Death and Loss - Tod und Verlust

There are dates that are consciously remembered - for me, December 8th, 1980 is one of them. On this day John Lennon was murdered. If you were born in the 60s, you automatically grew up with the Beatles, who helped shape the 60s and 70s with their music, character and style. I liked their music - which hasn't changed to this day. As a young teenager, I really felt loss and grief for the first time in my life - because of John Lennon‘s death. Back then, out of sentimentality, I put a candle in the window and listened to Beatles and Lennon songs for hours.

In the course of life you are confronted with death and loss again and again - be it pets or your own parents. I'm generally not afraid of death - maybe also because I've already had and still have a pretty good life. And death is often harder for those left behind.

Es gibt Daten, an die man sich bewusst erinnert - für mich gehört der 8. Dezember 1980 dazu. An diesem Tag wurde John Lennon ermordet. Wenn man in den 60igern geboren ist, wächst man automatisch mit den Beatles auf, die die 60iger und 70iger mit ihrer Musik, ihrem Charakter und Stil mitgeprägt haben. Ich mochte ihre Musik - woran sich bis heute nichts geändert hat. Als noch junger Teenager fühlte ich zum ersten Mal im Leben Verlust und Trauer - wegen dem Tod von John Lennon. Ich habe damals aus Sentimentalität eine Kerze ins Fenster gestellt und stundenlang Beatles- und Lennon-Songs gehört.

Im Lauf des Lebens wird man immer wieder mit Tod und Verlust konfrontiert - seien es Haustiere oder die eigenen Eltern. Ich habe generell keine Angst vorm Tod - vielleicht auch, weil ich bereits ein recht gutes Leben hatte und immer noch habe. Und der Tod ist oft auch schwerer für diejenigen, die zurückbleiben.
