AN OPEN LETTER to THE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
Pass H.R. 6270, the State-Based Universal Health Care Act!
371 so far! Help us get to 500 signers!
I strongly urge the Congressmember to support and help pass H.R. 6270, the State-Based Universal Health Care Act, introduced by Rep. Ro Khanna of California. This bill helps states test universal health plans that could be a model for a national plan - a Universal, Simple, and Affordable (USA) plan. A USA plan will drastically reduce administrative overhead, freeing billions of dollars for our health care and general welfare. With your support, states can save money and provide health care for all their residents. How H.R. 6270 moves us toward health care that is universal, simple, and affordable (USA): Mandates that participating states guarantee healthcare coverage for at least 95% of residents in the first 5 years, thus reducing the uninsured and underinsured populations to less than 5% (currently 30% in most states). Requires any state-based plan to have benefits equal to or greater than those received by beneficiaries of federal healthcare programs. Allows states to cooperate on multi-state plans. Section 1332 of the ACA does not. Enables states to integrate Medicare funds into a state plan. Section 1332 does not. This is critically important for equity. Please work to pass this bill, and then get to work passing Medicare For All. Nothing else will fully solve our healthcare crisis.

“If anyone needs to go camping in my state…” “If anyone needs to visit their aunt/cousin/friend…”
STOP. STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP.
FOR YOUR SAFETY, S T O P.
Tumblr media
DO NOT VOLUNTEER TO HOST RANDOM STRANGERS. DO NOT AGREE TO BE HOSTED BY A RANDOM STRANGER.
DO NOT PUBLICLY POST THAT YOUR HOUSE WILL BE AN ABORTION SAVE HAVEN. OFFICIAL NETWORKS TO DO THIS ALREADY EXIST, NETWORKS THAT HAVE THE ABILITY TO BACKGROUND CHECK, AND SHIELD THEIR VOLUNTEERS FROM LAW ENFORCEMENT.
Even IF you personally know every person you’re offering this to and know with 100% certainty that they’re legit: YOU HAVE JUST CREATED A POTENTIALLY LEGALLY DAMNING DIGITAL PAPER TRAIL.
I know how obnoxious this is to say, but please: reblog this. I see these posts a lot, and I know most of you have good intentions. But these unoffical auntie networks are dangerous, both for those trying to help, and those seeking help. Law enforcement sees you. Violent anti-abortion extremists see you.

So like, how does being trans work anyhow? I’ve tried to research stuff myself (by googling like fifty different things) but I still have like no idea what happens??? Like I’ve heard about HRT but I have no clue how someone would go about that?
Asking cuz I read your comics a bunch and your parents remind me of my parents
Your question seems confused so I'm gonna section off what I'm seeing.
1) being trans is identifying with a gender one was not assigned at birth. If you're AMAB (assigned male at birth) for instance, identifying as a woman or non-binary, etc would make you transgender.
2) transitioning is the process by which someone changes physical and/or social characteristics about themselves to better align with their gender identity. The ways to go about this range a lot- HRT (hormone replacement therapy), laser hair removal, clothing choices, haircuts, new names, and any number of treatments related are included.
3) The way you go about acquiring HRT is going to depend on your age, location, access to insurance, and access to healthcare. In medical establishments, there's 2 main ways its acquired
1. Informed consent - the doctor explains the risks and expectations and you consent to receiving the medication(s).
2. Diagnosis care - a therapist finds you experience gender dysphoria and believes you to be transgender and writes you a letter in order for your doctor to prescribe HRT.
You'll need to research your country and/or local area for what's legal and available.
There's a 3rd option, which is DIY, but it's usually considered a last option due to the involvement one needs to have in order to do it safely.
That's not even going into social transition, which may consist of changing your name, establishing pronouns that align with your identity, sharing your gender identity, etc
Anyways, i hope this answers all your questions and helps you out!

A new development shaping up in Toronto's Canary District area will soon serve Toronto's Indigenous community with a purpose-built hub offering residential, commercial, health and child care uses.
The new Indigenous Hub is well under construction at the southeast corner of Cherry Street and Front Street East, completing a western gateway to the recently built neighbourhood.
Occupying Block 10 of the West Don Lands — land that sat idle for decades before being developed as an athlete's village for the 2015 Pan Am Games — the new Indigenous Hub is one of the final plots of lands being developed in this newly-invigorated area.
The team of developers Dream Unlimited, Kilmer Group, Tricon Residential, and Anishnawbe Health Toronto is bringing a complex of 13-, 11- and 5-storey mixed-use complex containing condos, rentals, and a community health centre to the neighbourhood.
Construction of the Indigenous Hub began in mid-2021, and after over two years of work, the project's design — from a team of architects that includes firms Stantec, BDP Quadrangle, and the Indigenous-led Two Row Architect — is finally emerging. [...]

Trudy Ring at The Advocate:
Planned Parenthood must turn over some records on transgender health care to Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey, a judge has ruled. Bailey, a Republican, is investigating providers of gender-affirming care in the state, which has outlawed the provision of such care to minors and certain adults. His demand for information from Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri came in March 2023 as part of his investigation of whether Washington University’s Pediatric Transgender Center or other health care entities in Missouri “have engaged in or are engaging in any practices declared to be unlawful,” as he stated in a letter to Planned Parenthood. The Planned Parenthood affiliate then sued Bailey in an attempt to block his demand, saying it was unauthorized and that the attorney general hadn’t shown how Planned Parenthood is directly involved in his investigation. Bailey argued that his request “should stand because he has an affidavit that alleges intentional dishonesty in Plaintiff's medical and billing practices,” St. Louis Circuit Judge Michael Stelzer wrote in his ruling. Ruling in Bailey’s favor, Stelzer said the AG’s office has “broad investigative powers” and that Bailey has the right to obtain any documents that aren’t protected by the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, which provides for patient privacy.
Missouri AG Andrew Bailey (R) has been granted snooping powers on Planned Parenthood of St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri's records for transgender health services.

Obviously, the Alabama Supreme Court actually putting fetal personhood into law is another victory for creeping Christian Authoritarianism and yet another attack on health care, womens' rights, and bodily autonomy....but watching the Republicans flip their shit now that IVF clinics are in danger of closing is hilarious in a "the clown car is on fire" kind of way.
Because of course this was going to happen. Fetal personhood and anti-surrogacy (especially in the context of same-sex parents) has been bouncing around in conservative religious and legal circles (but what's the difference?) for decades, with those pesky liberals warning about it for just as long. Anyone with an inkling of awareness of the issue could have seen it coming.
So the fact that they were caught so off guard is myopic enough. And they're panicking for a very good reason, because yanno who generally goes to IVF clinics?
The people who can afford it.
Certainly the abortion bans in various states were bad, but if you had a lot of disposable income you could just...go to another state. Extremely inconvenient, yes, but not insurmountable. But this?

Oh my god, now the far-right pro-life politics that you've been cultivating for going on fifty years is now in a position to affect people with money? People that matter? Now you have to try and contend with the very extremist judges you installed that don't have to worry about getting elected and whose decisions are now putting you on the political chopping block?
Join us the in misery you're created for everyone else, assholes.

Just a reminder that if you ever feel a lump or unusual pain in your chest/breasts you should get it checked out just to be safe. Especially if it’s been there for more than a day or two or is causing you discomfort, it’s good to ensure it’s not serious or that if it is you can get the right treatment. Trust your body to know when something is off!

I'm convinced most sites who publish those "best countries for disabled people" "most accessible countries/cities" type articles have never actually spoken to a disabled person or been to the places they're saying are so great.
So much of the time they'll prattle off a place that is NOT accessible at all, like saying Japan is soooo accessible and one of the Best countries for disabled people because their trains have wheelchair ramps and designated wheelchair spots on the train. But you look at travel posts by wheelchair users and they're like "the trains are the only accessible part of Japan btw most restaurants are on the 2nd or 3rd floor, no elevator, and you have to leave your wheelchair Outside The Building. Everything has steps and the stone paths are inaccessible." Article listed Italy as one of the top 20 disability friendly countries in the world, citing their work to make places accessible, yet I JUST watched an Italian wheelchair user say that Italy is largely inaccessible and he can't live independently there as of 2023.
Like? What is going on. 😭 How exactly are we determining the "accessibility" of such places? Are we just believing the travel brochures or something?

Today, over 32 states have banned or severely restricted abortion. Featuring the work of over 30 artists, writers, inkers, and colorists, Won't Back Down is an important anthology that celebrates women who fight for justice-for anyone interested in women's rights, free speech, or simply great comics. I attempted to ask my parents if I could go to therapy last night because I suspect that I may have undiagnosed ADHD.
My Dad scoffed, as if annoyed, and said “If anyone has difficulty doing anything nowadays it’s because of some mental something or other.”
- Says the man who I’ve suspected for years to be an undiagnosed autistic or other sort of neurodivergent. (Not that I’d ever say that aloud because God forbid.)
And I was so stunned and hurt that I all of my points/arguments left my brain.
Just- imagine being so close yet so far away from the POINT.
And my Mom was hardly any better. She shut me down by saying how “everyone struggles to focus on things they’re not interested in,” and “Well that’s part of your Asperger’s!”
… This is exactly why I’ve grown to HATE being a so-called “high functioning” autistic person. Any time I bring up wanting to go to therapy for unrelated issues it gets either brushed off or forgotten about because I’m “high functioning” and I don’t externalize my mental health symptoms like my sibling does (and therefore it isn’t an embarrassment or inconvenience) so it isn’t an issue and I must be fine.
Maybe I should just explode. Drink. Smoke something. Scream. Break some shit. Let my grades drop. THEN could I get some therapy? (Not that I would ever actually do any of that but sometimes I feel like that’s what it would take for my parents to take me seriously when I say I’m not ok.)
-Anyway. Just figured if anywhere would have people who understand this experience, it would be on Tumblr.
