Abstract challenge 66 - February/March 2023
"Liquids"
"Better late than never", they say. And we agree. Let's start a new challenge. And since it's already mid-February, we will keep it going through all of March, too. So it's six weeks of "Liquids" because "Liquids" is what this challenge is about.
We want to see abstract photos of "liquids" or that have to do with liquids, we want to see reflections, distortions, colours. We want to see water and oil and milk and soda and whatever else you can come up with. And we are very curious about what you all will come up with. Because there are TONS of ways to interpret this challenge. And that is another reason why we keep it going for six weeks.
Please use any technique you want to use. All is fine, as long as it's abstract and it includes liquids of some sort.
Above, you see three examples made by our blog's members. As always, you can find more inspiration in our archives. If you want us to consider your photo (or set): simply post it to your blog and use the tag “abstract-challenge” as one of the first five tags so that we can find it. If you prefer, you can also submit your photo to @abstract-challengenge. Of course, all the past challenges are still running, so if you have something for them, don’t hesitate to share them.

How a cup of water can unlock the secrets of our universe
Researchers from Queen Mary University of London have made a discovery that could change our understanding of the universe. In their study published in Science Advances, they reveal, for the first time, that there is a range in which fundamental constants can vary, allowing for the viscosity needed for life processes to occur within and between living cells. This is an important piece of the puzzle in determining where these constants come from and how they impact life as we know it.
In 2020, the same team found that the viscosity of liquids is determined by fundamental physical constants, setting a limit on how runny a liquid can be. Now this result is taken into the realm of life sciences.
Fundamental physical constants shape the fabric of the universe we live in. Physical constants are quantities with a value that is generally believed to be both universal in nature and to remain unchanged over time—for example the mass of the electron. They govern nuclear reactions and can lead to the formation of molecular structures essential to life, but their origin is unknown. This research might bring scientists one step closer to determining where these constants come from.
