can i just say 9-1-1 is really good at hiring actors who need to fill that “villain” role?
megan west in s2? (we weren’t supposed to like her then!)
vanessa e. williams?
bryce durfee?
and now kevyn morrow aka junior?
i’d even include all the actors playing the buckley and diaz parents since the point is to show why maddie, buck, and eddie act and think the way they do.

Of course Bastien was invited to go and pick Willem up with her. Maddy wasn’t going to leave him out of anything. But she would understand if he didn’t feel much like coming, considering the time and all. She felt okay with going out this time because she had really proven to herself that her shields were powerful. She was still riding the high. That and she was going to see Willem who had also helped her and protected her before. She felt safe. She felt good. She’d still be wearing Bastien’s tee, even if it smelt a little like smoke, but at least she would wear pants under it this time.
This was her first time seeing the Jolly Roger since the day that it had been capsized. It had been her sanctuary for a short time. Seeing it did bring back some faint memories but not the sort to get her down. She felt like she had grown a lot since that day. She felt stronger than she had been that day. It also just reminded her of Bastien’s love for her, even after she had rejected him, and how he had overcome so much just to come and get her. She sighed contently, and gave the horn a little beep when she thought that she saw Willem.
“Good morrow,” She said with a little laugh, thinking about Arthur on his bush steed the night before. “How are you feeling?”

Phoenix Flame
Things I liked:
-       I think this book was a great sequel for the first story.  I read the first book last year and I thought it was fun and cute.  Both stories have a different kind of feel than other fantasy novels.  Of course they have some classic fantasy elements but I kind of put them in a new environment for me.
-   Ive said it a thousand times before and I’ll say it again, I love a happy ending.  I was so excited that this story ended on a positive note.  I love a reunion with family, and I really think Maddie deserved the best.
Things I didn't like:
-        The characters were are pretty one note to me. They all had clear positions in the story, and they didn't stray very far from what they were designed to be.
-     Not much suspense in the story as a whole.  It was kind of boring in some parts, and the action wasn't very captivating in others.  And I felt that some of the twists weren't very hard to predict.
Overall:
-       Overall this book was just another ok book.  The author did kind of set it up so that she could write more.  I don't know if she will but if she does I might consider grabbing the next one.  I think Havenfall and its sequel Phoenix Flame are great introductory books into the fantasy genre.  They are pretty easy to follow and not very hard reads.  If you know any young people who want to start reading fantasy I think they would love these books.  Being an older person I found them to be a little below my reading level, but still kind of good.  They have a simple charm to them cause they are so easy to follow.
- Rating: 3/5

HavenFall.
Tumblr media
By Sara Holland.
I would like to thank Bloomsbury Publishing Plc & Sara Holland for my copy of the ARC. Due to this kind gesture, I have decided to leave an honest review.
I absolutely adored Everless so when I was approved for a copy of Havenfall, I got giddy with excitement! I love the way Sara writes and she manages to catch my attention at the start of her books which is really important for me as I tend to lose interest if it doesn't. I struggled with my rating here but I have settled on a modest 3.5 stars!
When all the whispers of the town are directed towards you, it gets lonely trying to escape them but Maddie manages to keep it together because every Summer for 3 months, she gets to escape to the most amazing place ever.. Havenfall. Maddie's uncle Marcus owns an Inn deep in the mountains of Colorado, but it isn't just any old inn of course. Its a place where worlds connect, mingle, trade, but what if the peace is disturbed? Can Maddie help be the new Innkeeper? or will Havenfall.. fall.
Tumblr media
I have fell in love with this new series! We have new worlds that absolutely intrigue me. Fiordenkill, a world encased in ice and forst, where animals are big, colourful an beautiful. Palaces of packed snow under amazing auroras and stars. Byrn, a world in ruins of sweltering heat and bad storms due to magic. Their King has built an Oasis behind walls to keep it safe from the storms, but if you live within the walls you can no longer use your magic, except the nomads. Solaria, a tiny seled off world that no one knows hardly anything about. Shapeshifters with advanced technology where mythology surrounding vampires, djinni and demons began. All under a blazing sky. Now tell me whats not to love about this?!
Tumblr media
The plot was pretty good, but a little slow. Did you kinda know what was going to happen? A little... but Sara did put in twist an turns that had you second guessing yourself. I have fell in love with the worlds, the reason I haven't given the book any higher than 3.5 stars was due to it only being in the Inn. I seriously hope we get to explore them in the next book.
I did like our characters, even the bad guy! We had our leading lady Maddie, her uncle Marcus and his husband Graylin. Willow and the mysterious Silver Prince. Taya and of course The Heiress. Lastly, our handsome Brekken! I didn't really connect to any of our characters but at the last length of the book I started to a little place in my heart for Taya. Also, I loved our bad guy, like seriously.. I hope he lives up to it.
All in all its worth the reading, I feel it leans into the more younger YA readers but it is still enoyable!

“The Prince of Flame, dark of heart, is
Said to be one of immense power, the
Only demon which makes the entirety
Of Devildom tremble in fear. Whether
Or not this is simply speculation or a
Well known truth is yet to be known.
I, however, aim to find it for myself.”
— the diary of Maddi, High Witch
prologue | masterlist | ii. dignus.
a/n: contains nsfw content, blood, death. read at your own risk.
“MY PRINCE!” A GASPING, pleading cry, sent towards the heavens—the sweetest of sounds, muffled by a set of long, calloused fingers shoved between pink, plush lips. Drool collected around those fingers, studded with exquisite gold rings and tasting of iron, and collected in the basin of protruding collarbones, dark and blue and littered with bite marks from unnaturally sharp teeth. “Please—”
“Silence.” Another hand gripped her jaw fiercely, pushing it shut over his fingers. She gurgled pitifully over them, tongue sliding over gold and rubies as she gasped for air. Her lungs heaved, her back arching high as he forced her head back, blood running a sinuous path down the swanlike curve of her throat and over her breast, collecting upon a pert nipple in a tantalizing bead. He dipped his head to collect it, suckling the aroused flesh ever so softly and with a nick of razor sharp teeth, the bead dissolving on his tongue and vanishing between his lips. “Your whining is getting on my nerves.”
Her responding whimper, high pitched and needy, sent a wave of frigid cold through him. He abruptly pulled his fingers from her mouth with a wet pop, his other hand abandoning her jaw and leaving fingerprints in their wake. Her whimpers immediately silenced, eyes opening as her pleasure abated from lack of stimulation, legs slick with cold sweat. Her chest rose and fell, blood trickling down her body from his bite marks, and while he might have once been aroused at the sight of a high and mighty demon girl covered in his marks and her own blood, it sparked nothing in him but disgust.
“My Prince,” she demurred, carefully propping herself up from the desk under his gaze. His seed spilled from her and onto the polished hardwood, ruining all of his hard work in an instant. His eyes flickered up from between her legs, his mouth settling into a grim line as she carefully worked her way to her feet. Her knees shook from aftershocks of multiple orgasms, but she managed to approach him, pressing a hand to the golden skin of his chest, raking sharp claws down over his pectoral. “Do I not please you?”
A muscle in his jaw twitched. He reached up and enveloped her throat in his large hand, squeezing against the arteries and her esophagus, stare darting up and down her abused body in contemplation. He paused momentarily on the shape of his hands on her hips, such a deep blue they were almost black, admiring, but that admiration quickly faded as he took in the wanton, power hungry aura surrounding her, and his grip tightened.
“M-My Pr-rince—” she croaked, her hands coming up to claw at the skin of his wrists as his grip grew tighter and tighter, bones grinding and cracking underneath the pressure. She choked on her own air when her esophagus gave out, the vertebrae in her neck snapping clean.
The life left her eyes and he allowed her to slump to the floor, her nude body crumbling into char black ash at his feet before she ever touched the ground. He rolled his neck and shoulders, huffing, and rolled the rug beneath his chair over the ash with his foot. His tongue prodding his cheek in thought, still tasting her blood in his mouth, he pulled his pants on, fumbling idly with the button and buckle. His eyebrows furrowed when he found the ashes smeared where he had stepped, and made to wipe it off on the rug, when a knock sounded at his door.
“Another one, my lord?” Barbatos entered his office smoothly, making nary a sound as he approached the mound of ash in the rug and his master. “You do know you can’t kill human girls as is custom here, I’m certain?”
“Of course not, Barbatos.” Prince Diavolo was all teeth when he smiled, but this had genuine joy behind it at beholding his favored servant and friend. “I would never kill human women.”
“As you say.” The butler nodded his head and with a snap of his fingers, the ashes and rug were gone, likely on their way to the laundry room for the maids as they spoke. The teal of his eyes sparkled when he produced a letter from thin air, stamped with an unfamiliar seal. “Greedy demonesses aside, the official roster for the Bride Hunt has been drawn up and awaits your approval. Queen Cordelia seeks your approval before she officially recognizes the competitors in any capacity. She is… concerned some of the girls may not fit your tastes.”
Diavolo’s eyebrows rose. He took the letter, which was quite heavy, and sat down at his desk, flicking it open with a letter opener. Inside, there was a letter, penned by the Queen along with a few names, as well as photos—albeit somewhat grainy photos, but better than he would have expected humans to be capable of.
Unable to make heads or tails of which girl was who, he skimmed the letter’s contents, Barbatos reading over his shoulder inquiringly.
‘Dear Prince Diavolo,
It is my pleasure to announce that the girls for the Bride Hunt have been selected. It is truly an honor that you have decided to pick a girl from my kingdom—they are all quite lovely, I assure you. I send this correspondence to affirm that they are to your tastes and that the Hunt may proceed as advised; please let me know your answer at your earliest convenience.
The first girl is Navena Dane, of House Dane. She is quite the spitfire but has the mouth of a sailor—”
He found the picture of the girl, the first in the pile. Pretty but plain, with dark hair and even darker eyes. There was a cruel twist to her mouth that he didn’t quite like.
“The next is Kalliane Fairchild of House Fairchild. She is bookish and keeps to the stacks, I hear, but there is a streak of defiance I believe you might admire within her.”
His opinion was strong: mousy, meek, unbecoming of a Queen. Defiance does not a queen make. He skipped past two other names with equally as boring descriptions, but paused on one, slight interest alighting his visage.
“The last is [Name] Gascoigne of House Gascoigne. Not only does she have a rich dowry, she was ill for most of her season, so she is a year or so below your specified age range. However, she is quite opinionated, and does not fit the mold of nobility here. Should she not succeed in the Bride Hunt, I fear she will accept no man of her own standing—if this decision does not interest or please you, I will withdraw her at your will.
Swift prayers,
Queen Cordelia.”
“Gascoigne,” Barbatos noted, familiarity in his tone. “An old and ancient family. Mammon dealt with them heavily a few decades ago, I remember; had quite a time with the daughters of that house, I recall. He was never quite the same after that—he shuddered any time they called for him.”
Diavolo picked up the photo of the girl in question, curiosity in his surprised grunt. [Color] hair, [color] skin, with a tilt to her head that did not suggest arrogance, but demanded respect, unlike the other photos; there was no sultriness, no deception. She almost appeared as if the whole affair was beneath her. “I wonder what could have possibly made Mammon, Prince of Greed, shudder in fear.”
“Who knows with him.” Barbatos shook his head and scooped up the photos and letter, tossing them into a bin and setting them on fire with a candle. When Diavolo sent him an inquiring look, he explained,”We wouldn’t want any vindictive witches finding photos of these poor girls, would we?”
“Ah.” He nodded in understanding, then. “Yes, I… forget about her, at times. Very well. Send a letter that the matches are fine and that we will arrive on the morrow.”
“The morrow?” The butler parroted back, surprised in his tone. “May I ask why, my lord? That’s nearly two weeks ahead of schedule, and the Queen will not take kindly to your intrusion so early, I believe.”
Diavolo shrugged, leaning back in his chair. He was the very picture of an indolent king, running his tongue over his teeth in thought. “I see no reason to wait any longer, and, besides, the sooner I’m out of Devildom, the faster I’ll be away from power hungry demonesses.”
“I see.” Barbatos nodded. “Very well. I will pen the letter; and, my lord, if I may?”
“Hmm?”
“Be wary,” he advised. “Humans can be the cruelest creatures of all if given reason enough.”

“Chaos Walking” author Patrick Ness on adaptation of novel to film | via Temple of Geek | 25 February 2021
by Maddie Morrow
I had the pleasure of sitting down and talking with Patrick Ness. He is the author of the Chaos Walking series of novels and short stories. Chaos Walking is a Lionsgate Movies film that will be released on March 5, 2021. Ness and I discussed what it was like to have his first novel, The Knife of Never Letting Go, be adapted to the big screen.
Chaos Walking follows Todd Hewitt (played by Tom Holland) and his new-found friend Viola (played by Daisy Ridley). Viola has crash-landed onto Todd’s planet where all of the women have disappeared. Men are afflicted with the “Noise.” The “Noise” is a force that puts their thoughts on display for everyone around them. Todd has sworn to protect Viola.
Patrick Ness discusses working on Chaos Walking
I asked Patrick Ness where he got his idea of the “Noise.” The premise of this series is nothing like I have ever heard of before. His answer surprised me:
“The premise for this particular place was the idea – even when I wrote it in twenty 07, twenty 08 – was the idea of information overload. That we were suddenly, in an unprecedented way, being pelted with people’s opinions and thoughts constantly. And it really started with just the idea of being in line with somebody and they’re yopping on their phone…and so the question became: as the internet almost obliges us to share parts of ourselves, what if you had no choice in that transaction? What if you had to share?”
Fans of books always want to know: how involved are the authors in the movie making process? Will the movie do the book justice? Patrick Ness is very happy with the way the movie came out, saying that, “The movie is not going to erase the book.”
“I view the film as a remix of the book. It does a different thing. You can like the original track, and you can also like the remix, acknowledging that there’s some changes. And that’s my attitude. Great adaptations always veer. They are always – they are never an exact replica because the movie has to do a different thing… I think fans of the book will be pleased.”
I asked Patrick Ness how he felt when he found out who was starring in the film:
“The casting is hilarious! You never believe anything. But, Daisy [Ridley] was first on. She was really keen to play Viola. Showed me a fantastic letter/note about why she wanted to play Viola. And it was just so smart and so good and I was so happy. Then, Tom [Holland] came aboard and I was familiar with Tom ’cause I had worked with him…then they promptly became stars of the two biggest movie franchises in history. So, that’s a nice bit of luck!”
He went on to talk about how the casting director made “cool choices. And you don’t often get cool. And I am very, very please to have gotten cool.”
You can watch Chaos Walking in select theaters on March 5, 2021.

Summary: The Ghost Zone sends Heralds to Danny, telling him he is their rightful King.
A/N: Wow, so this is my first time joining the phight! I’m really excited!! So this one got a bit wobbly towards the end, but I enjoyed writing it and I hope you enjoy reading it.
Danny sat up in bed and stretched, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes as his phone continued to blare his wake up call on the nightstand next to his bed.
He can’t remember the last time he’s had a fairly decent sleep like that. He sighed contentedly, lazily opening his eyes...only to meet the glowing eyes of the ghost at the foot of his bed. The halfa froze, not entirely sure what to do. The ghost seemed to be wearing some sort of medieval get-up, holding a scroll in one hand and a trumpet in the other. The specter stared at Danny with unblinking eyes. Then suddenly the ghost came to life, addressing Danny with a genuine smile and an accented voice, “A good morrow to you, young sir!”
“Uh… yeah. Good...morrow to you, too, dude.”
“It is. Oh yes, it is indeed a fine morning, mighty one”, he said, still smiling and staring at Danny. The boy waited for the ghost to continue, but he seemed to be content just hovering there, watching him.
Slightly unnerved, he carefully moved to get out of bed, not wanting to start a fight this early in the morning. Then the ghost spoke again, a bit louder this time, but still smiling.
“I am a Herald, sent all the way from the Council of Observants to deliver a declaration to your Ghostliness.”
“....ok. Go ahead.”
The ghost seemed pleased to be given such permission, unrolled his scroll and took a deep breath. To say it was long would be an understatement, seeing as the unrolled paper now stretched down to the floor.
“By decree of the Everlasting Council of Observants and in accordance with Ancient Laws, Daniel Fenton, the halfa known also as Phantom, as vanquisher of despot Pariah Dark and savior to both Ghosts and Humans alike, shall be brought before Ghost Zone’s spectral inhabitants and crowned the new Ghost King. Once crowned, the King of Ghosts shall be charged with defending his kingdom and his people. He must settle disputes and preside over ceremonies. He must also attend many meetings with the Observants, establishing new laws....”
Danny tuned out the specter’s speech as it hit him.
Me? The King of Ghosts?.... No way.
He opened his mouth, a response on his lips, when he checked himself. No. No, of course not. He couldn’t deal with this right now.
So, he ignored the still-talking ghost and got ready for the day.
As he opened the door to leave his room, he realized his companion was going to follow him downstairs, still reciting the speech.
“....provided that he is of sound core and form. He may never go against the Everlasting Council, doing so will result in immediate—“
As Danny capped the thermos that now held one Ghost Herald, he said, “Sorry dude, but that’s gonna be a big ‘no for now’ from me.” Okay, a bit harsh, but he didn’t see another way to quickly shut up the Herald.
He stuck the thermos at the bottom of his bag, hoping this wouldn’t turn out to be a problem.
——
At breakfast, Danny had been trying to enjoy a bowl of cereal when a familiar chill passed through his body and another ghost in medieval garb phased through the wall behind his parents, unrolling a long scroll. Luckily, Jazz came to Danny’s rescue, screaming at her parents and telling them that she had seen a ghost upstairs. After the pair of ghost hunters barreled up the staircase, Danny turned to the specter with arms crossed.
“Now, what do you want?”
The second Herald faced his audience of two and began his speech, which Danny noted was exactly the same as the spiel he had heard earlier. Jazz on the other hand, had been ready to help her brother in a fight, but now simply sat there listening to the monologue, more than a little confused. Meanwhile, Danny ducked his head into his backpack, fumbling around for his thermos.
“...shall be brought before Ghost Zone’s spectral inhabitants and crowned the new Ghost King. Once crowned, the King of Ghosts shall be charged with defendi—-!”
And with that, Herald number two was silenced.
“I’m not the Ghost King,” he mumbled to the thermos.
A beat passed.
Jazz looked skeptically between Danny and the thermos that now held two Heralds.
“No?” she asked.
“No way…. at least, not yet.”
She hmm’d noncommittally, narrowing her eyes.
“So, Mr. Ghost King,” she said, ignoring Danny’s
protests to the title, “Is this going to be a problem?”
He rolled his eyes at her, shaking his head. “No, ok? Everything will be just fine. This isn’t a problem.”
She raised her eyebrows and went back to her coffee as their parents disappointedly came down the stairs, ghostless.
“Alright,” his sister said, “If you say so.”
——
It was a problem.
Not that Danny acknowledged it as such.
The next morning he opened his locker only to be greeted formally by a ghost holding a scroll and trumped. In a knee-jerk reaction, he slammed the door shut and skidded backwards, earning him a few curious looks. Smiling nervously and rubbing the back of his neck at the crowd milling about him, he stepped in front of his locker and sighed, opening the door a crack.
“Greetings, Phantom!” the Herald boomed, only to be frantically shushed by the halfa.
“Shut up dude! Are you trying to give me away?”
“Apologies, your Grace,” the ghost replied in a thankfully softer tone, “not to worry, you shall not be discovered. Why, I am so well hidden, none shall know of your secret!”
Danny cringed at the increase in volume. He looked around, hoping no one noticed. The hallway was packed with students and staff making their way to morning classes, but no one seemed to have picked up on the kid talking to his locker.
“Now with your permission, I shall recite to you the decree written by the Observants themselves!”
The Herald took Danny’s tired look as a green light and the halfa pinched the bridge of his nose as he listened to the Observants’ decree. Again.
He must also attend many meetings with the Observants, establishing new laws. All ghosts will henceforth be subject to his Highness and his allies…”
“Whoa,” said a voice to Danny’s left, “that is a lot of speech.” Tucker moved in closer, picking up the end of the scroll that reached the floor, while Sam looked over Danny’s shoulder at the ghost currently phased halfway through his Chem textbook. To his relief, he noticed that they were also blocking the view of passerby into the locker.
“Ah, you must be the great allies of his Highness Phantom. Shall I repeat the decree for your benefit?”
His two best friends shared an amused look at the term ‘Highness’. Before they could say anything to make the situation worse, however, Danny powered up his thermos.
“I’m gonna have to stop you there. It’s nothing personal.”
A flash of light, and the Herald was gone.
Danny grabbed his books and turned to his friends, who now had their eyebrows raised very high.
“What?”
“Oh nothing, nothing, your Ghostliness” Sam said, emphasizing the last bit with a purposefully bad British accent, taking a few steps away from the lockers. “I just think that was a bit harsh of you.”
“Yeah, I feel bad for the guy,” Tucker sighed, shaking his head, “I mean, what’s a dude gotta do in this world to get appreciated?”
Sam nodded, adding, “Don’t shoot the messenger?”
Danny rubbed the back of his neck as they started walking to class. “I know it’s kinda mean, but I’m still processing? I think? This was the fifth time I’ve heard that decree since yesterday, but I don’t think it’s sunk in yet.”
“Ah, so avoiding responsibility! How unbecoming of my lord!” Tucker’s phony accent was worse than Sam’s.
“It’s not avoiding responsibility,” Danny replied, rolling his eyes. “It’s more ‘I have been offered Kingship of an entire dimension and I don’t really know what to think of that yet.’”
“So, stalling?” Sam asked.
He nodded. “Stalling.”
Their conversation came to a halt as they reached the classroom door.
“Whatever you say, your Majesty,” Tucker said in a reprisal of his bad British accent, bowing low. Sam followed suit, dropping into a low curtsy as the two of them made exaggerated motions beckoning him to enter the classroom first.
Danny rolled his eyes, stepping past his friends.
If they could joke about it, then this really wasn’t a problem.
——
The next few days were a testament to Danny’s stubbornness.
And the stubbornness of the Observants and their Heralds.
At first, Team Phantom would joke about it, calling Danny ‘Your Highness’ or ‘Your Grace’ whenever they got the chance. But they all quickly got tired of it, and simply watched as Danny declined offer after offer. Meanwhile, Jack and Maddie were very confused and concerned by the recent spike in their ghost-detecting gadgets’ readings.
But Danny didn’t acknowledge the events over the next few days as a problem. Nope. Not a problem at all.
Not when Heralds popped up in the strangest places during class, not when they phased their heads through his meals, not even when a Herald appeared right in front of him while he was in the shower. He was glad they didn’t interfere in fights, because, yes, they have appeared during fights but they never got in the way.
No, Danny finally came to terms with this issue on a random occasion. That occasion being when he turned the corner on his way to English the and almost plowed through yet another Herald.
“Sir Phantom, please hearken to the words of the mighty Observants as I read them aloud!”
At this point, he was starting to lose count of how many Heralds had gone after him. He tuned out the babbling ghost in front of him and looked around the hallways, scanning for any witnesses. Not a soul in sight…. besides the one in front of him.
The halfa pulled out a thermos from his backpack, the Herald made a noise of protest at the sight of the gadget, and in a matter of seconds the hallway was empty once more.
He was really pushing his luck. He could’ve gotten caught if he hadn’t been late for class.
Oh, crud. He was late for class.
——
Now, admitting he had a problem brought Danny one step closer to dealing with it. At least, that’s what Jazz had said to him. He knew the constant stream of Heralds interrupting their days were getting on his friends’ and sister’s nerves. Heck, they were starting to get on his.
The next step was actually doing something about the acknowledged issue. Which wasn’t hard, all things considered.
The next time a Herald popped up, Danny was in an empty alley, about to transform back into a human. He took his chance, waited for what felt like eternity for the ghost to finish reciting the decree, and accepted the offer. On the condition that he would be the one to decide when to be crowned and who were to be his guests. The delighted specter bowed low several times, and happily agreed to the terms. Danny had never seen someone so relieved. After giving Danny directions to the coronation’s venue, he disappeared with a small ‘pop!’.
After the ghost had left, he transformed, his black jumpsuit being replaced by a t-shirt and jeans. Sitting down, he sighed, leaning back on his palms and looking up at the night sky. He couldn’t see a lot of stars here. Not with all the light pollution Amity gave off. But he could see a few, and they were beautiful.
Danny wasn’t the Ghost King.
...not yet.

Second post of the day! Wanted to share a new book I came across recently and it’s HAVENFALL by Sarah Holland. Thanks @glasstownent for the gifted copy. . This is the newest series from the author of Everless. Here’s some more about it. . Hidden deep in the mountains of Colorado lies the Inn at Havenfall, a sanctuary that connects ancient worlds--each with their own magic--together. For generations, the inn has protected all who seek refuge within its walls, and any who disrupt the peace can never return. . For Maddie Morrow, summers at the inn are more than a chance to experience this magic first-hand. Havenfall is an escape from reality, where her mother sits on death row accused of murdering Maddie's brother. It's where Maddie fell in love with handsome Fiorden soldier Brekken. And it's where one day she hopes to inherit the role of Innkeeper from her beloved uncle. . But this summer, the impossible happens--a dead body is found, shattering everything the inn stands for. With Brekken missing, her uncle gravely injured, and a dangerous creature on the loose, Maddie suddenly finds herself responsible for the safety of everyone in Havenfall. She'll do anything to uncover the truth, even if it means working together with an alluring new staffer Taya, who seems to know more than she's letting on. As dark secrets are revealed about the inn itself, one thing becomes clear to Maddie--no one can be trusted, and no one is safe . . . . I can’t wait to dive into this one and it’ll be out on March 3rd from @bloomsburypublishing. (at Santa Monica, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/B74fXyTFSQk/?igshid=izo7xc2g0wul

I already have a good-sized stack of library books to read, but one of today’s releases caught my eye:

I am getting such Amnesty vibes out of this. Beings from other worlds finding refuge in an inn? Creature on the loose? Possible F/F romance? Okay, I’ll check this out later.
