GPF Torino 22 - Fear/Gibson - Free Dance
Elements:
StaLiRoLi 4+4 (time, but SOOOO much stronger than last outing) | Twizzles 4+4 | MiSt2+2 (much better speed, coverage and edges than i expect from them, could easily be 3s by the end of the season) | OFT 2+3 | DS4 | CuLi4 | Choreo Twizzle (+2.80) | ChSq (+) | Choreo Slide (+)
Program: Lady Gaga Medley
First off, for what I was able to watch, Lilah and Lewis were on fire. A lot of improvements in cleanliness and power were visible, and they could really give it a go at Europeans if they keep up this trajectory. They were still a little stiff and/or hesitant in some of their more difficult elements which held them back from getting 3s or higher in the levels, but the Twizzles and all of the Lifts were just *muah*, chefs kiss.
But second and most importantly, absolutely FUCK peacock. How fucking DARE YOU not only crap out the stream in the middle of a performance (that will never be available for replay or uploaded onto youtube), but in the middle of the Choreographic Step which is the HIGHLIGHT of the program. I'm so pissed -- not just for missing them, and the score, but knowing I'm probably gonna miss the entirety of Laurence and Nik too because Peacock is having technical difficulties and says "We'll be right back." which is a fucking LIE.
Why.... has the ice dance videography been SO! GOSH! DARN! BAD! this event?!?!? its the dang Grand Prix Final, these programs AREN'T new and neither are the elements or basic format of these programs!!! most of the teams use a fairly similar layout and positioning of the elements... which are all hella telegraphed.... so there's no reason to watch a lift zoomed out from the back row of the arena to only zoom into a shoulder as they are exiting... like come on....
Score: who the f knows, all I know is fuck fuck FUCK peacock.
Actually it was: 125.15 for a total of 200.90 into 1st

Wait, what? England refers to the London and co area and Britain is the whole island? I was so sure it was the contrary! So Welsh people are British?
This ask briefly made me crave unspeakable violence.
BUT THIS IS OF COURSE WRONG OF ME, because you're here and asking, so in the interests of education and to be super clear:
Tumblr media
These are the countries of the UK. England is just the bit in orange here look. It's one single country.
The United Kingdom is so named because it's a combo of more than one kingdom, aka several countries operating a Megazord (which it used to wage war on all but 22 other countries on the planet). Great Britain is roughly the same thing as the UK. It's not exactly the same - to be super correct, it's a geographical term rather than a political one and just refers to the landmass that is mainland UK, rather than Northern Ireland and the Crown Dependencies and all that jazz - but honestly, they get used increasingly interchangeably.
Crucially, though, as you can see on that map, England is a separate country from Wales, and Wales is a British country. If you have been calling us English, you need to cut that shit out right now, good lord you could get us all killed.
But! I have noticed a sharp uptick in Americans on this site trying to interact with my Celtophobia posts and saying sentences like "It's terrible how the British oppressed the Welsh", so this is well-timed. It's like everyone heard the sentiment "Stop saying England when you mean Britain" - which is used to try and stop Celtic erasure - and then rather than finding out the difference, they just assumed "England" is a Bad Word and the PC progressive term is "Britain", which... well. Points for trying I guess, but "Britain tried to stamp out the Welsh language by whipping children whose parents spoke Welsh" is a hell of a thing I have repeatedly had to read this year. And meanwhile, on the flip side, I still have to see "England/English politics" tagged onto my politics posts. I am a thousand years old. I am so tired.
Anyway, thank you for reaching out, friend!

Friends, I have failed you all. I've seen a lot of posts over the last week with a lot of great biographical detail about many of the flyers and aircrew who've been name-dropped so far in Masters of the Air - and I haven't seen a single thing about the one name that is directly in the center of this blog's lane.
In Part 2, returning from their mission to Trondheim, Cleven and Egan walk into the Interrogation hut and Egan accepts a cup of coffee from a woman he thanks as Tatty. Later on, at the dance, James Douglass remarks that he will be 'coming in hot' on one of the American Red Cross women on the other side of the room, and one of his friends asks "General Spaatz's daughter? Or the other one?"
Katherine "Tatty" Spaatz was a member of the American Red Cross Clubmobile service and the daughter of General Carl "Tooey" Spaatz, who commanded the Eighth Air Force on its move to England. (General Spaatz later moved to overall command of the entire Army Air Forces in the Europe Theatre of Operations, or ETO. He is, as the kids say, rather important.)
But we're not talking about him here. We're talking about her.
Tumblr media
Katherine was 22 years old when she arrived in Europe with the Red Cross. (One of her traveling companions that trip was Kathleen Kennedy, daughter of former U.S. Ambassador Joseph P Kennedy Sr., also coming to serve overseas with the ARC.)
The American Red Cross's mission in Europe had many facets during the Second World War - in addition to activities we might think of today, like collecting blood, providing disaster relief at home and running first aid seminars, they were responsible for collecting and distributing packages for Prisoners of War.
They also operated large canteens like the Rainbow Corner club, a recreational facility in London where soldiers on leave could get a room for the weekend, a bite to eat, and a number of other amenities. Smaller clubs called Donut Dugouts provided a space where a serviceman could always be assured of a cup of hot coffee, a donut, and a pretty girl to talk to, specially recruited for being friendly, fair, approachable, and specially trained to be the girl next door overseas. In addition to these more permanent installations, they also operated the Clubmobile service, a mobile version of their popular Dugouts that moved operations into retooled Green Line Bus Company buses to take donuts and a taste of home to the front line.
Tatty, as she was called, worked on the Clubmobile "North Dakota" along with Julia "Dooley" Townsend, Virginia "Ginny" Sherwood, and Dorothy "Mike" Myrick. Life Magazine did a full article on their clubmobile in February of 1943, which you can read online at the link. There is another lovely blog post with pictures here. She also worked for a time in a more permanent post at the USAAF base at Snetterton Heath, and was later sent to France. You can read a little bit more about her and see more pictures at her bio page at the American Air Museum in Britain website.
If you'd like more information about Tatty, Helen, and women like them, as well as the Clubmobile service, consider reading the following:
Slinging Doughnuts for the Boys by James H. Madison Battlestars & Doughnuts: World War II Clubmobile Experiences of Mary Metcalfe Rexford War through the Hole of a Donut, by Angela Petesch Goodnight, Irene (fiction) - Although this is a novel, it is based on Luis Alberto Urrea's mother's time as a Clubmobile worker and her personal papers.

Okay, so to start just a bit with the ghoap WW2 au, it takes place in the UK, (obviously.)
September, 1939.
Lieutenant Riley, a feared, yet respected man. He’s been in the military for years - since the first war. He’s worked his way up, seen comrades die, held them in their final moments, and mourned the losses. He has no family - an orphan since he was young. His father left, his mother passed when he was 5, leaving only him and his younger brother - Tommy. Unfortunately, Tommy died not long after their mother.
Simon worked, and he worked hard. He became a butcher in his teenage years, before being drafted at the ripe age of 18 (1920ish). One once he had been drafted, he made it his life’s mission to climb through the ranks. To serves his country, to aid in Great Britain’s success.
Private MacTavish. A Scottish lad - a young one, at that. Only 22, drafted and somehow ended in Simon’s unit. More and more were dying every single day - and there seemed to be no end in sight. Hearsay was all they were working with. Yet, the young Scot seemed dedicated. He had hardly seen the true horror of war - all it had to offer. All it had to take away. It reminded Simon of himself once upon a time, in a lot of ways.
Somehow, the measly private managed to stay alive. Worse, he managed to get close to his lieutenant, a man more than a decade and a half his senior.
October, 1941.
Just over two years after the second war began. The two began to seek solace in eachother. The now Sergeant MacTavish sharing his deepest thoughts with the lieutenant. Even going so far as to let him look in his Journal. The drawings of faces, those of colleagues both new and old, alive and dead, but one kept showing up.
Simon seemed to be a rather consistent muse for the Younger man. Strangely, the sergeant never seemed to shy away from getting the details just right. From the shrapnel scar that left the lieutenants lower cheek, jawline and neck scarred, and disfigured. There was a reason he tended to hide his face, whenever possible. But Johnny didn’t mind seeing it. He didn’t mind taking the time to detail it on his drawings.
The journal was full of thoughts. Drawings. Code and hidden meaning. The only person other than Johnny who could decode it? Simon, of course.
The two had grown close. Dangerously so. This wasn’t like Simon, to allow anyone to be so close. But Johnny? He managed to claw his way in.
OKAY THIS IS THE END FOR NOW, THANK YOU GIYS FOR READING SO FAR, AND ILL EVENTUALLY POST THE WHOLE THING MORE DETAILED AND STUFF, BUT FOR NOW, ENJOY!!!!

Random Doctor Who Facts You Might Not Know, Part 11
The Second Doctor traveled with Jamie again after his departure while working for the Time Lords. The reason he doesn't remember this is because the Time Lords regularly erased his memory.
The Ice Warriors were originally created as a slave race to serve the Gandorans.
Strax carries dehydrated water in his first aid kit.
Homunculette and Marie are a Time Lord/TARDIS duo who consider each other "companions" and have incredibly intense feelings about one another.
The sexual attraction to humans by non-humans is called humanophilia.
On four separate known occasions, the Doctor has been to the Frost Fair. He took Vicki and Steven, River, Clara, and Bill.
When Missy broke into the Black Archive, she "liberated" a good portion of their inventory, including her "good friend" TOMTIT.
Turlough's great-great-great-great grandfather was part of Trion's royal court.
James Lethbridge-Stewart was the Brigadier's older brother. At a young age, he was forced by the Great Intelligence in an act of revenge against the Brigadier's future self to jump to his death over Golitha Falls. The young Brigadier was too short to retrieve his body. Their memories of James were later removed by the Great Intelligence.
After the year 12,000,000, some humans evolved into Homo solarians and lived inside the sun.
Oswin "Winnie" Clarence, a splinter of Clara Oswald, was a research graduate at Snowcap University in Antarctica. She saved the Twelfth Doctor and Clara Oswald.
There have been many other splinters of Clara. A Constable Oswald filed a missing person's report on Susan Foreman in the 60s. Another was a member of the Happiness Patrol. Another was a Morestran. Etc, etc....
During an adventure with the Seventh Doctor, Chris Cwej had sex with a man named David Daniels. In doing so, he accidentally gave him a metagenic compound from the 30th century that acted as an HIV anti-virus. Harry Sullivan would later discover this compound in 2015 as a potential cure.
The Dragonhunters have a saying that "no Time Lord could be trusted."
The Doctor considered his cousin Arkhew to be inoffensive, gentle, and an unassuming. He said that such traits were "unusual for this family."
Arkhew had a pet scrubber, but his pet was eaten by another cousin named Owis. This made Arkhew hate Owis. Owis later killed Arkhew.
The Kithriarch is another important figure to a Great House. Unlike the Housekeeper, who is a medium between the sentient House and the family and responsible for the House's wellbeing, the Kithriarch is responsible for the social wellbeing of all family members.
The First, Sixth, Eleventh, and Thirteenth Doctors all meddled in the Gunpowder Plot.
Magnus Greel told the Fourth Doctor that he had encountered a Time Agent in the 51st century. Unbeknownst to the Fourth, Greel was referring to the Fifth Doctor, who had posed as a Time Agent.
The Doctor studied under Hippocrates.
The Chancellery Guard is issued a Gallifreyan Army knife. The Doctor had one, but it is marked as property of Castellan Spandrell. He eventually returned it to Spandrell.
The Eighth Doctor once ran into the Seventh Doctor and Ace at the Festival of Britain in 1951 but did not recognize them because he had amnesia at the time.
The Fourth Doctor once became a taxi driver in order to learn about history first-hand.
Raine Creevey was a companion of the Seventh Doctor, who actually assisted in her birth by midwife-ing her mother.

Driver's Ranked by Year
Ok, this is going to be a long one because I don't want to spam, so everybody buckle up
Disclaimer: This is not my personal ranking of the ships, this is purely based on how I view the historical event that takes place in the year that the numbers make up. I will happily further explain any of the events, my analysis of the events with the ship, and why I ranked them that way if anybody is interested. I tried to get a variety, but I am better with western history so there is more of skew towards western history. I have used both CE and BCE years to create more variety. As with everything with RPF, I do not believe any of these drivers are together and this is all in good fun, if you don't want to view it as ships view them as teammates! All images are pulled from google.

GPF Torino 22 - Fear/Gibson
Elements:
Twizzles 4+4M | MiSt 2+3 | PS3 | RoLi4 (I love this lift, but the goe is a lot lower than it could be because the ice coverage wasn't what it normally is) | CRS (+5.25)
Program: Jennifer Lopez medley
Really solid work from Lilah and Lewis today. They definitely need to do a lot of reps, cleaning and tightening of their choreo (and especially arm movements and the rotations in twizzles/lift) before Euros and Worlds, but this is a great program for them and they are SO on the right track heading into the rest of the season. Also, unless I am completely forgetting some really baller ones, I definitely think this is by far THE BEST Latin Rhythm Dance to come out of IAM this year.
Holy cow did Mattieu add MORE stones to Lilah's dress??? It looks so good on Lilah and really pops on the ice. (also I know I just said I hate black on black non matching mens costumes, but this slutty v and mesh not only works for Lewis, but it definitely fits the JLo and Marc Anthony vibe)
Score: 80.75 into 1st (hmmmm even though the levels were all the same as H/B, I definitely thought their GOE and PCS would put them at least at an 81.5)

Researchers and monster hunters are gathering in the United Kingdom's Scottish Highlands this weekend to look for the eternally elusive Loch Ness Monster, the biggest search for the legendary beast in more than 50 years.
Somewhere beneath the shimmering surface of Loch Ness lies Nessie, the legendary sea beast whose reputation spans nearly 1,500 years — at least, that's what monster hunters and Nessie enthusiasts from around the world hope to prove Saturday and Sunday.
The Loch Ness Centre and the research group Loch Ness Exploration are asking all aspiring monster hunters to join in on the biggest search since 1972.
"Our purpose is to observe, record and study the natural behaviour of the Loch and phenomena that may be more challenging to explain," the Loch Ness Exploration Facebook page reads.
"If you believe that the Loch Ness Monster exists then we invite you to join the search, we equally invite you to support the study of the Loch and the natural behaviour of the elements that may be the root cause of these strange reports from Loch Ness."
Investigators are breaking out all sorts of technology, including surveying equipment the Loch Ness Centre says has never been used on the freshwater lake before.
Drones with infrared cameras will fly over the lake and a hydrophone will be used under the surface to detect "Nessie-like calls," the Centre says.
Volunteers will also participate in a large surface watch of the loch, scanning the surface for any irregularities.
However, due to an "overwhelming demand" from enthusiasts, the group is no longer accepting applicants hoping to participate in person.
But the Loch Ness Centre says those still eager to participate can do so virtually through a livestream.
At 22 square miles and with a maximum depth of 788 feet, Loch Ness is Great Britain's largest lake by volume and second-largest by surface area, according to Encyclopedia Britannica.
Though the first written accounts of a monster are attributed to the Irish monk Saint Columba's encounter in 565 A.D., reports of a creature in the lake are depicted in ancient stone carvings found in the area.
But the legend of a monster lurking in the loch didn't garner greater attention until April of 1933, when a couple driving along the newly built road around the lake saw an animal they compared to a "dragon or prehistoric monster," according to the Scottish Maritime Museum.
More sightings soon followed, and big game hunter Marmaduke Wetherell was commissioned to track the monster down in December of 1933.
He said he found large tracks along the shoreline, but zoologists at the Natural History Museum debunked the tracks.
The following year was when English physician Robert Wilson took a photo, now known as the "Surgeon's Photograph," which appeared to show Nessie's head atop a long slender neck poking out of the water.
The picture was printed in the Daily Mail and the Loch Ness Monster was thrust into international stardom.
One of the participants in that search confessed on his deathbed that the picture was staged, according to the Daily Mail.
The Loch Ness Centre says there have been more than 1,140 official Nessie sightings.
Paul Nixon, the Centre's general manager, said he's excited to see what turns up after the waters are searched like never before over weekend.
"We are guardians of this unique story," Nixon said.
"And as well as investing in creating an unforgettable experience for visitors, we are committed to helping continue the search and unveil the mysteries that lie underneath the waters of the famous Loch."

Physique: Average Build Height: 6′ 0½″ (1.84 m)
Mark Anthony Peter Phillips CVO ADC OLY (born 22 September 1948) is an English Olympic gold medal-winning horseman for Great Britain and the first husband of Anne, Princess Royal, with whom he has two children. He remains a leading figure in British equestrian circles, a noted eventing course designer, and a columnist for Horse & Hound magazine. He also remains a leading figure in British equestrian circles and serves as Chef d'Equipe of the United States Eventing Team.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Phillips was educated at Stouts Hill Preparatory School near Uley, Gloucestershire, then at Marlborough College, then the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards in July 1969, retiring at the rank of captain in 1978. Alongside his military career, Phillips became a champion equestrian. He continued to style himself Captain Mark Phillips, as it is usual for retired cavalry captains to keep using their rank if their civilian job involves working with horses in racing or equestrian sports.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Twice married, Phillips first married Princess Anne on 14 November 1973, together they have two children. They separated in 1989 and, eventually, divorced in 1992 after years of marital strain with reported affairs by both. These problems came to light and entered the public eye when Phillips fathered a love child in 1985. In 1997, Phillips married an American Olympic dressage rider, divorcing in 2012 due to Mark's infidelity, together they had a daughter. Now it looks like he's banging another American equestrian. Damn… I need to get into horses so he could get into me.

I know that Washington fought in the Seven Years War and had a few fuckups therein, but how did he cause it? Don't think I've ever heard that part.
So, before the Seven Years' War, most of the land west of the Appalachian Mountains up to the Mississippi River was nominally claimed by the French as "New France". Realistically, France had a handful of towns and outposts along the Mississippi, Great Lakes, and St. Lawrence Rivers. Most of the land was actually inhabited by the native peoples, with only 75,000 French people inhabiting what is now called the Mid-West.
Meanwhile, east of the Appalachians was the Thirteen Colonies, which was home to 1.5-2 million people. And they wanted to expand. So, British colonists and traders began to venture into Ohio, which was claimed by France.
French Colonists responded by sending in their military to drive off and capture British colonists in Ohio, and to build fortifications to prevent them from coming back.
The Governor of Virginia had invested in the efforts to settle Ohio, so he sent a 21-year-old Lieutenant Colonel by the name of George Washington to give the French commander an order to leave. Washington met the commander, a guy named Jacques Legardeur de Saint-Pierre, and gave him the order, which Saint-Pierre ignored.
Washington went back to Virginia. However, on his way back, two things happed:
Saint-Pierre was relieved of command by Claude-Pierre Pécaudy de Contrecœur
The Governor of Virginia sent a small group of soldiers to build a fort in Ohio.
Washington was basically immediately sent back with 40 men, picking up a group of 12 warriors from an allied group of natives along the way. His orders were to stop any attempts to prevent the building of the Fort, through lethal force if necessary.
Meanwhile, De Contrecoeur came across the British fort with a much larger force of 500 men, forced the British out, and bought their construction equipment to finish building the fort for France.
Washington and his men, after learning of the French forcing out the group they were supposed to reinforce, came across a 35-man scouting party of the main force.
And Washington launched an ambush.
Most of the French were captured or killed.
This became known as The Battle of Jumonville Glen. Named after Joseph Coulon de Villiers, Sieur de Jumonville, leader of the French scouting party, who was killed at the site.
Washington retreated away from the French, and constructed a fort in Ohio called Fort Necessity. A month later, after both sides were reinforced, a force of 600 French, Canadien, and Native soldiers launched an attack on Fort Necessity.
They were led by Captain Louis Coulon de Villiers. Joseph's older brother. He wanted revenge for his brother.
The Battle of Fort Necessity ended in Washington's surrender, whereupon he signed a document in French (which he could not read) that said he had assassinated Joseph Coulon. Washington and his forces were allowed to then leave back to Virginia.
Washington's superiors reneged on the terms of Washington's surrender, declaring they would not release the prisoners Washington had taken, and instead began more military incursions into France's claimed territory.
And so a war began between France and Britain in North America because a 22-year old George Washington was told "kill 'em if you have to" and followed through with that, unfortunately managing to kill the little brother of a guy who could raise a bigger army than Washington.
This later escalated when France attacked British holdings in the Mediterranean two years later (in order to exchange them to Spain for help with the war), which kicked off the Seven Years' War in earnest.
