He raises a hand to clap Steve on the shoulder. Steve seizes his wrist and Tony freezes mid-motion, body half turned away from Steve, making to leave. His facial features, previously twisted into frenzied laughter, slowly melt back into a carefully constructed impassive mask.

“Tony,” Steve calls, voice splintering at the last syllable. He stares imploringly at Tony, who still refuses to look at him, gaze trained at the ground. Taking a deep breath, he lets his fingers curl tighter around Tony’s wrist, and finally throws caution to the wind: “You’re in love with me.”

A while ago, I wrote wanting was enough for the lovely @t0nystark1er after they won my Marvel Trumps Hate 2020 auction. To my surprise, a few months ago, they approached me again telling me that they had commissioned an artwork from the talented @zappedbysnow​. The commission was for an artwork of any scene from the fic — my choice. To say that I was touched and honored is a massive understatement. I was so grateful that they liked the fic enough to commission an artwork for it, and that on top of that, they had commissioned an artwork from a SteveTony artist whose work I happen to absolutely adore. Finally, I decided to go with this particular scene from the fic. It’s a scene that I thought of as the “climax” of the fic, a moment that marked a turning point in Steve and Tony’s relationship within the story. I still like the scene a lot, and I thought Snow did a brilliant job of capturing the tension between Steve and Tony in that moment. Their facial expressions are so vivid and accurate, like they were pulled straight out of my imagination. The nervousness on Steve’s face, the way he felt so terrified but still decided to soldier on. The lines of Tony’s face taut with tension, body half-turned away as he moved to leave, his eyes downcast as he avoided Steve’s gaze. Their height difference, Steve’s firm grip around Tony’s wrist. I could honestly go on and on about how much I love this piece. Thank you so much to the lovely @t0nystark1er​ for bidding on me during MTH 2020 and for commissioning an artwork for the fic. Thank you to the talented @zappedbysnow​ who poured hours upon hours into this masterpiece, constantly keeping me updated throughout the whole process, and being patient with me and my many requests and frequent lapses in communication.

Steve frowned and thought, only a little aggravated, that he should have just let Tony rent them the private island like he wanted.

Down in the valley, the lights went off, all of Grand going dark at once as if someone had flipped a giant switch.

Steve braced both hands against the railing and scanned the rest of the valley. There were only a handful of lit areas and he watched them blink out as well, not quite in succession, but flickering out within seconds of each other until the entire valley looked empty and abandoned.

Power failure, Steve thought, but his gut was already churning and he drew in a sharp breath. He had no idea what he’d been expecting to happen, but something told him it had already started.

“Phone’s out,” Tony said from behind him. “No signal on either phone. Considering I can see a cell tower on the next mountain over, I’m going to go out on a limb and say something’s up.”

At the far end of the deck, something moved. It was darkness in shadows, black on black and he lost track of it as soon as he tried to focus.

“Something’s out here with us.” He took two quick steps backwards, reaching out behind him. His hand found the warm skin of Tony’s arm and closed around it. “Back inside, quickly. Stay behind me.”

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected? About what I expected I think; I wrote only a bit more than last year. I realized in the last third? I think? of the year I was close to 1 million words, which is definitely more than I ever thought I'd write in total.

What’s your own favorite story of the year? This is tougher to answer this year! Mostly because I wrote a whole bunch of one-shots that I love. I might have to go with A Good Man Is Hard To Find, because I'm always partial to my long AUs.

Do you have any writing goals for the New Year? Last year's—> "Maybe try to produce more one-shots and fics under 15k words." Hey! I did that! Thanks in large part to a couple of times I solicited prompts on tumblr, so thanks to all of you! This year, I don't think I really have any specific goals. I want to complete a few large multichapter fics, which will probably mean my one-shot production goes down, but we'll see.

Did you take any writing risks this year? Same as last year, jumping into an active new fandom, always nerve wracking, etc. I also began drawing and produced an illustration for one of my stories for the first time (Double Dutch with a Hand Grenade).

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Sticking to those published this year, Sun in the Sky (You Know How I Feel) (I really thought that one would gain more traction).

Most fun story to write: Consider the Price to an Elf (Illya as an elf was too much fun), Class(room) Warfare, Loving You is Cherry Pie

Biggest disappointment: I've had some ups and downs with writing this year, but I'm trying to get better about managing my expectations and not getting disappointed when things don't get as many kudos or comments as I was expecting.

Biggest surprise: Very recent, but so far the spike in kudos that The Life You Had in Mind got after Glass Onion got released on Netflix. Crossovers usually are doomed to low kudos overall, so the response is so great! I even had someone read the fic not knowing anything about TMFU, which was a lovely comment to get.

15. What WIP are you taking into next year with you?

hahaha well all of them. all the unfinished WIPs languishing in my notebook and OneDrive folder, haunting me. also taunting me. but my first priority is to actually type up the damn notebooks so they're actually backed up oh my god and so I have a better idea which fics I think might be sort of almost finished are actually sort of almost finished, and after that the priorities will be 1) a 2020 MTH fill oops, 2) anything that is really, genuinely almost done, and 3) anything that would ideally be finished and posted before Loki S2 comes out (I don't have anything really, actually speculative, but I do have a few set in the post-S1 blank space that will feel weird to write once I know what happens after the finale).

30. Biggest surprise while writing this year?

ummm. well, I just realized that although I published at least one "adventures of tiny Loki and Thor" photo (which is a chapter on AO3) every month, I otherwise finished and posted literally just one fic so far this year, so...that doesn't feel great.

Not at all! On the contrary, I find it interesting and healthy to be able to talk about such topics, more so that I completely understand where you're coming from, since I've got the same worries.

To expend briefly on what you've mentionned (overworked part), I found quite interesting the declarations of Pau Torres' (player for Spanish NT).

Essentially, Torres explains that after the Euro 2021 (june - july 2021), during the Olympics (july - august 2021), the Spanish NT didn't had an adapted alimentation that high-level athletes should have. Thrown into this, you have to consider Pedri's situation : at 18, he :

he's already a regular starter for the first team and is so since he was 17 ;

during the 2020 - 2021 season, he's the player having disputed the most match, ahead of Leo Messi, Frenkie de Jong or Alba ;

he's the second youngest player to get to 50 games (18 yr 5 mths), second only to Bojan.

So you have, in the start of the 2021-2022 season, a 18 year old used to death by both his club and his national selection.

What Torres explains is that he (Torres), upon returning to Villarreal after the eventful 2021 summer (2 international tournaments, and a weak alimentation during the latest) , his coach (Emery) refused to get him back in the first group, despite Torres' insistance, arguing that he needed mandatory rest after coming back from such long international duty.

Meanwhile, guess what happens to young, juvene Pedri upon returning ? He gets one week after the Olympics, before being merrily trusted back onto the pitch because of his essentiality to the first team. Getting out of a 60+ games season, following up on a national duty and getting only one week to rest, as a 18 years old, is insanity. His injuries' history checks:

He made his debut for Barcelona in 2020. No injuries whatsoever during this 2020 - 2021 period : they only start coming on September 2021 and hardly stop.

So, with all that in mind, here's my lukewarm take : it's easy to fall on him for his supposed weakness of constitution (some players are prone to this and we know it). However, I do think that this is a 20 year old who put his health in danger during a whole ass season for both his club and national team and that he isn't prone to anything when given the time.

Imo with the recruitment we've had and players like Fermin coming up, we should let Pedri fall back into his rythm at his own pace, let him all the time he needs to recover, in other words use him mindfully. Of course Fermin isn't him but we did a stupendous match in El Clasico without him and I do think that we could work out smth like that. Alimentation and strength training in the gym are of course important but the way he's used by the club and recovery time even more so.

I do agree with you on a certain level tho; I think this 2023 - 2024 season is crucial toward this issue. If the injuries don't stay at bay then yeah, we got a Dembele/Bojan/Umtiti case, that 2020/2021 season most likely fucked him up entirely (cause in the end, that's what really is being discussed here: whether he can fully recover and go back to his previous form or if it's already too late). With our financial problems, a sale should be seriously considered, soon so that his value doesn't completely lessens — hence the whole 2023-2024 importance in my eyes. That's why for now I'm not too worried, just really curious and hopeful as to how this season will go. Hoping the coaching of Xavi, Pedri's own preparation, Fermin's development and the dynamics of the team pay off.

Hi there, gorgeous! ❤ Your WIP game post was one of the first things I saw after I had to wake up before the ass crack of dawn for my job (it's currently 4:22 am, actually), and I couldn't resist asking about TOG - POTC. docx and MCU - Bishlova MTH. docx because that big HELP is like a flashing red alarm light for my thirsty af beta reading self. :3

This was actually the first TOG fanwork I started, the day that I saw the movie back in 2020 -- it's (obviously) a TOG/Pirates of the Caribbean crossover where Pirate King Elizabeth Swann's ship finds Quynh's coffin, and they spend ten years minus a day in love before Elizabeth goes to meet Will and Quynh starts her journey back to Andy. It's very much in the style of my old-school THG fics, where it's not really drabbles but it's very much in small, poetryish-but-not numbered chunks. I do like it, but I lost steam on it pretty quickly. It's only not a WIP Amnesty because honestly so little has HAPPENED in it that it's not worth Amnesty posting yet.

Snippet:

002. She barely has time to register the new terror before her iron prison flips, swept up in a tentacle as long and thick as a building. Westerners' maps mark the unknowns of the ocean with a warning that <i>here there be monsters</i>, but Quynh and— Quynh used to laugh at the idea: neither of them had ever seen one in all of their thousands of years, thousands of lives. Animals, even the biggest and most bloodthirsty, were not monsters (humans were monsters, humans bolted Quynh in this torture chamber, humans burned and lashed and stabbed and suffocated and beat and bound and slit and hanged and disemboweled and warred). This arm belongs to a monster the likes of which Quynh could not fathom. This is literally just a placeholder document to remind me that I have a 15k Bishlova fic due for Marvel Trumps Hate, and I have NO IDEAS. NONE. NADA. ZIP. The auction winner requested a QPR/platonic relationship and gave no other real requests, and the only idea that I've had and liked, I had to scrap because it doesn't work with the canon timeline. >:(

I WANTED to write Kate and Yelena having met at a like, '90s Girl Power summer camp just before the opening of Black Widow -- they learn archery, obviously, and gymnastics/tumbling and ballet and self-defense -- and then they find each other again a la canon in Hawkeye, after Yelena has had her childhood destroyed by the Red Room and Kate's mother has gone to the dark side. BUT IT DOESN'T WORK, because Yelena Blipped and Kate didn't, so unless I make Kate way older for the Battle of New York when her dad dies, and rewrite her as also having been born in '89 instead of '00, it just doesn't work. And I don't WIKE to mess with canon just to make plots work unless I'm going to do something INTERESTING with the messing-with-canon. ::grumble::

Have any ideas? The only other idea I have at all is vaguely following them on a road trip to Natasha's grave, but mehhhh.
