Ilheu di Vila Franca do Campo

Questa foto l'ho già usata come copertina del viaggio alle Azzorre, ricordate?

Sull'isola di São Miguel potete raggiungere la cittadina di Vila Franca do Campo da cui ammirare l'Ilheu, l'isolotto nato da un antico vulcano sottomarino ormai spento facente parte del complesso vulcanico di Fogo.

Proprio per questo motivo ha una perfetta forma ad anello che è ben visibile dal cielo e per la quale è soprannominato “Princess Ring”.

Dal 1983 è stato classificato come riserva naturale ed è severamente vietato pescare, rimuovere piante o introdurre specie invasive ma è possibile nuotare, fare snorkeling e rilassarsi sulla piccola spiaggia. Pensate che qui si è anche svolta una tappa della famosa competizione Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2013. Per proteggere questo meraviglioso habitat, il numero di visitatori viene limitato quindi è meglio andarci al mattino presto. Potete raggiungerlo dal porto di Vila Franca con le barche organizzate oppure noleggiate un kayak se volete fare un po' di sport ma sappiate che è vietato entrare all'interno dell'isolotto con l'imbarcazione. Noi abbiamo optato per la seconda modalità anche se poi non siamo potuti sbarcare ma è stato bellissimo solcare le onde e vedere le scogliere da vicino. Siamo partiti dal porto (il punto in rosso) ed abbiamo raggiunto l'isolotto che dista circa 1 km dalla costa in circa 40 minuti.

E' stata la mia prima volta in kayak ma devo dire che dopo un po' di esercizio la preoccupazione iniziale ha lasciato il posto al divertimento.
