Soulmate AU, part 2. You've met your soulmate, but when will you see him again?

After meeting your soulmate, Yuri Plisetsky, under very unfortunate circumstances (involving a great deal of swearing, fumbling, and sprinting for your life), you crash into the competition venue.

(“Am I late?”

“Yep.”

“SHIIIIT.”)

Thankfully, your coach is reasonable, and reduces your late penalty after you stammer your way through your explanation. You join the team in warming up, desperately trying to shake the image of golden hair and viridian eyes. It takes you a lot of willpower, but when the competition itself starts, you throw yourself into it.

Your team does well, and you're in good spirits by the time you're back at the hotel. As the day begins to wind down, you check your phone. No new messages. It's nearly 8 PM, so you deliberate for a moment before dropping him a text instead.

You quickly send a reply, and call your coach to ask about free days. After some negotiating, you agree to meet in two days.

Those two days end up feeling like very long ones. You're nervous but also excited, and the apprehension keeps you awake. Sleep finds you eventually, but only after what feels like forever.

Yuri meets you in the lobby of your hotel, the two of you wincing in sync when your marks sting for that split-second. He looks stunning, and you feel self-conscious for a moment. You didn't have many clothes options, considering you didn't need much casual wear for a competition, but he doesn't seem bothered. He takes your hand, tentatively, and you squeeze back with a smile.

"Where are we going?"

"There's a park nearby, I thought that would be a good place to do the mark changing thing."

The park was beautiful. It wasn't secluded by any means, so you'd have spectators, but that hopefully wouldn't matter. You sat down side by side on a park bench and put your wrists together, looking at the neat, typewritten font for the last time.

Yuri offered to go first, holding out his wrist and his phone to film. You brushed your thumb across the writing on his wrist, and you both watched in fascination as it changed. When the final mark was revealed, though, you cringed a little.

"Yikes, sorry, you probably didn't want my terrible handwriting on your wrist…"

He snickered. "Mine's worse, trust me."

He handed the phone to you and you took it from him, watching as he lightly brushed a fingertip over the familiar ink. The cyrillic characters changed, now slightly slanted and uneven in places, but no less beautiful. You stopped filming and looked up at him. It still felt so unreal.

You sat there for a while, making small talk, before you decided to find somewhere to eat. On the way, however, you're interrupted by squealing and Yuri pulls you into a back alley, cursing. You're bewildered and confused, so he explains very quietly that he's a professional figure skater with a feral fanclub. Your head is spinning, but you need to do something, right? Yuri mentioned they were incredibly persistent, so you'd need a solution, ASAP. They wouldn't know who you were, right? You could just walk out now and they wouldn't pounce on you? That might be useful. You whispered a plan to Yuri.

Stepping out of the alley alone, one of Yuri's "Angels" rushed up to you, showing you a picture of Yuri. "Have you seen him?" You pretended to ponder for a moment, before pointing them in the direction opposite your destination. You held your breath as the girl said something to the (concerningly large) group of angels, and then the whole horde of them dashed off. Well, wasn't that an interesting phenomenon.

Yuri emerged soon after, and you made your way to a small restaurant, and made it through dinner without further disruptions. The two of you were still a little awkward, but surviving a horde of feral fangirls tends to bring people together.

At the end of the night, he walked you back to the hotel, and as you were about to head in, you leaned over to kiss his cheek, before turning to leave. When you reached your room, you checked your phone.

You smiled. Sure, Russia had crazy weather, crazy locals, and crazy fangirls, but you'd finally found your soulmate. Maybe it wasn't so bad after all?
