Make sure they're cleared to hunt!
With melting ice and flowing water, the Lakes and Rivers of Elsternwick are brimming with latent life, hungry fish, and unusually clear water, it's a fine time to fish, or perhaps explore the lakes around town, you may even find some long forgotten treasure...
And finally, as Spring begins, Arcadia Carnival begins with a grand festival, tents and games of all types are visible around the board walk, with portals to other worlds freely open, wonderful visitors of Fae Nobility wander freely, and promises of endless joy surround the carnival... there's even a promotion to get extra Arcadia Tickets! Perhaps just this one you can trust faeries...?
And that's just a few things planned for our Spring Event! As you can see, it's focused mainly on how Spring has life growing all over the place, and we think there's plenty of opportunities for interesting roleplays, we look forward to what you may end up doing!
It ends in Mid June, so don't fret, you've got plenty of time before our Summer Events!
Upcoming Features
Finally, we have a small update on some of our upcoming events for 2024!
In 2023, a majority of the events were serious and focused on Story, including alternates, curses, and emotional energy running amuck, for 2024, we decided that this year's events would instead focus inward, with a majority of our events focusing on Locations within Elsternwick, and expanding on the lore of our fair city!
This was player voted on thanks to Discord's brand new Poll feature, which also helped us decide which places to focus on with upcoming events, and we're pleased to give you a small teaser of what's to come in Mid-May! Hopefully you won't be waiting too long...
Elsternwick's rivers have long run through the town, with many passing over it, unaware that another long river flows beneath...
When problems begin to plague Elsternwick's water, citizens will have to traverse into the maintained sewer sections and find various surprises, and perhaps a glimpse into something forgotten in the town's past.
You'll be surprised by What Lurks Beneath. As Above, So Below, as they say...
We're still ironing out the details, but we hope you'll look forward to it when it's ready in May!
Once this is finished, why not cool down and head to the beach?
Amazing things are beginning to wash up on the shores, and the roar of the ocean hides many things, valuable and wonderful things that the Museum and Library may be very interested in...
With the return of an ancient book, strange things are happening there, and perhaps some of these beach curios could help calm whatever has taken root in the library, bringing history to life...
Our next Event will likely overlap with Summer, so you'll be waiting longer for it, but we hope you'll look forward to it!
Update Done!
This should about do it for this update! Sorry to keep you waiting, and we hope you'll look forward to the upcoming events, and any interactions with our new arrivals!
And we also hope the rest of your Spring is amazing! In Elsternwick, or otherwise!
Spring will give way into Summer in just 50 days, and we'll have activities planned for then as well, and we can't wait to see what creative things you'll do with our events for this year! Whatever may come, you're sure to learn more about Elsternwick and perhaps those who live in it...
But until then, we hope the rest of your night is well and wonderful!
We look forward to whatever you may be up to, both within and without Elsternwick!
See you again soon!

Name: Bridie Fionnuala Dougherty Species: Faun Occupation: Owner of Tír na nÓg Age: 28 Years Old Played By: Grace Face Claim: Aisha Dee
"My parents totally knew when they named me that I was gonna be amazing. It’s in my initials! BFD- Big Freakin’ Deal!"
TW: Alcoholism
Bridie always loved music. It felt like it buzzed through every single fiber of her being. It would make sense, since she practically grew up in venues like The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. The Dougherty family lived in an aos sí just outside of the city limits. It was far enough away that they were safe from the non-fae, but close enough to the city that they could go and have their fill of people enjoying themselves. And Nashville was a great spot for it. Bachelorette parties, bars, clubs, and concerts- the city had it all. And one of the city’s biggest acts was Fionn Dougherty. Bridie loved watching her father perform. The control he had over an audience was like nothing she’d ever seen before, and the frenzy he’d get them all whipped up into… They could feed for weeks on that energy alone. She knew from the time she was sat in the wings with her mother Oisin, she wanted to be just like her dad when she grew up.
Unfortunately, Bridie’s talents weren’t exactly musical in nature. She could sing well enough, but not well enough to sell out venues, and she couldn’t play an instrument to save her life. But her ear was her gift. Bridie could predict what songs would be hits with astounding accuracy. She simply attributed it to knowing what she liked. “And if I want to dance to it, then everyone is going to want to dance to it.” Being a young faun in a big city, she spent a lot of her evenings in nightclubs once she was old enough, and that’s when it hit her. She could do this. She could create a space where people would come, and listen to great music, dance until their feet fell off, drink, revel, and give her enough euphoria to feed off of for the rest of her days. It was foolproof!
Well. Almost foolproof.
There were a few problems. The main problem with owning a business is that you’re the one in charge. And while Bridie loved to party, she hated to be the boss. That was the major downfall of her first spot- a nightclub in New York she called The Avalon. She just did not want to be the one responsible for getting all the paperwork in order that she needed to have everything open by the books. It was stupid, in her opinion. Why the hell did they need a liquor license? It’s easy! You open the bottle, and you drink! It’s not hard! Needless to say, the place was shut down within a year. The second problem was that  she’d unfortunately not picked the best location for a fae bar. Because across the street and two blocks down was a dingy little bar that was very popular with hunters passing through the Big Apple. Once they caught wind, Bridie knew it was time to skip town. Down on her investment and determined not to go home, she looked for a new spot that she could buy for cheap. She was going to try and do it right the second time.
She heard a rumor from a friend of a friend about a town in Maine. A town with plenty of fae, and plenty of unsuspecting mortals wandering in and out. And it just so happened that there was an empty venue available for incredibly cheap due to some silly rumor about the bathroom being haunted. Bridie bought it for a song, and opened up Wicked’s Rest’s hottest new nightclub, Tír na nÓg.
This time, she’ll have this thing in the bag.
Character Facts:
Personality: Colorful, adventurous, confident, fun-loving, friendly, careless, childish, impulsive, irresponsible, naïve
Both her parents work with music. Her father is a very popular singer in the Nashville music scene, and her mother toured for years as a dancer.
She can frequently be found not doing her actual job of managing her club and instead will be dj-ing. It’s the only way she can ensure everyone is having an amazing time.
When she says she listens to every genre of music, she means it.
In her unglamoured form, she has honey colored fur on goat legs, with little patches of white dotting her coat in irregular patterns, and curling horns that spiral back from her temples.

OMG you are in folk fairytales and legend Please can you tell me some of the cuteer ones you found even better if involving bears ? I loved interact with your OC too thanks fir joining and pls relax too from time to time and do not rush in answering me either 🙏🙏 I wish you a wonderful day 🤗🤗😘😘
Yesssss, I love them! Since a very young age I have been an avid reader/student of folklore, fairy tales, myths, and legends.
Below I talk more about my personal history/feelings on the topic, and end with my three favorite fairy tales. I hope they are “cute” enough for you!
But first I wanted to answer your question about stories featuring bears.
I tried to think of one in my memory where a bear played a prominent part, but turned up empty. I mean, yes, there is the standard “Goldilocks and the Three Bears”, but I assumed you wanted to hear about something off the beaten path.
So I dug around and found this one for you:
"The Bear in the Forest Hut".
Tumblr media
It is a Slavic folk tale about a prince who was cursed to take the shape of a bear, and the brave and kind woman who helped him out of that curse. She had the typical misfortune to have a stupid father and an ‘evil stepmother’ who tries to stop anything good from happening to the heroine.
I liked this one because there is plenty of detail about the trials and tests the girl goes through in order to earn the bear’s trust and break his curse. Even more unique is how the story doesn’t just end right when the curse is broken (like so many folk tales). Instead, it goes on at length about how the two get married, travel over his kingdom, and what happens to the stepmother and stepsister.
@queengiuliettafirstlady What are some of your favorite fairy tales and myths?
How did I come to love fairy tales so much?
I think I can trace it back to my godmother, who was an amazing storyteller. She was Irish, so most of the tales she told me came from the British Isles and dated back to the 12th Century or earlier. The stories I most vividly remember her telling me were about the 3rd Century charismatic (but slightly foolish) folk hero Finn MacCool (or Fionn mac Cumhaill) and his very very clever wife Sadhbh.
As I entered my preteen years (1990s, pre-internet era) a library was built within a 15 minute drive from our rural town. I had never had such a frequent exposure to books before that, except our small school library. My mom would take me to the new public library often and I devoured every book they had on fairy tales and legends.
When I started college, the trend of turning ancient folktales into modern, dark retelling had begun to rise in popularity. Not only was my backpack full of those every week, but now I also had access to scholarly papers through our inter-collegiate online system! I could read published research on people all over the world, those who retraced Charles Perrault’s steps, or compared similar narratives, or discovered a new translation of an old work. It was also during my college years that I discovered The Aaarne-Thompson-Uther index, which categorizes the plots and themes of fairy tales.
When I learned about Perrault and the ATU Index, it changed my self-image.
Of course kids like fairy tales, but we are expected to grow out of those stories as we mature. I still had a deep love of folklore and myths well into my 20s and that made me feel a little silly and childish. But when I discovered that Charles Perreault (a historian in the 17th Century) believed the stories being shared in the oral tradition were important enough to be written down for posterity, that boosted my spirits. And when I stumbled across the ATU Index (begun in 1910, and continues to be updated annually still to this day), which took fairy tales seriously as anthropological artifacts, I was vindicated even more.
These historical efforts were proof that folk lore, legends, and fairy tales weren't just for children.
This short article is a MUST-READ for anyone who wants to have their love for storytelling rekindled and get pumped up to talk about fairy tales. It’s all about hope and courage.  I especially appreciated the excerpt from Katherine Rundell when she talks about “the hope that is sharper than teeth”
As I studied more and more obscure stories from around the world, I soon had a list of my top 4 favorites that I came back to:
Katie Crackernuts
The Twelve Dancing Princesses
Beauty and the Beast
The Myth of the Selkie
The middle two I have owned a few printed copies of. They are quite common and have many retellings/variations. But Katie Crackernuts was a story I could only read online; I had never seen it in print.
There are actually similarities between parts of all three stories, which is probably why I love them so much.
I know you asked for ‘cute’ ones, but I don’t know if these really are that adorable. They all have happy endings for the heroines. Does that count? LOL
Tumblr media
Katie Crackernuts (collected by Andrew Lange, first printed 1889)
This is a Scottish story about two sisters, one plain but clever (Katie) and one beautiful but simple (Anne). Despite this difference, they loved and supported one another as much as two sisters could. Through no fault of her own, Anne was cursed (you guessed it, by an evil stepmother) with the head of a sheep (or sometimes a donkey or goat, depending on the version) because the stepmother was jealous of her beauty. Katie put a hood over Anne to disguise her and left the house together, never to return.
They eventually came to the kingdom where there was a sick prince. His parents offered rich rewards for anyone who could heal his mysterious disease. Katie knew there had to be a reason normal medicine wasn’t working. She thought perhaps he was under a curse, too. Yep, he was going out at night in a trance to go under a hill to dance with fairies. So she watched and listened and investigated until she discovered the cure and how to administer it. Turns out the way to lift her sister’s curse was under that hill, as well!
She out-smarted the fairies, collected the items from them, and followed the instructions precisely. He grew well and discovered he loved her during all their time together while she was patiently investigating. When she used the cure on her sister, Anne’s sheep head turned back into a human one and the prince’s brother fell in love with her on the spot (of course he did). It was a lovely double-wedding.
The Twelve Dancing Princesses (collected by the Brothers Grimm, first printed 1812)
This is about twelve sisters who are constantly tired and ruining their expensive shoes every night, and no one can find out why. The king has offered rich rewards and even marriage to the most beautiful of his daughters, but any man who steps up to the challenge either dies, fails the task, or is never seen again. Until one clever man (who has been watching this happen over and over) decides to try solving the mystery. The eldest sister (the most intelligent and haughty of the siblings) tries to stop him each time, but he outsmarts her as he follows the princesses into a fairy forest where they dance all night until their shoes fall apart and they drop from exhaustion.
Just like Katie in the story before, he is observant and waits until he has all the information and proof he needs to confront the princesses. He convinces the king, who is angry that his daughters were escaping every night. The man explains they were under a spell that compelled them to sneak out. The king offers him the most beautiful daughter (who is also the youngest and the most silly), but the man opts to marry the eldest because she was the only one who came close to matching wits.
Katie Crackernuts has much in common with The Twelve Dancing Princesses.
Both have very strict rules for entering into the world of fairies, and the “wasting sickness” that comes upon a human who spends too much time in that world (which is also a metaphor for other maladies that were rampant during those centuries, such as tuberculosis). I enjoy that theme of “Good luck if you’re beautiful because your looks won’t save you. You need to be wise, patient, and clever in this world.”
Beauty and the Beast
This was one of my favorites long before Disney made their movie. Almost everyone knows how the story goes, so I won’t make this long post even longer by summarizing it here. The bravery and selflessness of the heroine was very inspiring to me, and I loved the idea of being surrounded by talking furniture and not a single human! I was a very introverted kid. And I guess I loved the idea of a sad prince in an unloveable disguise who needed to feel loved.
Another thing I think is neat about that story is there is an actual author: Gabrielle-Suzanne de Villeneuve, published the story in 1740. Most folklore and fairy tales have a shared origin and no single creator. Not so for Beauty and the Beast. This one has a bonafide author, which makes it unique. Not only that, but the author was a woman!
What Beauty and the Beast has in common with Katie Crackernuts is charity, mercy, humility, and selflessness.
The heroine not only saves herself, but she saves those who are entrusted to her. Who needs a prince, right?? Katie didn’t have to leave home to take care of her cursed sister, but she did. She didn’t have to agree to help the sick prince, but she did. Belle didn’t have to sacrifice herself in her father’s place in that unreasonable pact, but she did. She could have been disagreeable, rude, and throwing herself a pity party the entire time she was captive in the Beast’s castle, but instead she did her best to keep her spirits up and not hate her captor. (Readers: don’t come at me with the whole “Stockholm Syndrome” comment trying to be witty; it’s an old joke that was never funny in the first place.) Katie also tried hard to make the best of an awful situation, and she was never resentful to Anne or put her on a guilt trip. I was inspired by the important values and virtues portrayed by these two heroines.
The Legend of the Selkie
You asked for ‘cute’ stories, but this last one is anything but cute. The Celtic legend of the Selkie is heartbreaking, and there is hardly ever a happy ending. I heard briefly about it as a kid, but never found a published story to read. The oral tradition of the tale goes back to the 13th Century, but it didn’t make it into many books. Then the movie The Secret of Roan Inish came out in 1995. I was 15 at the time and didn’t have my driver’s license yet, so I begged a family member to bring me to the only theater in the entire state that was showing this independent film, over an hour away. It was magical. I bought the DVD as soon as it was available. It was the only thing I could find at that time (remember, the internet wasn’t really used for entertainment in 1995 like it is now) that displayed the Selkie myth, which is:
There are some special seals in the sea who can shed their seal-skin and turn themselves into human women. They are beautiful, quiet, and hard-working. And therefore they are much sought-after as wives by the lonely fishermen of the islands. The legend says that if you find a Selkie in her human form and take her seal-skin away from her, she is yours for the rest of your life. You can imagine the life of servitude that awaits the poor woman! She is usually desperate to turn the house inside out looking for her seal skin and return to the sea, or if she doesn’t find it she will murder her husband.
Fascinating!
Oof, okay. That post went on really long. Sorry. When I start to talk about fairy tales and folklore, I have a difficult time keeping it short, lol. And I didn't even get into the Greek myths! Yikes.

Do the puppets ever make any other human friends? Like maybe they sneak out while Fionn is working and some kids see them (idk why there'd be unsupervised kids but whatever) and they don't think they're weird. Just oddly shaped, v colorful new friends. Except for frank who wants nothing to do with them (so he says)
Eventually they do, after the town has softened up to them! Frank has his scene/emo friends that kept him safe at the mall who surprisingly like to listen to his lectures, Eddie befriends the local post office staff, Howdy the local store owners, Poppy the elderly people she helps out, Julie some of the teachers at the schools, Sally and Barnaby the drama teachers and somehow the mayor, and Wally the kids in the art clubs he runs, as well as a mysterious fellow who seems to recognise him!

TBC 30 Day Challenge
Day 27: The most special visit to the City for you
One feature of my spreadsheet is that I have a row for Notes, and if any show in particular was absolutely spectacular, an unforgettable dreamlike experience, then I colour the Notes cell for that show gold. So I don't even have to think in order to have an immediate shortlist of highly viable candidates for this question!
But how do you choose between them? How do you choose between a wonderfully wonky jaunt around town with Ali Hades, and a FULL Sam Hades three-loop experience complete with 1:1s? How do you choose between a blissfully quiet Persephone show where every scrap of her attention was on you, and a traditionally busy Persephone show where you still got singled out from the crowd and had a wonderful loop 1 to boot? Am I meant to be able to pick between a perfect Polymestor loop complete with walk-through as well as walk-out, and a not-so-lonely Zagreus loop where my immersion was truly taken to the next level? Is it even possible to pick between a dreamy Aegisthus/Askalaphos show crowned by an exceptional Peep loop, and an invigorating Luba/Neoptolemus show that had me weeping and beaming for the entire journey home?
I guess the most Perfect show was the busy Persephone show mentioned above. Lily was Persephone, Ali was Hades, it was my most successful show following either character up until that point; I didn't lose anyone, I didn't get literally stolen away, I stayed on course throughout, all the way to those final moments in the hotel lobby! I also spent loop 1 with Fionn's incredible Oracle, and when he encouraged me to leave him and follow Agamemnon, I went over to Troy instead and was treated to an unexpected pre-Persephone Hades 1:1. For casting and for interactions and for getting the fullest experience possible, that show truly cannot be beaten
But then the most uniquely unrepeatable show was clearly my lonely Zagreus show. I had waited MONTHS to finally have a missing Eurydice show, and when I was actually invited to take her place for a little while, it was nothing short of absolutely dizzying. (Also I don't often mention it because it's a bit of a non-sequitur in most contexts, but that show was also the only time Tim ever blessed me with a 1:1, and it was Laocoön, so extra rare and special!)
But if I could relive just one show that best exemplified what I loved about the whole stupid affair, then the Aeggy/Skally/Peep show would be the one. My favourite Aegisthus (Ryan), a most belovèd Askalaphos (Luigi), a 1:1 from each, then a blissful hour with the Orpheus of my dreams (Lily), and just when we thought the show was over, she treated us to Life On Mars for her very first time. That show was The Burnt City for Me Specifically; without the high stakes of a Hades or a Persephone, or going the extra mile to blow my mind with a truly unique one-off experience, just a normal show with normal characters and only very little surprises, but playing out absolutely perfectly resulting in an EXCEPTIONAL evening in every possible way

⌝ The excited beagle rushed forward upon the scent of a familiar mortal, the young vampire girl trailing slowly behind the excited dog, the small being clearly unaffected by all that was going on in town. His paws leaped up when he reached Fionn, trying to immediately facilitate pats from the human who had, like the other humans in town, probably been gifted so much.
⌝ Bella, of course, looked somewhat terrifying, unable to hide her vampirism as she strolled along through the hallways of the estate, long robe dragging behind her bare feet. The slit where the robe crossed over itself revealing pallid porcelain like legs, no discolouration or hint of life to them, just like the rest of her skin. Her usual golden gaze was hidden in a sea of black ink and her fangs and talons had descended. Fortunately, the fangs did not prevent her from speaking.
⌝ "Fionn, the barista," she asserted while Boss begged for the man's attention. "What are you doing in my sire's home? You haven't got lost from a tour group have you?"
